day two of the 12 days of MLB rankings is here and of course you saw the title we are ranking every first baseman from every team in major league baseball from worst to best if you miss the catcher rankings make sure you check that out after you watch this video and make sure you’re also subscribed so you don’t miss out any of the rankings coming at you over the next few days I saw the comment section of yesterday got a little spicy I can’t wait to see what you guys got for me in today’s comment section for first base rankings enough of my blab and let’s get to it get the first base ranking started at number 35 I’ve got John Singleton of the Houston Astros Singleton really wouldn’t be the everyday first base guy if it wasn’t for Jose Abu being so incredibly bad he’s about a League average hitter he gets on base a decent bit 13 homers 13 doubles in 119 games just doesn’t really do much to move the needle for a guy who’s going into his 33-year old season John Singleton just not really the guy you want every single day next up at number 34 I’ve got Miami Marlins projected first baseman Jonah bride Jonah bride actually had a really nice 70 game stretch last year 11 Homer 10 doubles 39 RBI with a 276 average 357 on base 461 slugging and 818 Ops for an open PS Plus at 121 but we’ve seen him now play about 160 games in the majors and he has been a below average hitter one thing that is for sure Jon brde is very patient at the plate he takes good swings makes good swing decisions doesn’t swing and miss a lot and he walks a decent bit so there is something here with Jonah bride I just don’t know if a 5% Barrel rate and just not being the greatest Fielder is going to play at first base for the future but he’s definitely a major league baseball player that should deserve some playing time on the Marlins next year also former South Carolina Gamecock Go Cox for the 33rd best first baseman Juan YZ maybe of the the Washington Nationals last year you got a chance with the Nationals in 62 games six homers 15 doubles 26 RBI hitting 283 with a 335 on base 429 slugging and a 764 Ops for an Ops Plus at 116 I don’t honestly see him being the everyday guy at first base for the Nationals next year I think they might hit the free agent Market he’s only going into his 27y old season he’s a former pretty well-known Prospect in the Cardinals organization I’m interested to see what he could do if he got everyday playing time down a few spots here at number 32 I’ve got Andrew vaugh of the Chicago White Soxs I just can’t keep ranking them anymore I mean it’s been four seasons of basically playing 130 games a year where he refuses to really do anything different than what he’s done in the year before 20 homers 30 doubles 70 RB a 101 Ops Plus for his career last year he was 99 the year before he was 102 I’m just waiting for the breakout for Andrew vaugh A guy who we know can be a better hitter but it just is not happening hasn’t happened anytime soon this is may be a harsh ranking but I’m just kind of exhausted from Andrew vaugh right now just missing out in the top 30 at number 31 I’ve got Tyler soderstrom of the Oakland A’s Sodom is now played in 100 Major League games in granted the first 45 were really bad the last 61 were much better but still in those 1062 homers 11 doubles 33 RB hitting 204 a 282 on base 354 slugging and a 636 Ops for an Ops plus 82 last year again he was much better cut down on the K rate a bit start to walk a little bit more he hits the ball hard he just hasn’t gotten consistent enough playing time where it’s still a little bit tough to decide what kind of player sodam will be going into his 23-year old season getting the top 30 started at number 30 Yankees projected first baseman Ben rice one of the few ivy league boys in Major League Baseball Ben rice came up and was really good at the start for the Yankees but lack of consistent playing time plus an absolutely insane cold streak Ben rice lost his starting job when Rizzo came back he played in 50 games last year seven homers six doubles 23 RBIs a 171 average with a 264 on base 613 slugging for an Ops Plus at 72 he has great play discipline he does hit the ball decently hard think there’s a good player in there somewhere where you don’t give up on a guy like Ben rice just yet but you don’t feel comfortable if he’s your everyday option former first round pick paven Smith of the Arizona Diamondbacks coming in at number 29 in today’s video paven Smith is a confusing player because at times he can show you what he can be and it’s kind of exciting he is a decent little hitter and last year in 60 games with the Dbacks he had an Ops Plus at 145 and Ops near 900 granted it’s because he had a monster game during the season on September 8th Smith hit three homers and four at bats and that made his Ops jump nearly 200 points but he’s shown the ability to be very patient at the plate a walk rate over 10% for his career with a K rate around 20% I’m not sure if he’ll get everyday playing time in Arizona this year this is kind of the make or Breaky year I think for him but as of right now he’s their everyday guy projected so we’re going to rank him for the 28th best first baseman in Major League Baseball I’m going to talk about free agent Anthony Rizzo Rizzo just kind of got old pretty quickly he’s dealt with some real injuries the last couple years with the Yankees hasn’t played 100 games since 2022 this year it was really bad when he came back eight homers 12 doubles 35 RBIs a 228 average 301 on base 335 slugging and a 637 Ops for an Ops Plus at 81 w we were just starting to see the fall off and at this point I think it’s worth it to be a little more critical of him rather than give him the benefit of the doubt if he proves me wrong awesome for Anthony Rizzo but I’m going to take a lot of the younger more fresher faces right now than Rizzo on a decline next up at number 27 Minnesota Twins first baseman hose Miranda this bottom of the list these are guys that are all kind of borderline starters it depends where some other free agents go Miranda did have a hot streak in 2024 he is a pretty good hitter hit well in the miners I know he had that streak of consecutive hits last year he ended up finishing with nine homers 28 doubl four triples and 49 RBI hitting 284 with a 322 on base 441 slugging and a 763 Ops for an Ops Plus at 112 so there’s definitely some stuff there again Miranda is more valuable because he is a utility player can play a bunch of different positions but as of right now slotted as the first baseman in Minnesota just missing on the top 25 at number 26 I’ve got Rocky’s first baseman Michael toia toia is a three true outcome guy he had 25 homers 14 doubles three triples and 55 RBI last year he stole 10 bases which is kind of a fun little Wrinkle in his game 28 average 311 on base 456 slugging and a 767 Ops for an Ops Plus at 105 he’ll be a fun little player I think in a full season you’re looking at a 30 home run of year guy out in Coors but the lack of consistency I mean it’s kind of Boomer bus with Michael toia and we’ve seen that now over the last few years it’s a little dangerous not as consistent which is why I have him just outside the top 25 dropping down a full 10 spots here at number 25 I’ve got jamer candelario of the Cincinnati Reds oh man I really thought jamer was going to pop off in Cincinnati but it was a pretty atrocious year for him he obviously still has the power but that’s because it’s one of the most hitter friendly ballparks in the game 20 homers 23 doubles in 112 games with 56 RBIs hitting 225 with a 279 on base 429 Slug and a 707 Ops for an Ops Plus at 90 Kario I think very much can bounce back this upcoming season like he is a good hitter but the patience was completely gone in Cincinnati that he showed in more of his successful Seasons he wasn’t even really hitting doubles it was just a bad year overall he’s only 31 but man if the Reds want to do anything he’s got to step up quickly at number 24 I’ve got Nolan shanu of the Los Angeles Angels Nolan is a confusing player I will say pleasantly surprised that we saw some power improvements in his game last year I mean he’s a huge human he’s 6’4 220 the power should be there he got to 13 homers 19 doubles 54 RBIs and sold 10 bases he’s an onbase machine 343 on base but a 362 slugging with a 706 Ops basically makes him a League average hitter now he’s only 23 years old and we did see an improvement in the power department for him if he continues to build more power I think there’s a world where he gets higher and higher on these rankings but as of right now going into the season I’m still a little cautiously pessimistic on a guy like Shanel who’s just not really much of a power hitter at a position where you need to hit some home runs next up at number 23 one of the more disappointing players of the Season Spencer Tolson and the Detroit Tigers I mean Tolson got sent down last year it got so bad for me ended up only playing 92 games at the major league level 10 homers 21 doubles 37 RB and an Ops at 669 with an on base below 300 a batting average at 219 like it was a nightmare season no doubt the one thing I will say is that the first half versus second half splits for Spencer Tolson are much better in the second half he had an Ops at 781 as opposed to under 600 in the first half he had a great month of August was a big part of their playoff push but we’ve now seen torlon struggle a few different times pitchers seem to make adjustments to him quickly can the former number one overall pick actually break out this season we’ll have to wait and see another big dropper in today’s video at number 22 down 10 spots Reese Hoskins of the Milwaukee Brewers while Hoskins did put up decent power numbers again 26 home runs he had only 14 doubles so 40 extra base hits in 131 games kind of not what you signed up four of course he is coming back from a major injury so it makes sense that his numbers went down a little bit but it was the worst year of his career 214 average 303 on base 419 slugging and a 722 Ops for an Ops Plus at 98 a below League average hitter again I’m giving him a little bit of the benefit of the doubt here not dropping him too too far but I don’t think he’s a top 20 first baseman right now and also don’t like Reese oskins these are my rankings put at 22 just missing on the top 20 at number 21 I’ve got Josh Bell it was a tail of two seasons last year for Bell started the year out in Miami was absolutely horrible 89 Ops Plus PS below 700 he wasn’t good then he went to Arizona and for 41 games he was amazing fing in for Christian Walker when he was injured 279 average 361 on base 796 Ops for an Ops Plus at 121 Josh Bell is confusing because we all know that there’s Talent there but man he just almost never puts it together for a full season I have him outside the top 20 ahead of some of these guys cuz I just got a feeling that maybe something clicked in Arizona but it’s kind of crazy how we’re still waiting for the Josh Bell breakout and he’s going to be turning 32 getting the top 20 started at number 20 I somehow have Justin Turner here and I don’t feel great about it but Justin Turner just kind of keeps hitting he wasn’t great in Toronto but he was great in Seattle in the 48 game stretch where he had an Ops Plus at 128 he was getting on base he doesn’t strike out the power is definitely not the same that he once was only 11 homers and 24 doubles but I think on some of these teams where I have him ranked ahead of guys he would be an upgrade for them at the first base position somehow someway Justin Turner is still mashing at the age of 40 years old this could definitely age like milk but until he proves that he can’t hit I’m cool with Justin Turner being in the top 20 the biggest drop in today’s video without a doubt Paul goldshmid at number 19 wow Paul gmid oh my God the fallof is like catastrophically fast I know in 2023 he finished with a20 Ops plus but if you remember the second half of the Season he was terrible and that carried over into 2024 still hit 22 homers 33 double 65 RBI stle 11 bases I am being a little bit harsh but we’re seeing such a rapid decl of Paul gold Schmid while he hit his 36 37 year old Seasons I’m really concerned as what it’s going to be I know he was an MVP back in 2022 but right now all the guys in this list ahead of him I seriously would take over him he just not the same player doesn’t have the same pop maybe a reunion with Arizona could help if that’s the path he takes but right now Paul goldmit just not the MVP player he once was up a few spots here at number 18 I’ve got San Francisco Giants first baseman Lamont Wade Lamont Wade is a criminally underrated first baseman similarly to Nolan chenuel he doesn’t hit for much power but what he does better is he gets on base at a better clip and he just is a better hitter in a tougher ballpark he’s more of a platoon guy so keep that in mind that’s why these numbers don’t get him higher up but it’s the second straight season of an Ops plus above 120 second straight season with an on base percentage above 370 and his Ops is always right around 800 while playing in San Francisco as a lefty Lamont Wade is just straight up a good ball player easy top 21st Bas all right here we go people are going to be mad at number 17 I’ve got Luis rise of the San Diego Padres guys I don’t care that he hit 314 I don’t care that he won the batting title for the third straight year he hit four home runs at the first base position his Ops plus which again kind of neutralizes your numbers and tells you how much better you are as a hitter than the league average was 106 he was 6% better than League average hitting that includes hitting 314 this year it’s not that I think he’s a bad player it’s just I think he’s overrated I think he gets way too much press when he was a one win player last year for the Padre’s 200 hits are amazing he is one of the elite contact hitters in the game but in the grand scope of things four home runs 46 RBIs and a 739 Ops from first base is not going to put you in that Elite category like some people think it’s not going to put you in the top 10 to me he’s middle of the- pack number 17 here for the 16th best first baseman in Major League Baseball dropping a few spots I’ve got Vinnie pasquantino of the Kansas Cate Royals Vinnie P injury bug bit him again a little bit this year missed some games due to some injuries only 131 which is still good considering what we’ve seen from him 19 homers 30 doubles 97 RBIs a 262 average 315 on base 446 slugging and a 760 Ops for an Ops Plus at 111 he’s a very good baseball player I think we’re not going to see that 380 on base for a little bit like we saw back in 2022 when pasquantino really came onto the scene but being a better than League average hitter over at first base he’s a pretty good ball player and I think there is more room for growth for a guy like Vinnie p over over 50 extra base hits last year that’s pretty decent get in the top 15 start at number 15 I’ve got Ryan Mount Castle of the Baltimore Orioles and nobody can be more happy the Orioles are moving in the Great Wall of Baltimore than Ryan Mount Castle cuz he actually does kind of mash he has good exit Vos hits the ball consistently hard he just had an impossible part to play it look back to 2021 2022 he was a guy who was hitting 20 to 30 home runs a season last year it was down to 13 again because of the Great Wall of Baltimore and only playing 124 games but he still had 30 doubles 63 RBI like a lot of those are going to go over the fence again 733 Ops for an Ops Plus at 1133 he’s a nice little player who I think could pop off next year with the changes to the park crazy to say it but at number 14 Carlos Santana I mean this dude will not die he is just so awesome Carlos Santana as a player at age 38 last year he was one of the most valuable first baseman in the league won a goal glove hit 23 homers with 26 doubles had an on base percentage 100 points higher than his batting average an Ops at 750 and Ops Plus at 110 he’s just simply a really good first baseman I think criminally underrated underappreciated he does a lot of things that a lot of baseball teams could use on their team if they want to be more successful can’t wait to see where he ends up this year he’s going to be 39 in April and he’s still just absolutely crushing it for the 13th best first basement in today’s video I’m going with Michael Bush of the Chicago Cubs Michael Bush had a really nice First full season as a Chicago Cub 152 games 21 homers 28 doubl 65 RBI hitting 248 with a 335 on base 440 slugging and a 775 Ops for an Ops Plus at 118 21 homers 28 doubles 65 RBIs like I said the D is driving in runs hitting the ball really well they have control over him for a long time I know the Cubs gave up some sick prospects that might come back to haunt them with the Dodgers but Michael Bush was a really nice grab for this team a guy who’s going to be a part of this franchise for many years to come sneaky here 12th best first baseman in Major League Baseball Seattle Mariners Luke rley have you guys seen what Luke ry’s done I know he hasn’t played first base completely but at the plate Luke rley the last two years has just kind of mashed I know he’s a big platoon guy but even still I mean he’s just crushing the baseball and he’s playing more consistently now last year 22 homers 19 doubles 58 RBI with 11 stolen bases hitting 243 with a 320 on base 463 slugging for an Ops at 783 Ops plus 129 that’s the second straight year of an Ops plus 25 points higher than the league average I think he’s a criminally underrated player like he hits the ball really hard he’s a great athlete I think the Mariners might sneaky have a really good player here in Luke rley he’s just a really good player he’s almost a top 10 first baseman dropping out of the top 10 and just missing out by one spot I’ve got Nathaniel low of the Texas Rangers won the first base position is starting to get loaded now once we get towards the top 10 here and two he just didn’t have that extra oomph that he had the last couple Seasons when he was ranked inside the top 10 like 16 home runs career low when he’s played a full season only 16 doubles 69 RBI like the counting numbers went down the Ops plus was better but not where it once was he’s an on based machine he puts the ball in play he’s a very good player I just don’t have him inside the top 10 right now but he’s super close I mean 120 Ops plus that’s fantastic for Nathaniel low he’s a really good ball player getting the top 10 started at the number 10 spot I’ve got Josh Naylor of the Cleveland Guardians Naylor is sneaky one of the better hitting first baseman in Major League Baseball last year 152 games 31 homers 27 doubles 108 RBI that’s awesome 243 average 320 on base 456 slugging for a 776 Ops and Ops Plus at 118 I mean you look at his last three years he’s an Ops plus guy above 120 with a lot of pop in that bat crushes the baseball you know he’s getting a little bit concerning in the field at times and Cleveland does play to his strong suits with the way the ball flies out to right field but I really do like Josh nayor as a player I think he’s a top 10 guy for sure in the exact same spot as last year I’ve got Tristan kasas first baseman of the Boston Red Sox coming in at number nine kasas dealt with injuries only played 60 games but in those 60 he was pretty awesome 13 homers eight doubles 32 RBIs a 240 average 337 on base 462 slugging and 800 Ops for an Ops Plus at 120 he’s a really good ball player the dude’s got tree trunks for legs he hits the ball hard he can get on base he’s only 24 years old going into his 25-year-old season we actually have the same birthday shout out Tristan casus January 15th I know there’s been some rumors about the Red Sox maybe looking to trade him for pitching but I think they should keep this guy around he’s a really good player and going to be great for the future down a few spots here at number eight I’ve got yandi Diaz of the Tampa Bay Rays just had to drop him down a few he did not live up to the previous years that he had where he was a 140 Ops plus guy he was still great 14 homers 31 doubles 65 RBIs a 280 average 341 on base 414 slugg and 755 Ops for an Ops Plus at 116 but he wasn’t getting MVP votes he didn’t have an on base percentage above 400 could be the fact that the Tampa B Ray are so bad and I would expect them to look to move him this off season but he’s still a top 10 first baseman and he’s just hits the ball so hard just hit in the air yandi please new position who this at number seven I’ve got wils canus first basem of the St Louis Cardinals yes Cardinals announced wils contas will be playing first base and I think it’s a good move cuz at the plate he’s been great you want that bat in the lineup as much as possible in 84 games last year 15 homers 17 doubles you’re looking at a guy who could be a 30 Homer 30 double guy a year easy at first base he finished with an 848 Ops a 380 on base percentage and if there was ever anything wrong with this game it was his defense put him at first base let him be a little more athletic scoop some balls I love this move by the Cardinals and to be fair Wilson cont trer mashes number seven’s a safe spot just missing out on the top five at number six I’ve got Christian Walker first baseman formerly of the Arizona Diamondbacks also a South Carolina Gamecock Christian Walker is just really good Christian Walker is awesome if there’s a first basement on the free agent Market that you want that you’re going to get good value for and get great defense along with some power Christian Walker is the guy 26 homers 26 doubles 84 RB last year with an 803 Ops for an Ops Plus at 21 lock him in he’s 20% better than League average every year at the plate he gets on base he’s a big game hitter drives and runs plays great defense there’s nothing not to like about Christian Walker just outside the top five though because getting the top five started at number five hopefully a New York Met again but we still have no idea I’m going with pet Lonzo Alonzo in what was probably the worst year of his career was still kind of a better offensive player than Christian Walker 34 homers 31 doubles 88 RBI and an Ops Plus at 123 788 Ops defensively he’s definitely a butcher at first base but he is a lead at Scoops we know he has the most Scoops in baseball so he’s sick over there and I mean this is a guy who can hit 40 home runs a year he’s just a year off of driving in 118 Pete Alonzo definitely is a top five first baseman in the game I’m interested to see if he comes back with the Mets if he goes somewhere else I hope it’s with the orange and blue but if not I wish the best for Pete top five first baseman regardless down a couple spots here at number four I’m going with Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves I think just have to drop him down a few spots because he did kind of bounced back in the wrong way last year fell off I guess you could say it was not a great season for him he played all 162 but finished with less than 30 homers 37 doubles 98 RBI after hitting 54 and 139 the prior year a 247 average 333 on base 457 slugging and 790 Ops was an Ops Plus at 118 I didn’t want to put him down too far because I mean guys he h 54 home runs in 2023 he’s obviously a stud and he’s a great first baseman but that down tick does make me need to drop him down a few even though I wouldn’t be surprised if he hits 50 in 2025 he’s that good dropping down two spots here at number three I’m going to go with Freddy Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers it’s honestly like such a tie between him and the guy in second place I feel dirty putting Freddy Freeman at three because the numbers are insane I mean the last two years he’s got like an Ops Plus at 150 he’s a 300 hitter gets on base 40% of the time hits 30 home runs a season with like 40 50 doubles he did take a little bit of a step back in 2024 from his previous year but it’s not that there’s anything wrong with that he was an MVP candidate the last five seasons this year he finished 17th in the MVP voting like there’s nothing not to like about Freddy Freeman besides the age and he’s not really shown any signs of slowing down he’s still one of the the premier hitters in the entire game but I have him at three ever so slightly because just slightly ahead of him at number two I’m going with Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies Harper just really is that guy he’s that dude he’s everything you’d ever want finished six in the MVP voting 30 home runs 42 doubles 87 RBI a 285 average 373 on base 525 slugging 898 Ops for an Ops Plus at 149 like the numbers are just so ridiculously good oh Bryce Harper the National League East is crazy he is going to be a future Hall of Famer just like Freddy Freeman and I think just him being 32 next year as opposed to Fred Freeman’s 35 I think it’s more likely Harper will have the better season than Freeman which is why I put him at two which means coming in as the best first baseman in Major League Baseball in my opinion for the 2025 season up seven spots from last year Vlad Guerrero Jr of the Toronto Blue Jays yeah vlad’s back vlad’s back vlad’s back he had that one year off back in 2023 and honestly shame on me for writing him off as quickly as I did because he bounced back in 20241 30 homers 44 doubles 103 RBIs a 323 average 396 on base 544 slugging and 940 Ops for an Ops Plus at 166 guys he had a 10-point higher batting average than Lis arise did and he hit 30 homers and 44 doubles and drove in 103 now defensively he’s got awful at first base he’s horrendous over there but when you have a 91st percentile Barrel rate and you hit the ball hard and you don’t strike out and you get on base and you hit home runs and you’re just as amazing as Vlad Guerrero Jr is uh you’re the best first baseman in the league it’s going to be 26 next year on opening day we’ve seen six seasons of Vlad Jr already he’s a free agent this upcoming year in 2020 26 he’s about to get paid and I fully expect him to pop off knowing that this year Vlad junr best first baseman in baseball so
