[Music] so this may be this will hopefully be the last time we ever talk about this player in the context of becoming a Detroit Red Wing now the wings have themselves a game later today against the Colorado Avalanche that is going to be a doozy but before we dive into the action of a former superstar infected rivalry between some of the best organizations to have ever existed in the National Hockey League let’s go out there with a bit of an update because yesterday we saw ourselves Jacob trouba finally get traded from the New York Rangers over to the Anaheim Ducks and it was an entire process that we had to work through throughout the morning there were Rumors in the we small hours of the morning that Jacob trouba’s time in New York was officially over that he would get sent out or he would get waved or something would have happened happened and that was a really big conversation to open up like 6 7 a.m. in the morning at PST time and then by the time noon rolled around Jacob trouba already got traded over to Anaheim but there were some extra comments that did make everything look very spicy immediately afterwards like the fact that Jacob trouba went out there and said that the New York Rangers essentially threatened him yeah here’s the quote from trouba based off of what he had said on I believe this was NHL Network trouba said that the New York Rangers told him if he doesn’t accept a trade they will wave him it was a threat he said talks with the Rangers started on Thursday morning it got to a point where I felt comfortable with Anaheim and that was the place I wanted to go I guess you could say I’m thankful that they made that happen and there was the entire press conference video that in which we’re not going to talk too much about today but I will say it was a pretty interesting look into the mind of Jacob trouba I do feel kind of bad for the guy like admittedly kind of bad because I mean he had no trade protection there was a reason the Rangers signed him to it they gave him that contract and just a little bit later they refused to honor it because he became kind of bad okay maybe not kind of bad but like really bad for the dollar amount and it was such a Crux that the Rangers had no choice but to threaten the guy with waivers if he wasn’t going to accept a trade now here’s the thing there also was a comment made by trouba talking about how the Red Wings did have interest in him and this was all the more confirmed by Emily Kaplan on what is this television broadcast NHL X ESPN that’s what it is where she goes out there and spoke about how the Detroit Red Wings did have interest in trouba she said in this video clip that the reason the Red Wings and the trba trade could not get done is because even though Steve Eiserman really wanted this guy Steve Eiserman needed to clear up some extra cap space and after working the phones after moving some ideas around Emily Kaplan says here that there was a player on the Red Wings whose trade protection prevented this player from being traded and as a result the Red Wings couldn’t make the move the Red Wings couldn’t free up the money in order to get Jacob trouba so ultimately the trouba to Detroit thing was blocked by a player on the team who wasn’t willing to be moved out of Detroit and used his no trade protection successfully to hold the Red Wings back from being able to make some sort of a TR bet trade work now I don’t think that’s necessarily a new idea I think it was always kind of spoken about that one of the biggest obstacles that cvy would have in acquiring Jacob trouba whether it was this week or back in July first when the rumors started leaking out was that that salary was going to be a really big deal I mean there aren’t too many guys on the Red Wings that you can trade away that would just automatically open up 8 million bucks but this is where we dive into some of the speculation Side of Everything agile nyr went out there and said this I think Emily Kaplan was talking about why a trade didn’t happen with Detroit today not this summer trouba has already said he blocked the deal back in July and yes leading with they were the team over the summer that needed to clear space and a player wouldn’t change his nmc definitely confirms why that trade to Detroit didn’t happen today very astute I’m going to be honest I can’t tell if that’s sarcasm but it is intriguing to dive into the hypotheticals of this it seems like it might have been a today Thing versus a few months ago thing and so if you go over to the ranger subreddit there’s a really interesting thread Hanky Panky went out there and posted this here are the Detroit Red Wings with some level of no trade clause protection on defense you’ve got got Justin Hall with a 10 team no trade clause Ben sherro who also has a 10 team no trade clause and Jeff Petri with a 15 team no trade clause on forwards you have tereno who has a full no trade clause Patrick Kane with a full no trade clause Andrew cop with a 10 team no trade clause JT Comer with a 10 team de Bret with a 16 team and Lin with a full no trade clause not to mention V huso and net who has a 10 team no trade clause originally I was thinking that the Red Wings might have been willing to trade Justin Hall as dead week coming back but he only has a 10 team list would you really include a president’s trophy team that made it to the Eastern Conference Finals and plays in New York City in your bottom 10 out of 31 teams maybe Jeff Petri who got traded to Detroit in the summer of 2023 and is a native michigander that’s my bet it would be wild if it was part of a big play including one of our centers to get Larin though yeah okay this is on the ranger side subreddit so Hanky Panky is obviously a Rangers Fan no way in hell the Red Wings were going to trade away Dylan Lin to New York for Jacob trouba that is a total pipe dream but I did actually find Intrigue in the ideas that are brought upon here how if the wings had one guy that they were going to move who just didn’t say yes to a trade to New York and that’s ultimately why Steve iserman couldn’t get that trouba trade done it does kind of peak my interest because when you think about what the Rangers actually received for trouba okay they got themselves a third round pick which I mean okay it’s a pick a pick’s a pick what can I say and OV vinan a middle-aged left-handed defenseman I say middle-aged like he’s like 25 he’s definitely not old but he’s certainly not young either maybe like younger is to middle-age defenseman in OV vacan the only guy that I think would fit into that description on Detroit would be maybe uh I don’t know I guess a Justin Hall he is the gu of the bunch here that do have no trade protection on the Red Wings blue line but you know it’s not Jeff Petri or Ben sherat because those guys are a lot older not unless the New York Rangers actually would have been interested in a much older defenseman but then again I mean they got what they got out of Anaheim maybe that’s a little bit too deep into the speculation here if you wanted to talk about forwards I have no reason to believe that tereno or Kane would have waved a trade over to New York considering they literally already got traded there once maybe it was cop maybe it was Comer maybe it was Len these guys are all University of Michigan guys it’s certainly does feel weird to try to pick apart and analyze which pieces of the Red Wings may or may not have rejected a trade to the Rangers as we’ve been saying here the Rangers historically have been a pretty good team the past few years so hearing that they would be on any team’s no trade list is indeed kind of questionable unless of course the guy that we are talking about just very much likes Detroit and would rather stay in Detroit than go anywhere else but then again it’s like okay some of these players unless they had a full no trade clause I have a difficult time believing that if you had a 15 team no trade or a 10 team no trade you would include Detroit as one of those 10 or 15 they’re just too good and too nice of a location to be put in that position I
