wasted a great opportunity to to get a win um great defensive effort for most of the day opportunities on offense um and uh very similar to last year and probably years previous found a way to lose the game at the end so unbelievably disappointing you know at the half we really just kind of said three things make sure we keep tackling number two win the turnover battle and don’t give up uh don’t give up a big play on special teams because we had some close ones in the first half all three happened caused us to lose the game so um you know disappointed kind of kind of probably more than disappointed right now kind of angry about what just happened credit to them you know those guys they’ve won a long time they believe they they they make the plays all the way to the very end and uh we got to catch them you know we got to catch them and um uh we haven’t caught them yet so um in terms of finding a way to finish games so um I uh feel for our seniors um I know how badly they want to get this done we didn’t get it done so with that I’ll take your questions the impact of special teams could you elaborate on that the impact in the loss yeah you know um the first punt return they had a big punt return you know I think we slowed down because we thought he had made a fair catch signal um but you made a nice return um but obviously you know the um the fumbled down at the three yd line um unfortunate um the bad snap on the field goal you know we kick field goals pretty early pretty well right and then uh the bad you know bad snap on the field goal so those those two plays hurt us did you feel did you feel on offense you just you had those opportunities they just SLI away yeah we moov the ball right down the field at the end of the at the end of the at the start of the first half and you know Come Away with no points you know second and one you know we call the over route we got to catch that ball and go score I mean it’s going to be a touchdown so um you know there were some opportunities there you know versus a good defense to make the play to win the game and uh even that you know that that last drive we drove it all the way down you know we um had chances didn’t didn’t convert you know they started playing some two man on us just Manning everyone up you know trying to force Dylan to run and um you know he did made it made one nice run and uh um ped the ball down you know got the ball back did everything you’re supposed to do and and uh um got the ball knocked out of our hands you know we struggled versus their Edge rushers today um pretty much from the first you the first quarter to that last quarter you know they um the two Edge rushers you know really really really were was a match up we struggled with today is there when is there something that you feel like you got you guys got to keep working on as it relates to two-minute drills and the game situations now we just got to get better honestly like um like you know at the end of the day like like they won the one-on-one match up like they they turned the corner and beat us you know I mean we just got to get better like um you know five minutes left whatever it was you know Dana second and one like you know I’m used to running the ball there he calls a play action pass we drop it like I mean we just got to get better I mean and not s like we’re not doing the right things you know I mean um we had some opportunities even in that two-minute drill you know but uh um when you get into those those situations you know really really who wins the offensive line or the defensive line that determines the game right so so for us like our defensive line they had the ball in the two- minute drill our defensive line won but the difference was they you know they caused a sack fumble right and so we put the ball on the ground three times in the fourth quarter EMT put one down we we got on it Dylan put two down so um you know we’ve got to uh we got to we’ve got to just get better and uh um be able to just Stone those guys right and make the play to win the game and um we we didn’t do that how do you how do you going into that two-minute drill 142 left through the 20 what’s the balance there that you go into that drive with as far as managing the need to win but also not to make a mistake that you the game yeah I don’t I mean I don’t I don’t know any I don’t know that you can ever win by saying hey I don’t want to make a mistake right I think I think the one thing you can do is say hey we’re not going to go three out in 12 seconds right so you’re trying to get a complete get the first first down um but you know I mean I mean at the end of the day if they’re going to turn the corner Ben sack fumble I mean it doesn’t matter what you you know what you do right I mean so so we were calling some chips and some things in those situations um you know but uh um yeah I mean I you know at the end of the day we got to go try to win you know we got to go push the ball down there so again the whole thought process was get the first first down but um even if we didn’t even if we had to punt you we were going to punt the ball back to their side of the field I mean at the end of the day they they had one explosive play probably the whole day in the passing game and that was a screen you know three guys bounced off them so um you know he’s an excellent player but we know we I thought we shut him down for most of the day so um just uh unfortunate you know turn of events I know it’s frustrating but I mean speak to the defensive game plan it really did take him away all but one play of the game what did you guys do and how did you like you guys generally play well you know I mean um I thought the defense played excellent until you know until well really that one play I mean even the ball was turned over on on the three yard line I mean they played their tails off you know they had a 10 nothing lead um you know but uh you know at the end of the day we had to do what they did you know they shut us out in the second half and that’s what we had to do we had to make that tackle and um so sometimes sometimes you know today’s world we live in a world where it’s like well we did all this but so it’s this team’s fault but like you have a 10- nothing lead with our defense you got to put the the game away like you’re hoping to score some more points on offense but you know you got to put the game away and you can’t miss those tackles and have him take off for a touchdown so um you know with all that being said they did get the ball back and gave us a chance to go score but you know L literally you know at halftime you know we said to them keep tackling number two you know he’s what they have no special teams errors are going to result in you know penalty there were some other balls early in the game that were close you know we’re down some guys at corner so we had some young guys out there at times and um um unfortunately that play happened so yeah it’s uh the def defense played really well for most of the game the the punt play it was kind of wonky because it didn’t hit igc bounced is is anybody doing the wrong thing there really or was it just kind of bad luck uh you know I don’t really believe in bad luck so you know I mean if uh if you’re those guys and you think um you have to go back and see if you know if igc yel poison y poison those guys should run off the field if they run off the field nothing you know nothing happens you know if they do they could hit him then they obviously should go fight for the ball right so um just you kind of a kind of a tough play a tough Break um at the end of the day you know we don’t want to run up to the ball and then jump away at the last second you know either we’re we’re poisoned we’re getting away from the ball you know and kind of you know they they’re they’re a really good punting team but the way the punting was going today that’s why we put igc in there because you know we were having to run forward you know jakori caught the first one going to the ground so it was going to be like a pooch punt fair Catch game so we put igc in there for that reason and um um you know he wants to communicate very early either I’m going to get to that ball and catch it fair catch it or I’m going to get away from it and part of my job of getting away from is making sure everyone else gets away from it so if anything you know that last second jumping away from the ball I don’t know you know those guys you know I don’t know that they know what’s happening so and then you know obviously um was it was a if they touched it then we were good if we touched it we were good and obviously we lost the replay so what you what you guys were doing well in the first half even as like the field positioning in their favor for most of the half that allowed you to avoid some of those some of those things that that did ultimately go wrong in the second half in terms of I’m sorry like uh um off the special team stuff and and had the turnover obviously at the end like it seemed like the Poise was really good in the first half to avoid that stuff yeah um you know I thought we had some we had some we had a good run pass mix in the first half you know we had we had good balance you know they went three and out a bunch of times um you know we had our opportunities you know it’s just uh you know Dana calls a play and a guy M this or you know makes a mistake there and you know we’re just close but we’re not making exactly the play you know again I thought the first drive coming out of the half was real progress for us and you know we make that field goal it’s a you know it’s a little bit different of a game right so um um but I thought you know we were just kind of in Rhythm a little bit more we found some good runs the second half uh didn’t run run the ball quite as well and uh you know we lost the possession there right so they you know we we went down drove to score it pun the ball back to us we lost that possession they scored again um you know what a great job by the defense to hold them to three and out and then just kind of was never quite the same you know made a couple plays here and there um but again you know we had our opportunities you know what I’m saying we second and one we we throw that over out we got to catch that ball and go score and uh uh you know we had the post early in the game we got behind them so uh we have to make those plays so that’s a that’s what it is how do you get you guys to flush this quickly obviously you’re moving into a portion of the Season that they’re not accustomed to but just you know any of them have spent their um you know it’s different because normally you have a game next week so it’s easier to just hey let’s you know I can’t imagine being some of those seniors you know and this just happening again against Iowa right like last year the way it ended um especially you know to kind of to Sam’s Point when you play the way you played you know like some of the defensive kids to play the way they played and have to watch the other team storm the field you know um that’s frustrating you know some of the young players might be discouraged I don’t you know oh that’s frustrating it just it just it just is you know it’s just where we’re at and you know what I mean as dumb as that sounds we have to get better we have to get better and so you know today’s world kids move around the the freshman at sophomores that were out there tonight that’ll be with us in two years hopefully they’ll remember all that stuff um I feel very very very good there’s been lots of times you guys have come in here and I say we have to coach better we to do this better everything was everything was said to them and told to them and so it’s just a matter of doing it and um we have to just continue to get better until we do it and so um um yeah you know Mitch it should it should probably bother people for a little bit right it should probably bother some of those young players for a little bit like um cuz what I don’t want us to do is play you know going back to your earlier question I don’t want us to go out there and play not to lose because you know afraid to lose is afraid to win you know I mean we’ve got to play to win we got to be aggressive and um you know so I think this this will be one of those games that hopefully you know propels us into the future this is why we said chasing three but they they caught the three tonight we didn’t and um that’s a shame you know cuz for most of the game you know you go back and look at this game over the last couple years you know I mean we look like the better team for for times in the game you know they’re an excellent team I’m not disrespecting them saying we look like we played really good football and um we’ve got to just get better I’m happy to answer anything I’m you deserve to ask answer whatever you want anything else for Coach I don’t know that it was the wrong call but did they give you an explanation on the the kick return they sort of had where the guy kind of went in the end zone did they think about r that or that they said he touched it but they said um you know if he bounces off and and goes in the end zone it can still be it can still be down in there so wasn’t like he propelled it into the end zone so um they uh they gave us that one I they said that was the right call so there were a lot of things tonight that they said to me like hey you know review uh in you know cuz it’s aay you know Saturday night game hey replay looked at this and this was this right this was that so um like the you know first fair catch signal they said H you replace that it was good so they communicated well tonight you know um appreciate the officials I’m good thank you thanks for all year I’ll see you guys hopefully B [Music] practice e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e how much disbelief will you guys in at the end of that game you played so well and yet ended up three points behind the scoreboard yeah I mean initially you like no way you know what I’m saying but you know when you really look at it take a look at we take a look at ourselves and you know what we did throughout the game and then you know the fourth quarter lack of execution you know didn’t get the job done and you can go out and go back look at the film here here here here it’s GNA show that so we faced it we paid for it how did you guys want to attack iow de what was your plan tonight uh balanced attack uh you know attack their their zones their mans they started playing a little two man uh but yeah just it was our game you know the way we play Nebraska football all year you know tack the tack the tackles inside t the DB safeties like nothing nothing special football Jamal you got a game left what’s what’s left for you guys to do here um in the next few weeks get better craft you know end of the day it’s still football um you know for the the people who going to be with us we going to give everything we have and uh and yeah just keep going how motivated are you as a senior to finish this I’m very motivated uh you know tomorrow next year and I promise so I’m going just cherish you know what I what I have right now else for Jamal okay appreciate y e e e hey you thought you were down on that on that one play what takes you through that what would happen on that yeah um that was kind of our play to to go in the two-minute and um you know I came back and I RAB FR was about to throw it um you know I got hit so um you know I thought I I had had it controlled all way to the ground but I guess not and um you know it’s unfortunate time in the game that happened because he kind other guy guy that recovered it kind of just took it like it was you could have recovered it but you thought you were yeah no I like I was still playing you know even if I was down I was still playing through to get the ball but uh it’s unfortunate um this is what it is D what’s next for this team now obviously tough loss but you have a month before your bow game how do you got what’s next for this program uh yeah I guess I guess we’ll see um I guess we got two days off and then kind of figure out from there um you know I’m not really sure what what’s what’s going to happen next um what bowl we’re going to or you know what’s going on um so uh we’ll figure that out soon some of your veteran teammates have lost games like this Iowa what’s the emotion of them yeah uh it’s unfortunate I hate that for them to go out like that to especially this team and and you know how much this means to the our state and this program but um I guess we got to live with it and uh you know the young guys understand um what it is now and and moving forward what it’s supposed to look like can you just kind of speak to your feelings about the progress this team this pram has made in your first year yeah I think we made a lot of progress uh from from game one and now um just on both sides of the defense and offense special teams um you know I going to be more proud and uh you know I think I think it just losing this game doesn’t do justice to see all the success and the strides that we’ve made as a team but um that’s what it is right now so uh yeah one more Dylan for is all good all right thank e e e I mean it always comes down the same way right I think the score has been 131 the past four years uh you know it’s probably the most physical game we play every year um I think that proved today you know just it always comes down to that last play T you guys were on your way to pitch a shut out got the Y Line in the what did you think about the defensive effort how does the fourth quarter and the way it ended impact your feelings about that I mean I think uh you know the defense came out today with on fire um there was that that feeling in the lock room uh it even goes back to all we in practice just how much you know this game was emotional uh as a rivalry um I’m really proud of the way the my guys came out and played today uh I told them before we went out there I said there’s no other place I’d rather be with this group of guys and you know I think we went out there and we did our thing you know our goal all season was to have a fourth quarter shut out for every game and you know lo and behold didn’t get that done it came back to bite us in our in our ass so you know just moving forward and I know coach r’s going to get it right uh and that’s just you know that’s the standard that’s that’s supposed to be held you worked years now to have a b mon yeah you know come back on Monday uh it’s new for me so I don’t really know what to expect uh I’m excited to be a part of it though um you know get us I love like I’ve said I love this program uh I love that I get to be able to practice uh and play football for the next few weeks and get to go to game how frustrating was that long touchdown from especially how good guys play yeah we knew it was going to you know they they just needed one big play uh you know I kind of take responsibility on that just cuz it came in trying to kill the guy and accidentally hit Deshawn off of him uh instead of you know just trying to reach out and Tackle him so you know I take that on me but you know one play doesn’t Define us I mean we went back out there and did our thing you know there’s going to be ups and down ups and downs to every game uh you got to be able you got to learn you know how to ride the wave with with the highs and the lows so I think our guys did well doing that all right thank you thanks
