e e e e e e e e e e e e pretty sure here Mark Merry Christmas guys Merry Christmas Merry [Music] Christmas you guys have no lives either by the way why you guys come to talk to me on Christmas Eve come on seriously football that’s what I said yeah that there you ready I’m ready sure all right who’s opening this up Mark I guess I’ll open up you guys going to walk through today is that that the plan yeah jog through walk through uh we get a chance to get out had our meetings this morning uh we will go out and have our activation period get the guys moving a little bit have a jog through which is a little bit faster than the walk through we’ll get a couple periods of that so the guys can move around just a tad bit and then we will slide into a normal version of a walk through splits fields which you used to accustom to seeing to be do some of those things to get those guys acclimated to get a feel for what our day looks like when we get to our normal d and d and some of those things are there challenges this week Chistmas uh I mean it’s the same thing you deal with every single year you know always the same challenges um when you get so accustomed to it in football um that you know you barely get a chance to really realize this Christmas just normal normal behavior for us I guess what you would say with uh the most losing on Monday night uh obviously that changes a little bit for you guys not everything but any more any more ju from the guys knowing that now you’re back control your own destiny not really I think the guys are um obviously excited with the genuine outcome of what happened in the game to put you back in a position to go out and finish the season how you wanted to finish it anyway and uh get a win and get a chance to uh qualify for postseason play so you know the normal juice that comes with that the normal juice that’s required to have the energy to play in this league and like we talked about man playing significant ball this time of the year is always good what was uh what was Kirk like last week to work with and then how did he do running the scout team he absolutely was outstanding you know from the very beginning we talked about the the conversation that we had and him uh telling us he was going to be the best backup in the National Football League and he absolutely followed through um by being very verbal in his meetings being very um Hands-On with Mike um going out running scout team being able to be out there and do all the things that’s necessary for us to get done he looked great um he practiced great he gave our defense a great look obviously allowed them to go play very fast and very well um was able to give great feedback to um his coaches Mike um defense side of the ball him and Jimmy Lake have a very good relationship so that was very good when you say handson what does what does that meanly you know he’s very like you know conscientious what you thinking from the quarterback position so within the game he’s able to go down and communicate things that you would you would want if you were a quarterback to get communicated to the Y Line he’s able to communicate with with Michael uh with TJ with DJ all of those guys just thinking about it seeing it from his eyes I was a little bit of a step back to what he had done before just remember what he had done before in the process of that and he knows he’s one stap away so he’s readying himself to have to go back out there if he’s needed there have been situations in the league where you know when a quarterback gets bumped right they don’t act the way the Kirk is acting right now right oh yeah no doubt um what have you liked about how you know his Dem and how he’s approached this it’s just the character of the guy and it’s not what I’ve liked it’s what I’ve Loved um the character of the guy is absolutely outstanding it’s who he was it’s who he is um it’s who he always be no matter what the situations are it’s always going to be tough it’s always going to be hard and you know you obviously have those General emotions that start off but like how he handles everything is is how he handles all the things that he does in life so he’s absolutely outstanding when it comes to that type of stuff this is probably a premature question but I’m going to ask it anyway would you like to see Kirk Cousins back in Atlanta th’s uniform next year you’re exactly right is so premature like it’d be hard for me to tell you that I don’t want to see Kurt Cousins you know I love Kurt Cousins everything about him um and so does this football team and who he is and what he’s all about you know those things will come when we get to those moments and then obviously you don’t know what’s going to happen every single year every single year is different they always are they always are different things but you know Kurt Cousins has no ill will in this building towards anybody or or with anybody so I love Kurt in your experience specifically maybe talking about pinex here what kind of jump do you see in performance and your experience when a guy gets a game under his belt going into the second game you know um you obviously the challenges are different every single week they present different challenges you know obviously I got to go all the way back to you know being the head coach role of seeing Josh Freeman in his first start getting a big time win versus Green Bay and how he finished that year um he he had steady progression throughout the end of that year that led into a really good season the following um but you just never know you know it’s a it’s a different team that you play it’s who you’re playing it’s the quality opponent you’re playing all the different factors that go into that play you know um the elements come into factor a little bit going to a different thing going to a different environment um how do you play how do you playing a a away game as opposed to a home game there’s different learning curves for him for every single thing that we’re going to go through um but just thinking about Michael pennic I got a lot of confidence in the young man of being able to do a couple different things in that in that form and that fashion just because of who he is and experience that he has from college the 45 games started in in college NCAA the amount of big games that he played in the amount of playoff games that he played in um having a chance to go out there and win some of those games big games whatever the case may be playing with different systems different people different coordinators um he’s got a lot of really good experiences that’s going to help him in this in his in his in his uh in his window how do you think his Poise demeanor can help in a his first Prim Time game with all the implications that come with it I don’t think it’s helpful I think it’s like the thing you know I think half the time you spend like you know really concentrated on trying to ignore distractions or embrace the distractions however you want to look at it and like he’s kind of just that guy every day you know right from the beginning from the draft from um the process of being a backup from the Readiness to getting his first start to getting his first win not being too big for him and then really just going back to work every single day and doing his his process and I think he’s really done a nice job and a service for himself by really developing a nice process throughout the weeks prior to him starting to now having that process and being able to do the same thing I think he answered the question last week what did you do differently and he said you know nothing I’ve been preparing for this the whole entire time that I’ve been here so like that process that he developed throughout the year being able to follow a vet like Kirk I think was really important for him jayen Daniels has had an impressive year I’m curious what what you’re seeing him put on tape this season compared to you know maybe the draft process and what you learn a lot of the things that we saw in the draft know not much has changed you know obviously a really good football player that can make big time plays and the things that you’ve seen really is him in and close out games you know the big time hell mirr that we’ve seen versus the Chicago Bears last week leading that two-minute drive going down and winning that game you know that those type winning performance when you put the team in your back and you absolutely go out there and win those type of games are probably the biggest differences and it might not be as big of a difference because I was watching probably cut-ups when it came to college games as opposed to watching the games but when you’re watching the games he’s exciting what are you seeing on film and in practice that maybe is help this defense start getting home on pressure things like that it was kind of the things that we kind of had talked about you know we had a kind of we had kind of talked about those things previously and talked about these guys were getting better throughout the course of the season and it’s just come to fruition since the bu where we actually got a chance to get home a couple times and I think it’s about 16 times we’ve been able to get home but more importantly the amount of pressure and the amount of um disruption we’ve caused up front whether it be errant throws or or not you know or the ability to get interceptions or like I said getting home and getting the sacks I think those things have just really come to fruition of what we were talking about earlier I know we talked about it earlier when I was trying to tell you like I I see really good things from our pass rush and they’re coming and I know it’s hard to say that when you don’t have the production that you want when you’re talking about Sundays but now they’re coming to Sunday so now you guys get a chance to see them coach what is your approach to coaching high stakes must win games like the one on Sunday your personal approach to that I think it’s just same I think you go into it with the same mentality um I think they’re all high stakes when you com to the National Football League I don’t think it’s any different you know we don’t have any uh so to speak cupcakes on the schedule you know when you play the National Football League every game is a high stake high value game that’s what makes the league so special right that’s why people get a little nervous about adding you know more games they get a little nervous because you the stakes get a little whatever different but like I just think it’s just the best well put together league in professional sports and like I I think you got to treat them all the same with the high regard also the Commander’s defense particularly their front seven has been a force this season how do you neutralize your strength offensively especially given the importance of for tenants in the Run game you know with DQ you knew that the front seven would definitely be a key factor on what they do on how they get out the passer he’s been like that throughout his whole career when he was at Seattle when he was here when he was at Dallas and now moving that thing to Washington it’s what they really value and really for us is about our front five and our guys are in protection really holding up and straining a little bit extra in order to get those mustn pass situations off and be a to look those things down down the barrel and make those plays because you know they’re going to come they know they’re going to have pressure um they’re going to do those things they’re going to cause significant violence and we got ready to deal there’s been some ups and downs obviously this year you know winning streaks losing streak taking the ups and downs into consideration as we go down to two regular season games left how fun is it to be in this position playoff mix you’re fighting for your life you got D you got you’re the driver seat uh for division just how fun how much fun are you having right now to still be talking playoffs at this time of year you you really just described everything in all the emotions I think he wrote the article for me when you asked that but it’s definitely that it’s like the excitement the fun the energy the juice it’s everything you talk about when you’re in these moments right is just like Hey how do you play significant football at the end of the season you know everybody wants to be you know 16 and0 you know just not the reality of the business that we live in you know but like the reality is that you fight you fight you fight you put yourself in position to go out there and win your division you put yourself a chance to get yourself to qualify for extra play and we’re right in the mix of doing that and we got to go do it and finish as the season one down in rook and JD F rookie season um I’m curious what you’ve seen just his overall development and his presence on defense I just got to talk about the whole rookie class I just liked how they’ve all developed throughout the season now they was much maligned at the beginning of the Season that they wern’t playing but that was really a sign of a good football team right when you get a chance to wait and hold out on guys and then Michael pennis gets to step up get a little bit of Rook obviously unfortunately Trice got hurt but now JD starting to he came on strong had the bounce out for a little bit with a little injury came right back so able to go and he’s going out there with a significant role when he’s playing and getting a bunch of time we got a chance to see a little bit of doorless and got a chance to see all these guys unless she has some significant injuries and things of that nature but it’s really a nice thing when you see guys develop and grow within the season and are and able to be contributors to a team that’s competing at a very high level coach with the um rain and the cold weather potentially affecting the game against Washington how are you adjusting the preparations here you know the all the weather and all the elements they affect the other team as well so like you know we got to prepare for it just they got to prepare for it you know obviously if it is rain it’s a wet ball day all those type of things you got to be extra careful with the ball they got all the same issues we got so we’ll go play you know anywhere anyhow any any way you got to do it you know whatever you guys like you know whether it’s snowing whatever the case may be who cares right they got to deal with any elements that’s out there just like us which I’m not going to ask if you’ve got your Christmas shopping them because if you haven’t it’s kind of late right now let me tell you something I’ve been out of the Christmas shopping business for a long time don’t tell my wife this why I got married no it’s about the holiday for these guys to kind of get away from it you know for a day and just kind of be with their families yeah it’s always great man like this this thing we talk about that we you know we’re family but at the end of the day it’s always nice for guys to get away and be get a chance to enjoy their families get a chance to be with their children get a chance to see everybody enjoy those moments and then you know be able to bring it back to work and be able to share those stories with all your buddies so like the guys love that we love that you also love it to bring it into the building whatever you do Secret Center in your room whatever it is the gift change amongst the guys uh the amount of people you’re able to take care that take care of you every day I think all of those things are part of what we do uh when it comes to just in holidays in general and that we’ve been a part that we’ve all been fortunate enough to be able to give um in our life you know this whole thing with us and our part of our ethos and you know obviously a part of Arthur’s is being able to get back so this is a great time for us to be to give back to the people that gave to us and help us also coach um what are your thoughts on former quarterback Michael V being named the head coach of North State man so excited for Mike you know I got a chance to be with him and hang with him at a couple of Arthur blanks events and you know just to watch him mature and grow and develop into what he’s doing and everything that’s happening for him couldn’t be more excited for a guy um as Mike T would say 757 and uh get a chance to watch him grow and watch him do what he’s going to do as a coach and can’t wait to see it thanks all right cut you guys off Merry Christmas Merry Christmas
