the Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Guardians have had trade discussions let’s talk about it so it is almost Christmas and the Seattle Mariners have not made a singular impact move but there was some rumors yesterday posted by John morosi saying sources Jos Naylor has been mentioned in trade talks between the Guardians and Mariners he’s one of the multiple names under consideration by the Mariners for an offensive upgrade at first base so yes of course everyone sees this and says this is the yapper talking but Adam Jude also did basically confirm this in a tweet that he posted yesterday as well well saying Mariners Rumor Mill M have checked in on numerous trade possibilities at first base and third base Cleveland first base Josh Naylor is among these but a deal is highly unlikely per Source after the Guardians offloaded Andre jimenez’s contract last week so even though Adam Jude said that this is getting highly unlikely due to the fact that the Guardians did end up dumping a bunch of money with in the trade with the Toronto Blue Jays this is still very much a possibility with the opportunity for Kyle manzardo on the Guardians to get more reps at first base so in this video we’re going to go over some of Josh Naylor stats and how he would really upgrade the Seattle lineup as well as just some more details from MLB trade rumors and maybe what the managers have to give up to even get Josh Nayer in the first place so I feel like one of the most important questions about a player when they come over to the Seattle Mariners is will their power translate to T-Mobile Park and as we know Josh haer is very much a power hitter with a career high at 31 home runs last season and similar to question Walker the very simple answer is yes his power would translate perfectly fine over to T-Mobile Park as you can tell by his home runs versus what he would have had if he hit all his balls in T-Mobile Park he would have pretty much had the same amount of home runs every single year with actually a slight increase from 86 total home runs to 89 if you played in T-Mobile all the time so there’s absolutely no doubt that Josh Naylor has the power to be a solid power hitter just like he has been most of his career if he were to come over to T-Mobile park now Josh Naylor has had three legit seasons in a row now where he posted a 118 a 127 and another 118 WRC plus over his past three seasons as well as a 1.8 2.7 and 2.3 F war with also a career-high in rbi’s last season with 108 but the one thing that sticks out to me most about Josh Naylor and one thing that would really help this Mariners lineup is also the that obviously as we know he brings a lot of power to the table but he also does not have a very high strikeout rate he only has a career 16.6% K rate which is well below the league average which I believe last year was 22.8 so he definitely offers a lot of power with very minimal strikeouts which is awesome to see and would be great for the Seattle Mariners lineup now the one biggest question mark to me in Josh Naylor’s career is his batting average differences because as we know as you can see he has a 256 a 308 and then a 243 over the past three seasons in terms of batting average and a career 262 average so it seems like last year he tried to sacrific his batting average for his power cuz he had 14 home runs more than he did the year before but also his batting average dropped off by 65 points which again is not a problem if he’s going to hit 243 at least he’s going to have 108 RBI and 31 home runs in this lineup some people are worried about his F War but I’m not really focused on his War as a first baseman if he’s putting up those numbers on the offensive side to me it doesn’t really matter but MLB trade rumors also wrote an article about this in the Mariners and Guardians discussions and kind of how it could possibly work as well as it why reasons why it might not work Josh Naylor is only 27 years old and if the Seattle MERS were to make a trade for him they would only have one year of Club control on him before he would have to have an extension and to me that is something that is going to play a big factor if the Seattle MERS were to do this because I think if they are going to bring Josh Naylor in through a trade obviously as I said you’re only going to happen for one year and I think it’s important that they have the idea or at least have the discussions early on that they want to possibly extend him otherwise again it’s only a one-year rental so to me I don’t see really what the value in that is I’d rather sign a guy like Christian Walker to a three-year deal to at least guarantee you know you’re having a first baseman for longer than just a year but it was also reported earlier this offseason the Guardians were willing to listen on trade offers to Josh Naylor as well as Lane Thomas now I have seen a little bit of differentiation in terms of how much Naylor is going to make in 2025 I have seen people estimate 12 million I’ve heard also a lot of people talk about 14 a. half million but either way the Mariners could technically cover that you know if their budget is still $16 million you’re talking about a much different ball game because that is pretty much the entire budget if they do not end up trading Luis Castillo also Jason Lloyd from the athletic also wrote about how Josh Naylor trade seems kind of unlikely just due to the fact that the Guardians have not really been impressed by anyone’s offers from any other team he had also discussed that they aren’t just going to get rid of Josh Naylor just to cut salary they want to get rid of him to get some solid pieces in return as you know the Guardians are also a small Market team so I’m not 100% of what their return would want to be whether that’s a few prospects or maybe an MLB Ready Player and some prospects I’m not sure exactly what that would look like but as I said previous or in the beginning of this video that they are looking to make room for Kyle manzardo at first base and then this would allow them to go out and maybe get some smaller scale free agents as like I said they do not have a massive payroll so they’re going to have a little bit of room to maybe go out and get some smaller free agents now going back to the discussion that has been very popular in Mar’s world is the additions of Justin Turner or Carlos Santana the more I hear news about the Seattle MERS trying to Target first baseman like Christian Walker or now Josh Naylor as we found out yesterday it is still very intriguing to me that they have talked about this whole offseason the importance of bringing someone like Justin Turner or Carlos Santana back just for mainly their locker room presence but they keep going after other first base free agents or even trying to look through other first basement through a trade so if they were to really go out and get just a First everyday first baseman like Josh Naylor I don’t really see Carlos Sana being really much of an option anymore but also that I do believe Justin Turner could be a very possible option as a DH consistently because he still is a very great bat to ball hitter and I still think this would be a huge upgrade for the lineup at DH and as we know Justin Turner’s defense doesn’t really stand out like Carlos Santana does so obviously if you want Carlos intended to be a mariner he’s going to be an everyday first baseman just for his defense alone so I guess in my mind the biggest way to do this would just be getting an everyday first baseman and then bringing back Justin Turner to play more of the leadership SL DH Ro and as we know he is on the older side so he’s probably not going to be able to play you know 50 games like he did in his past this is very interesting I feel like we are seeing a lot of Mariners rumors coming out about who they may be interested in but I’m a little getting a little bit concerned on what they’re able to do with some of these targets that they are targeting if they’ll be able to even acquire them because as it gets later into the offseason like I said in my last video we are sub 100 days from MLB opening day and usually at some point they have made some kind of deal that makes an impact to this lineup but unfortunately we still have yet to get that so while we continue to be nervous and play the long game let me know what you guys think if Josh Naylor were to become a Seattle Mariner I think it would be a great pickup offensively for the Mariners but otherwise I hope you guys did enjoy the video and I’ll see you guys in the next one peace out
