how you doing everybody it’s wardy here and we’re back at it breaking down the latest in Mets land just like we did yesterday with two videos and a live stream the videos were on the lace in the wotto sweep Stakes there from the contract offers to then we saw late last night Blake Snell signing with the Dodgers how that impacts the market for the Mets as well as Juan stto and latest Rumblings has him going to the Mets at $700 million how accurate is that check out that content along with our big live show there with SNY host Dexter Henry breaking down all the ls in the sto stakes and more because today folks we have new news to get into breaking news as a matter of fact that has been broken by the Mets themselves over the past hour so have the time recording this stating the following that yes they have signed coveted again flame-throwing southp reliever here and Genesis Cabrera to a one-year minor league deal with a spring training invite and Today’s Show we’re going to get into why this is without question the biggest move yet for the Mets on the bullpen front this off season how jesis Cabrera can already look like a massive upgrade over what the Mets have otherwise had as Southpaw option their Bullpen throughout the course of the 2024 season all the upside the potential downside everything in between is what we’re about to Deep dive folks so let me see your initial reactions in the comments down below before we get into it all and thank you guys also so much for hearing from our amazing sponsor that you guys and gals know very well at bet us that has you covered I’m not a sports bet an expert just love to uh share my daily picks here with bet us we’re taking the Houston Rockets out right there on the money line and wi straight in their game at -25 paired with the Denver Nuggets on their money line straight at minus 410 that’s going to bring us to a $25 bet with hopefully at least a $22 payout around there which is going to be again $45 plus dollars should both teams win outright and this two like parlay so I’m going to hammer this right here right now good luck to all my respective Sports bets and as always shout to bet USA has you covered with all your sports betting needs now folks let’s hop back into this one let’s break down the latest there on Cabrera as I mentioned shout out to my man Jacob with the amazing graphic at the WM nymx platform 66,000 followers over there make sure to follow the channel in case you haven’t already the X account I should say we’re doing great things over there but yes we know that Genesis Cabrera is now a met whether it’s Genesis or henis however you pronounce his name I’m really excited see him and queens for a multitude of reasons but let’s start off with this is actually reliever that I’ve lawned for for the Mets for a number of years during his time with the St Louis Cardinals I know you might be wondering Wy why exactly is that it’s not like he’s the most dominant Southpaw Major League Baseball for relever I’m aware but he’s had success against the Mets in years pass and I’ve just seen him do well throughout the course of his career started his career back in 2019 with the St Louis Cardinals up until he was traded from St Louis to the Blue Jays there around 2023 or so heading into the 2024 season and Cabrera this past year put up a very respectable campaign when you look at the Baseline numbers at least of 69 games 62.2 Innings and we’re looking at a 3.59 earray a 4.31 expected yearr a a 1.47 whip over five FIP and a roughly 4 and a half or so SI year Ray so the expected numbers are in his favor and the biggest Bugaboo by far for jesis Cabrera which is exactly why he was made available and exactly why a team like the Mets were able to sign him on not even a guaranteed Major League contract is because of the lack of a difference between the walks per nine and the strikeouts per nine Cabrera has steadily dropped that we saw over the past couple years there on the cap per N9 he’s in desperate need of another put out pitch in his five pitch Arsenal it’s nasty it’s headline by the cutter there and the Sinker which again sit low to mid to even high 90s that we’ll see touches 99 on the gun so he is a flame-throwing lefty however the consistency of the V that we have seen does range at times but it’s certainly one of the more reliable Southpaw options Major League Baseball when looking at reliever that throw absolute gas there are a few in the game that do it better than jesis Cabrera as he actually has himself in the 80th percentile Major League Baseball mon relievers over this past season per baseball Savant with an average velocity of at least 96 miles per hour touching 99 as I mentioned there he also has a change up the curveball Etc in his Arsenal he does not have a slider which as I was speaking to my man Isaac Rothman the pitching contributor on our platform shout out to you Isaac we both agree that a slider feels like it would be gorgeous for his Arsenal especially a sweeper for that Lefty especially with hoe Towers over there should it go down down and Away with some nice horizontal movement there when facing Lefty Lefty matchups especially there is certainly a lot of appeal for someone like jesis Cabrera and his impact that he would have on a team like the Mets right away and without question this type of pickup for them yes I understand that the underlying numbers aren’t that sexy but should he be able to get the K rate up which we saw just a year ago where he was right around a n and a half pardon me strikeouts per nine to a sub4 walks per nine throughout his career he’s north of a 9k per n pitcher to right around a three four walks per nine pitcher so yes when it comes to the K toalk ratio it isn’t fancy and that’s certainly something that the Mets will have to work with but what the Mets are hoping to get here in Genesis Cabrera is a guy that has pure stuff nastiness on the velocity something that they lacked heavily from their soft tossing southpaws and Danny and Alex Young this past season now they get a short fire guaranteed thing on the velocity yes he’s a little bit of a wild thing when it comes to commanding The Zone but should he be able to hammer that fast ball well maybe dial back on the cutter usage which was heavy last year at right around 39% of his Arsenal maybe mix things up a bit there that we have seen utilize that Sinker more as we know David sturs has gotone great usage out his relievers with Sinker Splitters sliders the trip s’s as I love to call them that we saw over this past season maybe adding a slider sweeper in that Arsenal could do wonders for him and try and get a more Surefire guarantee of a put out pitch because otherwise we could continue to see the struggles where yes he’s getting some key outs there ground ball outs there Fly ball outs but he is struggling to get big swing to miss on guys even while having an absolute Cannon of an arm there throwing touching 99 on the gun it’s about location it’s about getting these guys to bite and should he be able to get more of that in this Met’s pitching lab which I have confidence he’ll be able to do this is without question an upgrade over Danny Alex Young And even Jake deckman and that’s where I really want to have a point of emphasis here folks this is in a lot of ways what Jake deckman was hoping to be for the Mets in 2024 is what the Mets are hoping to get here at least at Mr Cabrera because you’re getting a flame thrown Sou where Jake Dean again he touched High 90s on the gun he sat there 95 to 97 that we saw without a problem there he was throwing gas but the problem wasn’t throwing gas for Dean it was walking everyone their mother not getting nearly enough swing to miss especially Lefty Lefty when that is one of your biggest jobs in general when you’re going out there either low leverage or even at times more often than not sadly for the Mets in high leverage situations the Mets are in dire need of reliability from not only flamethrowers but southpaws in this bull Bend and Cabrera gives them the opportunity to see big time with their pitching lab and this year spring training where again if he say looks absolutely terrible then they can move on to the next the Mets are going to have a plethora of relievers a lot of them similar to this on minor league deals I told you guys entering the offseason yes they may sign maybe one or tops two flashy names on the relever from the frean market but they’re not going to overspend and you want to know why it’s similar to the dods and other great organizations we shouldn’t be relying on having to overspend on relievers coming off of State Career years what we we should be doing is turning out fantastic relievers because of our great pit pitching lab inhouse in this organization that should be the difference that’s what the daughters do every year that’s what the Rays do every year that’s what to an extent we have seen what other organizations including the Houston NS do greatly over the past number of years when they allowed Ryan stanik Phil maton and Hector ner all to walk in offseason ago and they weren’t sweating it whatsoever for the most part and all those guys again had up and down seasons in which if they didn’t go to the Mets and stank and maton who knows the kind of year that they would have had overall in 2024 the way that we saw Hector ner ended up being waved there that we saw by the Chicago Cubs before The Season’s end if I’m not mistaken and that was after signing a new contract with them so rest assured this is another low-risk high reward pickup for the Mets to consider here in Cabrera but what they’re certainly getting is in comparison to what their current Lefty options are and with the uncertainty with Brooks reallyy even if they sign him really who knows when he’ll be able to start the year coming back from Tommy John surgery the Mets don’t have any guarantees of a true Lefty option this bipen which is why this is Cabrera’s for the taking in a lot of ways the Mets can really fine-tune this Arsenal in their fantastic pitching lab which they’ve worked from Port St Lucy all the way up now to Germany Hefner and now they’re recent hire at his assistant pitching coach from the New York Yankees and uh pardon me and uh Desi Drew shell or Drew sko however he pronounce his last name it’s one of the two I believe uh he’s really going to help with pitch shape and really fine-tuning arsenals and Germany Hefner has shown his ability to help get proper adjustments out of pitchers out the course of the year and let’s also not forget this reliever pickup could mean a lot of the Mets when it comes to him impacting them or it can mean absolutely nothing because as David Stern said it best heading into the 2024 season how we start the year with the bullet Bend is going to be so drastically different from how he end the year and he could have been more accurate with that to a degree remember Michael tonan remember Johan Ramirez remember so many other different relievers that you guys probably forgot about more so in the first half of the 2024 uh Metropolitan Bullpen season because they parted ways with guys fast when they knew who’s going to fit who’s going to stay and who wasn’t I think that’s important for the Mets to make sure that they aren’t too tied down to guys where you further are if you go out of your way to overspend on relievers especially on multi-year deals which is why you’re dependent on them and expecting them to ball out every time the way that the Mets were heavily dependent on Edwin Diaz pretty much right from the jump last season in 2024 and as we look further here Folks at the baseball Savant numbers of what exactly you’re getting here at Mr Cabrera again you’re getting a really interesting Southpaw option in my opinion he isn’t necessarily the sexiest by any stretch because obviously there are better Lefty relievers out there the fact they didn’t get a leag contract guarantee tells you all you need to know but this is the kind of lowrisk high reward pickup where a guy like David Sterns is absolutely destined to thrive and if he doesn’t we’re not going to sweat at all we move on to the next and it’s as simple as that hopefully this is not the only Southpaw of relever the Met side in this offseason I don’t believe it to be but this is certainly when looking at a minorly deal with upside it’s hard to argue much greater than this one should they just be able to get Cabrera back to his 2023 self and previous year self of being a guy that’s more in the nine to hopefully north of a 10K per nine which I really that they can get because listen the Mets didn’t have anything close to a pitching lab in 2021 in their first year under Steve Cohen and they got the best career season out of Aaron Lop Far and Away with like a sub one ear earray or so just based on his usage alone being very strategic and Lefty Lefty options even as a spot starter at times it worked for the most part I fully expect a lot of moves a lot of smart Savvy moves with lowrisk high reward to work out for the Mets and 20124 and hopefully Cabrera finds himself in that category as I mentioned with the cutter there that sits right around 89 m the Sinker at 96 the for seam at 96 the curveball at 79 Pard me 78 79 mph and the change up at 88 maybe taking one of those out and putting a slider sweeper in or just adding a sweeper in general and then making sure that you’re going to have less usage on the cutter really having more differentiation between facing lefties and righties whatever is going to be best for his matchup so Mets fans that is what I’m going to leave you with let us know your thoughts in the comments Down Below on the latest Bullpen acquisition for the Mets their biggest one yet this off season one can rightfully are you here and Landing jesis Cabrera on a one-year minor league deal with a spring training invite
