we are back to one of our favorite programs here on the just baseball show playing general manager and we’re going in alphabetical order Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks you got arm Laden I am Peter Apple but before that we’re going to address some headlines Nolan arado is willing to play first base why Juan stto has contract offers from five teams we’re going to go over all of it here on the Wednesday November 27th edition of the just baseball show and it is all brought to you by bet MGM the king of sports books remember folks in the off season you could still use promo code just baseball to get that first bet offer up to $1,500 back in bonus bets if your first wager loses baseball it’s a slow time clearly in the offseason that’s why we’re playing general manager but if you want to use it on NBA NFL college football college basketball whatever you want make sure you use promo code just baseball on bmgm but remember gambling problem call or text 18 100 Gambler must be 21 years or older terms and conditions apply also arm this will be our last episode this week we’re taking Thanksgiving off hopefully everybody has a great Thanksgiving of course we’ll be back Monday to continue playing general manager but I want to start with this Nolan arado report so her Katie Woo covers the Cardinals for the athletic has been on our show multiple times she does great work the quote is Nolan arado is willing to play play first base in a potential trade to create roster flexibility for the team what was your first reaction to that why why that’s that’s that’s got to be the first one I I I I could understand it if it’s like hey I would occasionally play first when needed if needed but I don’t understand why you would want I know everyone is going to have the same thought here the the major value that no one still maintains and Carries is the glove at third right which was still played quite well uh this past season the bat on the other hand has not been as Nolan Aon is over the last couple years so you know if you’re a team that’s acquiring Nolan Aron to play first base I I I don’t know if noan arado is gonna want to be on that team anyways it it made absolutely no sense to me and it’s one of those reports where you read and it makes no sense to you and moment and then you say did he have a worse defensive year than I thought and that’s why he would do it but no you look into the numbers and it just furthers the point that this makes absolutely no sense so why would you not want to trade for Nolan Aeron well for starters 2022 he was awesome 891 Ops but in 2023 he drops to a 774 Ops the power drops as well his OBP dropped a ton down to 315 then in 2024 he’s coming off year with 16 home runs but he was healthy all season long with a 719 Ops and the batted ball data is not nearly as good as it used to be but the reason that you’d still bring in Nolan Aeron you hope the bat bounces back because he’s still just 33 years old and you know he’s going to play Elite defense at their base and that’s exactly what he did for the Cardinals last year he was in the 95th percentile of outs above average yeah 95th percentile he was one of the best defenders at third base in the sport again so again why was this asked how was this brought up who in their right mind would say actually we want to take the best part of Nolan Aeron and we want to put him at a position that inherently doesn’t really have any defensive value right first base among all positions that’s the one position that you don’t really care about defense so then youd be adding the bat and then what teams are thinking themselves yes that’s why we trade for Nolan aerona the whole report makes no sense to me yeah I that’s the thing too so how’d it come up like maybe it’s just his way of of portraying that hey I’m willing to do whatever it takes to win somewhere else uh but I think there’s better ways to to do that and and and again like third base is already a bit of a premium offensive position but you can justify League average offense if you’re going to play superb defense like like arado has and even if it’s not the clearcut best defense in baseball as you mentioned is still very close and that’s you know what you can count on clearly with him but you know no one’s going to be acquiring noan ronado hoping he puts their offense over the top it’s more of okay this is a hole we have we know that he’s going to be a positive player even if it’s just a low 700s Ops again we know he’s still going to be you know a multi-win player but we’re taking a shot that he’s going to be better than that um that’s fair but if if you’re putting him at first you’re really expecting him to produce like a near 800 Ops cuz that’s normally what you’re going to want to get from a first baseman especially if you acquired him and especially given what he’s going to cost financially and you know potentially what he will cost in terms of a prospect return maybe not a ton because of the finance side of things but yeah I I don’t think that’ll make much of a difference in terms of teams that are looking at him I don’t think the first Bas side of things is going to change much uh the only thing that I could think of there was like if he’s just trying to get himself over to New York uh with the Yankees because it’s like okay you could justify him playing some third there but maybe there’s a world where they want to move things around a little bit and some days aado can play first and you don’t want to just have third base totally clogged up I I I felt like that was the only team that I could see it being like okay well we’ll move him around a little bit then uh and and I’m sure you know you guys I know the Yankees fans and our staff are are not very Pro Aeron to the Yankees I understand why kind of seen this movie before but um it just felt like that was almost the team that he was almost that that report seemed like it was catered towards it’s almost like Wilson Gras coming out a report with him saying I I’m willing to catch and not hit it’s like no that’s not why we want you like that’s compl opposite yeah we watch you swing it you can play first you can play wherever so I just thought that was a strange report that I wanted to bring up uh the next headline Juan stto officially has contract offers from five teams per Rand D Miller the five teams are the New York Yankees the New York Mets the Boston Red Sox the Toronto Blue Jays and the LA Dodgers so I wrote an article um on just baseball.com we’ll link it in the episod description of what the Yankees should do if they don’t get Juan SoDo and it’s almost um highlighting the Moneyball meme we’ll recreate him in the Aggregate and I think I built a pretty good team so the reason I’m bringing that up is the more and more I think about the wano sweep Stakes the more and more I’m coming to the realization that my original take of if the offers are similar the Yankees are gonna get Wan sto the offers just might not be similar yeah Steve Cohen is on a beline to giving Wan stto as much money as he can humanly take the allore of LA right people would say you know it’s a [ __ ] move they won’t be a fan of the of baseball anymore I understand that right because to me I even tweeted this out and I’m curious if you if you like this comparison or if you think it’s too much and I people are comparing it to KD to the Warriors if sooda were to sign with the Dodgers and I’m like no no no no no this is the Dodgers or the Warriors signing a 26y old LeBron after they won the title with KD already because remember that Warriors team lost and then they added KD the Dodgers just one and five and they’re already saying that the Yankees were a real test that really it was only the Padre’s who they did beat in five and now they’re getting healthier right this this is a team that won the World Series in five with half their team on the I like if I’m won SoDo and I’ve already won a championship like you don’t have to prove anything to anyone why not go to La if they’re going to give me $625 million go play with SH Otani go play mukie Betts go play with Freddy Freeman and win five titles and arguably go down as one of the greatest players of all time I get it I get it from Juan stos and you get to live in LA and make $600 million do yeah yeah or go to the Mets and make the most money ever yeah or go back to the Yankees and field a competitive offer and then you have the Blue Jays maybe they’re desperate right maybe they’re in the Steve Cohen range where they’re saying screw it we’re going to spend all all of our money on him we need it or maybe he wants to be the franchise Cornerstone of the Red Sox like there’s the more I think about it the more I’m like yeah I said that the AES have the best chance no I think we’re like fourth or fifth well I think what we’re seeing too is this isn’t just a a two three four five year decision right this is what is perceived to be the rest of of sto’s career and that’s why he’s having conversations about the farm system and what’s your plan to continue to funnel Talent up this way because stto knows that it’s very likely that with almost any team he signs with by the end of his contract there might not be a single player that was on the team when he first started with that ball Club so knowing that and wanting to be in a consistent position for Success it’s not just what every team’s roster situation is right now and to your point like you can get behind what the what the Dodgers are doing obviously and have done for a while you can get behind I think what the Mets are building I think there’s probably a very compelling pitch between Steve Cohen’s money and and you know what you can get from Sterns at the helm there and what we’re already seeing um you know Toronto I don’t know if I would believe in the vision there as much so it might be difficult but I think even Boston with this new front office and now they’re willingness to spend and and the the baseball and sports town that it is there too like every team has a pretty unique pitch and uh you know the Yankees do have the advantage of familiarity but it it seems like that may not be as important to stto so I think it’s a wide freaking open man and you know what I I think that’s a good thing it’ll make it more fun and less predictable and I really have no freaking idea where it’s going to go but it’s cool to see five offers already in and you know they’re going to draw this process out a little bit it is wildly entertaining I am curious what do you think of that comparison is it more adding a 26-year-old LeBron to the Katie and Steph Warriors or do you think that’s a little bit too much and that’s over because it is basketball yeah LeBron’s too good even though Soto’s like up there with anybody but I it’s along those lines though it’s definitely 26y old yic maybe yeah something like a little bit it’s it’s definitely along those lines though uh because I mean yeah they just waltzed for the most part I think the Padre’s part that was not a waltz that was that was a hardfought battle but then you know like you said kind of made it look easy in the World Series uh yeah something just feels a little bit off of then just jumping over to that team um and it does feel very nbish um which has kind of been one of my criticisms of of the NBA at points yeah so those are the five teams uh we’ll continue to update everybody you know on the WAN stto Saga uh before we play general manager uh just a quick quick ask from our daily listeners first of all appreciate you guys a ton in the off season continually listening and watching the just baseball show just want to say my thanks to all of you and if you could rate review on Spotify Apple podcasts five stars the best way to support without spending a single dime takes like 5 seconds and if you’re kind enough to leave a written review on what you’ve enjoyed again best way to support the podcast in the offseason especially as well as if you’re watching playing General Manager on YouTube hitting that subscribe button hitting the like button and we’re going to go through a ton of moves for these teams So for anybody coming in new right this is your first year potentially listening to the podcast in the off season what we do is we go through every single team we identify needs we look at the free agents that they’ve already signed right if they’ve already made some offseason moves we go over their stats right stuff that they were great in areas they were deficient in and then we make our own mock trades mock signings for some of these free agents so I know arm loves it I love it Jack loves it listeners of the gist baseball show over the years have loved this and I cannot wait to start again alphabetical order we’re tackling the Braves and the Dbacks and then throughout the offseason we’ll handle every single team and then of course we got plenty of offseason content anything to add to there anything I miss yeah no I’d say important wrinkle too is like as much as I’d love to funnel you know top players and expensive players to certain teams you we also want it to be realistic and and a realistic thought exercise so you know if a team is you know expected to to maintain or trim pay role we’re going to have to operate within those confines and that’s kind of the interesting part with the Dbacks and leads us into that but um and also if a team is saying they’re going to spend then you know we can be a little bit more aggressive there so we’re trying to base it off of what the reports are and and and what’s being said about these teams as well and whatever you know we might be hearing and occasionally I might say something stupid right I might bring up a move that makes absolutely no sense but I like it and I I want to just float it in the minds of some of the fans and it’s not going to happen but it does make a couple people laugh and that’s all I want to do so we will start um with the Atlanta Braves let’s get straight into it so we’ll go over some of their offseason moves that they’ve done so far and honestly the offseason moves that the Braves have done far are really sneaky under the radar Braves moves just like they always do it’s paying really good players like almost no money and for whatever reason they want to stay in Atlanta and that’s more of a testament to probably Atlanta’s culture right the Braves culture the team that they are able to built that people buy in and they don’t need the big bucks Aaron bummer coming off the year we had a 358 ra but a 280X ER 61% ground ball rate left-handed reliever for the Braves was excellent all season long two years $1 13 million deal great deal that that’s that’s the type of deals that I want every team to be making like you don’t need to go spend for a closer four years 60 million get a bunch of Aaron bummers and your Bullpen is going to be elite just like the Braves was last year and then raldo Lopez coming off a season where he put up a 1 199 erra in 135 Innings yeah the underlying metrics didn’t love him but what I do know is that batters didn’t like to face him right and that’s what you get with a 1 199 ra three years 30 million yep that’s great that’s a great they’re in a great spot even if you regress as to what those expected numbers were like what he gave you was pretty much worth that if not more Frankie monos made 16 million last year I mean that’s that’s just where we’re at so getting him on a three or30 million deal Alex anthopoulos continues to cook um also some small things they made a trade with the angels sending Jorge Solair for Griffin canning who they non-tendered that’s what they thought of that trade um and they also made a trade with the A’s for Nick Allen shortstop in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jared Johnson I have no idea who Jared Johnson is are no I didn’t know who that was either I click through I’m pretty sure he was like a older minor league reliever um I mean Nick Allen’s depth but you know like that’s a guy that all of a sudden I’m not saying he’ll be good but if he’s a 650 Ops guy now with his glove that’s a fine piece to have on the bench definitely A shot work taken absolutely so uh let’s look at the team stats so on offense we know that the Braves struggled this season 12th in Ops as an offense still fine but not the number one in Ops offense that we got in 2023 they were fourth in home runs they had a bunch of long balls but they were very shall I say shitty on the baits pass 28th in stolen bases starting pitching was excellent this year headlined by Chris winning the sa young they finished third in ra Fifth and whip first in strikeouts per nine and then the bullpen was El lead as well third in ra sixth in whip second in strikeouts per nine I want to go over their outstanding free agents guys that they can bring back before we identify the needs and then fill out some of the moves that we are thinking about so outstanding free agents Jesse Chavez I put at the top of the list I put at the top of the list even though Max fre is also an outstanding fre agent you got to bring back Jesse Chavez I think he retired it did he I think like I think I don’t think he officially said it but I’m pretty sure he like I saw a video of him like his last time out there true yeah he it all in yeah but I they should still try I still want him I still want him on should still try he said he’s probably going to retire that’s not definitely I I can’t I’ll believe it when I see it that guy that guy’s just will never leave and I hope he does it because he was still great last year he’s amazing they also have Charlie Morton Gio orella Whit marafield Adam Duvall John breia and then of course Max freed AJ Minter is one uh Kevin bigio was outrighted to the miners he is now a free agent and then they non-tendered Ramone laurano hker yoa and Ray Kerr you want to talk about needs yeah yeah I mean the only surprise there was maybe laurano given how he he swung it with them but I think it kind of shows you that they probably thought he just had a fortunate stretch and and they weren’t willing to bank on that happening again especially at you know what he might cost yeah I think it’s the right move all right let’s talk about needs so I didn’t rank them in specific order I just put all four down I think this team needs a short stop oh yeah I think oh yeah I’m getting I’m grown a little tired of the Orlando Ria show I know that he made an All-Star team I get that but in that year he had a 760 Ops right that’s what he ended the year and then last year the bat was just non-existent and I know he’s a good defensive shortstop but you have Nick Allen now I mean that’s kind of where we’re at I know Orlando Ria is definitely a step above Nick Allen I’m not trying to disrespect r that much I’m just saying if you are the Atlanta Braves you want to compete against the Dodgers you want to win the division back from the Phillies you want to regain the Atlanta Braves lore that you are truly one of the best teams in here and not an early exit like you were in the playoffs we need to upgrade the short side position Outfield it’s tough because Michael Harrison Center Ronald can Jr and right I’d like to grab a platoon bat for a Jared Kellick or if you are more down on Kellick we can talk about bigger Outfield options well that was what was interesting and by the way Orlando RC at second lowest WRC plus I think this past season um and and of all qualified hitters in Major League Baseball only ahead of Michael Garcia 72 WRC plus was just above Michael Garcia at 69 Michael Garcia is gonna be good Jack doesn’t believe me I don’t even think you believe me gonna be good he’s gonna be good I swear he’s my guy somewhere else maybe he might be in the top 100 then I do I might put him at 99 I’m making a statement with Mel Garcia that was a baseball nerd group think of of all time I like it was it was all the smartest people I know loved him I me too and I’m get I’m I’m not jumping off ship yet you gotta lucky you got unlucky yeah for every game of the year game um but no like that puts it in perspective though right like that’s your shortstop obviously health is the number one acquisition for for the Braves and and hopefully they’ll be able to do that what was fascinating to me and I don’t know if this was an indictment on Kellick or just the way that they want to approach it because it is still kind of sneaky right-handed heavy through that lineup is that I’m pretty sure Alex anthopoulos came out and said we want a left-handed hitting outfielder potentially we want Outfield help but we’re leaning towards left-handed help out there so I thought that was interesting does that mean it’s an upgrade over kelic or does that mean that they just want another left-handed bat in the fold because this was from Ken Rosenthal I believe um that you know they they were preferring to add a left-handed bat if possible after they non-tendered Ramone laurano um and I think the word to use was poking around the market for outfield help so that made it interesting to me yeah what is that because you have a left-handed outfielder Jared Kellick with and but then also poking around that feels like you’re going bargain hunting which is fine right I have a bargain hunting platoon to match with Jared Kellick right the Braves don’t need to spend a ton of money they get back Ronald kunu Jr they get back Spencer schrider and they clearly have an awesome team poking around is an interesting term I think for the right deal you just move off of like K Nick was bad too he was kind of but I believe in him again he’s a guy who I think is better than don’t you are you out on him I I can’t be I’m officially out I I I held out this was my last year and I I’m done I can’t do it anymore 62 WRC Plus in the second half and good defense I’d be like a little bit more on it I know that they threw him in center field and that was you know that was probably a tall task and an expectation for him there and you know that probably docked him a little bit but he actually held his own in Center which is which is pretty amazing I think honestly in the corner sometimes graded out a little bit worse so maybe that’s a that’s a guy that you want as like a Paton and fourth outfielder type the reality is if you go out and get a Max Kepler and I know you you we’re talking about your favorites here like ke wasn’t he wasn’t great last year but I feel very confident that at worst he’s going to be what he was last year which I still think is better than what you’re gonna get from Jared kick like just at this point I think it’s it’s very clear so is that where you go or do you aim a little bit higher it just doesn’t seem to be the way that the Braves go about things in free agency is to like go after you Anthony santand there or you know T Oscar Hernandez like I do think Kepler just also just a big change in scenery candidate like he was great in 2023 he was really really good there had 123 WRC plus 2.8 F4 hit 24 bombs and last year he was banged up and I don’t know the team underperformed as a whole and you know it was a 94 WRC plus but you he still was a positive he was a one F4 player like this just seems like the kind of guy that you bring him over to the Braves and he gets invigorated a little bit and all of the sudden you see him start to take off like he was dealing with a knee and hip issue I believe through a lot of the years so assuming that he’s all healthy now that is a guy that I do think could just bounce back change of scenery healthy and and get back to like the guy that’s flashed two three win seasons and I think at his best hit 36 home runs okay I want to table this because once we get into the moves I think we can we can really cook something let’s go over some more needs I think for the Braves um I think they need a starter yeah um I don’t think they’re going to bring back max f I think that ship has kind of sailed we know how the Braves operate I don’t know if they’re going to give out these big time contracts but I look at Chris S Nails right Ronaldo Lopez you hope he can replicate the same success but I think even the biggest Braves fan in the world would say if I gave you a line of a 2.0 erra higher or lower next year the biggest Braves fan is going to say higher right I I still think he’s a good pitcher right is expected Dr is around 37 if he does that he’s still I think that’s exactly what he’s going to be to be honest it’s right around there and that’s a good picture I think schwellenbach is a dog absolutely I think those three you got Grant Holmes did show some good stuff in in a limited sample 68 Innings 356 I know he worked out of the bullpen a little bit he was somewhat of an opener sometimes but in extended starts I thought he looked pretty good but is that a guy who you want to rely on maybe as your five starter I can understand that and then Ian Anderson I’m just seeing on roster resource here like depth yeah you know depth but we need a starter here and then in the bullpen the bullpen is was very good last year but I’d like to add another piece or two to this especially if they are going to lose Menor or we could talk about moves where we just bring AJ Minter back because he was hurt for most of if not all of last year but the report says that he should be ready for spring training and AJ Minter is a guy that I think AJ is going to be one of those names where sometimes we do this playing general manager where we fall in love with a couple of relievers in particular it’s not really position players of starting pitch more relievers where we’re like fits everywhere I remember like three years ago maybe it was the first time we ever did this I put Brad Boxberger on every single team because I was like a 38 middle reliever righty everyone could use him so that’s what I feel like Minter is going to be but I just feel like he likely found a home here in Atlanta so did you identify yeah Jo Jimenez should be back at some point I don’t know exactly what the timeline is there but you know he was he’s disgusting so like that’s another guy that’ll be back obviously they still have ryel so the bullpen I think the Braves have just proven to be able to piece that together yeah one way or another I I think a starting pitcher is definitely a huge huge part of this thing because you know Chris S like it was awesome to see him finished the year with 177 in twoth thirs Innings but let’s remember how it ended right like he ran out of gas and um you know there was some some flare ups there he’s 36 years old about to be and he’s had a ton of injury history I think if you’re banking on another 175 Innings from Chris Sale you might be setting yourself up for failure that’s where the depth comes in right like AJ Smith Sher I hope that he can finally just consistently get opportunity I still believe he can be a good arm but you need another proven arm there um and that’s the the fascinating part of it too is cu like thing gets overlooked a little bit but they could probably use another established arm there because I think between Chris S and Ronaldo Lopez you’re looking at regression you know I don’t think Chris performance-wise like I’m I think as long as he’s healthy he’s going to be that but you know it’s I’m not gonna say very confidently that he’s gonna match last year from an output standpoint then I think you know we we set the scene already with Ronaldo good news is you’ll get a full year again a schwanen Bach will throw more than 123 Innings but I definitely think starting pitching I don’t know if it’s as much of a priority as short stop but I I thought at first I was like okay just bring back Charlie Morton but that’s just another one of those like back under the rotation type of guys ultimately I still think that’s probably how they go about it I don’t see them going and spending big and I I love like a walker to them where it’s like he has the upside to to grab a a front spot in that rotation um but you know also if he settles in more as like the middle rotation type of arm you’re fine with that and you’ll just roll that way uh I I I think that kind of signing makes a lot of sense because again I just don’t see them going like major long-term deal for a starter or anything like that yeah let’s address all these moves in order so let’s start with short stop because I think that’s would you say that’s the most glaring move I know you kind of mentioned that starting pitching is too but I think I just I think shortstop has to be the most glar yeah because I think there are just so many starting pitchers that the Braves can grab I think they’ll be okay and we talked about some of the young pitchers coming up for them too so and they’re going to get Strider back yeah and even a hon walr like that’s the thing getting Strider back like Strider back really makes a huge difference here where like I mean that takes some pressure off a sale you have yeah I it’s shorts stop for sure I honestly now I lean more towards like you can you can kind of lean towards the the depth arm more than anything when you have S Strider and and schwellenbach and Lopez that one two three four that’ll play you can just figure out the fifth spot dirty so let’s talk about short stop I’ve two ideas two ideas the first idea I think is simple you sign Hong Kim hon Kim is a beast hon Kim is an elite Defender at shortstop he can also play second base and he’s just been a good hitter he’s slightly above average when we’re looking at WRC plus right he’s probably going to give you around 105 to 115 or I think that’s kind of what he is five to 15% better than a League average hitter while playing good defense while being a beast on the base p and I think that’s key here because I brought up that the Braves were 28th in stolen bases watching the Braves this year it just felt like their offense was stagnant for a lot of the year that they were continually waiting for one of their big guys to hit the home run right it almost felt like the Yankees in a way where it’s you’re just kind of waiting and then when Matt Olson doesn’t hit 50 Ronald auna Jr gets hurt obviously he’s going to help the stolen bases a ton and Riley doesn’t have a great year that’s where everything can kind of just fall apart so I’d like some more Dynamic players on this team guys who can do the little things a little bit more I think Hasan Kim is just the perfect fit also makes sense for Atlanta coming if we’re talking about the money right I’m thinking a fiveyear maybe $60 million deal maybe it’s more but it’s not going to be I don’t think in the hundred million range so in terms of the fit I think it makes a ton of sense in terms of the money I think it makes a ton of sense the only thing is we might want to give Hasan Kim to a lot of teams because there are multiple teams who are in need of a short stop and hang Kim does so many great things on the baseball field that he’s going to have a lot of suitors that’s why I came up with a couple of more creative ideas in order to address the shortstop position yeah I mean I’m with you Kim Kim was an no-brainer I think in terms of a fit I know like Alex anthopoulos historically doesn’t like dealing with Scott Boris or whatever but this is not you know a typical Boris client where you know you’re going to be dealing with hundreds of millions of dollars like you said I think you can come to an agreement on a multi-year deal that’s going to be somewhat reasonable with a player like Kim he fits perfectly and and satisfies a lot of of what they need and then I think you know I I don’t know what else you have I wonder if you had Nico Herer also because I think they’re very similar right like a trade for niiko herner is exactly where I went to where I was like you either go sign Hassan Kim but if you don’t want to spend that that money a trade for nio horer from the Cubs I think could make all the sense in the world for the same reasons you just gave right like yeah the you know who led the Braves and stolen bases last year let me guess um who led the Braves in stolen bases was it albz even though he played like 70 third okay who was first then not Mike Harris Mike Harris was second and he was 10 for 16 Ronald aunia Jr the team bases in his 49 games where he wasn’t even playing well so like that is a wrinkle that I agree like they need to be able to manufacture some runs here and I think Kim helps them do that I think Nico Herer helps him do that he gets on base at a good clip he’s a phenomenal Defender you shift him over to Short Stop I think he would play a very highle short stop that’s his natural position he I think he would be spectacular there um on top of that you look at what he’s done year over he’s like a guaranteed four- win player the last several years he’s under contract for two more years at about 11 or 12 a year it’s not as good of a bargain to where that you can do the classic Braves like Leverage it and and buy out more years but they still probably could like if if that’s something that Nico Herer was willing to do to just guarantee himself you know a long-term deal maybe they can leverage those two years at like 112 million per and and extend them for a few more but regardless I just think going to get a Herer who seems like the Cubs are are shopping him and and moving him right to Short Stop where I think he would play at a really high level and help set the table for this team and I mean he’s he’s a 30 40 stolen base threat every single year as well at a really efficient clip he gives this team kind of everything that they were missing couldn’t agree more I also wrote down a trade for Nico Herer and I wanted to go over a package but I also had one more idea go back to the well call up the Boston Red Sox and see what Trevor story’s deal is about that’s what I thought of you know um Chris Sale right they only had to give up Von Grom for him so at the time right it was still Chris Sale but he wasn’t the same Chris Sale that we had seen then he goes to Atlanta and wins the Sai Young dominant all season long contr tror story use a change of scenery I’m sure the Red Sox would like to move off that money they got Marcel Meyer coming up they also have sadon rafhaela right maybe he’s playing center field or maybe he’s playing shortstop they just have so many pieces and I’m sure moving off that contract right I’m sure the Red Sox would eat most of it and the Braves might give him a decent Prospect I don’t think it’s going to be very expensive maybe it’s another one of those moves what do you think about that one that’s actually an interesting one um with the presence of rafhaela I you know I I wonder you know with this sto case that they’re making you know and and and trying to lure in free agents I don’t know how much they would care whether story is there or not obviously when he was on the field he’s actually looked a little bit better of but that’s a big caveat when he’s on the field uh there’s still a lot of money on that deal you got 22 and a half million in 25 you got 25 million in 26 25 million in 27 and then a team option in 2028 with a $5 million buyout so yeah they would have to eat a lot of money I wonder optically if the Red Sox would be willing to send the Braves another player that was formerly a star that they would be paying the majority of the money too um but maybe there’s the familiarity there and say all right well we’ve done this once before let’s do it again uh I I think it’s a it’s an interesting thought I just think it might be complicated from the financial perspective uh and the injuries too like yeah you’re a team that was decimated last year I want a guy that’s probably a little bit more available but don’t you think that guy you’d get him for nothing and then what he could be yeah Trevor story I don’t know I I think the I getting Kim is the much better fit but I think he’s going to have a lot of suitors and I don’t know if Atlanta is the team that he picks right we’ve talked about him to the Giants plenty you know potentially the Yankees would go get him as well there’s a lot of teams you know because he could play second or short stop so any team in the market for second baseman any team in the market for a shortstop is going to be on has young Kim so while he fits for the Braves is that going to be the team and then with niiko horer right he is transitioning over from second base to shortstop right he’s played plenty of shortstop before but if you are trading for a niiko Herer I’m just thinking about from the brace perspective like is niik horer so much better of a hitter than Orlando Aria who they have now who they know can still play Elite defense and they’re gonna have to give up like multiple decent prospects for him is that worth it for them the way Alex anthopolos thinks I think it is but I just don’t know if that’s what they’re going to do and I just feel like an anthopolos move is giving up nothing for story and watching him become an All-Star the first half well hor so Herer every single this this is crazy the last four years 106 WRC plus 108 WRC plus 104 WRC plus 103 WRC plus so you pretty much can can lock him in for slightly above League average offense um and then the bags it’s 20 43 and then 31 last year he doesn’t punch which which I love too because I mean the Braves were I think 22nd in strikeout rate last year uh and and you know getting on basis and walking obviously helps you know a good deal too that’s something he hasn’t done as much of the last couple years but I I I I think he wouldn’t be as ridiculously steep because it’s two years of control at about 23 is million year or total total total so about 11 and 12 that feels like a Braves contract yep yeah but Story I mean if he’s free essentially like I can definitely see would the Red Sox eat that much money to send another guy to the Braves maybe they think to themselves no way it happens twice no way no way um the one concern I do have is Nico Herer at the end of the year underwent surgery to repair his right lexer tendon not good that’s a longer throw yeah so that that is a little bit of a concern but I still just think I still think he’s such a good fit yeah I think it’s either P Pi him or or make this trade where you you have him at 11 million 12 million and then you could potentially extend him before he hits free agency that’s that’s Herer um I don’t know where you at because again I think the Cubs are going to move him and the Braves are in an interesting spot where they can off offer I think kind of exactly what the what the Cubs May want right they know the Cubs don’t need upper miners bats I don’t think they’re going to trade Herer for a straight up just Prospect dump of guys from the lower levels like an AJ Smith schaver could end up actually grabbing a rotation spot for the Cubs next year and for the Braves with Strider coming back with the other guys that they’ve got with walr being there that he could be Expendable especially with the way that they’ve handled him they they act like he’s Expendable yeah yeah I think it makes the most sense to trade for Herer because I I just I think Kim is legitimately the best fit but I just I don’t see hon Kim becoming a brave I don’t see it either I Herer I just I I I visualize it also you mentioned and I I think it’s an important point it’s gonna have a lot of suitors and Boris historically not really working that great without alexopoulos it’s one thing if it’s okay there’s only a couple suitors there’s gonna be like a dozen teams I think with interest in Hassan Kim so if that’s the case you want to have a little bit more of a rapport with his agent I feel like when everybody’s trying to get in on the sweep stakes and it’s not like the Braves are then going to be the team to overspend for him right if it all comes down to the other thing bis call anthopolos and says we need five more million he’s gonna be like [ __ ] you and hang up right yeah he’s not going to do any of that so I think the horer trade makes most sense but I am like liking the story move right because let’s say they bring in just a veteran short stop or no they still have Aria that’s the thing it’s like this Braves team if you think that Orlando Aria could put up a 700 Ops right it’s really not asking for much because he’s still a really good Defender then you have Aria and you have the upside of story for nothing yeah I really think it’s gonna cost almost nothing right if they want to take on more money they can really give up like a player to be named later and if they they might be willing to send I don’t know maybe they are interested in an Anderson right as a Reclamation project Red Sox if the Red Sox want to win right now though is is sadon rafhaela playing shortstop for you the the the way you do that I don’t know or the upside of Trevor story as you mentioned yeah because negative seven ounce above average for for rafhaela at shortstop this past year versus five in in center and 12 def defensive run saves in Center like that guy should be in the Outfield more consistently I think I like the idea I just I wonder if the Red Sox what you like story is probably their best bet uh at shortstop until Myers ready who was hurt again at the end of the year yeah let’s trade for horer so it’s a AJ Smith Sher and what I said Jr Richie so J.R Richie was a second round pick came off a TJ looked great this year uh and kind of fits the bill I think of what the the Cubs would like and and at out like a pitching Arsenal Smith schaver like he he’s a guy that I really feel like with the way the Cubs have started to lean further into pitch development and all those things and the Arsenal that he has as well I think they’d love to get their hands on him he’s 22 just turned 22 six days ago by the way which is crazy talk about like Prospect fatigue Happ and yeah happy play today J javer like I I I think this is a really talented arm to be able to get that not is not very often available and then you get Richie on top of that um for the Cubs you know they seem to be very keen on moving herner anyways um Matt Shaw just hit like 800 in the Premier 12 after putting up a ridiculous year like he’s gonna be playing second base for them uh like and he should be opening day so I you address your rotation and then you add more power potentially at second base internally um and if you’re the Cubs like I I think it’s a great move for them too I think we send that move in I think we just covered shorts up niiko Herer welcome to the Atlanta Braves AJ Smith schaver and J Jr Richie welcome to the Chicago cups I think that makes a lot of sense so Outfield we can sign ma Max Kepler if that’s what the reports are like we could dust our hands off and just be like that’s the move or we can bring in Austin hay to platoon with Jared Jared Kellick W give him another chance I know you make that noise right he was terrible with the Phil I know he was very hurt but he also was an Allstar like this guy could potentially if with a change of scenery fully take over that role right and be a starting left fielder just like he was for the Orioles and he was pretty good at that so that was kind of my thinking here I think you’re buying low on a guy who does have some Talent maybe Philly just wasn’t right for him the role wasn’t right for him and maybe a platoon roll isn’t right for him and maybe he needs somewhere where he’s like I’m going to start and that’s better for Austin hay I don’t know but I like that combo but we could just upgrade and go get Max Kepler instead yeah is is Kellick like 25 he’s 25 I can’t get over it he’s only 25 arm you know he’s younger than adley Rutman yeah that’s is funny like he’s younger than adley I mean we just given up on him like I can’t swings too good last 50 games of the Season yeah he’s terrible 164 238 309 slash line not ideal if you start by just righties 181 250 341 slash line so he he can’t hit righties still he’s better yeah against lefties they gave him 16 plate appearances in that span he was 0 for 14 with seven strikeouts Okay so we might we might need to move off of Jared Kellick here we might need to move off Jared Kellick I say let’s sign Max Kepler and make this easy because I think K actually like the fact that he played a good Center like or a fine Center like maybe he’s your fourth outfielder and like then you could still hope like he gets hot and something happens right he’s 25 yeah so I yeah unless you have a better option than Kepler I think it’s a great one yeah I I think Kepler would be the epitome of the resurgent braid yeah that that we see I couldn’t agree more so all right we signed Max Kepler it’s not going to be very expensive multi-year deal maybe yeah two years probably yeah I I don’t even know what yeah what do you think Max Kepler’s that’s one that I have no read on but it’ll be in the Braves price range for sure 100% so we addressed we addressed Outfield we got Max Kepler and we address shortstop we traded for niiko Herer I have two starting pitching options that are really boring but I think make a lot of sense for the Braves so when we look at the Braves rotation you got Strider coming off TJ you got Chris S who’s gonna be 36 years old you got raldo Lopez who has not proven that he can throw a ton of innings right I think in the Innings that he throws he’s going to be pretty solid but I think expecting 180 from raldo Lopez is is is fool’s gold I just don’t I don’t see that happening in his future or maybe he does I don’t know schwell and Bo’s a dog but is he a again is he 180 Innings guy so who do you get 180 Innings out of on this team I want a guy who’s going to eat Innings and at the end of the rotation give up three in six Innings and the Braves score four and you’re gonna win a lot of these starts and I to pitch me on Kyle Gibson I’m about to pitch you on Kyle Gibson Kyle Gibson is a perfect fit and Kyle Gibson goes under the the radar every single year because nobody cares about him he’s 37 years old and he doesn’t throw gas and it’s not like this stuff is that electric but over the past few seasons right in 2023 he put up a 47 not ideal but in 192 Innings he kept the team in the ball game every single time 2024 170 Innings to a 424 the year before that 167 Innings he’s not great but can he replicate what Charlie Morton’s been doing over the past few years maybe he’s a little bit worse than that but he is like a younger version of that I know it’s boring but I think the Braves needed Innings eater and Kyle Gibson’s going to cost almost nothing it’s not like he’s a guy who you unlock more with but again if he can pitch to a mid four in 180 Innings the Braves are gonna win a lot of his starts I think I think it’s a great fit I I do I do like the fit I was going to say either bring back Morton or or go out for a guy that’s going to kind of provide the same thing seem like Morton struggled a little bit to the Finish Line uh and and you know that might be enough for I think the the brave to maybe want to go another Direction um I’m I’m I’m in on that I was gon to say him or you know Lance Lynn um but yeah it’s pretty much the same story right like it’s yeah it’s the exact same pitch so I’m I’m in on Kyle Gibson he also just seems like a brave as well so does Lance Lyn though yeah but I I think Kyle Gibson’s better well and Lynn only threw 117 Innings I agree I I I think you need that Innings eater who’s available and that’s exactly what Gibson’s been so I’m I’m in on that true professional pitcher we talk about professional a or I do professional Abs from guys like that’s a professional pitcher right there one more that I wanted to float to you and this is a guy who I think I’m just GNA float to a lot of teams that need starters I was very intrigued with what Matthew Boyd was doing for Cleveland oh yeah he’s nasty and if there’s any more to unlock there I think he could be a really good starter for a lot of teams and again I’m going to bring him up for a lot I’m not saying the Braves necessarily need to sign him but from what I saw I like what I see I mean he is D out yes I forgot he’s a free agent yeah so he’s a guy who I I would I want a team like the Braves to sign to maybe unlock something else and you can get 130 Innings but it doesn’t really equate to my like Innings eater profile that I want for Atlanta but we’re looking for an upside play I think Matthew Boyd could be your guy I agree with everything that I think there’s better teams for him for that I I I think you go you go uh Anning eater go Kyle Gibson and and they can feel pretty good about the upside but at least have the fall back of someone that’s just gonna keep you in ball games and I think that’s what we do to the rotation yeah we’re gonna get Strider back we got sale we got Lopez we got schwach and we got Kyle Gibson I mean this team won 89 Gam like they won 89 games last year despite not having Ronald aunia when we talked about it when we recapped everything right despite missing so much time from all like all of their key guys Shawn Murphy was pretty much out the whole year I know he played 60 something games but the that oblique thing clearly just just messed him up all year you think Shawn Murphy magically isn’t good after back-to-back five win Seasons I don’t think so like aie Al hurt this is a team that naturally will be better and doesn’t need anything incredibly impactful think and these are already pretty impactful moves with these moves I I think they’re they’re right there with the Padres again and and you know I think the the the biggest threat to the Dodgers trying to repeat out of the National League I couldn’t agree with you more I think this team is absolutely loaded so you good with that we signed Kyle Gibson it’s hard to fix a rotation but I think he’s such a great fit it feels like such a brave especially because they have other options too like if Gibson stinks like okay then try Ian Anderson then try hen wrip like there’s enough other guys where I’m not going to pay up like crazy to to go get another arm in there you’re getting Strider back I mean you’re getting arguably the best pitcher in Major League Baseball I know Paulk and scoble took the World by storm but when strider’s on there’s few better and they get him back adding to chessel this team is going to be so good yep couple of Bullpen moves I really want to bring back AJ M I think he should be a brave for life I AG he shouldn’t go anywhere else I’m with you I think you just bring back Minter and if you and if he’s healthy we’re bringing back Minter one other name again kind of Matthew boydd adjacent just a guy who I’m going to bring up a lot I’d be very interested in bringing in a Jonathan Leisa that seems like are upside nasty when he’s on the problem is he’s been hurt he’s not GNA be very expensive and it’s an upside play like when Leisa is on he can be your eighth inning guy he can be like Joe Jimenez or better or he can close games that’s how good he was thing is perpetually injured I think it’d be a lowcost Braves Type move where you’re betting on some upside here and if you bring Minter and Leisa because again Leisa is not going to cost almost anything yeah I think it’s an easy move that they should make and it feels kind of like a Braves move I like that that does that does feel bravy I I think that’s perfect that’s all they really need to do too because again you’re you’re gonna get himz back at some point tville Hernandez looked really gross they brought him up like Dylan Lee at a 211 Dy Lee was nasty they’ve got guys man so I think that that would make that Bullpen again just just fortified all right so we just played general manager with the Atlanta Braves what did we do traded for niiko horn or addressing the shortstop position Outfield we signed Max Kepler because of the report that says Alex anthopoulos is poking around for left-handed outfielders Max Kepler feels like the definition of poking around for left-handed outfielders or for if whatever reason they decide Kel Nick’s the guy platoon maybe it’s with an Austin hay pick your poison of of a right-handed platoon bat doesn’t really matter there um and then the starting pitching we signed Kyle Gibson one-year deal maybe two but again not expensive will’ll eat a ton of innings and brance I know it sounds boring I’m telling you Kyle Gibson’s gonna go like 14 and nine with you guys like he’s gonna win a bunch of games because he did his job he just kept you in the ball game and let the offense work I love that fit and then in the bullpen bring back Minter sign Jonathan Leisa this team is disgusting y this team is disgusting they easily win the World Series look at this lineup Michael Harrison Center albz at second Riley at third olssen at first Ozuna at DH Max Kepler and left Shawn Murphy at catcher Nico Herer at shortstop and Ronald aunia Jr in right field holy [ __ ] yeah that’s gross and then Strider s schwach raldo Lopez with that Bullpen look out Braves fans before we move on to the Diamondbacks let us know in the comments section of this YouTube video what do you think do you like these moves would you make different ones that’s how we really build playing general manager the feedback from you guys Braves fans maybe fans of the Phillies or fans of the Mets like people who are in tune in this division let us know what you think of those moves and again Cubs fans does that trade make sense for niik horer let us know in the comment section below before we get to the Diamondbacks we’re going to take a quick break all right let’s play Chanel en manager for the Arizona Diamondbacks um you and I texted before uh we were press a record button when we’re obviously doing our prep for this episode and I said I don’t want to do anything to this team this team is loaded and you said right we’re very very aligned here so and I think when we go through this team a lot of fans listening are going to be saying oh [ __ ] this team is really really good but there are a couple of reports there are things that can do um so let’s just look at the offseason moves they really haven’t done anything so far they claimed Seth Martinez from the Astros on waivers he’s a pretty decent reliever for Houston last year adding to the bullpen I like it um Jordan Montgomery Merill Kelly and Au henio Suarez exercises their player option so they will be back um Bob Nightingale did report that the Diamondbacks are shopping Jordan Montgomery Alec Thomas and Jake McCarthy so we could talk about a couple of moves for them um in terms of the stats right this offense was unbelievably great yep they were fantastic they were second in Ops and fifth in home runs 15th in stolen bases which shocked me with Arizona I’d expect them to be first but whatever right they still have a ton of speed there was a couple of guys injured notably Corbin Carroll who could steal 60 but he didn’t right the offense is great it was the best offense in the second half in Major League Baseball I know that sounds crazy because he got the Dodgers and he got the Padres and you got the Yankees they were number one in WRC Plus in the second half starting pitching though is where it bit him 27th in ra 25th in Whip and the bullpen was the opposite 25th in ra 27th in whip so you think we have to address pitching but we’ll look so some of the outstanding free agents Christian Walker who we all expect to leave Josh Bell maybe they bring him back but havav Smith at first might have won the job with how great he was like last year putting up a 142 WRC plus Kevin Newman is gone he signed with the Angels Paul sewald is likely going to be gone as well and jock Peterson Randall gritch both declined their Mutual options both of them likely gone um any reaction to what I’ve said so far before we talk about needs no I mean that the offense is is loaded uh and we knew that and like the fact that they won 89 games despite how bad their their first half was with a lot of their players and most notably Corbin Carroll uh I think says a lot about how good this team is and I mean over 162 they were better than they were the year that they made that Miracle run so uh I mean this team has a lot of things in a good place already the the one challenge here is that the reports are that they you know don’t really want to increase payroll like that they’re kind of where they’re at so if you want to sign somebody you’re going to have to try to unload as much of Jordan Montgomery’s contract as possible and that’s the challenge in this whole thing uh but like I’m glad you mentioned paven Smith because like people would say oh they’re losing Christian Walker well first base might be an open spot I I I kind of buy what paven Smith did last year the thing is is he was mostly playing Corner Outfield so I know first base defense isn’t that important but like how comfortable are they with him playing first uh that’s an interesting wrinkle but I think paven can be a guy for sure but I think he also just further makes that McCarthy trade rumor and everything you know make a lot more sense where I I I think he’s definitely heading heading out the door yeah and let’s say they do need a first baseman I mean we could bring back Josh Bell who is great for them right found a little home in Arizona so if if you are a little bit worried it’s not like Josh Bell though is gonna provide much defensive Acumen at first base buying the I’d rather just see what paven could do at that point me too so that’s not one of my needs I didn’t even write down first base did you write it down no I I I I the only thing I put was you know if they don’t have confidence in paven Smith at first you could go get a Carlos Santana um if we free up some money here and then kind of have things revolving with the DH Corner Outfield and everything but like if paven Smith just grinds first base this off season feel like he should be able to handle it round do it first round pick back in 2017 this guy can rake he just hasn’t gotten his you know his Lane yet and and I think his Lane can be first base and after what he put up offensively last year I’m buying it so I about ball dat like I I really the contact rates the EVS like everything looks good something clicked for him last year um and so you’re just hoping that the the first base defense can come along but I really do think he can maintain what he did last year um obviously not a 142 but I think he could be a solid solid hitter so before we even move on we good yeah I I say say we leave it I say we leave first basee yeah I say we leave it as well um so I looked at Three Needs I would like them to add more to the bullpen but I don’t want them to add you know Big Time four-year deal type Bullpen arms just some veterans mix them in right I even thought about why don’t they sign Blake trinon or kirby8 maybe they’d even be a little bit too expensive but I love a veteran right-handed pitcher in this in this fold um especially after losing Paul sewald and sewald wasn’t very good for them but I I like the idea of Tran a guy who former Dodger good against the Padres in that division knows both teams I like that addition a lot I don’t know how expensive he is going to be and then Kirby a was just flat out fantastic for Texas last year so right now they have Justin Martinez as the Clos ER he certainly has closer stuff the dude throws fuzz 102 sinkers I mean he’s disgusting and maybe he’s just a closer and we do that thing again where it’s like that or maybe he struggles a little bit that’s very reasonable for a reliever no matter how good your stuff is yeah and then is it dinkle is it Puck I don’t know if those are closers I think those are just very good relievers so that’s why I’d want a trr or a kirby8 where they’re very good relievers they’re Dependable they obviously have been around the block they can close if Martinez just isn’t quite there yet or they can be your seventh eighth inning guy and just be really really good so that’s why I lean towards the direction of Veteran righties who I feel safe about yeah no I I like that I think Tran makes a lot of sense I I wonder what he would cost you know given injury history but then also how good he looked you know when he came back if that’s a guy that the Dodgers are just going to try to to to bring back but I think he’s a great fit Martinez is definitely a guy that I think is best suited in the eth you know in the seventh and eighth and he’s gross but you know they get a little erratic and we saw like sometimes it would snowball on him in in high high leverage so I think they’d probably want to go into the year with a different option there um and someone else that they could probably trust in high leverage also before I forget I do want to do one thing at first base I forgot Paul goldshmid can we just bring in Paul gold Schmid as an insurance policy and a platoon guy at first is that what goldmit wants to do be an insurance policy platoon bat I mean he’s not that bad who’s who’s who’s putting him at first base the Angels they got noan shanwell baby I was just making fun of the Angels like I always love to um yeah I mean when you go around the league who would sign Paul goldshmid um I just someone’s going to be like Paul Goldman’s going to be our starter somebody’s going to do that and I just I understand the you know lore of going back to the team that you started with but I don’t know it makes sense that it would make me happy I cannot fathom a team not giving him starting money and him finding a home even potentially on a multi-year deal I I I get where you’re coming from I I can’t imagine it I just can’t I hope I hope he does I hope he gets a shot to me he’s at the Lefty platoon stage of his career uh but sometimes those guys get you know a full starter gig opportunity elsewhere so if if you think that’s the case like I that’s fine I I I I just want I want this to be the offseason of players returning home no I agree that’s that’s the one thing I was really excited about Sherer and and Verlander as well I don’t think any of them are going to end up happening now but yeah if if you think he’s going to get a starter job somewhere else then that Prime makes more sense um but I mean if you move Jake McCarthy you still have Alec Thomas in in the corner so paven Smith would still kind of be you have Lis gel in the other corner but he could DH then you could have paven Smith in the other Outfield corner so it could still kind of work where you’re getting Goldie enough playing time but I if he’s gonna be more than $5 million I don’t think the Dbacks would do it anyways I think you bring back Josh Bell if you want to do something like that because I don’t think Josh Bell is going to be expensive I like the fact that he can switch hit give him a little bit more versatility there he can hit lefties as well from the right side so you can have that sort of platoon and then you can move paven Smith to the Outfield and then Josh Bell can play more first base as well and he was just so good for them last year like I like the fit there and at that point it’s like do you just roll with what you got then and just save the money and allocate that towards Bullpen since you’re kind of working on like confines here of not wanting to up the payroll from ownership presumably also don’t like do you understand the report of wanting to trade McCarthy and Alec Thomas like I kind of get it but I kind of one of them one of them yeah yeah um one of just because especially if they feel like McCarthy kind of had a bit of a fever dream season and I know he had a good year a few years ago as well but the bad at ball markers like he hits the ball very very soft and like he’s got to be so perfect to be as productive as he was and he was but I think he’s just always going to kind of be that streaky type of guy Thomas can play a better center field I think he’s a little bit more Dynamic um and can give you a little bit more power it’s just about the health with him too so I can see wanting to move McCarthy and cash in at this point because when you’re looking at the Outfield it’s GNA be Thomas in one spot Carol in the other and then you have Lis Cel who’s going to DH slti another you know Outfield spot you’re you’re pretty good out there overall and you know it’s kind of the same thing with the Don Fletcher situation they cashed in got a decent pitching Prospect obviously McCarthy’s better uh but you know I could see them kind of doing the same thing all over again but here’s the same thing though it’s like Lordi scuel Jr would be let’s say um let’s say he’s dhing more then who’s going to play The Outfield too like that’s why I feel like Jake McCarthy it’s Alec Thomas it’s it’s Corbin Carroll and then who in yeah then I guess you could go paven Smith um and then that’s where you’d probably want a first baseman to me it’s like if they’re moving mcarthy that almost makes me feel like they would go outside for first base help then and put yeah Haven in a corner I have more faith in Pen’s bat going in the next year as crazy as in my town than McCarthy’s bat me too definitely so obviously McCarthy gives you other things but they also have the speed in defense everywhere else so yeah I guess if that’s what we’re doing here if we are moving McCarthy and buying into that narrative which I do think there’s a lot of validity to then we probably do have to address first base but then that would be a pretty regular opportunity for Paul gold Schmid where he could maybe have this career Resurgence where he was one of the best players in baseball and then you still have the Lefty and paven Smith who can play first yes I think we’ve figured something out here I think I like it I think we signed Paul goldshmid and trade McCarthy yes and then you can get either some Bullpen help some prospects something with McCarthy or you could attach him to Jordan Montgomery in a salary dump I have one trade with him going to the Yankees in a salary dump talk to me what do you got so I got Jordan Montgomery and Jake McCarthy to the Yankees for everon Pereira and Scott FR Ross but the Yankees eat the majority of the J money no no I’m not doing that eat two3 of the jmont money no Pereira like I don’t want to trade fros I want to see fros on this [ __ ] team like he’s really good when he’s on he’s just always they were just he was rotten in Triple A I know I can’t maybe that’s me more liking Scott fros and the market not really agreeing with me I pra and fros in exchange for McCarthy and Jordan Montgomery the Diamondbacks would just have to eat all of that money in order for us to do that not all of it but like 80% of it 80% of it yeah because pery I know but Pereira is still a pretty good Prospect I know that he’s you know he came up and he wasn’t that great but I know you still like him I know you’re still holding that hope for him so you’re getting a pretty good Prospect and for Jake McCarthy like there are there are some concerns I think that makes more sense if the Yankees don’t get Wan sto I think if the Yankees do get Wan stto I don’t see them being in the market for potentially a guy like Jake McCarthy or maybe they are right if it’s you know you’re almost hedging a Dominguez in a way which I totally understand um someone worse than Pereira then I I that was just one of the salary dump situations it’s hard to imagine many teams being willing to take on jmont and no one’s going to take on the entirety of it I think the Dbacks are prepared to eat just Mony want to go back to the Yankees he might not have a choice I don’t know you would know better about how that ended than me yeah I mean I don’t I I never fully read into it at the time um so that’s on me like I don’t I know he was like shocked though like or whatever it was yeah I remember you know I I I don’t know exactly how that ended but maybe he’d be fine with it and who knows I mean he he did have some really good years with the Yankees so I I could see that happening I’m I’m open to that idea you could dump to the Blue Jays who seemingly want to spend money I don’t know why like that’s a team that for whatever reason wants to spend um I’d support it obviously but then when you look around other than that there’s not a lot of teams that are it would have to be a bad contract swap of some sorts if you’re G to try to move off with the jmont money or you’re just gonna have to eat two-thirds of it and and hope a team you know is is going to give you a decent Prospect back in return I just don’t know how many teams out there would do that I think the blue JS do make a lot of sense though for the sake of the argument oh how would you then trade him to the Blue Jays let’s say you say that makes more sense like would they want a jake McCarthy in this deal ra uh I mean there Nathan Lucas was pretty good I guess at 30 last year they got a lot of left-handed hitters out there they got bar in center but like how much do you trust like Springer they did do go get Jonathan class I probably would be not attaching McCarthy and it would be more of like eating some of the money and just getting like a whatever Prospect back I would imagine I just also don’t know if the Yankees want drone Montgomery I don’t like I think if they’re in the starting pitching Market I think they’re going to be after the burns the freed um the Blake snells of the world like do they need another Marcus strowman adjacent type pitcher and strowman’s better right is that what they need like not really they need a stud they have depth they need a stud and I just Jordan montgom is not that anymore so do we think that they might just be stuck with Jordan Montgomery I think they’re stuck with Jordan Montgomery and I’m honestly fine with like I know they’ve publicly said everything and he’s publicly said I I think any move that you’re gonna end up making of Jordan Montgomery is just gonna end up being so forced that you’re gonna have and think about it so much why would you trade him now why don’t you let him get run in the regular season let’s say he puts up a then you trade him yeah leg get some of the value back because you’re just trading him at the lowest value so I think there’s stuck with jmon and I think that just a trade for Jake McCarthy is just what they should do and I think even sending him to the Yankees right I wrote that in my article that I think if the Yankees don’t get Juan stto I think relying on Jason Dominguez right you know he’s probably going to get the run but he’s still really young he did show anything last year so I think if you want to win a World Series banking on a guy that young to just be your starter all year I don’t love so to get a jake McCarthy he’s almost like if you combine Verdugo and Grisham into one player yeah and it’ll probably give you verdugo’s bat with grisham’s defense and center and then you have that and you the Yankees were sign like a sandera teoscar Hernandez then you have Jake McCarthy as a fourth out Fielder but also a replacement for Dominguez if things aren’t going well and then I think of for Everson Pera so I had two other swaps with McCarthy just by himself to the Pirates okay Carman mosinski because he’ll just help that middle relief side of things Mike Burrows would give them some some starting pitching depth as well a guy that you I think is healthy and either could be starting pitching depth or also be moved to the bullpen and be a Swingman type or whatever and then Lonnie white is a filler I think we do that I love the fit and Pittsburgh better they need a center fielder yeah get get like they have O’Neal Cruz there if you want to keep trying that fine I forgot about that but even then dude like you can play the corner yeah get some better guys in the corner yes I don’t want to see the the defensive layout like I don’t want Brian Reynolds in a corner anymore like it was brutal so he fits I think he fits fantastic out there they have so many arms obviously barose is Big Le ready now and healthy he gives the the dback some starting pitching depth they get a reliever and and I think it’s a great move for both sides love it I think we do that for the Pirates I think we tra trade Jake McCarthy to the pirates for Mike Burrows and we sign Paul goldshmid and we say Goldie this is your lane you’re G to be the starter right and when we need to give you time off we can put paven Smith there and we’ll be fine yep so while we did trade Jake McCarthy do we need an ad an outfielder now they added Tim tawa to the 40-man roster who actually had a pretty solid year so um they have Jorge baroso who had a bad year but I actually think is is a good fourth outfielder potentially phenomenal Defender and then you have Alec Thomas I think they’re okay okay I think they’re okay and don’t forget like Jordan Lawler is also giving them some depth in the infield as well like they’ve got a lot of backs that they gotta kind of account for in general so I think we kind of handled the offense and the bullpen already should we say we signed Blake TR obviously it’s hypothetical I if they have the money but I guess we can I mean we can push them at that but we’re not telling them to 100 million I was to say David Robertson like how much how much is the difference gonna be there he’s hundred yeah he he’s actually 40 but he’s still good he is he is still quite good I I think it’s very important to have a guy that could close like that can pitch the ninth and as much as I think that that there’s like some variance there like they need a guy that can pitch the nine I I think think you you Pony up for trying they run that up to you run that up to ownership and say hey like we can take this guy from the Dodgers like you know even if they’re letting him walk but like we can we can upgrade our Bullpen here maybe you can get that one approved um from the folks up top so I think with Puck and Martinez that back end of the bullpen and Kinkle that’d be disgusting disgusting so and we also signed Goldy maybe take a little bit of a discount but he is the starter now Hometown discount so we addressed first base we also traded Jake McCarthy to the Pirates and we got another pitcher here and so the last thing to address is the starting rotation I don’t want to do anything to it even though they finished 27th in ra i i there’s nothing you can fix here it’s just it’s it has to F fix itself and they have a new pitching coach and you hope that he can help too exactly because Eduardo Rodriguez you know we make fun of him sometimes he’s been one of those guys on the show and it mostly comes from our guy Colby Olson who’s a huge Red Sox fan and we would make fun of him because he would call Eduardo Rodriguez an Ace and we’d be like he’s a three and then Jack had that hilarious bit where it’s like none of his none of his pitches are any good it’s a big long running joke but eduard Rodriguez is objectively a good pitcher and he’s not going to put up a five ER in 50 Innings anymore I don’t think coming back Dre Jameson coming back is huge I I really like what I saw before he went down Ryan Nelson in the second half was one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball the vert on his fastball he was he was just like I dare you to hit the fast ball and nobody could hit it and Brandon fought seeing that he finished with a 47 I’m like no he didn’t you lied to me stats like no way but he just didn’t have I don’t know just it was a snowball thing sometimes in some of his starts like he’s way better than that I will stand on that way better than that I agree with that I agree with that and then of course gallon you expect him to bounce back Merill Kelly it was the worst year Merl Kelly’s had in a long time you could say he’s aging blah blah blah I he’s not a guy that I think necessarily needs to be 100% to be throwing and like the vo was right where it normally is I just think he was banged up and couldn’t really get um you know some momentum going he’s gonna be better than 73 Innings at a 4 it’s just there there’s no way I think is every single guy gonna bounce back maybe not but I have faith in the majority of them bouncing back he didn’t even mention jammon if they do hold on to him and again you’re getting Jameson back as well so I I I’m with I I think you got to have faith in this group just getting better from within and they are I still think it’s a great group I think the rotation that they have formed is still very very solid and if Jordan Montgomery bounces back and he’s at a 4-2 ra I mean that’s another really good pitcher yeah another really good pitcher to have so and then if Tre Jameson takes that next step I mean you go seven deep you just got to hope they bounce back so that’s it yeah I’m with you I don’t think they need much more than that and that’s team that I think can compete with just about anybody right this isn’t an MLB the Show podcast where we’re like you know what they could use they kind of need an outfield let’s get them Juan SoDo no we we operate within the constraints that these teams you know over time have showed you know their hand on how they operate and also looking at new reports to see what they might do this year because the television rights battle continues right A lot of these teams are getting crushed by this so you know constraints in the payroll are certainly real but this team is still loaded right so just to go over it again Corbin Carolyn right catel Marte at second Jake McCarthy is now gone in left I’m gonna put paven Smith there lordis gel Jr DH Suarez at third gold Schmid at first Gabby Moreno at catcher Pomo at short and then of hopefully Jordan Lawler can be there but regardless like short Stop’s kind of taken care of there and then you got Alec Thomas right and then the rotation is what it was last year and now the bullpen is Blake Trent I mean this team can compete with anybody this offense is great they do the little things right I think the pitching is going to be better I’m really excited for Arizona playing general manager for these two teams I’m hyped I mean these two team voted yeah you’re taking over a pretty pretty fortunate situation so um yeah it’s fun just kind of doing the small little things here and and and just trying to put them over the top and I think both these teams with some sort of moves along those lines are are in a very very good spot going in the next year so that’ll do it for playing general manager for the Atlanta Braves and the Arizona Diamondbacks again the best way to support this show without spending a singular dime we really really appreciate it folks leaving a
