Columbus on Saturday a game that had I think a little bit more intri a couple weeks ago before Ruckers didn’t really do much the players era and before Ohio State got boat raced by Maryland but I think that adds to the importance of this game Joe when it comes to the Big 10 s in particular both these teams project to be somewhat in the middle tier both have high ceilings that we’ve seen at times this year both have low floors that we’ve seen at times this year big picture before we dive into each one of these teams individually what what are you looking for in this game I’m G to just see if anybody can set the tone uh this we we just recently watched Ohio State get absolutely Washed by Maryland we’ve saw Ruckers go one in three in the span of seven days with a loss at Kennesaw State but also competing against Bama and A&M but also taking overtime to beat Notre Dame with um and that was the game that Burton got injured so kind of all over the place it can some team right away set a tone of like Hey we’re going to have this going for us right away like these are two teams both on two games losing streaks coming into this game granted all four of the losses have been against top 30 kenpom teams but still uh somebody somebody’s got to set the tone somebody’s got to be able to just come in and be like all right we’re getting back on track that’s been the kind of thing that’s been missing with Ruckers to me is is the mindset side of things what you would expect when two Uber talented freshmen are essentially your leaders because they’re not quite mentally where the veterans of colge basketball are they’re incredibly talented and they’ve been able to play close games against Alabama play a close game against A&M their last two losses um squeak out a over time win against zre Dame that was perhaps gifted to them from the Rucker standpoint yes D harur is great yes Ace Bailey can be great to me the question is what you’re going to get from everybody else which has been the inconsistent part of things what has happened for Ruckers to go on the road considering the only other time that they’ve gone on the road this year was the Kennesaw State loss so what has happen for them to go on the road and and win this game I mean it does start with Dylan Harper and he has to be great and he’s going to be great and like I don’t know if he wins Big 10 player of the year but he is probably just the best overall player in the Big 10 already um you you all right though it’s what can everybody else give you’re gonna Dylan Harper is going to be great 90% of the time right he’s going to have some some bad games that’s just going to happen but 90% of the time he’s going to be good Ace Bailey is going to be a high variance player where he’s going to have games where he absolutely carries and there’s going to be games where he kind of shoots Ruckers out of it yeah Jeremiah Williams is the one that’s starting to round into form and his last three games have been way better I think he’s getting more comfortable um play off ball being having to kind of to Monitor and then it’s just like can you get shooting and and stuff from elsewhere um I mean martini and hay both shot the ball very well this year both above 40% but like they don’t provide a ton else for this Ruckers team and it’s going to be I until further notice I think teams are going to live with Williams and durak and um jich Davis shooting Threes And if they hit them teams will tip their cap but otherwise it’s hey we’re gonna stop Dylan Harper or try to stop Dylan Harper yeah I I think the issue with someone like Jeremiah Williams as well is the such a drastic shift in roles from last year and trying to learn how to make an impact playing alongside two ball dominant lead scorers in Harper and Bailey right that’s something that I think for everybody on that roster is going to take some time to kind of figure out and for as good of a coach as Steve pel is and has been offensive um I don’t know what the word I’m looking for is but just you know synchronized efficient well oiled offense is not at the top of his strength list so it may take a little while a little bit of a while for that to come around but I I agree with you we’re starting to see that the Ohio St what I have one other thing on Ruckers really really quick is yeah and I don’t know if it applies as much to Ohio State because I think Ohio State’s still figuring themselves out but is Ruckers just gonna play to the level the opponent every game they let Ken they play down against kennes State they let Notre Dame stay in the game but then they look great against bam and A&M like I don’t know if just a four game sample size or is that something that’s going to hold truth this season yeah I don’t know you know I I I think you could make the argument that again young leaders young best players that’s gonna happen right yeah because you also know too when you are as talented as D har Bern’s Bailey you can flip a switch and turn it on when you need to also you kind of cruise your first four games right St Peter’s mama with Mary Ma Wagner we’re not challenging you and I think you they kind of coasted maybe K saw state was a wakeup call and then you go to the players era maybe Notre Dame’s kind of good and michah Shrewsberry is excellent at at scheming things up coming up with game plans and then Alabama and A&M you kind of you’re rounded in the form so if you’re looking at this positively maybe it just took some time and you’re at that level where you’re right behind B&M right or you’re just wildly inconsistent because you have guys who want to kind of coast and flip a switch when they need to I think that’s fair I think that’s fair I think there’s also a chance that like an equal chance both of those are accurate that’s that’s that’s where we’re at with Ruckers I think yep no I agree I agree yeah Ohio State could certainly use a flip to switch on a two- game losing Street the overtime loss to pit and then just getting shellacked by Maryland in College Park that was that was shocking to see how do they bounce back from that how do you expect them to to come out and play what do they need to do I mean it’s got it it has to start with Bruce Thorne again I think I mean he had nine points two assists two turnovers one of his worst games of the last couple years I would say for for at least the last like this season and last season um maybe not the worst but one of them when you think of Thorne you think of consistency and just what he provides um that’s Scot a bounce back they have to obious like obviously shoot the ball better they were four of 19 from three they’re the number five three-point percentage team in the country um so those two things specifically and then the last thing is going to be like do they have and I think they might but do they have the dudes to slow down Harper and Bailey enough right that’s the question for every Ruckers game yeah they have some size with Parish ha’s kind of this utility Defender but then rotations can get wonky so it’s just how how do they go about trying to match up against Harper and Bailey especially given like Harper and Bailey are bigger and Ohio State’s not a super big team no and yeah I think the absence in the middle of guys like Aaron Bradshaw isn’t going to be felt as much in this game but we also just saw Ohio State’s lack of size on the perimeter cause them to really struggle against Maryland and Maryland’s perimeter like they turned it over a ton Ruckers goes into pressure with their length and quickness safe to say that Ohio sayate could turn over a ton then as well we’ll see what happens there Ken pal predicts a a 10-point victory for Ohio State in this game State being favored by 10 points right now and be like yeah that’s that’s a good idea um but I I think this I think this is G this should be a close game um I I I expect Ohio State to bounce back some I expect Harper and Bailey at least I expect Harper to have a very good game bayy obviously can he can go for 30 on literally any given nights I don’t love it but give me give me Ruckers 83 to 81 yeah I don’t love it though I I it feels cleaner if Ruckers wins right you have the the team with the better players winning the game or the better high-end players winning the game to me though I think this this feels a little bit like the Bama A&M spots for Ruckers from the standpoint of you’re going to go on the road test you’re good and playing consistent but find a way to stay close I think they cover the spread if it’s looking at 10 but at some like I can’t imagine Bruce th in Ohio State playing that poorly again just quite frankly I I can’t imagine it I don’t know if they’re going to turn things around and be the team that we saw against Texas which who knows how good Texas actually is right um but I think they’re they’re better than that they’ll play to a solid standard I think we’re looking at like a 7571 win for Ohio I want I I it would be more fun for college basketball if Ruckers made a statement and then we had more reasons to talk about D Harbor and Ace Bailey but I think Ohio state is the better team right now at home and again it’s tough to say that given they just got uh waxed but yeah there’s there’s a bounce back in there I think there’s a bounce back in there for this Ohio State team yeah I think that’s fair um I think Ohio state is the better team I just I think this could a big time like a big time Dylan Harper game yeah that’s kind of what leans me to it Ohio State’s wounded right now too like yeah this is not the Ohio State team that we saw first part of November and we thought we were going to get this year so they no coach likes excuses but there are excuses if Ohio say doesn’t doesn’t play to the level they would like to play at no matter what happens in that game though we’ll be back with a full recap here on the channel so make sure you
