the 2024 25 NHL season is underway and while some teams have dominated headlines the Vancouver Canucks are quietly Building A Narrative of their own we are just a quarterway through the season and at the time of this recording the Canucks sit fourth in the Pacific Division with a record of 158 and five this start is obviously not as great as their run last year but quietly the Canucks have been dealing with quite a bit of roster changes from injuries lack of performances and alleged infighting between Star players there have been roadblocks preventing this team from reaching their true potential lately however things have started to improve with the overall trajectory of this team and the Vancouver Canucks seem to be back on track so today let’s talk about the Canucks organization the potential of this team this year and how they are still one of the top teams in the west regardless of their position in the standings the Vancouver Canucks have been a rather interesting story in hockey for the past two years from their unexpected rise last year winning their division and reaching the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to this year being a quiet Contender that not a lot of people are talking about as they slowly rise in their division well today let’s talk about the Vancouver Canucks some of the critiques surrounding this team the rumors and why you should be buying in on this team a little bit more as a Stanley Cup Contender now before we we get into this video about 90% of the people who are watching this channel have not subscribed yet we’re about halfway through the month and I have a sub goal of 20,000 that I know we can reach at the end of this year so if you guys want to continue supporting me and the content that I’m making go ahead and hit that like button Now And subscribe to the channel and without further Ado let’s talk about the Vancouver Canucks so to demonstrate why I think the Canuck should be taken seriously this year let’s dive into the numbers early on the Canuck’s POS session metrics specifically their Cory 4 percentage which measures the ratio of shot attempts while they’re on the ice showed some inconsistencies this hinted at a team struggling to establish a consistent offensive zone presence however a closer look at expected goals reveals a more nuanced story for this team while shot attempts may have fluctuated the quality of those chances the likelihood of them resulting in goals has remained relatively high this suggests a team capable of generating High danger op opportunities even when facing periods of possession struggles as the season has progressed their attempts seem to be translating into more goals so in a sense water has found its level with the Canucks resulting in more winds so for those saying that the Canucks have been inconsistent it’s actually a little bit of a different story here their High danger opportunities they just haven’t been translating into goals but with the Canucks finally finding the back of the net you can see that the numbers are showing us they’ve been a good team all season long but just had some bad Puck loss Advanced analytics have been progressing positively for the Canucks with the team translating more on their High danger opportunities you can definitely see a difference in their style of play offensively one player who received a lot of criticism early on in the year who has leveled out a little bit more now is Elias pson after signing his new contract fans started to get worried that he wasn’t exactly going to be the consistent player he’s been over the past two years especially with him falling off a little bit in last year’s playoffs so let’s talk about Elias Pon and how he has seemingly found his game once again Elias Peterson’s slow start to the year was a major talking point the star Center’s early season struggles were a source of concern while his individual numbers were initially not great Advanced analytics painted a different picture his individual expected goals remained consistently High indicating that even without the goals he was still generating scoring chances at an elite level this suggests that Pon has had some bad luck rather than a decline in skill and thankfully he’s found his scoring touch once again with his recent performances showcasing the world class talent that He is Pon is back to a point per game Pace this year with around eight goals 18 assists for 26 points in 28 games played at the time of this recording his current Point totals reflect his turnaround silencing a lot of the critiques that were made on him and reestablishing his place as one of the team’s core offensive pieces pon performance rounding out and coming back to form has been a huge boost for the Vancouver cans but one of the things that a lot of people haven’t really covered for this team is the fact that Pon wasn’t the only star dealing with some issues on the Canucks in fact there’s a little bit of drama surrounding JT Miller as he took a lead from the team for personal reasons and now a lot of people are talking about the team potentially trading him after one of the more impressive seasons of his career last season so let’s talk about JT Miller why these rumors are surrounding him and why he might not be in a Canuck Jersey soon depending on how you want to take this news the JT Miller situation continues to be a significant talking point his absence from the team has allegedly fueled a locker room friction and has led to some intense trade speculation now I don’t want to say that the two things are correlated when it comes to personal reasons for leaving a team I feel like every player has the right to privacy so we’re going to assume that these are two completely separate events the one thing I’m going to talk about from this is just the alleged riff between him and Elias Pon that has apparently disrupted the team’s overall flow and has provided the organization with an unwanted distraction now I mentioned trade speculations earlier apparently people are saying because of this infighting between Pon and Miller that the Vancouver Canucks are going to have to consider trading one of these two players and because Elias Pon is about 5 years younger and just signed his new contract it’s unlikely that he would be the one that the team would move off from now you don’t want to move off from either of these two pieces because they’re both crucial to your offensive flow and I think the team’s leadership and Quinn Hughes the coaching staff is going to have to find a way to navigate this delicate situation to carefully prevent further fracturing within this squad the impact of Miller’s absence on the team and whatever’s happening between him and peton in the locker room needs to be closely monitored because the Canucks would look very different and would not be able to get a package back that would be significant enough to impact the team now if they were to move off from one of these two players I think when it comes to Miller his offensive impact his leadership despite the reported issues is very undeniable and his departure should it happen would create a significant hole within this lineup so now that we’re done talking about all the roster critiques and the drama surrounding this team let’s talk about some of the positive things surrounding the Vancouver canox and why I believe that this team is going to excel as the season continues to progress so let’s start by talking about the defensive side of the puck specifically with Quinn Hughes who continues to solidify himself as one of the League’s Premier defensemen his offensive contributions are well documented but his improved defensive positioning and Puck retrieval skills are backed up by some impressive Advanced stats his individual defensive metrics show a player who is not only contributing offensively but also excelling in his own Zone limiting High danger chances the injury to his linemate heroni might represent some significant challenges but his ability to bounce back and overcompensate for some of the Canucks losses has been huge for their overall defensive stability next let’s talk about goal tending because that has seen a dramatic shift lately with the return of Thatcher Demco while sheaves hasn’t been playing great this year lanolin provided well above expected performances early in the season Demo’s presence though it’s not really something that you can compare to a couple of guys who aren’t solidified starters he truly impacts this defensive reliability and changes their overall confidence his Advanced stats specifically his save percentage above expected is already pretty impressive and demonstrates how important he is to the overall structure not only of their goal tending system but to their defense as well it just gives you an objective look at the overall effectiveness of this team when he’s in Net versus when he’s not in net the last thing I want to talk about is two players who I feel like deserve a little bit more credit one is Jake de Brusque while he played in Boston there were ups and downs but this year he’s putting on some impressive performances already having 14 goals and nine assists with 23 points in 28 games played Connor Garland also deserves a nod here 28 games played eight goals 17 assists for 25 points and Brock besser also deserves some love as always eight goals 11 assists in 21 games played for 19 points the overall structure of the offense is buzzing and the team just looks great so far with the structure that they’ve built from in the off season improving in nearly every area that you can think of so overall with the Vancouver Canucks this season they’ve had a ton of contrast their analytics tell a story of a team capable of high level play regardless of their record the one thing you have to keep an eye on is some of the issues with their chemistry particularly the Elias Pon and JT Miller situation but I’m pretty confident based on the structure of this organization and the leaders that they have on the roster and within their coaching staff that they’ll be able to work through any of their ongo problems so are they underrated we’ll have to see as the season unfolds but their potential is undeniable and the 20242 season is far from over for the Vancouver Canucks but I want to know what you guys think are you impressed with the Vancouver Canucks as of late and do you think that they can stay away from some of their early bad habits from the start of the season and also what do you think about the whole JT Miller and Elias Pon thing do you think it’s all just rumors and drama or is there some significance to this story let me know what you guys think in the comments as always and where you think the Vancouver Canucks are going to finish in their division make sure you like this video And subscribe to the channel for more content like this I will see you guys in the next episode
