uh welcome into the studio here few minutes from firing up uh SEC football final and its full 60-minute form but uh speaking of form Texas looked to be in pretty good form especially defensively and the agies learned that especially on that big stop after the block punt yeah I I thought the message from the get-go was that we’re going to be the more physical team and I know that that A&M fans probably don’t like to hear this but big brother came out and pushed him around today on both lines of scrimmage that’s what happens on you know you you’re running the football the way that that Weisner did late in the ball game demoralizing that defense and eating up time but also the the fourth down tries 0 of three and you’re completely not even getting back to the line of scrimmage getting stuffed up front because of the penetration you made the comment about the push that all of that maroon line going backwards like they were on skates it was impressive yeah and it’s not just the 0 of three on fourth down it was where it happened I mean it was twice in the red zone and this Tex A&M offense couldn’t do anything you look at the score and say okay 17 to7 no but that was a pick six so the defense actually scored the offense did absolutely nothing no scoring drives and so I thought Texas Texas defense kind of showed who they were there were some doubts I think about this football team had they played anybody I think they answered a lot of those questions offensively I thought that Texas and Quinn yers showed a lot Quinn showed his ability to run the football to get out of the pocket he had a couple explosive plays with his legs you mix in a little bit of arch Manning there this is a dangerous football team did your opinion of Texas change tonight uh as as it pertains to the playoff I would say that my opinion of Texas was concretized tonight and and and that and that opined yeah that opinion was that this is a team that look they’re top in the nation on offense they’re top in the nation in defense again talking about who they played I thought they were good tonight I know that they’re good going on the road going into a hostile environment in a rivalry game there was never a doubt that they didn’t have control of this football let me say in a way that you and I were not as smart can understand they had an eye incomplete before after this this was the final exam they got an A because I think that they are the team that we kind of hoped that they would be but they hadn’t really been tested tonight in that environment that setting with all the emotion they handled all of it past with flying colors for all we know concertize is a word I no it’s doubt that dude man like no it’s definitely a word 100% word only mature people know that word but we don’t know that uh let’s get into that decision not to kick a field goal do we agree I argue with anybody all day long it’s a two-possession ball game and you said it at the time when you know you can’t necessarily score then you got to take the points I mean A&M had the ball there at the end with a chance if You’ have kicked the field goal would have been a one possession game and you’re driving to tie it up yeah especially if you haven’t been moving though especially if on third down you end up going backwards and then on fourth down you try to not run Straight Ahead the shortest distance between two points is a straight line and you go to the C Gap it it wasn’t going to end well in the end matter I me Texas was a better team tonight wasn’t frankly wasn’t even as close as the score indicated it never felt like it especially to walk into that place yeah and take care of business the way that they did props to Texas we’re diving in all of it and the rest of the brings almost brings tears to to our eyes but we’re not the only ones here in the SEC who experience tears in the eyes a lot of emotion a lot of big wins a lot of tough losses a lot of Heartache lot of Celebration Dory doring Watson and we start with a game that has never been featured on this air Network and walks out with a 177 win giving up no points to that A&M offense whatsoever Texas goes to the SEC title game where they will Face Georgia for a second time this season Steve sarkeesian oh my goodness and here it is right doesn’t take long for social media to fire it on up it is our state yes indeed Kyle Field belonged to Texas as the horns get the win they are off to Atlanta they will Face Georgia in the championship game what impressed I’ll start with you what impressed you most about the Longhorns on this night the physicality um from the very beginning it was obvious they weren’t going to let Texas A&M run the football Texas A&M was held to their lowest output of the Season only 90 something yards under 100 yards for the first time this entire season they didn’t allow them to get going not only the Run game or the pass game they stop him on fourth down they stopped them twice in the red zone it will show what we thought about them was real to go on the road in a tough environment you’ve seen teams lose over the last couple weeks going on the road they go on the road to it’s one of the toughest environments in the nation and they take control of a football game it was never in doubt Dar what do you do when your phone freezes up when things aren’t going well it’s not working the right way what do you do with your phone throw it on the ground other than that what you he you should do is manually when things don’t go well he just gets a new one this guy seriously when things don’t go wellong for Texas’s offense what they do is they manually reset it go back to the factory settings the factory settings are running the football the second half they ran the ball 31 times and the way that they execute that is with Trey Weisner last week when things weren’t going well against Kentucky they go on a 15pl drive to seal things that ended in a touchdown Weisner having the majority of the carries tonight the same way you talked about the 186 yards that he had this was like an old school Earl Campbell style Ricky Williams style running number line you know the in the stats the old days where you had that Bell C back he’s that guy and I owe the Texas Longhorn offensive line an apology I’ve been doubting you all season they went out there and imposed their will on a very good front seven for Texas A&M I’m excited about this rematch in Atlanta can we give a little love too to Quinn ERS obviously you know he’s got this deal with Arch Manning and he’s handled it beautifully and even when Arch comes in Quinn handles it beautifully continues to play great football dropping dimes on the road in a the thing that he saw multiple times when he decided to take off was that the A&M defense was playing man coverage and when man coverage you got your back turned he said look I may not be healthy but I can go get enough yards here and he kept continuing to run the ball because nobody saw that he had it there so I I think he is starting to feel really good right now in terms of the way he’s being utilized but credit to you you mentioned the the way that these guys have been managed that they could could go astray but the coaching staff obviously has laid out what the roles are responsibilities and those two guys have handled it very maturely maturely tly Texas gets the win again they get Georgia and a chance to avenge the loss in Austin they will play next Saturday in WoW here they are 9 and3 5-3 in SEC play they went 3-2 against teams that are currently ranked in this top 25 the All State Playoff predictor gives him a 26% chance of making the playoff but Shane Beamer’s enthusiasm over the victory certainly was not dampened by that still somewhat low number all right hold this Trophy up remember one thing fellas it’s not where you’re located it’s who you are and we are the University of [Applause] South if he would just get a little amped upside if we can see the you know the range of emotions what cheering and you know remember what the great Jim valano said right every day you should laugh every day you should cry no are you players love that guy everybody loves it and you know what is awesome about them unlike some of the other teams you talk about the playoff well this guys took care of business they not only went out and won their game they knocked a team that was ahead of them out from behind them so unlike these other guys they couldn’t finish these guys found a way to finish and that’s what they’ve been doing the last couple weeks getting better and better and better as The Season’s gone on talk about finishing think about this fourth quarter South Carolina was 0 and 19 under Shane Beamer when they were trailing by seven or more points in the fourth quarter and so what they do in the fourth quarter they scored 10 points the defense holds Clemson in this case it does open the window a little bit for them in in the col play hon what side were you on as a kid as a kid I was on well my sister went to Clemson my brother went to South Carolina I was recruited by both didn’t go to either um fair enough what is call down down I was I was literally down the middle literally down the middle but congratulations to South Carolina this big win you I sat next to him last night at the school he actually went to we watched him play and you used the word resilient I feel like resiliency has been a theme for the entire weekend whether it was Georgia whether it was today watching the way that that the the uh South Carolina Gamecocks play you talked about the bad start but I also go back to early in the season failure is kind of what makes you those are the painful lessons that help you become better and remember that Al abama game down late they’re trying to come back from the deficit and they fail on that two-point conversion today Lenor cers was not going to allow his team to fail that final drive where they took the lead 75 yard drive he accounted for 50 of them with his legs on the ground just willed his team to Victory and I it it’s the the committee looks at how you’re playing at the end if this is like basketball this is a team that deserves to be in because of the way basketball took that away several years ago that last 10 games thing doesn’t matter anymore which it should you don’t think it matters to people you don’t think that human beings take that it should it should without question Heather denn going to join us coming up a little bit later we will ask her directly about the three lost teams in this league namely South Carolina and if they can overcome the head-to-head losses to Bama and Old Miss now that it’s been a month and a half to two months down the road since it happened so Heather will join us to dive into that as milro throws for 256 runs for 104 and had again the three rushing touchdowns much better performance than he had a week ago although the that still too many turnovers no doubt going to drive that coaching staff absolutely wild but 2814 Alabama gets the win let’s talk about it be D from Alabama’s perspective here the bounceback right the character tester Kayla deor clearly dug into these guys a little bit over the course of the last week and they looked better they did they did and the reason why they looked better was because Jaylen milro was able to do some of the things that we’ve seen him do so well over the course of his career there and I’m glad you mentioned some of his superlatives this was his third career game with 250 yards passing it was very clear coming to this football game that Alabama wanted to dictate the game to Auburn especially with the Run game especially with jayen milro how many times have we talked about Jaylen milro being the best player on the field with the football in his hands and I think sometimes his teammates are in awe like they always expect him to do everything and you saw last week uh a compilation of guys not making plays expecting him to bail him out he can’t do everything but today he was able to go in there and make plays when he needed to and and it ended up being the reason why they won the football game particularly on third down Auburn ends the season five and seven four- straight losing season they haven’t had that many losing seasons in a row from n except from 19 46 to 50 I don’t know if you need a drink or if you want to go and Hammer this but Auburn had chances they just couldn’t make him yeah and I meant water too not you know what I mean after watching the offense there executing the Red Zone probably do but I’ll say this the the the execution was not great great down in the Red Zone too many trips down there where they didn’t get points or or kick field goals and some of that falls on the the the team itself but I thought the play calling I thought so you mentioned the the jarwest hunter double pass call there on first down as they got close to the Red Zone also they get the ball with a minute 40 left right before the half at the 34 yd line after a turnover two timeouts and they completely mismanaged it I thought there was a lack of creativity down in that part of the field they take a delay of game on Fourth and two from the two yd line you got it on the road you got nothing to lose you’re a five- win team trying to get Bowl eligible at your arch Rivals Place execute down there be creative and go finish that drive and and not play as conservative as they were in the Red Zone yeah a program that could have used a bowl game and all the extra practices that come with it he continues to build things but build this thing but got a great recruiting class coming in if it holds we certainly hope it does it’s 2024 uh anything goes as we know okay Tennessee and Vanderbilt Tennessee knows look there were virt to a lock any and joshh Hy go to 10 and two I challenge you guys today or yesterday really throughout the week man it couldn’t have started any worse and you know what competitive composure The Good the Bad the Ugly everything in between listen up like everything in between you Jets kept coming that’s what Elite people that’s what Champions do man like you just keep coming hey what do we want to be about in the postseason right what what do we want I know we’re going to play physical we play smarter in our execution alignment assignment technique the details but it’s got to be all in everybody invested like every minute of the day because you’ve been working since January this was the goal but man like take a minute enjoy this thing enjoy it tonight and then we got to get physically healed up as good as we can to go play our best football here in a couple weeks everybody got me a lot of those guys have been hearing about since the day that it got announced we were going into the SEC that we were going to struggle in the SEC and that it was going to be hard and that we’re going to come into this environment tonight and it was going to be the toughest environment in college football and we wouldn’t be ready for it so there was a lot of things that we’ve been challenged with that I think has have been brewing inside of a lot of people in that locker room coaches players included and so to to do it in the fashion that we did that wasn’t a gimmick win you know we didn’t hit trick plays and things we lined up and played good hardnose football and executed and um couple balls didn’t go bounce our way but we won the game in a physical manner which is what we know we needed to do in the in the Southeastern Conference I love that guy so much yeah and I love what he’s preaching to his team and you know last year when they went to Tuscaloosa they beat up Alabama they beat him on the lines of scrimmage and we said wow this team’s ready to come into the SEC and then they went and played Georgia and Georgia exposed him and all of a sudden we were questioning whether or not they were ready well the last couple weeks they’ve imposed their will they did it up in the big house earlier in the season they ran the football well last week against Kentucky did the same thing again tonight now they have a chance against your alma mater to go back and show that that game back back early in the season was an aberration and the real Texas Longhorn team is the physical one that we saw tonight I mean this is a team though I mean let’s not forget this team was in the playoff last year like this this team was was one win away from winning a national championship last year and largely had a lot of those guys coming back so I hear what sark’s saying about the challenge about being the SEC the tough thing about the conference is the day in day out the week in week out you’re seeing teams beat each other but for Texas to go on the road again to go to cyfield renew that rivalry play against a tough football team and beat them the way they did holding them down to 100 yards rushing the fourth down stops just the physicality of tackling the running backs and not only the running backs the quarterbacks running with the football breaking Arch Manning’s breaking tackles you know so the attitude of this football team uh is where it needs to be this this game coming up uh next week is going to be a good one massive props to to S to to have this team SEC ready from the jump because it’s this is not a league you just walk into and and Waltz into the conference Championship game but they have and Ward bails them out every single time their defense has been exped elsewhere Oregon beats Washington they go 12 and0 Iowa State beats K State just something to watch in the Big 12 Notre day punches a ticket they’re in the playoff Penn State punches a ticket there in the Big 10 title said per was going to give Indiana a hard time today nobody said that I did not don’t told me out of that bus I’ve seen the boilers play football all right let’s get into a little bit more of this playoff chatter with our friend Heather denich who’s been doing this stuff all day long starting early in the morning Heather college football reporter I I’ve seen the bracket you put out I think we’ll put it up on the screen and you’ve got three SEC teams in this is there a path to a fourth in any way shape or form as you see it well if there is it would require Clemson to beat SMU SMU to fall out and Alabama would move in because right now Alabama is my 12th ranked team but they would be bumped out of the college football playoff that’s why you don’t see them in the bracket here because Arizona state would be the fifth highest ranked conference champion and knock the tide out but of course Dar this goes back to the whole conversation about who the committee’s top three loss team would be and I kept it Alabama om Miss South Carolina even though South Carolina beat Clemson added to their resume but I do think the selection committee is going to honor those head-to-head results again this week and that’s the thing I think a lot of people especially South Carolina fans A3 struggle with is because it was a while ago they’ve won six in a row they’re better right now than Old Miss they’re better right now than Alabama and I think most people would probably agree with that why does that if it’s about the best not put South Carolina in a higher position given that the head-to-head matchups were relatively a long time ago well it’s certainly a fair question but my guess is that selection committee chair Ward Manuel would answer it by saying that because they are three three loss teams lumped together and within the room they deem them comparable they are really encouraged to look down at their protocol and head-to-head results is one of the tie Breakers that they’re supposed to use to help separate comparable teams so it really all boils down to do they think those three teams are comparable and you know they will probably point out the fact that they didn’t just lose to South Carolina got beat pretty bad bioms but to your point there will be certain committee members in the room who are saying look this team is much better than it was that day and they’ve shown noticeable Improvement they’ve added to their resume with a ranked win against Clemson and there’s a case for it but at the end of the day I just I think that the head-to-head results will Loom large in that room what you know to be totally honest as Syracuse was beating Miami there were a lot of people in our building here in Charlotte rejoicing right because there was this idea that Miami would say adios and maybe that opens the door I was hesitant to believe that you’ve got Miami in what is keeping the canes in this field well it’s It’s Tricky and maybe I’m wrong but I do think that the selection committee has weighed the eye test over strength of schedule not just with Miami and Indiana but throughout this entire season quite honestly more heavier than really any past committee that I’ve covered in a decade of the playoff and they like camore they like this offense they like close losses and Ward Manuel spoke recently about Miami losing a close game to Georgia Tech this is on the road it was to Syracuse I can just see the conversation unfolding and the fact that quite simply they have one fewer loss than these three loss SEC teams
