a long time but was it ugly really or were there some things about this game that were downright beautiful and the grand scheme of things is you’re trying to build this team moving forward with the notified of all new episodes all the other ways you can support the channel are linked Down Below in the description as is the episode I did last week about all of the many sort of layered reasons that the Seahawks have lost HomeField advantage or seemingly lost HomeField Advantage at Lumen field um that link is down below as well that has garnered some really interesting and compelling opinions for many of you and reaction certainly as the Seahawks finished their season three and six at home but the saving grace and the reason they’re still in this playoff race 6- one now on the road after beating the Bears 6 to3 today the Bears 10th straight loss uh if you’re watching live on YouTube be sure to get your comments and questions and takes in there whether you’re watching this streaming it on Twitter or on YouTube or on Facebook your comments should all come uh to the central area here I’ll be able to get them up on the screen for you um let’s do this let’s recap the game first a little bit and then we’ll kind of kind of look at some big picture stuff then take your questions and comments and then I’ll finish with my take at the end about about the one person on this staff I see I might have given it away already on the payroll period as I said in the intro that uh they might have a hard time making an argument that they should keep their job um this game started in a really in a real promising way the Seahawks started with the football first Bears won the toss I like to defer as most teams do unless you’re the Green Bay Packers and you know you’re going to drive down the field on the Seahawks then you elect to take the ball um a CX get the ball first and they moved the football right down the field running the football it was so much fun to watch of course Ken Walker out announced today on inur reserve he’ll be out for the rest of the year I think if my math is correct the first the only opportunity he would have to play again this year is if the Seahawks advance to the NFC championship game uh so Ken Walker seasoned likely in the books Zack shanet takes over again ends up finishing with uh let’s look at the final numbers here uh Zack shanet 15 carries 57 yards an average of 3.8 not that impressive but he had some big runs uh also caught three passes for 19 yards and Kenny Macintosh also got seven Touches for 46 yards 6.6 yards per carry really effective again for Kenny Macintosh I think you’re going to hear um you’re going to hear a lot of cries throughout the next week and a half as we head into that last Rams game that maybe Macintosh deserves some more touches so between the two of them 22 touches between the two running backs where I believe last week it was 14 total but just looking back at that first drive uh 48 rushing yards on the first drive seven of the first nine plays were run some of them were big runs in fact you know what let’s just go through the drive as a whole I’m going to put my glasses on for this if you’re watching on YouTube um first play they start with a little short pass to Tyler Lockett and then here we go Zack shanet left end for six yards Zack shanet left tackle for two yards on Third and one and I thought what was key here that we saw is Seahawks came out in heavy Personnel not heavy in the sense of an eligible lineman but they brought out 13 Personnel three tight ends all stacked to the left side and they didn’t mess around they just ran the football that direction shanet followed his blocks got a couple of yards s on Third and one to get the first down right then I thought okay this is a little bit different this is what we needed to see Ryan grub on Third and short has been really bad for most of this year likes to throw the ball a lot on Third and short likes to go empty and shotgun a lot we’ll talk about that in just a second but even when they run the football tries to get cute run to the weak side or just leave his tackles on an island run out of wide gun they came out in this case three tight ends to the strong side hand it to shanet picks up the first down I thought okay maybe this is going to be a little bit different then Shan left guard 11 yards then a short pass from Gino Smith to Noah Fant who had a really nice game tonight for 15 yards and then Macintosh Right Guard for two yards Macintosh left guard for for 25 yards the burst from Kenny McIntosh and and the decisiveness shanet is a little bit of slow low runner almost not as Extreme as like a Le’Veon Bell and how patient we used to remember him being and waiting for his blocks to develop before he made a decision but almost in the sense that it’s it’s hard to watch him sometimes I I think back to the New England game early in the season where he just he’s not as quick to his first step that’s the thing we like about about Walker right first step boom he’s he’s almost up to full speed it’s just his steps aren’t as efficient and sometimes they’re not going the direction we want to see Zack sharet much more decisive once he does choose the hole but he’s much more patient and it’s it’s a little it takes him getting used to because you have to you know inside you’re thinking go go go but he’s been very very effective his vision and his his process in choosing the hole is very good McIntosh for two yards and then the 20 5 y uh Macintosh again for two yards Zack shanet for five yards so they get down to the Chicago nine they’re just marching right down the field like we haven’t seen this and the first thing I’m thinking is okay if they can start to do this well actually the first thing I thought was yet another step forward for this offensive line we’ll get into that a little bit more uh as it as it pertains to pass protection as well but I thought this this changes the whole offense this opens up the whole offense this makes things easier on Gino Smith opens up the the play action game there might be some deep shot shots in this game that’s what I’m thinking first of all I couldn’t have been more wrong but then I thought okay we’re going to get our first opening drive touchdown in over a year 20 games it had been 19 the Seahawks don’t get one on this drive because on Third and three Ryan grub comes out yet again they’re running the football right down the Bears throats with both running backs effective left side and right side so what do they do third and three goes empty backfield goes empty backfield goo Smith tries to throw it over the middle into into coverage it’s too tight ball almost gets picked what the hell are you doing Ryan grub third and three from the nine yard line you’ve run for 48 yards on this drive and you go empty not even the threat of running theot football that’s a thing and I saw a lot of this on Twitter as well and blue sky like I you know don’t mind throwing the football there but have the threat of a run you’ve been killing them they’re on their heels they’re getting hit in the face up until that point this drive for the Seahawks resembled what the Green Bay Packers did to us two weeks ago at home run the football right down the field get us on our heels get a score early play from ahead and the Seahawks just kind of let the Bears off the hook third and three they go empty not even a threat of running the football unbelievable they they settle for the field goal they get the three nothing lead and they go three and out on defense three and out on offense five plays on defense get off the field offense goes three and out again three and out on the defense I mean you get the point right Chicago finally got a field goal late in the first quarter a 9 playay 43 yd drive to tie it up at three let’s SE answer right away to make it 63 and that’s the ball game like that’s the game with 2 minutes and 11 seconds left in the first half game’s over we obviously didn’t know it at the time but then you know it was still it was one of those games where you know Chicago got the ball back had a chance maybe to score at the end of the half didn’t have a lot of time and then they get the ball to start the second half but Seahawks come out and go three and out defense was locked down absolutely locked down lowest point total they G gave up all season you know look at the the Chicago drives in the second half alone three plays Five plays six plays six plays and then on the final drive where they had a chance to to tie or potentially take the lead and win 13 plays to go 49 yards in 5 minutes and it ends with a reek Wallen interception as the Seahawks pass rush gets to Caleb William and forces him out of the pocket this was a dominant performance by this Seattle defense the only thing the bear do in this one is there were a couple third and longs they converted a fourth and long on that last Drive where Caleb Williams kind of did his thing got out got out of the pocket in movement throwing the ball in the Run couple of great catches romad dun came up with one it’s really all they had going for there was no there wasn’t a single play I can recall in this entire game or that I have in my notes where Caleb Williams just dropped back stuck his foot in the ground on time made a made a made a throw with any depth on it at all it just this seemed like the kind of game that even though it was close the whole way and even though the offense couldn’t get anything going you didn’t feel like the Bears could score unless something fluky happened there was a moment in the second half when was that uh where it look for a second like they might have scored a touchdown on on a a big sack fumble or no it wasn’t a sack fumble it was a pharaoh Brown fumble where the ball was stripped and uh and it looked like the player ran for a touchdown crowd was going crazy Bears Take the Lead but uh but the defender was ruled down by contact and Seattle stopped him after that like they just Chicago fans were booing in this one just about every time the offense came off the field uh outstanding job by the Seattle defense um let’s look at what some of the team stats I know they at one point they had sacked Caleb Williams six times I think that’s what it ended up nope they ended up with seven there was a a play where he was scrambling and they they tackled him before the line of scrimmage it was really spread out nobody had two Devin Witherspoon with a sack he was outstanding tonight I take that back Leonard Williams is the one that had that last sack he had two on the night another big performance for him four quarterback hits three tackles for loss for Leonard will Willams uchen nosu had a sack he looked as healthy as he has all year jiren Reed had a sack raan Jenkins had a sack Derk Hall with a sack seven total 10 tackles for loss three passes defensed and 10 quarterback hits Caleb Williams has now been sacked 66 times on the season um outstanding job by the Seattle defense really spread it around nobody with more than six tackles Deon Witherspoon had six three tackles for loss couple of outstanding plays he was a guy that you could feel out there today everybody was flying around um Josh joob was playing well had to come off the field in the fourth quarter haven’t heard the latest on his potential injury let’s hope that’s not very serious but well I’ll get to this when I get to the superlatives somebody stepped up in his place that was really really impressive uh at halftime of this one again Seahawks lead 6-3 and you just feel like they had it under control and I even tweeted out I think early in the second half Seahawks just need to score one more time and it feels like this one’s over and they never really got close never got close and uh Kirk herb Street made a point during the halftime show of pointing out that it was Gino Smith’s lowest air yards per attempt of his Seahawk career don’t know have to see the all 22 don’t know if those were that was a coverage issue but it sure looked like to me here’s what it looked like to me let’s just get into the Ryan grub thing now I don’t think he’s back next year I don’t up until this point the biggest concern the thing that people were pounding the table about the most was seah couldn’t run the ball or he wouldn’t stick with the run his commitment to the running game was outstanding tonight even ran on Third and medium a couple of times like wasn’t as predictable there were even even a couple of times for all you hear about his predictability when it comes to down distance and formation and the biggest biggest example that you hear is that anytime they’re under Center and they they go play action they fake the run to the weak side of the formation but they never actually run the football out of the weak side to the weak side of the formation from under Center and so they’re faking to something they never do which gives it defense in Advantage right they’re not going to take the fake seriously today there was one example I can recall vividly there may have been more than one where they went under Center handed the ball to shanet to the weak side so maybe a little progress there but what happened to the passing game tonight and I as you know every single game unless he throws for 350 yards with no interceptions and three touchdowns Gino Smith stinks tired of I’m tired of that conversation we’ll have it in the offseason people have misinterpreted what I’ve said because they listen to to one show instead of all of them Gino Smith tonight looked to me like he was off and I think that knee is impacting him there was one time particular could have easily run for a third or for a first down on Third and short in the first half he decided to try to to throw it to jsn instead the ball got knocked down uh he did pick up a conversion in the second half where he ran the football but he just there were a couple of uncharacteristic misses another third down throw to jsn in the first half that just jsn was wide open he just kind of air mailed the pass that can happen sometimes when you have a knee injury it just throws your mechanics off you can’t plant transfer your weight the same way in the post game when all the players are going to Midfield and they’re shaking hands he seemed to be favoring that leg limping a little bit so maybe the extra half a week off before they play the Rams uh next weekend will do him some good but I thought I thought it was a classic case we see this from Ryan grub where here’s what I imagine his thought process is because for the second week in a row I thought the offensive line did a really good job last week no sacks till the fourth quarter this week three sacks but for the most part be interesting to see the time to throw stats for the most part really excellent pass protection that line really seems to be improving each week and coming together probably no coincidence that it’s the same five guys now that have played together for what five weeks continuity matters but yet I think Ryan grub in those situations thinks okay we’re running the football a little bit the offensive Line’s holding up well in pass protection let’s try to let’s try to go downfield we didn’t take any shots Gino didn’t let anything go over 15 yards maybe let’s see what his long was um it doesn’t show it here um but no quick game no quick game at all it just seems like you know against a defense that that was that was trying to be aggressive on a natural grass field where it looked like the field was in good good shape temperature wasn’t an issue in Chicago for December 26 Seahawks dodgeable it there was like mid-40s the whole game but a steady rank so not perfect conditions and I just thought they got away from the quick game I I I just don’t understand why we can’t see Ryan grub put all the pieces of the puzzle together in one game this would seem to be the game to do it it might be the first time all year that they went up against a team that had a glaring weakness and attacked that weakness and succeeded at it in some respect specs and that is that the the Bears are 20 eth in the league in Run Stop win rate Seahawks ran the football effectively against him at least in the first half let me see what the difference is here took some screenshots so at halftime the Seahawks had 91 yards rushing they finished with 122 so just 31 yards rushing in the second half uh overall they outgained the Bears 265 yards 279 the same number of drives yards per play 5.2 to 3.1 that’s outstanding gin was 17 out of 23 for 160 yards see he was he was accurate was spreading the ball all over the place nobody had more than four catches that was Noah Fant DK with three for 42 jsn with 3 for 32 Tyler Lockett with three for 20 Zack Sharon three for 19 phoh Brown had a catch and then the fumble really spread it around just no no big plays down the field 23 yards to DK metcafe the longest pass play it didn’t even take any shots longer than that there weren’t even any kind of you know shots across the bow to try and get the bearss on their heels a little bit would have lik to have seen that especially when he had time to throw just take a couple deep shots even if they’re not there send a message I always feel like you should do that two three times a game anyway plus the way the League’s being officiated officiated these days good chance you’re going to get DPI if you take a couple of deep shots just didn’t have that so again felt like what was working in the first half didn’t work as well in the second half Grub’s ability to make adjustments first half of the Season seemed to be pretty solid there’s a couple games where the offense got better as the game went along lately this the trend seems to be the opposite of that and yet again they get off to another poor start 20 straight games now without a touchdown on the first drive and I just felt like that drive was torpedoed by just a stupid decision to go empty backfield from the nine yd line on Third and three when you’re running the football I to me that’s a perfect spot to go under Center you still want to throw the football cool go play action maybe a little roll out even out a gun I don’t mind throwing the football there but not like that you just I I just think you concede an advantage to the defense especially from the nine it just shrinks the field you can’t it’s tougher to find spacing I don’t understand that it’s really really really frustrating for me um interesting finish to the game as well I’ll just kind of take you through some of my notes um with the Bears take over with five minutes left chance to win it in a game they felt uh a game that felt like it was under control for the Seahawks the whole way so it got a little scary there on that last drive because anything can happen right you get a guy behind somebody um Caleb got a lot more care free on that drive in the sense that he took off running a couple of times converted a couple third and Longs that way they were playing like a team that had nothing to lose then it comes down to Third and two three minutes left Seahawks bring pressure and it ends up on it ends up as a fourth and one Caleb Williams tries to run it up the middle he gets stopped just short fourth and one they decide to go for it they line up in shotgun then they call a timeout then they come out under Center get a false start on Jake Curran there were some Seattle storylines here one of which of course Daryl Taylor was now with the Bears after the trade early in the season had two sacks in his first game with the Bears none since had a sack tonight of course we didn’t have the Shane walren storyline because he’s been fired but Jake Curran was starting at left guard because of some injuries there and had two key penalties in this game to thwart drives so that that forced him into four fourth and sixth they come out in punt formation the fans are booing like crazy then they call a timeout and then they decide to go for it Seahawks bring a ton of pressure um Caleb scrambles out to the right throws it into traffic to DJ Moore catches the ball sliding catch great catch great play great catch and so you thought and I even wrote in my notes [ __ ] so it comes down to a minute 57 left Seattle up 63 Chicago had two of their timeouts second and 15 on the Chicago 44 and that’s when I think that’s when I mentioned it earlier but but Trey Brown came up with an outstanding play Bears Tred to swing it out to the left and Trey Brown absolutely blew up his block and made the play uh for basically no gain outstanding play by Trey Brown after really really rough game last week against Minnesota of course he gets the offsides call on a third down stop what would have been a third down stop and on the next play gives up a touchdown Justin Jefferson really swung that game uh ends up then minute 30 left it’s third and 14 uh and Caleb Williams converts another one of those plays right scrambling around hits a Dunes on a sliding catch very very similar to the first one into double coverage made it another f word in my notes then they uh but then the Bears do us a favor and here’s where that here’s that Christmas wait wait wait that’s not the right come on now come on Dan learn your own mixer I was just going to throw a little uh it’s when the seah got a little bit of a a Christmas gift there uh bad clock management by the Bears which ironically is what got got Matt Eber flus fired earlier of the season but they let 40 seconds click off uh the clock um so it gets down to less than a minute left they have to take their second time out they only have one left Seahawks Force three straight in completions after that and then instead of attempting a 57 yard field goal by Cairo Santos who career long is 53 they decide to go for him fourth and 10 and uh seea get a lot of pressure Kobe Bryant blitzing off the left and gets to Caleb Williams gets in his face forces him to throw it um and rck Willen comes down with it and the Seahawks seal their wins St handouts in this one got to give it up for the pass rush they haven’t been getting home as much as they had been earlier in the season they’ve just kind of slowly been dropping down the ranks uh as far as sack totals and even uh pass rush win rate goes um big rally for them today and I thought they were the difference in the game was being able to get some pressure on KB and and then except for that last Drive being able to contain him too and keep him from uh making some of those diam Dynamic plays earlier in the game when momentum might have shifted Devon Witherspoon I thought was outstanding he was everywhere he was blowing up blocks he was making tackles all six of his tackles were solo tackles tells you a little bit about how good he was uh got to get it up to the offensive line as a whole as a standout in this one I already mentioned I thought Noah Fant had a nice game and then Trey Brown for that play that he made on that wide receiver screen um it was the it was romad dun former udubb player who was trying to get the block on Brown and he he busted through that to make a play uh strugglers in this game Ryan grub his third down play calling just I just don’t get it um third down efficiency tonight for the Seahawks they were five out of 13 I held the Bears to five out of 15 but that only goes so far when your offense can’t get it going either five out of 13 and I don’t feel like I didn’t go back and tally it all up remember that stat earlier in the season where the Seahawks average yard to gain on third down was 8.9 I think that was through like 10 or 11 weeks felt like the third Downs were more manageable tonight lot of third and twos third and fours in part because they played maybe their cleanest game of the year only three penalties for 25 yards not a single penalty in the game in the first quarter the two teams combined for just seven penalties for 48 yards um really clean game and coming off a short week like that when it basically didn’t get any practice time right Monday’s a day off Tuesday they got together and yesterday was Christmas and they had to fly out in the morning or at night last night G to Chicago uh Seahawks had the time possession battle won for most of the game at that last drive by the Bears uh tipped it just barely in their favor but uh just a a clean game from the Seahawks which I thought was really really impressive like you know we saw the impact that the penalties had on the Vikings game and we’ve seen it in other games this year um that had been an issue so really really nice to see it’s one of the storylines uh of tonight um before we get to your comments and questions because I can’t wait to do that and uh chat with all you takes how we feeling guys is it uh are we going to get a lot of a win is a win no matter what uh there we go MCV virus 6185 that was ugly yep X-Wing yay for a win absolutely keeps the Seahawks in it let’s recap now their playoff situation the best road to winning the NFC West at this point is on Saturday night if the Cardinals beat the Rams than the NFC West then that game a week later which they still haven’t decided in week 18 if Seahawks and Rams are going to play on Saturday or Sunday but that would be winner take all winner goes to the playoffs loser out there will be no Wild Card opportunity for either of those teams in the NFC West if the Rams win that game the Seahawks still can win the division but now you’re having a poll for I think there’s three or four other teams you have to rot to win which is interesting usually when you’re when you’re on that last weekend you’re pulling you need some teams to lose so you can get a tiebreaker but we need we need our strength of Victory to be as high as possible it may come down to that which is something like the fifth tiebreaker by the way they were recapping it on the on the broadcast tonight um so polling for a Cardinals win on Saturday and uh it can happen Cardinals beat the Rams in week two I think 42 to10 that was obviously a different Rams team they had a couple offensive linemen out they had puka nakua out for that game that offense hadn’t really gotten dialed in yet um the Cardinals are capable of it just haven’t played well lately and uh and the big question will be how motivated will they be after they were eliminated from playoffs uh yesterday I want to get this up here JM embarrassing game the offense was a joke the Gino grub duel was a no- show tonight if you’ve never watched my show before I’ll take it easy on you uh I’ll I just can we just get rid of the word embarrassing when it comes to sports performances if you use the word embarrassing you’ve never played Sports at a high level or been around athletes that play sports at a high level these guys work so hard they put so much on the line including their health their bodies like literally every time they step across that line they can suffer a career ending injury I’ve been around these guys I’ve covered Sports throughout most of my life nothing matters more to these guys than winning sometimes you play well and sometimes you don’t sometimes the other team just plays better than you can we just get rid of the word embarrassing it’s never embarrassing you don’t like how they performed great you have some some constructive critique give it to me but I’d like to just get rid of that word when it comes to sports analysis I really really would uh that was a good defensive game from MCV virus 6185 but the offense had no juice kind of disappointed in that yeah it’s just they just can’t put together a full performance the games that we’ve run the ball really well we didn’t throw it particularly well I guess at Arizona it’s probably the best example of of both of those things coming together Gino had a good game he had the one bad pick but he had a good game and shanet had a great game it’s really the only time this year that you could say that it was a complete performance but again I just don’t know here’s a good example of why a lot of a lot of fans I I need to stop saying a lot of you because some people get offended that I’m trying to like I don’t know I don’t ever mean to imply that I’m smarter than any of you better than any of you I like to think that I admit when I’m wrong which happens a lot I like to admit that I don’t know as much as some of you might think I know like I never coached the game I’ve just been around it my whole life I’ve covered it my whole life I’ve been in locker rooms I’ve been to a million practices I’ve watched the prep I’ve I’ve watched film and tape I just I just feel like some of you jump to conclusions or or you you make statements simply because you’re you’re confirming your priors and here’s a great example of how the TV copy when you’re watching it live doesn’t tell the whole story there was a play let me go back and look for it here because I made it I I made a point of it in my notes where Caleb missed Roma dun on a third down and he was wide open didn’t even come close to him and now I can’t find in my notes sorry guys I know this isn’t the most compelling content when I when I have to when I have to weed through this anyway there was a play in the first half where Caleb M was a third down had romad dun on a little in-breaking Route 15 y would have been an easy first down he threw it over his head so you think man that’s a Miss that’s a miss that should never happen guy’s the first pick in the draft it’s an easy pitch and catch but then you watch another angle and you could clearly see that adun settled in the open Zone and Williams clearly thought he was going to keep going herb Street pointed it out on The Telecast it’s one of those sometimes you don’t get the whole picture what I saw anytime they showed a skycam view on a replay or a wide angle view I didn’t see a lot of guys open down the field or I saw a lot of long deep slow developing routes that didn’t give Gino a chance really to get the ball out quick it all fits hand in hand you can’t always blame the quarterback you can’t always blame the playall caller I don’t know if any of you saw the the the Dan orlovski breakdown of the final interception last week against the Vikings that sealed the win for them where you know everybody just kind of jumped on DK meta for running a lazy route and orlovski I thought had some of the some of the most brilliant analysis I’ve ever seen because he was willing to admit sometimes it’s not one person’s fault sometimes it’s a bunch of things sometimes it’s 50% on the quarterback back and 50% on the receiver I know I said I wasn’t going to talk about I just don’t understand the vitriol um for Gino Smith I had to block a guy on Twitter today because he he accused me of just being just a Geno Homer and not ever criticizing him which he’s obviously not watched anything else except for that one show it’s different to say I think Gino’s their best choice right now and when you look ahead to the offseason there aren’t any better options and so for right now with where this team is even though we would all love for a Patrick Mahomes to drop out of the sky and for us to be able to get him maybe we do strike it rich maybe we take a guy in the second or third round next year and he pops and he becomes the next Russell Wilson but there’s no obvious Solutions other than what you have that are better than what you have so you just have to try to fortify the rest of your team and keep moving forward until you can find that next quarterback I don’t understand why that’s so hard for people to understand and there I go again I said I wasn’t going to talk about it and I did uh offense goes gets sha Lee offense gets worse as the season goes defense looked great yeah I think that’s an indication of the limitations of Ryan grub I think that’s not having a counter punch to what the league starts doing to you when you stack up some film and you have a resume um it’s frustrating I want to get through some of these and then we’ll talk about some we’ll talk about some offensive coordinator ideas uh I’d rather be flying an X-Wing he just Echoes what I was saying about Gino’s knee didn’t just doesn’t look right I mean that is a factor it’d be like if a starting pitcher went out there with a spray knee and they said it’s as meniscus they did talk about it on The Telecast tonight there’s a lot of swelling around there and fluid and that’s not something that’ll go away overnight maybe he even needs to get in there this offseason and get it cleaned up but it’s something giving him some discomfort and that’s going to make it tough to just rely on those mechanics that are muscle memory for for you over and over and over again as a quarterback again that analogy if you’re star starting pitcher like you can work through it but if you can’t hit your Landing foot as hard as you want to or you normally do or you can’t push off as much off the rubber because that’s the knee that’s hurting 97 becomes 94 maybe your slider doesn’t break as much it it can be impactful uh let’s see mcir 6185 again says I’m still thinking reek plays too much underneath on his coverage it’s becoming an eyesore but the game ceiling interception was him playing over the receiver not sure how much of that is how they coach him and how they want him to play I will say this he still is when you look at all the metrics and the coverage grades passer rating against top 10 top 10 Corner in the league it’s just that his bad plays stand out and we remember those and unfortunately a couple of those came the last couple of weeks as well um let’s wait on that I’m going to star that so I can come back to it for pretentious Cameron we’ll come back to yours all right uh Robert hail says the Grinch Stole the Bears win this Christmas defensive line was amazing let’s start another one I want to save some of these up uh we’re going to store a bunch of these okay I got to obviously get into it okay uh Bryce CS of the hawk Zone rundown podcast loves the Hat wanted to point this out Hawk Zone rundown gift from Bryce shout out to Bryce and Ryan uh if you haven’t checked out their podcast yet definitely do it get over and get him a sub they’re getting close to a th000 subscribers he gave me a couple of hats I will repay the gift uh when I get my online store up and running which I worked a little bit on today get some hats out there for you for Seahawks forever fans as well in fact tell me down in the comments below if you get a chance what type of merch you’d like to see the most would you prefer hats t-shirts hoodies coffee cups uh whatever um Sean says offense isn’t diverse enough I agree with that I don’t see any creativity I see him kind of running the same things and I think that’s why we’re seeing you know it’s been four or five weeks now since you know even though gin was awfully good last week um except for the two picks but he was just much better downfield for the most part he was better in the first half than the second half and I I chock that up to to teams are figuring out how grub likes to attack all right I’m just going to go through and star and star some comments and then we’re going to get to the topic at hand tonight here’s an interesting one Austin Martin the offense seems to work better when K9 is out I said I think on the show last week actually but I know I said it on Blue Sky and Twitter that there’s talent and then there’s Effectiveness I think Kenneth Walker is a very talented running back he has traits but I don’t think he’s a very effective running back too much dancing doesn’t hit the hole and when you have a weak offensive line or or or an offensive line that’s coming together and having its issues you can’t always count on the whole being there so you you almost have to trust it until it happens does that make sense you can’t get the ball wait to see a hole hope for a hole and then hit it because if there isn’t one now you’re tackled for a loss you just have to hit where it’s supposed to be I think you’re going to have more success we’ve seen Kenneth Walker over the last four or five weeks bounce things outside where it looked like there was a crease didn’t even give it a chance but both shanet and Ken Macintosh seem to hit the hole much more decisively two different ways Macintosh is kind of just ball of fire and from the second he gets the hand off he’s into the line of scrimmage and he’s looking for daylight shanet as I mentioned earlier a little bit more more choosy and uh and that can cause a little bit of anxiety sometimes I’m like oh he’s he’s going to go down and then he ends up seven yards downfield I do Wonder in an offseason where a lot of hard decisions are going to have to be made all over the roster and coaching staff that maybe we’re not talking about just whether or not Kenneth Walker deserves an extension or second contract but whether he should be the un questioned starter I think he opened that thing up for a competition next training camp and I think you try to get Walker to adjust his approach I don’t know that there’d be any trade value because running backs and the value of the position have evolved to the point that it’s supposed to be a really good running back draft again so a team knows they can get a running back in the draft they don’t have to trade for one they’re not going to give up a pick for one with mileage on his tires and that’s approaching a second contract when they can just get a rookie in the third or fourth round at third or fourth round dollar value so I don’t think that’s the issue but I feel like that that competition should be opened up um salarius says I think Gino did fine he protected the ball didn’t turn it over never threw it more than 10 yards yeah maybe part of that was the game plan um maybe he’s being a little overly cautious because interceptions have cost him the last couple of weeks and cost the team especially last week right they had a real opportunity to win that Vikings game if it weren’t for a couple of key penalties that negated third down stops and then led directly to touchdowns or Gino throwing those two bad picks uh yeah I I I wonder if he’s just being a little too protective now which man I’ll tell you it’s a fine line I don’t want that either you know if he’s not feeling 100% right like if he doesn’t see something downfield 25 yard dig and doesn’t have that full confidence that he can just rip it because of the knee then okay then don’t rip it I don’t mind that MCV virus again says he’s playing hurt he’s playing hurt uh Shane Turner thanks again Shane for the super thanks and the merry Christmas right back at you brother for you and yours finally started running the ball a positive nonetheless not good enough though but positive look if this Seahawk team has any hope of beating the Rams next week you’re going to have to do both you you’re not going to beat the the Rams in a game like this now I say that and oddly enough and maybe I need to say this for those of you out there who are thinking the Rams are hot right now they figured it out again you know mcvey’s got them rolling he’s got everything dialed in that’s going to be a tough tough game to win the Seahawks really don’t have a chance uh the Rams played a game just like this a week and a half ago or two weeks ago when they went to Santa Clara in a driving rainstorm in won 9 to6 very similar game sloppy kind of ugly they couldn’t get anything going they found a way to win these games sometimes can be as valuable as going out and roll in a team 31 nothing like winning these close games winning when you’re not at your best but I’m telling you in that locker room and and if they haven’t said it already I bet the message is hey you got to win games like this to get to where we want to go they’re not all going to be pretty but the flip side of that is you can say hey we played clean no penalties turn the ball over once but the defense was dominant stopped them didn’t turn the ball over on offense took care of the ball special teams were solid didn’t turn the ball over you know in our own deep in our own end there’s some there’s some stuff to work with here right there’s some stuff to work with I want to give some some badass 1G says wow we are weak AF I want to pay this comment a little bit of respect and and here’s what I mean by this it’d be easy for me to say similarly to what I was talking about earlier in regards to the word embarrassing um that sometimes it’s not pretty but also like we’re 17 weeks into this can we all just admit that we know what the Seahawks are and what they aren’t right now and maybe stop hoping that they’re going to become something that they aren’t in the next 10 days they’re not just going to roll out there at Sofi stadium and dominate the Rams physically up front on offense run for 180 yards give Gino all the time in the world so he can stand back in the pocket and pick the Rams apart and go through his fourth progression and throw for 380 yards and three touchdowns and we steamroll the Rams it’s just not who we are right now it’s just not we haven’t our wins have come against teams that aren’t very good let’s be honest about that had opportunities to beat good teams we haven’t done it that margin is is so thin though I feel like we’re much much closer to getting over that hump and beating good teams than we are to being the opposite of that whatever you want to call that um that’s how I feel I mean this team is what it is and I think that’s maybe why I haven’t gotten pissed the last few weeks because even though even though they are who they are and who they are isn’t who we want them to be right now they’re still capable on any weekend of beating anyone if they make some plays and play well because that defense gives him a chance if all that we come out of this season with is that Mike McDonald got that got that scheme across and he’s got the players he needs and wants of course you’re going to keep adding it’s a couple things I think that defense needs love another explosive Edge maybe a younger nose tackle to kind of move Byron Murphy off of that spot a little bit you know another Corner got to make some decisions about reek woen Josh job Trey Brown’s probably going to walk there’s a couple things you got to do but that defense basically comes back intact next year we found that that’s one big box talk about checking boxes that’s a big box you can check heading into next year all right now let’s get the offense to take the next step what’s that going to entail are we we’re going to have to change play caller I’m getting to that I promise here’s Bright’s checking in again thanks for the super thanks Merry Christmas Dan Merry Christmas to you and yours as well and your lovely wife grub is done in my opinion on the third and three Gina was stripped yet had a hook and flat route that both recovered no quick game there you go let me go to some of these other comments that were start I I guys I know that I tease things sometimes and a little too long I apologize for that uh pretentious Cameron grub should not be here next season he’s awful the real Broly grub is cooked bro Juan adame grub needs to go adaris Boyd get Ryan grub out of here more Kenny Macintosh CS says I’d love to not see grub and Gino after this year really what a hor horrendous offensive game um let’s see scroll all the way to the bottom I’ll bet there’s a lot more of this um hang on we’ll have some fun with this Brandon Janice says hiring grub for this offense was like handing the keys to a Ferrari to someone who just attained their learner permit suboptimality will abound but here’s the thing sometime sometimes hiring coaches in the NFL is is taking shots like you don’t know how these young first-time head coaches that are hired every year it’s crapshoot some of them work some of them don’t they don’t all become Sean McVey right has it worked out for Brian dble he was supposed to be the next upand cominging guy right didn’t work out for Cliff Kingsbury is it working out for Mike McDaniel like not all those guys you know they’re the sexy candidates they don’t all hit right the sexy drafted High quarterbacks don’t always hit the first round wide receivers don’t always hit coordinators come from different areas most of them are hired out of being quarterback coaches or passing game coordinators they’ve never called plays before all these guys that have gone on to become successful out of the McVey tree he lets them call plays once in a while in the preseason but they don’t call plays in the regular season McVey does all that so there’s there’s speculation and there’s projection when those guys are hired just as there was with grub I thought the pieces were in place and Henderson reported last week that in order for him to get the job he had to convince Mike McDonald that he would be balanced he’s failed to do that and then and and and balance doesn’t just mean being able to run the football consistently got to be able to run it and throw it what were we just talking about right they ran the football really well in the first half of this game second half it dried up and they weren’t able to complement it with any kind of deep shots down the field I just don’t see the creativity that we did in college he just may be a guy that needs the wide hases and he needs an elite offensive line in order to operate but most of these guys are hired with some sort of projection the sure things are usually hired as head coaches it’s really hard to go out and hire an offensive coordinator that has a proven track record for a long time that’s basically can’t miss they’ve either been fired before or they’re doing it for the first time so I don’t blame them for making the hire I think let’s go back to when the hire happened there was a lot of excitement in the Seahawks fan Community I I would I would say I think it was overwhelmingly positive if I recall there was a lot of excitement around it uh Scott tobio tubiolo how many times the team won 10 games and not made the playoffs and everyone here would have taken 10 wins at the beginning of the season now I said this at the beginning of the season I said two things said I thought it felt like an 11- win team they’re not going to be able to accomplish that now so I was wrong and then I also said that at the beginning of the Season that I didn’t think wins and losses really really mattered but at the end of the year I wanted to feel like we had something to build on kind of like that 2012 Seahawks team when they walked off the field in Atlanta after losing the first round of the playoffs and Russell Wilson was like that’s not going to happen again we’re starting something I feel like maybe we’re not as as overwhelmingly there as much as I wanted us to be when I said those words but they found a defense I think that’s something they can count on hang their hat on they’re going to play some defense and that gives you a chance to win every week this defense that they have right now that started let’s go back right it was that everything kind of cratered in the Bills game which is 1 2 3 4 5 6 seven week eight then they got some things together going into the buy they they traded for Ernest Jones they got rid of Terrell Dodson they installed Tyrese Knight and we saw the first step in that that loss in overtime 26- 20 to the Rams going into the buy and then since then they came out and they won four straight they’ve won five out of seven that defense has given up 17 6 21 18 and then 30 and 27 to the Packers and Vikings last two weeks and then three tonight to the Bears they’re not getting gashed with explosives they’re not getting gashed in the Run game they’re putting pressure on the quarterback and basically that entire defensive roster comes back next year that’s something to build on I also would argue strongly that we are seeing an offensive line starting to come together and for all of you six weeks ago whose idea it was heading into the off Seas to just flush all five of them and build a new offensive line as unrealistic as that can be I mean i’ I’ve been trying to preach patience I know it’s frustrating but continuity means everything to an offensive line Talent too obviously but continuity and they hadn’t had any of that and now they’ played what six when did Lucas come back the 49er game coming out of the buy so seven games and then lamea took over that week as well gosh somebody correct me in the comments uh but I think we’re we’re talking about five to seven straight weeks now of the same five guys being out there and I think we’re seeing a couple things I think Abe Lucas every single week that goes by looks closer to being the player that we thought he was pre-injury he looks like a guy that we can count on for next season I think SATA lamea looks like the starting Right Guard moving forward they had they pulled him a couple times today and he blew open some of those big runs in the first half I think he looks outstanding oh bami looks serviceable I think there’s an opportunity for an upgrade there I think it might be Jaylen sundell but I wouldn’t be surprised if they draft a guy there’s some guys in this draft I like and then left guard is an obvious spot to improve it could be Christian Haynes you might already have that guy on the roster it could be Anthony Bradford when he comes back from from injury next year remember he played some left tackle at LSU so he’s comfortable on the left side and then Charles cross installed it left tackle so I think we’re taking some good stuff away I think the play caller is a huge issue um remember that reportedly Mike McDonald wanted Arthur Smith to be his offensive coordinator but Smith didn’t want to wait the process out and he took the Pittsburgh job to make sure that he had a spot I think with what they’re trying to accomplish he might have been an ideal type guy um and you know there’s other names out there we can talk about but we’ll get into that in the offseason I said this again the other day I think I’ll I think it’s going to happen quick if it happens at all within the first three days of the Season being over whether that’s a week from Monday if they don’t win the division or if it comes after the playoffs I think they’ll either make a quick announcement or they’ll come out and they’ll they’ll reiterate they’ll stand behind their guy and they’ll say hey grubs our guy moving forward you know we we trust him and we think that he has the ability to grow into the play caller that we want um David Mir says maybe a good blocking tight end would be the best thing here since we’re putting a lot of the load on the wide receivers it AJ Barner is the gem of the draft class this year so far isn’t he he’s been a very good blocker uh phell Brown came with the reputation of being one of the best blockers in the league I don’t know that we’ve seen that of course he started the year injured blocking is not Noah fance thing although I feel like he’s made strides in that area and then Brady Russell we just haven’t seen he’s been hurt I think tight end is a very sneaky need for this team this off season although a guy who excels at blocking I don’t know is the guy I think you might want someone who’s more dynamic in the P game to compliment Barner long term remember Barner was one of the youngest players in the entire draft last year as well he was just barely 21 when he came out uh got to talk about DK of course he had the personal figan it pissed me off when I was was watching it because it just seemed completely unnecessary allowed himself to get baited again and then the thing that bothers me when it happens it hasn’t happened as much this year it hasn’t happen in a while is is when that fuse goes off he just has a hard time reeling it in he doesn’t catch himself and it annoys me again in the big picture I think DK is a guy that you want on your roster I I’m in the camp of extending him um fortunately it didn’t cost us in this game but uh it was frustrating at the time to be sure uh Scott says I think you give Gino two years 60 million 30 guaranteed second year is a team option I think something like that I think you can even go three years 100 you know and structure it in such a way sort of like this deal was where it’s not that painful to move on from it after a year or two if you do I identify and find your next guy long term something like that and I also think that’s about the best he can hope for now Albert Breer did report tonight on The Telecast that his Representatives you know Gina was going to push this off season for an extension and a raise the Seahawks certainly would be interested in that because some of those escalators that he has is going to push his cap hit next year to where it’s a little harder to manage and so an extension will lower that certainly allow them to do some other things um but for those of you who aren’t in the Gino Camp I get it I get it because we all we all want one of the five we’re jealous of the five we’re jealous that we saw what Lamar did yesterday we see what Josh Allen does every week Mahomes looked like Mahomes again yesterday he’s starting to heat up his receivers are healthy those guys don’t grow on trees the options are extremely limited this offseason and the options to go get a guy that that you absolutely know without a doubt is better than Gino Smith are almost nil nil you can argue darnold versus Gino and you might have a case there but based on the reporting I’m seeing I don’t know that darnold’s going to be available I think the Vikings are going to try and keep him and they think he wants to stay there because it’s a great situation for him um hay gray and underway says this team overall is so average I would disagree with that I think I think we have clearly established that we now have a top 10 defense and that gives you a chance to win and it gives you a chance to go into the off season and take that next step because your vision can be more focused can be more narrow like we just need to get that offense to the next step it might be as simple as a new play caller and then just continuing to add at positions of need obviously I here’s I jumped the gun here but sexy Seahawk 69 said says what if we got darnold again I don’t think he’s going to be available he’s going to cost more than Gino Smith will because if the Vikings let him go he isn’t unrestricted free agent on the Open Market at just 27 years old if Baker Mayfield’s getting 40 million a year Sam darnold’s getting more do you want to pay Sam darnold 50 million a year because I think someone’s going to so then now we’re talking okay I like darnold better but do I like him that much better because if if you want to just cut Gino and sign darnold you pretty much suck up well how can I put this the easy moves that you could make yesterday to free up cap space for next year with extensions or Cuts or whatever a lot of that goes away and evaporates if you go out and you sign Sam [Music] darnold is that really the guy you want again I’m I’m my plan of action is I’m keeping Gino I’m extending him I’m adding to 2 years to his current deal to make it a new three-year deal I’m tearing up next year it’s how most of those extensions are done and then and then from this year forward I’m drafting a quarterback every single year until we hit on one it’s a bad quarterback draft but take a shot on one take a guy with traits whoever that might be if it’s will Howard in the second round if Quinn uers comes out I don’t care who the name is just do what John Schneider said he learned to do with the Packers the Ron wolf model and then he he tells us every year at draft time I want to do it but it just never Falls my way just do it every year just draft a guy take a shot at him until you find a guy that when he comes to Camp you see oh hey we’ve got something to work with here and then you know what your next step’s going to be and you can do the Jordan love thing or the Michael penx thing or whatever right somebody accused me the other day of uh kissing up to Gino and and and just uh I don’t know whatever term you want to use it was a lot more vulgar term but I guess the the archaic way of saying it would be brown noser uh again hasn’t watched a lot of my content because I’ve been just as pissed at Gino as as the rest of you I just recognize that the options to find a better guy aren’t there and I also still think we haven’t seen the best Gino Smith that he can be yet because the offense hasn’t given him that opportunity um let’s see what we got here lot of let’s pick up darnold so I’ve addressed that okay here’s another one real Broly says we got to get Fields sexy sea 69 says oh I like Fields I don’t and if the Seahawks were to go out and sign Justin Fields as anything more than just a g aget package player I will immediately do an episode ripping the organization for making that move I know a lot of you in love with his traits and with his ability to run and make stuff happen and occasionally he makes a great throw down field but it’s usually created with his legs he is not the type of surgeon that you need in the passing game to consistently win and win championships in my opinion the type of surgeon that John Schneider is attracted to I don’t think he’s an option I don’t think he’s an option at all and if you’re signing that guy to be your quarterback of the future I think you’re going to get uh people will get fired over that um what else we got I know MCV virus says we should start ignoring the get rid of Gino stuff it’s starting to get annoying but it’s so constant that it’s it’s hard not to address it right this is interesting let’s start looking ahead because you know how much I love the draft and uh already starting to do a lot of mock drafts already starting to watch tape I’ve already got my spreadsheet started starting to take notes uh Brian Meyer says offensive line won’t be the first pick coach will get his number one wanted Defender this is a really smart comment so many people that do mock drafts or want to comment on my mock drafts have this mindset offensive line no matter what right like what’s the what’s the Post-it note from the movie Draft Day vonte Mack no matter what offensive line no matter what if you go into any draft looking at any position group that way with that type of blinders on mentality you’re not going to be employed as a GM in the league very long you have to take the best player on the board that you think has the best chance to be the best player of all the names left on your board regardless of position ideally now in a perfect world that player also fits a need as it did two years ago with Devon Witherspoon as it did last year with Byron Murphy as it did two years ago with jsn I would argue when you look at this draft and kind of how it falls and where the strengths of it are at the top and then beyond that right now it’s shaping up to be a draft that’s very weak at quarterback isn’t considered to have as many blue chip players as the last few drafts we’ve seen isn’t considered as deep and in particular with where the Seahawks are projected to be drafting they’re probably sitting at about 18 now after winning tonight if you take an offensive lineman there if he’s the best player on your Bard and you think you can start his rookie and he’s going to be a great player that’s a perfect world we’re all happy we got a guy that we can plug in at left guard and here we go right and that could happen but there might be another guy too and don’t ignore the defensive line I keep saying this as much as they and they even talked about it tonight Kirk herb Street and Al Michaels tonight talked about how this this defensive line is so deep it’s one of the deepest in the league they want to bring it all back next year but there’s still something missing there right it’s not perfect I’d love to have another Edge guy that’s a little more Dynamic a little quicker a little more explosive off the edge I’d like to have another interior defensive lineman that can penetrate eat up some blocks too like I said to free up Byron Murphy a corner at 18 another lock down corner you have any questions about riek woen his future I wouldn’t mind doing that either so get the best player on your board that you think has the best chance to be a great player with your first pick if that happens to be an offensive lineman great then later in the draft try you know then you try to Target need a little bit more as John Schneider says they do uh Shaggy Doo garbage D only guys that showed up everyone else on the plane fire grub and Guff who’s Guff ASAP you’re going to fire a guy with a game left when you have a chance to win a division okay David Mir says build a great team and then you get the QB that’s a good approach in my humble opinion uh 100% agree I think when you look at this roster right now it’s the it’s the way that makes sense you absolutely want Gino Smith back next year because you’re going to try to win the division next year but you also absolutely want to try and identify a young guy that you want to move forward with and in the meantime fix that running game and offensive line so that when it’s time to hand it over to a young guy he has all the tools to succeed how many times do we see young quarterbacks fail because they’re running for their lives or they’re seeing ghosts remember that game the Monday Night Football game with darnold as a Jet right everybody thought he was going to be a bus then look at him now because he has a better play caller better offensive line better running game less dysfunctional organization uh Mark Coleman says Gino still refuses to go through his progressions it’s the first option or sacker interception I vehemently disagree with that uh I don’t think Bryce is watching at the moment he’s probably doing his own reaction show but he is an offensive coordinator quarterback coach owns a quarterback Academy I know he would disagree with you as well I think if you watch the all 22 you see him going through his progressions sometimes he can’t and sometimes he doesn’t Josh Allen stares down his number one receiver at times so does momes so does Lamar Jackson sometimes you wait for the pattern to develop sometimes you’re so sure you feel good in the pocket you’ve got protection you really want to hit that route everyone does that to say he does it every time I just don’t agree Osiris Merry Christmas Dan Merry Christmas to you and yours as well thanks for being here and sharing your commitment to this team and your love of the process I appreciate uh you and your support and all the views and uh and this is the stuff I love I love the engagement um as I’ve mentioned on my show before it is a very very busy time of year for me outside of this part of my world and and so I haven’t been able to do as much of this as I want to don’t worry it’s coming and I have some huge plans for the office season once we start getting into um free agency the draft the combine um I’ll share a little something with you today I got an email today from the folks that run the Senior Bowl and I was granted media credentials to go cover the game this year I could go to mobile and hang out the entire week go to Every practice every press conference talk to coaches and players attend the games um probably not going to be able to make it work but I will uh I will make this vow to you today as we sit here on December 26 2024 that knowing that I was approved for credentials I will 100% absolutely make that um make that a mission of M next year uh with a little more time to plan in advance that I uh I’ll be going to the Senior Bowl next year and covering that for you all and doing it ton of content from there just couldn’t make it happen on short notice this year unfortunately but wanted to go through the process anyway so really appreciate those folks uh being open-minded to non-traditional media as um some teams are now in the league and also some events like that um because the goal here of the channel is to grow it to the point that I can do things like that go to the combine as well um it used to be that to get credential to go any to any of those events or or cover any teams you had to you had to be employed by a major media Outlet that’s not so much the case anymore the Seahawks have been pretty tight about that Brian n Brian nouser is the first guy to get in on that this year and he is killing it so that might crack the door open for some of us uh in the future as well something I’ll certainly look look into as well but I guess the point I was trying to circle around and make is that your views your support your engagement your subscriptions um help the channel grow and be able to achieve more things like that in the future so I can bring you more content and get better guests on and dive even deeper into the things that you want to talk about and hear about um oh man house Gino’s 44 and 48 he’s not good he’s not our best choice but I’d rather go two and 14 go the full Jeff fiser sorry I will never ever ever I’m sorry I’m sorry I’ll never get on board with tanking as frustrating as it is to be in the middle to be so close to the playoffs so close to being good as frustrating as that is there is and and some people like to say it’s the worst place to be in the league because you don’t get high draft picks no no no no no the worst place to be in the league is two and 15 that’s the worst place to be because does it means your entire roster is broken your organization is dysfunctional you have to take a quarterback at the top of the the draft and play those odds which are horrendous you do not want to be there this team is so much closer to being a contender than they are to being two and 15 it’s frustrating that it can’t happen right now we want it to happen now we want it to happen this year and maybe it still can until they’re eliminated there’s still that possibility we’ve seen teams get hot at the end of the year Seahawks lost the 2005 Super Bowl to a 9- seven Pittsburgh team that had to win their last five games of the year to squeak in had to play every single playoff game on the road and won the Super Bowl I’m not saying it’s Apples to Apples I’m just saying it’s better to be that close this team isn’t that far away you guys I will never wish for the team to be 2 and 15 for what so you can draft [ __ ] Sanders he’s not a sure thing not at all uh let’s see this kind of sums it up imbaku feels like a lot of Hawk fans either want to be one and 16 or 16 and one if anything else if it’s anything else they get mad let’s be a little optimistic first time head coach OC and DC and yet we’re still battling for a title I I’m a big Mike McDonald believer I am and I think we’re going to see some things this off season that are different than we’ve ever seen before last off season was John Schneider’s First Call in the shots he had to wait longer than he really would have preferred to hire his head coach he got the guy he wanted but then it was so late in the process they couldn’t go to the combine they couldn’t really get involved in the draft process he had to just kind of on faith try to pick players for McDonald that he thought would fit going into this off seon I think McDonald’s going to have some conviction I need this I need that if he doesn’t believe Ryan grub is the right guy they’ll make that move look how decisive they were with the linebackers you went out and paid $7 million for Jerome Baker in free agency you signed Terrell Dodson for what it would have been 4 and a half traded one cut one within a week that’s how decisive he was when he realized it was isn’t going to work I think we’re going to see some of that in the player Personnel department and their approach this offseason I really do I really do um and house comes back to say grub is not going anywhere it’s [Music] Gino I just I’ve been asking for this on on Twitter and blue sky the last couple of weeks at Seahawks forever if if you are that convinced that the right thing to do is to cut Gino this off season just cut him move on from him then what’s your plan what would you do because there isn’t a single plan out there that’s a sure thing but you look at the history the NFL you look at it the last 10 15 20 years there’s a a good chance if you move off your veteran quarterback that you don’t think is the just quite the right guy that things could get really really bad we’ve been a little spoiled here right we went from Jim Zorn to Dave Craig and then some of you don’t remember the 80s after Craig was done and the early 90s mid 90s it got bad some of you didn’t have to watch John freeze Kelly stoffer Dan Maguire it’s Dan galba John knna throwing more picks than TDS it’s it was bad you guys and then we get Matt Hasselbeck on a 10-year run and then we go right from that into Russell Wilson and we win a Super Bowl I think we’ve gotten spoiled Gino’s top five in the league in completion percentage in yards this year yeah he doesn’t have a lot of TDS but I think we’ sit here every week and we talk about how bad the the Red Zone play calling is you know when you watch some of these other guys that you consider Elite Lamar Jackson it’s all the same guys right I’ve just named this the five same names you can throw Justin Herbert in there as well yeah they’re throwing 30 touchdowns a year how many of those are guys wide open just wide open because they were schemed open I just don’t think Ryan grub can can design effective Red Zone pass plays with the narrow hashes he hasn’t proven it to me yet when The Season’s overall go back and look at every every Red Zone possession every pass play called inside the 10 for example Fades probably most of the successes are just Fades not a lot of creativity not not a lot of guys running wide open what do we got here Dave one of the most consistent and generous supporters of the program how come I can’t get this on the screen hold on where are we at there we go a lot of very good things on defense Gino gutting it out a lot can and should be said about the offense but I want to plead can we please find a legit nose tackle so we can quit playing Murphy out of position um yeah I would love to see it you know know I mean they brought henkins in but he’s more of just an early down kind of two gapper run stopper fortunately there are some guys in this draft you’re not going to be drafting high enough um oh now I’m blanking on his name but to get the the first kid out of uh out of Michigan but Kenneth Grant just declared today he fits that mold um there’s a couple of guys in the top 100 of this draft class that are that are more in that mold there big like 320 330 plus guys I think that’s going to be a priority for them I think that’ll be one of their intentions I think they want to be able to get Murphy more into like you know kind of a two ey position right get him off the nose tackle a little bit let him penetrate a little bit more let’s see what we got let’s go all the way to the bottom sometimes that can be kind of scary David me says we got one year of waren moon and it felt like the Rapture uh let’s see I I’ll just okay screw it I’ll just keep going back to it Dan Gino’s the guy throwing the interceptions when are you going to get off the Gino train come on man open your eyes I’ve said it a million time how many how many different ways do I have to say it have I ever once said Gino’s the guy forever no matter what for good sign him to a five fiveyear deal give him 50 million a year and stick with him there’s no better quar have I ever [ __ ] said that stop it Gino’s 100% the best option right now if there’s other quarterbacks in the league you think are better you can’t get them and if your answer is just draft a guy you haven’t been paying attention to what’s happened in the league the last 20 years there are this this might be it might not be as bad as what was that the 2021 draft with Kenny picket the only first rounder uh where I think the only guy out of that draft was it 2021 the only guy out of that draft still with his same team that drafted him is Brock pie was the last player taken in the draft like if just drafting a guy is your plan it’s a bad process dude bad process uh ESPN said best quarterback available as goff’s backup talking about hen and hooker okay I really liked hooker coming out as a prospect even with the ACL tear knew he wouldn’t be able to play right away as a rookie I liked him but there’s a lot of projection there played in that Josh hypo offense at Tennessee guys are schemed just running wide open down the field didn’t have to throw into a lot of tight coverages never was under Center didn’t have to make NFL reads that’s a that’s a one read offense so yeah he’s 6′ five he throws a nice Ball but he’s had multiple devastating knee injuries and you watch his college tape he’s not a sure thing so he’s a great example sure maybe Detroit takes a day three pick for him he not going to start for you week one not unless you you’re re building football team which they’re not oh God someone mentioned Rick Meyer yesh see now we’re going to go down that path again talk about how bad it was right uh Camden Flatout asked me uh if I would bring in Sam darnold I’ll put it this way I like darnold darnold looked very good this year he’s playing for one of the elite play Callers In the game 30 I saw the I think 31 of the wins under the Kevin oconnell era in the last three years are one score wins they’re not dominating people but he’s an outstanding play caller they have an excellent offensive line although they’ve had some injuries this year they run the football effectively they have two Elite wide receivers I think the only way that I would if it was head ahead and they were both unrestricted free agents I guess that’s that’s how I’ll answer this if they were both if Gino’s contract was expiring this year and the Vikings let darnold get to free agency and it was a choice between the two yeah I would rather have Sam darnold but I don’t think the Vikings are going to make him available and you’d have to take a cap hit to cut Gino right people always talk about the savings we could save $2 million but there’s there’s dead money too it’s not always ideal so yes if apples were apples given a choice between between Sam darnold and Gino Smith right now if they were both unrestricted free agents and both available I would take darnold even at a higher cost but he is going to cost you more but he’s 27 so you can sign him longer I’d sign him to like a five-year deal but I don’t think he’s going to be available he’s and he’s and Gino’s under contract context matters you can’t just it’s not fantasy football you can’t just throw it all out and draft a new team every year and spend your first round pick on whatever you want to um it’s an interesting question Krishna says where do you think this team would be with Shane Waldron’s offense from last year it’s interesting when you look at the Red Zone numbers last two years as much as I wasn’t a fan of Walder and just never thought he ever had Rhythm or feel within a game to adjust and adapt similar to what we’re saying about grub now but they were better in the Red Zone they were a lot better in the Red Zone with the same quarterback so those of you say you know oh he throws too many picks he’s terrible in the Red Zone well he wasn’t last year and he wasn’t the year before so maybe you know Shane Waldren at least in that area uh was better uh beon says talk about Jim Zorn next Seahawks offensive coordinator uh if you want to bring back a 1990s West Coast offense sure don’t think it would work in the league now though Shane Turner says congrats on the super on the Senior Bowl make it work um unless I hit that $1.1 billion Mega Millions not going to be able to make it work we’re g to talk about this this offseason this will be a storyline doesn’t jod have to sell the team per Paul Allen Andy Pinto there is language in the trust that says Paul’s wishes were to offload all major assets at some point but it’s up to jod there’s no drop dead date there is some thought that if it’s going to happen though 2025 is a year because there’s something in the agreement where uh there’s there’s some sort of penalty or or tax implications like a 10% uh I don’t want to speak out a term but there’s some Financial penalty for selling before 2025 it may have to do with their agreement with the stadium in the in the county um that lapses I believe in the next year which would make it much more attractive to a perspective buyer so um I would think this offseason is where we’ll probably start to see some smoke and here some more defined reporting around that when you ask the guys now when you ask Greg Bell and Bob kod and Corbin and all the guys that cover the team they really don’t have any answers cu no one’s no one’s really talking about it other than to deny that the team’s for sale the thought when Paul Allen passed away was Jody Allen likes basketball doesn’t like football did didn’t really want to inherit the Seahawks or be involved in in them but she really fell in love with them now a lot of that had to do with Pete Caroll she love Pete I know she has an affinity for Jon too but I think you know Pete was a guy that she just really started showing up in the draft room remember she really started falling in love with it and taking more of an active role uh we’ll see if that continues this offseason I think we’ll learn more about that uh let’s see yeah whatever oh it’s I wanted to be really positive tonight but then sometimes sometimes you get me riled up um oh here we go Dave says uh lobbying for some Seahawks forever hats shirts coffee cups beer glasses and the like I’ll get that going it’s a takes takes a little work to get it set up but the cool thing is and whoever thought of this was genius with uh you know just this whole Evolution um of podcast and content creation where you know it used to be if you wanted to sell merch you had to buy the stuff up front you had to order like you know a 100 shirts in different sizes and have them actually physically printed pay for them up front and then then hope to resell them and now uh you can have thirdparty sites design your shirts for them post an online store connect it to the YouTube channel and they will just print them one at a time when someone orders it they print it drop ship it to you so we’ll get that going uh it’ll it’ll be launched uh by the offseason for certain um and uh again if you if you like what the guys do over at Hawk on rundown get over there they’ve got stuff available they got some shirts and hoodies and stuff too I think that’s pretty much it um here we go real Broly got any merch merch coming soon there you go just gave you the update um motive I was a big fan of Meer thought he was in next Montana this is why you don’t tank for him maybe Myers’s career was fascinating for a couple of reasons first of all we missed out on Drew Bledel instead of Myer because we beat the Patriots as one of our two wins that year th finishing behind them in the draft order and then you remember when when Meer was drafted it was Tom Flores and it was just a much simpler system and Meyer looked so good as a rookie he really did he looked like he had all the tools he was accurate quick release he was athletic and then Dennis Ericson came in the next year and at his introductory press conference talked about how excited he was and one of the reasons that he was drawn to the job was because Rick Meyer was there but he brought this really complex new spread offense and Meer just couldn’t get it and from that point forward he was just a check down guy he couldn’t throw you know deep middle ends couldn’t throw any seam routes he just didn’t see it he couldn’t he couldn’t go through those progressions he just didn’t understand it I think he played in in a a much more basic type offense at Notre Dame as well um yeah all right you guys um let’s wrap this up shout out to bet us for sponsoring the program uh thanks to all the sponsors thank you to all of you for your views and your listens be sure to subscribe to the channel and hit that thumbs up for future notifications all the other ways you can support the channel are down below and uh just stay tuned over the next uh week and a half wanted to apologize for the live stream That was supposed to be last uh Friday was it um with Brandon Kane in the hawk nest and I we haven’t gotten together in a while we’re going to do a crossover um I just woke up that morning and was not feeling well I was in no shape to be able to make uh to form any kind of comprehensive thoughts or even sit up sit upright for a while needed to sleep the rest of the day away so apologies for that because I know I promoted it pretty hard but Brandon and I have gone back and forth and we’re going to now that the Bears game has gone past us we we’ll have a little time over the next three four days try to get together with our schedules and do that uh and kind of set things up before the next weekend in the meantime Saturday aturday night make sure you watch that game Cardinals Rams it’s everything right let’s go Cardinals I was a little disappointed that they were eliminated last week because you know one Theory one way of looking at it is that can be um you know take take away a little bit of their uh motivation right their desperation but you’re still trying to build a program and if Jonathan Ganon has you know any ability to motivate this team you you know playing spoiler having a chance to impact the race still even though you’re eliminated should be that thing you know put these guys on notice like hey none of you were on scholarship we’re building a program here this wasn’t good enough we’re about to go into another offseason with a ton of cap space a bunch of draft picks and none of your safe like maybe they’ll go out there with nothing to lose kind of Let It All Hang Out playing in LA but that’s not a really huge HomeField Advantage down there you you know you have a lot of lot of out of town fans living in Los Angeles hopefully the Cardinal fans will travel heck Seahawk fans we have nothing else to do this weekend we should all try to go down to Sofi and root for the Cardinals right try to tilt that thing in our favor um because uh yeah a Cardinal win and it’s win or take all in Sofi in a week and a half SE still have a chance to win this division after everything they’ve gone through with not being able to stop a nose bleed on defense in the first seven weeks and then the offense being as inconsistent and and uh frustrating as it has been uh let’s finish on this [Music] note happy holidays to all of you guys uh I’m not going to say happy new year yet cuz we’ll have a couple of shows before we get there but hope you had a wonderful Christmas today uh Happy Boxing Day to all of you Canadians Bryce Ryan included uh who else lives in Canada that I know Jeff Simmons I think is another guy that lives up there um yeah happy Boxing Day growing up I always thought that that meant that was a day that they must have had boxing matches I didn’t learn what it really meant until I was much much older um yeah that’s going to do it for me follow me on Twitter Seahawks forever also on Blue Sky at Seahawks forever and until next time what do I always say forever and always go Hawks we’ll get that on some merch coming up sometime soon Merry Christmas see you guys soon [Music] [Applause]
