what’s going on everyone Mike cic Taylor Kyles here for CS media inside of Gillette Stadium as the Patriots just got rocked 40-7 to the Los Angeles Chargers a reminder we are powered by prize picks and game time and we’re also powered by a 3 and 13 now Patriots football team as again they L by it’s like putting canola oil in a Ferrari pretty much they fall like we mentioned to 3 and 13 and inside this Stadium today a few times there were fire Mayo chance about the Patriots head coach again they they fall they lose in embarrassing fashion and uh that’s kind of where we’re at right now it feels like you know throughout this entire season there has been reports from joena Anderson NFL networksan rport and Tom peliso even come out today and mentioned that uh barring some type of Calamity over the final two games of the campaign the expectation is that craft will give Mayo another season to not prove himself not prove J Mayo right but Robert Craft right so now we come in they lose 40 to7 and everything seems to be on the table so Taylor if you were the crafts if you were the Patriots right now would you fire Mayo should they fire mayo and what do you think ultimately happens with this team with their head coach’s future kind of in disarray right now yeah I don’t like the idea of craft wanting to prove himself right because that feels a little bit selfish when again you’ve got an entire Stadium chanting to fire your head coach now we have been on Patriots press pass talking for months about how you can’t fire a guy after one year unless it is a disaster and you lose the locker room you got to give him some more opportunities especially with a better roster but by Gerard Mayo’s own admission the goal for this season was to improve down the stretch get better towards the end and obviously look better after your by week which obviously they had a really late buy they tried to say you know what it’s been a really long season they haven’t had a break hopefully they can catch their breath a little bit really focus on how they need to improve and do those things you saw a little bit of that against the bills last week but all that Goodwill is gone because now two out of the past three weeks you’ve been blown out by good teams now of course there is a talent deficit that has to be acknowledged but the effort on the field where Daniel aqual is saying in the locker room that he felt like guys giving up and you also have guys in the locker room saying there needs to be changed we heard that from Keon white we heard it from De Mario Douglas so these are all the things that you start to add up and you’re saying well this is kind of exactly what we were afraid of start to unravel a little bit exactly and then on top of it not only are you not producing on the field but then with the media stuff which I honestly thought was overblown for a while I’m like yeah the guy steps on his words whatever he’s a young coach doesn’t mean any harm by it like with the calling the team soft I understood what he meant by that the phrasing was poor and I think the team mostly took it to two and they used it for fuel and they ended up at least playing competitive the next game exactly but here’s where I can’t really give him a pass because one it’s still happening we’ve heard that he’s trying to become more bichi and he’s trying to be more buttoned up but it still seems like at least once a week he says something that ends up just going around either the Boston media space or sometimes going National where he makes the team look unserious the latest example was saying Antonio Gibson on 98.5 before the game was going to start because we as you can probably guess rre Stevenson Los losing his fourth fumble or third or fourth fumble but Antonio Gibson said after the game because rre Stevenson did start the game that he had never been told that he was going to be the starter and that they thought it was going to be business as usual that is an inexplicable lack of communication between gerod Mayo his offense coordinator and his players and it’s not the first time that it sounded like gerod mayo and some of his coaches weren’t on the same page when you add all these things up and then go back to the question we’ve been asking of what does gerod mayo do or what does he do well it’s really hard to find it you had Devon gacha saying hey you know we have to be better top down from the front office the players and all that but when I asked him what gerod Mayo has done that’s helped make them better you know he didn’t really give an answer he kind of just tipped to around it he pivoted and said that fan shouldn’t have been chant chanting fire mayo and that he felt that that was disrespectful but one the fans pay to see these games there weren’t a whole lot of people paying to see this game the stadium was quite sparse but the fans can do what they want as long as they’re not saying grotesque things obviously and that’s how they felt they do not like this coaching staff right now and they don’t really have a reason to so if I’m the crafts I’m going to have more open mind and do you have to necessarily fire drod Mayo I just still don’t think they’re going to do that if you decide you don’t though serious changes need to be made on the coaching staff especially on the defensive side of the ball give Alex Van Pelt a good offensive line maybe a couple more explosive talents and see what he can do because I don’t think he’s been the reason this team has been so bad but Demarcus Covington a guy that we rarely hear players really step up to defend not that they’re always asked about him specifically but but they defend Mayo I haven’t really heard them defend Demarcus cumington and he hasn’t really done anything to justify returning next season as a defensive coordinator so you need to make some changes but even still I would keep my mind open to the possibility of firing gerro Mayo after this season and if they do it can’t just be Mike reel automatically I think you need to do a head coaching search learn from your mistake that I hey I’m learning from my mistakes I wanted Rod Mayo to work I didn’t really mind them not doing a search because I figured Robert Craft has hired some pretty damn good NFL head coaches maybe he just sees something in Gerard Mayo that others don’t and he really wants to invest in it and obviously gerod Mayo was being looked at as a potential head coaching candidate even before that but now you tried to lock a guy in it didn’t work out do not go with one option make sure you exhaust all of your resources and do the best you can because Drake May has shown that he’s their face of the franchise now give him a serious head coach who can maximize his ability you know you’ve done something wrong when you have Taylor Kyle this upset after a Patriots game again they fall 40 to7 and I’m with you right I mean the way that this whole thing has gone on I we’ve we’ve said it on the channel where give this guy a chance it has has been great around him with uh the Personnel that’s been given from even the prior regime and your roster is kind of decrepit and Elliot wolf maybe didn’t do a great job as far as the jayen pul lad Maki situation but he also brought you your franchise quarterback so there’s been some up and downs and it hasn’t been uh it wasn’t a great situation to step into however the the self uh the self-inflicted gaps the the media talking the things where Daniel Jonathan Jones all these guys mentioning that guys are quitting it doesn’t seem like that locker room that we even talked about two weeks ago after the Cardinal game that scene behind him it kind of looks like it’s slowly starting to unravel here so we’ll see what happens but I do agree with you too as much as I just joked and tweeted out a Mike Vel in a Patriots uh in Patriots attire meme like thanks Gro yeah like I don’t think you necessarily just go straight to Vel you have to open it up Ben Johnson is a candidate couple other guys as well Josh McDaniels I mean may even come along with Mike Vel so we’ll see what happens there but the way that they just kind of handed this thing to ger Mayo it didn’t feel earned and I feel like a lot of fans think that was a mistake in its own right so Patriots lose this one Fall 2 three and 13 they have one more game left here right behind us uh in Foxboro taking on the Buffalo Bills next week we will be here for updates all week long and for the rest of this season as the Patriots carry on this 2024 into 2025 season thank you for watching and we will see you next time
