[Music] so I wanted to respond to an article and I think it’s fair to say that the fact that we are even bringing up this particular article that talks about this particular piece of content is kind of irresponsible and the reason I say that is because I think a lot of the contents of the article are a little bit outdated but the article itself is from yesterday so it is kind of weird I don’t know know you can go out there and let me know in the comments section what you think about this but today what I wanted to do was dive into a post made on canu daily.com by Cooper Goden this was written and published yesterday on December 25th Patrick Alvine made the right decision signing Jake de Brusque after missing out on Jake ginel and I wanted to respond to that idea because of course that’s a pretty big claim here oh yeah the Canucks missed out on signing one top tier free agenty Superstar and they got another guy instead this was a big win was it really let’s go out there and read the article it’s been a solid season for Vancouver conects forward Jake debras and he’s been proving that Alvine made the right decision in signing him back on July 1st now honestly I’m going to pause you right there in my subjective opinion obviously I’m just one guy who watches the Canucks for a living pretty much I honestly think that Jake debrus hasn’t necessarily been the best but he’s been okay he is reasonably good but maybe not as good as maybe some thought he would be anyways quick aside aside let’s go out there and continue with the piece it was a big summer for Vancouver kxg and Patrick Alvine which included the signing of former bees forward Jake debrusk to a 7-year contract worth 52 mil as is the case every year teams will try and Target certain players But ultimately missed out on either trading for or signing them as ufas and in 2024 there was one name that Conns were to quite a bit Jake gensel this article then Chronicles everything that happened with Jake EEG how he was a Pittsburgh Penguin how the Canucks were trying to trade for him how he didn’t get traded to Vancouver he got sent over to Carolina instead and then how Vancouver might have been in the mix of signing this guy in free agency only for gensel to end up in Tampa Bay the reason this article was even posted is because of a social media post made by Noah Strang of daily h the Vancouver kcks are probably smiling quite a bit thanks to the production from De brasque the article quotes a post made on Twitter by Noah Strang that Canucks quote unquote missed out on the big fish Jake gensel last summer but are getting nearly identical production from a younger cheaper de Brusque so far when this post was made on December 3rd 2024 Jake debrusk had 19 points in 23 games played Jake gensel on the other hand had 22 points and 23 sure the production is fairly similar the position also kind of similar Jake gensel listed as a center on nhl.com honestly I don’t think of him as a center he’s playing on the first line with point and kucherov as the left wing too so yeah maybe not the best descriptor there nhl.com but back on December 3rd the production separating ginel and de Brusque was only am measly three points which made it reasonable to say that yeah this guy is doing pretty all right in Jake debrus he’s cheaper he’s younger he’s producing just a tad underneath and so did Patrick Aline go out there and have himself a dub the top reply actually interestingly enough to this Noah Strang tweet is from MD KN zero de Brusque just needs to stay consistent before we can make a declaration like this but I’m so happy and consistency is the name of the game because unfortunately after this post was made Jake debrusk ended up going on a little bit of a cold streak he continued producing points up until the middle of December but from December 14th onwards the guy kind of stopped scoring for a little bit there were two more points that he had Ur in the previous two games played for Vancouver but right now Jake debrus has 25 points in 34 games played on Pace for 60 points which actually would be a career high on Pace for a career high in goals and 36 on Pace for what would be his second most productive assist season with 24 but if you go over to to Tampa Bay and to take a look at what Jake gensel is doing well where Jake debrusk ended up stopping his point producing for a good chunk in December Jake gensel just Amplified it take a look at this Jake gensel in his last 10 games has 14 freaking points he’s got multiple two-point games a three-point game and a whole bunch of other games where he’s only got one he has been dominant and he’s at 35 points in 32 games right now gensel is on Pace for 90 points in 82 and I get it you could easily say hey it’s not fair to compare gensel and de bras de brosque on Pace for 60 points gensel on Pace for 90 they’re not making the same amount of money they’re not in the same timeline they’re not in similar boats Jake gensel is playing with arguably the best playmaker in the entire gosh darn league in Nikita kucherov and he’s got Braden Point as his Center you’ve got so many top tier producers on Tampa Bay doing their thing meanwhile Jake debrusk is playing with Alias Pon who is usually pretty good but admittedly py has not been himself this season so we could go out there and conclude that selection bias is very real and this is one of these things where you think about okay if you had swapped the positions if you assume Jake gensel in Vancouver Jake de Brusque in Tampa Bay how would their numbers Faire I would assume that if Jake debrus was in Tampa Bay playing alongside a point and kucherov he’d probably have a lot more points than what he’s got right now in Vancouver and vice versa for gensel I do think however it is fair to say say that if you had swapped de Brusque for gensel let’s say you put gensel with Pon and Garland or whomever else I do think that gensel maybe produces more than de Brusque does at least for the Vancouver Canucks right now could gensel be the second most productive team on the Vancouver Canucks in 2425 had he been signed instead of Jake de Brusque it’s very well possible gensel is somebody that I think can drive his own line de brus I’m not necessarily too sure if he has that in him he does a lot of good things yes he’s able to get to the front of the net he’s able to get the rebounds the pokes the tippins but a lot of these plays need to be set up by other guys Jake de brus goals are rarely Snipes on the rush he can score like that but it’s not his Forte at least so far in Vancouver that’s not to discredit the way that he produces it’s just different from what Jake gensel is able to do I think Jake gensel is a lot more of an offensive Catalyst from his own stick rather than the passes that are thrown out in front and he gets a touch on it or something like that gensel is very good he’s better than debrusk but for what the Vancouver conects are looking for in terms of the dollar amount in terms of the path in terms of the age I do understand why this point is being made that Jake de brasque was a much better signing Than Jake gensel could have been I mean could you imagine Patrick Alvine shelling out $9 million a year to Jake gensel and to be fair I mean he signed $9 million for 7 years in Tampa if he had signed that same contract in Vancouver it’s probably not even not only is there the fact that state tax in Tampa Bay and Florida is a lot less but you also have the Canadian tax that overall federal tax rate is going to Dam some of these contracts heading over to Canada versus staying in the US not to mention even the quality of the team do you think Jake gensel if he’s getting the same amount of money take-home pay from the Vancouver connects versus the Tampa Bay Lightning he has the choice to go out there and play with kucherov and Stamkos okay not Stamkos anymore excuse EXC me kucherov and Braden Point versus Alias Pon and Neils hoglander for example I think it’s understandable to say why he would go to the former and that’s not even like acknowledging what’s going on in Vancouver right now right now Peterson and Miller are going through this thing is there a rift is there not who really knows Pon is struggling Miller is struggling and a lot of people would go out there and say that this isn’t really something within a guy like Jake deus’s control for example it’s in control of Pon and Miller these guys have a responsibility to uphold their own contracts and to be the differen makers we know they can be whether or not Jake gensel is on Vancouver versus Jake debrusk doesn’t really change that fact and ultimately while I do think gensel is the better player the contract that he’s on is a lot more expensive and it would have been even more expensive had he had agreed to sign in Vancouver that I think it’s reasonable to say that Jake debras was a better more appropriate signing for this team although of course it would have been crazy good to get Jake gensel too I mean I’m still salivating at the thought of that allamerican American line puder has been good with Miller and besser but imagine gensel on that line instead I don’t know how the cap shananigans would work but if you imagine if the Vancouver conu could have been able to get both of them Jakey D and Jakey G I guess like imagine a top six with those guys Pon de brosan maybe a Connor Garland or a Max assassin or whomever gensel besser Miller and then you have yourselves a third line of Dakota Joshua Teddy bler and kefir Sherwood and then you have hog glander with Danton hin and then Teddy bler on the fourth line that would be stacked okay maybe it’s not really ideal to go out there and start thinking about adding a top tier forward to the Vancouver connects at this point it’s only December after all so let me know your thoughts in the comment section below whether or not you feel like Patrick Aline made a strong move here by avoiding Jake gensel and getting Jake de brosque instead do you agree with the article yes or no the comment section is your floor I hope you enjoyed this9 and bye
