if you had Jesus lazardo to the Phillies congratulations because you were one of the few I don’t know who if anyone saw this coming the Philadelphia Phillies coming out of nowhere and grabbing lazardo in a trade we’re going to talk about the package the teams that should have and and could have stepped up and been there for Lardo and where maybe they go next how this impacts the Phillies we’re going to dive into this thing from a couple of different facets here but if you’re the Phillies this was the best available arm uh in the trade market we are hearing teams trying to pry a piece away from Seattle but Miller and wo Gilbert and Kirby it doesn’t feel like they’re going anywhere if anybody you’re going to get Castillo and there’s money attached there lazardo is projected to be at around six million bucks uh through arbitration and there’s another year after you getting two years of lazardo and that’s why the package that I want to talk about in a minute is kind of I mean it’s great for the Philadelphia Phillies the deal was not just lazardo we learned about an hour later that catcher Paul McIntosh was also headed to the Philadelphia Phillies for emeran Boyd and Starin cabba cabba is the prized piece here uh when one of the top prospects in the Philadelphia Phillies system now headed to Miami was the number 54 Prospect in baseball America’s top 100 so this is an Elite Talent that heads to Miami and these are pieces look at the ETA 2026 2027 I can’t remember who it was it was somebody from ESPN that was bitching about the pieces the the the proposed trades for Miami for losardo that they were they were not going to help anytime soon yeah that’s the point this team is not going to win anytime soon so you get a couple of pieces cab is the big one and he’s still you got 27 is the ETA that’s three years 25 26 27 until you might see him on the field so if you’re Philly making this trade look there’s there’s two things about a player that’s still 3 years away way being ranked 54th overall that can be a really good thing holy Cal look at this Talent he’s so young he’s still so far away but he’s good enough we’re we’re going to push him to the top 50 but there’s also some volatility there right what if he goes to the next level cuz he still has levels to climb and can’t hit a curveball or a slider or a splitter or or can’t can’t hang all of a sudden he’s gone from the top 100 so from a Philly’s perspective this this is great again I I have it that’s it two pieces and they’re nowhere close meaning there’s some volatility there Talent yeah it’s there but it could go either way and so we I applaud the Phillies great job great package here I got to get on some teams that we know need starting pitching and should have been able to put together a package comparable or better really it’s not comparable cuz that’s that’s not we’re looking for should have been able to put together a better package than this when you think about what crochet just went for and again it’s it’s it’s a different comparison but he went for four prospects two top 100s I feel like Lardo should have been maybe a little bit more was there no trade bidding war for lazardo uh uh this kind of package leads me to believe that there may not have been the number of teams hot for losardo that had been reported when you think about the Baltimore Orioles yeah I think you could have used Jesus Cesaro a he’s cheap 6 million bucks and B it’s two years and C lazardo is easily the the one or the two in this rotation he’s that good I believe highly in Jesus lazardo the the Orioles should have been there the Boston Red Sox they had been a team that had been linked and rumored to lazardo and obviously lazardo in the top of the rotation there lardo’s not even in the top of the well look at this lardo’s not a top of the rotation piece for the Phillies he would have been for these teams the San Francisco Giants where are you the Giants could put together a package to go and get lazardo why didn’t you that’s the thing about these trades when it comes out and you see what actually was sent to Miami you start looking at your team and say guys are we awake this is insane the New York Mets you can’t tell me that hey it’s going to be tough because they’re division Rivals to get this tradeoff because he went to Philadelphia SAA awesome but lazardo would be your number two if s lazardo then montos Holmes Blackburn um however else you going to shape this thing together what are we doing good job by the Philadelphia Phillies getting the jump getting it done for Boyd and cabba two players that are several years away Boyd’s kind of a throw in right now Boyd was an 11th round pick in 2022 he’s an a ball Boyd’s basically a throw in this is all about Starling cabba better hope that he works out if you are Miami cuz that is that’s what Jesus lazardo brought you we sometimes get on baseball trade values for missing on values and when we look at trades after they have come through looking at completely lopsided situations the Toronto Blue Jays trade for jenez was like $50 million off they get a big win on this on this trade 23.1 million in value going to Philadelphia 22.7 in value headed to the Philadelphia Phillies I argue though that lardo’s value was ripe to rise it had come down because he finished the year hurt they were definitely penalizing him for that because Jesus lazardo remember we did this exercise a couple weeks ago Jesus lardo’s value is lower than Dylan CE and Dylan CE has one more year left it’s significantly lower what was CE 33 34 million Lardo at 21.9 lazardo is only here because of that that injury that that shortened his season that ended his season early if he had finished Year healthy I think lardo’s value is probably closer to maybe double that or at least the high 30 million range so this is again a great job by the Philadelphia Phillies jumping now you could argue that Miami could have had a a higher value attached to losardo in May or June and you can’t tell me they won’t pull off a trade in May because that’s when they traded Lis arise last year so if they had gone into spring training Lardo look good April comes and goes he’s three in one uh and and throwing darts lardo’s value would have been much higher so this is a another great job for the Philadelphia Phillies and and here’s here’s what we’re looking at now now he’s not the five I just this morning when the trade went down at this point obviously you can go on there and you’ll see him uh on this in this rotation already embedded in there I grabbed it earlier wheeler Nola Sanchez Suarez and lazardo all top half of the rotation arms lazardo is not the clear one he’s obviously not a clear one I would argue that he’s got the talent to be the two but he’s not the two that’s like this is the rich getting richer kind of thing when it comes to talent in the rotation and those other teams that we looked at the Orioles the Mets the Giants the Red Sox needed lazardo to be the one or the two they wouldn’t put forth the package that the Phillies would put forth and the Phillies don’t even need lazardo they’re just taking him because they want to get better they’re looking to improve the team this is this is essentially a want trade not a need trade we talked about this last night in the live stream a want offering versus a need offering a need offering should be higher than a want offering and you couldn’t get that from the teams that needed him this is a really bad job by some of those general managers because now the situation they are presented with is diving back into the Corbin Burns situation and if without that you’re looking at flarity and flarity is going to cost you more dollars for more years you’re going to be pulled into a deal that you really probably AR comfortable with thinking about the other free agents that are available manah manah is going to cost you more money for more years flare is the same situation okay you could have had Lardo for a prospect that’s not ready for three more years so who the hell knows what’s going to happen no we’re good we’re going to we’re going to dig into that uh Justin Verlander market and he’s going to save the day hey maybe he will but maybe not this would have been uh clearly a better option in my opinion and the reason why I’m so hard on these teams right now that didn’t pull off this trade and I love it for Philadelphia is because lazardo in my opinion for the talent for the for the flexibility for the teams that had the need lazardo was the best option out there and when I look at the trade it seems like there were teams that were asleep at the switch that were trying to work Miami and win the trade in the end those teams in my opinion take a a clear L because the free agent Market again it is dollars and years that far surpass pass what lazardo in terms of dollars so the value is heavily in lardo’s favor for what he’s going to give you for what he’s going to cost compared to those others and if you want to dip into the trade pool still you’re now talking to Seattle and Lis Caso and the dollars attached there you’re talking to the Yankees about Marcus strowman you can’t talk to Houston anymore because VZ is off the board I I are you are you calling up St Louis and trying to get stepen mats this was the play Philadelphia got him didn’t even need him wanted him did the deal Philly’s rotation now again what we we keep talking about the bar Philadelphia wants to if they go head-to-head with the Dodgers in the NLCS be able to match them pitcher for pitcher and if you head into the NLCS and your guys are healthy and this is what you’re looking at it’ll be one hell of an NLCS that’s the bar you have to be better and that’s what Philly is trying to do I like it I really do I love it for the Philadelphia Phillies congratulations this was a great move for you what you gave up again I I I’m it is it is it’s it’s perfect I will take the uh the chance at a parade o over a prospect uh especially one that’s still 3 years away and is and is outside the top 50 when we’re looking at overall MLB Prospect rankings good job by the Phillies bad job Orioles Giants Red Sox anybody else that was looking for starting pitcher and could have slotted him in to your number one or your number two spot you should have been able to beat this this trade offer because you had the need and the need offer should be stronger than a want offer Lardo to the Phillies I like it all right guys that is going to
