ballpark update real quick the Rays will play their home games in the 2025 season at steinbrener field that’s in Tampa that’s the Yankees spring training facility uh all reports state that the Rays will attempt to fix the trops roof after the hurricane damage probably won’t be ready till the start of the 2026 season it’s going to be $56 million in repairs explain to me why Brad they’re going to just put another tarp over it instead of improving the actual ballpark I know it’s cheaper because they’re building a new one they’re building a new ballpark and so they’re like this one’s got to get us through I don’t because really though like you you can’t play three years wor the games at minor league Parks oh wait the A’s are doing that I was just going to say look what what are you talking about like and and it only costs it’s only going to cost them $15 million they’re going to pay the Yankees $15 million for the duration of the season to host home games across town I don’t understand what the problem is that pushed that out a couple years right so what did we say 2020 like8 is when their ballpark is going to be finished the new one that’s 6 seven eight yeah so let’s say they need all three years three times 15 is what Brad 45 you get that’s cheaper that’s cheaper than put tarp on the roof of the ballpark everybody freaking hates and can’t get to anyway this is stupid it’s the dumbest thing I’ve Ard well here’s the thing though like would it be 15 years for three or would it be 15 million every year for three years or would the Yankees charge more who cares you’re still not going to get up to 56 you cut a deal right now you cut a deal right now you say hold on we’ll we’ll increase it a few percentage points or whatever do it all for 3 years will pay you 50 you still save money on this deal you buy yourself some time the Yankees aren’t out anything they actually win you win you can charge more for the tickets because there are fewer seats come on nobody wants to drive across that nobody wants to go to the Trop anyway so altogether that’s going to be $71 million between paying the Yankees and paying to fix the roof how many guys do would that put on that rais team right for three years think about that that’s crazy yeah that is so but they’re going to put they’re going to put a stinking tarp over the ballpark that everybody hates that is going to continue to be a liability to weather patterns Forever This is the stupid yeah that’s this is the most this is the oh anyway never mind so I’m going to do some math real quick so the Rays were 14th in attendance in the American League this year yeah they had they did they brought in 1,337 739 divide that by 81 games they average 16,500 fans per game steinber field has a capacity of 11,000 I was going to say that’s yeah that’s not that many people not getting tickets I’m sorry nope it’s and maybe if it’s a little bit more of a commodity maybe if it’s a little bit more of a commodity people will want to go and it’s easier to get to it’s easier to get to that’s right you don’t have to cross the bridge you know I looked at this initially and I was like yeah that’s fine that’s good didn’t really think a but you make a great argument like just stay there the whole time don’t go why why not but but I will say this I will say this okay all right I will say I don’t feel like it’s good for Major League Baseball on the whole to have two teams in minor league ballparks I don’t think Rob manf wants that there manford’s going to hate that absolutely going to hate that for sure especially for any amount of time that feels extended if the A’s were going to be there for one season in Sacramento then okay then then forego the trop entirely tear it down make a deal with the Yankees whatever if the inverse would apply and you needed the Sacramento ballpark for the A’s for three or four years like you’re already going to but you only needed a year out of Stein Brer field then fine whatever you’re right though Major League Baseball doesn’t want this but you know what Brad I want to do the math because I don’t know this just feels like an interesting question I want to know do bigger ballparks in smaller markets bring in more money than smaller ballparks in bigger markets does that make sense yes that does so more seats available does that bring in more money than fewer seats available and more people yep because like like like Fenway there’s not as many seats in Fenway as there are a bunch of other ballparks right it’s it’s got a lower capacity I feel like than many ballparks yeah Fenway is 377 basically right uh I’m what’s Yankee Stadium Yankee Stadium capacity 46 465 yeah so yeah uh let me look at T-Mobile Park real quick t- mobile park capacity uh is that one it’s going to make me actually hit enter 479 not as big as I thought because there’s missing I got them all right here so we’re looking look at Dodger Stadium look at Dodger Stadium I think because that’s 56,000 that’s the that’s the biggest because Oakland was the biggest and now it’s not so the Dodger stadium is the biggest and they pack that thing most every time right the smallest the smallest is truest coer Guaranteed Rate Globe Life Petco has 39 Fenway 37 is Lone Depot Park 37 aggressive field 34 Target is 385 okay so it I I’m just saying it would be really really interesting to look at this look at compare ticket prices too but the Dodgers have some of the most expensive tickets but that part of that is the fact that they do sell out and the product they’re putting on the field to see The Beatles brg yeah that’s right at this point especially right now and it it’s been that way off and on for a long time so right ever since they brought in the new ownership group it’s been that way anyway so it is an MLB caliber field Stein Brer field is um equipment facilities all of it the Yankees get the 15 mil um that’s I don’t know what else to say like I don’t the big question mark I think too is what it’s going to do to the Tampa tarpons the Yankee single a team because we don’t we don’t know yet so I don’t know I don’t know if they’re going to get misplaced and have to go up the street or something and play somewhere else because there are a bunch of stadiums in that little area that they can go to but I don’t know it’s going to be interesting to see what happens see how it works out because it seems like the A’s and Sacramento the Grizzlies I think no the Fresno Grizzlies the Sacramento something what something or other yeah River Cats they uh there you go River Cats seems like they’ve worked something out so I’m sure that the tarpons and the Rays will work something out so well it wouldn’t have gone through if if they didn’t have a plan but
