juodo was a free agent for the first time in his career this offseason with a huge aspect of his appeal being his ability to combine insane plate discipline with the career 421 on base percentage with great power as his 2011 home runs tallied before turning 26 is tied for the fifth most ever but back in 2019 when he was just 20 years old this immense power was called into question by Mets announcer Keith Hernandez who then faced a near immediate Force feeding of Instant Karma facing Zack Wheeler to lead off the second he took a fast ball for a strike before flying a ball foul it will be then on the O2 pitch that Hernandez would declare there too big a swing he is not a home run hitter even though he had a nice power year last year this of course was kind of an interesting thing to say considering that sto had hit nearly 30 home runs throughout his first full season’s worth of Major League games from 2018 up through May of that Year with much of this coming at just 19 years old he would even end up finishing that season with 34 home runs and for those of you who might say he was just trying to give him some kind of compliment about his approach being more well-rounded keep in mind that what he said preceding was that his swing was just too big yeah it was more of a critique than anything else but SoDo would end up having the last laugh without even being aware of the situation at hand as after another foul ball he would launch a fast ball outright not just clearing the fence but nearly clearing the second deck onto the Concourse maybe if you followed up Keith’s statements with just a wall scraper or something it wouldn’t have looked so bad but just listen to his own reaction as soon as Soto hit this ball the one two coming and stto cranks it to deep right field forget that wow that is way up in the Coca-Cola Corner oh boy you can definitely tell he knows he put his foot foot in his mouth a bit there now this video isn’t trying to throw shade Keith Hernandez’s way everybody’s a poor take once in a while but I did think it was one of the funnier Instant Karma moments I’ve come across in a second and I thought I’d detail it after all I’m sure Keith would be more than thrilled if Soto would consider coming to the Mets over this off season and I’m pretty sure he no longer believes that swing that produced 41 home runs last year is too big for him to be a home run hitter at the big league level
