hello everybody today we are opening up a rack pack of 1962 Topps baseball cards the 62 set it is a masterpiece it has charm it has Nostalgia has wood grain it has everything uh that a 1960s set should have it is America’s pastime it has that feel as if it could have been carved out of a bat from Hank Aaron himself we got a bunch of Hall of Famers on the front of this this rack pack we got Warren spawn we got Jim cat we got da drale all Hall of Famers this is a 598 card set there’s a few Rarities in this set it’s a challenge for collectors to collect the entire set because of uh the Rarity of those also the wood grain borders although iconic they’re unforgiving to dings and blemishes and all that sort of stuff so collectors finding a mint condition card is really hard uh to find so this is exciting all of these cards are in really good condition it’s a set that has a lot of Legends in it the three that we see right here all in the Hall of Fame also got Willie Mays Mickey Manel Roberto Clemente also has rookie cards for Gaylord Perry Lou Brock and they would uh also go on to be in the Hall of Fame much like the three cards that we see on top here we sort of have in 1987 and I’ll show this they did the wood wood grain again it’s supposed to sort of copy the wood grain of a bat I think they pulled it off better in 62 than they did in ’87 I think it’s more evident that the 62 is paneling of a bat and 87 kind of looks like the paneling on your mom’s minivan now we don’t just have base cards in this set we have we have a Green Tinted Bape Ruth subset and then also the sporting news subset here that had a lot of the allstars of the day and each card has a story on it and we’re going to tell a story after we open up this pack we’re going to tell the story of Warren spawn who is right there on this 1962 sporting news we’re not going to make you wait any longer let’s get into it [Music] all right 19 6 62 here’s what we’re going to do we’re going to take this going to put that down we’re going to take our xacto knife courtesy of courtesy of uh uh Gregory and to cut down like that that works awesome going to cut down like that we got three Hall of Famers here Jim cat Warren spawn Dawn Dale each one of those cards are fantastic let’s see if we did enough cutting here to get in and we did we did 1962 tops let’s see what we have in here we got Dawn Dale Hall of Famer great condition look at that look at that nice Dawn Dale put him right up front we got Jackson Dell Crandell yes a John Olo hat art Fowler and then Wes cumington just give you a little that’s some bright colors there on West look at that look at that Wes that’s the backs led the league in hitting fantastic all right we got Jim cat this next one another Hall of Famer let’s see what we have with Mr Cat here we need to do just a little bit more trimming down there we go we got it trimmed down there we got Jim cat all right let’s see what else we got we got got him in that sleeve there we got Jim cat Hall of Famer like we’ve said Jim cat and again we’ll say it again dick Stewart we’ll get this piece of plastic cardboard out of the way dick Stewart oh nice one of the tops All-Star Rookies I used to collect just the top the Vintage tops Allstar rookies as many as I could get this is this is awesome Lee Thomas love seeing the old stadiums oh that’s a nice card that is a nice card Frank Howard and we got Wally post I’ll put these guys down just like that I want to look at the back of this Jim cat nice nice nice that’s an early gym cat all right then we got the last one last take this don’t cut yourself I have I have let’s get this Warren spawn out of its plastic prison there we go Warren spawn is out you’ll see these up for sale on whatnot Warren spawn left-handed pitcher winningest pitcher of all time wi his left-hand pitcher we’ll take a deep dive into that card in a second that is an awesome card great condition Hank foils Al shroll what a wholesome lad we got Dallas Green and we end with Mac Jones that was an awesome pack of 1962 tops what a Fant we got three Hall of Famers Jim cat Don Dale Warren spawn let’s just take a deep dive into this this Warren spawn card here we’re going to talk a little bit about Warren spawn here watch this ready so Warren spawn card number 399 Sporting News card 1962 top set and it’s just it’s a shrine to Excellence is what it is spawn is the winningest left-handed pitcher in Major League history and he’s on this card it’s an All-Star subset we have you can see you know this is what Warren spans looks like we also have Don Dr stes Sporting News card back there and the card is clean and bold it has the vertical layout instead of a you know horizontal of a lot of other cards and um the the top here it’s just just adds as a adds a piece of classic touch and we got the Simplicity of the design it attracts all the attention to spawn it’s his face who calm to meter has a steady gaze and at 41 during the 61 season he wasn’t just surviving he was dominating and the car and this card serves as a tribute to Spa’s amazing career by the time the card was issued spawn had already racked up 132 win Seasons uh a feat that is unmatched in Modern Baseball in 61 he won 21 games with a 3.02 ER even in his early 40s he was out pitching a lot of the people in their 20s in the leagues and the Braves have moved from Milwaukee to Atlanta but span’s Legacy was firmly rooted on the mound from a collector’s perspective the card is a double-edged sword it’s a stunning piece of baseball history but it can its value can vary very much on the condition these wood grain borders that we mentioned early in the video highlight any chipping any wear and high grades of this card are very uncommon to come across so this is a fantastic example of this card a PSA 9 or higher can can get a really he Hefty price tag but even the lower grade copies are cherished for the historical significance and the 62 Top Sporting News Warren spawn captures the essence of this place who represented baseball’s transition from the old guard to the Modern Age this is when that transition happened through the’ 60s and 70s and it reminds us of the perseverance of artistry of pitching so if you’re a Braves fan a spawn fan or if you just love vintage baseball cards this Warren spawn 1962 tops is a must have for any
