🕵️‍♂️ Transcript:

hello everyone welcome to the postgame live show brought you by Bucky huddle.com I’m Mark Giver Kevin noon joining us here from the stadium Ohio State four in a row now loses to Michigan 1310 uh basically everything that could go wrong did today for Ohio State on on the offensive side of the ball and on special teams Kevin you were in the stadium today uh at what point did did this turn in terms of the crowd and you know was this a nervous crowd and just what was the environment like there inexcusable absolutely inexcusable Chip Kelly’s offensive play calling was baffling to say the least the insistence on running the ball in a stacked box seven eight men box when they don’t have will Johnson you’re having success throwing the ball I understand that will Howard got his brain scrambled on a on a mcari page hit if he was not able to go then you bring somebody else in this is by far the most disgusting gross outcome that I’ve seen this team was lethargic and the defense played it you know what’s off uh you sat you had the Downs interception you had the Jack Sawyer interception and it was always like all right they’re going to wake up they’re going to figure this out they’re going to get it going and they never did and and I credit a lot of it to just bad play calling but the crowd you know the boobds were out the boob birds were out at halftime the boob birds were out in the third quarter you know they finally I mean maybe the worst thing that happened was when Trevon Henderson had a a really nice run in a in a six-man box and then they’re like well we can just keep doing this so I will be interested to see what the discussion is there but I am just absolutely disgusted with what I saw yeah I don’t even know really where to start on this one this was uh this was a top down ugly ugly performance um you know you have some of the same things that have plagued this team under Ryan day as far as special teams blunders you have the offense no showing you have strangely the the combination of will Howard playing his worst game of the season with Chip Kelly calling his worst game of the season and once again you know as good as a defense played and trust me this is like 90% def or offense and special teams on this but you you have KH mulling wrapped up you’re about to force a punt with about four minutes to go you let them slip away you let Michigan control the fourth quarter game clock again because your defense doesn’t get off the field and because your offense doesn’t do anything and uh it’s it’s a lower scoring game than what the last three have been but it’s a similar fourth qu I felt like I was watching the same fourth quarter again that we’ve seen over the years um but your defense gets you two turnovers two second half turnovers uh your defense hadn’t turned the ball over against Michigan since the first quarter of the 2021 game your defense gets you two second half turnovers you don’t make anything out of them including one that had you set up like basically at the edge of the Red Zone um it it’s hard to wrap my brain around what I just watched uh I know this like the instant reaction show but the instant reaction is utter confusion about what they trying to accomplish out there today confusion anger disgust sadness I think all of those are you know Fair feelings I’m looking at the chat I’m not going to run the chat we never really run the chat during the first half of the show so you know apologies to people getting stuff in but a lot of you know a lot of people ready for Ohio State to move on from Ryan day I mean Ohio State still going to make the playoff field still you know could sit there and have a run there but you have to beat Michigan this is four years in a row now that Ohio state will not be able to go to Indianapolis will not be able to compete for a big 10 championship and now you’re you’re guaranteed having at best hosting a playoff game at worst having to go to Parts Unknown on on short notice to go play a first round game you know you talk about the mullings you know slipping out of the tackle I mean that was unfortunate but at some point you got to feel that the defense just gave all that it could I mean because yes Michigan had uh 58 total plays Ohio state had 59 but the defensive plays that Ohio state was having to play were all much more physical because of Michigan just slamming into the line whereas Ohio States were probably not as you know as offensive plays were probably not as debilitating uh with you know runs inside that were getting swallowed up at the line of scrimmage and then maybe some throws but Jeremiah Smith you know this was something our producer shed mentioned didn’t have any Targets in the second half really I mean I don’t I don’t understand what they were seeing I was talking to somebody on the sideline saying that that Will was not going all the way through his progression and had Carnell open a couple few times I you know I was something I didn’t necessarily see but again I just I just kept waiting for the big play you know we’ve seen these games and I mean and if you’re an Ohio State fan there’s rarely many games that you think that your team is out of it and it’s just like okay well there’s it’s just going to be a big play and it it never happened and I mean you have to now do some serious soul searching because you have youve lost to Michigan a couple times now as the better team 23 and a half Point favorite is where it opened I think it I think it closed around 20 regardless could know could close to 18 this Ohio State team should have had its way with this Michigan team a Michigan team that had no Colston Levin had no will Johnson lost Donovan Edwards during the game and Ohio State just played down to its level of competition and played around with this food and you know ffo is what happened they effed around and they found out yeah it felt like there were some obviously some big momentum shifts throughout the game um with turnovers and turnovers on downs and you know big plays and it just felt like the offense just never was able the defense made what I would consider three huge plays and just never uh was able the offense was just never able to to build off of that and I think I think the one thing about this game that is so surprising is is the offensive output in the in the second half it was even worse in the first half and I I kept thinking like okay you know they get that touchdown before the half and they’re going to get the ball and I kept thinking okay like you played like crap you’re tied you’re getting the ball in the first half you just had a two-minute Drive score touchdown maybe your offensive coordinator just figured out hey let’s throw it to the receivers and then they come back out and trayan Henderson does God knows what on the kickoff return they start on the six they get their way out of that but then they can’t finish the drive it just like they just were never the offense was never able to build off of the game-changing plays the defense seemed to keep coming up with until they just couldn’t anymore uh in the in the at the end of the game just going to warn people when Ryan day takes the podium I’m going to have to hot punch it for my computer so it’ll be the video come up first and then the audio so bear with me it’ll take a couple seconds but I’m going to be hot punching it from here yeah I don’t know what the second half mission was I’m curious and I don’t think we’re ever going to get the answer did Ryan Day get into the channel and take you know wrestle control away from Chip were these were these chip plays were these Ryan play what you know what was happening there but you know Ohio State comes out and starts running it again to start the second half and it wasn’t working how how stubborn do you have to be how stubborn do you have to be at some point you will not be able to pass at some point you will not be able to pass you know the line and Ohio State just could not do it and just saying well we’re going to keep trying and keep trying that’s great if you got 8 10 quarters of football you have four quarters and at that point you really had two quarters at halftime and Ohio State was was on on the side of the road you know just curled up in the fetal position for the second half offensively it just was not there you know this is going to be a tough game to go back and watch because there wasn’t really even any point where we were like well at least you know they they they strung together some good stuff in this this stretch they didn’t they didn’t I mean Michigan ran a very you know a largely vanilla offense for all for a lot of it and then once you know once you kind of got through that I mean know we we saw the we saw the halfback pass or whatever I was coming back down from the postgame room at that point you know we we saw one or two tricky type of things but Michigan didn’t even really need to do that because mean Ohio State just kind of handed it to them and you know we will Howard had a couple of turnovers I mean I said that if you know I mean what did it end up even or Ohio State minus one on turnovers I’m not I’m not sure um you know we’re starting to get a couple super chats and we will get to those in a little bit but I mean I just don’t I don’t I don’t know I did not see this scenario happening because I I’ve been sold a bill of goods over 11 games even the loss that you know good bad or indiff Ohio State’s going to move the ball Ohio State’s going to do some things on offense we didn’t get that we did not get anything close to that yeah I like I thought Chip Kelly called great a great game against Oregon I thought he called a great game against Penn State and a lot of the Penn State stuff was more execution than play calling as to why they didn’t score in the 30s in that game today was horrendous um and yeah you you wonder like how much collaboration there was with day on this um ultimately it it does fall on day because at at any point in this game D’s on the headset he’s listening to all the calls at any point in this game Ryan a could have stepped in and said what we’re doing is is not working this is ridiculous let’s get our Playmakers the ball in space and that conversation clearly never happened so they if nothing else they were on the same page um because there was no change made do you wonder if he has a hard time telling his mentor no I mean you know his mentor is the OC and you know is working for him but at some point you know is he a to you know you’re the head coach and you’re the guy making N1 million whatever it is and you got to sit there and like it’s this this isn’t it this you know this isn’t it I mean it’s it’s not like Ohio State went into this as a one-trick pony you know it’s going to run and that’s going to be it I mean you have Jeremiah Smith you have auka you have Carnell Tate you have you know so on and so on and so on and so on if they take away your running backs you throw the ball but again I really think that a pivotal game point of the game is when will Howard got got hit up high with with the with the forearm it looked like I didn’t get a great view of it I mean Fox is not Fox is immediately going to commercials and with that we never get replays and they just move on but it it was a it was a malicious hit I mean whether or not it was an illegal hit I you know I I don’t know but it was a malicious hit yeah I mean it was a high hit I the the letter of the law probably you could maybe argue it was targeting for me will Howard’s a ball carrier there and I just don’t have a lot of empathy for ball carriers between the tackles lowering their head I mean they’re going to get hit I mean so but if Will Howard wasn’t right after that hit why on Earth are you keeping him in the game well because I think that there’s a dramatic drop down to Devin Brown and I understand and I said that earlier in the show that if if if Will Howard is 40% after that hit you got to figure something out whether whether or not it’s it’s Devon Brown Julian sayyan at that point win the damn game you can’t screw around with feelings and everything else as you know F your feelings I mean you’ve got to figure it out so nothing nothing at the podium yet was just checking there doing sound checks in here the room is starting to fill up so I expect it to be happening pretty soon I guess I guess I’ll get cancel the hotel reservations for Indianapolis unless unless Ohio State could still go to Indianapolis if if Indiana and Penn State both lose and while Penn State even bigger favorites and and while Penn State absolutely is capable of pooping the bed uh Indiana’s playing Purdue and Purdue is bad really bad but then again coming into today I was saying that Michigan was really really bad and here we are there’s just no excuse for that offensive output I mean I know they’ve got some new guy I know they’ve got some new combinations they’ve had to play on the offensive line but will Johnson’s not out there yes they have a really good defensive line their secondary was vulnerable today we saw that in the first half uh but just couldn’t just refused to put the ball in the in the hands of the of the receiver of your best players like let’s face it even when will Howard was playing well this year throughout the year their best players are Jeremiah Smith and a Mecca abuka and get these guys the ball in space they did the one toss into they got the kind of the speed option with quinon Judkins got a huge gain we never saw that again um it just they just avoided the the perimeter like like the plague and it was uh it was so bizarre to see that and this is a team that’s made a lot of good halftime adjustments and they’ve been a really good second half team so I just thought you know 101 it’s like okay ugly rivalry game other out like they’ll go in and figure this out and they played a worst second half that was the shocking thing to me was they played the worst play a worst second half they did in the first half um no one seemed to learn anything at halftime no like Le anything Ryan day didn’t seem to learn anything um Howard um the inexcusable Red Zone interception although we have Wonder be made the way jeld the ball today so just uh just a bunch of things that just continue to to mount on this in this program and you know the Special Teams blunders my goodness again you missed two chip shots your punter doesn’t do anything for you like kind of you know a couple of short punts the trevan Henderson whatever that was coming out of the the locker room where you’re starting second half the six yard line like when all he had to do was kind of lift put his hand in the air and take the fair catch I I just uh it’s it’s it’s shocking it’s really shocking how bad the offense played today like it’s really really shocking and I’ve been critical of the defense in these last three losses I thought the defense cost him a lot in these last three losses but the defense played as well as I think it reasonably could have today I mean you got two goal line stands one one of those turned into interception you know you got guys you know out there making great plays at the line of scrimmage the I thought the front four did a great job for the most part again I wonder why they weren’t rotating more I think that that’s something if if there’s one thing on the defense you have to look at maybe right now is did they get so gassed at the end because we once again weren’t seeing any of the twos out there in a big game like they just refuse to rotate in these big games the way they rotate in other games and I just you know I I want to see snap counts after to kind of validate that but I it felt like that front four was out there the entire time with occasionally I saw Kade McDonald maybe I saw Kaden Cur Curry once or twice uh and then Kenyata Jackson was in there on a goal line late in the game but it just it just felt like once again they was like we’re just going to roll with our starting four up front and not rotate and maybe maybe that’s what happened at the end on defense maybe they swore down a little bit you could understand it if they did they were put High leverage here’s Ryan here’s Ryan here’s Ryan so here comes Ryan Day we get some answers conference Austin Ward the podcast right I felt like the offense really bogged down start to finish what what was some of the thinking with the Run game and were there some thoughts to adjusting that thr a little bit more there was success in the two-minute drill just evaluate that offensive plan there yeah well I think we we struggle the B to run the ball in this game we know we’ve talked about this many times we have to run the ball especially in this game um it was a little windy out and um you know in order to win the game you got to be able to run it we we we weren’t able to do that um tried a couple different schemes couldn’t quite get into a rhythm on that and that ultimately U along with the turnovers and the Mis field goals was the difference in the game over to the left Cameron te Robinson the athletic Ryan does the miss you mentioned the mfield goes by Jaden how does that what did you say to him and how does that affect maybe your confidence or the team’s confidence in him going into uh the playoff off yeah I’m not I’m not there right now uh quite honestly I’m still trying to digest everything that just happened um and you know got a a locker room full of guys who are just devastated and I I thought they play with great emotion I thought the defense played their tails off and I thought everybody played hard just the overall execution wasn’t good enough especially on offense um well on offense and you know we just we couldn’t control the game um in the Run game just weren’t efficient enough and and overall execution wasn’t good enough in a game like this and um so that’s that’s really what you know what I’m thinking about right now and um you know the guys in at that locker room over to the right Dylan Davis Delaware Gazette Ryan you talk a lot about uh everything always coming back to what you guys do not about who you’re playing what you guys do four straight years now um what you guys done hasn’t been enough in this game where do you even go and how do you pick up the pieces and and trying to go forward in particular with this game in mind yeah I mean I’m just off the game right now and obviously extremely disappointed um and you know angry that we didn’t execute well enough so you know I’m not there right now you know just to fresh off the game but but um as you as you know you know it’s is um not easy to accept and you know obviously have to take the ownership you know it’s it’s you know I’m the one ultimately that you know makes the final decisions on things and you know felt like we were in a really good place coming into this game I felt like we we were prepared to play well in this game and um you know I think you could see maybe some of the the stuff that you know happen in the offensive line and shuffling things around ended up you know really coming to a head today um you know some of those guys left to look at the film and figure it out but we just couldn’t seem to get you know through to the second level on some runs and um you know led to some frustration and then um you know again I thought guys were were were into it even all the way to the end it was a great play uh by Jack on the goal line just unbelievable effort right there to give the offense a chance but you know go three and out and it was fourth and one on our own you know in our Red Zone I just felt like at that point you had to you had to punt it because if you don’t get it there the game’s probably you know really in the bounds so um yeah I don’t know much more to say about it over to the left Dan hope 11 Warriors Ryan the one drive you guys had success on was really the end of the first half you guys are going Tempo no huddle did do you think about going back to that more in the second half and do you wish maybe gone back to that more in the second half I mean we we tried to change up the Huddle I mean the um the tempo a little bit on some things and um some of it worked and some of it didn’t um that that drive um it worked and it was in a two-minute drive and I thought it was well executed but uh you know that was you know just 100% throw on that you know that drive there I think maybe there was a run or two but um but you know but you got to stay on you got to get first Downs when you’re doing that if you don’t get first downs then you know it’s hard to continue to to play with Tempo so um you know there were times we tried to move it a little bit faster you can see we didn’t huddle as much today we tried to get um you know more plays we thought that gave us an opportunity but ultimately it wasn’t enough over to the right Steven means cleveland.com Ron you could probably look at all four of these games and find legit football reasons for why they went the way they went plus other obviously outside factors but at what point does this game become a mental for your team and you maybe see that becoming part of the issue how do you coach out of that yeah I I don’t know but you I can just prob go off of this game and what’s going on in this game right now um I think each game is a little bit different and unique to itself like you said but um but the results the results and um you know as hard as that is to say you know we came up short here again today and um you know not easy to swallow at all Rob baller Columbus Dispatch yeah ran uh will Howard struggled um before he went into the tent after he came into the tent did I don’t know if it’s concussion or if you can speak to any of that but did that did you think about not sending him back out do you think that had anything to do with it um you know we I just go based off of what you know our our doctors say and um you know it came out for a second and then they said he was available and and he was okay to go back in a game and and I checked with him and he said he was in good shape and didn’t recognize anything um just in terms of you know the interaction that led to anything other than for him to go play what did you see in his game that was just maybe off today well um I feel like the you know the the interception um you know in the red area you know that was he floated a little bit and it was a little bit behind him um didn’t have a lot of zip on it kind of died um you know I know he was trying to make a play on the third down in the red zone and probably could have just thrown that away and would had a field goal opportunity there so you know there’s a fine line of trying to make plays and win the game uh but also you know being smart enough to um you know take care of the ball and so that’s that’s the that’s the balance of play you know playing quarterback and um I think we all know that you know will gave everything he possibly had today over to the right Bill Landis Kings of the North Ryan what was the miscommunication that caused you guys to have 12 guys on the field coming out of the timeout yeah there was miscommunication in terms of the grouping based on what they had in the game and you know they were you know fast to run off the sideline and and you know we weren’t given a ton of time to be able to match the personnel and so uh in that moment you as it was getting loud there was there was miscommunication you know in terms of what was in the game and um you know because it was moving so fast there was a little bit of panic going on you know um you know typically when you know a group runs on the field you know you get a little bit of time to make sure you make that substitution you know and and uh you know that that time was very very fast and so you know we had to quickly um you know respond to that and we didn’t well enough and we we panicked and that it cost us uh over to the left uh Pat Murphy 247 Sports Ryan defensively three drives were really all the all that they moved uh what did you see that was successful what did you see that that kind of broke through at the end on those final two drives for them um no I mean they had a couple runs in there and they escaped on one of the um a couple scrambles that kept them on schedule I thought the defense kept fighting their tails off um you know and kept competing though and um you know when when you’re you’re not getting as much momentum on offense you know it can kind of wear in your defense a little bit and I think that’s probably more than anything would happen but I thought they continued to fight the entire game over to the right Brandon Marcelo CBS Sports I’m not sure if any coach faces or face as much pressure as you going of the season because of the roster you built the expectations a lot of people say National Championship or bus and people were in there booing um during the game and people questioning you as a head coach what do you foresee for the future of this program and and for yourself no I mean everybody you know wants to win this game in the worst way you know and nobody wants to win it more than we do and it’s our number one goal every year and so when you don’t you know do that there’s disappoint appointment and frustration and so you know I don’t I don’t blame anybody for being upset I’m upset you know more than than anybody and you know those players are too and the coaches and everybody that goes at it so I mean that’s we know what we’re getting ourselves into here Steve hellwagon 247 Sports yeah coach third quarter twice you’re in the Red Zone with a first down and they had fouled Smith twice in the end zone on pass interference neither of those possessions you put the ball toward the end zone and both of them bogged down Come Away scoreless both times interception Miss field goal just do you lament coming away from not taking a shot to put the ball in the end zone in those situations you know when when you know a defense is is playing softer um and kind of backing up like they did in this game you know you have to be able to take the underneath stuff or run the football and and that’s really you know what happened and um you know there were times we tried to push the ball into the end zone but but ultimately you know you can’t just you know um you know force that you know you gota you got to be smart in what you’re doing um because you know they can put a cloud over him like they did and U put two guys on them so um you know there’s opportunities to do that we did that but also like you know you got to execute in other areas and that’s what we’d always talk about and balance when you don’t have balance and you can’t run and throw the ball when you need to and this is what happens over to the right Tim May the let him in a row yeah R I’m just wondering is going through your mind the squandered opportunities I mean obviously a score two Miss field goals Etc and and is there anything when you and Chip were talking to each other did did you talk about throwing the ball more I mean for one of another term because that seemed to be really H where the opportunities were yeah well you know I I guess we when we end up throwing at the end of the game 33 times out of um I don’t know how many plays we had 59 so it were more passes than runs but um you can’t just you know you can’t just abandon the run you you have to be able to you know you have have to be able to control the ball because as we know and you throw the ball and and it was it was windy today and um you know we didn’t have a ton of time back there in terms of protection so um you we tried to be smart about that um without you know again that we had a good plan in the past game going in but um ultimately it wasn’t wasn’t good enough to execute it but yeah I mean those are all things you talk about and make sure you’re doing the best you can this is obvious this goes extremely disappoint no I mean you know the turnovers the rushing yards and then you know you you again you know you miss opportunities you know like those two field goals yeah I mean it’s going to it’s going to cost you a game like this every every yard matters every Point matters and um it didn’t get done along the aisle Jake Trower ESPN Ryan do you have comment on the melee that happened at Midfield after the game you had staff and assistant coaches that looked like they got bloodied uh during the Skirmish yeah I don’t know all the details of it but I know that you know these guys you know are looking to you know put a flag on our field and our guys weren’t going to let that happen so um you know I’ll find out exactly what happened but you know this is this is our field and and certainly you know we’re embarrassed with the fact that we lost the game but you know there’s some prideful guys on his team that weren’t just gonna let that happen over to the left Joey caufman Columbus Dispatch Ryan is just to F clarifying the fight is everybody the health of your guys or everybody okay or just yeah I don’t I don’t know if I know all that right now um there was a couple things kind of crazy that went on down there but I I think everybody’s okay address it with your guys well I just I talked to the team after the game and um you know again without knowing all the details you know there’s some prideful guys on our team that you know you know aren’t just GNA sit back and watch that happen so um got time for just a couple more Bill re benowitz Columbus Dispatch ran obviously The Season’s not lost you have the off but this was this meant so much to your guys How concerned are you that getting past this and moving on probably not the big 10 championship game if you could speak to that disappointment but regrouping for the playoff tough will that be um I don’t know yeah I’m fresh off the you know we’re Fresh Off The Game and so I I don’t really have the answer to that um yeah I mean we’re we’re we’re very disappointed you know never thought this would happen right here and um you know we’re expecting to win this game and then go play in the Big 10 championship game and neither of those things happen so um you know we don’t know what’s going on now um you know this is just too soon to try to figure out what’s next um you know but once we have more information in about a week we’ll we’ll figure that part of it out I’ll I’ll bring them together here pretty soon and talk to them but there’s a lot of guys who are crushed right now and final questions over to the right Spencer H Brook lman row yeah kind of along along those those lines uh you had seniors come back who said that they the biggest goal was just to beat the team up north what is the message to those guys right now just played very likely their final home game in this Stadium yeah um there’s not much great nothing you can say at this point you got to take the ownership of it and and that’s hard and you know ultimately you know it’s it starts with me and um you know there’s not there’s no words right now that can you know address any of that because of what they put into the program and you know these are great guys who you know give unbelievable effort and ultimately we just didn’t excute well enough in this game and um again you know it starts with me and and goes goes from there great coach thank you very much all right guys all right we’ll have uh Cody Simon here uh momentarily that was Ryan day looks like Michigan’s wrapping up their post game we’ll get back to Ohio State side for Cody Simon all right we will open up the floor for Cody questions right here over to the right right behind you Spencer H Brook Letterman row yeah Cody you’re one of the leaders of this team uh I don’t know where do you guys go from here right now and you especially being the leader how do you regroup these guys knowing that you’re probably going to still have a couple games left to play yeah um not really right now um it’s frustrating you know for all the seniors all the older guys so we’re just going to have to you know lick our wounds and get regrouped but so this this I don’t think anything’s hurt more than this over to the left Cody uh Cameron Teague Robinson the athletic Cody it didn’t seem like they they were gonna they it’s a staying drives in that first half but they got two in that second half obviously the the field at the end just was there anything that they did um that was different or we just just kind of chipping away at play uh we just didn’t get stops when we needed to um know we need to be prepared to win games and just on defense and we we didn’t get the stop when we needed to get a stop so uh over to the right Stephen means cleveland.com Cody I know this is an emotional moment for you this is part of the reason why you came back can you just take us through what you guys are feeling in that locker room right now coming off of another loss like this I can’t really speak to everybody else but I just I feel like I left I let you guys down let all what our nation you know think there’s more we could have done I don’t know but just could have done more I don’t know let you guys down I’m sorry over to the left Dan hope 11 Warriors Cody you had said this week you felt it was important for you guys to play freely that it’s still just football and you guys needed to be not afraid to go up there and make plays do you feel like you guys played that way and if not then why not I mean this game is’s a lot of there’s a lot of pressure in this game I think we for the most part we did but you know the moment sometimes you it gets it gets all tense and so sometimes you can’t make all the plays you need to but just got we got to get a stop that’s really what it is uh over to the right Tim May Letterman row Cody I couldn’t see you know clearly who all was where in the melee afterwards when they tried to plant their flag Ryan Day basically indicated you know the impetus was they tried to plant their flag at Midfield for you guys where were you and all that and what did you see and how did you help try to break things up or you know just what was your view of that I I heard the commotion I didn’t I think I was late to it but I ran in there but I’m not we we want to stay together as a team and I don’t want to focus about that I I just want to keep the keep the focus on you know having to regroup and we know there’s more season left for us so stay focused all right we’ll have one more question in the middle Jake Trotter ESPN yeah what is what does it say about the Rivalry for them to try to do that and then you know how do you guys bounce back with a lot of season left despite losing these guys for a board straight time I don’t know I mean we just gota I don’t really know what it’s going to look like but this is this is It’s hurts and we gota come together as a team I mean I seniors got to be leaders and we gotta you know really make a difference here but it’s hard to swallow his pills so Cody thank you very much all right so I’m I’m not sure if we’re done right now or not but that was Cody Simon we will see if they bring anybody else it looks like maybe there’s shiron Moore up at the Michigan Podium you know in pra the worst situations and he just drills it he just looks at you like yeah that’s what I’m supposed to do so uh the guy’s amazing he’s awesome great teammate great kid conat know know you guys what had happened this year I wonder was there a moment today where you could feel that Ohio sh we just I mean we just kind of went about our process of what we thought and uh you know we got it up in the fourth quarter and uh I told everybody to listen you know listen to the sounds and there was nothing you know so we knew at 1010 we had them and uh that’s that was the goal you know we wanted to just keep on the ropes keep fighting and our guys did that you know but it wasn’t really about what anybody else thought we didn’t talk about belief we just talked about trust trust in each other trust in yourself trust in what you can do and go win the game did play the next play Pho you know they’ve got really good players too so we all talk about phto forget it and drive on you know big plays plays are going to happen they’re good team so that’s what we did uh I mean this week is always pretty intense every week’s intense but I think there’s just a level of focus a level of detail L of concentration that everybody knows what’s at stake for this week and those signs of what are you doing in beat Ohio State today uh get even bigger in your mind thought process so the process of what we did wasn’t the same or wasn’t different it was the same as we usually are [Music] I don’t know I can’t tell you what they think I just know that our guys knew what we could do and uh wasn’t really worried about what they thought well for us like I said before we don’t really care what other people think it’s about what our players in the building think and what everybody around us think and uh you know we’re just happy we we we be Ohio state that that was the most important thing today and that’s where we’re riding withn lose does that apprach or really not yeah I don’t think we ever say just do not lose we just talk about how to win and what we what we need to do to win never put the losing factor in your mind and our guys never never had the losing thought in their mind how did you feel coming out of that did you feel like just that in general kind of maybe threw you out of rhythm and you were kind of struggling to to to catch up again the rest of the game felt good enough to come back over to the left Dan hope 11 Warriors well just as somebody who you know obviously you came here this a big reason why you came here you’re a leader of this team what do you do now to try to regroup this team coming off of this going forward to a playoff it’s hard man uh I really have much right now um but I do know that you know we’re a two- lost team we’re gonna we’re going to get in the playoffs and we’re going to make a run but I I mean this one hurts it hurts over to the right Austin Ward the podcast well it’s felt like when you guys go Tempo when you rely especially that drive right before halftime when you guys put it in the air a lot that’s maybe when you’re at your best right now I know you don’t want to criticize coaches or play calling or game plan but is there anything a quarterback or you guys can do to say hey can we stick with this a little bit more yeah I’m not I’m I’m sorry I’m going to stay away from that right now all right we’ll go to the left Joey Kaufman Columbus Dispatch will when you came out there in the second quarter were you evaluated for concussion what what was the the steps there I uh got banged up and I was good enough to come back yep yeah was got banged up got hit you know and uh yeah it was it was my head and was good enough to come back so over to the right Jake trod or ESPN on what happened after the nope Rob baller over to the left Columbus Dispatch you go from here you guys couldn’t run the ball against a pretty stout defense what happens now I just said it we’re gonna regroup and go into the playoffs make a run over to the right Bill Rabinowitz Columbus Dispatch s to make to ask you about the interceptions what did you see on those on those plays both of them uh were on me um you know the first one first one we’re we’re throwing out routes um you know they they’re playing like Palms reading eyes inside and I got to keep it outside and I can’t can’t let him make that play in the second one um you know Mech was running an option route he went out came back in and um I was just a little behind him on the throw uh we got time for just a couple more Dennis DOD CBS Sports well on the list of everything that happened today where was well we’re in the playoffs at least we’re in playoffs where does that stand right now very low I mean when when will you start you know hey we can win the national championship tomorrow after today over to the left Cameron Teague Robinson well I know obviously you weren’t here for all four losses but you just obviously you’ve talked about put you want to go on you guys are going to go on and run the playoff as a guy who’s the leader of this group knowing how that locker room feels what do you do or what do you say to Rally this group it’s hard right now I I I don’t know if I have the answer to that right now at this moment but um gonna go and get with my family get you know regroup and man I I still love this team I still love this University and uh I’m just I’m sorry man I I just I’m blessed to to have the opportunity to be a buckeye and um I’m sorry I couldn’t get this one done and final question over to the right Tim May Letterman row go ahead okay number one what uh after that drive the end of the first half you had to feel like something good was going on right I mean what what kind of didn’t work after that and then number two what drives a guy to want to get back into a game he’s just been kind of knocked out of explain that to people who maybe don’t get it can you repeat that second part I’m sorry yeah what drives a guy to want to get back into game where he’s just been sort of helped off the field what what is that motivation that drive that wants you to get back into that game I mean like everything inside me wants to get I mean there there’s there’s nothing that that inside of me that that wanted to come off that field I was trying to get up and uh you know it hurts man it hurts and uh you know we got to go back and look at the film and see what happened in the second half um you know I I don’t know I don’t know what it was um but you know we got to execute better and um bottom line is is we lost and uh and it hurts man and I can’t say it enough I’m sorry to Buckeye Nation but um listen we we still got still still got things ahead of us and uh we can still run the table and win a National Championship and um you know I think at the end of the day that’s that’s what we have to focus on and and you know that’s got to keep us going because this one hurts like like hell man and I just I feel for those guys that came back you know I feel for uh for Coach day everything they poured into this and uh you know at the end of the day um we still we still got stuff in front of us so we’ll uh we’ll regroup and and and go from there tomorrow great well thank you very much thank you guys God bless all right yeah I think that’ll be it for so that’ll do it for the Ohio State portion of the postgame it looks like shiron Moore is still at the Michigan Podium Kevin’s back with us here um you know after listening to Ryan day it sure feels to me like they were gonna try and establish the running game and that was that did you get the same CH in there with today during his I I did but I also was fighting with the chat because there are a lot of people who like to come and and try to pee on the the car wreck that they’ve seen but uh yeah it seems like they wanted to run the ball come hell or high water and both hell and high water happen yeah that was definitely the vibe I got listening to uh to Ryan day afterwards is they they just were obsessed with establishing the run and just couldn’t get away from that Obsession um but I I think I think the important thing was hit on there as far as like moving forward they’ve got it like it’s always a good thing after losing this game that they weren’t already in the Big 10 championship game in my opinion because I think they need these few weeks to like flush the system if you don’t do you agree with that or would you because I think if they had already been in like they were scheduled for a rematch with Oregon already next week I think I don’t I don’t know if this team’s ready to play in seven more days no I don’t I don’t think that they’d be ready either I mean this you know this is this one’s going to leave a mark and uh you need a couple weeks to have it scab over and everything else and you know there are a lot of people out there that are not Ohio State fans or maybe pretending to be Ohio State fans but aren’t that they’re like this team shouldn’t even make the playoff well it a it ain’t your choice so I mean they’re going to make the playoffs and you’re just going to have to deal with it and um you know if the thing is people are going to say well how could you sit there and beat you know one of the you know 12 best teams in the country if you can’t you can’t beat Michigan well I mean I think there’s something mental to it right now I don’t you know I don’t know what what it is but you know I’ve said it that I think they need to have a little bit more of the of the urban Meyers style of prep where you just have these guys to the point of where they’re ready to tear everything off the walls and and just go out there um once again it was a slow start for Ohio State it was the first game in six games that they scored points on their first offensive series unfortunately it was three would have been anything more than three you know we’re talking about a different outcome at that point but I mean it’s it was you know certainly problematic and um you know they’re going to have to they’re going to have to figure it out and hopefully for Ohio State they don’t go from from two to you know 10 or something like that and and and have to to travel to Knoxville or to Athens Georgia even though I think they would kick the crap out of Georgia uh you know one of those types of situations yeah I mean obviously the the two key things now are how do you put this behind you and get ready because you can still win a National Championship you’re going to be one of the 12 in the field um and then on top of that home game Road game first round kind of to be determined I would think if it’s important to to Ohio State fans to have the Buckeyes be at home I would think you’re rooting certainly you’re rooting for Oregon um in the Big 10 Championship that would get you one spot closer I don’t think they’ll fall behind Indiana um I believe Tennesse beat vanderbelt would they fall would they drop him behind Tennessee that I don’t know I think they’re kind of insulated by by Tennessee there drop him below Tennessee I don’t I don’t I don’t think so either we’ll bring in Tony German here in a second so can jump in carry the co-host role until I can get set up for the camera for Tom and Tony um you know it’s it’s a situation of where we’ve heard the narrative I watched that Georgia game last night Joe tesor told us 49 different times that with a win Georgia was locked into the playoff which you know nobody is really necessarily confirmed or whatever but apparently Bristol uh Connecticut has weighed in on that and said you need to say this multiple ways and multiple times which they did did so um you know we’ll see we’ll see um I know nobody is really all that excited about anything that’s going on at this moment but you know join us on Tuesday for our uh our our our standing Show again it’s going to take you know it’s going to take an inside straight for Ohio State to get to Indianapolis a pair of losses with um with both uh Indiana and Penn State needing to lose I would not necessarily expect that to happen but I did I didn’t see I didn’t see the day coming in that way and uh here we are and there’s going to be a lot of unpacking to do but I will let Tony jump in here and I will start setting up oh um yeah I’m not sure how well you can hear me I hope you can hear me okay I uh this to me G this game for me just comes down to basically four special teams plays and it’s your your two missed field goals the there’s a punt return that Caleb DS didn’t make where the ball bounced and he couldn’t get to it and it cost him about 30 yards and then there there was a kickoff return for trayon Henderson that he didn’t field that caused it at the start of the second half that pinned them at the six or whatever you catch that you fair catch that you’re not pinned back like those four things to me really really stood out but um what I’ve been saying all year long with this Michigan team is if you don’t give them anything you you they they can’t beat you and Ohio State gave them gave them a couple of turnovers and then gave them hope and they didn’t have enough Ohio State didn’t have enough offense to kind of eliminate that hope and then when you when Jack St gets his interception and you go three and out from that you don’t capitalize on these things it just grows and it snowballs and sure it was it was definitely windy on the on the field but they were throwing the ball pretty well I just I kept saying all all week long Ryan day keeps talking about the team that runs the ball best will win to me this is kind of a um self-fulfilling prophecy because Ohio State didn’t need to run it and by trying to run it they got out rushed and they’re running it you know two yards a pop or whatever wasted downs and and so now now here you are and I boy this one this one is a stunner in many many ways and yeah you still have the play playoffs nobody cares right now yeah I I asked Kevin this coming out of the press conference Kevin and I were talking before the media availabilities if clearly Ryan day and Chip Kelly were on the same page because if they weren’t we would have seen something different in the second half you know at the end of the day Ryan day is the head coach he’s on the set with Kelly all game he can tell Chip like look dude we need to we need to open this up we need to we need to start throwing the ball around that conversation clearly never took place as they the second half I thought was even worse than the first half uh in terms of of play calling and certainly in terms of offensive output uh it was but did it feel like listening to Ryan Day in the post game that there was like an obsession that he had to win this game the way Michigan has won the last three like he had to even the score somehow by out physicing Michigan and running the ball down their throat and and just doing it that way there it it bordered on an obsession yeah it trying trying to prove a point and it it just didn’t happen and so now you you’ve got to deal with that and you know you you guys saw him talking about the 33 passes to 26 rushes and so you know hey we did Throw It 33 times and like you could have thrown it more and when you’re running the ball for three yards a carry and really that’s the bulk of maybe a couple of runs giving them the majority of their yardage the quinon Judkins 17 yard there wasn’t n’t enough going and he said they tried some different schemes a couple of different schemes there was just nothing there and I I completely agree that the offensive line issues caught up to them in this game and so knowing that maybe just continue to spread it out but there were I thought the tempo worked well the two-minute drill and I I don’t know why we didn’t see more of that he did say well we try we tried to change tempos we did some things but they only did that once they only did that thing once and it was successful I don’t know why you until maybe the last drive but that doesn’t really count because you’re you’re on life support at that point so I feels like um they outsmarted themselves or just trying to prove a point that you don’t need to prove a w in the win column is is much better than a rushing title basically and the struggles that they’ve had running the ball this year I don’t know why you want to try to prove that against Michigan when they’re giving up 60 to 90 yards rushing now they have been they have gotten hit by Oregon and and Illinois and Michigan State in the running game but they um it didn’t keep Michigan State from losing that game but you got to tackle K Mings which they had done for the most part until until the end and that that was a familiar thing as well so yeah the idea that you know we’ve got to be more physical or we’ve gotta do this we’ve got to do that you gotta do what wins the game and they haven’t and I think they would have had better success throwing the ball although this is also will Howard’s worst game you know he threw two bad interceptions so how many more how much more do you want him throwing the ball because he did throw two interceptions that were not were not what he normally does although we did get back to his two to three bad plays which wasn’t necessarily unexpected given that those plays tend to happen against their best opponents so this is certainly a surprise but it’s not a surprise in that that will Howard had a couple of issues against the best defense he’s faced probably this year for as soft as Michigan was playing in the secondary I thought they could have taken more Advantage but I still don’t the wind is probably a factor not going downfield certainly Against the Wind but they never really tried to take advantage of when they had it either and will Howard is underthrown some balls so maybe throwing it deep With the Wind would have been the the precise difference that they needed to get some timing down yeah and the two minute drill was into the wind yeah so yeah I mean it it’s baffling and like we were saying before before he jumped on it was like a perfect storm of you know Chip Kelly’s worst game and will Howard’s worst game so when your play caller calls his worst game and your quarterback plays his worst game that’s a recipe for disaster when you play a good defense yeah 100% And then when you do have special teams issues and Michigan’s first two drives their first two scoring drives cover two yards and three yards like you’re you know you are giving them the game you’re giving the game away and what what did they have I’m just looking here real quick to see their long drives today they had the 77 Y and the 57 y those were the two their two final drives of the game other than that you they had the 172 y in the second in the the first quarter that turned into a a loss on downs but they had six drives of two yards five yards three yards six yards four yards three yards and those drives gave them 10 points and gosh they won 13 to1 and so if you don’t give them those things you’re gonna have a really good chance of winning so their 72 yard Drive in the first quarter ends up in the turnover on Downs their 77 yard drive from the the the end of the third the start of the fourth ends in an interception like they couldn’t capitalize on those you made plays to keep them out of the end zone but then you make plays to uh get them right back into it and this one it would almost I wonder if they would feel better if they got outplayed rather than giving the game away and certainly Michigan played well enough to win because they won but I I was looking at the uh the numbers and so Michigan 234 yards of total offense I just while um will Howard was talking I was trying to find the last time they lost a game Ohio State lost a game by giving up that few amount of yards and it was 2005 at Penn State Penn State put up 195 yards and won I believe 10 to seven yeah this was a in many ways it was the fourth quarter was a lot like previous fourth quarters in this series it just felt like the offense really never had the ball and when it did it just wasn’t able to to do anything with it but the difference here you know they get two second half turnovers they hadn’t forced a turnover in this game since the first quarter of the 2021 game it had been that long since Ohio FC had forced a turnover in this game if you had told me before the game that they would force two second half turnovers I’m thinking Ohio State’s winning this game by three or four touchdowns at that point because that’s the one thing they consistently have not done in these losses is force Michigan to make mistakes and they forced two turnovers today and again you tell me they’re going to get they’re going to give up fewer than 250 yards again a lot of things here defensively that if you would have told me before the game I am definitely I’m tripling down on Ohio State winning this game it it’s a very very shocking output by the offense today there’s really no expl there’s really no explanation for it you know logical explanation for it no points in in the second half I and and I I just looked uh once again the no forced punt in the fourth quarter by the Ohio State Defense now there was an interception and a yes there was so um but I no points in in the second half and you get the ball to start the second half but it just it started poorly with that initial kickoff return attempt by trayon Henderson and they just could not get anything going it was it’s very very bizarre both teams are playing with the wind both teams are playing with the conditions Warren Davis Warren only had to throw it 16 times Michigan ran it 42 and they seemed perfectly happy to get three yards a carry from colal Mings they get three yards three yards and then we’ll try to figure out what we’re going to do on this third and four third and five and they ended up doing um seven of 14 which Michigan’s third down conversion is is something they’ve struggled with third and Longs is something they’ve struggled with they didn’t have nearly enough third and Longs I did some uh put a stat out there this week that Michigan has only scored one touchdown on a drive where they got sacked no sacks in this game so the there was only only three tackles for lost and I think two of those came in the second half the the line of scrimmage say what you want about the Ohio State offensive line getting being a a makeshift offensive line the Ohio State defensive line got tired got beaten up got pushed gave up 170 some yards rushing those are all losing numbers we the one thing we kind of talk about like it’s hard for me to throw a lot of criticism at the defense in this game um but I’m once again left wondering and maybe the maybe the maybe my brain was off today and maybe maybe the numbers will prove that I’m exaggerating this it felt like once again in a big game that the defensive line rotation was just completely almost eliminated that we saw a glimpse of Kaden McDonald a glimpse of Kaden Curry and a little glimpse of kinata Jackson in a goal line situation but it once again felt like boy Ty Le and and Hamilton and Sawyer and JT boy they’re out there like seemingly every snap again why do they do this why do why do you trust the rotation some weeks and you you don’t you see the drop off or lack thereof and then you don’t trust it in these big games um you know I think you know like Jack Sawyer played well he had you know huge I mean that that goes down as one of the greatest plays of the Rivalry you know if they’re able to march the ball down the field but it did feel like the defense particularly that front four uh lost some steam there in the fourth quarter and again was it was it the rotation again yeah I mean that’s a good question I did see it’s hard to chart like who’s out there on the fly right and you like you said you did see Kenyata Jackson out there a little bit I did see a play or two with Mitchell Melton but generally you would expect your starters to go out there so I I’ll be interested to see what it looks like with the snap counts but in terms of the rushing total Michigan had 77 of their 172 yards rushing in the fourth quarter 19 for 77 in the fourth quarter 10 for 67 in the first quarter and in the middle two quarters 13 for 28 they they were held in check but then they had eight first downs in that first quarter or in that fourth quarter with um four or five on third down and again this is not the defense’s fault they they gave up 13 points and two of those scoring drives totaled five yards so I would also agree with Ryan day when he said that when your offense isn’t doing much eventually your defense gets tired and this I think is is proof of that you just that the defense eventually wore out and they Michigan had their short Fields but even they drew drove 80 yards until that interception and you see the time of possession 33 minutes and 35 seconds for Michigan just running the clock taking their time and then you know taking the ball and going home and and I would imagine the the second halftime of possession was really lopsided because Ohio State sustained a couple of drives in the first half several drives in the first half that just didn’t sometimes they resulted in points sometimes didn’t but they they had possession they were getting first downs the the second half that might be the most shocking thing was that the second half offensive performance was worse than the first half offensive performance like we’re no and I’m not a Hu like I get it like it’s always kind of a lazy take just be like didn’t you make any halftime adjustments like you can’t just throw out like everything you’ve done as a team for weeks and then just automatically you know reinvent yourselves and 20 minutes in the locker room but what you can do is you can open up the Playbook a little bit and start throwing it to your to your receivers and getting the ball out and space to your Playmakers even the Run game you mentioned earlier the quinon Judkins run that was on a speed option we never saw that again it was wide open why would you run that again you I mean that was like candy from a that’s been candy from a baby all year no one’s defended that play this year Judkins has had numerous 15 20 25 yard runs on that very play we didn’t see that again um I I just I can’t imagine what the mindset was of the offensive Brain Trust at halftime that would have led to what we saw in the second half well and I’m just looking at the the second half numbers here in that fourth quarter no first downs in the fourth quarter Ohio state ran the ball two times for nine yards threw it five times for one yard will Howard is one of five passing they had 10 total yards in the fourth quarter uh two penalties 0 for two on third downs and even the third quarter 10 rushes 32 yards 10 passes 55 yards Howard was six of 10 with h with an interception and 97 total yards in the second half and you three of eight on third Downs total just there’s nothing there’s nothing what’s the most constructive criticism you can say about the offense in the second half I don’t know if there is any because at this point um you would expect better and the condition are what they are I think maybe now people will understand why when the playoff talk was started a couple years ago about hosting a home game or maybe playing at Lucas Oil for that home game why jeene Smith was like you know I don’t think playing at Indianapolis is a bad thing as opposed to Ohio stadium this is exactly what he was talking about yeah I uh I just I don’t have the answers uh for the offense today um you know again we Kevin and I were talking about this a little bit though this team has to get P like it they made this their entire season some of these guys they’ve got to get over this like I know no one wants to hear that right now but like they have to get over this they’re still they’re probably gonna have a home playoff game in a few weeks yeah and it’s it is literally a few weeks like three weeks from yesterday or today if they get a home game or if they’re on on the road or whatever um so they’re going to have to snap out of it but also they’re going to be in pain for a little while as Cody Simon as will Howard said you know there are no thoughts of the playoffs right now essentially and then maybe that starts tomorrow and Ryan Day said he’ll get them together but I know the players don’t want to hear about it they’ll start to want to hear about it but a loss like this how are they able to just turn it around now you can negate this by turning it around but I mean it takes more than just uh buying in you still have to you’re gonna have to execute you’re gonna have to play better than you did in this one you’re gonna have to get over this one and really that might be the toughest part you can’t let the the the mental aspect of this carry forward as they say you can’t let Michigan beat you twice this season you got to get over it and get past it but you’re not going to do it this week you know I I don’t you know I don’t know when that process starts but it’s not going to be for a little while they they’ll try to talk themselves into it tomorrow but even even after the Oregon game you know it saw it took them a little while to shake that off and and you saw the results coming out of out of that game a by week and then playing Nebraska and still having to struggle through that so um yeah they’re gonna have to turn it around and it’s not GNA be easy and then of course you’ve got kind of the elephant in the room which is I mean look a a not insignificant portion of this fan base has been on Ryan day’s case for a while now um they’re in a situation right now where I think the only thing that gets people to even take a little bit of their foot off the gas on that is to go win the National Championship now like if this team doesn’t go win a National Championship what does this off season look like for Ryan Day well yeah I at some point you wonder if um and Tom has arrived so we can jump off here in a little bit but you wonder if it would just be best for everybody to move on because this is is this something that he wants to continue to do I don’t think he’s being fired I don’t think this that’s what this would be about but would he would is he ready to move on and that’s something that um wouldn’t shock me if there’s a there’s a conversation about it at least all right well I will uh kick it back to you guys uh looks like Tom’s Tom and Kevin are set up uh go ahead Tony and uh start the Buckeye weekly portion of the post game portion of the post hello everybody Welcome to the Buckeye weekly podcast I’m Tony German here as always with Tom or Tom how’s it going Tony I have great news for you I’m mostly dodged the pepper spray down on the field so I know that was probably everyone’s top priority the top topic that everyone to talk about on the postgame show don’t worry I’m fine you can go about living your your lives happily uh and concern free so I came upstairs when uh when will Howard threw the incompletion so I want to come up here and get set and then eventually they turn the TV on in here and there’s this melee going on and just just wrapping up yeah in the middle of the field so I had no idea what was going on down there and then you saw it a little bit on on the television and you saw like players down players getting up and didn’t know what was going on down there and and then we had uh one of the lantern photographers come up and had she had gotten pepper sprayed and and was like there was some concern there and it was like a real situation down there oh yeah it was a real situation there were a couple Ohio State staffers I saw who I know CJ Barnett looked like he had gotten a face full of pepper spray if youve ever been pepper sprayed it is not fun I got I got pepper sprayed as a lantern reporter covering a uh late night riot in the spring of 2000 I believe it is not a lot of fun you feel like you can’t breathe your eyes are burning so yeah it’s it is not a lot of fun um my view of the postgame melee was I was on the side shooting you know over towards the band shooting uh the Carmen Ohio she’s shooting photos of the guys doing Carmen Ohio and saw a flag coming and just took off running I was like I know what this is going to be and you just sort of saw this like Ripple across the Ohio State players who then turned and you know recognized it and turned and ran and there a lot of pushing and shoving and a lot of grabbing and a lot of name calling and that kind of stuff it wasn’t it was not from what I saw you know the uh the Ned FIU Miami fight where it was swinging helmets and Swinging crutches from what I saw because there were there were a couple people that came up afterwards and said that was a legit fight oh it was it was a legit it was a legit fight I do wonder if there will be any suspensions for whatever game comes next because there will be a review of all of this there will be it was it it was not it was not the you know it was an ugly scene but I you know was not a you know you are worried someone is going to get killed kind of fight like sometimes you see who was it was it miles Garrett someone swung a helmet at someone at one point in the NFL like that’s one thing this was it was a fight and it was pushing and shoving and you know Jack Sawyer you know someone one of the Michigan players was running with the flag and Jack Sawyer like grabbed the flag and threw it and you know so so but to me I don’t look at that as um I don’t look look at that as you know oh boy everyone everyone needs to be suspended everyone you know and it will shock you to learn Tony that in the Michigan press conference uh Ohio State 100% instigated it should had no blame no role whatsoever in the in the thing and uh Ryan D said was asked about it he’s like well you know when you you’re trying to plant a flag this is a prideful group of guys and so they they didn’t want to let that happen it’s not something I don’t think Ryan day is like go out there and get it it’s like these are prideful guys and then I did see I think colum Mings on the TV postgame interview talking about it it’s like he said it’s unfortunate but Ohio State needs to learn to lose yeah and and there was that was a question that got asked by about a couple people in the Michigan postgame press conference you know losing with dignity or losing with class and no one really wanted to answer that it’s you know and we have a clip from uh Davis Warren talking about it and you know we’ll we’ll play that a little later but it’s you know he basically said yeah you had you wanted to defend your field you had three hours to do that you didn’t do it so you know we’re going to win we’re going to plan our flag it was just kind of very matter of fact we we’ll let you hear the whole thing from him a little later on but it’s hard to disagree with that like you win you you have a chance to win you’re favored by three touchdowns I mean this is this is an Ohio State Michigan game you and I have seen before I mean it was it was one point off of the 1996 game and it was was pretty much the 1996 game where it was like well you just can’t give up the one play and it was like well give up a touch interception in the you know in your own Red Zone that gives Michigan the early touchdown of the game and defense plays great all game and the offense just they’re kicking field goals they’re try you’re they’re trying to kick field goals they’re settling for field goals how about that you’re you’re sort of wondering what what uh game offensive coordinator Joe Hollis and or offensive coordinator Chip Kelly are watching because the play calling be wore no resemblance to what was actually happening on the field for long stretches it felt like just the the we must run the ball and we talked about that all week long you don’t need to run the ball you just need to move the ball this infatuation with running the ball I think was a a self-fulfilling prophecy and did them in but I mean you can look all over the place for for numbers of why you lost two of five in the Red Zone you know when when I first got on I jumped on with Mark and I said to me this comes down to four special teams plays the two missed field goals there was a punt return that the punt that Caleb DS did not field and and it cost him 30 yards well and as soon as and and the and the trivan Henderson kick off at the beginning of the third quarter again you start inside your own 10 yard line and they were they were terrified to throw the ball when they were backed up absolutely ter terrified well they threw an interception back to they did but you know they kept kicking field goals so obviously you know one one failure should not dissuade anyone from continuing on that P not only did they kick field goals they settled for a field goal they ran a draw play on Third and 10 like boy that that was Tony life is full of choices well and in this one I was talking to Marcus Hartman we were like you know I state gets the ball out of the half they score touchdown that’s probably all they need yeah and that started right off the game yeah that could have turned it from the 1996 Ohio State Michigan game to the 2007 Ohio State Michigan game where Michigan can’t do anything on offense and the all you have to do is get a lead and they’re completely hopeless Davis Warren finished the game nine for 16 for 62 yards no touchdowns and two picks I mean they could do nothing and they had two runs of any consequence all game it was the Alex orgy run that was 29 yards I don’t know why we didn’t see more Alex orgy that was it was it was a day full of choices by both coaching staffs but then you had the one we talked about this in the pregame show you can’t have the three yard gain that turns into 30 yard gain and that was there was the one play where they missed a tackle on col Owens and that was it that was that was all it took to set up that game-winning field goal yep when you’re when you’re zero score game when it’s a tie game in the fourth quarter it just takes that one and and they got it and then Michigan was able to milk the clock and just run it down but their first two scoring drives to would you care to look at those uh yeah two plays two yards four plays three yards Michigan had one drive where they scored points that went longer than three yards this was this was the Jim nolles Masterpiece Jim NES was the Ohio State Defense was fantastic Jack Sawyer played the game of his life I mean the Ohio State Defense was so good all game long Jim nolles Jim nles defense can’t force punts they can’t force turnovers in the second half punt interception interception field goal after that got strung out there again you know because the offense couldn’t do anything and then that was it like but Tom no punt in the fourth quarter yeah because want throw that in there yeah yeah because because they forced an interception in the fourth quarter yeah but it’s just and as Ryan Day said they did eventually just kind of wear down 19 rushes 77 yards in the fourth quarter and 30 of that on the the K Mings compare that to what with what Ohio state did in the fourth quarter and it’s insane that Ohio State managed two nine yards rushing one yard passing in the fourth quarter and yeah they got backed up but yeah they were terrified when they were down there right well it was just it was just a game where they very clearly didn’t feel comfortable with Will Howard throwing the ball for whatever reason I I I was not in here so I’m sure this got asked yeah you had a drive where you were throwing the ball and running Tempo and you went boom boom boom boom boom Night play 75 yards touchdown and then you didn’t really go back to that at any point I mean I don’t want to oversimplify things Tony but it feels like if something’s working you might want to give it a second shot and they said they they did mix up some Tempo and it’s like yeah but they didn’t do that they never did that again do the thing that works until they stop the thing that works no no that’s not how it’s going to work and that’s not how it worked and so now you are in a situation where you just you can’t even lick your wounds because you’re bleeding too badly like you you’re just a pool yeah right now here Ohio State should get down on their knees tonight and thank the Lord that it is a 12 team playoff and they get another chance because they probably they probably fall out of the top four in a four team playoff now you’re still looking at a home game the weekend December 20th and 21st so you know not all is lost but you’ve now lost your opportunity to beat Michigan for the fourth year in a row bar ing two Miracles involving Purdue and Maryland you’ve lost your opportunity to play in Indianapolis for the fourth year in a row so uh my advice to Ryan day would be to win the national championship because otherwise you’re 0 for 12 on your your stated team goals over the foure span and at that point like I mean I heard you right before I hopped on like at the Ryan day is not getting fired but it’s probably time for a conversation about like maybe there might be mutually beneficial for everyone to just sort of take a step back and think about what they want to do in the future because obviously he wants to leave with some sort of a Michigan win but you know next year you’ve got a win there it’s gonna be more difficult and clearly Michigan doesn’t have to have a great team to beat you so now now you’re you’re behind the eightball on that one so it would not Shock me and I said this before we were talking about this with some other folks before um things got started that maybe it’s maybe everybody just needs a new a change of series yeah Ryan day more than Ohio State well yeah you go back to some of the stuff Ryan Day talked about earlier in the week about what a win would mean in this and how hard it’s been on his family the last few years unless you win the national championship is not getting easier on your family this year like it just it may just be you know ry’s won a crapload of football games in Columbus Ohio and there is you know this is the game you have to win everyone knows that everyone say everyone says that like this is a universally acknowledged truth this is the game you have to win you don’t have to win every single one but you got to win at least two out of four and if not three out of four and you know the fact that he was coming in off of you know he was he was in some ways coming in a little like kayn D’Or after Nick Sabin where it’s like the standard is impossibly high because the historical Norm is not you win 17 out of no 16 out of 18 games like that’s not the historical Norm but 15 out of 18 either way whatever that’s not the historical Norm but that’s what he was coming in on so you’re sort of set up where if you go three in one everyone’s like oh why’d you lose to Michigan once but you’re now at the point where if he didn’t win this one yeah when you’re at home when you have what is almost universally acknowledged as the most talented roster in America and it’s a down year for Michigan and once again you’re at home yeah and Michigan doesn’t really have anything to play for and Michigan is so incredibly limited on one side of the ball that it’s like all you have to do is score 17 points and you’re the offensive Guru and you’ve got your offensive Guru calling plays if you didn’t do it this year like when is it gonna happen exactly yeah and so now like you just wonder what kind of mood there is for moving forward uh we talked earlier in the week how when when Ohio State lost to Florida and in Glendale like boy this like a five it’s gonna take them five years to get out of this one like this is one that if you don’t make some sort of a March through the playoffs because we didn’t even really we we talked about what it would take to to lose this game for Ohio State what it would take for Michigan to win this and I think we kind of nailed it it was it was all of the things we said and so now what does it take for Ohio State to move past this and you’re gonna need to win some playoff games and and a national championship would make all of this go away but uh it still creates the pressure for for next year you know this streak is still going on and you you feel like if if they were to and this is pie in the sky at this point for Ohio State Frans you win at all that gives Ryan Day an opportunity to leave without looking like he’s leaving because it’s just I don’t want to be here anymore even though that’s why you leave yeah I I mean I I find it difficult to think that if you win the national championship you would leave off of that I mean what are you leaving for are you I mean same reason you would have left if you lost well I understand that but I mean like what job are you leaving for like if you’re if you if they lose in the semi-finals for example and the I don’t know how the Patriots are doing this year they have not been doing particularly well recently right so if the Patriots offensive coordinator position comes open do you just kind of pull a Jeff Halley and go no no it’s a head coaching job it’s a head co where’s he getting a head coaching job well and I mean there there are very um the Cowboys they haven’t fired him yet but like yeah I mean that’s that’s what you’re talking about or do you does he stick in college he can get a head coaching job at College we know that yeah I mean but where does he want to where does he want to coach like he doesn’t I’m sure he doesn’t want to leave and go coach Boston College which is where he was before where where’s where is he going USC Oklahoma I mean USC is not going anywhere at this point they can’t afford to and a lot of these schools right now can’t afford to fire a lot of these yeah a lot of these schools are not in the market like they there’s very little turnover projected for this year so I just I’ll say this I I do expect him back yeah I I think he’s back next year I think there’s probably internal conversations not that they’re again not that they’re going to fire him but just that you know is it is it better for him and his family to go do something else I don’t know what something else is but you know I mean Chip Kelly left a head coaching job for an offensive coordinator position and that was I think that was kind of this a similar situation was like it just he didn’t like some of the stuff going on there but also you know it was kind of getting a little stale and not really working so I I don’t I don’t know and I don’t know that Ryan Day knows right now yeah I I feel like um if he were to leave there would be such a great load off of them you know that uh because this is just grown and grown and kind of metastasized and become something that uh Cooper can relate to and then now now like now I can entertain that conversation because before it’s just like people jumping in the gun and then now they’re saying well we were right it’s like you know this was a game that you should not lose that you did lose and that was the John Cooper era yeah losing games that they’ve lost the last three years like you know they were favored Michigan was favored in some of those Ohio state was favored in some of those rivalry games happened this one you’re favored by almost three touchdowns this is a this is a a head scratcher and a mental game right there yeah 100% yeah this is you’re allowed to lose to very good teams you’re allowed to lose close games someone has to lose every close game Go I mean go back to the end of the Oregon game we’re having a very different conversation at the end of the Oregon game it’s loss but it’s a onepoint loss on the road against one of the best teams in the country and I was willing to overlook that completely it was to just kind of say absolutely like that’s someone had it was a great game someone had to lose that game this was just the offensive game plan was just not in the face was the offensive game plan today just curl up in a ball and don’t get hit it was it was Buster Bluth you know not you know ah what what do you do if someone wants to fight you just tuck into a ball and and well we have to prove how tough we are we have to show that we can run the ball Shon mois said after the game if you’re tough you don’t have to talk about being tough we don’t talk about toughness it’s just that’s what we do we just the culture is Smash and Tony for the whatever 20 whatever year in a row the team that ran the ball more won the game 42 carries 172 yards 4.1 yards per carry for Michigan 26 carries 77 yards three yards per carry for Ohio State we said all they have to do is they have to run for three and a half four yards of carryer and if they did they probably would have won the game they didn’t it didn’t it wouldn’t have taken very much to pick up more you know to get to the point where okay you you’ve gone from losing the winning the game there were this is one that I’m sure he go Ryan Day losses all of them pretty much all of them you can look and go boy if only this if only will Howard hadn’t slid a second ear you know a second you know had slid a second earlier or Jeremiah Smith hasn’t called for offensive pfence or if Marvin Harrison doesn’t get targeted or if Georgia gets called for Target maret and Harrison or if they are a little more aggressive on that last drive and set up a shorter field goal or if I’m trying to think other losses you know or if they execute the fake punt against Michigan in 2022 or I mean there’s just so many there’s there you you can go back after all these losses and do the whatif thing and you know there’s enough there’s more what if here but it just this is not one where you can kind of look and go well you know hey this was a talent equated game and someone had a very close game and someone had to lose this was not a talented quitting game Ohio State’s a far better team than Michigan Ohio State handed this game to Michigan in a lot of ways just by refusing to do the stuff that you have Jeremiah Smith Y how many times did Jeremiah Smith uh was targeted for uh seven passes uh five of them completed and like virtually nothing downfield was what’s what’s the longest pass they complet I mean and they did interfere with him twice in the end yes go back it right right so you’ve got so you give him seven catches seven catches for 65 yards and a touchdown if you include the and so seven catches for 65 yards that’s like what eight and uh nine no it’s nine yards per play nine nine yards per play even if uh seven we’ll say seven yards per play if you include the targets and you include the pass interferences you ran for three like I’m I’m not the smartest person in the world but on the last Drive did they throw to Jeremiah Smith at all on the last Drive I don’t remember them throw I don’t think so they thr to G Scott trayon Henderson incomp completion incompletion I think I think you have to like checking down to trayon Henderson on second down for one yard was like that that’s not like that that doesn’t solve the problem no and speaking of Anderson 10 carries 21 yards long Rush of five yards on the day and and yet they felt the need to continue to try well and quinan Judkins had the run the 17 yard run in what the third quarter and I turned to the guy next to me and I said coaching Hockey coaching youth hockey like mites like eight you kids everyone wants to try and do the wraparound goal where you’ve got the puck behind the net and you just kind of sneak it around the net and you stuff it in on the post before the goalie gets to the post it never works it never works you do it you do it you just pound the puck into the goalies pads or into the post all that kind of stuff and then it works one time and you tell the kids it doesn’t work and then it works one time and then they keep doing it and they want to keep doing it that was a 17 yard quinch sh giant like see we can run the balls like okay that was once like that may I present you a sample size of the entire rest of the game yeah and their two best runs were the the speed option and the fourth down play and we never saw the speed option again well you’re not running the ball between the tackles because go back and listen to our shows all week what did we say they weren’t gonna be able to do run the ball between tackles like what I I do not understand the game H like this was this was screamingly obvious that this was this is a one of the best defensive tackle Duos in the country and you’ve got I thought the guards and offensive line on the whole play fine it wasn’t they didn’t get whooped will Howard didn’t get sacked a million times but it was it was you know they just they like put your put your players in a position just to see if you can run the ball outside run the ball outside a little bit like if you want to run the ball by all means like you don’t have to run up the a gap every time like do something else that’s that’s perfectly fine yeah so uh Judkins had 27 yards on Two Carries the fourth down one was a a 10 yard and other than that like they didn’t he didn’t do anything uh 10 carries for basically the same 20 some yards that Henderson had outside of those two carries I’m looking at Michigan’s pass Michigan’s receiving stats yeah it’s crazy Michigan’s leading receiver was pton O who had one catch for 18 yards like Kyler Morris who had one catch for 14 yards their leading receiver in terms of catches was Marlin Klein who had three catches for 13 yards you didn’t have Colston Loveland you didn’t have will Johnson and you still this was and they lost Donovan Edwards way through the game so this was I think we could say this is I would say this this is Brian day’s first bad loss as Ohio State said coach but it’s a bad loss this is this is a loss where lose the fan base like I think um you were down on the field I was as soon as will Howard threw the incompletion I started to head up to the tunnel and all I hear is just fans in South STS throwing stuff down on on the on the the bleachers and then I get up here and some other people are com coming up here and I guess the fans were yelling at the coach’s wives and it was getting pretty nasty that way someone someone was screaming at Ross Bor Ross got it you got to make changes time for changes I heard that yeah so yeah it was it was not a happy not not even it’s like you can’t even it wasn’t a Happy fan base this was it was anger it was rage like we’re talking with somebody over here before um maybe maybe it was Dave Briggs from the blade about the the 2015 Michigan State loss like that was anger that was hurt that was disbelief this is rage anger this is just everybody seeing red well this is a team that was you know it was okay well what do you need to succeed okay you need to have a new quarterback okay done you need to have another running back okay done you need to have the most talented freshman wide receiver in the history PRS of college football done you need to have a new center okay you got that now he got hurt but you need to have uh you know you got to have uh another Corner okay they did that last year okay you need maybe the most most talented safety in the country okay got it done you got you got everything you got everything you wanted you probably should have had a kicker on your wish list but you you you need to you got everything you asked for and and and Jame Fielding say what you want he he’s a former walkon current walkon like that’s not what you should be dealing with you should you should have like this is this is like a baseball team building a bullpen like you should have you should go into camp with here are multiple good options and it’s like the the kicking options are Jaden Fielding a former walk-on uh they brought in a transfer from Kent State they brought in uh there’s another walk-on uh there I think those are the top three kickers and meanwhile Michigan goes to yeah they they go to Arkansas State and get the one of the best kickers if not the best kicker in the nation didn’t matter today I would argue yes yep sure did and and that’s not look leave JD field alone like don’t this is not on Jaden Fielding this is on Ryan day and this is on Chip Kelly period full stop that’s it Chip Kelly and Ryan Day direct your anger towards New Hampshire leave every in Ohio alone it just it’s it’s Jim nolles had a dynamite game Jim nolles just about saved their bacon he did everything he could to save their bacon and they just refuse to be saved because even if you have those throw those two field goals in there you still only scored 16 points in this game you got to do better than that yeah for sure and and this is this is a team that you know did Will Howard make a couple mistakes sure did you know but if you don’t trust will Howard to throw the ball like what what else are you going to do you very obviously could not run the ball so you you got to do something you have to do something you can’t just you they it felt like they were playing for well just wait for Michigan to make the big mistake and and then Michigan did make the big mistake they got the ball in Ohio in Michigan territory and they didn’t score any points off of it yeah first and 10th from the 16 after the uh Caleb DS interception yeah do we want to bang out these super chats okay yeah go ahead doesn’t go up y too bad okay uh Mr John send W says this is his best no press conference necessary fire fire Ryan Day right now I mean I don’t know what Ryan day’s buyout is but it’s going to be Hefty I I could it’s it’s probably off the top of my head it’s probably $60 million 40 to 60 million I mean that’s why you could you could do that but you also have $20 million worth of of payroll under the uh under the uh Whatchamacallit case that’s that’s going in this year the house settlement y so you got that coming in you are trying to support other sports you’re trying to support the you know you have to you have buildings to finance you have all I mean all this kind of stuff there is not an unlimited money tree and there is not someone with $60 million to you know just to just hand you I mean could Les Wexner theoretically write a $60 million check I mean I don’t know maybe but it just I don’t think that’s realistic and I don’t know that that’s the way this should get settled wouldn’t you rather have that 60 million go to players well go to players or go if if Ryan day does decide to go do something else like then you can bring in you know who right who are you going to bring in I mean that’s that’s another and Mike frel yeah right yeah Luke fickle has coached himself out of the conversation Mike frabel is still in the NFL and I have no indication that he’s interested in coming to Columbus like I’ve seen people talk about Dan Lanning like does Dan Lanning have any ties to Ohio does Dan lenning have any did would Dan Lanning not drive Ohio State fans extremely insane as well Dan lenning has lost three straight games to Washington we’ll see what they do against Washington later tonight but yeah Dan Dan Lanning is gonna have his own issues and Dan Ling’s got Phil Knight at Oregon like I don’t know that for a while for a while yeah but you’ve got a you’ve got fil knighted oron for a while so you know is there is there a he I don’t think he has a reason to leave he’s I think he’s gotten a lot of what he wants there look at the way they’re recruiting like they’re they’re taking Ohio State’s recruits basically yeah and they may not be done yeah you’re not getting Kirby Smart you’re not getting Steve sarkeesian you’re not getting you want Brian Kelly Brian Kelly’s available Mike norell Dan Mullen like yeah no was two lanes coach or Memphis coach willly Fritz no Willie Fritz is in Houston now um so it’s like you’re gonna have to go get somebody yeah there’s there’s not a home run hire out there and that’s that’s the thing it’s like there’s a little bit of and then what that comes with all of these conversations because it’s like you’re you know but I’m mad now like well that’s you but I’m mad now now is not a good reason to do something you say and then what and the answer is I don’t care right yeah anything anything has to be better it’s like does it because there’s a lot of ways that it’s not necessarily better because let’s reiterate this point season’s not over they are still going to be in the college football playoff we’ll see if they’re the five seed or the six seed or the seven seed or the eight seed I mean nine well bad losses don’t bad losses don’t seem to hurt as much you know you have if you have two good good wins against Penn State and Indiana I think those might kind of back stop you where unless Penn State or Indiana wins the Big 10 you’re probably ahead of both of those teams because you beat both of those teams beat Indiana by a bunch beat Penn State on the road the committee has tended to sort of treat you know your head-to-head as if there’s not a you know the Oregon loss I think the committee is basically saying almost doesn’t count as a loss so I I don’t think they’re dropping to eight or something like that but you know they they everyone’s looked at the five seed and drooling over the five seed you might have played yourself into the six seed or the seven seed now and that’s a little bit of a harder path and that’s something we have really not looked at at all we’ve just been focused on the one and the five Super Chat for Mike Fino legitimately don’t even let Ryan Day get to the podium fire him in the locker room now um Ross bork is always up here watching the the press conference and the post game so he was up here and sticking it all in didn’t seem like he was in the mood to fire anybody at this point right now you’re just too stunned to like like when you’re like that when you’re the ad one you’re stunned you’re disappointed you’re angry you’re feeling for the athletes who you’ve come to know and the rage from the fan base I don’t think is something that uh he is feeling right now uh I I would not want to look at his phone I yeah I would just yeah you’ve gota I mean he’s gonna have to be on his phone to text recruits and stuff but like take your take your wife’s phone take your son’s phone take your like just I just met like Ross bork’s phone with boosters Ross Bor I wouldn’t necessarily want his well he’s he’s got he’s got P he’s not the one who gave Ryan Day a contract extension so it’s you know I don’t this is this is not Ross bork’s situation really has become Ryan Daw says look like they left some doubts and that’s the thing they this was how they lost you know go back and watch the Friday show that Tony and I did that was like how would Michigan win the game and it was just watch us predict the future it was Ohio state can run the ball Ohio state gets a little bit of pass rush you know pass rush pressure but you know we we didn’t predict them turtling like that on offense but you you you miss a tackle here and there and that turns a short game into a long game you took one of those you turn the ball over a couple times and that’s it like you get you handed Michigan 10 points on a total of five yards of offense like that’s it that’s and the defense played fantastic all game the special teams made a couple crippling mistakes which really set the offense up for some Big B you know in in terrible field position which then set the offense up to call the really turtling play calls and then set the offense up to fail and eventually the defense if you put the defense out on the field for the entire second half eventually they get tired yeah and that’s not conditioning that’s not oh Jim NES can’t seal the deal that you said you left the offense out on the field for or the defense out on the field for way too long in the second half the the defense gave up a 15 play 77 yard uh 5 15 play 77 yard Drive 910 off the clock gave up zero points they and then they gave up immediately after that they went back out on the field a minute and 45 a minute and 35 seconds later after 15 plays in 77 yards and they give up an 11pl 57 yard Drive 528 again three points that’s it really the defense gave up three points all game the rest of it’s on the offense yeah you know how we talked before the game about for for one we did say like if Will Howard gets this win then he establishes himself and Bucky L and he’s a fan favorite he was a fan favorite and then this happened and and I’m already seeing seeing you know just the kind of feedback that you would expect yeah but this is there two interceptions in the game nobody was more than him after the game not that that U makes anybody feel better about it uh Super Chat from Mr Jonathan West save us Urban You’re our only hope you want Urban Meyer I mean I I don’t think Urban Meyer would do great in the nil era I there’s the reason Nick sa left him it’s not just because he’s getting old yeah Nick Urban Urban was kind of urban was kind of losing his magic a little bit at the end of his tenure everyone’s everyone is you know now looking back at that and all the people who then said I don’t care if you beat Michigan why are you winning the national championship right now saying well he beat Michigan like well you used to not care about that J yeah yep yep Mike Ferguson says I will take the pepper spray over having to watch that game again yeah that’s gonna be one where um does does anybody even want the rewatch show um well we have an audience of Michigan fans so oh that’s does anybody that we care about um still kid says is Ryan Day our version of James Franklin seems to play not to lose instead of playing to win Howard made mistakes but you have to allow him the chance to put the ball in the air Ryan day did screw up the clock management at the end of the game you call your timeouts before the two-minute warning that’s a two minute sorry two minute timeout sorry put a dollar in the jar you call your timeouts before the two- minute two-minute timeout not after you don’t let them run 25 seconds off the clock so he didn’t do that and that end up setting them up with um you know that that ended up you know they didn’t have a lot of time which they you know that might only have saved you but there’s also like a 10-second runoff for some reason Michigan Michigan player lost a helmet is what I was told so but but then Michigan called a timeout which then negated the 10-sec run off somehow it was they ra then they they put like 129 back on the clock and then they wound it before they would have gotten the ball back with like you know 55 seconds not that it matters but then they ended up losing like five 10 10 seconds in there it was just bizarre I couldn’t hear the the refs quite well enough U Mike Ferguson says Legend has it OSU is still trying to run it inside that is a that’s that’s that’s not a legend that’s a Horror Story That’s one that you don’t tell the children at night they’ll have nightmares there’s gonna be some nightmares after this one and it sounded like the house was saying get out at the end of the game get outside get outside that’s what it was trying to say and it’s like no no no no we’re going to go check the basement yeah and they found out that there is an Axe Murderer down there yeah two of them yeah I see people in the comments saying that Ohio State’s just a regular program I Ohio State’s still the most talented roster potentially in the country if not the most talented one of the most talented and you’re still in position to potentially win the national championship like yeah think about how mad you were after the 2022 Michigan loss and then if you know there’s a couple ifs at the end of the 2022 Peach Bowl where if Marvin Harrison doesn’t get hurt if Georgia gets called for targeting on that play if Ryan day is a little more aggressive to set up a shorter field goal Ohio State potentially or likely wins that game and then you’re playing TCU for the national championship and I don’t know if it was 65 you know it be 657 but even if it’s 3117 congratulations you’ve won a national championship and the narrative around you isn’t completely different now some some of that some of the stuff in that game was a lot of the stuff that we saw today it’s it’s it gets you get a little pucker you get a little pucker in these games from Ryan day and it gets you know it’s really easy to be aggressive and going for it against Western Michigan and you know Northwestern and ruter and whoever else and then you you know you’re you’re running a draw play to set up your field goal kicker who’s already missed one kick like I don’t know that that’s the move there at some point we can maybe maybe not today but we will eventually talk about so who is coming to Columbus in three weeks because Tennessee Georgia you know some of these programs that we talk about wouldn’t it be great to see and then how do you think those programs are feeling about uh we gota we gotta play Ohio State so I think I think there’s still some concern from the rest of the Nation about Ohio State the rest of the nation hasn’t packed in on Ohio State um but again you you got to wake up you got to snap out of it mhm because if you can lose to Michigan and as as we said before like if you can be down be in a one- score game against Nebraska here you can lose to Michigan now we know for sure they can lose to Michigan and if you can lose to Michigan you can lose to anybody that has a good defense and enough of a running game yeah to to do some damage and the like the fact that there’s no passing game and you still you know 77 yards rushing in the fourth quarter you just wore down because your offense did nothing for for you I not going to get harp on the defense they gave up 13 points and really one one scoring drive that was a legitimate Drive the the defense is 0% responsible for that game I mean zero percent responsible they the defense played great Jack Sawyer played great he he was all over the place I you I’m looking his stats don’t reflect I think what I saw on the field he was just constantly in there Caleb DS had that fourth down stop I mean Caleb DS played game of his life Cody Simon nine tackles lean Ransom nine tackles I mean they were like arll ree seven tackles it was such a such an incredible performance by the defense and they get they did all the stuff that no one said they could do they forced CS in the second half they got two turnovers in the second half they they play I mean they got put in an awful awful spot repeatedly you said earlier three yard drive and a two- yard drive and that was and that was five yards of offense for Michigan and they got 10 points out of it in a game where they scored 13 points y I mean zero% of that game is on the uh on the Ohio State Defense I I don’t think it’s a 100% on Ryan day and Chip Kelly but whatever whatever percentage it is you know it’s uh you know it’ll it’ll graduate you from high school whatever percentage that was and we got a question here about Jaden fielding and I’m trying to find yeah Mike wants to know how many field Go’s Fielding now missed inside of the 40 yeah he’s missed he’s missed a few eight of 10 you said coming into the game I think yeah he’s he’s been you know you you sort of assume that a kicker at Ohio State’s going to be more or less automatic because over the years it’s kind of been that way and you know Noah Ruggles everyone remembers him now for the Georgia kick but no rles was a great kick Ohio State and made some really clutch field goals over you know over his career and Fielding has just been it’s just been like a step below that he hasn’t been terrible this is you know there was who was it there was a team I oh was was it Indiana it was Indiana that was like four for nine on field goals in the in the season something like that and if you’re four for nine in field goals you’re you’re terrible that’s that’s terrible if you’re eight for 10 right eight for eight for nine according to this okay eight for nine and then you know one for three today so n for 12 75% of field goals isn’t terrible and he missed one in the yeah missed one in the 40s and then I don’t know what the misses were today again like I part of you know Jaden Fielding is not a he missed from 38 and 34 okay 38 and 34 that was and one of those was not a good Miss yeah no you should you should make those those are those are kicks that you should make but you know once you watch him miss one and you know he missed one against Michigan last year and that was a long one against Michigan last year with but Ryan Day settled for a long field goal right before the half against Michigan and they missed the field goal and like you have to kind of recognize like at some point some learning must occur like you have the kicker you have you cannot pick someone up on the waiver wire so you have the kicker you have so you probably shouldn’t run a draw and set up on on Third and 10 you probably shouldn’t run a draw to set up a guy who’s already missed a 30 something yard field goal to kick another 30 something yard field goal yeah the Super Chat for Fort Wayne buck a little levity Caleb DS finally got that interception Tony just as Tom boldly predicted Tony sent me a text it was supportive yeah it was it was um um well I’ll tell you what I I’m going to tell this in a little bit of a parable Tony um over in the Michigan press conference they were talking about um I don’t remember what the acronym was it was uh it was basically forget it and move on is how Chiron Moore described it was like Fimo or something like that forget it move on and I think it was Davis Warren who said uh it’s you know eff in move on anyway so um why did I think about that when I thought about the text you sent me I don’t know um I did I did like that that shiron Moore gave you the PG version and then I was like well is that what is that what it really stands for because I don’t think it really so I threw a I threw a quote from will Howard up on Twitter and said we’re going to regroup and go into in the playoffs and make a run and before all of this he was talking about we don’t care about the playoffs we’re not thinking about it right now but the mentality is you’re going to go in playoffs and make a run and that was quote tweeted with um they’re gonna win to Natty and everyone will hate every minute of it I mean this is still a team that can win the national championship because let me tell you you look around the country and which which teams are absolutely Flawless yeah I mean Oregon’s Oregon hasn’t lost but Oregon looked like CP against Wisconsin a couple weeks ago Georgia went to what eight overtimes against Georgia Tech last night I mean there’s Texas has not beaten anyone we’ll see what Texas looks like against Texas A&M on Saturday night but so far they don’t have any you know great amazing wins so you look at the rest of the nation it’s like well Ohio State’s not going to win a National Championship obviously it’s like okay well who is it’s like well I mean Oregon’s probably the favorite at this point but is Oregon unbeaten I don’t think organ’s unbeatable Super Chat from Benjamin V Hammer still coming Ohio State loses again because of stallions y’all are ridiculous but enjoy the $10 because you used to be fair good sports before Michigan turned the Rivalry around uh did has anyone said Conor stallion’s name on this show I just said it right there okay there so you tricked me um I I does does anyone think I saw someone on Twitter saying oh you’re just going to be making excuses for like is anyone making excuses we picked Michigan last year yeah we picked Michigan to we picked Michigan to win the game that they won last year this year I did not expect Ryan day and Chim Kelly to poop down their legs but they did yeah no um wingman Ted said did Chip kill the Bison package or whatever they called Curry as a fullback to help win the running game felt like they only ran into a wall on repeat we haven’t really seen that this year they’ve run like Patrick gerd as a fullback there they they’ve run the formation there and some things like that but they haven’t really used the extra lineman because they’ve got enough tight ends now to do it I think maybe that’s one of the reasons they’ve been short on tight ends in the past where you’re still trying to develop G Scott or Sam Hart or Joe Royer like you’ve got all these guys that came in as wide receivers so it’s not really what they do but now you’ve got a bunch of tight ends that you can use and um you know they’re they’re doing it in different ways not not successful half time score at in happppy Valley Penn State 31 Maryland 7 so uh I’m going to say you can go ahead and cancel the hotel reservation for Indianapolis for next week so and we look and and and and so now James James Franklin has an opportunity to go in and hey James Franklin has an opportunity to go in and win a big 10 championship against the number one team in the country and potentially be the number one team in the country and all it took was Ohio State losing their game and Penn State just handling their business it’s it’s I mean and I don’t think they’ll get there I think they’re probably going to lose to Oregon but but it’s interesting to me leaving that Penn State game walking out with the fan base walking out with the Penn State fans in that game to get to the postgame uh media press conference and just walking next to a guy just like you and he was just completely devastated and I’m like hey you still got the playoffs he’s like I don’t care yeah and now I was like I wonder what he’s what he’s saying right now so that’s that’s the thing Time Heals all wounds unless you lose to Michigan well and you know I I have a feeling that it’s not going to be 73,000 people inside the Horseshoe on December 21st or whatever when they’re playing do you think it will be 105,000 it was 10605 it was 105 plus against Indiana do you think it’s a sellout type of it should be I mean you’re going to be seeing a pretty good opponent as well you’re going to be seeing a pretty good opponent probably an opponent you haven’t seen before let’s I mean let’s just look and we obviously boy is the college football playoff selection show going to be or I mean the the uh show on Tuesday night gonna be fascinating this week or you’re probably gonna with like an SMU be like yeah I don’t I don’t think could get a well Clemson lost to South Carolina so you could get a South Carolina you could get to South Carolina you could get an Miss I mean you could get an Alabama I mean telling me that Alabama coming up to Columbus in December you’re going to be like no no I’m mad like the people who are saying that right now are the same people who are saying to us that well if the players get paid I’m not going to watch college football anymore guess what it’s been an awesome college football season so you you know it’s if Alabama is coming to Columbus in December and you want to stomp your feet and be mad and not come to the game like that’s fine but it’s going to be that’s G to be a heck of a scene that’s gonna be a heck of a game and you know it’s again Ohio state has the opportunity to win the national championship this year and if they do you’re not you know you’re mad now you think you’re never going to forgive Ryan day for this if they win the national championship guess what you’re not gonna be saying yes but they lost to Michigan and I’m still mad yeah the 2022 season I I think we all would agree the Michigan loss wouldn’t have mattered at all now when you tally them all up it’s like well you still haven’t done this but it’s like yeah here’s my national championship ring I can’t hear you over the bling but there’s no bling right now so it’s uh very loud on on the the Michigan front well and Ohio State lost to a six win team in 2014 I mean at home so you know it’s that was earlier in the season obviously but this is this is the new reality of college football and aren’t you aren’t you going to be happy in you know a few a few days when JT Tu mow last year was it last year or two years ago after the Michigan loss it must been two years ago you know they they got a couple days after the Michigan loss in 2022 and were you know mad and upset and everyone was up you know everyone was angry and then JT who M got up and talked to the team about like hey you still have the opportunity to win the national championship if some stuff Falls right you don’t even need anything to fall right you still have the opportunity to win the national championship Do not drop into 15 in the college football rankings they’re going to be four five I mean you’re G in in the rankings which then which then moves you into probably like the sixish seed something like that it’s you know if the ultimate goal is to win the national championship that is still ahead of you if they come out and they lose on December 21st like we’re having a different conversation about everything but right now that’s still that’s still ahead of you uh Jordan kler Super Chat I’m like crazy to be tired of the history book stuff wi by rushing the ball really how’d that work for you when it was obvious you could throw over them come comes before the fall but where does stubbornness take you uh takes you to Columbus Ohio on December 20th or December 21st you know it’s interesting and I’ve been saying it’s kind of like um you know self-fulfilling prophecy reminds me of a story my aunt once told me about how um she had a family friend this family friend went to a psychic one time and the psychic told him didn’t see that coming NOP the psychic told him you’re gonna die from a fall and the dude was sleeping on his on in a in a chair on his porch on the swing on his porch and he fell out and he had a heart attack because he scared himself and died and now that’s just you know some old old antt tail type of thing but this is you know hey if you don’t run the ball you can’t possibly win and I I can I can assure you you can win the game by not running as well as the other team especially if you’re limiting the other team it’s it’s that fourth quarter when you could do nothing and Michigan was able to just continue to get three 3 329 and and so I I just the it is it is a very stubborn thing that he kept talking about the team that runs the ball wins the game yes we know that but some of that is also leading yeah right running the clock out there’s a there’s a correlation causation thing there and if you’re running the ball you’re probably even or ahead Michigan was running the ball a bunch because they were trying to shorten the game and Ohio state was running the ball because it felt like they were trying to prove a point and me okay you you have it was the exact opposite of the 2020 Big 10 championship game because do you remember sitting in the in the we wereing the stands or something right no I was I was in Stand shooting photos you were probably up in the Press Box but I I remember sitting there I if you go back and search I have a tweet and it’s Ryan day and Kevin Wilson are the two last people in this building to realize that they need to just give the ball the C Trey Surman who’s in the process of having one of the greatest games in in Ohio State history ended up breaking this single game rushing record and Justin Fields has a bad thumb and they’re like no no no no we’re gonna throw it it’s like no the the guy who keeps running for 17 yards a carry just do that until they stop it and M Ohio state with the pass game it was like well you got to run the ball on first down because you got to establish them okay then they get stopped so now it’s second and nine like well boy you got to run let’s try one more okay now it’s third and six okay well guess what now they know you have to throw you’re putting yourself in obvious situations I don’t know what what the Run pass mix on first downs was before the like in the first three quarters but it feels like it was probably like 7030 and if you throwing the ball for eight yards a play seven yards a play and you’re running it for three yards a play like this is this is a math problem like just keep keep throwing because it wasn’t it wasn’t even like Michigan had incred coverage all the time there was Carell T dropped one dropped an open one on the second and five at one point and and you had you know some some will Howard had some bad throws will Howard sailed some balls out of out of bounds and and didn’t give receivers a chance to a chance to catch it you do Wonder was there any indication that you know was he banged up he left the game with a shoulder it looked on the scoreboard video like it was a it was a head injury he said it was a head injury it was a head injury okay well I I had there was there was a lot of no it was shoulder to- shoulder and it’s like how did he get a head injury if it was shoulder to shoulder so and and just looking real quick third third quarter they they ran on first down every time or at least to start the drives um but they you they they threw some and will Howard ran on one of those but yeah he said I felt good enough to come back in I was watching him come out of the tent they would not give him his helmet he was asking for the helmet he’s like they wouldn’t give it he ran up and down the sideline to show he’s okay like give me the helmet they wouldn’t and then they finally did and then he went back into the game yeah you you wonder what how close to 100% was he was he 100% was he not 100% I mean it it felt like they didn’t trust him yeah and if you don’t trust him then you’re playing left-handed and it’s like how how big is Will Howard at I’m just gonna pick a number here is Will Howard at 80% still better than Devin Brown at 100% maybe I don’t know it certainly seems like they feel like that based on what they did you didn’t put Devon Brown back in there it just I I struggle to think that if you don’t trust your quarterback and you’re not able to run the ball like you’ve gotta you’ve got to have someone that you can trust that you can put in there R day is the quarterback Guru certainly you must have someone on your team that you trust to throw the ball to this you know this incredible lineup of wide receivers but then they still march down the field in a two-minute drill after that in the second quarter they yes they did and then they didn’t go back to it which is bizarre are we caught up on super chats okay okay um do we have do we have the um the video of the Michigan post game is that in there and ready to go I sent it to you and our friend in Florida okay yes yes is it is it ready to punch up yeah okay so here’s a little bit from the Michigan post game uh the two guys up there are mcari pagee the defensive back and Davis Warren the quarterback the first question uh is to Davis Warren and it was just sort of about Michigan’s identity and the whole smash thing and just what I want you to listen for really this is It’s a couple minutes the last quote was really kind of about the flag planning thing and that was it is about as big of a dagger as you can possibly deliver I think you know we we we talk about it you know we we talk about what type of team we want to be what type of team we want to be known as and you know Coach Moore talks about it that smash mentality and that’s discipline and tough and doing your job not doing too much not trying to do any sorry anything outside of of what you know how to do and just um Opera to the best of your ability and you know I’m just really proud of this whole group I think they did that today they showed toughness um you know all everyone that was out there showed toughness and and that’s what these games came down to and showed in the final score especially on defense KN around quarter and also in the running game you feel uh I think I think as a defense as a team honestly we are tougher than him I feel like yeah that’s how I feel yeah gent back right was there a a certain just kind of moment G you guys felt that confidence that you came in playing was overing maybe osu’s ability play just as far as your talent level was concerned I mean I thought on that offensive Drive in the first half when we were going into the wind um and we drove right down the field and like we started at our own you know within our own 10 yard line and went down there and um you know put ourselves in a good spot and I think you know just just with that that gave us a lot of confidence picked up some third Downs on that drive and and really got things moving and um I think that was you know I can’t speak for the defense but I think that was big for the offense um to get get some get some Stu rolling I think um before the game it kind of like gave us that like we knew like they really didn’t want to they not did it they probably didn’t want to but they probably like they tried to look tough they tried to like stare Us St us down but we knew in our head like they really didn’t want to come out here and play us light what the game today um what what do you think about the concept of losing [Music] gracefully I mean you know I think you you we talked about it all week being disciplined and letting our play on the field do the talking you know through the echo of the whistle um I think you know we had that one you know on Sports like offsetting one which you know those those are going to happen in games like this but I think as a unit as a team we did a great job of that um you know what happened at the end I I can’t speak for that but um you know we’re we’re we’re going to win in your house and we’re going to plant the flag like should have you know you should have done something about it you know we’re going to win in your house and we’re going to plant the flag I mean they checked they checked both of those boxes one thing that I heard that I had not thought about but someone asked shiron Moore a question about uh the fact that Ryan day since Ryan day’s hang 100 comments W did has played Michigan four times they are 0 and four and they have yet to Total 100 points in those four games well um that’s yeah so Michigan was aware of those comments uh it turns out it turns out that Michigan was in fact aware of those comments yeah yeah I bet that was a um there’s some a joyful press conference over there I will just say I to just say that yeah and I’m a little I I didn’t realize that Ohio State brought three play three guys out Ryan day will Howard and Cody Simon and that’s it like Chip Kelly’s getting paid a bunch of money Chip Kelly did not have a very good day it would be real good to hear from J Kelly uh on on uh what you know what what was the game plan exactly and I mean Ryan day during the week looked confident comfortable it was like it was like Ryan day was like you much like before Indiana it was like he knew something that other people didn’t know and I like well I mean they they must feel real good about the game plan they were they were counting their gold pants before they were forged well and and like what was what was the game plan that you felt so great about even in here he said we we still we felt good about the the plan it just wasn’t well executed and that’s not blaming the players or the whatever I guess it’s just like what what who is when you’re saying it wasn’t well executed who are you blaming yeah and I don’t know if that was also the play calling but and I don’t want to I don’t know the exact statement of what he said but you kind of Stand By The the plan because that’s you felt it’s gonna work and then they generally do well in the the second half adjustments but there were there were yeah the getting away from the passing game you could see that there was some concern from Ohio State and continuing to throw the ball they weren’t getting any depth they weren’t going down field there’s nothing there and so it’s just interesting where it’s like well they’re playing soft so you either have to take the underneath stuff or run it and it’s like if they are playing soft why can’t you run it yeah you know like yeah there there were times where it was a five or six-man box and they still were only getting gonna get five yards in there well and and we talked all the about they ran the speed option and the speed option was one of the best games of the game and then they didn’t go back to him it’s like well you don’t have to run the ball between tackles if you can’t run the ball between tackles do something else like there’s lots of other stuff you can do that was the uh third longest gain of the game 17 yards and I I look I look at this and it’s after the interception that will Howard through the second one the next next possession the defense gets the ball right back gets the ball right back Caleb Downs interception and uh they go four plays zero yards miss a field goal yeah and then the next Drive the defense bends Jack Sawyer makes an incredible play that was like hey this is the play that Jack Sawyer came back to make he makes the play this is going to be the play that everyone remembers that Jack Sawyer saved the Michigan game and then they go three plays nine yards on Punt and it’s like at some point and and then the final drive four plays one yard Downs that’s it like you you had two turnovers that you got handed to you one in inside the Red Zone you get the ball handed to you and you had 11 plays for 10 yards and zero points they did kind of mention like you know we thought about going forward on the fourth and one from their own 21 it’s like you know you you don’t get it there and clearly you set Michigan up but also I think in the back of his mind he’s thinking we would still have to go 79 yards you know to score and I don’t know that they had much confidence they were gonna be able to do that so it’s like you give the ball back to Michigan hoping that they will give it back to you in a better position yeah and and they did the defense did the defense did get the ball back from Michigan and it just but the offense just never did anything with it that’s yeah I think it this you know sometimes we have these games where it’s oh boy where did things go wrong what you know who who’s to point like this is one where it’s just like you know this is this is not you do not need to be a super football scheme Guru to know where things went wrong for Ohio State today no not at all are we uh what else are we good are we Mike Ferguson says for a time I thought oh you had rehired timb well hey come on now give that money back to Mike don’t that’s we don’t need to go there that’s a boy um yeah this is a regression for will Howard that’s that’s for sure and if you want to chalk that up to getting banged up you can some of that play came before then there’s also good play after it this is just not this was his his worst game as a buckeye and it’s terrible time for him to have that game yep yep so all right all set I think we’re good all right if you have
