hello there Welcome To Forever Red Devils Ruben Amon has just given his first press conference as Manchester United manager what a press conference it was really really interesting and uh the word that Springs to mind is confidence confidence confidence confidence um he did exud a lot of it spoke about the fact he’s very sure of himself he thinks he’s the right person right now he thinks the system is the right system he knows what he’s doing basically and he believes in what he is doing and he believes that the process and the players can get back to where we want to be and uh very interesting he was asked quite a lot of questions about the players themselves their attitudes for example he was asked about a system and can they adapt in the likes of that and uh you know he reflected quite a lot of it and basically say that he disagreed with a lot of the journalists and was quite interesting he actually took on a couple of what they had to say quite early in the press conference speaking about the fact that he knows that the journalists or the media don’t believe in the united they don’t believe in players but he does and um also spoke a little bit about uh what is going to have to happen over the next two and a half years whether 2 and a half years is enough basically almost implying that it’s not going to be enough to maybe potentially win like a premier league for example but um the main thing is that about winning trophies during this time and uh to find results during this time so let’s get into sort of how the press conference had folded shall we as well as a couple of quotes and the likes so first of all he’s basically asked you know what has the first week been for example what’s he learned what hasn’t he learned and he spoke about the fact that there is so much to do with regards to working with the players with getting them align for example um he’s the sixth manager to manage United since we last won a Premier League but the main thing for example that he wants to speak about is that he believes in himself he believes that in his words he is the right man for this moment he said he might be wrong he said maybe things don’t work out but he said right now he fully believes that you have that he is the right person for this moment and uh what was quite nice and what I really liked about him is before they even asked about the players he said I know that you guys don’t believe in the players but I believe in the players so quite quickly coming off the bat getting behind his players and defending his players and I like that you know these players for whatever whatever you feel about them in terms of if you think that they were the ones that have gotten manager sack for example they actually asked about that or who know was asked about that for whatever you think about the players he needs them on board he needs the players to back him up he needs the players running for him he needs the players working hard for him and he needs to get them on sides as soon as possible so he also said he said I don’t believe I don’t I know you guys don’t believe in the Club basically in terms of winning and potentially winning trophies but I believe so I quite like the fact that off the bat he is quite willing to almost take on the confrontation quite willing to try and change the narrative and be very aware of what the current narrative is and what the media reports for example what the media thinks and uh he very much disagrees with a lot of what they’ve been saying and what they think so I like the fact that he’s willing to sort of take them on and uh call them out on what uh you know they’ve been reporting so it was a really nice start of the press confence confence in terms of already having that very very high level of confidence and um you know saying to them well you guys might not believe but I do and uh one of the reporters was was was talking about um basically uh a repair job for United he disagreed with that as well so he said he said I wouldn’t say it’s a repair job he said U it’s about improving it’s about learning in new system and um about sort of finding the small details he did actually identify a couple of key areas for United to improve he said that uh they need to improve the understanding of the game um not I think just in his own system but the general understanding that the players have he said that they need to understand you know how the game is played for example what to do in certain situations very interestingly spoke about the fact that they need to improve physically now this is just based off on a week so you know it’s in the data that he’ have and and to be able to say the players need to improve phys physically you know we are talking about a squad that have had lots of injuries injury crisis after injury crisis type of thing so for him to come off the bat and basically say already we’ve got to improve physically maybe identifies that there there’s an issue there with maybe potentially the fitness or the training or the way they for example the players are currently training or being trained in the likes of that so I identify that that is a major part that uh you need to improve on the main thing he said he says um when you’re at man united you you must win games he said that three or four times which we all know but um he the fact that he kept mentioning I think he’s very aware that he wants to try and sort of taper expectations a little bit I think and and you know show people that this is not going to be an overnight process but he’s very aware that he has to win games throughout this um they asked him about Jose Mourinho now this week he’s been likened a lot to Jose Mourinho more than just the fact that there is you know the the Portuguese connection there um but the main thing he said he said that Jose Mourinho basically showed the world that Portuguese managers can be the best managers in the world or can be top managers so you know he spoke about the fact that how much confidence that gives but was very quick to say I am not Josie Mourinho I am a different person and he said that Mourinho did send him a message he said that it was a great Club he said a um a lovely club with lovely people um which he said that he’s fa so far he said but things are changing for the fact for example you know carington currently being under construction and him not having you know the press conference in the room that Mourinho would have been having for example spoke about the fact that this is you know there are lots of things changing um in terms of what he said about United he said that United is still the best club in England and um then he was quiz kicking quizzed about what needs to change not just in terms of oh we need to get better he said what actually needs to change and he listed three things he said that United lose the ball too often he says um and the players need to get better at getting back and he based it as you guys know so I think very much almost taking a slight dier at the Players or maybe the slight Digger at what was been happening basically saying that defensively United have not been good enough this season and that a lot of that comes down to players not tracking back for example players not being good enough and keeping possession and saying that needs to change and and he’s quite right you look at for example some of the possession stats and United very R have more this season 60% of possession they’ve often had a lot less and lose the balls in pad areas and bang you get punished so I don’t think it takes a genius to really work up that that’s the area he got to change but he was very quick to to to be open and say that’s where we need to improve and uh he also said that you know he knows that that everyone thinks that a lot of things that have to change he said he doesn’t think it’s big changes he said it’s the small details he said you’ve got to become a lot better in the small details and he said that’s where he thinks he can really help the players is in those sort of small details um what was quite interesting is the fact that he asked asked about you know the fact that he’s got obviously his system three at the back five at the back and the likes of that and whether he can Implement his system with the squad or whether he might need to uh change a system to suit the current set of players and uh he basically did acknowledge the fact that the system the players are not selected or purchased or put together for the system he said that this was a team team built for a different system and but he said that it’s not a massive change for the players to play three at the back four at the back five at the back um and it’s more about s of slightly positions the actual players themselves won’t change what he was adamant about the fact is that he’s not going to change his system he says I choose our way and I don’t think our way isn’t he means the Man United Way I think he very much means our way in terms of his way his coaching staff’s way um the way that they were playing at sporing for example that’s system that sort of concept I think he was very adamant about the fact that they’re going to play their way of football not going to try and adapt for players not going to suddenly come out and stop trying to play a 433 because that’s what you know uh a Luke Shaw Harry McGuire casemiro for example used to no it’s about the players current players fitting in his system not the other way around the players need to understand how a system works and he said on Sunday um well he said Sunday you might not see the same player I think he meant the way he was talking about he said I think he meant to say that on Sunday you might not see difference in the players selected in terms of the actual 11 but you will see differences in their positioning and how they’re going to set up and how they’re going to play so it sounds like you know he’s he’s quite aded about changing quite a lot um and as much as he kept emphasized in the fact that you know in football it’s not very different to play three at the back four at the back five at the back different systems there are going to play his system you know and um that’s going to be the expectation um very interestingly he was asked about Recruitment and what reben Amber said about recruitment is he said that we’ve got to improve the process of Recruitment and finding the right players and the right profiles what also he came out and he was kind of asked if this has been confirmed by the club he kind of sort of dodged the question didn’t really answered but he basically said he says that he as the manager should have the final say and basically the final call on sign is coming into the club saying that he has to take responsibility for these signs because if they lose games if they’re not good enough for example then he’s the one that takes all the criticism and he has to take responsibility so he says that I have to choose the players and I don’t know if that was a bit of a a a update from what the conversation been or a little bit of a gaunlet being throw on to to the United staff saying that he needs to have that kind of sort of say now there would have been discuss questions about how exactly recruitment would have work but it’s interesting that he’s already come out saying that because his next on the line he should have a big say in what the recruitment is going to look like and I like that I like the fact that he wants to come out and and to be fair he said that now which means that any recruitment we do do in January or in the summer as far as we understand we’ll have him in the center of it and it’s not going to be him saying right here are a list of coup players top these are the profiles you go in and sign players he will be having a big part in that and lots of people said that was going to change because eron hog obviously played a really big role in transfers given the fact that we brought in previous players he managed and the likes but it sounds and and and and after that then you know there was an idea that this concept was going to change under inos and that you know the the manager going to have less of a say and that the S the club’s hierarchy Dan Ashwood with u you know Wilcox and Omar Bera you know that sort of team of of people were going to have a far bigger say in terms of who we going to recruit who we’re not going to recruit and Amon was quite adamant that he believes he needs to have the final say that he needs to be very involved in this process because he’s going to be the one actually working with the player right at the end and we’ve seen it at a different clubs you know at city for example um you know from what we’ve understood from watching all or nothing and the likes that pep guarda doesn’t necessarily have that big of a role in terms of of bringing in players he kind of gives them profiles identifies kind of what he needs and and they’ve got a really good recruitment Department that goes and finds that kind of player which is why I think you know we sometimes I mean City do have quite a high uh turnaround in terms of players in terms of players coming in playing pretty well and going out you look at Jal Canelo in the way he came in had a storm a season and out alone you know because he’s just lost his way so it’s going to be very interesting to see how United recruit under under amiron and the main thing I think he also spoke about is the fact that we’ve got to try and start building a squad to suit the system for example a squad that’s going to give him the tools he needs to really succeed and he might not have all of that right now but he kind of has to deal with what he has um he was asked is this the impossible job which he disagreed with he said no it’s not an impossible job basically um he said but we need to be realistic he said we must acknowledge that we need time but we also need to acknowledge that we must win Gams and he said it’s a different type of uh coaches uh in the past so OT obviously about the six managers that have or five managers that have come before him that haven’t been able to have that success and he said that they have been different coaches with the same results and we need to change that by basically saying that uh he believes he’s the right man for right now and he believes he can basically change you know that concept the only worrying thing as a United fan is if you thought he was going to come out and say basically we’re going to win the Premier League in two years he very much didn’t say that and basically actually implied it’s not going to happen he said that that um he was asked about his contract for example and uh whether he he you know what he can do in his contract and he was basically asked is 2 and a half years which is what his contract is enough time and he said quite interestingly he said 2 and a half years time well 2 and a half years isn’t enough time didn’t really specify for what I think the implications you know to win the Premier League or win the champions league and the likes he said but it’s enough time for Manchester United to know whether he is the right man or not which I think is probably about right I don’t think we’re suddenly going to become Premier League contenders next season I don’t think we sudden to become Premier League contenders the season after that or maybe might be contenders but we not not win the Premier League so he’s basically saying it’s not enough time but it’s enough time to be able to understand whether he’s the right man for the job and to continue with him he did say that we do need to win something along the along the way so there has to be trophies one whilst we’re trying I think that’s what ten hog to give him credit was good at whilst weren’t very good in the league or the Champions League we’ picked up two trophies in two seasons and I think that Ruben amaron very much wants to kind of continue that Trend whilst trying to build to winning the big trophies not to say that the FA Cup isn’t a big trophy that is one of your three major honors you want to win in a season your FA Cup your league your champions league but realistic goes Champions League Premier League FA Cup those are that’s kind of the uh the order of trophies you want to win the league cup you’ll take but it’s you know not it’s the trophy you you don’t want to win in terms of if you had to choose out of the four that you can win in the season you don’t want to win the the The League Cup you’ll take a Europa means more than than a League Cup maybe means more than an FA Cup these days I don’t know depends on your on on how traditional you are for example it is a European competition but FA Cup is seen as being able to beat a man city for example an Arsenal a Chelsea a Liverpool so that in many ways for some people it kind of holds actually a lot of higher sort of prestige than maybe winning the which has sort of your second tier clubs from across Europe but is from across from Europe it is a European title um the big thing he was asked about and I was very interested to see how he dealt with this question is that he said he was asked that well he believes in the players but are these not the players that got er 10 hog sacked you know given the fact that they’re down in 13th that they’ve had a very bad run so far are these not the players you know how Bas how do you believe in these players and I thought he answered it quite well he basically said I know I’ve only been here for for a week and and three training sessions he says but the hard work I’ve seen the belief he he sees from the players he believes in them and uh he says that’s what he asked for he said he asked for hard work he asked for players to believe in themselves to believe in him and the main quote the main takeaway from it was that he said he says I will believe in them until they prove me wrong and I really like that you’ve got to give them the benefit of the doubt you cannot come into environment and say what well the players are the issue here and and there’s nothing I can take out of them and you know we’ve got to gu to get rid of them all and I can’t trust them because you need these players on your side and if they’re not on your side then you’re not going to be able to um to get results so I really like the fact that it was I believe in them until they prove me wrong you know until I’ve got a reason not to believe in them until I’ve got a reason to doubt them until they do something to prove why they have the issue I’m not going to um just let hang them out to dry and I’ll believe in them and uh I think that’s probably the gauntlet he probably thrown down to the players themselves you know you probably find in the first maybe major training session you’ll have with the entire squadb it’s you know the media believes you guys are the issue you need to show me you’re not and I will believe it you’re not but if you give me an excuse if you show me you are an issue then we’ll have issues not to say issue too many times but um you know then then I believe that you guys are the problem and I think that he is a strong enough personality where he will take decisive action I think he will drop players and you know select players based on you know if he believes that they are going to work for him or not going to work for him which T hog maybe was slow to do I think that was his ultimate downfall is he was too slow to adapt to that last year for example relentlessly picking Anthony despite poor performance even this season a lot of criticism about relentlessly picking rashford despite his performances eventually you know Amad had one bad game we didn’t see him for a few months came back back and played really well but a lot of people saying it was tooken too long to try and make changes sticking with cmir for example after having a PO Al they did drop him to be fair that didn’t go down particularly well but uh that’s an interesting thing and I think obviously Ruben ad has identified the fact that he has to get these players on side which any manager has to you can’t win things you can’t win matches if you come into the club and say right listen you guys are all absolutely hopeless I’m going to be building a brand new L none of you guys are part of this but unfortunately I’ve inherited you so I have to deal with you right let’s go get to training you know you’ve got to try and give these players b for the D and and maybe you have to have some Frank conversations and say to Marcus rashford for example listen you’re not having a good season listen you didn’t have a good season last season you need to show me in the next six months why you belong here and you almostly a challenge but you got to find the right way because some players will will will take issue with that and say well you know bugger you if you don’t actually believe in me you know I’ve been here longer than you you don’t understand what I’ve had to deal with over these years and they might not work and they might just in their mind stay right while I’m leaving some I’m out of here you don’t you obviously don’t rape me but you got to be able to find a way to challenge the players in the right way to show that they’re not the issue and to show they’re good enough so challenge Marcus rashford to turn a season around and start scoring you know a goal every second game for example go and challenge Bruno Fernandez to go and be the top assist Creator in the league you know which is what he was for for so for so long go and challenge you know a casemiro to become the best CDM in the world as he was two three years ago go and challenge you know his defense so right come from now until December for example end of now until 2025 for the rest of the year let’s have the best defensive record you go and show me that you guys can be the best defensive unit under me you’ve got to throw down these sort of challenges to the players and see how they react because that’s how you will then identify the people you need to keep the players you need to keep the personalities you need to keep for example uh what their ability is how they respond for example you’ll learn a lot from them in terms of how to manage them because you know you need to understand exactly what makes every player tick that’s where the player management part comes into it it’s not just using the same attitude towards every single player you know even the show Alex Ferguson era you know he used to have certain players that he could go after because he knew he could take them Wayne was always seem to be you know on the end of getting us talking to from Alex Ferguson because Ferguson knew he could take it and um you know it wouldn’t affect his performance where certain other players if he gave them the ring that he would give somebody else you know they personality wise they wouldn’t be able to take it they’d break down they’d struggle so you’ve also got to take the next six months to understand what makes every single player tick how do I need to treat the different players you know do certain players need to be drilled relentlessly do certain players need the armor around the the shoulder and the you know the the affirmation and to reaffirm them that they are good enough and that they can play a role so it’s got to be understanding your squad and and who is in your squad as well as who makes the squad tick you know who are your players that you can go go to and say listen I need these guys to get on board they’re not quite doing it they’re not really responding to me and you need somebody in the club who can then say no it’s fine I’ll sort them out I’ll talk to them and uh we will get we’ll get on board you know we’ll I’ll be the bridge between you and the players to get that sort of message across to get us all aligned because you did speak about or Pan’s been speaking about in the week the identity of the club needing to shift and being able to establish a a good core identity for this group of players which is what they they’ve really struggled to do up until now um so that’s pretty much what he’s basically been saying so it was all the right things I mean I like the he’s quite a casual guy quite laidback and uh he always quite laidback in the beginning of a new job he’ll be quietly nervous but he’s not under pressure right now you know he’s not you know Back Against The Wall you’re about to get the sack type of situation so he did come across as quite relaxed I do think he’s quite um self-aware um very confident very very confident and I reckon you can probably see why anyos liked him based on that press conference he comes across as someone with all the belief someone that really really believes in his ability and thinks that he can really turn this club around and you need that you really do need that so I’m hoping that that’s you know was theing factor in what’s made then make the decision but he needs to be able to back that up and he needs to be able to prove that he is in fact the right man for the job and the you know it’s not a false confidence that he genu does believe in himself in the system and you know you can back that up with with the right results and the right sort of uh um performances so yeah so we’re going to have our I didn’t give any s injury update which I think was the only frustrating thing I was really hoping to get an understanding of whether we’re going to see a Luke Shaw for example this weekend KOB man he fit massia you know play for 21s you know how fit is he for example we didn’t really get a an injury update so hopefully we’ll get something official either from the club website or the likes but we’ll have official preview for EP switch out tonight at half 7 and uh we’ll then have a bit of a predicted 11 out tomorrow and then obviously we will probably go live on on Sunday potentially for a bit of a pre-match show after the team is announced and we’ll have a postmatch review as well looking at exactly how he played and what we really learned from his first uh game in charge at United please do smash a like on the video please
