it’s been an extremely busy day of NHL news we’re going to recap everything we’ve had today including news from the NHL waiver wire we’ve had three separate trades involving the Rangers in capoo the Montreal Canadians and the national predators have swapped defenseman pluss the penguins have picked up a familiar face from the St Louis Blues plus we have new rumors around more deals that may happen before the roster freeze tomorrow night including the latest talk around the Vancouver cans the Toronto Maple Leaves and the Buffalo Sabers plus we have some other Intel on what’s been going on behind the scenes with the New York Rangers uh some other roster moves and injury updates as well all that and more coming up next welcome back to another video here at Top Shelf hockey as I mentioned it’s been an extremely busy day of NHL news of course we know the NHL roster freeze uh is coming up tomorrow evening at midnight so essentially first thing Friday morning uh of course the roster freeze is an a fact so the players cannot be traded during the holiday season of course we know um most teams end up with three or four days off um obviously you know the couple days leading into that break uh they want to make sure that NHL players are safe and cannot have to worry about moving so close to the holidays which is a good thing but sometimes it almost creates almost like a midseason NHL treade deadline of course with the NHL trade dead on before the playoffs that we get you know in March obviously is a lot more fast fur some more activity but essentially this one here like I said it kind of creates a little bit of a urgency for teams if they don’t want to wait they want to get ahead of things and they want to have you know at least a move made for their Club going into the uh games after the holiday break or even a couple games that are off beforehand so let’s recap what we’ve learned today when it comes to all the activity revolving potential movement we’ll start with news from the NHL waiver wire four players on waiver today wouldn’t be shocked if we had a claim or so tomorrow uh today we have from the Colorado Avalanche Tai uh fell habber of course he’s a older more mature rookie who got his first taste of NHL action I’m pretty sure he scored his first NHL goal as well so I mean he gets the the waivers unfortunately has to go back down to the miners um I don’t see him getting picked up I mean he’s only got like I said one brief little stin here uh We’ve also got from the Nashville Predators uh Mark Delo we’ve got from the New York Islanders Grant Hutton defenseman and F win pay Jets defenseman Dylan Coughlin coughlin’s probably the most likely pickup amongst the four uh but we’ll see and we’ll find out tomorrow afternoon if any of those players are picked up or if they will any or all can be reassigned to their AHL Affiliates as I mentioned we had three NHL trades today I do have dedicated videos on each one uh kind came fast and furious this evening the first one involving the Rangers and kacko was was a little bit earlier in the evening the other two involving the Penguins and then uh the Habs PRS deal came a little closer together later tonight but the first one kappo kako uh time of the New York Rangers is up I mean he is the former number two overall pick behind Jack Hughes uh going on was it five six years now in the NHL had 140 Point Season otherwise uh offensively at least has been very stagnant in his development I I I do think to some degree you know that’s on the Rangers and I think some degree it’s on the player and some of the talents that we saw when he was younger just have struggled to translate a d NHL level um but yeah considering he was the former number two overall pick they get defenseman will borgan from the Kraken and two picks a third and a six I mean that just seems underwhelming but it goes to show you how koo’s value has fallen off now there’s lots of talking rumors that a year ago or even last year at the deadline for example that Chris jury had lots of offers to include kako and chose not to for example there’s rumors that there was a deal on the table for uh the an or with the Anaheim Ducks that would have included Frankie vitrano and Adam Henrik returning uh of course vran returning and Henrik going to the Rangers which I don’t know the full package but kako would have been involved in it going to the Ducks uh and there was also speculation that the Rangers were one of the teams trying to get Jake gensel out out of Pittsburgh before he ended up uh getting moved to the Hurricanes last year the deadline and of course the Penguins wanted Koo on that deal and he wouldn’t do it um and now look what he gets for a return like I said considering where kako was drafted it feels underwhelming but that’s because of the fact that you know of how the things have gone for how his play is dictated results right so yeah it’s a sell low opportunity and even though C spoke out um against the healthy scratch he get the other night from head coach Peter lavet they claimed it had nothing to do with the trade and I I believe that cuz his name has been in the rumor mill forever it might have expedited things but I mean he goes from being Health bombed then he comes back in the lineup and he plays seven minutes and of course in between he complained well he didn’t really go out of his way to complained he was asked by the media how he felt about it and he said he was surprised didn’t feel like he was the worst player on the team but you know didn’t deserve to come out and he you know acknowledged he could play better but he said it was also easy for them to take up the young guy and give him the boot so you know um it’s kind of paraphrasing his comments there but essentially you know you could tell he wasn’t happy and there was previous reports indicating that he even though he hadn’t asked for a trade that he would welcome a fresh start and now he’ll get that in Seattle hopefully he can work with the other younger players on that team like baners and Wright Etc and you know find uh some more of that talent that was on display uh leading into his draft year uh so that was the first big one then the second um traded of the night which a little bit more minor but Pier Olivier Joseph goes from St Louis to Pittsburgh of course he’s very familiar with the penguin spent a number of years there uh ended up going to St Louis last off season and the the unfortunate part about this is that when Pierre olier Joseph ended up in St Louis he get to reunite with his brother Matthew cuz Matthew was traded from Ottawa to stou also so they both ended up with the blues and there was exciting time the Joseph Brothers could play in NHL together and after only 3 months that comes to an end so I’m sure that’s sad uh I know for the parents they they seem quite pleased and now that’ll be over with um the other big thing too not only is it over with quickly but they were hoping to play in the Winter Classic together cuz the blues will be playing the blank conks I saw the blues post a video just a few days ago with them two modeling the uh the special Jersey it’s just a you know I understand it’s a business I just but I do you know have a heart and I do feel bad for the Josephs but Pier L goes back to the Penguins where he’s familiar um he’s he worked a lot with lat tang and Carlson lived with leang too as well so I’ll be curious to see um how things work out for him and his second time around and then thirdly we saw trade with the Montreal Canadians Nashville Predators for the hams trade right shot defenseman Justin Baron to the PRS for uh Alex K so again uh K is a little bit older a little bit more experienced um and Baron’s a little younger a little bit bigger a little bit more costeffective so Montreal gets that experience that a little bit more rugged defenseman I mean Baron got the size and everything um but hasn’t quite found his consistency yet at the NHL they’ve got other right shot young defenseman like Ryan Bacher and Mayu coming up the ranks um so this kind of allows them to get a better balance I guess between veteran to youngster in their decor and because we know card’s probably getting moved this year so it kind of keeps around a right-handed defenseman that’s a little bit more um experience back there so to me I think it’s a good deal for the Canadians I mean Carrie is No Superstar by any means it was kind of odd in a way that Barry Trot signed him for three years in the offseason then he trades them but that team has struggled mightily and certainly need some change now some other roster moves we saw today uh nothing too crazy here but a few quick updates before we get into some of the other uh speculation around the NHL we saw today the Blue Jackets uh sent jet Greaves back to the miners they also recalled forward James Malatesta uh there was some concern over Dante Fabro after last night’s game he left the game early but the belief is that it was basically like basically like a charlie horse so that um he should be able to return um and if he shouldn’t be out long if at all so good news there on Fabro the sharks called yav a scar off cuz benack is going to be out for a while at least a few weeks with an upper body injury so yav scar off will get another bit of games here in running the NHL uh the Red Wings activated goalie Alex lion they picked up a big win tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers to start hopefully climbing their way up a little bit close the gap slightly still uh a ways back thr from the Wild Card spots that are currently held down by the lightning and the Senators as of tonight uh the Seattle Kraken today also returned right Winterton back to the American Hockey League and of course that makes sense with the trade in the works as well uh picking up cakle they had to create a roster spot there uh for him so obviously like I said Lots going on today uh with the speculation around the Le before we get into the latest rumors or what other trades we might see want to talk about a a little further about the Rangers um there’s a bunch of rumors out there about the Rangers one we’ve heard and I I don’t know what to make of this one but there’s some talk to former Ranger and former and each other Shan Avery could possibly be a contender to be the GM down the road I that would be a shocker I mean he does do a lot of podcasting and um you know talking online and I know he says a lot of right you know things that sound good as far as what they need but that just as curious and interesting we don’t have any reason to think right now that Chris jury is going anywhere so we’ll kind of just parked guys want to know if you hadn’t heard it that rumor has been floating around up there but uh you know former Ranger as well and current NHL network uh analyst Mike rup also kind of ripped jury and how he’s handled things lately um and you know I don’t think he’s wrong so one thing that that Rob had said and he has it said he has other good sources that he trusts so we’ll we’ll go with it um says that basically the whole Jacob trouba thing we know dating back to the summer that they wanted to move them and that the part that rup doesn’t like is that all the communication was with the agent and that up until like trouba was moved just in a short time ago uh that jury had never had a face Toof face with them um you know face to face heart to heart and to kind of explain where you know like you know he said you can sit him down say I know this is going to be tough but I got to do my job here’s what I think the team needs you know we do want to move you and and kind of work it out and just have better communication and just you know kind of have a better rapport with your players cuz it sounds like the team is you know kind of ticked at management here now doesn’t to me explain why they won’t like they’re on Ice play but yeah I mean I can understand why with what R is saying if with true to that like he he needs to get better with his communication you know I think he’ll be a lot more respected players understand it’s a business but when they’re not told anything and they’re kind of Blindsided you know it’s bad and you know obviously you know one thing we’ve learned about jury if he wants you gone you’re going to be gone he’ll find a way to do it he did it to Barkley goodro did it to Jacob trouba you know obviously the cacko trade’s a little different uh as far as other names that are out there within the Rangers we we know that a lot of players are available if the right deal comes along one name that was getting a little bit more attention today is kandre Miller again I can’t say for certainty they’re going to move Miller but um this another another player to watch for sure I think Chris jury and the Rangers are still working on shaking things up and getting that team back on cont trct but you know I’m not sure that there’s any more deals imminent there just yet of course the COO trade you know came together quickly here today but I think that’s probably been on and off you know they’ve had lots of talk around kaco for and extended period of time so we’ll see what else happens here with the New York Rangers I know lots of talk from Frank s Valley today when it comes to the Buffalo Sabers we don’t know what’s going to happen they now at 11 straight losses they lost to Montreal last night and not only did lose but they got their butts whipped the Habs absolutely demolish him and prior to last night’s game the Habs were dead last in Eastern Conference now the sabes are you know they got they’re you know just completely dominant fashion here um the Sabers had a terrible game they were dominated so they’re now lost in the East so even though the owner uh FLW to Bunch roale met with the team they came out with a lackluster effort and you have to wonder now what what comes next right and there’s Frank Z Valley confirmed that they’re not necessarily they’re open to moving everybody cuz I don’t think they are teams are inquiring right now they’re like vultur but it sounds like around the Sabers even on some of their younger talent that they’re unlikely to move like I would think Perka Owen power to some degree even rosmus Dalene um you know I’ve seen Montreal media even salivating over the idea of maybe if they could trade for Dalene but again we don’t have any reason to think he’s available um but you know the the Sabers need something to change and they need it to change fast but you know what they do it’s hard to say it’s just the update from Frank today was that they’re getting calls on probably seven eight to 10 other their players we’ve heard about cousins and bym over and over again like I said I’d throw in Jack Quinn I would throw in uh to some degree ow Pera it doesn’t mean that the Sab are they shopping these guys I’m just saying that they’re getting lots of inquiries from a variety of teams uh on these guys so we’ll see where things go on that front now of course uh you know the Maple Leafs are another team that’s been playing well lately Craig ru’s got him on a good streak here and uh there lots of speculation about what they may do but it’s probably going to come a little bit later closer to the trade deadline the main consistent piece we’ve heard from NHL insiders is that they likely want to add a a 3C uh number three centerman uh one name that’s come up this actually came as a suggestion this isn’t so much a rumor as what’s being discussed this came as a suggestion from anals Paul bizette on TNT uh but he actually made mention this on on a lease podcast that Scott lton and Philly is a name that they should go after and I don’t disagree with him he’s got a decent contract Ontario boy so you know obviously be another another guy trying to come home and help them win the saling cup which we know they have a bunch of guys trying to do that already uh again I wouldn’t base my moves based on the factor from Ontario but it just might you know if you have somebody with trade protection they might be more open to it as a homecoming type of deal but lon’s just a steady reliable 200 foot player you can give you a bit of offense give you a bit of physicality uh and could be a great third line type addition if that’s what they’re looking for but Bela is amongst the Leafs uh uh within The Insider World here is that that’s what they want to add right now they’re pretty happy with their D I think for the most part they’re happy with their goal tending but of course at this point want to make sure that the durability is there that the goal tenders are healthy Leafs are not in a major hurry to do this and some teams are also reluctant to make moves right now because they’re in the mix the Flyers would be likely be one of those teams uh you know will they make the playoffs far from a guarantee at this point but they’re definitely in the mix uh they did lose tonight to the Red Wings but you know at the end of the day the Flyers are team that um you know last like last year they were in it until really late so they’re a team that may not deal until closer to the deadline but lton will be a player that generates interest we’ll see if he’s a player that the leaps do Zone in on but the suggestion from Paul bit and that does make a lot of sense we’ll see if he’s a player that um you know Miz turns out to be right that they end up targeting now in Vancouver of course uh Frank s Val also reporting today that you know have all the teams to watch before the uh R freeze the cans are one of the main ones he was keeping his eye on that even though nothing was imminent they were lots of chatter that they were really pushing to see if they could acquire a top four defenseman preferably a right shot defenseman and that might be in the mix here so again you know uh the cans certainly have work to do lots of uncertainty still around Brock besser as well I know besser obviously at this light rate is likely unlikely to get traded this year but you got to wonder if they had an opportunity to get you know the right right shot defenseman that can play Big minutes in the top four would they move him with that point uh the belief is amongst the Insiders is it’s going to be really really tough for them to resign besser and because of that he may end up on the market this summer word is he’s looking for a contract somewhere in the 8times 8 range and you know some insiders are suggesting that might be too much for their blood considering the pass that he has a missing time especially and you know for the most part he’s been a productive player but you know is he productive enough to justify that new ter of money that he’s looking for on this deal so we’ll see if Sarah Valley turns out to be right here like I said he’s indicated that the connects are having a lot of conversations lots of trade talk around them trying to get a right shot top four Defender nothing’s materialized here as of yet but it could very well here soon but they’re going to be patient if the deal’s not there they’ll wait look at it after Christmas into January and see what they can figure out so so we will see what the cans end up doing lots of chatter lots of talk but doesn’t mean it’ll lead anything but with Philip pic’s injury I certainly feel a little bit of pressure I think from the back end to uh to make some upgrades and get somebody in there who can help add a little bit more ability Puck moving ability uh I know they had acquired Eric branstrom he’s mostly played in a third pair defensive role been held scratched a few times as well so I’ll be curious to see um how do they they utilize him also moving forward so we’ll see what happens so like I said busy day of Trades lots of rumors about things we may see tomorrow before the roster freeze so we’ll see if we
