a production of hockey KN and asgo only on W [Music] are coming together students are shipping out but One Thing Remains the Same and that is Lakers hockey here on W210 good evening everybody and welcome into the Deborah F Stanley Arena I am your host for this evening Michael shettler joined alongside two of the most eloquent Dappers and all the Dapper yappers excuse me and all the land Kenny Gerard and Paulie batty and gentlemen we are just 30 minutes away from Puck trop Where the Buffalo State Bengals enter the Deb looking to pounce on the ASO State Lakers how we feeling here tonight well I’m feeling good ASO comes off a nice white out weekend they go in to play Buff State which a team that just beat courland and courtand was a team that asgo couldn’t beat so I think we got a really good match up coming tonight Paulie personally I’m feeling great for these two teams they should too they’re both coming off two game win streaks one of them’s going to continue one is not so we’ll see what’s going to happen here tonight in The Dead Boys gentlemen took the words right out of my mouth but we’re going to get started and I’m going to ask you Kenny what stands out to you about this matchup I know you mentioned some things that happened early on in the season that makes this match up a little more spicy obviously kand not being able to defeat the bus State Bengals and we lost to courland so that Dynamic but in terms of the matchup preview how are we feeling here tonight well I think this is a game for first place in the sunak so I mean if you overlook that point you’re not paying attention to the right hockey game you got to be kidding me so I think obviously that’s very important first place in the sunak also asigo had beat them more than 50 times more than they’ve ever won it’s a crazy record and people are coming in thinking buff Eight’s got a good shot and I’m one of those people too but it’s going to be a tough match up for as Wego against a team that they oh regularly pounce on oh my turn now uh I think the narrative is just both of these teams are really young looking at all these lineups 19 obviously new guys for the asigo Lakers I think we’ve said that week after week after week 11 new guys for The Buff State Bangles and they’re trying to get their footing too but they’re off to a good start 3 and one asgo finally got their two wins in the column last week in white out so it’s a testament to those guys who need to take that step up in the Vets who keep them learning week after week and I want to mention one thing heading into this season the schedule was very front-loaded you play teams like Elmyra like Adrien like cland Powerhouse Powerhouse Powerhouse and with 18 new freshman on the team there’s no better way to Jump Right In The Deep End than with those battles do you think that helps or hurts a team playing such dominant teams early on and having new players on your squad that have to match and become cohesive so early on it it depends on the team really because you come in and play Four ranked opponents you go one two and one in those games you beat plur you lose Adrien in Hobart and then you win and shootout against Elmyra but it counts as a tie it could go either way now if you look at as a team and go wow we had these tough teams and we and we beat one we came in played pretty good against some take up morale and run with it but you could also look at it like oh wow we just beat these guys we’re great we’re good and then they go out they get cocky and while they lose so go either way what do you think Paulie I mean I think it definitely helps the team even though these guys are young feed them to the Sharks I mean there’s really no better way to learn within the last two games against platsburg and Potsdam these rookies rather freshman had combined I believe 17 points within assists and goals very formidable foes for asigo within platsburg and potam they did a great job bouncing back going 02 and one now they’re back in the deep end two and2 facing a team who has a winning record should be a good one tonight here and another test for the Freshman without a doubt Paulie and Guys these two teams are no strangers to each other facing off get this 55 time since 1993 but somebody that knows a little better about the matchup history as meline Cummings down on the sideline going to toss it to her mine take it away thanks guys let’s run it back all the way from today to 1993 and talk about the rich history of Sunni aso’s men’s ice hockey versus Buffalo State throughout the past 30 years these two teams have gone heads ahead 65 times with asigo taking home the victory 56 of them and Buff State four currently the asigo Lakers are on a niname win streak against the Buffalo Bengals which poses the question will asigo make it 10 or will Buffalo State take home their fifth ever program win against the ASO State Lakers I’m really looking forward to seeing how this match up goes down from right here right next to the ice where I’ll have more live updates for you throughout the game but for now let’s send it back up top to the perch with Kenny Paulie and shutler boys meline thank you very much a great hit as always and gentlemen earlier this week I had the pleasure of sitting down with head coach John White Law a former algo State Laker and the current assistant coach to discuss the and reflect on last weekend as well as just to preview the match up this weekend let’s go ahead and take a look what’s the energy during practice looked like throughout this week um you know whether it’s the locker room and on the ice after that electric white out weekend two victories one against platsburg one against pot pot Stam um just two big victories um that were much needed to start this season yeah no it’s been uh it’s been a real fun week of practice this whole season’s been fun up to this point um but no just with so many uh young guys every day um there’s definitely high energy we’re a very competitive group with everybody trying to earn their spot but it was good to see the guys get rewarded playing two great games last weekend in front of a great crowd here so what went into getting this team to mes so early on in the season obviously last weekend is the time where I really started to see that cohesiveness on the team fully meshing so what goes on to getting this team to mesh this early in the season I mean for us just the in the recruiting process this past year um you know we knew skill and talent wasn’t going to be the issue we were lucky to get a lot of the guys that we targeted and uh and they came for the right reasons they wanted to be here they wanted to be a part of our our program for the tradition and and the history and and obviously the opportunity to win um so once getting them here obviously uh getting them all to gel quickly and and come together and and buy into to what it means to be a part of the Laker program how does being a player um kind of affect your process heading into coaching and do you see yourself in these guys I know you you’re walking the same Halls you’re on the same campus you were doing the same practices um with this with similar coaching staff so um how how surreal of a moment is it for you to obviously you know be a player and then now be a coach and do you see yourself in some of these guys as they as they lace up and head on the ice absolutely absolutely and that’s I think the coolest part about coming back to coach at your Alma m is is that exactly as you said I I’ve been in the same classrooms I I’ve played in front of the same crowds I’ve been in the locker room I’ve gone through um you know everything they’re going to go through in their four years whether it’s you know the UPS the Downs the injuries and so forth and so um being able to relate to them to understand what they’re going through to share my own experiences I think it’s it’s invaluable you know Buff State goes in and they beat courland a thing that you could not do earlier on in the season so how does that change preparation um how does that change the way you study film um and how does how does this change the way you coach these guys heading into s heading into tomorrow excuse me yeah I mean I gota be honest I don’t know if it changes anything um because in our conference any given night anybody can knock you off so um them going in to to beat courland um I wouldn’t say it’s a surprise it it happens they’re a quality team and I know the track record the history with with our program it’s obviously pretty lopsided but they’re a team that always gives us fits thank you John for your time thank you for this interiew no problem it great interview out of Whitey but for now we Bengals and the ASO State Lakers for those of you just tuning in I’m your host for this evening Michael shler still joined by Kenny Gerard and Paulie batty and fellas before we get into it our very own Chrystal Luca the astute Chrystal Luca had the chance to sit down with one of the Freshman wonders Jesse horek and speak on his early success so far in his Lakers career let’s go ahead and take a look I’m here with Jesse horek of algo State Lakers now Jesse as a newcomer on the team last weekend was your first time experiencing the joy that is white out week weekend what was that experience like for you yeah the atmosphere was unbelievable you know I’ve heard a lot of people talk about it and and it really lived up to expectations and pass it I mean it was unbelievable the fans were great absolutely and with that new experience is there anything you’ve learned from the weekend that you can Implement like into your play yeah um definitely trying to stay focused on the game and not get too busy into the crowd and work with the crowd but um I think continue to do what we’re doing as a team and everything is going in the right Direction absolutely and after that crazy weekend you also won the sunak Rookie of the week which I have to say congratulations for on uh as a rookie on the team how has that adjustment period been for you to come to a new school and to a new team yeah it’s been hard I was in the you know last place I played I was at the same team for the past four years and coming here it was definitely a big change but I think the older guys and the the returners have helped me and made me feel at home here so it’s been great right and now getting to this weekend your team is defending home ICE against what has become a strong opponent in the Buffalo State Bengals who are averaging about 4.3 goals per game what are some of the things you looking to do to help shut down their booming offense um I think just play our systems you know I don’t think there’s anything we have to change or switch up and you know try to get at get at their offense but I mean we’ve been playing good d uh good penalty kill our penalty kill has been really good and continue to put bucks by them abely absolutely thank you for your time thank you Chris horek another freshman who is off to a great start this year but gentlemen now it’s time for the real question we’ve seen this Lakers team on the ice five times so far we got to feel out of out out of some of the rookies how they’re going to perform we got to feel out of how some of the Vets are going to perform with that being said I’m going to start with the rookies who are some rookie studs that you were looking forward to seeing on the ice tonight and you think could be a big difference maker for the Lakers heading into their Collegian career well I’ll just keep it rolling I’m going with horek Jesse horek he’s got one goal three assists he was a sunc rookie of the week and his last two games he’s really broke out white out weekend he really started to thrive he got his first goal against platsburg and it was a huge goal and it was awesome so I mean horek is something to look after for and not only does he just play as a scorer he’s a fundamental player as well he’s been great you watch him on the bench he’s talking to his teammates as well he’s over there making passes shutting down passing Lanes shutting down scoring Lanes I mean he’s been doing it all so I think hor has a great future within this program and for hockey in its own right yeah I’m going to Pivot over to my man Deuces we got number 22 Colin basalo a freshman from Buffalo he’s got no goals yet that might change tonight who knows three assists two of them coming against platsburg in a big win and then one against potam but he’s also got that plus five plus minus rating which if you don’t know what that means it’s when you’re on the ice when your team scores in even even strength or short-handed opportunities and he’s been a vital part of that he’s tied with Burke for the for First on this s weo State Lakers team so whenever they score there’s a good chance that that guy on the ice he’s been a vital part yeah he’s been a vital part of this team he’s lethal with the puck gets it to his guys and what can I say number two two he’s a good guy on the ice great teammate great freshman great picks gentlemen and speaking of Burke that’s my guy I’m going with number 28 Ryan Burke The Freshman out of London Ontario he’s been on a tear two goals already this season two assists the dude has stepped up and showed out when given the opportunity and that’s a very important trait out of a rookie stepping up when they have the opportunity taking those in the Big Time moments nonetheless White white out weekend not not a thing to him he’s scoring he’s flying over the ice I’m going with Ryan Burke but for Kenny I’m going to toss it back to you what vets are still shining here on the ice well I think I got a pretty clear answer and that’s Conor G number seven he’s got one goal which is that huge empty neter against the platsburg state Cardinals where he jumped up on the Boors it was great electric and again he is not one of those players where it’s like yeah he’s going to score every single goal he’s got two assists as well but he’s a dancer with the puck he’s kind of like Patty Kane a little bit he’s a great player he can really get around Mak some nice passes the open Lane that’s why he’s got two assists to one goal he’s not the guy you’re going to go yeah you go score every goal he’s going to go out there and get his teammates those goals as well there we go and I’m going to Pivot right over to the defenseman number four Travis Baker four for four rather let’s go with that four points in the first five games three goals from a defenseman he leads the sgo state Lakers team he had nine points in total all of last year he’s almost halfway there he starting up bringing the score he’s a heavy defenseman while also defending on the other end I mean when your defenseman is your lead lead in scorer so far brings dividends to not only your offense but with the defenseman on the blue line we’ve seen a couple of those in I believe the platsburg game he’s ripping it from the Blue Line a feed that just Soares right into the net a beautiful shot selection by him defenseman number four Travis Baker he’s my guy you know I couldn’t pick just one so I’m going with two but we’ll start off with money man Matt McQuade two goals two assists on the season he is for the first time wearing that c on his jersey he is a new team captain he’s a guy that leads by example and the rest follow under him and other than that for the Vets I know he’s a junior but in terms of locker room presence great leadership I’m going with number 91 the man out of British where is he from British Columbia he is flying around the entire ice he is a guy no goals yet on the season but a guy that steps in week in and week out leads his teammates the definition of a great teammate the definition of a great player and somebody that as well as McQuay leads by example I say I love Brett fudger I’ve been a big fan of him you guys know when I talk about him I love fudge back to fudge baby there we go I love bre AB he’s got me stumbling over my words I love seeing him out on the ice but for now we’re ASO they’re also two and0 coming in a conference but they’re 22 and one overall bat what do you think is a key goal for both teams to win this game I think we’re going to see a very offensive Game Change both these teams have star power on both sides of the puck but when it comes to the the xfactor for both of these teams brought up the fact that they’re undefeated it’s because they have goal changing abilities in both of their players I think we’re going to see a great game tonight absolutely we go to the goalies for uh for the Lakers we got Brandon milberg who a little shaky so far last season he had a 915 safe percentage this season it’s only 909 so we I’m sure he’s like he’d like to see better for him and uh for uh excuse me for the uh Buffalo State it’s uh Marcus cumberworth 31 record he’s had an outstanding season so far they had a little bit of trouble with the goal tending position to start the season off but he prevailed as their main guy so far does average 2.24 goals on average but that’s not too far up from the 2.27 that milberg averages itself similar goal uh similar save percentages as well no shut outs for either of these goalies yet this season but hey that’s because they always play in games where it’s high scoring and I think we’re going to see the same thing tonight James absolutely and we got some star power here tonight for me for my players to watch I got some offensive defenseman for the Lakers it’s Travis Baker he’s a sophomore and already he’s already passed his goal total for last year he’s got three goals one assist four points on the season for the uh for Buffalo State it’s Andre manov he’s an offensive defense with two he’s got two goals assists on the season three points four games I think those are players to watch in this game definitely two great players that you just listed there I’m going to have to go with calabo if I’m choosing a Laker myself in five games he’s only scored one goal and two assists but he leads the team in shots with 21 this guy’s due for a goal James and due for a big game at that in his career he’s had 13 goals with the Lakers I think we could see number 14 tonight now if we go over to the Buffalo side side I’m going to have to go with the rookie or should I say freshman Powell he leads his team in points at six Dan Powell has been phenomenal this season three goals three assists as I said he leads the team in uh points this is a freshman making an impact early on in his career and I’m really excited that we get to sit here and watch his talent tonight absolutely and let’s hear it predictions who do you got like I said we got a great offensive game on our hands James Buffalo five players with two or more goals including five players with three or more assists as well both of these teams are undefeated against sunak competition as well Oz standing out out scoring 15 to 11 against opponents averaging three goals a game I’m going to take buffalo in this one though 4-3 I think it’s going to be a close one but I think the offensive power having three uh Five Guys over three goals on your team is going to Prevail AB well you know what I’m going the opposite to you I got asigo I think they could play good defense they’re a team who doesn’t allow a lot of shots they only allow about two and a half uh excuse me they don’t allow a lot of shots per game and I think they can clamp it down on defense here and I think they will I got AO 3 to one over Buffalo State today I respect your opinion but I think we’re going to be clashing a little B here in this game then James said top of the show it’ll be a hard fought matchup here I think both teams got to play aggressive absolutely James as we mentioned in the beginning of the show Buffalo has five players on their team with three plus assists as well as five players with two plus goals not to mention the fact that they’re leading all the sunc rankings Pat trailing just behind is the asigo Lakers ladies and gentlemen and I think tonight we’ll get to see why they’re a number two and they’re a number one we are underway Buffalo stay controlling the play here to start the game it’s dumped into the Lakers Zone Baker will play it across and the Lakers look to break out chipped along the near boards all the way down no icing called into the corner behind the net the Lakers look to pinch along the boards and the Lakers keep it in Baker long shot wide of the net Simpson there to keep it in down to the corner battling there still in the corner Simpson still battling and Buffalo State looking to take over they will it’s in the corner Simpson still there the defenseman pinching in battle along the boards two on two another Laker joins in and the pass will come back to the point Burke across Baker long shot good save rebound to the corner still there and Buffalo State still looking to clear the Zone here and it’s still not out now it is it’s pushed out and Buffalo State will be able to get a change Lakers looking to get right back in the zone here chipped up the boards all the way down and no icing called Baker looking to play it Buffalo State takes over along the far boards in the Lakers Zone Baker all the way across Burke looking for a pass out he puts it back for Baker Baker all the way out and the Lakers take possession the offensive zone here’s a chance here O’s in control good save by cumberworth rebound was put wide of the net and cumberworth takes a whistle yeah just a little too much on that a little too much sauce on that biscuit James he tried moving it around the goalie but couldn’t fool him on that attempt just ended up losing control of that one giving them a face off in the offensive zone which isn’t necessarily A Bad Thing to start off the game James absolutely and you can’t complain about that first shift in the first line there that was a good shift by the Lakers keeping in the offensive zone they’ll get an offensive zone here it’s won by the Buffalo State Bengals into to the corner along the boards Lakers still looking to play and it’s taken out by the Bengals shipping it along the boards here moving in on the Bengals and a good play by Bala to take it away and Pon looking to break out on the boards near the bench of the Bengals all the way across Cohen looking to pay it to the front and it’ll go wide towards the corner right back in front and the Lakers cannot keep it in and will go for a change just two minutes gone by here and the first period Pon looking all the way across Breakaway chance here moving in passing it across a little unselfish there wouldn’t go maybe korth got a pieces behind the net now in the corner Lakers looking to cycle all the way back up top a long shot here and a good save by cumberworth great two-on one or two on none chance I should say there James cam Simons just not able to put it away couldn’t get enough on the puck there but a great job by Justin Ryan looking for the open man unselfish play there there it’s what we like to see in oo Lakers hockey James that’s why they got three shots on net early to start the first period good start here for the Lakers another offense’s own face off Buffalo State will win it back a long pass out almost dangerous for the Bengals there but they’ll regroup long pass out offside will be whistled down a little jumpy there from Mar Michael Marquez there and looks like the face off will be right at Center maybe they were calling icing and not offside so it will be a center ice face off excuse me and now it’ll be disgusted I think the officials will have a word now think they’re going to pull this over more towards the Bengal side of the ice give a little bit of an advantage towards the Lakers it looks like everybody’s confused here that’s what I thought originally I thought it was a delayed offside and that’s why they blew it sometimes the stripes need to get together sometimes and make sure they know what they’re doing out there James so no harm no foul got to Face Off In the bangal Zone off the draw Lakers looking to control they’ll get it back to the point here fudger boys at the desk favorite player he’ll put it deep fudger battling still getting it across and the Lakers still maintain possession Cooper across D to D looking for a shot he’ll get one off the post a long shot there I don’t think cworth cumberworth saw it and the Lakers Bengals other than the great opport shot opportunities to start the game off James I’ve noticed it’s been a very physical game for both of these sides they’re trying to get the most out of their players and they’re trying to rile things up get emotions in favor you think that can help or kind of discredit their game at the end of the day well you know both teams are a skillful team so I think one shot like you were saying 16 to7 asigo averages about 38.2 shots per game and buffalo 34.5 doesn’t look quite like it for Buffalo but Oso still on Pace to hit that 38 point or 38 shot threshold yeah for sure Paulie and whole lot of nothing so far to put it to put it bluntly not a lot of scoring but lots of opportunities for the Lakers they’ve had a lot of opportunities to take some shots had just haven’t been able to get in the back of net Kenny what can you attest to that I think it’s great goalie play uh defensively they’re shutting down shooting lanes and passing Lanes they’re not getting a lot of clean play it’s been a lot lot of chippiness a lot of you know dump and run and kind of in between and out so not much dumping in the corner dumping in the far in the near it’s just no one’s really getting the puck so I think you’re going attest that to both the defensive play and the goalies as well I can think of two times when the Lakers had golden opportunities it was a two on0 with Justin Ryan and cam Simons pass just couldn’t connect and then later on in the period a three onone opportunity again the puck is just not connecting with the stick they wanted those two it could be two nothing but still we deadlocked at Heroes yeah we had the best seats in the house we’re right back there watching all over by the goal and uh yeah I mean the goalies are holding their own milberg he’s faced seven shots and then cumberworth has faced 16 shots no goals at the end of the first period got to be got to be happy with that if you’re the coach yeah absolutely would you expect nothing but greatness for the Lakers let’s see if they can continue it on into the second period and let’s see if the Bengals can step things up and show whether the number one teed in sunc gr against glamos on the faceof it’s one back by Buffalo and the Bengals will take over it’s dumped into the Lakers Zone milberg will stop behind the net put it right back in front Baker took a big hit as he cleared it up the wall kfo couldn’t get it out Baker will get it right back and he lost it in front and it just went wide a bad turnover there by Baker and now the Lakers are able to clear the Zone absolutely retaliates on a bangle there as he’s going in for a line chain showing his aggression showing why he is one of the best players for the iGo Lakers not only this season but for the the entire uh tenure of his time here and you saw him give a little a few words to the bangle on the ice after he hit him as this Puck is chipped up the boards by peon all the way into the Bengal Zone circling back pass D to D and the Bengals will break out easily pass the red line trying to chip it all the way in and it’ll deflect out of play right into the stands almost hitting a fan in the but yeah speaking back on what we were talking about with uh with Travis Baker great tenure 56 games played with the Lakers and nothing but dominant last season 16 games played a goal with eight so far I mean a freshman to be so dominant on the scene not only playing just simply getting playing time as a freshman but being out there and contributing he’s their only goal up there well you mean you got to see there’s 18 new freshman on the team and I told you guys to watch him for a reason I mean he’s been electric he’s really turned it up last weekend he really picked up in that white out weekend and ever since sunak play has started he’s been a star and again I said it earlier I think he’s going to continue to thrive and he’s shown it so far only point up on the board it’s from horek absolutely Paul as as much credit as you have to give hor you got to give Cohen and Bala some of that as well I mean right place right time for horor but a nice I guess pad save but Bala got that that one to the net horek on the doorstep puts it through ASO up one to nothing 16 shots in the first period they’ve slowed down only five in this period Buffalo with nine overall as we want to go look back at that first period 16 shots in total for iGo Buffalo really has nothing going for him they need to step it up big time in this third period yeah and you Paul you tossed it to me here cuz I was just about to talk this game should not be 1 to zero in my opinion the Lakers are out shooting Buff State 21 to9 they’ve had many opportunities many very close opportunities Kenny so when you when you Miss opportunities there it’s a one Zer game they still have the lead but not as comfortable not clearly not as comfortable as they would like heading into the third no and yeah like we said the Bengals though they’re leaving cumberworth out to dry and to quote Smokey the Bear only you can help your goalie to the Bengals D and they haven’t done it at all so I mean it’s got to be Bengals got to pick up that defense we said it last time there he’s leaving him out there to dry and exactly what we said would happen happen that one get by you only can get so many shots on them and ASO they just got to keep their foot on the gas pedal well po what do you think think I mean I I did you quote Smokey the Bear there letting stuff out to dry only you can present prevent forest fires is what I heard yes yes a a great pull don’t know where that came from but I mean you really are letting him out to dry you’re not getting really any shots on net between the first and second period you get seven in the first two in the second you declined rapidly you got to get more shots on goal you got to tire out milberg who has been an absolute brick wall between the pipes and he hasn’t really been faced with much but what he has been faced with he’s saved so good good on milberg but the Buffalo State Bengals they need to start getting something quick here yeah without a doubt and we we’ll shift from the goalies to the physicality cuz it’s still been just as physical players are frying around like gumd drops on a Candy Land board and I believe that it’s not going to stop anytime soon Kenny it was physical in the first it was physical in the second and I think that that’s been kind of kind of the script heading into this third period here well yeah we saw that chippy action there we got two players into the Sim bin to get some fouron four hockey and I think it’s the name of the game I think that it’s just it’s physical it’s sunc hockey and it’s just inner conference play Early season people are watching this game really matters I mean this can really put first place to last like it it makes a big impact I think later in the season we’re going to look back at this game and go wow this game really did make a difference I think both these teams know that so I think it’s just the the physicality of the moment that they’re in I think for Buff State they need to really buff it up just a little more if we want to look back on the record I believe they’re four and 56 against SLE all time not very good they’re on a bad right they’re on a bad uh losing streak to them nine games in a row they’re letting up almost five goals a game but if we look at the scoreboard only one they’ve been doing a pretty good job but I don’t think it’s because of their physicality I just think it’s because of their defense it doesn’t necessarily have to be physical but they’re getting in the way they’re blocking shots and the asigo offense looks a little sluggish they’ve turned it up they’ve turned it down they need to turn it right back up again and Buff State needs to do that exact same thing again I want to go back to they’re averaging more than 34 shots a game they’re suck at 9 40 minutes through a 60-minute game so they really need to get something started here put your foot on the gas cuz right now it’s been full break yeah and like you said Kenny I think this is a tone Setter it’s a tone Setter kind of matchup Buff State wins they bounce to 4- one asigo drops to two and three that can’t happen you’re when you’re competing for first place and the game and the records are in within one game it is so important that asigo comes here and gets above 500 to end this weekend here yeah absolutely they still have to play fonia tomorrow night which has always been another Thor in the back of the Lakers and I think that again this game is extremely important this team beat courland a team that asgo could not beat and now they come in to play Buff State and we know like two years ago they played him in the playoffs and it was a good game right this is always a team that the Lakers tend to overlook sometimes and those four losses I want to say thoroughly came from the Lakers overlooking this team cuz Buffalo state is always a chippy and tough team to play although the record does not reflect that I mean I’d have to agree with you there both of these teams kind of have the momentum swing they’re on two game win streaks they find each other here in the Devon right now asgo just been out playing them in every single facet whether that’s go tending defense offense but it still is a close game it’s anyone’s game if two shots go Buffalo State’s way they’re right back in it they’re leading so you can’t necessarily think that this one’s over you got 20 minutes left to prove that hey we’re 3- one we can go to four- one us we go it’s been all them today here in the Deb yeah without a doubt Paulie and I want you guys to direct your attention to the scoreboard here bit of a scuffle on the Lakers Side by their net after their their goalie mberg got a little bit of contact after the play there H we go let him know that they were not going to stand for that and the rookie came up clutch Jesse horek he scored his second goal of the season first goal of the game for either team and they’ve just been dominating on all aspects but one thing I do want to look at here that was a difference for the for the buffalo bangal in the second period was they were down almost double in Faceoff wins against the iGo Lakers going into that Period start of the third 21 Faceoff wins to the Bengals 19 to the Lakers so clearly a little more aggression on their side they’re showing that they want to make up for the losses that they’ve been impacting on the ice and they’re clearly doing it in the faceoff Circle let’s see if they can do it right now to start the third period we are underway here in the third period Lakers up one nothing as kyab Buu got a hold of a Bengal stick to start the period the Lakers already on the attack here pass across for G leaving it for Simpson G’s got it back in the corner tried to send it in front pass is deflected G’s got it back putting it to the middle was intercepted there back up top Baker making a move putting it back into the slot and is intercepted and a stretch turnaround pass there by the Bengals that will leave the Zone Simpson cradling it and leaving the Zone G looking for a teammate he’s got Baker Baker across the line putting it back into the Buffalo State Zone where it’s chipped around the boards good pucking getting it deep letting their off offensive players push through during the four check get get down there and get something going from the offensive side hasn’t been working a ton tonight as I said earlier they’re lacking in shots and just about everything else in stats except for those faceoffs but good opportunities will it takes time but the chances will come and they will get rewarded for their good play Burk and Marquez battling over on the near boards here some more pushing and shoving from both of them and the linesman’s had enough now he steps between them Puck finally drops no more and a little whack there from Marquez on Burke and getting taken down there was a bangal burke excuse me that’s Marquez getting into the Zone first and taking the puck Wheeling it down low for a Ryan behind the net trying to backhand it back in front Buffalo State taking over and a big hit there looked like Ergo on the hit and now Buffalo State comes out with it odd man Rush across the line in front they score on the the two onone it was vladim karakov with the pass and David Tolen back door to tie the game at one yeah I said it earlier they were knocking on the door they’ve been doing it all game there we see the man himself David Tolen from the US OFA he scores a great goal on that two-on-one opportunity doesn’t let up another opportunity to get by we’ll see her on the replay a great second effort by McQuade trying to or mberg I should say my apologies trying to stop that puck but it’s just too fast and the pass is just too quick for him to do so and now a penalty call is on it’s being called on oigo I should say it looks like it’ll be a high stick and that will send the Lakers Captain to the box and all of a sudden the momentum switching here for Buffalo State little bit of a momentum switch like you just said you can feel it in the arena everyone’s getting a little quiet starting to scooch up onto the edge of their seats now Buffalo is on the power play where they’ve been very successful this season going scoring two Power Play Goals all year long and we’ll see now if they can capitalize and make it three off the draw Buffalo wins it back looking for a shot here into the glove of milberg Sutton Murray with the shot and the face off will go right back where it came from and a great job by Buffalo so far really putting in that extra effort giving the extra stride in skating and it showed off here so far in this third period milberg will take another whistle here as it was pushed into him by Baker just 8 seconds into the power play we have another face off here in the Lakers defensive Zone let’s see just about 1 minute and 52 seconds left on this power play G can’t win that one either it’s pushed behind the net Simpson looking to get it out of the zone and he can’t it’s kept in by Ethan perau but now it’s chipped out of the zone and Buffalo State will have to regroup on their man Advantage all the way across that’s Joe GL with the puck glamos dumping it in behind milberg Baker will give Chase and Simpson there to help and it hit the referee can’t get out of the Zone Simpson Under Pressure the wall perau back up top all the way across going Clos back deep around the boards perau has it again using the wall here effectively are The Bangles back in front and it just went off the Stick of Sutton Murray perau waiting for an opening he’s got some better chemistry in the locker room some new people playing with new people it looks like it’s been working out for the Lakers for the most part here Ergo looking to keep it in it’s shipped into the neutral ice into the Lakers Zone and another offside is called to the disliking of Tommy chuikov and while these may be unorthodox lines James I find that a line of calabo Grier and gado has been phenomenal tonight they are pushing the puck e LLY down the ice getting great opportunity after great opportunity and then to have your captain Matt McQuade coming in with the second line leading a couple of these unexperienced guys it’s been a great mix they’ve been capitalizing on these opportunities the chose why it’s a close game against the number one team in the Sunni Activision we do see gr back on the ice here with his familiar line mates he’ll be taking the face off here against Lori Lori wins it and it’ll go into the iGo Zone all the way around the boards down low there is gr playing it to his defenseman off the glass all the way down no icing will be called here and Buffalo State will regroup trying to get it out of the Zone deflected off a body grer looking to play it good pass to the middle for Kyo but he couldn’t play it and now back the other way weav a shot and a good save by milberg wavi again in the corner playing it away are the Bengals back all the way up top for Ethan perau perau down low and it’s chipped right back behind the bengle and out of the Zone g into the Zone Lakers looking to chase it goes around the boards and out back into neutral ice it goes back into the oo Zone milberg playing it up and it goes behind the net of milberg again pon and a little bit of a hook there nothing called on Bala he took out a bengle to get a little pick play for payon’s exit of the Zone behind the net it goes Buffalo State controlling all the way to the corner and all the way out of the Zone good pass but it just went past the bengle cutting to the net it would have been a breakaway if it was able to be corow there in the corner to the right of milberg a scrum a two on two battle there Lakers Come Away with the puck cutting back is horek playing it in front for Burke H’s got it back the goal scorer for the Lakers in this game will dump it into the opposite corner with 9:35 to go here in the third period tie game here at the Deb moving it out of the Bengals back into the Zone behind milberg he’ll come out to play it and he leaves it for his defenseman Here Comes Simpson with speed on the right wing Simpson moving in trying to set it in front instead he’ll send it back for Ryan who lost in in his skates comes right back to Simpson Simpson all the way across here’s a shot off the crossbar just past the Blocker of cumberworth and just off the cross bar and the score will remain 1-1 Ethan perau looking up tipped into the Zone there milberg will come out to play it Baker all the way up and into to the Zone the defensive zone of the Bengals all the way sent back milberg had to get down and make a save there and he leaves it and here come the Lakers chipping along the boards there G G back into the Zone Ethan perau perau up the ice palabo sending it back for cooper cooper up here’s semrad semrad along the far ball still battling in the corner odd number of players here for the Lakers three on two for the Bengals and it’s Bengals are able to get a hold of that and then just a couple moments ago we saw that shot go off of the post truly heartbreaking for the Lakers time after time it feels like they’re coming short in this third period James absolutely and there’s a big offensive zone face off here for the Lakers something they’ve struggled in today and they continue to struggle in that department as the Bengals Come Away with the puck Marquez looking to chase but will play it up kicked along but the Lakers come out with the puck it’s an on man rush if they hurry across the line Burke a shot it’s blocked in a different story they’re quite shut down two only allowing two goals in their last 16 power plays I wish they were able to convert as much on offense as they were on defense for the power play offensive zone here for Ryan and the Lakers and it’s one again by the Bengals but cumberworth will just take the whistle and take another defensive Zone face off which his team has been so successful at this game yeah they’ve really been dominating on the face off it’s been the turning point of this game for me at least James 33 faceof wins to 25 now when in the first period asigo nearly had double the wins that means that it has been a triumphant return for the faceoff Circle in the centers on this team in Buffalo Bengals breaking it out two on two across the line bringing it in faceoffs and it’ll be a huge offensive zone Faceoff here for Buffalo State yeah they’ve been lagging at the faceoff Circle as we said a million times in the third period but it is true and it has a extra minutes for this one these guys have been going at it for 60 hard minutes of sticking Puck James and I’m excited to see what they’re going to bring to the next couple well who is your prediction for each side you know what I started the pre-show off by talking about the offensive side of the puck Buffalo brings a tremendous level of talent when it comes to shooting offensively we’ve said it a couple times now five plus players with three plus assists and five plus players with two plus goals just alone on their roster but momentum is the name of the game James and the iGo Lakers have not been considered a liable threat to this Buffalo team despite the fact that they’ve been dominating on the whole offensive side I’m going to switch up my prediction here I’m going to go with the Lakers Bengals I thought he’s had a really good game he’s been all over the ice the kid from Finland and I either way I think one of those guys will get it done yeah absolutely Travis Baker from waterl has just been dominating this season alone we said we mentioned it briefly earlier about how his tenure has had impact on the team overall but it’s truly had impact on this season he’s a sophomore now he’s out of that freshman year he’s got the he’s got the rundown of the team he knows the Playbook he’s familiar with the coaching staff he feels comfortable and I agree with you and I think that he’ll a big in overtime here don’t know if necessarily he’ll get the game-winning goal but I do think he could possibly find the open man someone like Matt McQuade or maybe even a possible Gatt goal to end it here well Lakers will start out with McQuade Baker and g Buffalo will start out with kirov goo glamos excuse me and Ethan perau here we go three on three overtime we are waiting for the scorekeepers ready as the intermission time expires before we are set what a game it’s been and we are not done here three on three overtime underway Face Off is one McQuade will gain possession which is key here in three on three McQuade across the red line looking for space trying to spin back and he lost the puck and here comes the Here Comes Buffalo glamos moving in trying to protect it perau capitalized as they’ve been capitalizing all season on those shots doesn’t matter if they have less shots doesn’t matter if they have less assists because at the end of the day they had more goals James the Lakers follow a 21 and0 in their conference they fought a 22 and two overall meanwhile Buffalo State advances to 41 and0 overall and remain undefeated in their conference and they grab that that one number one spot in the sunc division it’s a Well far heart battle for the asigo Lakers there’s nothing to Shay away from this loss it is heartbreaking you got to go back to the drawing room figure out what the mistakes were definitely try to correct those that you did wrong and improve on that that which you were doing right but nothing shy away from the Lakers here against the number one seed in uh number one seated team in the sunak division they scored 30 shots on net 67 shots in total but at the end of the day that just shows you how good Marcus Crum worth is he really put the team on his back tonight only allowing one goal through those 67 shots and it was a tough goal to defend well it is a heartbreaker here for oigo again their undefeated streak does come to an end as they will have their postgame ritual where they line up at Center Ice salute the crowd and head off in a game that really they felt like they deserve to win in the end I mean you could see it on their faces James this is obviously an upsetting and tough loss for them to deal with they’re going to take some time absolutely to get in the right mindset losses like this don’t go away easy but you know what hopefully that just drives them to play the way that they’ve been playing all year long for the rest of the season cuz if that’s the case then I got a feeling we’ll be in this booth in a couple day Bengals come with a win in overtime where did asgo go wrong here tonight what if you had to pinpoint one specific thing that asgo did wrong that the Buff State Bengals got this done in OT what would your reasoning behind that be what would be the one thing that asigo did wrong tonight oh man uh that’s a good question I’m going to say it comes down to the communication on the ice as well as their ability to make opportunities now the opportunities that we saw tonight for asgo I think were generously given to them by mistakes made by Buffalo as well as just dumb luck and I think that asigo the difference between today and last weekend was the fact that they made no opportunities for themselves I don’t think they really got an open lane or open pass and I think that’s all credit to the defense of the Bengals as well as their goalie and I mean obviously Comber worth played a great game but I think asigo is just off their game when it comes down to their fundamentals so I think fundamentally as asigo slipped coming out such a big win last weekend they come in against a team that they only lost to four times and they did exactly what I had mentioned earlier when you play teams like that and you come in you go all right well we got a good shot here and they just they let the fundamentals go and got too fancy absolutely to what you think I mean I think piggybacking off of Kenny here you watch asgo in the last couple weeks you see that there are opportunities on the doorstep you see that there are passing lanes and shooting lanes that just were not given to them tonight and that’s not I guess on the offense but Buffalo the defense locked in they tightened up so good on them for that but I just want to go back and the first period it was Justin Ryan and cam Simons with a two-on 0 opportunity and then again a three three-on-one opportunity excuse me that they went down squandered they need those types of goals because nothing else will be put on a silver platter other than those you got to capitalize that early it could have been 2 and they could have kind of rode that momentum throughout the game but instead it was 10 for the longest time slipped up in the third period Then an overtime I mean as quick as that it was over so uh early opportunities are squandered and and you got to capitalize on those you know I think that coming off of the crazy wins that they had last weekend I think that they were probably just comfortable they got comfortable they got cocky they let things slip they they again they came off of that crazy win and they I’m sure they just were not expecting to lose this game I could imagine looking at the stats absolutely and Kenny M I asked you what the Bengals or what the Lakers did wrong do you have any guesses at my next question that I’m going to ask you you’re going to ask me what the Bengals did right good intuition there thank you what did the Bengals do tonight to I’ll even say I mean when you only have four wins against them stun the Lakers here didn’t it I mean I could say defensively they played sound and I think I’ve mentioned that a lot they had cumberworth and net but I’m going to say they made great opportunities for themselves they really open up the lanes they really diced up that asigo defense I saw multiple times especially when we’re standing up here and they’re down around in near side I saw multiple times where you saw a lot of players on their back heels for asgo and Buffalo’s just coming straight down and that’s exactly what happen in the overtime IA was on the back of for skates he wasn’t ready and he just took off and it was a one-on no opportunity and I think asigo they really just lit them up offensively pass a puck around now they didn’t win the shot battle we’ve mentioned that multiple times but it doesn’t really matter how many shots you take it m it matters how smart the shots you are that take and I think it took plenty of smart shots and they made great opportunities for themselves and I think that’s what gave Buffalo this game yeah Paulie I want to I want you to talk me through we were sitting backs against the perch we watched peral with a fast break and we knew it might have been over talk me through that moment what went wrong for asgo right then and there specifically I mean it wasn’t even that pretty of a of a fast break I mean I can’t remember what oo player it was but he was right onto him I mean shoulder Tosh shoulder so it seemed like there was something that could be done but then a feed right back to his right side and then wide open milberg left the right side completely wide open I saw that pug go right through I almost saw a Kenny drop to his knees actually and uh I know that it’s a sad sight for a lot of oigo faithful but I mean if you’re Buff State you come into the de today you win your fifth game in history in a long history I think since 1993 1993 where you lost above 50 times I wasn’t even thought of yet I don’t think any of us were I don’t believe so I was negative 10 I believe but um I Buffalo State just got him right where they wanted them and then that one shot like we said earlier Two Shots is all it takes to win this game that’s exactly what they did in the third and then in the in the fourth period yeah and meline you had a great seat right as sideline reporter did I think the name of the game today was physicality talk us a little through that from your perspective here oh my God yeah right from the start um one of the first things that happened was they came crashing against the wall right by us there was there was ice on the walls there were splatters everywhere it was absolutely crazy it was it was electric being down there by the ice even the fans there were a bunch of kids in the audience today that just were having so much fun they were screaming they were cheering alongside the players as they were hitting each other um it was absolutely crazy the energy was through the roof and at the end of the day it was just about who wanted it more and Buff State wanted it more they brought that energy they brought that physicality and they they brought home the win absolutely and gentlemen meline always a pleasure I had a blast today first time back on the perch in a while and one of the very few I have left here as a senior so thank you for the moment for now
