College Park Ohio State coming off of a really tough loss at home to pit in their last outing uh losing that game at the buzzer Maryland has won four straight games but has not played a team to the level of Marquette their last loss back on November 15th they’re looking to make a statement in this game against Ohio State just big picture Joe as we’re looking at this what what’s the main thing you’re looking for in this game I think it’s so one thing for each side Maryland is can you do it against good teams they have like dominated bad teams and I I am in the belief that there is something to that right where you’re not just squeaking by against Bad teams but you’re absolutely dominating them yeah but at the same time at some point you gotta you gotta beat a good team they beat Villanova by one I watched that game Eric Dixon was go like it might have been the best game of his career I don’t I’m I’m not sure he had 38 so yeah you get a little bit of a pass from that of winning by one just based on that specifically but yeah like besides that it’s they’re 356 and noncon trink schedule like you got to do it against somebody good against Ohio for Ohio State we’re going to work under the assumption no Aaron Bradshaw for the foreseeable future this is their first test of like Maryland’s going to play two bigs and Ohio State’s going to play Stewart at the five and then they’re going to rotate mhi and Royal at the four and the five um Can can those lineups match up and and hold up with the size is that the biggest key for Maryland in your mind when it comes to winning this game and pulling this quote unquote upset as the lower ranked team get to in a second gambling lines are are favoring Maryland in this but is that the biggest key in your mind yeah it it has to be like if Queen really both Queen and Reese both have to I think be very very good um especially Queen like Reese will get the Stewart matchup and so it’s not like he has a immense size Advantage there naturally Stuart is somebody that fils a lot though so he could get into foul trouble but they’re goingon to have to put royal Andor mfei on Queen and that’s like unless Ohio State sends doubles I I if they stay single coverage that should be a game that Queen gets going and if he doesn’t then it feels like issues for Maryland and sometimes you see teams around the country when they have a dominant big man like that against a smaller team go away from them for some reason because you got to get other guys involved Maryland hasn’t done that this year like when they’ve needed Derek Queen and they’ve had a mismatch down low they’ve thrown him the ball over and over and over and over and over again until the other team makes them stop it so I I expect Marilyn and Kevin Willard to take full advantage of that I’m also interested to see too this be the fifth game since Marilyn put Rodney rice in the starting lineup made that swap put him in there I think they’ve been a little bit more explosive offensively with him in the lineup um playing a a bigger role Villanova game was iffy but you Eric Dixon went off in that game as we talked about so excited to see what that looks like for them on the other end Ohio State mentioned no Bradshaw they’re gonna play smaller coming off that that tough loss what has happen for for the Buckeyes to go on the road and pick up the win they got to shoot the ball well still and they’ve been I was somebody that was very worried about their shooting coming into the season and basically what I said coming in was it feels like everybody has to shoot at their ceiling for this to work Thoren Johnson parish and Moy are shooting at their ceiling and like we are seven games in I still at some point it’s it has to regress in my head a little bit but like it’s only four guys taking shots but they I mean parish is 42% me is 42% Bruce is 54 and Mo’s 57% like it’s not bad if they’re yeah if they’re just going to keep doing that then at some point I just got to be like all right that’s just that’s just the way the world works but have to shoot the ball well that it feels like priority number one it’s going to what keeps them in the game second thing is kind of going back to that how do they stop the big man is is they got a rebound well I think Pitts pit had 16 offensive rebounds in that overtime game um that that was a game Ohio State should have won straight up file three-point shooter late they let up some offensive rebounds um Miss some free throws like they just it felt like they didn’t execute on the little things and that’s going to be really important Bruce Thorne’s going to be the best point guard in this game he’s one of the best in the conference um you have obviously we just talked about a great shooting but can the defense hold up enough where this offense can just kind of carry them to the win defense not make just I don’t think the defense has to be perfect but it just it can’t make that many mistakes as it did at Pittsburgh yeah and they weren’t Ohio state was not a great rebounding team even with Bradshaw they were fine but it’s not like they were dominant in that area foul a lot too which you have to match they’re going to continue to do when they’re they’re overmatched by Queen yeah to your point they’re second nationally in three-point shooting percentage right and that that’s not something we expected coming in I almost think it’s kind of the reverse of Michigan State last season with how poorly Michigan State shot the ball beginning of last year we were all talking about it potentially being a major major problem for the Spartans after they finished like top three the year before lo and behold just can say finished top 50 three-point shooting last season eventually came around kind of wonder when the other shoe was going to drop with this Ohio State team if there the shots aren’t going to stop stop aren’t going to fall mentioned kind of the the upset essentially get the win I’m going to go Maryland I think I I’m I’m just I’m very worried about Ohio State’s ability to stop Queen and Reese um now Maryland could Maryland shot the ball better this year it’s not like Elite they’re right a little bit above D1 average which is honestly kind of all they need to be if this is one of those games where they just shoot super poorly then things could go bad and Ohio State gets hot um but I I’ve really liked the rice Edition in the starting lineup gesp has started to really I think come into his own these past couple games I guess it’s tough with Maryland because it’s like they play Bad teams and so it’s like how much are they really showing in that but I’m going to lean Maryland I I think Queen and Reese have big games and even if Ohio State shoots well I just don’t think it’s quite enough to overcome I’m taking the TPS in this one I just I think being at home I love the addition of Ray and they haven’t played anybody right like since they really put him in there other than Villanova but they went from scoring 79 86 and 84 against Bad teams without him in the starting lineup to scoring 10891 and 96 against Bad teams and again they are bad teams but I think there is something to that having Queen in the middle I think is a big big difference it’s different when teams don’t use him as much as Marland is going to or I expect Maryland to Kevin Willard does not not want to over complicate things he’s it’s just been a track something he’s done throughout his his entire career I think Marilyn wins I think Marilyn wins this game by about eight not super comfortable could be a little bit of back and forth but some free throws at the end may make it a little bit more um make the final score not look like the game was as close as it was I’m expecting a back and forth game a fun game maybe a sloppy game at times but a fun game no matter what I’m with you there yeah no matter what happens he’ll be back the super meia
