hello everyone and a warm welcome along to Robins TV extra time where we took take a look back at Sunderland 1 Bristol City 1 at the stadium of Lights in the company of Leroy Ria and Lewis Kerry well a points and a good response guys from the defeat at fratton Park we’re going to look back at some of the clips now where do you think Liam Manning will look at in terms of what went right and what went wrong I think conceding three away from home on Saturday and the man in which you con seeed the three goals um it was a totally different performance so it was not so much um short passes playing into Midfield it was a lot more longer passes in the first half um and there was more aggression in the second half than there was in the first half so he would have wanted to keep a clean sheet that’s what they nearly did until the last minute um and they limited um soly Lear to minimal chances in on goal you know and flying high at the minute fourth in the league so it would have been an excellent result but he would have wanted more aggression he said it wasn’t acceptable on Saturday and it wasn’t and himself and the fans would have expected more and to see the performance that they did to dig in um and earn a one-1 draw away from home in the championship I thought was an excellent defensive performance yeah and it will be over 30 years since Sunderland last beat Bristol City up in the Northeast Leroy let’s look at the stats from the game as you’d expect the home side had more of the possession but what stands out well in terms The Possession you know I was surprised because the start of the second half I thought you know City kind of dominated the game but then they dropped off and then Sun had a lot more of the ball expected goals is a surprise because you know City’s .45 that doesn’t surprise me but the you know the 1.23 suggests that they had a couple of good chances but they all kind of had people in between them and the goal when they were taking those opportunities some great blocks from from City players um and then obviously I need the two shots on target for city five for uh for Sunland um yeah look but I just thought it was a really good defensive uh performance and I love that stat near the bottom Jules won 59 that showed that that they were really up for it you know key key moments because in the first half you saw sunon wanted to pull the ball down all the time and they did they did it quite successfully first 20 minutes but as soon as City got to grips with them they stopped him pulling pulling the ball down in in dangerous areas so really pleased with that with that St for City only two off sides in the game which shows I guess how sort of intricate Sunderland were and you know they weren’t necessarily playing the ball particularly direct whereas obviously City brought in Sinclair Armstrong into the side came off in the second half but we can look in the first half the first set of clips about how they tried to get him into the game and also how Midfield tried to swarm around those sort of more intricate key players for sundland in the liks of Joe Bellingham Chris rig who were obviously bright in that first 45 well the plan was yeah to to win the ball in transition and play forward and you see here as mcra plays forward early and then Sinclair Armstrong makes that run forward again they’re in good shape they get back good pressing from the front to the back they swarm around the ball and then as soon as they win the ball they’re looking to play forward and yeah I just thought at times when they looked up to play forward sin Clair arms some wasn’t in quite the right position again it goes in in the Midfield and they get round dude Bellingham is’s really dangerous when he gets the ball in these areas and just here you see not looking for him and he’s not quite got there early enough you know and and he’s under pressure he need I thought he just needed to be ballside more to allow that ball to go ex actually you know in that middle third you need to almost run in the corners you know because you’re not going to getting on goal further up the pitch you know Lewis was absolutely right he shter runs but in that Middle Field when your players are under pressure just run towards the corner and or pin yourself up against the the center half CU I just thought the two Center halfes was too comfortable them to bring the ball down and get sunon on the front foot again has a former Center half Lewis what did you make of that first 45 minutes obviously Dan Ballard Chris meam very good players at at that level and they seemed to be pretty comfortable in that first 45 they did they’re very open EXP when they’re with the ball so with the fullbacks being so high the spaces were down the sides of the center backs um but like Leroy just touched on it’s either too late too early he didn’t quite get the timing right but again he hasn’t been in the side for a little while but it was an obvious game plan when we win the ball we’re going to play forward quickly now the only thing I would say is that it was probably coming too far away from Bristol City’s game model and I felt like the players maybe at times got a little bit confused of playing forward too quick too often um or didn’t quite have the timing right between you know passer and um Armstrong himself it was goalless at the break and that was probably fair but also dependent on some wonderful defending from Bristol City we touched on the center halfes for Sunderland and well the center halfes for City last night were uh were excellent weren’t they they certainly were you know they they you know Dicky M MCN you know they got into good areas you know and they dropped deep you know you they were in good shape it’s a lot easier for Defenders you know Le this when you got plays you’re in a good position you’re coming from an area where you’re comfortable at this is where they weren’t in such a good position and he’s on a one one-onone and I love this absolutely love this use your body to defend again get off that’s what that is and that’s great defending and that’s upper body strength you know that’s why you go in the gym as a center half you use your body as soon as you make body contact use your strength and that’s not a foul that’s good defending just out out muscled isor on that occasion uh and here you see he gets back I I you know he’s trying to he’s trying to defend the cup back there and he sticky who defends the six yard line but what he does he recovers really well with a super block and then stands up and is aware of what’s going on around him no Panic in his defending Le he defends he defends as goal doesn’t he you see too many center backs sprinting out now towards the um you know towards the wing he defends the middle of the pitch defends the goal and I just love the fact he makes himself big with the challenges without his arms being you know flung everywhere but I thought he was outstanding or again I really I really enjoyed watching Sunderland first half this is the type of football I like it was just in and around the box I felt they were a little bit too Tippy tappy and didn’t really get shots off that allowed City Defenders but in these sort of areas mcnali and dicki on the front foot intercepting were excellent and again it was to start off the attacks and to find those spaces then aside of the center backs and to put balls in the box and make things happen but they just didn’t quite get um any rhythm to their game with the ball in in the first half but again defensive considering how much ball sundland had I thought they were really um organized composed and um disciplined when defending the goal yeah you said Luke Manali outstanding and he scored the opening goal uh with a very very calm finish it was really bright start to that second half couple of changes made at the interval far more sort of progressive and energetic and it just felt like a goal was coming and well it might have been an unlikely Source 7 he the second of the season but very very composed I thought earthy and Bell just changed the game it started the second half um and then Wells come on and he added the energy as well so if you look here the the the key the key Parts here first half City we just kicking the ball whereas here that’s a lovely little chip pass in behind the defense that are coming up nice run for Murphy and Wells and then they’re aggressive there Zach V keeping it in play but it’s the touch and then as we touched on in commentary it’s the high finish so anything in around the shoulder uh you know the shoulder area of the goalkeepers they find hard to they find hard to defend and also if he drills the ball low there’s enough legs in the way to make blocks whereas he goes High um less body parts for the Defenders little hands behind their backs it’s just an excellent finish excellent really um composed finish yeah I love that the ball was played back you know it just annoyed me sometimes when you have a corner it ends up that you’re you’re goalkeeper you know and and you’ve got you got Center H and Center has at it they’ve run all that way for ball to be delivered you know MTI delivers the first one it’s not a great cross but they allow to up there and BRS plays a lovely ball forward and he’s got you’ve got that quality instead of going Sav back to your goalkeeper and then saying oh let’s spread out again got the bodies in there already let’s try and get a run of attacks and they did that and uh that is a really good finish and Lewis is actually spot on you know with Hume on the line he’s got his hands on his back CU he’s waiting to to clear off the line he’s expecting it to be just dribble towards him or just knock towards him at PACE the only place he can score his Ro than there he did it brilliantly home crowd were getting frustrated but they were still obviously pressing forward City probably the better side in that kind of 15 20 minutes the start of the second half and then Sunderland just started to get back into the game again and again it was more strong defensive work wasn’t it we saw Zack Viner there up at in the attack but he was uh forced to defend here and again it’s the center halfes covering and and looking after each other look sunon got some good players uh and and the thing was City shape was really good because you drop back in and then as soon as one was beaten the next man was there then and the distances were really good again here n’s got into a really good position defending the cut back the two Center dropped in to defend the goal and and and night he just don’t you see just in there that’s that’s a really good position really good position and you know what it looked like they were enjoying defending you know and and and the longer it went on you just felt look all the bodies around there and and I know people think oh they’re three yards out but Max didn’t have anything to do you know yeah in the all these clips you know Max hasn’t really had had to make a save this is this is the best one I think because for center halfes for the for that one a lot of Center halfes get drawn to the first ball you know and he reads it and thinks I’m not going to get that one so he actually backtracks doesn’t he for the second one and he could have got drawn to that first one back TRS and just gets a the slights of touches on it to take away from my Enda that was excellent defending from Dicky Lewis and from had a chance with 15 minutes to go and again you know that city were a threat at this stage still they were they were more composed with how they found each other so here Max it’s an it’s an early throwout um really confident play always putting um Defenders on the back foot he always got this little shift and shoot but there’s this little touch he has just after he has his little shift in size he has another little touch and I think that’s the one that then takes the moment away so if he if he has this touch shift shoot now okay but once he has that extra little touch I think earthy then is on for the pass because all it’s um that extra little touch has drawn the defenders in however you know scoring six goals being the top goal scorer so far this season I understand how he’s or why he’s taken the shot on you know the goal away at Norwich and the couple recently um I do understand however I think again there’s situations not just finishes the game um you know there’s 35,000 there we can hear the booze at the time because they weren’t getting the ball for a quick enough Sunderland and I think that would have just finished the game off yeah they own that they ear that chance you knew it was going to going to come the Defenders really well and you know Max has got the ball great throw out and you can see that the Sun the rope and they put they put players forward and they bombing forward and San Bells used his bace to to get into that situation and that’s where City have to be more clinical you know because it was just those you know we were talk about moments in games and you can see his frustration because I think he realized that was a that was decided that go that goes in game done three points done dusted you had to concentrate so hard during the game because like you said sunon got some nice players on the ball intricate they played well in and around the Bo and they they stood fast until what 92nd minute yeah and you know Le to tell you that sometimes you’re playing a game and you know you’re going to suffer and city had suffer right up to this point they defended really well they got plenty of bodies behind the ball it’s just that the run in behind they just drop a little bit deep and he finds a pocket of space look it’s a terrific finish I think that the Finish is an incredible finish but is a it’s like the old Aguero finish that anytime you’re in this part of the pitch you’re going to play high to the goalkeepers near post cuz they can’t save it the goalkeeper can’t get up there cuz they naturally squat down um and is a lovely pick out a composed pick out considered it’s 92nd minute of the game um the only thing would say is like Leroy touched on just after commentary is how Roberts runs off the back of Defenders and then midfielders don’t slide to closer space that’s the only probably um disappointment in that situation but overall I’d probably say it was a fair a fair result in they have Got Talented players sundland however he limited them to limited chances yeah so obviously Jason Knight was there Hayden Roberts was there there was that distance do you think just that little sense of danger just unfortunately wasn’t there with obviously Jason Knight moves across slightly and then it’s it’s it’s five margins you you know in the bux I said all their distances were great as soon as someone got beat you know someone was there the problem was and knew managed to get his head up and S and in those situations it’s like you’re working so hard you’re trying to get back in you know it’s only two minutes ago so you’re working they’ve actually worked a little bit too hard you know like nighty picked up the the the one before where where rig got in on on the cut back but he’s working so hard and if he just holds his position just has a little look but it’s it’s out of it’s a determination to to succeed and and it’s kind of played against you because they’ve gone two yards too deep and allowed that space for Patrick Roberts I got to be honest I didn’t see it coming I thought the defending had been so heroic it just seemed to sap the energy out of you know the the home fans a few of them were leaving by by that point but they nearly took all three sundland I mean you can see why they’re undefeated at home they they’re resilient aren’t they they draw a lot of games you were saying Lewis you know is it six in the last eight now but they could have snatched all three had it not been for Max o yeah I can definitely see how they you know don’t score too many goals and also draw a lot of games but when you’re on a um I suppose a high of scoring the with with two minutes go all of a sudden you just start throwing balls in the box and stressing the opposition and Defenders just switch off that Split Second and for a center half with this clever little flick but Center half reads it really well but also so does Max if you see he’s on the front foot times his jump well and gets a lovely little finger tip to TI Over the Bar yeah I love that save because it’s not about you know a typical goalkeeper save it’s just anticipation it’s just reading what’s going to happen and he just jumps a split second later than Bella a lot of keepers have just be waiting there but he actually right I’ve got to anticipate this and he jumps up and his time is absolutely it’s it’s a really really good save by Max yeah great timing I think that’s a good word to use um it takes City to Ashton gate next 11th in the table Queens part Rangers the visitors on Saturday 12:30 kickoff how do you see this one leis I think the games that I’ve seen at home that City have struggled in is when teams sit in you have to try and break them down and move the ball bit like what Sun had to do this evening however when when teams have a go and they can counter into space I’ve been more impressed with them so far this season so I’m not sure what QPR are turn up at the moment you know the position in the league we saw Saturday with Portsmouth they turn you over 3-0 so position in the league doesn’t mean anything in the championship however um what I saw of QPR last year I still seen them being quite an open expansive team so I think the game’s going to suit um brus in my you know predict their home win good three of the next four at home Leroy all against sides you know half of the table chance to get those back to back wins that we we’re all craving exactly I speaking to a c fan um yesterday and he’s I think they won 3-0 that the week he’s raving about a young lad who’s coming to side got a couple of goals I said I was asked what he like what’s he like he sent it Forward he said no he’s more like a number 10 so he said they found some confidence so I think it’s going to be a difficult game by fantasy City to get the win good Stu thanks ever so much for
