a lot about um yeah they are I I think they are they they seem to be um again he was just taking it over last time we played him and and this year you could tell he’s starting to implement kind of his you know his his philosophies and and what he wants to do and and I think his guys are responding obviously everybody this time of year is trying to figure themselves out and and figure out who they are but um they they’re tough they they guard um not only Zone but in in man and uh they have some guys that you know that that are are more than capable of of having big nights so um they feel to be a more connected group um this this year you anticipate y’all being a strong offensive rebounding as y’all been to this point uh it well you know what I I I did just because it’s something we went into the uh summer really emphasizing and something that we wanted to be better at we’ve always talked about it last season uh we we we we talked about it a lot um but you know again this summer started this summer and we put a big emphasis on it uh and everything we do in every practice talking about it after practices after games putting a big emphasis on it and so um it’s it’s good to see that it’s translating and I think from a Personnel standpoint as well we we have some guys that um may be better offensive rebounders than we had last year so I think that plays A Part as well the SEC coaches conference that you attended was headlined by some really great SEC coaches across different sports just what did you learn and how has that conference just helped you this season you talking about the thing I went to in Atlanta oh yeah it it was good it was really good um you know got to hear a lot of um good information from some some um some special speakers and and so it it just gave me a a whole new perspective on um on the profession on um things that I could do better you know it’s all about grow you know we ask these guys in the summer to get better uh at their craft and and sometimes we kind of take that for granted too so it was a it was a great opportunity to uh for me to grow and develop and also be around other coaches uh in our league and and also you know as you talk about them you start to see even more how special Tennessee is and you know just hearing um you know they the things they have at their school and all that stuff it just kind of it brings to light how special our situation is how you got a good question here with your team but what’s been your early thoughts on how the SEC as a whole has has started off and with the SEC ACC challenge is that just a label that that we look at or or is there a little extra sense of Pride and and maybe trying to you know boast that you all are maybe the best conference in America yeah it is it is a sense of Pride I I I think um you know I I I wouldn’t say that we don’t pay attention to it we do like our league is a monster you know every year I always think man how can it get any better and it it does every year and so um you know when we’re not playing those guys in our league I root for them you know I I want them to do well because you know I know how tough and how brutal our league is and how competitive it is and so um you know it is a good chance for us to as a league uh to see where we kind of Stack up so um you know we take pride in it and and you know especially in non-conference of of representing league coach you had to grow up with some ACC bias grow up there and you play play in there I mean how’s your perspective changed as you’ve worked in this league and and got familiar with yeah you know um growing up in North Carolina uh it was it’s ACC country right you you you grow up and that’s all you see and me not being a a big football guy I didn’t really have a a complete understanding of what SEC um meant you know from that standpoint and so yeah I I grew up as an ACC fan and and I played in the ACC but it’s it’s been um eye openening to watch the development of the SEC through through the years and with me being in this league um you know was going to my fourth season to see the basketball just take off and arguably be the best basketball league in in in the country um you know when you look at uh ranked teams when you look at guys is getting drafted when you look at style of play when you look at the physicality and the competitiveness of every game it’d be hard to argue that SEC hi up there at at the top and so um it’s it’s it’s been um it’s it’s been great being a part of this league and and U and and being in the SEC and and being able to compete um at at a high level in it what you assess what deep St that’s given you all so far what are kind of the next steps for him yeah D Stone really excited you know he he he had had to step away a little bit for some personal issues which uh we totally understand and and and respect and it’s great to have him back in the fold you know his teammates love him um you know on on and off the court I me he’s just a great young man but um you know getting him back in has been good giving us a little more depth inside um and and you know at at his position the ability to shoot the basketball and stretch the floor um and just another scoring option so I’m excited about that want to see him to grow defensively and uh continue to attack the the glass and and just be that versatile U guy that he is where do you feel Felix is at offensively right now um you know Felix I think he’s getting better you know I think he’s getting better and you know I I I think you know if you look at his role at Ohio State and you look at you know him here um you’ve seen growth you know and and we know it’s not going to happen overnight I thought he had an unbelievable summer and I was surprised at um his ability to score it inside you know over the summer and and throughout this season you know because I don’t know if he was like a a primary option for him inside or not but um so he his growth has been promising you know and and so it’s it’s with him he’s one of the hardest workers I’ve been around um you know have to practice every day I mean he’s getting game uh reps at at you know at at his low post game and so um I you know I would say in the Bahamas he probably didn’t play as well as or well not play he probably didn’t scor it as well as uh he probably wanted to or or we wanted him to but we’re not discouraged at all at it like you know he he put in the work we see it every day in practice you know just like Shooters Miss shots you know just because their you know big shots are closer to the rim sometimes you you kind of still lose perspective on how tough it is around the basket right and and so um you know we I’m excited about him we we feel great about him and and his work ethic and we we know he’s he’s going to be fine he be fine play a lot of guys who are bigger than him this week he’s going to have a guy who’s 20 pounds heavier than him what kind of challenges does that present for Felix um I I I think the biggest challenge would be uh on post position right and um him maybe not being able to get him as deep as he would like um off the initial duck in for his initial catch so he’s going to have to work um in in different ways to to to get his catches uh where where he wants him and and so that’s something that you know we’ve been studying on film he’s been studying on film and he’ll be prepared to um to to attack and feel strong as well you know he he may be a little a little more wiry but I mean he’s got some um some wiry strength that um you know and and he’ll be able to create some angles and kind of do what do what he does coach your’s efficiency numbers on both ends you’re off the charts are you how surprised or are you surprised you’re doing that with three transfers that are a big part of the equation um it’s it’s tough to say I’m surprised because I see the hard work that they put in um obviously when you’re adding that many new guys um you worry about how quickly it’ll come together not if it will come together but how quickly it it it it does uh it it has kind of you know it’s come together um nicely per the numbers uh and and so it’s it’s you know it’s good I would credit a lot of that to um zakai kind of holding it together right that point guard who um you know in in his fourth year like he knows the system like the back of his hands and and he knows uh he has a great feel for like when to get guys shots where to get them from um and and then I would say just the the new guys that came in being sponges listening um we spent a lot of time in the film room I think that has helped with it and um you know and then in in in practice you know our practices are competitive on on you know both sides I feel like you know we we’re as deep as we’ve been and so that uh elevates our practice intensity and our practice levels how does your team change defensively when you’re facing a team that doesn’t necessarily seek out the three-point shot um it it it it really doesn’t change it too much right because you know even teams that do hunt to three I think the good ones try to get a piece of the paint first and then they kind of make that uh paint touch and then kick out three and so um you know it really it it really doesn’t change it in that perspective as far as what we do with our help defense what we do with guarding the basketball um you know from a physic ity standpoint you got to be ready to bring your hard hat with these guys because they do have some physical downhill drivers with good size that um you know you you you you just you got to fight man you you you got to fight and you we tell our guys do your work early right do your work early starts with that positioning early whether it’s on your close out or whether it’s on your post defense got time for one more if someone has one could how great is it to see just Chaz have this much success early on um it’s great you know is is is great and you know because when you when when you’re recruiting out of the portal you don’t necessarily know like how it will translate if it will translate um but you know his efficiency numbers spoke for themselves uh when when he was at North Florida and so we felt pretty confident in it and you know what what he uh what he does at a high level I I I feel like regardless of where he is he’ll be able to he’ll be able to do it right and so it’s exciting to see that um but it’s also exciting to see eigor having success it’s exciting to see Felix having success um D Stone right all of those guys that are um that we brought into the fold um and and recruited this season is is great to have them it it um it helps us kind of you know from a evaluation standpoint know what we’re looking for as we move forward and and and what’s um what things kind of translate and and hey that you know what we see in our process of recruiting the portal is is has been effective you know to to to the extent so uh it’s great thanks coach thank you thank you
