hey ask your fans Evan Bland here with Tom chatel with the Omaha World heral at Tom chael’s Press Box the last one of the regular season if you can tell behind us there’s some construction going on here uh in the Hawks Center Nebraska football’s still under construction for Game 12 here getting ready to go to Iowa and Tom I I kind of thought the theme today was like as fun as cathartic as as much of a breakthrough of Saturday was there was very little time for them to sort of enjoy that now it was back here on on Monday they’re treating it like a Tuesday for a condensed week for Iowa is this kind of what this program needs it’s like okay there was a big breakthrough moment but things aren’t done yet they have the heroes trophy to try to win on Friday what does this gamee mean that’s a great question this week um are people I mean is it okay they had a celebration they made the bow accomplished their goal for this year um is it is it time to Exhale and and kind of take take a deep breath or is it intense for Iowa um I don’t know I mean we’re not we’re not allowed to go into practice but uh I’ve been guessing it’s it’s still intense this game means a lot but uh uh if you asked an Nebraska fan i’ be that’d be a good question yeah and and and they’ve been sick Nebraska said uh you know last week they were fighting through a flu strep throat guys are kind of working through back through that I thought one of the other themes Tom today was personnel and we’ve seen that in the last couple weeks with Dana hogerson in there it seems like he’s kind of found some guys that he likes uh maybe a little differently than what the previous coaching staff or or previous offensive coaches had had uh tight end would be one of those obvious spots we’ve seen Nate borer Luke lyen Meer get a little bit more action not as much from Thomas fedon what did you make of of kind of this late season shift to more of a committee approach yeah it’s uh J just Dan hogerson figuring out what he’s got and um he’s going to play the guys he likes and that’s it’s it’s it’s uh you know kind of refreshing in a way um but yeah you I’ve got a lot of people ask me where’s fedoni where’s fedoni well uh good question but he’s he’s going to play the guys he that he thinks are going to help him right now so um but that that’s that’s why Emma Johnson’s doing some about running back he’s and people why where was he all year well D hogerson wasn’t here all year so uh you know it’s um offense has been tweaked um they’re they’re trying to get more guys in space they’re trying to get more people running you know catching and running and things and um well Emma Johnson boy he sure finds a way to get in space if he’s he might be in the you know uh going through the line but he’s he’s creating space as he goes through the line so um yeah that’s that’s it’s all part of the the hogerson U I guess the hogerson effect and the other uh major news that came out of the press conference today Malachi Coleman heading into the transfer portal he informed Nebraska and then put out something on social media announcing as such Lincoln e kid he was a former four star highly recruited had a role in the offense last year as sort of a big play threat just appeared in the one game this year as Nebraska kind of replenished its its receiver group through the portal and and Matt rule said Tom that this is maybe the first of anywhere from 30 to 50 guys that are going to go in the portal as they try to trim that roster down from 150 to about 105 how how much stock do you put in kind of these individual portal moves now with so much action coming along yeah we had heard about coma last week and then that was always assumed that was going to happen uh you know it’s a good question why you know what went wrong there obviously uh had a had a injury you going into the season and um uh was going to red shirt maybe didn’t want a red shirt um have to wonder if if hogerson had been here back in September would things be different uh as you remember last year to me the highlight of the offense last year was harbur to Coleman that the sort of deep post route ended up in the end zone for a touchdown just just a great play um yeah I don’t I don’t know I don’t know uh cuz we don’t obviously get to watch practice or or or get to talk to to the receivers coaches but um anyway who knows um and um but yeah the transfer thing I think they’ve got to go out and get more transfers to come in so does that mean more guys have to leave I don’t know it would yeah um I they they got UPG the the the talent on this team but it’s it’s not there yet um and if they’re going to take another step next year they they’ve they’ve they’ve got to get better players hey one more for you Nebraska’s at six wins really what’s at play here is potential bold jockey maybe maybe as as high as the r quest in Tampa uh possibly a return to the Music City where where’s the the preferred destination for you Tom yeah I love this this part of the deal I I always used to be uh into the the the the whole bull picture when back when the Bulls were bigger now they’re the playoffs or now we’re trying to figure all that stuff out I still love the Bulls um always will uh I think if they I think Iowa if they the winner of this game is is going to go to Tampa from what I understand so um well not the Outback they’re no more Outback stakes in the Press Box so they’ll be handing out Ro Quest whatever that is um I like I like the the the Music City obviously Nashville but also it’s it’s gives us an SEC uh opponent which is always a great matchup LSU U Old Miss uh the um Oklahoma the kin Factor Oklahoma missou Nebraska I like that A&M maybe um all kind of action um but yeah um a lot of the people are picking New York or or Charlotte for Nebraska but um Nashville I’d be okay with that well we’ll see how it plays out Nebraska Iowa from Iowa City Friday night and then it’s off into the bowl season transfer portal season signing day early December now for the first time Lots going on we’ll be covering it we’ll be talking about it for Tom I’m Evan with the Omaha World Herald this is the Tom
