it is a busy Friday morning folks I was just getting ready to make a video about the Canucks and satcher Demco coming back and the very smart caption anigan that Patrick Alvine has been pulling off but wow I got interrupted the moment I was going to press that big red button the record button for that Demco video The Haves made a trade this was from 2 minutes ago 488 views that’s going to jack up a lot over the next few minutes let’s reload the page yeah now it’s at 2751 views the Munch Canadians have acquired defenseman Noel henm from the Oilers in exchange for forward yakob perau and if we go over to the press release let’s go out there and read this translated from French into English of course let’s accept the cookies here on this website because I’m kind of hungry right now Canadians acquire Noel henm from the Edmonton Oilers the 25-year-old left-handed defenseman is acquired in return for forward yakob perau now let’s scroll out there and read this MRA Canadians GM Kent Hughes announced Friday that he has acquired Noel hofen Meer in exchange for perau hofen Meer 25 has seven points in 11 games of the ahl’s Bakersfield Condors this season in five AHL Seasons the 61 191 left-handed Defender has scored 21 goals and added 51 assists in 149 games with both the Marley’s and the Condors the Toronto Ontario native was drafted in the fourth round 108th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2017 that’s it that’s all it says here so we have to go over to Elite prospects to fill in the gaps and understand what’s going on with this player why was he a Target why was he traded Noel hofen Meer 25 years old from North York Ontario Canada 6125 left-handed guy signed on till the end of this season making 775,000 bucks he has not played in the AHL or excuse me the AHL in the NHL before but he has had some fairly productive seasons in the Toronto Marley system he had 38 points in 65 games played two seasons ago last year his point production declined in Bakersfield this season it is kind of back up there with a 41o pace in 65 games he also was a point per game in the New Finland grounders grounders Growlers excuse me I got the ND of new found land kind of mixed up there The newfinland Growlers that’s what it is he was under a point per game there in the ECHL in 2122 and also played with the wik thunder in the ECHL in 2020 2021 after being a pretty stable OHL defenseman in the later 2010 years however for hoffen Meer this certainly is not a guy that moves the needle a whole ton I don’t think he’s actually going to get NHL minutes especially when you consider the Montreal Canadians Prime defense Corp obviously things are a little bit different with Kaden ghouly out with an illness but I don’t think that is enough of a deterrent to say okay we’re going to give Noel henm a chance with the big Club if anything this seems more like an AHL of Al rocket kind of move especially when you consider the name going back over to Edmonton it is yakob perau now the reason I think perau is really interesting is because we actually made a video all the way back when perau was acquired by Montreal he’s 22 years old from Montreal Quebec Canada so the Habs are trading away a HomeTown guy 511 192 right-handed rightwing player signed on till the end of this season making 863k he was a first round pick by Anaheim back in 2020 and back in this 2020 era you can see The Scouting Report here perau is a pure sniper with one of the best shots in the draft class it’s accurate it’s hard he can score from anywhere his ability to catch and shoot pucks and stride when the passes aren’t in the Wheelhouse is a transferable skill that will serve him well and if you look at the elite prospects draft guide back from 2020 you can see that they compared yakob pero game to what was the player comparison over here did they even have one oh no they didn’t I’m actually looking at it right now but he was a 7.5 out of 10 shooting player and he was an overall grade a level Prospect this was a guy that had himself a whole bunch of potential heading into those next few seasons here and if you scroll down I mean 201920 the guy had 70 points in 57 games played 39 goals 31 assists it’s why he was a firstr talent he was so good in the OHL and eventually found himself in the San Diego system immediately after because of that OHL AHL Co rule that happened in 2020 2021 he was okay at some points I mean he had 37 points in 55 AHL games in 2122 and even had one NHL game with Anaheim but eventually his production declined he was sent over to Montreal in 2324 two points in 13 games last season this year he had zero points in six games but he was a point per game with the TR rer lions in the ECHL so he did get himself a small cup of coffee in the third tier Pro men’s league in North America because he just wasn’t working all too much out in the Laval rocket system so from the perspective of Laval they’re trading away a guy who was not really good enough to stick around on their team long term for a defenseman that will certainly be serviceable here this is an upgrade to the rocket however for the Oilers what they are getting is a younger higher ceiling forward and when it comes to Edmonton because they have a bunch of these guys they had Carter seavoy earlier on in his career they have Matthew seavoy now going out there and trying to get these high ceiling younger forwards certainly isn’t a bad thing it’s just quite a choice to go out there and acquire yakob perau whose profile saw him as one of the top shots in the 2020 draft eventually going down to being an ECHL talent in his 22-year-old year you obviously don’t want to see that sort of progression for a guy who’s this young I mean at 20 years old okay fine but at 21 22 to see him getting worse and not getting much playing time it’s certainly a choice to go out there and make this acquisition if you’re the Edmonton Oilers so ultimately Edmonton’s betting on some ceilings here they’re betting on the longer term upward projection of guys and the potentials that they have and Montreal is saying okay sorry he’s a HomeTown guy but we have more use for this defenseman over here he’s going to be stabilizing our Decor I guess you can say that with all the extra defenseman in lval going up and down the Logan Mayu the whomever else is I mean David reinbacher still has himself a spot right and then everybody else on the Montreal Decor like the Justin Barons and the stroubles ghouly coming in and out of the lineup maybe Mike Mat or David Savar get traded soon like there’s so much flexibility for Montreal Canadians Defenders that just having a stable guy to play in Laval like henm a guy who’s already established as a pretty good top four AHL option to just be there to just be a rock in your organization that’s valuable especially since you don’t really know what’s going to happen tomorrow considering all the Canadians defensemen trade news and injury news so at the end of the day this is a really good trade helpful out for the Montreal Canadians it’s good for Edmonton 2 if they wanted to expand on the longer term potential of a former top round guy but for now I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about this trade right here between Edmonton and Montreal it is Noel henm over to Canadians land in exchange for forward yakob perau what are your thoughts on this trade let me know in the comment section below I hope you enjoyed this v9 and bye
