take us through the def decisions are deferrals good for teams well if you if you get a $52 million signing bonus deferrals are good good right because it’s all Net Present Value looking at things and so when you go through this it’s how you do that so uh so it’s uh kind of that format of the balancing of what the PVS affected LS versus what the advanced payments are so it’s kind of how that worked out with them they’re over a billion dollars to 2046 or something like that is does it appear to you to be kind of a strategy that’s forming at least one team is looking at it as something they can use well I I I would hate to comment on their overall strategy but obviously when you can go get best and kind and you’re a world champion that’s usually a pretty rare situation so that kind of allows them and also you have to have the format where the player his willingness and years and how things are done the a so everybody was on the same page here you know there’s no cap on how much money teams can defer do you like it that it’s that way that teams have that flexibility that they can I think you know in sport we want the excitement of intellect Opera you know we have rules that prevent certain owners from doing certain things you get the vanilla of what you see in the NBA and the NFL here you have chances for Goliath Goliath I think in the game are always good why because the answer is there’s there’s love and hate and that’s part of sport I think it makes it more more exciting and and and the fact that of it is that in major markets there’s a greater air Factor you know because you can you can Venture into things that often don’t work out and you can recover from them much quicker so um to create legacies and dynastes that we all talk about and go through is that the es and flow of talent is that baseball is a great sport because you have to have so many numbers of skill to allow you the consistency of a legacy in some sports you can have a small number where those few good players allow you a constant dominance and baseball’s a little bit different the numbers range up to four to six rather than you know two to three so uh I think that ownerships that can increase those numbers of core that you have then you’re going to have the ability for legacy building and and creating I think what audiences love to see they love to see the that special era say they’re a part of it to to note that they’re they’re uh seeing something that’s rare and special did you sense Blake did want to attack this winner a little differently and light know what happened last year La last year remember that last year was an element what Blake said clubs weren’t interested they just didn’t call you know it’s the market for free agents last year started maybe in the middle of February was that different and uh people like to register that it has something to do with me I’m I’m just a functionary of a of a system and you know we’ve signed six seven players already this year so um these are the processes of of demand and when teams and ownerships choose to move in a Marketplace why do you why do you think the market seems to be moving faster this year than last a I wish I can answer those questions I do I think a lot of it has to do with media certainty platforms work they’re assured that this streaming thing is that they have going on is very viable very profitable um I don’t think they like to say that but obviously the markets indicate that there is a different attitude about what it is and also you know who’s in the market has a lot to do with things too you have major Market franchises you have a generational talent in the market uh which really illustrates the needs you also have a consequence of Co is that we used all of our able a and AAA talent to try to get through 22 23 24 and now the gap between organizational prospects and pitching and the pitching available they’re having to sign veteran pitchers um a lot earlier and it’s a lot more aggressive because of that reason do you think the expanded playoff field adding a couple wild card teams has brought more teams into that market I I think the the opportunity for probability for winning is certainly greater um which again increases the need for that that core talent to get them through that first levels of playoff and all those things yeah time table on what’s that do you have any timable expectation on one uh it’s you know when you’re going through these things he’s just got a lot of information to meld through we’ve had meetings with a number of franchises he’s begun the process of eliminating teams and doing things and so he’s one is a very methodical thinker so we’ll we’ll see but I I don’t think anything is imminent in the near future what do you say the teams who say do were Bing Champion that’s not fair well I would say that as George Bryant steinber said whatever you do to compete the fact that I can compete in a different way than others so be you know so it’s all I don’t think that has anything to do with the number trophies and hangover your Stadium I don’t think fans remember that you know and this was a very easy decision or was it an easy decision for he and for you to make I think Andrew and Blake were on the same page we we had a long meeting about two weeks ago and they understood one another they uh really philosophically were very inclined and I think what Andrew wanted and what Blake wanted were really very much on the same page and how close was Blake to possibly sign with this team before you sign with the Giants last offseason with the Dodgers yeah um the uh the Dodgers interest is always something that uh I think Blake was aware of it came very very late and frankly he was well down the road in his decision making before it came so uh really he kind of uh didn’t get a chance I think to appraise it with great depth and how important do you think that his relationships with Andrew Freeman glass house and these guys with this team were in fact decision well I I could see from the meetings that we had at lunch um that it was something where they really understood one another there was a great deal of confidence in one another and a lot of comfort a lot of comfort awes thanks God than one other thing on defer is do teams that do it have a way to make it they have to put the money aside so is it an opportunity for them to make a little money off of absolutely no question you’re when you’re looking at the data points about what remember when they defer the money into a pool they get to invest that money that’s in that pool so they get an opportunity to use their Capital to gain more Capital but they obviously have to fund it to that level good see you
