don’t play uh don’t play host because it’s it’s a neutral site game but I like the word host my name is Guy Franklin alongside me is subie theater and college hoops subie first off instate rivalry what are you looking to see out of this game yeah it is an instate rivalry I wouldn’t necessarily consider these two Rivals but what I’m looking for in this game let me start with Texas Tech this is really their first big test I would say um Texas A&M is a quality opponent and I’ll get to them in a little bit because I have my reservations about them but we’ll start first with JT toppen he he has come screaming out of the gates for the Red Raiders he’s averaging a double double right now so I really like the way that he started the season I love Grant mastan I don’t know if you know this guy or the audience knows this I love him I do since his days at North Texas I thought he he could have won I don’t know who won Big 12 coach of the year last year but I that was my preseason prediction I picked them I’m going to I keep I had them going to my Elite eight last year they lost first well that team had a had a horseshoe up its ass so uh no no no shame in losing to that NC State team but I love Grant mccastlen I think Tech is off to a great start I don’t know if you saw this Devin Cambridge has something going on um I don’t know there were reports that he’s filing for like a medical hardship but then maybe he tweeted that he’s just physically unable to play right now he’s obviously coming off of a major injury from last year but Tech is off to a really good start the Red Raiders can score like crazy guy I think they’re averaging upwards of 85 points per game uh they’ll turn you over they share the basketball you think about great offenses thus far you think about the gonzagasports of fun and they put points on the board so from a tech perspective I’m I’m excited for JT toppen and this potent offense from an Aggie’s perspective I think they do a great job of creating Second Chance opportunities for themselves um but I don’t know guy keep me honest here man do you get this feeling with the agies I just don’t buy them I I can’t buy them I was about to talk about how I I don’t buy that go ahead tell me Well actually the first thing that I wanted to say is just it’s weird to say Grant mccastlen and the first thing we talk about is offense and playing fast when we know how great his defense has been and I think that the way that they’ve been playing this year just shows his adaptability and Poise as a head coach uh because really I think other than that St Joe’s game which you lose by one point because Justice jbore who’s a like 20% free throw shooter made a free throw you know and uh you miss a a wide openen shot but I I won’t get into that uh you are it’s very plausible for you to be 8-0 right now other than that game uh going towards Texas A&M now I mean it’s this team it just feels strange obviously the loss at UCF I don’t think is anything to be ashamed of I think that the knights are actually a good team this year and you’re still able to beat a solid Ohio State team it’s the Oregon loss that I I really think is the thing that sort of throws me I think that the Ducks are very overrated and you can come tell me they’ve won every game this year and I want to I want to say that winning isn’t I mean Winning is Everything But winning isn’t everything and I mean that by time and time again I’ve just been like oh Oregon should win this game by 40 points and they win it by two and it’s a overtime game we saw that against Portland for them right you’re going to overtime with Portland at home it just I didn’t expect a lot from Oregon coming into this year and I know that this is a Texas Tech Texas A&M preview so I’ll keep this short I had Oregon not making the big 10 tournament coming into the year I thought what do you mean not making the big 10 you mean the NCAA tournament no the Big 10 tournament only 15 of the 18 teams made oh that’s true oh all right wow I was I was not high on the Ducks now I’d be shocked if they miss the NCA tournament just because you have a lucky nonon but I’m getting I’m losing the threat I’m digressing I don’t think that that loss is a no loss is good but I don’t think that that loss says very good things about your program Rucker win doesn’t look as impressive kraton win doesn’t look as impressive Wake Forest win doesn’t look as impressive so you’re only really looking at blowouts against East Texas A&M and Southern and the southern one wasn’t really a blowout it just it’s been a confusing team this year that is propped up by having star power but hasn’t fully delivered and I think that this team has had since that year that they were snubbed from the NCA tournament it’s been okay they’ve been good at the end of the year we’re going to rank them high oh they start terribly barely claw their way back into the tournament and it’s been the same cycle where you start low you build yourself back up you have a disappointing end you start low you build yourself back up and then you have a disappointing end and I think we’re seeing that low start and I think we’re still a little bit early to see them start building themselves back up I mean if you beat Texas Tech you beat Purdue you go on a run where you beat kraton Wake Forest Ruckers Texas Tech Purdue all in a row but I think that’s asking a little bit much of of the agies at this point we know Wade Taylor is great uh you know that’s not something that we have to say you know we we we know that this team has stars has great players but we need to see them back it up so I mean that’s sort of what I’ve been been thinking about Texas A&M I assume you think the same uh so we’re getting to the same answer but I think we’re using different uh ways to get there okay so I actually think beating Oregon is impressive I think Oregon’s good I’m never gonna question well Oregon won the game by 10 what did I say that they oh sorry yes losing to Oregon is not that big of a deal um Oregon’s pretty good but Texas A&M just you did you did hit on one point that I can agree with and that’s their fluctuation throughout the seasons it’s almost like throwing a dart at a dartboard completely blindfolded I don’t know which Texas A&M I’m going to get and for that reason alone as it relates to this particular game I don’t know which A&M I’m I’m gonna get really um they did beat up on a vulnerable kraton team I think that was a kraton team that needed to get the hell home regroup and you obviously obviously saw what they did against Kansas I believe that was also a calcus Kon though I can check the I think call priner did play in that in that game um oh yeah he did yeah 38 minutes but he only put up nine well I mean you gotta give credit to A&M in that respect but and yeah Wade Taylor is great but I just I don’t trust them on a night toight basis and so when they go up against a team like Texas Tech who’s running and gunning and and playing very well uh I’m going to lean Red Raiders here and A&M is going to do a good they have so freak athletes like they’re so athletic they’re going to wall you up and play physical on the defensive side of the ball but I think Texas Tech is rolling right now and I think this is just one of those games that on the roller coaster of Buzz Williams right like Buzz’s entire tenure in College Station has been up and down and they’re off to a pretty nice start this season I think this is going to be one of the The Valleys uh they’ll have a few other Peaks where some people will say h who knows this could be a dangerous team come March but I think we’re going to see a valley in this game and and honestly Guy this is why man they have a 10% down white pick of fence T toes deep in like the 20 to 25 range of the rankings they’re not going to get past 20 I don’t think they may not drop out of the rankings totally 20 to 25 is where those guys live and so I I don’t know they might draw what are they right now what’s 22 they’re 22 they might drop to 25 or unranked if they lose this game and then they’ll pop back in the point all of this is to say I don’t trust A&M on a night tonight basis I think Texas Tech offense is going to be too fast and too much for them uh so I’m going to take the Red Raiders in this game Texas A&M is always my favorite team to to try to choose their bracketing or not choose their choose their March games as a seven to 10 seed because that’s where they are every single year you’ll recall that uh Buzz Williams thought he was auditioning for the Texas job when he was going to play them uh play Rodney Terry who at the time was still an interim uh in a seven seed two seed game and then they lost to Micah Shrewsberry and that amazing Penn State team that might be be my favorite team I’ve ever watched play college basketball they got their ass kicked they got their asses kicked that was such a fun Penn State team um was again not relevant just thought I it was a fun little thing uh I am also very in on this this Texas Tech Red Raiders team we’re going to get in right now to our our uh final score prediction but you can’t pick too shallow margin because this Texas ANM team is strange but I’m going for the fighting Grant mastan’s I think they take this one 75 to 61 I think we got a high scoring Affair um I’m gonna say Texas Tech wins 88 to 80 and I’m just going to here’s if if nothing else this will be my rationale uh Oregon to your to your credit was very close to losing the USC had they lost I would have officially declared mte fake like fugazi nonsense right because you’d have that if it happened hypothetically thing the word fugazi while talking about Oregon basketball is ridiculous it’s not just Oregon Oregon actually bucked this trend but you got the Maui Champs going down to Duke you got kraton who looked terrible beating Kansas Yukon who looked terrible beating Baylor now I know there was no VJ Edgecomb there was no Jeremy Ro the second half right like there was no Ryland Griffin I I understand that but uh let me just go with this mte might be complete nonsense and Texas A&M actually had a pretty good mte so I’m gonna go with tech I love that reasoning for you that’s such a that’s that’s amazing complete gibberish it’s nonsense uh I’m going to pick Texas Tech just because I I think Grant mastan’s great and I think this Texas Tech team is great getting uh uh you know JT toppen obviously is one of the one of the better transfers in the country my Mountain West Freshman of the year last year he was everyone’s Mountain West Freshman of the year last year if he’s stuck at New Mexico he could have challenged Tyson denh Hart for Mountain West Player of the Year this year
