and this is the Mercedes-Benz Rangers postgame show and in the show me state of Missouri the Rangers waited too long to show up two third period goals provided a pulse But ultimately it’s the 10th loss in 13 games 3-2 the final Blues over the Rangers inside our Delta MSG Studios alongside Steve alette I’m John Ganon the last 10 minutes or so much more in keep keeping with the Rangers with the way they want to look with the way they did look for an early part of this season but those first 50s still a lot to be desired certainly uh the last 10 don’t forgive the first 50 but there was a push back there that this team needed they needed that and the period was a little bit longer who knows but at least they had the look they were intense to get the puck back they commanded the puck they had positioning in front of the goendale 10 but yes of course you’re you’re right John it was a little bit too late yeah during this 13 game Span in which the Rangers have lost 10 times first periods have an issue they’ve allowed 14 first period goals in the last 13 games they allowed one in the first period tonight and it was within the final minute plus of the period and it was scored by a former Ranger pav bunich we’re going to step inside the film room powered by CDW Steve’s going to show you how the blues got on the board uh there’s two areas of weakness for the defense right now and that’s in zone allowing east to west plays as well as off the rush and those two areas really hurt the Rangers in the game now you set up this play here where you’re looking at the pass to go across the ice you get a stop so you’ve got a great stick there now the puck doesn’t get out but you’re on it now the next player to the puck is troch he has a good contact so St Louis now recovers the puck they’re essentially trying to get into their offensive zone setup and they’re trying to set up and and get their schemes going because they know how they want to work it from the corner to slot they’re trying to get their looks but the bad part for the Rangers here is they’ve got three and St Louis has one and that leaves one alone in front for a one-on-one with quick now Rule’s late to get across bunevich is going to receive this and it’s across the slot line it’s an east to west goal and those are exactly the ones that have hurt the Rangers they’ve now allowed 16 like that that’s most in the league now that one there was more unsettled but they had good sticks in the previous three attempts during the sequence so it was Ed but it was just continuous because and you could say this honestly in the first 40 minutes St Louis was faster to recover the puck so for the ninth time in this stretch of 13 the Rangers trailed after the first period and in a span of less than four minutes in the second period the blues made it three nothing with two goals and the common theme was Blues on the move the rush really hurt the Rangers in the second period and it was 30 seconds into the second period where quick was already Under Siege and that really carried on on for the period that was the theme of the second period it was off the rush chances faced and what St Louis was looking to do was as soon as they had people they were leaning in and going forward and I’d like to see a reverse called here from krider so that he can communicate that to lingren and they can go back the other way lingren thinks he can make a bigger play he should keep it simple there and Kyu is very good on breakaways this year a high shooting percentage Breakaway shooter and righties have been dominating glove side now Robert Thomas uh similarly where it’s a two-on-one with time and space and he has the time in space to make his shot one thing we’ve seen with the Rangers is they’re having a hard time defending two on- ones nobody has allowed in the league more two-on-one goals against than the Rangers have this year so these are two areas that have hurt them in the game off the rush specifically odd man rush and in zone uh east to west and those were are is that they would know going into this game that since Jim Montgomery took over for Drew Bannister as the new head coach in St Louis he has really adjusted that and over those periods of games I think it’s been five now they had the best odd man Rush shooting percentage very good Rush team so the Rangers would know this going into the game that’s where I’d like to see the players execute a little bit better than that yeah Jim on gy now 62 and two as the head coach in St Louis his first game when they beat the Rangers at the Garden last month Rangers played tonight without ouri paner and out with an upper body injury day to-day kokako was a healthy scratch they managed only two goals those both came in the third period Adam Fox played nearly 25 minutes tonight he was kept off the board let’s begin our postgame reaction from St Louis with Adam Fox yeah uh I mean I don’t think we generated enough and and I did enough to to win that game and that was about it what do you feel like hindered the offense the most tonight uh it’s been the same story right just kind of one and done in the ozone hav you know sustain many many cycles many you know shifts with sustained pressure make them defend and uh you know it just kind of comes right back at us and bites Us in the ass how much of this has become mental Adam uh yeah you got to think uh you know a bit of it it’s uh yeah it’s definitely and I don’t even know how to describe the feeling right now but uh it’s definitely not good um I mean we we talk we we we talk as a group and say to just you know try and be engaged and and that but uh yeah it’s definitely uh you know wears on you when you know you’re you’re in kind of a streak like this what has been the message in the room in between periods yeah it’s you know it’s trying to you know even after after this period we’re we’re trying to you know come out in the in the third down you know three nothing and not just not just give up uh you know we’ve definitely been been deflated in in games and you can see it just just Spirals and uh yeah I mean like it’s it’s been a lot of the same same messaging same words and you know at some point it’s just got to be you know who wins it’s yeah it’s you come back you score two and you know come back and you could say good effort but uh at some point it’s it’s got to be wins and got to be two points and doesn’t matter how and we’re just not doing that right now obviously you lose ouri before tonight just how much of a of a hit is that and how much is his presence off I mean yeah it’s a guy who’s been a top Point producer and uh he miss players like like that it’s it’s going to hurt you but you know we’re not we’re at no no no point of of this to to make excuses of missing one guy or two guys it’s uh you know everyone has to you know step up and regardless of of who’s playing or not so uh yeah like I said it’s it’s I’ve been a lot of the same same messaging same stuff but at some point it’s it’s got to give and uh got to start you know getting getting some wins so on the emotion of the moment Adam fox saying that it’s the same message the same words but at some point it’s got to be wins and not words but I want to seize upon something he said about what’s happening on the ice Steve he said that it’s the same story one and done in the offensive zone too many times I wonder from you is that more on the Rangers than it is crediting the opposition is it somewhere in between well I guess I could explain this without a dry race board uh if foxy is at the point and he’s trying to get the puck through to the net I have a feeling that it should never get blocked because there are three lanes to the net there is the net itself so if the St Louis player steps up on him he doesn’t shoot it on net John because he’s going to get his shot blocked but let’s imagine that you’ve got troch in the middle you’ve got on the left side of the net uh zabana Jet and on the right side of the net from Fox’s perspective you’ve got krider so three lanes so the good teams what they do is they just get it off the back wall so that maybe zaban could get it or off the blocker so zaban could get it but now it’s predictive from the defenseman delivering it to the net and the three guys that are netfront in this case were just making this up here but tro zanana Jed and krider it’s their responsibility if the puck is delivered in their Lane to be the one that goes and gets it and then you can get support from a defenseman pinching down from the weak side and then you could get your second forward up to fill in but what I’m hearing there is that there’s disconnect between the communication from the pointman to the guy’s netfront by Design how to get pucks back more when you watch Carolina they always get it back because they always have three and three lanes and they’re not getting their shots blocked at the point right and that is the way we saw the Rangers score the goal that made it 3-2 it came off the Stick of will kie after a strong cycle Play Down Low where the Rangers had put the puck toward goal and then maintained it KY his 11th goal of the Season let’s hear what he had to say after this 3-2 loss well we here are your thoughts it was Stronger finish and it seemed that that goal at the end of the first period might not have been the best time goal to give up yeah I mean obviously you never want to give up a goal late in the period I thought first period was okay pretty back and forth not much offense both ways and then second period was was not great and then the push came a little too late for us and again how I mean it’s it’s funny how the brakes work right when it’s going right it’s going right and when it’s not it’s not but I guess you just have to continue to plug away yeah just like you said I mean we just got to keep fighting keep battling I mean I thought we showed a good push at the end there last 10 minutes but you know that’s not good enough to Win Hockey games you know we got to be able to play a full 60 minutes and we we weren’t able to do that tonight and again your goal looked like just simple stuff win a battle get it to the front of the net and shoot it yeah it’s just hard work just keeping it simple you know couple rims behind the net good pinch by the D and just a nice play to the middle there I just try to get it on net the goal from coie but the L not playing a full 60 minutes
