[Music] welcome in everybody uh Bobby Burton here joined by CJ Vogal CJ live at DKR right now the sun is shining bright out there got the big Longhorn logo in the background CJ you were on hand for the Steve sarkeesian pressure But first you just had somebody walk by you moments ago carrying a football tell people a little bit about it yeah they got they got Jaden blue carrying the football around campus today just saw him walking around DKR so doing what they can as they did with jerck Gibson to prevent some of those fumbles uh keep it a mind set I saw him carrying that thing high and tight so he’s he’s doing as he’s asked funny stuff all right we’re going to get directly to Steve sarkeesian’s opening statement here Matt our producer has it ready for us uh Matt Let’s uh let’s play Steve sisian opening statement from this morning’s press conference from the game that thought were important um and we talked a lot about playing complimentary football and it showed up again in this game uh when you we get the turnover gelani McDonald’s interception we turn that into seven points uh to to score a touchdown I think our last seven turnovers uh that we’ve created uh We’ve turned five of those into touchdowns and the other two we drove the ball and then ended up taking a knee and so the fact that we’re playing off of each other that way on the flip side where I thought complimentary football showed up in this game as well was a couple of the turnovers there in the third quarter that our defense was able to take the field in a sudden change manner uh and give up no points you know they they force the Miss field goal they force a fourth down stop and that’s playing off of one another as well in in doing it both ways and so I thought that was that was really encouraging um naturally defensively uh our ability to get to the quarterback the last couple weeks has been impressive um I think we have 12 sacks the last two weeks six in each game and in each game five different players getting sacks in those games and so it’s not about relying on one player getting those sacks uh a variety of guys are making those plays I really think the presence of of uh Weisner what he’s been able to do the last couple weeks has really shown up and really the presence of of Jaden blue those two guys combined have have really created uh a running game for us that has been physical that’s been downhill um that’s that’s really been important I think Gunner Helm continues to play at a high level for us offensively and you think about that that Kentucky defense coming in and and how difficult they were and people struggled to move the ball on them I thought we moved the ball really well I thought we got in the red area the number one red zone defense in our conf conference to go four or five for touchdowns in that game was really critical um but again as we all know coming out of that ball game our ability to hold on to the football has to improve this week um if we want to try to get the outcome that we’re looking for so uh exciting time uh to go to go to College Station Saturday definitely exciting and they’re very good football team you know coach elco’s done a great job uh in year one um you know they definitely have an elite Premier defensive front uh that that kind of is the strength of that team with all that being said they’re good in a lot of other areas as well uh they’re excellent third down defense um they get after the quarterback um you know I think offensively they’re very efficient they control the ball uh they are a very good Red Zone offensive football team and when they get there they score touchdowns I think the you know inserting read at quarterback has provided a real spark for them uh they’re a big offensive football team they’re a big offensive line they got big receivers they got a physical running back uh so they POS a lot of great challenges for us um but these are the games that you look forward to playing in and uh with something on the line um you know we’re excited about the opportunity and we gota got to prepare really well this week uh if you’re just now joining us joining us that was Steve sarkeesian at the mic just minutes ago I’m Bobby Burton joined by CJ vogle this is the on Texas football special episode for SAR pressor brought to you by our friends over at Duck Camp uh CJ we thought after that opening uh statement we thought the first question would be about Quinn ‘s health and guess what it was about Quinn ‘s Health what is Steve Saran have to say h about the Texas quarterback yeah the uh the original quote was I think he is doing okay so not entirely uh the most confident answer we might have been expecting from sarkeesian about Quinn but obviously didn’t look like he was doing too well with that ankle in the second half anyway so we’ll see of course Texas will be on the practice field this afternoon with Quinn is expected to participate in and so Sark was basically saying you know what I think he’s doing all right but we will see after this morning’s practice uh going on a little bit later this afternoon the training staff he’s been been getting treatment obviously on that ankle uh and of course Texas will do everything they can to make sure that number three is ready to go Saturday in College Station yeah one of the things I wanted to hit on we’ve got a number of a list of things coming out of sar’s pressor we wanted to hit on was that schedule change Sark said the university itself right now has no classes this week week uh therefore uh he’s going to have the guys come in in the evening and do afternoon practices in part to re-energize and recharge themselves and their bar and their bodies from all those early morning practices but also because guess what A&M is a night game uh this week in College Station uh that’ll be on ABC in prime time uh CJ that is a Difference Maker but really A lot of the press conference today it felt like they were talking about the buildup to this renewal of the Texas Texas A&M rivalry yeah SAR is actually pretty funny talking about these big rivalry games saying you know what they’re really fun in the buildup and they’re probably really fun for about the first quarter and then it gets into just being a slugfest of a football game and that’s kind of the expectation going into this weekend is hey it’s fun for you and I Bobby it’s fun for everybody in the chat and Texas and A&M fans alike to sit back and say Hey you know we’re glad that the Rivalry is here but for the team and for sarkeesian it’s his job and the staff’s job to ensure that this week of buildup IS as planned exactly what we’ve seen for 11 straight weeks now uh so far this season they’re making sure that this doesn’t get too emotional for the players and it doesn’t become too big of a game especially with what’s at stake play emotional or play with emotion don’t play emotional that’s the plan for sarkeesian and the and the staff to instill this week in practice yeah I I tell you one of the things that I loved about what Sark said there was you know everybody’s excited and then a game breaks out right and that’s kind of one of those things where we as fans or as reporters we’re taking it all in at the same time but really they’re focused on controlling what they can control and that means going out there and doing what they can he was also asked about whether or not he’s in Texas is in the college football playoffs he goes that’s not for me to decide that’s for uh fans and the playoff committee Etc I’m focused on us coming here to win uh this game and go to the the SEC Championship one of the better quotes of the day actually CJ I thought uh was a a reporter and I don’t know who it was but hats off to him saying that Sark is now one of only three coaches in University of Texas history to win 10 games in back-to-back Seasons following of course Daryl K Royal and M Brown Sark now one of only three coaches in Texas football history to do that uh that’s that’s gaining some notoriety there for him uh as well as we look at this right now for for Steve sarkeesian this game though a big one in determining anyone’s Legacy involved with Texas and Texas A&M the first time the two teams will meet in 13 years all right uh Sark was also asked about improvements uh who’s made the biggest Improvement what he saw from a long from that long drive from his offensive line we’re going to talk about that and then something that we’re going to call nuances of the game uh but but first some up for you again duck camp.com all right CJ he talked about that long drive on FR on on Saturday 15 plays eight 86 yards eight plus minutes off the clock uh he said he complimented not only his offensive line but his tight ends Trey Weiser and how he ran the football uh he said it was his second drive that he really felt similar to including the one the previous week at Arkansas what did he really say about that that that caught your attention about those two drives it was basically the Texas offensive line going out and stealing their will on another team and you know I think that’s what we expected a little bit more of this year coming in uh to the season but hey there’s been two really impressive drives that Texas has been able to uh really just ride behind that offensive line he mentioned the the seven eight minute drive against Arkansas to close out the game and obviously the 15 play drive against Kentucky who hey they’ve got a good solid you know front on the the Texas or on the K Kentucky side of the ball to go 15 plays all Rush attempts and really just put that game Out Of Reach he said that offensive line is great for their confidence it’s great for the confidence of the offense to know that when we call the rush plays that this is the result that we are expecting uh for the running backs to be rewarded for their afternoon for the wide receivers to come in and have uh impactful blocks at the second level really positive note all the way around especially going into what will be games Texas needs to run the football with success in to have that balance attack offensively positive note on both both end of games there for the Longhorns another thing he mentioned in that is the focus it takes to do that and the mental strength uh to put those two long drives together at the right times uh he thought that was a uh a symbol of what’s going right right now with the offense even in the fite of the circumstances around them uh he was also asked about players who who have improved so far this year Kobe black uh got a nod that was unsuspecting black was named the Texas Special Teams player of the week young freshman out of Waco got a big nod from uh Steve sarkeesian this morning he sure did two tackles a really impressive day on Special Forces for the Longhorns and that kind of goes to his development again hey maybe it’s just a a Trend that we’ll see moving forward Bobby with all these wakeo Connelly kids and their impacts on special special teams but uh that’s one of the things where hey you didn’t see any snaps for Kobe black on the defensive side of the ball but his presence was still felt and I think that’s a sign of maturity right 11 games into the season how can you still be an impactful football player even when your number’s not necessarily called where your position is and that’s something that Kobe black was learning the other one that he mentioned is Jelani McDonald who we’ve talked about it that might be the interception of the Year compete with j Barons in week one against Colorado State really important play for the Longhorns to flip into points right after but more than that it’s making your snaps count and that’s been the recurring theme for Steve sarkeesian this year don’t count your snaps but make your snaps count and that’s something jalon McDonald has done every single time that he’s been on the field he also talked about how strong a tackler McDonald is last person he said that had shown Improvement was a guy that’s been there only a year but is starting to get a little healthier had had a shoulder and a knee nicked up going into the year and I called him out this morning on on Texas foot.com in the article that’s Germaine lolle uh he said that Germaine lay right now has really stepped up for this team and helped them be a better program uh really adding something had the big fourth down stop that he talked about uh after a turnover uh so Longhorns happy with that one of the the other pieces of this CJ and I want to get your take on this he talk at length about how this team has become a smarter football team collectively uh and he called it what did he call it Masters or special Masters or something like that a 15 or 20 minute uh period of time where the long horns uh meet with each other uh every Friday and talk about different aspects of the game that make you smarter uh it was interesting how he talked about the nuances of the game and that’s what they’re really trying to teach players Beyond getting out there and taking care of yourself uh on strength and conditioning Beyond practicing the plays it’s the nuances of the game that make a great player even better and that’s one of the things that they focused on and maybe one of the reasons why Texas has right now collectively one of its smartest teams in my opinion they’ve had certainly one of the smarter defenses we’ve witnessed absolutely and that that goes into that Friday practice right they’re not necessarily on the field and practice on Fridays but they are out there walking through going through situational football games and you know Saran said we spent a lot of time making sure that they understand why a running back goes down whenever uh they get a first down late in the game to run out of a two-minute clock perhaps or or or why the ball needs to be in the field of play on punts near the goal line you know those situations matter kickoff returns if you’re standing out of bounds you feel the ball you get the ball at the 35 right that technically is the same as a ball going all the way out of bounds they go over that situationally and he says as a season progressed the team will come to him after watching you know games during the weekend and say hey did you see you know what happened in this game with that player messing up the time and messing up the play clock you know they they realize that and sarkeesian says that’s something that he’s very happy that folks are starting to realize a little bit more of and the more that you’re able to kind of put that into uh practice for the Texas team the more that it will show up on Saturdays and to your point Bobby about having a really smart football team that defense is probably the smartest that we’ve seen in quite quite some time yeah it’s the smartest one I’ve seen in 15 20 years since Earl Thomas was on the team that was a smart football they uh you know and will mus champ was a defense coordinator I I will add this uh real quick as it relates to uh all of that the the play that they said that Sark said why do you go down before you score the name of that play when a running back gets the ball it’s called No Moss I thought that was definitely definitely appropriate uh conversation there all right last things last couple things I wanted to mention Anthony Hill named defensive player of the week in the not a lot of surprise there are two sacks couple of tackles for loss 10 tackles overall that young man just keeps making his name in the SEC and around the country one of the best young linebackers in the game absolutely I I actually got to bump into him as I was walking down the elevator and he seemed pretty he was smiling e ear saying uh know he was excited to be named the SEC player of the week defensively I don’t know what more the buck kiss award committee needs to see Bobby from a linebacker but uh hey you know at least the SEC is taking note of one of the best in the conference hey so the number one linebacker on the number one defensive unit in the country what what what else do you want to be now he’s not perfect nobody is in this game uh but pretty pretty darn good and uh congratulations uh to Anthony Hill uh just a repeat also if you’re just now joining us because we had several hundred people join us since we started CJ as he was getting prepared to do this live shot uh Jaden blue was walking by uh carrying a football uh so for those of you concerned about the fumbles uh Texas is H trying to uh do something about that they are definitely aware of that issue uh and Sark is doing it overall uh CJ before we let you go your overall thoughts on this press conference obviously Quinn ERS we say sarcus said that he is a young man that we’re going to see if he can practice this afternoon we expect him to Texas move practice from the morning to the afternoon we’ll see if Quinn’s back any other overarching themes of this press conference you’ve been to all of them now uh for the long horns this season yeah just Sarcan is going to instill that this isn’t a game that needs to be more than what it is right Texas has a lot in store potentially going to Atlanta December 7th and to do that they need to play well and they need to come away with the victory at Kyle Field who hey s came out and said several times not easy place to play I think all Texas fans will admit to that that might be the only thing that they’ll admit to uh in regards to Texas A&M and its football program but uh s said uh I’m sure he’s been made very well aware of Bobby about this the speakers on the sidelines uh at Kyle Field now he said Hey whenever we’re getting ready when When Quinn ears is ready for the snap those have to be turned off so he joked jokingly said uh I will make sure that the officials know about that ahead of time but more more than that making sure that Texas can go back to the games against Alabama and Tuscaloosa against Michigan in in Arbor hostile environments that you can take bits and pieces of and move them to College Station this weekend that’s going to be important for the offensive line the defense and the quarterback itself so uh that’s one thing that he said you know what tough place to play we’ve also played in other tough places to play so just stick to what we know and how we’ve been been coached and I think we’ll be all right Sark also mentioned 10 consecutive Road wins for the long horns I I realized I didn’t finish my thought on one piece I talked about those 10 wins from Steve sarkeesian in backtack years only one of three coaches now at the University of Texas to have done that including DKR and mck brown uh the mentality he said when he came to Texas and and this was about whether or not they wanted to be in the playoffs or go to the SEC Championship he goes when I came to the University of Texas I didn’t say my goal we didn’t say our goal was 10 wins we said the goal was championships uh so that be Conference Championship or national championship it wasn’t a certain amount of wins it was a championship and that’s what you play for he also used an example of back when he was playing at BYU how he threw for three or 400 yards in one conference in one game against Utah uh obviously their big rival and lost the game as a junior but as a senior only threw for 80 yards and one and he was much more happy with the win because that’s what matters that’s the mentality your coach you want from your coach and what you want him to say CJ one last H chance anything else you have to add before we let folks go I know you got to get back in there and talk to some of the players still yeah of course we’ll just be sitting here and and wait until after practice for an update on Quin eers the expectation is he will be out on the field again for practice later on this afternoon Texas of course practicing later in the day for the team to kind of sit back re-energize some of their batteries per sarkeesian uh the status of Quin eers we’ll see after today and I think moving forward Texas will do everything they can to get him on the field on Saturday all right you’ve got uh the winning drive with coach Bob Shipley and rod bers rod host that for us uh he will y’all will be on around three o’clock may have some news then or we may have it tonight on talk and ball uh myself and Jerry Hamilton coming up at 7even o’clock hopefully have Brett Robin on a little bit as well to
