on undrafted goalie Hugo havid who’s been terrific in this tournament at the other end Trey Augustine and the Americans the only undefeated team left cutter go tied for the tournament scoring lead one of multiable dangerous weapons Upfront for a stacked American team the other big difference between these two teams this is the 20th anniversary of the America’s first gold at the world juniors and they have a spectacular record in gold medal games 5 and one the sweds over that same time span one and five in gold medal games their only win 2012 in Calgary 11year drought since in a bubbling cauldron of gold and blue it’s the gold medal game of the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship as the United States takes on Sweden in in gothenberg the referees of this game are Misha hon of Switzerland Mark Pierce of Canada the lions with uto dermis of Slovakia and Shane gson of the United States so an American official gets to work the gold medal game involving Team USA the goener for Sweden is now 20-year-old H havet he his twin brother Matias turned 20 on New Year’s Day an excellent save percentage in a 4 and0 record here in the tournament Trey Augustine has played just three games for Team USA as a 940 save percentage all two goals on 21 shots in the win against Finland Magnus haval the uncle of the haval twins his second year as a coach of the Swedish national junior team and 34-year-old David Carl 20 years ago today his brother Matt won a gold medal with Team USA at the world junior Championship in Finland that was the first gold medal for the United States now they seek their fifth in the last 15 years here that’s good there fellas thank you hey boys biggest game of our lives here we go Mark here sets the stage he might not be wrong Anton vber Buffalo DRFT Trey Augustine gold and blue back at the point deep boam drops it up in comes will smip shoot tipped in front and H makes a great stop on that a nice high rotation this the kind of stuff that happens when you have chemistry and confidence Will Smith wins the jumps on the one draw and works a high rotal Guam maybe dangerous but he have that much confence and he puts it right on the stick of Gabe doesn’t have the leverage to elevate his hands are close together he can just shovel it into the side of the net as havid forced him into an awkward spot to go along with one goal in the last 42 years nice sck coming up the high stick penalty coming to swep call solomonson Casey pivots back Augustine’s going to make his way out [Applause] slowly Casey works in bouncing PT mordy feeds that back to Smith Smith te it up and shoots to the score deflected in front by G pero and with a penalty coming the United States takes a one- nothing [Applause] [Music] lead just perfect execution of a six on five Americans recognize penalties up coming they take their time they get the puck in the zone that’s the play that stifles all the pressure and we just saw this we just saw Will SPI the game Pro finding his stick on a slapper this is the chemistry that comes with playing five years together and pro beats his check Beast dead back to the front of the net he goes heavy on his hands to make sure he gets all of it to tip it in behind havs not going to let this one skip off the top of his blade pushed it into havet skate into the back of the net and The Americans on a six on five delayed Faceoff man of the tournament training only Owen Beckham Canada and that’s thrown wide by renzel and set ahead by nzar drop back to brenley we brittley gets a step on B laner the time expires and the goal by Gabe perau stands as the only one so far the United States a one nothing lead now brought ahead by Howard Isaac Howard centers it and that pass just miss Brinley back at the point goes for Casey and Howard has that knocked away in the corner Howard knocked that free now picked in the corner ID Howard centers it that bounced away from britley picked up by bead Philip bead moves in now for the swed centers it Oscar P that that knocked away OD man Rush the other way for Team USA in comes Howard Burks it back Nar shoots pad save by havlin bisu has to retreat the pass could in behind him as Sten goes out stanberg loose behind the goal pivots back H Casey who Staples him into the end board Nar back on it as edrom comes in David edstrom DAV back in the corner feeds that down to Felix anger sorum anger sorum he gets loose walks right out shoulder towards the goal it rolled wide casy back on it us badle up here as de plays it back Ander sorum back at the point for Le Pon taet don’t know if he’s looking back door back to Brinley or is he putting this in the feet I think he’s looking for a pass and it catches the right foot of havid and Isaac Howard is now your tournament goal scoring lead with his [Music] seventh huge goal for us to O now brought in by vber secondi shoots at the Flector went just wide for more behind the play two players tied up and chest has to leave he lost his helmet Finley shoes that goes wide and Hudson jumps up Lane Hudson pins that back for go as he spilled Casey hunger Sor walks right in and shoots up the F and Away h s knock down and the the fact that mity pulled this off here cleanly I don’t think he touched his head one time through any head contact at all nope none whatsoever hard and through the chest exactly the way you’re supposed to do it now wait the officials are huddling here no I think that replay just showed it absolutely we’ve had our debates on hits we understand the tolerance zero tolerance for head contact there was no head contact that should not be a penalty at all he began his coaching career this his first time with USA Hockey ol a tile stick there the fans are screaming about that here’s Howard back on it crunched by Alias Pon Howard works that back boam slides it back Howard back across renzel moves it and shoots and havlin makes the save if you hit the puck first and Brinley does that’s well that’s not a high stick that’s a follow through it doesn’t matter if you whether your stick’s above your neck it’s a follow through and that’s not a penalty plays it across to Vander final minute now the second period Vander winds in and a penalty coming out to Team USA with f 2 4 seconds to go in the period Sheamus Casey will go off back in for oand the sandine pelica walks in wads and shoots that hit balberg who stands right in front of the US net Miner time winding down play across shoots Flor look at a m with a bomb from the point and with five seconds to go in the second period the sweds are back within one [Applause] lecki says relax everybody I know what I’m supposed to shoot right here I’ve been doing an all tournament long that’s the one time where brenley knows it’s coming he’s trying to play tight to him he’s trying to play up high but he’s able to get it past the blocker that might catch a piece of Chesley right in front actually as well a little piece of Chesley in front front and beats Augustine paride he has made a living has leaki in the OB spot and that is his seventh of the tournament lingin up for Oscar Pon in comes Oscar Pon throws it back in foot picked off in front by foris on the back door was over that long shot stopped by Augustine the rebound just missed by Oscar Pon pisq very good here he knows he’s got to pick this off but not knock it in the net and he controls it well with his skates and his sck to get it out of there shortly thereafter the rebound right to oin and two saves required by Augustine off the face off long shot Bo scores and a minute 19 seconds into the third period Z boam has given the US it’s two goal lead back [Applause] face off clean win one timer and Forum Towers at home it happens so quick that there’s not a lot Sweden can do as he gets teed up and beats havid I don’t think it catches any piece of Ogen nope underneath and you can see when hav is trying to go hard from right to left everything’s opening up his stick is behind him his arms aren together he’s not moving Unison he’s moving in desperation and buum who’s having a massive year in Denver San P shoot locked but oh a chance stopped up high by Augustine and now that shot by Solon head by brintley along with Smith and Howard Brinley shoots him a sharp angle havin makes the save laid back now renzel shoots TI to but have a good stop there here’s Hudson chips that down to Brindley play back across go ws and shoots bouncing puck in front bounce away from Brindley Howard lines that back Casey down to Brimley Hudson rather down to Casey Howard spins it away back it goes to Hudson Lane Hudson slides it back to Howard to Hudson Hudson looks across knocked down by go eight Power Play Goals for Team USA in the tournament drop back Go Walks In feeds that down mord trying to center it bounce off the leg of solomonson right down to havet and Hugo havet has it interesting game of Kat Mouse on the PK Smith flips it back Sheamus Casey walks right in PS and sends it back in front that was tipped wide by Leonard bump back by Leonard snug for perau perau back to Smith Will Smith back across but hard shot whistled wide by [Applause] snugarooz high bouncing Puck behind the goal played back for go go feeds it back here’s Hudson go and that pass is rupted by force fall laid back down by Howard James play the side of the goal he couldn’t catch B lard this is probably their best chance Leonard he’s banging his stick on the ace he wants it he knows it’s coming and you see him slap his stick on the a some frustration afterwards really good look by Casey just chip it and just didn’t get enough an angle on it in comes Casey pivot back in the corner Casey tries to drop that off picked up now by perau G perau walks out feeds it back snaro shoots that was blocked in front his spe got in the away and the SED sent it down Chesley lead pass for Leonard winds in to lose pu Finley shoots and H sprawling makes the save just as the penalty expired Sweden Sweden had to be clean on their penalty kill and they were right to the end as Hugo have was one of his best saves of the entire tournament everyone crashing into him Fin’s got the puck he managed to fight off the traffic and get a glove up up for Leonard for Nelson rather that’s fired wide bounces back to Casey he shoots it’s kicked ahead by Vander it’s back along the boards Fe it down to leaki finds it back s pel shoot T loose on the side of the goal Augustine’s lost his goal stick and joh balberg lost the pck picked up by britley for Nar in shoots he fired that wide inside five to go now in the third period lindain looks ahead finds edra hunger storm now backand shot look at that wide stanberg moves in lecki comes back on as stanberg fired that wide and perau picks it up G perau slaps that ahead as Leonard goes after it gets a step on Olen works it back in and shoots scores and Ryan Leonard blows the fans a kiss as he might have just iced it for the United States it’s a 52 lead [Applause] Ryan Leonard one of the seven Boston College Eagles who plays for Team USA scores a huge goal effort on the rush ‘s there digs in shrugs him off Feats the defender I thought he was going to slide it over to Smith for an empty n but he likes to shoot it and throw good night kisses to the fans that’s how you move your feet keep it alive and all on his own quick release no less this Boston College line they’ve been involved in a lot of the offense and Ryan Leonard that is some kind of effort in a one on two situation to give the US a three-goal lead under four to play Nas the American players said they wanted to quiet the crowd they wanted to play the villains they’re doing that for the pro Swedish crowd for sure [Music] oand winds in and now hlin heading to the pchi mov in and shoots Augustine save that’s knocked wide so six skaters on five now for the sweds with three and a half to go leaki back for Olan Ogen plays that back with the pass is broken up and Chip ahead here comes snugger with the empty net snugger plays it back across and M scores 62 and the United States is on its way to goal come on Tre Austine having some fun in going to finish the tournament at 7 and0 the only blemish what to call it that they didn’t win in regulation against the Cs around Robin they won that get a shootout but this a Powerhouse us team that can bring nine players back next year including that Boston College line 16 the Swedish fans are on their feet and clapping with their team down six [Music] [Applause] to2 solomans had a knocked away right back at him on now this keeping their gloves on to not be suspended I suppose but that’s bad that’s a bad look on [Applause] [Music] Johansson we want this game to end well not Johansson did not have a shift through the first two periods that blood from ‘s face on the back of his jersey we got 31 seconds to go here in the third and they’re giving out 10 which is going to be silly because these guys are going to have to come back on the ice in 31 seconds anyways right [Applause] so there to be lots and lots of penalties coming up here some pretty good cross check here roach Le to laki and oen and that draws everyone’s attention Hudson’s going in there to keep the piece and all of a sudden Johanson in his first shift wants to start punching away at a guy who played 30 minutes tonight please [Applause] now and the US Begins the celebration they ex them this as long as they want and the guys will love Lane Hudson’s performance digging in there that’s what they’re playing for waiting for the US eight members of the team won Gold at last Spring’s under 18 tournament they’ll follow up with gold here and have a chance to come back next [Music] year done look there they’re not too upset about [Applause] it all right let’s get this going five on five and the United States runs the T T 70 to win in the world junior hockey Champion we will take silver yet [Applause] [Music] [Applause] again the 13th time 48 World Juniors the swedes will finish [Applause] second the the best team won from start to finish the US have been the best team in this [Applause] tournament Now
