but you only play two and it goes to like a final top of the group versus second versus third vers fourth happens but that doesn’t matter for this game Oregon the winner of their game against Texas A&M takes on San Diego State the winner of their game against kraton this is not a bracket thing this is just how the schedule makers made it uh but it’s good to see that we got some semblance of normality in how these games have tanned out where the two winners play each other and the two losers play each other uh I’m Connor he’s Joe with sleepers media Joe two I think pretty different teams in how they want to go about winning these games uh Oregon really took off once they started making shots were struggling I think in the early going with the physicality that Texas A&M uh brought to that game early on San Diego State thrives on the ugly what are you looking forward to in this game that might be the simplest like factor in who wins this game is who kind of controls the tempo and the physicality if San Diego State makes this ugly I don’t know if Oregon has the dudes to match up but at the same time if Oregon gets their offense going I don’t know if San Diego state has the offense to be able to match that as well and um I think I think it’s simple analysis but I think I truly believe it it’s just which team is going to control Tempo and physicality is going to be the biggest thing um we’ve seen Oregon multiple times this year slow first half they come out firing in the second half they had a 160 run in three minutes against um oh my God Texas A&M just blanked on who they just played um they can put up points in a hurry but they’ve you said it on on our recap for the Oregon Texas A&M game is they’ve been playing with fire and this like San Diego State is just built if you were going to do that they are just going to kind of bury you it feels like if you if you try to play that game yeah and and to their credit San Diego State while they do Thrive off of chaos they are a good good right now three-point shooting team 55th in the country 37 and a half they’re a bad interior shooting team both these teams are bad from the free throw line so if we get if we get a a uh conservative whistle uh or I guess a loose whistle if they call these this game tight between these two teams who like you know obviously San Diego State uh thrives off of the Phil physicality you could run into an issue where Oregon just walks away with this game from from the line but if they’re allowed to play it’s going to be really tough I think for Nate bidd to get going against Coleman Jones and Guth it’s going to be I think a little bit difficult for Shell stad to get going um against the looks that the this back courts going to throw at you defensively but on the flip side right the the reason why San Diego State doesn’t shoot the ball well from two it’s because their bigs don’t shoot the ball from two like miles 64% BJ Davis 69% both of them are Elite at getting to the rim and fighting through contact uh Pharaoh Compton’s also over 60% and then you have seven foot magon Guth who’s two of nine you have 6 foot 10 uh Jerry Coleman Jones who’s four of nine you’ve got miles Heidi who’s one of three like they are there specifically to play defense and and make shots when needed um they can all like they all like to stretch the floor too Coleman Jones is three of seven from Deep so he’s actually shooting better from Deep by a percentage than he is near the near the basket but what we saw against kraton was a San Diego State team that made it really difficult for a granted an an Ashworth voided team uh to get anything going near the rim but we also saw a team that in the second half just stepped on the throats of these Blue Jays and sucked any morality or you know positive morals out of them they just quit they quit against the San Diego State team and this is an Oregon team that like they need the second half to win these games so far this season so can San Diego State repeat that and just suck the life out of the Ducks yeah and it’s like if you’re Oregon you just can’t let yourself get into that spot I I feel like for this game especially because like you said San dieo state will just do it are you concerned at all I’m talking from Oregon offensive standpoint are you concerned at all that they aren’t able to get into any of their free flowing stuff with how San Diego State plays defense absolutely and I don’t think it’s fair to base this on the kraton game because kraton was to their credit I think they were trying but when you have no point guard and six foot nothing Wayne mcken Jr like successfully fronts Ryan cul brener without like a shaded Defender behind him that’s just kind of like a microcosm of that what that game was but we saw this against Gonzaga Gonzaga had difficulty getting into their free flowing offensive stuff against against uh San Diego State and granded gonzaga’s defense kind of saved them in that game at least I mean they won by 13 they controlled the game but like got them the cover as well in on the 10 and a half point I think the spread closed at game time um but it’s going to be tough I think for Oregon to get going especially if they if San Diego State can really kind of ignore the post and that’s my worry in this one yeah and this is I mean ble bdle has been good he except for this last game he was uh not six points six rebounds that was his worst game of the year like he’s put up double digits every other game put up 23 against Oregon State so like he has it in him and I’m still just like I I think biddle’s good I’ve liked bidd from what I’ve seen this year um I didn’t watch I mean he’s been hurt I know throughout his career I really haven’t seen much of him before this year I’m still not like sure you want to rely on him yet if you’re Oregon given that you have shell stad and you have bomba um the thing yeah I’m I’m also concerned with Oregon’s offense to like just if they can’t get into their kind of flowing offense drives like that’s where it feels like I know San Diego State isn’t um like they don’t force a ton of turnovers per se but like just make Oregon live with tough shots and then from there if you can get some run outs or things like that I know San Diego State doesn’t necessarily want to play fast but like it feels like San Diego State can pick up some easier buckets that way and that’s that’s the difference from this being a two-point game and an eight-point game like coming down the stretch now maybe Oregon just is maybe Oregon’s just every game is going to be like hey let’s see how many points we can be down before we we are able to come back and that’s just going to be the game but I’m I’m concerned I’m concerned that this thing gets to 15 or something like that just because they have no room to operate yeah I think my uh biggest worry in this game because bidd only took three shots against a good Texas A and like a a good a a a good front line for for Texas saying them I wouldn’t call them great but they’re good the the best big that they faced outside of that is probably Porton Austin R and Biddle only took seven shots um went four four of seven so pretty respectable but like he he wasn’t getting a ton of looks near the rim uh in both those games offensive rating was great because the guards played well down the stretch um but My worry is in this game that the mismatch at the guard outside of like shell stead’s probably the best guard on the floor but would it be would it be outrageous to say that San Diego state has the next two to three I don’t yeah I don’t think it’s outrageous just given how TJ bomba has played this year I think I would maybe like overall would still take bomba but like based on this year sample size I don’t think it’s crazy um jri and Tracy for Oregon also has been just really good I guess he’s more of a a wing but no I I think I think that assessment is probably right like if you’re running Nick Boyd miles bird BJ Davis as your backline and then you have mckenny uh like I guess miles Bird’s your wing but mckenny Off the Bench a all playing excellent defense you’ve got two seniors in that rotation two promising sophomores um to me that’s just it’s a recipe for disaster for this Oregon back court that has been very steady to start the year on the flip side we saw what Gonzaga was able to do in terms of controlling the controlling kind of the tempo in the way that game went we saw what the guards for UC San Diego were able to do in terms of just kind of keeping keeping the pressure to a minimum uh um from the San Diego State backline uh and really like their best game defensively was that kraton game without their starting point guard so if there’s any kind of just it like throw the numbers out the two games where you had a fully healthy backourt going up against San Diego State that were D1 back courts uh they weren’t really able like they only forced eight turnovers against UC San Diego they only forced uh eight against Gonzaga they really didn’t put too much too much actual pressure on those point guards and uh I think shelstad being the best player on the probably on the floor in this game uh could be a huge bonus for the Ducks and I think shelstad has to be good because he’s he’s he’s an interesting one where like he’s not turning the ball over at all he’s facilitating his shot diet is so tough it is so many jumpers and sometimes tough jumpers because there are times when orgon bog down especially that it’s hey here’s the ball with s seconds left go do something please and it just it so it’s like his I I keep going back and forth in my head of like hey he isn’t fully taking the leap efficiency wise but also at the same time how much can I like you know do I really discredit him since he’s taken these tough shots and now a game like San Diego State those tough shots might just be there more and he might just have to to Simply knock them down TJ bom I think Falls in that category as well but I think the B the easiest way for Oregon to be able to win this game is shelstad just being the clear-cut best player on the floor yeah and I don’t necessarily mean from a scoring perspective either like I I know that’s not what you’re taking away from that but like facilitating without turning the ball over shad’s been really good at that this year yeah and he needs to continue to be good at that considering the fact that this San Diego State Defense will it wants your guards to feel like there’s chaos around them um and I think we saw Ryan M hard for Gonzaga do a pretty good job at at at fighting through that um and then I also think that for UC San Diego we saw Tyler McGee and Hayden gray do a pretty good job at doing that Hayden gray had four assists zero turnovers Tyler McGee who’s not he’s a he’s a two guard but he has the ball in his hands for most of the game uh he also only had one turnover really it was the front Court in that game that had all the turnovers for UC San Diego and really for Gonzaga it was the wings that had the turnovers so I think uh just just limiting turnovers uh against the San Diego State team should put Oregon in a good position if they I mean if if this game is both teams finish most of their possessions with shots I I’m taking Oregon I think where you really where you really question it is can San Diego State block enough shots and force enough turnover to make this a game and and I agree with with that I think a lot uh the only thing because I think we it’s been a lot of Oregon offense versus San Diego State Defense which is just naturally going to be the discussion point with the San Diego State team the one thing that kind of stands out is San dieo state has shot the ball well we’ll see if it holds or not they have shot the ball well from three Oregon gives up a lot of Threes or three-point attempts they defended him pretty well I know some of that skewed by early season um just naturally these bu games teams tend to put up more threes but if it turns into hey like can you outscore us if you’re Oregon um San dieo State at least in theory has shooters that can do it I don’t know if I fully trust it but that is the one case of like Oregon knocking down shots but if San Diego State hasn’t a hot shooting night that they put up a lot maybe that’s that’s where they’re able to balance it out I don’t think I trust that though no I I don’t I I think this is going to be I cuz I think San Diego State even if they’re not making shots they’ll put enough pressure on the rim uh where you might see them get like a Nate Biddle or uh like awami Evans or someone into foul trouble early and then you’ve got kind of opened up uh a just a depth and a war of attrition advantage against Oregon um I think there’s a lot more I’ll say this I think Oregon’s a better team but I think in this particular matchup there is a lot more paths to victory for San Diego State than there is for Oregon and that would scare me if I’m the Ducks because like you have to have it be a clean game you have to have it be a low turnover game uh and you kind of just need it to be like like what it was in the second half against Texas A&M um because anything else if it’s a if it’s a foul game or if it’s a physical game without fouls San Diego State wins if it’s a foul game I think you give the edge to Oregon just because they’re better from the stripe but if it’s a game where San Diego State’s making things chaotic you lose if it’s a physical game even if there’s not a lot of turnovers and you’re just taking tough contact like shots through contact Oregon probably loses like there’s just so many things that San Diego State I think can do on both ends of the floor that’ll benefit them um that being said Oregon has the best player on the floor who’s also their point guard they’re the better team I think right now they’re the healthy team right now and so the likelihood that their path to Victory is the path that’s taken uh is probably pretty high with that I think I’m with oh I’m sorry no go go ahead I was just gonna say I agree and I was gonna give my prediction uh but if you were going to go for it no I was gonna say with that the Kemp pom’s predicted result right now because diers has not posted their best bet uh is 70 to 68 or I would lean Oregon like uh I think like 77 to 70 I think there’s a little bit of scoring still I think they’re able to operate well um and still be able to score the ball that’s what I’ll go with okay I’m gonna stick with my San Diego State from La like I just even against Gonzaga there was just so much that I liked from San Diego State that I’ve seen in two half scenarios where like or they’ve struggled early in over half their games and so I think I think that happens again and I just don’t think it’s easy to come I could see this game being like an eight-point lead for San Diego State at the half and a three-point win for San Diego State and that’s what I’m going to go with I’m going to go 73 to 70 San Diego State in a tight one that like comes down to the wire but San Diego State also has they have shot makers that can make shots at the end of the game like can Maybe not maybe I wouldn’t trust them to get their own three but if you’re telling me that it’s the end of the game and you’ve got Nick Boyd or BJ Davis going at The Rim to like secure a three-point lead with you know two seconds on the clock or whatever and then I need to trust San Diego State to foul up three not two seconds I guess that’s too late for a foul up three but like five six seconds on the clock uh and I need to trust San Diego State to win by fouling up three three like I’m going to take that bet every time because I’ve just seen them be so good in clutch moments um so yeah give me give me San Diego State 73 Oregon 70 I still don’t know where that puts them in the the bracket thingy that this players era Festival is doing but we will see about that because those games are being played I believe Friday um after Thanksgiving uh I forget exactly when they’re playing it’s a it’s a weird I think it’s Saturday is it Saturday am I it’s weird cuz yeah what happens if or no the winner of this should play in the first place game what the winner of this theoretically should play in the first place game the loser like this one I think is easy we have no idea what the other side of the bracket’s going to look like yeah um because the first two games for each team were predetermined so you might have like a winning team playing a losing team and then you’ve got a bunch of one in-one teams at the end of that event uh because the first game in that on that side of the bracket is Notre Dame and at the time of the recording we don’t know what that score is going to be but one of them’s going to come away with a win and then have to play Alabama or Houston so uh but we we will we will
