looking for in return and what’s the plan going forward I’m J Mone your host for all things highl hockey and I’m joined by none other than Harry Clinton who covers the Ottawa Senators for do for dber prospects nef T welcome to high and wide hockey my friend how are you I’m good uh how are you doing doing great man it’s it’s it’s good to finally get you on I know we’ve kind of been talking on and off for the last uh seems like couple years now so uh really excited to get you on and we have a a big segment to get to too yeah I actually remember I don’t know how long ago it was maybe eight months ago we spoke about maybe doing a podcast together and uh I don’t remember exactly what happened but I think we uh schedule it didn’t work out but I’m happy to be here well we were all excited for a new season here and then uh here we are uh not even two months into the season and you know we’re already seeing who we can trade off the roster and and yada yada and you know we’re Clinging On to every rumor around the NHL and there was a report uh I think it was the other day that Ottawa could be looking to shake things up and potentially move a core player do you want to talk about that a little bit Yeah so uh yeah so the the offseason first of all was kind of interesting because uh you know a new ownership came in for the first time they had a full offseason to actually get things going with you know building the roster that they want um and the newly hired GM Steve stos um he had kind of like a a weird place to come into because uh the team was kind of set already and there was a few things he could have moved around but um he he didn’t he chose to not like blow up the team right away you know they’ll give him and then uh see what happens um and then clearly that hasn’t worked so far although you know the things could turn soon but um the SS currently are near the bottom of the division um two games below 500 not exactly where you want to be so that comes into where um a report came out a couple days ago I don’t know who exactly reported it first but I heard it from Frank [Music] fromily you know that the sends they might be open to trading one of the key players away um you know Josh Norris his name came up and uh I think it’s definitely something that they have to look at I don’t know if it’s going to happen soon you know maybe at the deadline maybe after the season but um if they want to shake things up it could definitely be a move uh you know something something they they might look at um as for which players might be on the Move that’s really hard to say because like you never want to trade a key player away and all these guys are young except for cl jaru they’re all young so like who exactly are you going to move um but since this more of a flyer Centric podcast um maybe I’d ask you uh which which players in the sends would you want most and then I can maybe tell you you know what we what we’d be looking for in return yeah sure that’s fun so the first player that I would assume comes to everybody’s mind would be Brady kachuck and I have to imagine that you know he’s off limits he’s the captain he’s he’s he’s signed long term correct he’s he’s signed for for pretty good amount of time up there isn’t he yeah uh I don’t know exactly I think he has five years left on his deal 8.2 million um long-term contract and he clearly bought into the system and uh you know the s’s bought into him so he’s he’s not he’s not like a pending UFA or anything like that sure yeah so I mean that that would be the guy I think Flyers fans are you know they would trade an arm and a leg probably both legs for for Brady kchu he’s uh you know he kind of fits the city personality wise and uh a player that would be beloved here in the city as I’m sure he is up in Ottawa so um just to kind of crush Flyers fans hopes and dreams here uh what would a return have to look like from a s’s perspective for Brady kachu so I have to admin that both arms and both legs that’s what it would take probably and uh maybe an eyeball or two you know for real yeah yeah for sure um there some sort of I don’t know were like um you know in the off season if the S don’t make the playoffs this year again he might request a trade but I don’t know exactly where they would get the information from un they asked him and I doubt he would even say that so um that’s probably not even true um if they did miss the playoffs this year again then if I was the GM everything is on the table but since I’m not the GM they’re not going to move them um so if kak was traded I’d be pretty much shocked but then you know the the list of names of people who are superstars who’ve been traded is very long so really anything can happen absolutely okay so let’s get to maybe potentially a little bit more realistic and um you know two names uh that the Flyers at least should be interested in one one uh I think was a name that was floating around last season in Shane pinto and and now a little bit more recently a name that’s kind of popped up and I I have to admit I I forget about him sometimes in Josh Norris uh both of these players play the center position it’s it’s pretty well documented the Flyers are extremely weak uh at the center position so the Flyers should be I think at least kicking the tires here um we were talking Josh Norris pre-show uh what can you tell us about these two players and do you think either of them could be available and if so what would what would a return have to look like yeah yeah so there are two similar players in a sense that they’re both still young both cerman and they both have a lot of potential um one key difference is that Pinto is making 3.75 million and Norris is making almost eight so um for any team that wants to trade for noris you might have to make some cap cap moves um I don’t know exactly what the cap situation is um but I can’t imagine they have a huge amount of cap space or I might be wrong on that it’s not great yeah maybe you could speak to that they can’t I don’t think they can afford a house right now in c space Oh yeah okay um well if it’s a Toronto house and they might have like 10 million in cap smoth um yeah so um so there would have to be some you know uh money coming back or or something like that um but as for the trade return you know it’s really kind of hard to say because they’re two different players in two different like modes of their careers kind of um Norris he’s kind of like he already had his really good season which was like two years ago when he had 35 goals in like 66 games like he was like supposed to become a star after that and then he had injury problems and kind of you know didn’t do very well after that um and Pinto has not had a season yet and he’s like he was good last year and um well when he was playing you know he was suspended for half the year um and uh so he they both have a lot of potential though um but so I say Norris in like you know a couple of good pieces coming back but we don’t because of his CIT um Hance to the senators in sense so unless he can do the 40 goal score every single year which we don’t know if he will be um then s might want to move them regardless not but Pinto is probably more like you know a really good piece coming back yeah and and he he’s a guy so I would assume if the SS wanted to move one of these guys they might be more willing to move on from Norris since he has the cap hit um and if if I I would assume if I’m the flyers I might be you know kicking the tires more on Pinto because of the cap hit and uh really the Flyers at this point I’m not sure they can be you know choosers it’s kind of like Hey we’re desperate for Center so if you’re willing to move one of these guys you know we’ll we’ll accommodate to make it happen and um you know I think I so let’s talk about return here a little bit I guess the SS they’re not in rebuilding mode anymore like it they’re supposed to be making runs for playoff position correct yeah so they’re supposed to be um but then again they were supposed to be like two or three years ago and that didn’t happen so yeah um they’re not at they’re not at the point right now where they can just go oh let’s just trade away two first round picks you know for a good player then we’ll just win the cup and then oh wait a minute we’ missed the playoffs and we have no draft piics So like um we can’t be doing that right now um they are in the position where if you look at the team they’re good on paper like there’s no holes in the on paper so that’s what makes it hard because like you know what do we want to return do we want um you know one of your prospects and and a pick or do we want like um I don’t know Joel fby or one of these roster players so um that’s what makes it kind of hard but I I do think uh you know Tak at the fires roster and their picks and their prospects and stuff like there’s a lot of players there that the S would like so I think something definitely could be done so I’m curious because um I believe the article that I was reading had specifically mentioned if the SS would want to improve in a in a position it would be the right-handed defense position um and since you’re on the show can can you confirm is that is that a weakness on the roster for Ottawa so yes and no um I don’t know when you saw the article because if it was from like a week ago it would be different than if it was from the summer because from the summer um if it was before the chck trade um the S had artum Zub on the right side and that was it and they needed someone else um now they have Nick Jensen so the top four on right on the right side is pretty solid right now um the problem is of course Zu is injured long term so we kind of have that need open again um so that’s definitely they’ve I mean they’ve been looking for a right-handed defenseman for like eight years so um that’s definitely something that they’re they’re looking for and also um I’d be Lo not to mention uh Travis hammeck is on the bottom pairing for for most games and uh he should not be on the bottom pairing so we can definitely use someone there too um so getting a right-handed defens is definitely something that we would need um but I feel like for a trade you know North or Pino perhaps leaving Ottawa um it’s not really so much what position we’d be getting back because not go ending because we we already have olark and forsberg um but forward or defense like any any of those positions really could could help us just to make a shakeup you know um I say Norris for farab be just as like an example of of something you know their their positions are kind of similar but just want to swap players to get people going sure yeah absolutely and Josh Norris is an intriguing player but again I think you know the the contract definitely comes with with some risk the Flyers are locked into Sean couturier for the next six or seven years at a similar cap hit um and you know that’s that’s obviously turning out to be a a very ugly contract uh so if they were to trade for Norris and maybe things kind of kept going how they were going that would be two guys they’ be they’d be locked into and um you know who knows there there’s risk I think there’s there’s more risk with Norris than than Pinto but that’s also probably why Ottawa would rather hang on to Pinto rather than Norris if they’re looking to shake things up um right exactly yeah I don’t know exactly what they’re thinking in their heads people who run the Senators but um I’d have to guess that they probably value Pinto more because of the C because um he doesn’t have the injury history that Norris has and uh just because he’s such a like electrifying player really both ends of the ice um so that that’s definitely taken to account um but for uh you know I I think there definitely could be a move um that works with the Flyers um I was actually looking at the the Flyers roster earlier and I was just thinking like you know let’s say because Norris is obviously the guy that I kind of want to move even though I like him but like you know um yeah so what what I was thinking was like you know if I was the San I went to the flers um what they might want to do is be like oh we’ll take Norris then you take Kor back and then we a day and I’m just like No And also ctor might say no to that too so um so I totally get what you’re saying you know about having two8 million doll centers who are both underperforming for the next like you know a bunch of years um that’s why Mak more sense for you that would be really interesting yeah I mean yeah I mean so Flyers would be trading their cap so here’s the thing with coutur because I wouldn’t be against that move uh at all um so coutur is kind of like um I don’t want to say it’s nepotism or anything I know him and torella kind of buttthe heads a little bit uh but he is the captain he is under contract for a long time and here’s a fun fact uh when Danny Brier played for the Flyers and Sean cier was in his rookie season Danny Brier is now the GM of the Flyers just in case there’s any uh fans out there who who didn’t know that uh couturier lived with Danny Brier and so there’s that relationship there and while I would be okay moving Couer I I I just wonder if there’s some kind of like attachment there that would prevent him from being moved you know what I mean or even asking him to wave his contract kind of there’s no movement claws kind of thing do you know what I mean yeah yeah for sure I mean that would that would be a nightmare to try to move him probably and he’s also the captain right so like that’s that’s not going to happen um and as I said you know another reason why it’s not going to happen is because otwa say no but um yeah yeah so yeah so as I were saying you know like Norris does carry a lot of risk um because of his injuries primarily and also because you know there is a chance he’ll turn into a player who plays every game but he has like 20 goals he’s making eight million so doesn’t really make much sense um although as to the injury thing if he does get injured at some point he can just be put on ltir so it’s not so bad but um but yeah so that that definitely I’m sorry what who who are who’s he playing with in Ottawa who are who are his Lin mates H so you’re talking about Josh Norris yes uh yeah so they they actually just um moved the lines around a bit but his usual line mates are D and Drake bson I believe although I could be wrong on that all right I’m I’m just curious because I’m I’m familiar with Josh Norris I would be lying if I said I watched a lot of them uh but the flag have a lot of wings a lot of wings that can get pucks to goal so I’m just trying to see where you know how he would fit here and um things like that but uh I think it’s certainly you know as we talk here it seems like Josh Norris were kind of zeroing in on him a little bit here and it sounds like you know if Ottawa is to shake things up he would be the guy that they would prefer to move and there could be a match somewhere with fers um you know a couple players we we talked about farab a little bit he’s got a $5 million cap hit so there’ have to be something else that goes along with him to match the cap for for Norris uh there’s arasmus for thean I’m not sure if if you’ve seen him lately but he’s in my opinion he’s been the flyer second best defenseman this season and uh it’s not a knock on Flyers defense R the Lan’s really rounded out his game under Brad Shaw the Flyers defensive coach um but I’m just trying to come up with names that could come close to the the same cap hit as Norris um so it’ll be interesting to see I mean we’re we’re talking Rumors in my opinion pretty early in the season here aren’t we yeah well that probably comes to the territory of being fans of teams that you know are not exactly the most exciting at this point usually uh and you know we’re not going to admit it but we’re kind of like you know what choice should we make you know that kind of thing um but uh the wrto line is interesting because you know for a he was like the poster boy of like oh he sucks you know 41 rating a few years ago and uh last year or this year you know he’s he’s been pretty good um I haven’t watched too much but like I’ve definitely heard good things about him recently um I don’t think this ends would want him though because um Zub is making four million Jensen four million and line would be five million and they’re all playing right side defense that’s probably too much on that position and they’re all like defensive defenseman so probably doesn’t make that much sense um but I think cap wise something definitely could be worked out um and one player we haven’t mentioned is really Greg and I really do not think the S would want to move him um but then again they don’t really want to move any of these guys so um but this is a guy the Flyers would love like he’s one of those agitators you can put up points you can take a slap shot on you know he did that against theads and you know all that all that kind of stuff you’re loving a player you know Fred kachuck light type of type of player um so he’d be a guy the Flyers would definitely wants but like I don’t know exactly what it would take to get him because he’s like I think 22 years old um so you know he definitely has a long future ahead of him um but yeah back to Josh nor though I think it’s definitely he could he can just you know I don’t know if the consistency is necessarily there like last year he had 30 points in 50 games which is like pretty middling um but yeah I’d love to hear your thoughts about you know Dr was the player and and how he could fit into the Flyers yeah I mean they need centers uh like flat out they need centers Morgan Frost is their most offensively talented Center at this point Shan Couer you know he’s still very good defensively but he’s not the same player offensively anymore he just uh you know he’s getting older you know in two back surgeries it’s just uh he’s not the same guy offensively maybe maybe it’s there somewhere still uh but we haven’t seen it now for almost a year he had a really good start last year and kind of flamed out and it’s just kind of stayed that way uh so Josh Norris and he would be an instant you know he would be probably the Flyers most talented offensively uh Center so um would be a valuable player for the Flyers to get their hands on for sure yeah who are the other centers that the Flyers have like Morgan Frost play center right and uh does Bobby Brink or is he a Winger Bobby Brinks a rer so they have Frost they have Couer they’ve been starting uh Scott lton at Center they have Ryan paling and they also have Noah Kates so Scott Lawton’s been playing Wings since Noah Kates has become uh back into the lineup uh so not a lot of very offensively talented or offensively gifted centers they’re all kind of third and even fourth line guys there in my opinion you know they don’t have a Topline Center at this point at Best in Couer they have a s line Center and then Frost is kind of a second third line guy in my opinion yeah yeah so what I’m hearing from that is like you know all those guys are like decent guys to have um but they don’t really at this point have anything close to number one Center um and you know Josh Norris at this point isn’t really a number one Center either um but he might be your best bet although you might not want to you know hedge all your bet on this one guy who has an injury history has not been very consistent um but yeah so we I think it’ be good to talk about you know potential returns for north um what would you think about giving up for him yeah so the Flyers somehow suddenly have an abundance of right ID and that’s kind of why I brought that up and they they they’ve I know I know Ottawa wouldn’t necessarily need a wrist of ler but he’s a guy that would come to mind for me uh Jamie Dale if you know they’re looking for a cheap pro uh cheap project kind of player the Caps won’t really m match up there um in terms of forwards uh you have a Joel faraby who I think is making five million a year for the next three years or four years and you know the Flyers are also rumored to be shopping uh Bobby Brink who is making less than two million a year so um those are a few guys that have are rumored to be available Morgan Frost is rumored to be available um making less I think he’s making 2.1 so um yeah I mean those are those are some players the Flyers have a lot of picks first and second round picks in this year’s draft they have six total picks in the first two rounds so uh they have a lot they have a lot to work with they also have a Winger in the AHL Samu toala who’s playing very well they have just have an abundance of wings even even a guy like Tyson Forester who you know I I really like I really enjoy watching I don’t think that he can be off the trade block either you know I don’t think his name should be kept out of these kinds of discussions so Flyers have a lot of players that um you know they can offer up and and kind of make something work you know yeah yeah I’m I’m hearing a lot of decent to good pieces uh in that um I’m just one idea that came off the top of my head is um now the values might not line up but cap wise if we did Josh Norris for Joel Furby and Jamie Dell that would work obviously the S might have to add something um but that could be an interesting move I don’t know if the SS want to trade for a d out type player um they have their number one Prospect right now is Tyler is um Carter yurchuk seventh overall pick right-handed defenseman from last year um and he like actually almost made the lineup this year as like a 19yearold um which is pretty wild um so he’s like their number one guy going forward on the right side futurewise um so I don’t know if they’re going to want to bring in a Dy though type of guy who’s like the exact role even though he might be a little bit lower down the pedigree um so yeah so Dil I mean he’s a guy that I want to the SF for a long time um I didn’t at the time you know in the 2020 draft D went six and Sanderson went f um so at the time I didn’t really have strong opinions about that um like oh yeah sanderson’s good so let’s just go with that um but uh that I think more thery could be a guy Des sends with want um and he also has consistency problems and um I don’t think he has injury problems but he’s hasn’t been uh too I think he had what he had 50 points last year or was that two years ago yeah he did that 50 points last year he had a really good uh first half almost three quarters of the season and then he fell off a cliff I think he had like four points in his last 15 to 20 games or something like that it was really bad and then uh again he’s another one of those guys that ended bad last year and has kind of started the same this year that way you know what I mean so um you know there’s sounds like a play want yeah like he’s one of those guys you know and I’m not sure how I’m not sure how uh his value is perceived around the league so like you know I don’t know maybe like a Morgan Frost and Joel farabe for a Josh Norris and you know whatever else maybe that’s maybe that looks like a trade I’m not sure you know um but the cap would match there uh I think it would around 7.1 or 7.2 for the Flyers and then whatever Norris is making seven something over there so I know just we’re just kicking around some ideas here and if the trade happens like we said you know make sure we get the credit okay all right you know you got the credit and yeah yeah that that that would be really funny if that happened like you know two hours from now 11: p.m it’s just like oh Frank surali has a trade to announce you know Josh for far and frost you know yeah future considerations yeah make sure you credit HW hockey Jim and neft tally we we talked about it first so um that’s gonna man I mean 25 minutes went by already we were talking before the show we’re like yeah we’ll bang out a 15 20 minute episode and like we were
