from Toronto and the Air Canada Center it’s the World Cup of Hockey day number five North America against Sweden the steady swedes are now the lockdown Kings of the hockey world they seem content to play every day with a one to nothing lead they challenge you to try and beat them team North America should test the walls of the Swedish Fortress today with speed and skill and Spades but can they be patient practice enough patience not to fall into the Swedish trap John Gibson a 23-year-old from Pittsburgh one of three pittsburghers on the North American team a former Kitchener Ranger played 22 Flawless minutes against the Russians and he gets the start today for North America yesterday’s win over the fins was a perfect return for Henrik lanquist very controlled not over the top busy just right to get him back in his game and he got the shut out referees for this game Kelly Souther and Gord DWI the linesman ER Mel and Steve Miller Craig Simpson what do you think can this North American team test the patience of the sweds I think they can and I think that’s the real important message here early on you’ve got Conor McDavid against Henrik sadine a great matchup of top lines let’s see if the North Americans can really push the pace and try to get a crack in that wall you talked about David Matthews and shley the starting forward line for team North America the sadin and Louis Erikson and already the sweds lined up in the neutral zone but look at the speed of McDavid up the middle he shoots lris makes the save and the young North American serve notice that their speed will be on display here’s a hot shot from Riley Matthew scores wow 30 seconds in Conor McDavid got it started great shot by Morgan Riley big goal for Austin Matthews well here’s the answer in 30 seconds of hockey McDavid through the veteran defense of stman and headman what a play on his knees by Austin Matthews through the scene stick on the ice and no chance for Henrik lanquist you mentioned lanquist against the fins he was under control didn’t have to deal with many rebounds here’s one that Matthews was heads up on and puts it in the wide open net what a start for team North America Austin Matthews with his second goal of the tournament 30 seconds in it was Colton Faro I think not Morgan Riley that took that shot off the right side the rebound went right to Matthews and a terrific start what speed you heard Jordan Everly in the pregame show talking about the speed here it is again Johnny hockey stopped by Henrik list and a penalty shot for Johnny goodro wow half the fans aren’t even in their seats yet or standing up and we’ve seen non-stop AC action Kelly southernland with the call gdo up the middle and that’s two shifts two penalties one of them in the back of the net on the delay and there’s no question Carlson lost body he gets the arm down and Johnny gdo wanted desperately pointed to Center ice so did Kelly suon as he looks right there on the helmet K 56 seconds in and what a lot has happened already here he is Johnny gdr of the Calgary Flames against Henrik lunis with a penalty shot missed the net and a missed opportunity to take a two to nothing lead and I’m sure that Henri lenfest and this Swedish team are a little back on their heels in disbelief just as the fins were when they first came up against North America yeah you see Johnny Gad here coming out with not much speed so that didn’t force lunus who practices that every single day watch how he hardly moved because of no speed he didn’t have to back up and time it at all and he just stood his ground and forced a bad shot well what next Jack eel holds the pucky in Nick jerson this horrifically steady defense of the sweds that is likely to be tested in a big way today they get the puck to Center jerson is back that’s Oliver emman Larson vny trk has moved up the lineup for the Canadians today he’s been playing very well and now he’s out with Jack eel who has the puck back to the Blue Line Shane dsus bear slap pass back hand shot score vitro it’s a minute and 35 seconds into the game two goals and a penalty shot two nothing North America you almost wonder whether Richard Colberg take a time out here and settle his team down it’s it’s Puck battles it’s Puck control there’s two North am Americans battling four sweds they come out with the puck what a deceptive play by Shane gos despair gos despair you got to respect his shot he’s got a booming Slap Shot that he had his head up the entire time tro controls the rebound and puts it right in the back of the net Henrik Lundquist hasn’t had to move that quickly side to side yet in this tournament and already two minutes in he’s had to do it three times it’s the young 19-year-old Captain who got it all started with a terrific first sh the second shift was a penalty sh shot the third shift is another goal and some of the players on either of these teams haven’t even been in the game yet fourth line is on right now for team North America here’s Morgan Riley with his shot that’s wider than [Music] it3 do bear and eel get assists on the goal they made it two nothing at 135 but now we’ll see how the speed react to that they can’t sit back now down two to nothing early [Applause] oh the old trap though jimy you get that early lead and sometimes when you’re the team that’s up you let down your guard a little bit let’s see how of North America handles it Colton pero with a nice shot and a kick save by Henrik list here’s Louie Erikson with the sedes John Gibson makes his first save two and A2 minutes in and it’s an easy one with his blocking Daniel sine to the Blue Line Eric Carl shot that was block shle up the middle Conor McDavid wrapped up could there be another penalty shot no arm goes up that was close McDavid again and there’s a shot by Matthews just wide of the net as McDavid stays in front battling here with Carlson Carlson’s trying to work him over shley comes in for the B Mark shley worked over by Daniel sadine good Ro comes on the ice to the blue line down and up is Ryan Murray he got the shot the is blocked and he kept the puck in for G there’s a penalty coming up against the sweds they get a hold of the puck so two goals a penalty shot could have been another penalty shot and now a penalty against the swedes in a North American power play this is a tremendous start for North America well this is the definition of chasing a game right now for the swedes the swedes as you mentioned known for having such control of the game and setting the pace here it’s Carlson who gets the interference call and I think it’s just the fact that he kept kept him pinned mcdavid’s trying to get away and getting to the front of the net those battles it’s been a chasing game there you go now a couple of whacks and hacks and an oddler opportunity for North America to get their third they’re two for eight in the power play in the tournament Morgan Ry had a terrific game number two he’s out with Colton Paro who has a booming shot Johnny G Morgan Riley had seven shots on goal in the second game for the North Americans a loss to the Russians and he played a without airon neck in the line there’s his first shot of the game went wide of the net could roll just about buried it hero Nathan McKinnon parked in front of the net good roll Riley Paro with a shot list the save and the rebound doubled up and cleared by Jacob silverberg and the North Americans will change up their power play a really important kill here for the sweds just settle themselves down and get right back into this game can’t allow that third goal to come so quickly here’s Austin Matthews what’s up for McDavid on this ship his third of the game on the power play here’s Matthews as a man at the net go bear to Matthews he’ll turn the puck over to Jack eel the right hander takes the shot there’s a rebound right there for Matthews working on it against jerson and the speeds got the puck Carl Haggin sended down the ice the ghost to Austin Matthews at Center shoot in Conor McDavid and this is a offside call Nick Backstrom is there to Philip forsberg hornist at Center interfered with Seth Jones and knocked him down got away with it and here comes forsberg because of it and he takes a shot and [Applause] scores big goal for the sweds on their fifth shot a defenseman down open things up and Philip forsberg getss the goal that makes it a 2-1 game North America well this goal starts at the offensive Blue Line there it’s Jones as you mentioned fall down McKinnon thought he could keep the puck alive a little over Pursuit there by Ryan nen Hopkins and that’s a bad goal that look at the reaction of Gibson he knows that he just missed that one underneath the arm of Gibson pretty close to almost getting it was Ryan Murray with his stick and that one frustrated the goaler what a big momentum swinger that is with a going in the back of the net well he got the power play so they got some attacking Zone time to settle things down a little bit and to slow down this North American team that’s got to just creep into your head a little bit if you’re Gibson it’s your first real chance the Russian game he came in and was six for six with shots but that’s one he’ desperately like to have back here’s she p of scor takes his time there’s a regroup Jonathan Drew on the line with eel and Vinnie tro troe’s been very prominent as this tournament’s gone along keeps getting better and better and he was the last add to the team you can see why the Florida Panthers like him so much he is a good penalty killer he’s a great skater he’s got a goal in the game there’s a long shot and Gibson needed to make that save off Jacob silverberg and now the North Americans need to get the pace up in their game [Applause] again started at 150 mph catch Jacob silverberg and he did he’s a big man 6’6 with a great reach and he can skate silverberg touched the puck Haggin with a shot deflected right on banging away at the puck at the side of the net was Marcus Krueger and it came loose from the goal tender but he couldn’t put it in the net you know what it it didn’t at first but Krueger with his actions forced Gibson to think that he didn’t have it Krueger did a nice job as you watch from The Ref cam perano you mentioned the size I mean he clubs it there but look at how quickly he closes the Gap and gets control of the puck back but then the deflection in front the Puck’s actually between the pads of Gibson but it’s this action here as Krueger almost forced Gibson to think he didn’t have it and it almost worked in bringing the fck out of his pads Fort McMurray oil Baron Colton pero from St Alber he’s really caught the eye of observers in this tournament as so many of his teammates have sadin and Louis Erikson out again Ryan nen Hopkins Carlson with his shot off the draw heard Jordan Everly in the pregame show talking about newon Hopkins and the way he’s playing defensively he has become a very responsible Elder Statesman for this North American team a very good tournament and he’s playing against the sadin Lou Erics to the net Gibson makes the save tied has turned a little bit in this game ever since that first Swedish power play you have to think of the experience of the Swedish team not to panic and just settle down a tip in front Gibson swimming and is going to be a penalty against team North America again they got chasing against the sedine line and there’ll be a tripping call Seth Jones is going to go and the sweds are on a power play trying to tie this up kids caught him by surprise Carl Soderberg takes a shot that hit a skate in front of the nail quick transition Johnny goodro with another Breakaway he scores Beauty a terrific goal by Johnny goodro and it’s 3-1 a two-goal lead restored Jim you contrast his penalty shot where he came in with no speed whatsoever look what speed does to Henrik list in the penalty shot list was able to just stay at the top of his blue head down speed going because he knows emman Larson and he just literally froze Henrik list list guesses to his left that quick movement to gd’s left and an easy goal with that speed and quick movement right at the net well done what an explosive team nothing happening and all of a sudden there’s an opening and Johnny goodro skated right [Applause] through Jim sometimes when you get a break away from your own Blue Line you have way too much time to think but I think the fact that he knew he had pressure coming and he just focused on skating allowed him to just zero in on making the play with speed the net and that was the difference long Shi for the cines on the power play here’s Carlson’s one timer another block for the North American team Henrik with a shot great save by Gibson loose Puck Murray’s down on it and he wouldn’t let Daniel sine get to the loose Puck before Gibson could cover it it’s Murray who gets the block to help his goenda this Puck across he’s looking through traffic he’s already down on one knee and he just slid rides across and tries to get any part of his body up that he could the option was there for a split second but a big block by ran Murray there to not allow that puck to get through to his goal tender Murray already limping a little bit from some undisclosed injury might have added a little insult to injury there he’s really come into his own we don’t see a lot of him because he plays in Columbus he was hurt a lot didn’t play a lot after he was drafted but this young man from White City Saskatchewan just east of Regina is a pretty Dar good player isn’t and the roll becomes bigger with that flad gone as the boys in the studio are talking [Applause] about G Landis and Horn back there as wells in the constant on the power play forsberg shot hit a body a hard shot they score just as the penalty expired Nick Backstrom on a rebound to an open net and it’s a one goal game again a bit of pu clock there for the sweds as the puck came right onto the Stick of Backstrom at just a break net speed and landero keeps the play alive and it’s Puck movement that forces a lot of movement by Gibson and he once again stumbles be interested if Kelly Rudy can analyze that he went down on the one side and boy right off the toe of Morgan Riley but Gibson was no nowhere near he had committed himself to the right side of the net and lost his balance while he was down on one knee and couldn’t get back I wonder if any decision by Todd is confounded by the fact that Matt Murray isn’t the backup today Conor Helu who hasn’t played is Murray had a little bit of a thumb injury I’m assuming that’s why he’s not the backup why I was even surprised that he wasn’t the starter I I thought that Todd mclen was talking like responding to how well Murray handled losses in the playoffs another rebound and Gibson’s down again run over by his own team Mel I think ran into him he’s back up on his knees right now here’s Carl Hagman with a shot and a nice glove save by John Gibson and the swedes are really coming now and Gibson wants a penalty there and he’s just getting the explanation that it was his own man that knocked the sued into him for Gibson tracking this PU down low makes the first save and yeah there you see just gets bowled over it’s Jack eel who knocks silverberg into the go tender and Gibson was slow to get up but was able to find that and at least get a whistle and collect himself I’m sorry about mlen I thought that he was indicating that know Murray bounced back with wins after losing in the playoffs on route to a Stanley Cup and I thought that if he was healthy he would have been the guy in the Nets today team SW go it’s first of the TN SC what an interesting first period and they’re still just about 3 minutes to go in it 3-2 lead for the North Americans they just owned the first 10 minutes of the game and the sweds have owned it since three power plays though there’s a long shot comes off Gibson Johnny gdo gathers the puck in that wasn’t a power play goal by Backstrom it was seconds after Seth Jones stepped on the ice though excuse me GOP that’s the referee Kelly Sullivan talking to AOL and Johnny good roll and EOL carried the puck in over the Blue Line offside win wide Jonathan drewan standing up on him is Anton stman there’s a great pass up the middle Conor McDavid in a l and that went off the bar I think and stayed out I think he had lung of his speat he just couldn’t put the puck in the net forsberg tuba stepped in front of him so what’s that four breakaways in the first period now that it’s a bad change by the sweds there which opened up the lane great pass by Morgan Riley long shot and a deflection right in front cleared away and here’s Austin Matthews so that’s why you don’t want to take Conor McDavid out of the game by taking penalties and McDavid in his Breakaway yesterday went to his forehand and he kind of got trapped that one there was a nice aggressive quick move to his back end just couldn’t get it off the post and [Applause] in here’s Austin Matthews regroups in his own Zone Ryan Murray pass up the middle Matthews couldn’t handle that being come the North Americans Matthews in shely work for the puck but gave it not far away silverberg back the other way Haggin tried to knock the puck out of the air and couldn’t control it and now the North Americans will need a change here as Carlson comes back shley gave M late hit after he delivered the puck and Carlson’s giving shley a [Applause] scolding ran Murray is back down to the board sh last at his line he stayed pretty late forsberg Backstrom with a shot and the period comes to an end but what an entertaining period well here’s the play McDavid coming off the bench a late change a little casual for the sweds forehand backhand off the post and up and just barely could have made it a 4-2 game well the young North Americans have taken the steady sweds out of their comfort zone it’s 32 North America but a long ways to go Ron you notice the starting lineup a little bit different sadine now no against Conor McDavid here after what happened the first shift of the game yeah they’ve been trying as the home team here to get uh Marcus Ker’s line with silverberg and Carl Hagin out against McDavid didn’t get to do it a lot because of all the penalties that the North Americans took in the first period but they’ve got that match up here two of the times that McDavid broke through to the net it was against headman and stman this great defensive pair that’s on the ice there’s Anton stman to the net a bouncing Puck and the North Americans up three to2 get to Center turn the puck over and headman and stalman await the arrival of the sidin who are just coming on Colton Paro back for the puck Morgan Riley on the other side Johnny goodro comes on to Mark shley at Center he had nen Hopkins with him couldn’t get him the puck and the sadin come back the other way Erikson got by good roll to the net Gibson fights it off again and he’s down and John Gibson’s made some good saves but he’s looked pretty uncomfortable when he’s made a lot of them well you you heard Kelly talk about his body language and his movement in thecas and this was just another odd one Johnny Gad loses his check to Erikson and in a bad angle kind of falls down gets a little bump on Daniel sadine and fortunate that that puck didn’t sit there for a split second it got him up in the elbow panko maybe knocked his stick which caused some problems as well but that puck was in play and fortunate for the North American team gos Des spare was there here’s a shot by forsberg that was knocked down in front and then shot just wide by hornist he got his backand on it but backed the other way Johnny goodroe cutting to the net and the fans here think there should have been a penalty Gad probably thinks the same thing too but another break here comes Backstrom the other way throws the puck to the NIT that was knocked down before it got there terrific chances both ends already great action a minute into the second period and another one off the side of the net good R up ahead had that not been tipped by a teammate McKinnon on the way through he might have been away again I think Seth Jones saved the goal here as the shot from the point was lying in front and a dangerous play as it got stopped by horn quit watch the stick off and then right through the five hole and back the other way Gibson not sure where that puck is Johnny Gad thr with another open Ice play that that’s what the crowd was reacting to felt there should have been a penalty but there [Applause] wasn’t why not use that speed with the stretch pass and that area pass and just lay it out there there’s so many players on this team that can race onto it that’s a great strategy yeah and I I just think that the pace of this game you mentioned the swedes getting a little surprised we’ve seen that in the past even in the Stanley Cup Playoffs when you go from round to round at times team can really surprise you you you see it on film but until you see it going flying by you it’s hard to understand just how fast the group [Applause] is hent Hopkins good throw on the ice a long shot wide at the net from Daniel sine it was so far wide he looked at his stick to see if there’s something wrong with it Oliver emman Larsson is back both Americans are changing Daniel tips the puck in at the end of the ship and has to stay in there Henrik eron on the in boards Daniel sine on his backand to the front of the net Oliver egman Larson Henrik is screening and he got a piece of that Daniel with a backhander great save by Gibson as he kicked out that right leg acrobatic as can be and two big saves there and back the other way Jonathan puan has the Pu you used the road hockey analogy that looked like a road hockey goendale you need to make the save go ahead and do it there some acrobatic efforts there and a deflection puts the puck over the glass out of play and no shortage of action again in the first three minutes of this period and those shots you talked about early on just three for Sweden now they’re up to 21 John Gibson tracking this one sadine in front the rebound once again eichel can’t get it two good saves and then back to his post in desperation and Daniel sadine almost got that one up over the shoulder of Gibson there and look at good tracking though as he just went back and made sure he could get whatever he could on that puck five nothing of the shots on goal for team Sweden to start the second period they’ve obviously come out in the second and really taken the North Americans seriously the speed from that first period backs them off the line at all not there strawman with a good job standing up sweds have excellent back checking from their forwards to allow those defenseman to stand up here’s a chance in front and a great save by lung terrific save off Nathan McKinnon that’s his best of the day you heard Elliot talk about the mistakes that were being made by the top defenseman well there’s your top pair strawman and headman losing the puck as well here’s McKinnon again to the open side McDavid has just come on Boston Matthews along the boards for McDavid shle waved to the puck in the air couldn’t get it Matthews barged in and took it away from horn Chris headman comes over double team by McDavid and Austin Matthews and the puck comes to Center shley to Matthews and back in for the North Americans long pass to Center Patrick hornist took it off the boards he’ll throw the puck at the net hoping for a rebound doesn’t get one and John Gibson Smothers the puck well very different first period the enormity of the chances early on in the first the second here a little slower to develop but this is what you got to keep doing if you’re North North America turn Puck over McKinnon left all alone in front and there’s lanquist with maybe his best good track of the puck but he was already down but he had just enough to get that arm stacked above his pad and make the save Newen Hopkins and Johnny gdo help set that up sadin are back on Henrik trying to win the draw but a false start and eel going to get waved out know we worried about faceoffs with this North American team but Jim here again they’re up to 63% in the first period in a little bit haven’t lost the faceoff game in one of their contests set play on a faceof and Daniel came in behind henrian got the puck Paro the vce has to back off but egol backed off with the puck here’s partner Eric Carlson RNG wide to Henrik who tips the puck in that turns the defenseman foro Gibson out to meet the puck stolen by Erikson his centering pass was a wing in a prayer and it comes all the way to Center just hoping that someone was in front of the net in a blue sweater Carlson through center Long Slap Shot up high over top of the net and into the netti to see if anybody’s trying to get behind them North Americans win the draw tuba shot wide of the net D bear pinched in now he’s caught Carl Soder bear look at gdo come back Nathan excuse me landeskog to the front of the net and Gibson’s down and out again hit by Johnny gdo and they’re both slow to get out and soderberg’s going to get the penalty Jim as he’s the one that took him in so you saw in the first period Gibson arguing that there should have been a penalty when he got hit before well that didn’t look very good though the way Gibson went to the bench and the way Gad got up and Gibson still bent over but we’ll have to watch to see how he feels gad’s fine now he’s skating full speed Soder bir’s just going to sit there and try to play Bome maybe they won’t recognize where he’s at but here’s the play yeah he definitely knocked right into Gibson there that was a hard cross check right to the back of Johnny Gau that sent him right into the North American goal tendance through this tournament that’s been a pretty rugged line with Soderberg and landeskog playing together backland was with them and now it’s Patrick berglin it’s a really important power play for team North America there you you know you make a mistake at the offensive zone you draw a penalty there that’s something the sweds won’t like and you got to make them [Music] pay Conor McDavid Austin Matthews lined up in front of the net Jack eel is a right-handed shot on this power play shley is back at the left Point Gus bear at the right and it’s the ghost Shane Gess bear who has the puck and his pass into the middle intercepted by Krueger and shuffled to Center by Jacob silverberg so the North American power play regroups halfway through the second period Jack ion attacks the blue line goes deep against Victor Hedman head up looking for an outlet sends the puck to the point go Spar Waits takes the shot over top of the net bounced to the front of the goal Matthews trying to track it down eel packed out by silverberg gos to Bear McDavid shoots a great save by list they David looking High stick side eel now slides in Matthews takes over Shipley’s in the slot gsus bear at the Blue Line McDavid looks towards the net this time into the middle what a shot and what a save shley stopped by L fist you see the importance of faceoffs especially on a penalty kill and this is one Marcus Krueger almost could make this a five on three if he puts his hand on top of that puck there it’s a penalty you can see the linesman was right on top of he just put his stick down and made sure he didn’t win the battle get it up go side to side and McDavid with one chance to equal to the task was the Blocker of lanquist and then a Nifty little pass in the slot that lanquist squeezed his pads to make sure that didn’t slip through McDavid shot didn’t miss by much this no not much at all good tracking though by lungis you can saw saw how he followed that pass across and got Square another faceof win this time for Nathan mckin Morgan r from Colton Paro walks in into the slot drewan couldn’t get a shot but he got the putt back to Riley McKinnon at the side of the net Johnny G rose over here on the right hand side and he’ll try and get the put to him eventually now they do and the sweds come over to the right side of the Ring Paro Riley starts to move and snaps the shot lung fist the save McKinnon’s on the rebound gets some help here from Jonathan drewan Paro can’t get the shot away and he might get a chance to here on a one- timer there it is and lanquist was ready for it and made the save Lou Erikson was really mindful of that Paro shot out of the point here’s Nathan McKinnon in front on a good play there by EOL to save Johnny G getting a shot and Lou Erikson clears the puck and that’ll do it in the penalty Soderberg coming back on good territorial action for the North American power play but list was pretty good and Jim from most of the shots from the outside on that second part of the power play there they never really got in the lane that they wanted to for shot stamp Point Soderberg trying to kick the puck up couldn’t get control neither could land scog Nick jerson good R came in he stole the puck again the kinon in front he shoots break save rebound that’s stopped to by Henrik list great plays in front of the king but Henrik list is at his best as North America has picked up the Pace again and it’s pressure and attack that’s the combination that’s really given this Leed defense trouble Johson think he’s had thinks he has time the quick release there and what a reaction by lanquist not only to find the shot as he had to move to his left but watch him track the rebound s and most importantly able to hold on and Nathan McKinnon can’t believe that he missed that one he had a nice screen on that shot as well he thought he could fool the goal comut that’s his second point blank chance of this period so now can the North Americans followed up with another big shift here Morgan Riley stops the Swedish attack and Center tro out here with eel but Soderberg has the puck his shot went off the Stick of Morgan Riley and out of play 3126 are the shots now for North America well the pressure you just keep trying to apply it and the the balance for North America Jim has seen so many times where they’ve been able to spread it out and get those long attacks they just got to be wary of getting a little over aggressive and committing too hard and allowing some odd man rushes to this point they haven’t really been giving up much by being so aggressive offensively that’s a nice balance Toronto Maple Le defenseman Morgan Riley from West Vancouver set for a face off eel trying to win it against Henrik sadine Lou Erikson got the puck to Henry fighting off Riley Erikson back around the other side to Daniel City he’s watched by Paro Henrik to Daniel and to the Blue Line Carlson fired a shot off of Henrik sadine and wide and the North Americans get the puck eel will skate it as far as Center trying to lose Lou Erikson dumped it in tro KCK on the Fly push Eric Carlson off balance Henrik sine came back to H shovels the puck to Center Lou ericon Daniels with him Jonathan drewan a great back check took the puck away now he goes offensively here’s Conor McDavid there’s the shot Lis makes the save on Dru as they roll over the lineup again mcdavid’s back in creating chances once again in the second period Jonathan drwan with the latest shot the thir second on Henrik Lun fist sweds get it back e Landis God and Center Soderberg had his stick lifted Jonathan drwan to McKinnon who races onto the puck snap another shot ler another save on McKinnon Duan Hopkins back to the Blue Line Seth Jones from Ryan Murray Seth Jones again with a shot and a rock it up in the air a off the Stick of Patrick berglin Jim that’s 19 shots in this period for team North America and as I mentioned Henrik list he’s fought off that food poisoning he had a shut out against the fins but I think he’s been even better here so far he’s been really active some of those shots are coming at such a quick release Point that he’s had to fight and then get on the rebounds his control of the puck has been exceptional in this period Cor impressive to me is that the North Americans haven’t given up much they haven’t given them many chances around John Gibson in this period sweds get the draw and that should allow them to kill the remaining time in this period maybe one last Rush Colton foro pass for G intercepted in the neutral zone by Landis goog and as the puck is fired back in that’ll do it all of the scoring in the first period and there was a bunch of it and it was wildly entertaining the North Americans were pretty strong in the second period especially the late part of it but no goals in the second still a 3-2 lead for North America here’s Ron right now Sweden trailing desperate need of a point to get to the semi-finals if they lose in regulation they have to wait to tomorrow to see what happens between Russia and Finland Jim and this young North American team a collection of under 24s from 15 different NHL teams start the third period with a man Advantage a power play that is old for three so far in the day they’ve got a minute and 39 seconds with which to work and they’re sent immediately back into their own Zone it’s not icing though the linesman’s got his arm up not realizing realizing it’s a power play it’s a power play they’ll just go back to Center and start over he’s getting informed out right now whoops is right nobody’s understanding what’s going on it’s a power play guys you got to go to Center [Applause] Ice I don’t think I’ve ever seen what are they doing this is very unusual I still can’t believe this there was there a high stick involved there somewhere was it must have been something like that we didn’t see looked like an error apparently not Kelly suland explained it the linesman was explaining it and play is underway again to the power play Conor McDavid rushes the puck to Center tipped in on the wing and then sent right back down the ice and already precious 30 seconds gone in this power play to start the period McD David turns and goes in a hurry Austin Matthews on his left wing wobs the puck in behind the net headman tried to car it he got a lucky bounce over his sck Costas be is there to keep the pucky Jack eel protecting the puck against stman Matthews into H shley there as well headman gets the puck to stman and out and the Puck’s knocked out of the air by a high stick this time and gos despair goes back to play it and the faceof will be in the North American Zone this is one thing that you never want to do is on a power play if you high stick the puck it comes all the way back down so there’s no advantage to even sticking your stick up there if you knock it down and you allow an opponent to get it it’s going to be a bad thing and that just gives Sweden an offensive zone face off to kill off more time but that last call is still baffling Jim I I I cannot figure out how he ended up with an icing there when they’re killing the penalty the Diaz atom with a long shot in from center with just 30 seconds left for his power play now Hopkins McKinnon driving wide good throw goes to the front of the net Morgan Riley has the puck into Johnny goodro who’s had a wonderful game today turns towards the net McKinnon heads for the front of the goal and Riley Bobble the puck at the line and they’ll have to go back to Center Ice 5 Seconds to go in the penalty all of Forman Larson set to come back on in comes goodro his pass is picked off larsson’s out of the Penalty Box and Riley dumps the puck in North Americans change up way too slow of a jump there for North America on that power play they just did not have that intensity on the puck at all really interested to see Craig how they play this third period can they keep on the attack as they were in the second period or will they try to play a Swedish game and button this 3-2 game down and I just don’t think that that’s what they’re suited for I think part of the success that they even in that second period of keeping the puck out of Their Own Zone was because of that solid pressure it forced Sweden to be back on their heels and they kept the puck going forward 2111 with the shots in favor of North America in the first there’s in the second headman with a shot that dropped Brandon sod he trying to skate back into the play Daniel to Henrik C A centering pass that was knocked Away by Seth Jones another shot off the wing Gibson down the puck went up he thinks it was in The netting he’s trying to get the referee’s attention and he doesn’t get that call Henrik sine on the boards Daniel helping out Erikson’s in front Jones turned away pass the puck to Couer and they’re out to Center up the middle a pass for Brandon s JT Miller New York Ranger forward gets the buck in deep s throws the puck up front off one Chris and Lou Erikson sends Eric Carlson away Carlson stops wait shoots missed the net and this time the puck did glance off The netting and the North Americans try and start out Riley ban on that Matthews comes in to help Paro moved to Puck up the boards doesn’t get out Carlson to the net what a save by Gibson beautiful shot and tip Bergin tipped it after Carl spotted him coming to the net and Gibson made one of his best of the day there’s another example just a little nervousness this is under complete control Riley can’t get the puck out a lost Puck battle by Matthews in the corner with hero and what a heads up play as you mentioned but there Gibson read that perfectly knew what Carlson was going to do the shot pass and just squeezed his elbow as Carlson looks Skyward can’t believe that one didn’t sneak its way through so the sadin come on for another shift and start in the attacking Zone the Kennan won the draw Johnny gdo chipped the puck out to Center and Carlson back pedals in his own Zone watch by Ryan n Hopkins who got in and stole the puck centering pass didn’t get to good throw the good recovery by Carlson and look at him go up the ice instead Daniel sine didn’t play it to him he dumped the puck in the corner quickly cleared back up by Seth Jones sets the puck up Carlson chased by G fronted by eel Henri into Lou Erikson his cross ice pass went to the corner Daniel sadine plays it back and all the way to Center and Jack hiel watches the two defenseman Carlson and Eko Philip forsberg Off the Bench to EOL he’ll shoot the puck in and change five minutes into period number number three North America timeing for his second win hoping to advance to the semifinal Jonathan Duan knocks a puck down he’s in on stman he’s got toek with him fires the puck through the crease and it comes harmlessly out the other side tro again he scored in that eventful first period two bit AAS bear and back to setting Jack hiel stick handling in ran into stman forsberg backing up his checked by drean quickly on hman who just threw the puck away all the way down the ace and just missed it and so it’s an iceing call one thing the sweds always have at their back end is the danger of joining the rush offensively Carlson with pois and patience here he almost backs himself into a corner but once the Puck’s turned over look it out quickly Boom turn it back get up the ice and try to create something offensively he bailed out on it there after the dump in but that’s a good reminder to team North America you have to have your head on a swivel to see where he’s at an attacking Zone start shle on his strong side takes the draw McDavid is there so is Matthews up against backstrom’s line again battle Patrick hornist Philip forsberg on the other side but dumps the puck in to chase it Gibson out to play the puck Krueger Let It Go and hornis dumps the puck back in on Gibson and he reels it in and stops play here there’s been a couple of those rebounds hasn’t there Jim where it’s just almost there good thing for Gibson that was bouncing berglin played the puck back EOL fires a shot blocked by tro and it cost him his stick here’s a centering pass sod knocked the puck away couldn’t control it theas EOL Eric Carlson down low to this third line that’s been grinding well through this tournament Carlson shot score a tip in front and the sweds have tied the game [Applause] 33 you could feel it couldn’t you you could sense it coming a little sloppiness early and then get pinned in your own Zone this block by troch breaks his stick at least he checks to see but because he goes to the bench they would have had a chance to get it out that would have been his guy and he could get there with the stick and maybe knock it out instead they’re a little bit delayed they’re a little bit tentative and a perfectly placed deflection the shot was great from the point of Carlson he had his head up and just a perfect deflection past the Blocker of Gibson Patrick Bergland who missed on a deflection earlier on a perfect similar pass by Carlson didn’t miss that one he tipped it in and berglin added to the lineup because backin got hurt plays the puck into the middle here’s Nathan McKinnon drops the puck off good roll dangles holds on feeds the puck in front one chist is down and the puck goes across to Philip forsberg and the sweds get out forsberg turns back against pressure nen Hopkins just barely missed that puck going through you saw the reaction of Henrik lunis dropped his stick just in desperation tried to get across and a little bit off balance through the crease n Hopkins couldn’t get a piece of it there’s that jump we talked about a little more speed backs the d off Cris cross at the line and lanquist there on the doorstep just a little bit late pass McKinnon stick pass lanquist stick and Newen Hopkins couldn’t get his down as he was tripped up by [Music] [Applause] back Conor McDavid line comes on now and McDavid one from the draw and beat his own defenseman he sends gas bear back into his own Zone trouba to Center the David watch there by Victor Hegman jumping up as Gus bear haglin who’s the fastest member of the Swedish team beat him to the punt shley couldn’t control the pass sadin come on here Henri after the Pu tuba gets it for North America mcdavis shely on his right trying to get by Hedman does get by and has the puck the centering pass didn’t quite get to the front of the net Hond for stman flushed out by Matthews haglin checked by McDavid stman to Victor Hond Henri City lays the puck back to Carl Haggler hagler’s been trying to get the bench for a while and now he gets his change stman with some speed to Center dumps the puck in turns the defense Seth Jones Is Back Ryan Murray Jack eel and Matthews throws the puck into the middle knocked down by VIN troch headed for the net thre it in front just out of the reach of Jones eel just got away from a check and he kept the puck and he throws it in front great save by lung fist on Ryan Murray well they started a period tentatively they got tied by the swedes and the young North Americans have picked it up again Ryan Murray Stoned by Henrik list shley just about intercepted a pass he and McDavid have come back on now there’s a chance shley in with a shot his shot was impeded his stick was checked silverberg gets the puck headman and Ariel haglin tries to rush onto it silverberg couldn’t get a shot had his pocket picked by Austin Matthews Morgan Riley jumps up Krueger trying to stay with him all he could do is dump the puck in ain’s checked by sh who stole the puck away try to get away just out of the reach of Conor mcdavis stman put the Pu to the end board Matthews is there so is McDavid emman Larson digs it loose and out he comes for Sweden in a 33 tie long shootting to start another change gos topar mishandled a puck Krueger with a shot that was blocked by McKinnon he’ll try and take off Jack eel takes over rips a shot list the save eel’s right on it he’s got g r there with him up the boards Carl Soderberg cleared the puck gsus bear will be the first man back to get and he sends the puck the other way Jacob tra trying to go rink wide that was blocked by berglin McKinnon on the puck Landis Scot got it in front of him jerson settles things down North America will change Sweden does the same thing and they don’t give up the PT Matias eeko [Applause] jerson watched by Shan coutou e rink wide Lou Erikson tips the bug in tu’s back Daniel sadin right on him tuba doesc gets to Center gave the bug to Brandon sad just on side sad shot deflected away from the net by headman coutur trying to turn back JT Miller there to help to the blue line and trouba fires a shot he was just trying to get that puck in deep the sweds got Daniel sadine back to Center Lou Erikson takes over lost control of the puck Couer got it back and then gave it up to Louis Erikson and again there’ll be a controlled change here for the sweds Jim this scenario for Sweden is just an easy one here they’ll they’ll be happy to just keep the clock running and keep it in the neutral zone get it to overtime if they get to overtime they’re all right they get a point and they’re home they’re into the semi-finals for their penalties has been great right off the draw the Holmes shoots the puck in as the sweds have possession after this icing call silverberg turns Krueger silverberg back to Carl H Seth Jones is chasing him he turns and fires eel patiently played the Pu back Seth Jones with a chance to get it out but he lost control of the Pucket Matthews sent it back to Seth Jones Ryan Murray ahead to Conor McDavid tips the puck through Center at defensive pair still can’t get a change the puck didn’t go deep enough EO at Center and the puck deflected out of play wiing on the play as Hond gets back in the last minute of the third period Victor Hond to Center and his shoot dos just bear is back silverberg right on him Vin tro drops the puck back trouet to Gus bear to Center and in for team North America Jack ier spins off the boards made a nice play wraparound attempt stopped by Lis gsus bear fires and he just missed the net Seth Jones on the other side throws the puck in for Jonathan [Applause] truan eel oh there’s a that’s close to a hook there on troch but he got away with it and the puck comes out to Center gos to Bear dozen seconds to go Jones dumps the puck back in through half flying into for check Matias EOL off the glass down the ice racing back is Jones The Whistle goes for an icing call with a couple of seconds left but this game is destined for sudden death overtime boy some anxious moments there as the puck was in play a chance for Shane gos to spare to try to get one through a crowd and keep the puck Alive by iel to wrap around and then the puck coming to the point look at the bodies in front of lunos he could not see that Puck at all but I think all the bodies that were there were made it very difficult for gos despare to find a way to get it through J so on the puck drop if the period ends the swedes get a point and they’re guaranteed a spot in the semi-final something I think we thought was going to happen anyway North Americans get to three points but they can still be caught and overtaken by the Russians who play the fins tomorrow so I’m really looking forward to see what three on three overtime looks like with these dashing North Americans running around on the ice in a game where they need that extra point so let’s get to it shall we sudden death overtime is coming up with a lot on the line Sweden 3 North America 3 at the World Cup of Hockey on Sports DEET right from the start of the third period they didn’t have that same confidence and Pace that they started it with and it allowed Sweden to get that that time goal three on three we’ll start with Johnny gdo who’s been electrifying much of the day today especially in the early part of the game Nathan McKinnon and Morgan Riley against Daniel and Henrik sadine and Eric Carlson and Johnny gdo has the puck darts towards the net takes the shot lung fist the save Carlson gets a hold of the puck and he’ll settle it down the cines blew the zone and they’re already out of Cate Carlson slowly and methodically Henrik sadine ring quiet to Daniel Chris Crossing with Henrik and Carlson a pass into the feet of Eric Carlson Henrik Daniel Henrik tipped it right on Gibson made a nice save Henri and Daniel criss cross again back to the front of the net Daniel was held up he tried to get his stick loose and cook back the other way goodro McKinnon bust for the net drop pass Morgan Riley shoots beauty of a shot and it ricocheted off the glass I think McKinnon got in the way of that Jim he hit something I wasn’t sure whether he was in front of the net trying to be a screen I think it hit his stick and went up and over lqu had a full head ofam when he leaned into with a shot now here’s Conor McDavid Mark shy shoots another hard shot the went off the glass puck disappeared in the corner nobody could find it shle did threw it in front the David what a save by Henrik lung fist right on the goal line he played so deep and the game was on mcdavid’s Stick there’s your save of the [Applause] game Nick B to the front of the net berglin scored the tying goal now he plays the puck back M bom Patrick ber Oliver Ean Larson around the ice Puck thrown out to Center off the boards racing after it list gambled an E1 coming out to meet McDavid and got to the puck first Go’s bear shley McDavid left the puck behind now shley moves in snaps the shot and it’s deflected out of play by Oliver emman Larson well take a breath everybody it’s great excitement three on three as advertised you would expect to see good Chances with the players on the ice McDavid the drop pass and it was a quick shot that shley was lqu trying to find it you could see he pointed to the front of the net and this is a bang bang play that Henrik Lundquist who plays so deep in his net just put that pad down and slid across and Conor McDavid couldn’t get it up high enough to get it over eel Matthews and Morgan Riley Louie Erikson Krueger and Anon stman the six skaters on the ice 46 shots again for the North Americans today that’s what they had against the Russians in a game that they lost because they let six minutes get away from them here’s a chance for Marcus krger skates himself into trouble and back out left the puck there Lou Erikson dropped it off for strowman and heads to the front of the nck Off the Bench silverberg back to strowman Lou Ericson silverberg camps in front Erikson chased a lap by Austin Matthews who just about took the puck away now he gets some help Eiffel poked it out to S Morgan Riley leading the way drop pass Jack eel makes a move in front that one off a skate and didn’t get to Austin Matthews in back the other way comes Nick Backstrom he’s got silverberg with him on the other side the back a pass and Riley got back to tip that Morgan Riley without a stick and now back they come to Sant Nathan McKinnon in on Eric Carlson one-onone can’t get the shot and the Ottawa Captain takes the Puckaway stretch pass Daniel sadine Waits at the Blue Line Nicholas backr Daniel sine does another little button hook and let the puck on the boards for Eric Carlson change is underway Henrik just comes off the bench to Daniel henr takes over again Eric Carlson backs up to Center Daniel sedine to Henri in on Goa Paar Daniel misfired had an open net looked like he had daylight to shoot at and he couldn’t handle the pass McKinnon back the other way takes the shot one Chris made the save with his shoulder do bear was up there with him there’s a breakaway pass to Center Daniel sadine alone great save by Gibson and back come the North Americans with a minute to go Nathan McKinnon Johnny goodroe great move shoots one Chris fought that off and here they come again at Center Henrik sine was all alone McKinnon’s all alone he shoots he scores [Applause] well wasn’t that about the most entertaining 5 minutes of hockey you’ve seen Nathan McKinnon after Daniel sadine was stoned by John Gibson ends a terrific game and the North Americans have hope of making the semifinal at the World Cup like a heavyweight prize fight where the combatants are going punch for punch is a big save at one end by Gibson back the other so many chances at both sides and it look for a second there as GD missed that all of a sudden the swedes are going to be back the other way instead Gad makes the play and how about that set of hands three quick movements from side to side freezes lanquist misss the Poke check and Up and Under the bar what a set of hand Hands by Nathan McKinnon and the fans are watching it now in amazement in this building baiting him to try to get the Poke check curl and drag backand off the bar and in perfectly placed spectacular goal for Nathan McKinnon there’s the team management and assistant coaches excited that their team won and has a second win in the tournament had Johnny goodro not made that play Henrik sadine if the swedes win the battle gets a breakway right after Daniel had been stoned but the North Americans
