have you any uh any fresh injury concerns or any players coming back for this weekend um Yan Ben’s back Paul onatu is back which is really good um and apart from that no I think we’re all good what those returns gave you um well just something different in Yan obviously a lot of uh games played for us a lot of trust uh he’s been a very very good performer in our time including this season actually um leadership and courage with the ball and Paul gives us a real alternative option to use that’s different to anyone else in the squad and most people in the league actually so um it’s really unfortunate at the time of his injury because he was in such a good place and he was going to really help us I think and now I think he’ll help us moving forward you obviously face a Tottenham team that on the day can eat Manchester City 40 but the other side of that is they lost a home to IP switch to give I switch a kind of statement victory has has that been a message to the players this week that there is that in totam um I think the message is always uh whatever we see the best one for the players in preparation for this game so uh we’ll try and approach every game to try and win it try and be ourselves to try and um have as much of the game as we possibly can on our terms um I think they’re an outstanding team outstanding players an outstanding manager um but everyone is in the Premier League pretty much so I think our preparation doesn’t change and the message will stay in house um there’ll be ways we feel we can hurt them and I’m sure Andre is saying exactly the same to his team in the ways he can try and hurt us um so the focus has been all on that what we need to improve from the last game and being aware of course of the context like the emotional context of the game where the opposition’s at and where we’re at you mentioned an po have you both been similar in the sense that you you have this belief in the way of doing things and you want to see that way of doing things succeed um well and just been a manager for a much longer time than I have um and I can’t speak for him so I don’t know what he feels behind closed doors but when I um see him in the media I see a man of conviction when I watch his team play a man with conviction and belief and values that he won’t um compromise on which I admire a lot and ultimately he got him managing in the Premier League and managing in the Champions League at Celtic so I think he’s done an incredible job had an incredible managerial career um so I have a lot of admiration and respect for him in terms of having that belief in your own approach and and he having that as well he did say recently that from that approach they got a 4-n win against Manchester City and that has given the likes of the club you know really positive memory is that is that the kind of example that you see is a positive when it comes to sticking with your way of doing things and the hope that points come so I I think it’s really interesting because like every manager that sits behind the team has some form of beliefs and some form of like value system and what they deem is acceptable or what they want to to see what they won’t compromise on what non-negotiables are but the ones who are [Music] um only criticized and the ones are a little bit different from the norm so if we all believe the same thing um I think it be pretty boring and I think it would be uh but it would be less open to criticism I think his team is brave it’s aggressive they’ve been really unfortunate of injuries it’s so it’s so similar to uh gr poter when he wi at Chelsea everything he got praised for and credit for at Brighton he then got criticized for uh Chelsea so he went from being calm studious Really Brave in his Approach at Brighton then managed a team with a different expectation and then all of a sudden he didn’t show enough passion on the sideline and was too uh emotionally consistent and all this nonsense so it’s exactly the same with an I watched a lot of his Celtic team they were brilliant got so much praise for being so aggressive so brave Relentless restarts energy energy energ did a great job won lots of trophies played in the Champions League he goes to the Spurs starts so well so when results are good no one questions the style or his conviction or belief system um and then the minute it starts for in it’s always down to that and but I’m pretty sure and I’ll get criticized for the same thing about being stubborn and all that stuff but if you believe in something and it’s taking you a certain way in life on a certain pathway Journey then to deviate too far from that I think is crazy so but we’re also I’m pretty sure I can’t speak for him we are adapting we adapt shape we adapt approach we adapt uh Personnel but in with the same consistent what’s really important for us with the same concept of the game the same so we can’t deviate too far from that otherwise we become nothing really so um yeah I don’t know I think um yeah everyone’s just quick to criticize these days and uh I have a lot of respect for him CU I know Jimmy carer this week was talking about Posta C L plan A I put my coat on it R by the way so but like plan a plan B they don’t need to be like miles apart so this is the concept that we all get completely mixed up so like plan a is to play This Way Plan B doesn’t have to be a million miles over here cuz then it would be crazy so then you don’t really believe in the plan a that’s that’s the point so when you have plan a of course you need to move a little bit on certain things but you start with a vision and a version of the game that you want as a coach I’m pretty sure everyone does because if you’re going into a manager managerial job and you haven’t got a an idea or of the game or concept of the game then you probably shouldn’t be in the job so we all have one they’re all very different I have respect for every single person that does the job because it’s incredibly tough so there’s no right or wrong but this is where we all get mixed up so people watch the games and and if it’s not their version of the game they’re really quick to criticize if it’s their version of the game how they played it or how they see it they don’t criticize anywhere near as much so this is the problem plan a and plan B do not me to be hugely different plan B is like mix it up in certain maybe you change the way you press maybe you change the way you build up maybe you change the shape maybe you change the position of the players without losing the concept of plan a otherwise what’s the point in having a plan a you just go and throw everything at it and go work hard Lads and we’ll see what happens so this is like when when when people sit there and criticize they wouldn’t if it was their version of the game but it’s not so we all have a different version of the game but really understand someone’s plan a first so if you if uh he sat down with an maybe for an hour or two hours and I really like Jamie carer by the way it’s not criticism him this is just a general conversation but if he sat down with and for maybe two or three hours and really understood it and said why’ you do this maybe it’s a different idea or concept but I just think it’s really easy to sit there and criticize and is what it is it’s the game in it you think ultimately it does come down to points and obviously it’s more difficult for a newly promoted team as history shows recent history shows in the Premier League how much belief do you have that you you’ll get the points from well I really believe in the prayers I don’t I don’t um my job is to try and transmit the belief to the play that they they can believe in themselves as much as I believe in them and what we’re doing I don’t think they have any doubt in when we speak and we have open conversations the belief in what they’re doing or what they’re trying to be or what they’re trying to do but of course wins help that and points win help that and like the biggest uh job is to eliminate the external noise is so difficult so maybe at times we’re the only voices tell them they’re good enough maybe uh even family members all question I’ve been there as a player agents supporters obviously um media pandits everyone questions if you are good enough or not good enough so yeah it’s it’s being able to switch that off and and zoom in and focus on what’s really important we’re trying to do that as well as we can with our Lads and you have had positive performances this season a lot yeah yeah we we like we shouldn’t be on the points we are it’s it’s incredibly hurtful and embarrassing we’re only on Five Points that we should have more um but there’s been a few too many mistakes and there’s been a few too many uh moments we haven’t managed well and disappointments in games and setbacks so we have to keep trying to grow grow as a group grow individually um prepare the players for them moments when it’s tough and what to do and find ways to cope and manage emotionally um but they are growing and they are getting better and we’re so competitive went to a team in the Champions League on Saturday there really wasn’t much in the game we make one mistake they score until then there’s nothing in it after that there’s nothing in it really and then the last 10 15 minutes completely changes the if you then look at the game purely on the stats after the last 15 minutes when it’s transitional completely changes the context of it so um yeah we’re not far away and we have to just keep working keep concentrating on the process and ourselves and uh just keep trying to be better thank for good luck with the plan a and plan B thing when you look around the Premier League and and further a field as well do any successful teams have a vastly different plan B to plan a I don’t think so I’m not sure how you can um so I don’t think any teams deviate too much and and and a lot of the time when people are like we got a lot of praise for winning the playoff final with a different plan it wasn’t a different plan we just scored early and the motion took over and we happened to do a lot of work on defending when uh if we were in front for the last 10 minutes we just did it for a bit longer than we probably would have liked to because the emotion of the game took over so um and they kept asking me after you know it’s a tactical master plan now the game went to plann really really well till about 60 minutes then after that the emotion took over the heavy legs took over but the lads dug in and they stuck to the principals out of possession so the plan was the same the feeling was very different and the context of the game was very different so you have to adapt and that’s my point so uh plans can be flexible and adaptable um without losing what you are trying to do and um I think I don’t see any team having one plan and then going completely completely different but every team is different I think that’s what makes it exciting and makes it interesting one of the big crticism of Tottenham against Chelsea was that they went to0 up and were flying and perhaps should have stepped back take stock whatever cliche you want to use how much of managing a game in that moment is down to the players on the pitch how much is down to the Dugout and the messages you and your colleag I I don’t know what the message was so I think um if it plan’s really good to get you in in a position where you tune it up um but then obviously teams make change we had this against Leicester earlier on in the season um we went 2-0 up in a really good place they made a change we didn’t adapt quickly enough as a a coaching staff then uh as players we didn’t adapt quickly enough to the emotional context of the game and the temperature going up then we had a send it off and it completely changed so I don’t know what the message was for for the Tottenham team at that point um but I think A team’s always better off having a next goal mentality rather than trying to defend the lead and and trying to get in front again depends on the makeup of your team right some teams are set up to score a goal and then defend and if that’s them that’s good if you’re not set up to do that then I think you should try and attack and get the next goal um after the The Villa Game you made a reference to the the fans or some fans reaction to a long Ball by the goalkeeper and that comment has been debated dissected interpreted misinterpreted what did you mean in that moment well I don’t know how it’s been uh interpreted I don’t know how it’s been dissected what I meant was in the last couple of games at home and away um we’re playing a different goalie has played he’s he’s playing his third Premier League game second maybe I don’t know Alex played with half an injury but like the the ironic cheer when it gets kicked long and I understand it some people get frustrated when we making mistake near own goal but this is my point about having plan a we’re not set up to kick it long really unless it’s on our terms so when we kick it long no problem if we’re doing something that we’ve worked on and we’ve planned and we recognize there’s a spare man orist space to hit but the goalkeeper kicked it under no pressure um because of the scary moment just before he kicked it to one of our smallest players against one of their biggest ones and 10 seconds later in our goal but our fans cheered ironically so that’s all it was it wasn’t a criticism it was just to make people really aware of like I’m trying to help the goalkeeper the teammates are trying to help him we should all try and help him and the team at that point um so I didn’t mean it in never that I’m just I was trying to put the game into context and that happened in the game so we had a scary moment I think there was a lot of angry people at that in in our fan base and then they cheered when we kicked it long but my point was is like it’s fine cheering it but understand what comes of it afterwards um and that’s it the fans have been amazing since I’ve been here everyone I bump into in the town been amazing I said that there’s no criticism in the fans it’s not us against them we’re all together but all I’m asking for is like together all the time which is really tough cuz it is not a lack of effort from the team at all so I think aim it at me no problem but when they goalkeeper kicks it long it’s don’t think it’s a time to cheer ironically really but that’s my opinion but I love our supporters I love being it I’m sure I get criticized again but you ask me the question I have to be honest in terms of goalkeepers is there any uh update on yeah mafi’s back fit and Rambo’s very close a Rambo maybe the Liverpool game if not the Fulham game after that just one other player Joo been a little unlucky not to start more games recently um he played brilliantly against Chelsea put in a massive physical effort and then didn’t start against Villa um but he’s right in contention for the way he performs when he does come on the pitch and when he plays Russ just going back to the the plans U obviously the plan a plan B don’t need to be miles apart you obviously got your way of playing um you’ve got your set style but is there is there a plan B that’s not too far away from your plan a that could be brought in if if you had to yeah I think I think we’ve uh We’ve adapted and tweaked quite a bit um yeah yeah as always always trying to adapt and tweak and improve the plan looking at Tottenham um would you say that now is a good time to play them obviously they’re a little B of form managers Under Pressure it’s ever a good time to play any team I think his context is really uh I don’t know what goes on behind closed doors with them I don’t know how feeling about their performances I don’t so when I look at the results but I look at the way they’re playing there’s a lot to like about their performances they’ve also had a lot of injuries themselves similar to us so they’ve been a bit disrupted in the rhythm of their team but um I think the wounded animal is quite dangerous so they’ve they’ve been on end of a couple of tough results so maybe that makes them more of a threat I don’t know and on the goalkeeper front Joe Dy looks at to continue um how pleased have you been with him since he’s come in yeah it’s not an easy job to come into a team that with the but he did brilliantly at Brighton tough game against Chelsea made some really good saves we stayed Brave with the ball and then at vill I’m not criticizing him for kicking it long I completely understand the anxiety takes over at that point um I think he’s done great for someone who’s never played in the Premier League before and has been a third choice for a lot of the season to then have Rambo and then Alex injured has been uh been difficult but he stepped in and um done a good job another one Nathan wood come in Fairly recently looks like he’s settling in quite nicely in the Premier League what you made wood he’s a good player a really good player as why we wanted to bring him here he’s had to be really patient but I think we have two outstanding young English Center halfes that have a big chance to um Taylor’s already made his debut but big chance to to play um in the Premier League and for their country in years to come for quite some time with the ability and potential they have they get on really well which helps they push each other Woody’s had to be so patient but I’ve loved his attitude to keep training and work I was so Keen to bring him here because I understand him very well as a person we have a very good relationship there’s been some tough conversations this year but he trusts us and we trust him and I’m really pleased that’s a message to the rest of the group as well if you stay ready and you respond in the right way cuz you should be disappointed in not playing but when you train properly and um Stay Ready that’s what can can happen and just lastly home game on Sunday of course they’re always important when you’re scrapping for points and needs the fans to be on side have you got anything you want to say to them to sort of reassure them a little bit no I think um the fans honestly like I said earlier have been brilliant since I’ve been here even Chelsea I think they were great they stuck with a team during a difficult difficult time um I think that’s all I can ever ask I think all I think if I’m support what I want to see is like the players are trying and giving everything which they are and they’re fighting um it’s not a lack of that effort and I think you know it will be what it’ll be we have to just keep fighting and keep working and we are going to need them we’re going to need the supporters so it’s up to us to give them something to feel positive about to be happy about to bring the right energy to help create the atmosphere in the stadium um and understand their frustration at the moment cuz not convince anyone be feeling more frustrated than I am at the minute um so yeah they’ve been brilliant for us since we’ve been here that’s all I can ask ever ask is that they they support us um yeah and uh I said at the start of the season it’s not going to be easy it’s going to be tough and we’re all going to have to stick together through some difficult periods this is one and I hope we all uh I hope we all do stick together if we can all get through this together and come out the other side I think the rewards and the the growth of their team and their Club will be will be huge okay move on to the 10:30 I don’t if you mention sorry I missed it you up ad how yeah sorry he’s back in the squad I missed Adam yeah he’s training so that’s good news he’s back in EXC um all three teams who have been in this position leue have gone on to finish B does these next four matches maybe five matches before their new year do they feel decisive for you I think it’s a massive massive period for us for most teams over like December Christmas um we need some points on the board to to really give ourselves a chance of um getting a bit of help in January and then really kicking on from there I do believe the team is is getting better and growing but we have to get the results to reflect that and show that now and uh I think there’s no one in here believing that everything’s decided and we can’t do it I really believe we can do it and surprise everyone will be the first team to do that um so just have to keep on working think the stats going around that there 10 errors directly leading goals now you’ve only scored 11 all season do you just simply need that risk and award ratio just to flip and flip now um yeah so like a lot of them early on in the season and and some of the mistakes are just not they just not what we work on so it’s it’s just AEM motion it’s um bit of tension at times or whatever it is and then we get punished so I think um we’ missed too many chances or we missed too many opportunities to break the rhythm of the game so we have to get a balance right we have to find a balance and uh yeah you’re right we have to get more rewards like people talk about us making mistakes playing out and all that we stole the ball of Hasen Villa four times in their final third were’re in their box three out of them four times on the first pass and it doesn’t come to a shot I think Ryan Manning gets a shot block which is Going On Target and going to force Martinez into a save and when that’s against us with the opposition if they steal it that’s it it’s they’re going for the jug Giller so we have to have more of that intent I think intention is everything so if we’re playing out we’re really playing don’t get caught in between if we’re not then we’re playing forward and we’re running forward and if we’re pressing and hunting we’re doing it to try and score not not for any other reason so uh yeah I think the message to the players has been really clear I think they’ve really taken it on board I’ve really enjoyed the work we’ve done this week a lot of it been focusing on that um about being more aggressive in the oppos position after go and score and try and make them defend so yeah we’ll see I know you said that the message for Sunday will stay in house fair enough but given everything that’s going on maybe a little bit of frustration negativity in the fans playing at home against a team with a lot of injuries is it as simple as just taking the game to them straight away attacking that highlight and getting some shots off as as you can yeah I think the way we started against Chelsea was great the way we started against Manu was great we we’ve started games brilliantly and then it’s all turned on the first like setb or the first bit of disappointment in the game so we have to try and draw blood first I think is the simple like solution and answer we playing and writing games and sometimes really on top and then we go behind and and it completely changes the feeling of the game and the energy of the game so well if we have a spell we’re on top and I hope we do from the off I hope we play the right energy and aggression and intensity cuz we’re playing against the team with the most running the most intens the most Sprint the most highs speed running in the league so we have to try and match them for every bit of that and um make them make the best of those moments we’ve had so many moments in the Premier League more moments I think than the players believe they would have at the start most more maybe more than the supports what we would have in terms of when we play we really play and we cut people open but we we don’t have enough to show for it and we haven’t been in front enough for the some of the level of performance so we have to try and draw blood first we’re not going to sit there on Sunday and try and uh soak it up and you know try and grind it we’re going to try and take the game to them as much as we can feel refreshed and for at all in a way that you know you have only one one game 15 but it seems like you still have the backing of the owners and the board I’m not sure I feel refreshed mate but I uh I feel energized so I didn’t after Saturday evening at Villa I felt losing herts so um and we’ve lost too much we want to get that feeling back of winning we won so much last year you get used to that we haven’t done it enough this year but um I feel energized by the response from the players and the staff and when I come in the building I feel nothing but love and support from the people here all the staff everyone from the chefs in the kitchen the kit people um the coaching staff the players so as long as I feel that I’ll have the energy to keep working and keep trying to be better and keep trying to improve and we have so much to improve on I still so excited about the group and what they’re capable of and how much we can grow that group um and I will keep doing that until I’m told I’m I’m not wanted to just find it for me if I can you mentioned I think couple months ago now about maybe get Tire D in a new contract has there been any progress on that and also he’s on a deal to 2026 right now but I believe there’s an option to extend that one year is that something the club can just do yeah I think so I think um well is there is an option that we can extend I don’t think we want to do that I think we want to reward Tyler for his performances um and I spoke to Tyler’s mom and dad about it I spoke to Tyler but then I’m not involved in any negotiations then it’s down to Phil and the Gang and the owners and Tyler’s agent and I think that’s where it gets tricky so um yeah I don’t have any any news for you on that we have off him a contract what I believe is a really good contract for someone his age um but at the minute I don’t think his agent agrees so that’s where at I think Tyler wants it done I think Tyler’s parents want it done so we’ll see how long that takes but I Jordan told me some rumors about man united wanted a bid 21 million I’m not sure not sure get his left foot for that but just if tyly sees those rumors and yeah quite wi how’ you stop him from like on something his head Tyler left his club and um didn’t enjoy it and came back very quickly so I think we uh Tyler knows himself his parents and his family um really understand what Thailand needs and I think they know he gets that he from us um he feels really trusted we he really trusts us we really trust him we work on him and we’re really demanding with him but I think in the right way um and I think Tyler knows he just needs to keep playing getting better there’s a lot he can improve on he needs more goals and assists for the quality he has um he’s getting better and better all the time and I think it’s all always about timing so he’s playing every week in the Premier League for the kid for the team that he’s growing up with since he’s a kid and I don’t think there’s many things better than that so um and also he’s not easily distracted he loves football he’s the most relaxed relaxed boy ever like laidback so I think um he understands what’s important for him right now and he understands that he’s in a really good place for that about he he burst on to the SE for Southampton he’s speaking about how some players they get the chance to travel with the squad on time which was all Tyler 2 last season do you think he’s kind of reaping the benefits of that now the fact when he did make those first starts and those first appear into the Premier League I hope so he he trained us all last season so I think he’s pretty comfortable with the group Sam Mamo as well they both had opportunities at times last season they would have definitely wanted more but again it’s about timing it’s about being ready so um he was he was behind Shy Armstrong will smallbone jarbo in in um in a team that’s trying to get promoted in the championship so I think uh understood and also you have to find out where 100% is cuz so many of the young guys uh don’t quite know where 100% is when they come up and they think it is it’s not quite there so Tyler’s version of 100% was very different to what it is this season so um sometimes it takes a bit of time but he’s incredibly talented he’s a beautiful boy I love working with him he’s one of the most talented players I’ve ever worked with um and it’s been an absolute pleasure to watch him adapt and handle the the Premier League how he is but he has to keep it going he set a really high bar for himself and now it’s our job and his job to keep it going because there’s always ups and downs with a young player back to timings I Nathan you spoke about already but feel like center backs is a position that doesn’t rotate you see Strikers and Wingers get changed all the time you a Defender yourself so thinking about Nathan in that position kind of wait for the opportunity when he gets it how’ you kind of not go into a game and think I’ve got beat def on the pitch to kind of keep yeah I think it takes a certain um level of resilience and mental strength to to be S sat behind some really experienced and players and then but to keep believing that you’re better than them to keep believing you deserve a chance then when you get the chance not to let that desperation or anxiety or attenion take over that you’re so keen and you end up trying too hard so Woody’s brilliant like we had so many chats from we at Swansea about feeling the game and playing with using emotion as a fuel and um he really understands himself he’s completely different boy to the one that walked in to us a few years ago he’s really mature really good professional um really believes in himself most importantly I think the one thing in the Premier League you have to have is complete belief in your ability otherwise it swallows you up quite quickly and um Woody doesn’t lack that but he also doesn’t lack humility it’s never like too far the other way so uh I’ve enjoyed watching him
