what is Legacy Legacy is defined as the long lasting impact of particular events or actions that took place in the past or of a person’s life in sports we often associate Legacy with some of the greatest athletes to ever partake in the games we love but often when it comes to team sports some of the greatest athletes are still not able to earn their Ultimate Prize and in this case for this story that would be the Stanley Cup for 15 years 15 long years carry price stood as a Titan in the NHL a goenda Excellence between the pipes his story however is more than just incredible saves and individual accolades it’s a tale of immense pressure unwavering dedication and ultimately an unexpected farewell to the game he loved Price’s Talent was undeniable he quickly Rose through the ranks showcasing his unique athleticism Instinct and abil to prevent shots from entering his net it was almost incomprehensible drafted by the Montreal Canadians the Journey of Kerry Price is one of pure Excellence Triumph and sadly unmet expectations so today let’s talk about one of the NHL’s greatest goenda his career the ups and downs and what could have been for the League’s top net minder from his early days in British Columbia to his time with the Tri City Americans in the WHL all the way to his final days with the Montreal Canadians kri Price’s career was filled with a ton of excitement but also some heartbreak so today let’s look back on the career of carry price talk about his legacy his individual Awards and some of the team awards that are left off of his shelf and how he became one of the top goenda decade now before you continue watching this video about 90% of the people who are watching this channel have not subscribed yet I have a sub goal of about 20,000 that I would love to reach by the end of the year and I’m very confident that we can do that so if you guys want more hockey content like this and want to continue supporting me go ahead and hit that like button Now And subscribe to the channel for more stuff like this and without further Ado let’s talk about the career of krie price so one thing you will hear a lot about in this video is the word expectations this word in my eyes was always one of the biggest hurdles for Kerry Price to clear price was drafted by the Montreal Canadians back in 2005 this was the draft following the lockout year that wiped out the entire 20042 2005 season for the NHL and the Habs had been awarded the fifth overall pick in a draft lottery literally any team could have won the grand prize that year was Sydney Crosby and although Pittsburgh was the one who would end up with that pick the Habs got a pretty sweet consolation prize with the fifth overall selection being such a high draft pick in arguably one of the biggest hockey markets in the world comes with its perks but it also has a lot of challenges Montreal is a city with a hockey Heritage as rich and as demanding as any other place to play the game the pressure cooker atmosphere of playing for the Canadians is unlike anything in the world for a young goenda price it seemed like he used this as a catalyst for his legendary career his NHL Deb was just the beginning price quickly established himself as a top tier goenda save percentages and showcasing a style that was both technically brilliant and Visually captivating because of his excellent play the accolades were soon to follow after he started his career he won the vzna trophy as the League’s best goenda Jennings trophy for fewest goals allowed Olympic gold medal with Canada and most importantly a heart trophy as the League’s MVP something that very few goalies have ever managed to even be mentioned in let alone accomplish he was a perennial Allstar a Cornerstone of the Canadians franchise and a player who single-handedly carried his team on numerous occasions price and the Canadians had different versions of the team throughout his entire career at some points it felt like they were a legitimate Contender getting all the way to the Conference Finals while at other times they would either miss out on the playoffs or get bounced in the first round that is until 20 2021 when Kerry Price decided to carry the organization on his back leading them to their first Stanley Cup finals in almost 30 years 2021 a season etched into the halls of Canadian history throughout his entire career price was a well above average goalie in the playoffs averaging a 919 save percentage and a 2.39 goals against average but 20121 that year was different in his final playoff run with the Montreal Canadians against All Odds a seemingly average team was propelled by his otherworldly goal tending he helped them storm through the playoffs was a wall a nearly impenetrable Fortress and defied all logic and expectation at every turn the Canadians battled through each series that they played in taking over as the best Canadian hockey team in the league that year despite all of their deficiencies that run to the Stanley Cup Final though ultimately ending in defeat showcased prices greatness on the biggest stage of his career he carried the team on his back showing the world the true meaning of perseverance and Leadership through that playoff run he averaged a 924 save percentage a 2.28 goals against average in 22 games but unfortunately just fell short not a soul blamed Kerry price for that finals loss the Tampa Bay Lightning were the PowerHouse of the league and let’s face it Montreal was simply overachieving but something that’s interesting about the Canadians and carrye Price’s 15-year tenure is that the team only had one year with an 80 plus Point scorer and that was back in 2008 with Alexi kovalev despite his heroics and being the backbone for the team for so long they never were able to surround him with the right talent to win and unfortunately that cost him any chance of winning a Stanley Cup but what happened to kry price and why isn’t he still playing hockey today I think he’s only about 37 years old right now so what’s really going on with this player well the end of his career is actually one that’s filled with a lot of heartbreak and some unfortunate news so let’s talk about the end of his career and why Carri price decided to walk away from not only the Montreal Canadians but likely his final playing days behind the mask Carri price fac significant challenges injuries took their toll forcing him to miss significant time throughout his career the weight of expectations in Montreal while source of motivation at times was also a constant pressure in 2021 he bravely opened up about his struggles with mental health a decision that seemed to resonate deeply with the fans showcasing his vulnerability and overall courage during the offseason in 2021 price had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee but during that surgery something popped up that was unexpected the surgeon noticed that there was no cartilage above the femur when this occurs the individual’s bones begin to rub against one another with certain movements this usually causes friction and pain during high in intense activity such as playing goalie eventually as the season was about to start Kerrie price was announced to enter the nhlpa assistance program and without getting too deep into personal matters some of the stuff that he mentioned in later interviews include things like injuries social anxiety alcohol abuse and the expectations and pressures that come with playing professional hockey Price’s personal issues along with his injuries was enough for him to decide to take a break from hockey while not officially announcing his retire he still is on the Montreal Canadians books at a $10.5 million capit until 2025 2026 now some people are still thinking that he will return someday I think it’s very unlikely based on what we know about his injury and the fact that he’s been out of the league for about three years now I just don’t think that he’ll ever be able to make a full recovery physically to get back to his prime days his legacy to me though is still tremendous what he did for goenda you can’t even put into words but where is Carrie Price today and what’s going on with this player well let’s see if we can figure that out today krie price remains a respected figure in the hockey world he’s talked about his story in a few interviews hoping to reach some other people going through similar struggles his story is one of resilience talent and the profound impact of a player who redefined the meaning of Excellence even if he never managed to win a Stanley Cup his Legacy isn’t defined by that one thing but by the countless Memories the the inspiring performances and just the impact he had on the game of hockey and golender in general kry Price’s Journey reminds us that greatness comes in many forms and that sometimes the most important victories are the ones we fight within ourselves as a kid there was no one I looked up to more than Kerry Price when I first put on the pads so to me he’s a Hall of Fame goalie and will forever be a legendary Montreal Canadian but what was your favorite moment from Carrie Price’s career there was a lot of stuff I didn’t talk about in this video so let’s have a discussion about that in the comments as well as any other throwback video you guys would like a little bit of a story on in future Renditions of this series thank you guys as always for watching these videos make sure you like this one and subscribe to the channel for
