we have some big NHL news regarding the waiver wire to discuss today the Edmonton Oilers have put in a claim for a former breu defenseman plus we have more players on waivers today including Alex neander the Maple Leafs a lot and more coming up next so welcome back to another video here at Top Shelf Hawk as I mentioned I wanted to do a quick video here to do update everybody on the news from the NHL waiver wire we actually have a fairly busy day of NHL waivers here today uh yesterday we talked about the fact the Boston Bruins had placed young defenseman Alec regula on waivers um I suspected he was going to clear he has not the Edmonton Oilers have put in a claim on regula so he’s a 24y old right shot defenseman good size 6’4 uh hasn’t played this year due to a knee injury uh but he did spend three years in the Chicago Blackhawks organization there’s the connection in case you didn’t know regula was originally uh with the Blackhawks uh for except parts of three seasons obviously or’s GM Stan Bowman very likely is familiar and knows his player there’s certainly lots to like about his size he’s not a player that I’ve seen play a whole lot so I don’t know if I can really give you a scouting report but um you know obviously the fact that their depth on the right side of their blue line isn’t quite where it needs to be uh and he he’s obviously you know good age good size but because they picked him up on waivers they do have to keep him on the NHL roster so I don’t know if they ran into an injury I haven’t seen the Oilers make any announcements here just yet so we’ll have to see but obviously Alec regula goes from Boston to Edmonton on this waiver claim now as I mentioned there’s three other players on waivers here today we have one that’s for the purpose of contract termination and that’s the San Jose Sharks uh and young forward valteri pulley uh now he is on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination this is a mutually agreed upon decision um he had expressed interest to go back and play in Europe the sherks have granted his request to release him from his contract this is the necessary process they have to go through to do to do that so it’s going to be a mutually agreed upon termination of the contract he will head back to Europe and all will be said and done on nut front now the Toronto Maple actually have two players on waivers today uh one is Dakota mermis and the other is Alex neander now mermis has not played uh he has signed a one-year contract in the off season but has not played yet due to injury uh so obviously Dakota mermis is a player that you know I I know yesterday I said this about regular but I don’t expect him to get picked up generally when players haven’t played and they’re missing an extensive time due to injury you don’t usually see them picked up like that because teams are going to want to make sure the injury is uh you know behind them and make sure that they can you know watch them play a little bit and whatnot first but in this case that wasn’t the case what happened with regula here today so uh mermis I would think the Le Le would get him through but we’ll find out uh and then they also have Alex nander on waivers of course the Leafs are starting to get healthy they recently got Max doy back they recently got pater ready back um you know as they get healthy some of these guys that were getting opportunities unfortunately are going to lose those opportunities and nander uh is one of them he’ll hopefully clear um and head back to the mar Le where he was playing very well um he’s played five NHL games with the maple unfortunately did not put up any points so I know the reunion with his brother has been something that they both have been quite happy about and certainly cherish their time playing in the same city and for a while on the same team but so far Alex nander hasn’t quite worked out it’s kind of weird and how his career has gone uh he’s had times with some franchises like we saw with Columbus last year where he just absolutely finished strong it was uh scoring at will um but then we’ve seen stretches like this as well were you know five 10 15 games and you know almost nothing or nothing to show for it so obviously the Leafs uh you know would like to keep him I’m sure um you know I’m sure because of the neander connection with his brother like clearly I think they like to keep him around and you know maybe see if he can maybe work out another time when there’s an opening on the roster but for right now he has to go on waivers I don’t think he’s going to get picked up after the way he’s played but again like I said about regular yesterday stranger things happened you just never know so regula picked up by the Oilers uh so he’ll leave Boston head to Edmonton uh and of course Alex dander Dakota Merm on waivers for the mate beliefs and valter P the San Jose Sharks his contract is being terminated so he can head over to play
