[Music] a lot of the news coming in as it relates to roster movement at this point in December for the Hawkeyes will be outgoing news of course Iowa is going to be hitting the portal hard itself and we just had signing day here last week but the Hawkeye is getting an addition from somebody on its current roster an announcement from their headman on that offensive line Logan Jones just coming in moments ago we’ll react to it in just one second but certainly significant for for a unit that was a finalist for the Joe Moore award here in 2024 before we get to that news want to thank Tyler Ryan Instagram that he will be returning for a sixth and final season here’s the official announcement from Logan via his Instagram my time at the University of Iowa is something I will cherish forever representing the state of Iowa on Saturdays in the fall has created memories that will last a lifetime to be able to wear the black and gold and swarm out with my teammates to the best fans in the country is truly special to have the chance to to be able to play in the NFL is something I have dreamed of since I was a kid but I’m not done being a Hawkeye yet being a hawk fan has been a dream come true and I’m excited for one last season with my brothers go Hawks so Logan making this announcement via his Instagram and I think catching some people by surprise there was always the speculation that this could happen recall that Logan Jones came in in 2020 red shirted during that free year and then played just two games in 2021 so I am not an expert on the logistics of the covid related stuff I do know that this past season was sort of the end we anticipated that being the end of the covid exemptions but with the situation like this where he didn’t play in 2020 and then played in just two games in 2021 my assumption there is that the 2020 red shirt basically doesn’t count because then he red shirted in 2021 right because the 2020 year was a free year and even if that’s not how the NCAA looked at it and I’m sure you could and find that it’s not really too important for me to find that at this point I guess but even if the NCAA didn’t look at it like that I’m sure Logan Jones could get a medical exemption due to the fact that he was injured almost all of that 2021 year so he’s coming back for a sixth season surprise surprise for that offensive line that’s going to be dealing with the departures of both Mason Richmond at left tackle and one of their two guards Conor Colby who was a first team all big 10 selection now Logan Jones was an all big tener himself first team by the media and second team by the coaches according to the AP release here this week so certainly he’s going to be a big part of Iowa not only being able to sustain that level of Run game without Caleb Johnson that’s a question mark but they’ll also be able to use this as a benefactor to a potential quarterback that comes in out of the portal and so having that type of experience that level of experience a guy who had transferred over from defensive line just like his predecessor Tyler Linder bomb and um now perhaps that will be more of a calling card for even running backs in the portal I don’t know that Iowa is going to be targeting backs in the portal but with losing Caleb Johnson you do question you do wonder I don’t know of any roster movement at that position Kamari Molton Jazz Patterson Terell Washington Jr those guys will be returning but Iowa did lose Caleb Johnson they are losing Caleb and lean Williams who has since committed to what Memphis and Kansas two different uh spells of commitments there but he is moving on from Iowa so they’re going to need that stability up front and so who plays left tackle that’s a big question mark heading into next year and then who plays that other guard spot we anticipate Jennings dunker will return as will B Stevens we anticipate both those guys to be starters Kade peeper will likely get his shot at guard and then that left tackle position like I said is a question mark now this did bring up the question as I saw this news announced by Logan Jones it made me wonder okay okay who are we going to lose who is Iowa going to lose on that offensive line specifically guys who were primed to compete for the starting center role in 2025 now let me give you a list of some of those guys that were on my short list for guys who were future centers Josh nski he was a freshman this past year no reason to think that this decision will really affect him he did enroll early in 2024 but he’s still learning behind Logan Leighton Jones he just completed year number two red shirt freshman out of uh Indiana Jeremy chaplain another one red shirt Jor which means this next year will be his final season now he’s a walk-on he has played some including It Center but you wonder with Iowa trimming its roster down to 105 you hate to start predicting guys going into the portal but you do wonder if perhaps we get a decision here from Jeremy Chaplan who is a preferred walk-on at some point and then Michael mislinski is another guy he’s on scholarships dealt with tons of injuries his old high school teammate James rezar Rec Rec ly entered the transfer portal and with M linsky’s injury history and the fact that he’s heading into year five himself he’s completing his red shirt junior year and now the starting role appears to be nailed down by Logan Jones will Michael mislinski stick around perhaps he could compete for that other guard spot do these guys want to do that or pursue opportunities somewhere else at Center there’s a couple other guys to look for as future center it’s Cade bored the transfer from North Dakota who was hit with an ow during this past off season he was all Missouri Valley Conference newcomer of the year A couple of years ago he is completing his red shirt sophomore year so he would have another year after 2025 to get that role and win the job but that has to be a disappointment on some levels for a guy like bored who is a center Kade peeper I think has more flexibility he could probably play center but I’m guessing he’ll end up as one of the starting guards if things pan out as expected so I’d say the two names to really watch for right now Jeremy Chaplan Michael mislinski and Chaplan I think grew up a Hawkeye fan I think if I’m not mistaken I didn’t look that up before recording that video I’m kind of just uh going off on a tangent here but I think he grew up if I recall as a Hawkeye fan and Cade bored did as well not that that ultimately makes a difference we just saw Jeff buoy grew up in westbranch we just saw him enter the portal to kind of get a fresh start especially with the injuries he’s been dealing with so congratulations to Logan Jones provides nice stability and I don’t know where his draft stock would have been but I’m sure he wants to be a unanimous all big 10 first team and he’s a team first guy I’m sure he’s a big Kirk ference supporter I know he and Kate mcamera were very best of friends if you were curious about that relationship there but uh that will help the signal caller it’ll help the Run game and everybody else up front and should help Iowa in the transfer portal so this is positive news because we know Iowa was losing a ton a lot of different places not just getting that roster down but due to graduation and due to just the atric that is college football nowadays appreciate you tuning in folks we’ll continue to give you updates about the portal but Iowa search for a quarterback as well as a
