ladies and gentlemen it is that time again today I’m going to be releasing my updated top 20 rankings for the 2025 NHL draft every single player and league has had their season start and for a lot of these prospects most of their season has already been played and a lot has changed since my last draft rankings but who do I still see as the best prospects in the 2025 NHL draft and especially with all of the talk we’ve heard at first overall recently is James Haan still my number one well make sure you watch till the end as we break down every single top prospect here and at that subscribe interiew for more draft content just like this as we lead up to the draft next summer presented by bet us now we mentioned James Hain a second ago over on BET us and the OS first overall haens is still at minus 150 with the rest of the field at plus 110 but it’s definitely tightening up quite a bit but if you guys want to make your own piic for this hockey season bet us is the place to do so just use code You2 150 on your on your first deposit and you’ll get 150% signup bonus on your first deposit and 125% Sig bonus on your next few deposits after that but even if you don’t want to make picks on this you can also go through the world juniors the world championships the NCAA hockey championships as well and of course every single NHL game throughout this whole hockey season bet us is the place to be now let’s get into the rankings for this draft season and the reason it’s taken me so long to release another ranking is just because this whole class has been all over the place there’s been some great performances here and there but a lot of it has been fairly even and it’s been Fair hard to cultivate an actual top 20 that I truly believe in but for December these are my definitive top 20 rankings then let’s get right into it starting us out at number 20 out of the NDP I have Jack Mera who I think is the best ncdp player by a pretty wide margin in this draft class which unfortunately means that he isn’t going to be able to put up the unreal statistics that other players would just because the play around him isn’t all that great if you can see in 17 games he has 10 goals seven assists 17 points going to be you next season Mah is somebody though that I like quite a bit especially as a rush player somebody that can work off so well for his teammates but that goal scoring is going to be a big thing going forward he is such a dynamic goal scorer can score in any op any situation any place around the offensive zone his shot is brilliant and he really knows how to use it especially on rushes that to me is going to be the biggest thing for him that transition goal scoring play he’s something that I want to see a little bit more Vision out of and a little bit more effort defensively but the competitiveness and the play on The Rush the play on transition is so good that I have pretty high hopes for next up coming at number 19 I have out of the Kitchener Rangers Cameron Reed somebody that I’ve liked quite a bit to start out this season I wasn’t really sure what to make of him coming into the year but he’s done some really great things so far in 29 games has five goals 20 assists 25 points has had a lot of good good and confident offensive moments to start out this year which is what they wanted to see out of him more he’s always been a very efficient very standard defenseman in a lot of ways especially on defense where he doesn’t have the biggest size but is very efficient how he moves and how he attacks different four Checkers he’s somebody though that think has been able to show a lot more offensive confidence a lot more Flash and I think we could seem him going in a more offensive Direction but there’s a lot of ways you could take his development in the future next up at number 18 a player that is pretty much right there with cevin Reed in my rankings in kishan heson another defenseman out of the OHL this time with the Barry Colts to me of heson it’s a little more clear-cut what he’ll be at the NHL level though I think there’s may be a little bit less potential in hsn’s case I think he’ll absolutely be probably a fifth four physical defenseman and a punishing one very similar to what we saw out of EJ Emory in last year’s draft which in the second half he was really able to impress me with his consistency in aeson’s case the more I watch him the more I’m impressed with just the defensive work ethic just how much he is willing to not just throw hits but make successful ones make the smart plays that to me will be a big thing for him going forward and a big reason why you think he will be such a good Pro the question will be how many minutes is he able to eat how many points will he end up getting but I think you’re drafting him to be a defensive physical Workhorse and I think that’s what aison will end up be plus the goal scoring we have seen this season nine goals in 25 games isn’t anything to scoff at now number 17 we’re going to go to another player that I see a lot of potential in in Bren cots out of the Seattle Thunderbirds now Seattle is not a good offensive team so he’s second team scoring with just 24 points in 26 games which shows you the state of the Thunderbirds right now but he’s already their captain at at just 17 years old which is pretty remarkable but in cot’s case he’s somebody that you see a lot of different ways you could put him in you could put him in a more high-pace role he absolutely has that with the work ethic he has but I can also see more of a defensive Center coming out of him with the highend vision and the creativity that he could provide he’s something I think just has so many different tools I think putting them together is the big question mark going forward but I think there’s a lot that you can mold him into that I think a lot of teams are going to be salivating over now number 16 we’re going to go to a defenseman that I kind of scoffed at to begin the season but man he has been proving me wrong so far that is r and Mera now of the Seattle Thunderbirds actually who started the season in czechia but of course has come to the WHL which I honestly think has been a pretty decent move for him I think getting in a more exposure over in Seattle will be good for him even if it isn’t the greatest team in the world but as you can see I think he was decent in the 10 games he played in czechia now he’s in the WHL at a half a point per game I think he’s that will have some Growing Pains there but in terms of what he can be with the skating with the physical play he is very similar to what we saw out of Dimitri simachev in his draft year I don’t know if he has quite the skating ability though it is close and I mean he’s kind of up that same Allen now getting us started inside the top 15 we’re going to go onto the qmjhl which actually is having a pretty good draft year I have Justin Carbono who has been a favorite for mine for a while in this draft class but he’s somebody that I’ve always liked he’s somebody that especially to start out this qm jhl season has had some great off offensive stats in 29 games 20 goals 43 points exactly what you want to see to me with Carino there’s so much to like with the power forward game he plays with the speed with the vision he has especially on the rush there’s a lot to work with there offensively I have some problems with some of the defensive effort and especially the strength that he has right now he’s 192 PBS but he can still get knocked off pucks a little bit too easily and I want to see him bulk up even more become even stronger so he can play that power forward game that he wants to play that will be the big thing for him going forward getting that strength strength and getting accumulated to the Pro game I think will be very important for him but I see a lot of potential in Carbono with the offensive potential there and the power forward game I think he can blame the future I think could’ be insanely valuable next up going on to number 14 another fascinating player in this class former Dallas Stars Elite in Blake Fiddler somebody that has quickly become and really reached into the top tier of defenseman in this class pretty young with a July birthday but 6’4 209 lbs the physical tools the defensive game are about as good as you can expect out of somebody that young you can see with Edmonton so far I don’t think he’s going to be putting up the most offensive totals in the world but 12 points in 26 games is pretty solid and of course got an invite to the selection camps for the US which is pretty impressive as well for Fiddler though that’s not surprising he’s already such a pro with his habits defensively with the way he’s able to read offenses with the way he’s able to just attack when he needs to he’s a physical defenseman but doesn’t over engage he makes the physical plays when he needs to makes those big hits when he needs to but uses his range uses that strength that he has in so many creative and well executed ways I also think especially with the offensive potential there there’s not a lot of creativity in the offensive zone but in terms of transition ability with those breakout passes there’s a lot to work with there with fendler and I think there is maybe a 30 40 Point defensive guy there in the future that could eat you minutes and just be a force all over the ice number number 13 next up we’re going to go to another duway Scher in this class I got lynon lackovich out of Moosejaw who has been such a stellar player for me so far this year not putting up unbelievable Point totals or anything 25 points 13 goals and 30 Games there is a lot of rawness with Lovich you see 6’4 190 lbs and you get you think oh power forward and lovic is decent in terms of protecting the puck using his body but he’s not much of a Bruiser out there he’s more more so using his size to complement the offensive skill that is just radiant he has so much creativity especially in tight with attacking play different defenseman he can just pull out so many different moves on you I love the shooting ability I love the creativity and even though the size is solid if he’s able to use that more and can get a really strong Dynamic especially with the skating too in his size offensive skater now we’re going to go on to number 12 and one of my favorites in this class and really has been one of my favorites for a long time in this draft class that is Cole rashy of the Victoria Royals who kind of reminds me a little bit of Berkeley Kon kind of a c light to me where he is just such a good player all around especially with the smarts that he has always making the right plays but he’s something that I think brings a lot of good intensity as well and you can see so far in 27 games Victoria 10 goals 26 assists 36 points I think the big question for me though will be how much is he able to produce offensively with his size is obviously not going to get the benefit of the doubt from different coaches out there but he’s somebody that I with the intensity he does bring with just how good of an overall player he is I could see developing into this really solid and consistent middle sixer now at number 11 we’re going to go to one of the more unfortunate cases in this class so far and sadly at this spot I have to go with Anton fendell now this might be the lowest he ever finds himself I’m hoping because we had the start of the Season just with a rough start and the injury he was he has sustained he is somebody that has had a tough time getting back into this swing of things but he still do like a lot of what fendell provides with the maturity the physicality and a lot of the smarts that he brings to the game he’s somebody I don’t think is going to overwhelm you with his skill at this point he’s something I think is going to be settling more into a two-way role but it’s going to be a solid overall centerman that I think will provide value for you and hopefully as we see him more than the El vincan this season we see him adjust a lot more to it he’s still pretty young as well for May birth date so he has that going for now getting us started inside the top 10 here we go to a player that in a draft of unknowns is one of the easiest to project in fact I think out of almost anybody he would be in the top five of most NHL projectable I have Malcolm Spence of the Eerie otter we know what type of game Spence is going to play with the smarts the work ethic he is just going to be a just a total grinder not in the sense of a is of a fighter or anything but a player that just grinds down play and just makes the right decisions in so many ways the the pro habits that he has already are stunning I mean he’s something that is on the older side of this draft class so that is something to take into account but at the same time what he’s been able to show so far if Erie has been pretty great in 26 games 15 goals 34 points his knack for the net the simple plays that he makes he’s going to be somebody that coaches will just love to have in their bottom six especially on that third line a versatile guy that can play into any situation and provide results for you in most drafts I think Spence would probably be more in the 15 range for me but again in this draft that just has a lot of unknowns Spence automatically Rises a lot higher now going on to number nine and a player that has also been rising for me so far this year I got Caleb Deno out of the qmjhl I don’t know the last time I had a qm jhl player I mean would have been alxi lafer but a player besides lafer that I ranked inside the top 10 coming from the qmjhl but to me Deno absolutely deserves it he’s somebody that I think is kind of against a lot of the things the qmjhl is now the Q jhl can be sometimes a mess especially defensively but Deno is such a consistent two-way player such a consistent 200 foot game you see at 6’2 172 lbs he’s something that I could easily see being this great third line Center though I could see more than that I could see a solid second line guy kind of like Mel backin where he makes a lot of the smart decisions just has such a good balance to his game you can see so far though with monton in 24 games 15 goals 37 assists to me I think the playmaking will be the big thing that will take him higher offensively but that’ll be the big question how much offense is there in his game can he be more than just a 30 40 point centerman that will be the big thing for me going forward I think I’ve been able to see enough to put him inside the top 10 but the pro habits and I think the potential there I’m willing to bet on now at number eight we go on to somebody that had a ton of hype in the first couple weeks of the season but I think is absolutely cooled off and I think for good reason that is Roger McQueen of the Brandon weat Kings now a lot of people will be shocked to see him as low as he is at number eight but to me it’s for a myriad of reasons he’s obviously a physical specimen 6’5 192 lbs but I mean kind of like Lovich he’s somebody that I don’t think uses as well as he could though certainly could in the future in terms of protecting pucks he’s pretty strong at that but isn’t again the Bruiser that I think that he maybe gets labeled as if you can see so far he’s only played eight games this season with Brandon eight goals three assists 11 points pretty good production there but he reminds me a lot of what we saw out of Kirby Doc in his draft year a lot of rawness a lot of inconsistency and I do like a lot of the tools that McQueen does have but I just feel like there’s a lot of just a lot of inconsistency in his game and putting all together using that IQ in a in a way that’s actually beneficial for him has been a problem so far I’m still patient on him he hasn’t played that much this season so I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt there still a top 10 Prospect to me but not top five I think other prospects have proved more now continuing with the double HL dominance in this draft class for me at number seven I’m going to go with Jackson Smith somebody that was ranked around the 15 ranked for me to start out the season but I have been in love with what Smith has provided this year he’s something that has just exploded in his offensive potential and the creativity that he has man I mean just watch a game with Jackson Smith and you’ll be blown away by the things he is trying to attempt some of them don’t work but man in terms of just pure creativity pure I mean things that you don’t even think are possible Smith is right up there in this class for me 6’3 190 lbs and you can see so far the production hasn’t been unbelievable tric City but in this position I think he’s somebody that could get a little bit more help than he’s getting right now 26 games two goals 19 assists for 21 points he’s creating so much for his teammates that just isn’t getting put into the net in terms of Smith game there is just so much to like there offensively sometimes you can get a little bit too overconfident but I really like the plays that he’s setting up the plays he’s creating and I want to see more of the high octane offense especially with the size that he has too I think there’s a lot of room to grow defensively which is why I think I like him so much now at number six right outside the top five we’re going to go to a guy that is really exploded this season for a big start let’s go to Victor Eckland who has been a beast so far in the El scan this year now he is on the older side so that isn’t the most surprising thing in the world you can see so far 23 games eight goals seven assists 15 points he not the shl but the elvan is brilliant Pro competition about as good as you can get besides the shl and he’s been playing great in that role in the offensive roles that he’s been given there and a little bit different than what Fel has been getting the ice time is a pretty big clear difference but in eklund’s case the slipperiness that he had of course in his brother and William is there but I think he’s more of a net driver less of a perimeter player but more of a play finisher rather than what William eckan was which was more of a playmaking guy I think in ecklund’s case there’s a lot to build off there though I could see his lack of size maybe being a detriment to the game he plays going forward but I I hope not because there’s so much potential there with the game he plays the just drive that he has in his game is just amazing and I want to see more of it and I hope he continues it throughout the rest of this year now we move on to number five and just outside I think the core four this draft I have Logan Hensler of the the Wisconsin Badgers now I’m here in Madison I have seen every game of Hensler both away and home live in person and in hensler’s case he’s somebody that I think is really going to be an underrated guy for this class because if you just look at the statistics it’s not going to blow you away by any means he has six assists six points and 15 games but there’s a reason not just that he got invited to the US World Junior Camp there’s also a reason he’s playing top pair minutes in the instant blade this year because he is effective he is productive he might not get the most points in the world but he’s something that defensively just puts up so many good results with the ability with the mobility he has and the edge word to escape pressure he is somebody that is just so clean so effective and somebody you won’t notice in a good way he just does so many clean and effective things throughout the ice and it’s going to be a solid two-way defenseman going forward I don’t see a ton of great Point Turtles there mostly because he isn’t this confident marar type most of the points I think will come from his accurate shot that will produce good rebounds good opportunities and you’ll get points there I don’t think he’s going to be creating too much he’s not going to be this top power play guy but in terms of raw work ethic in terms of minute eating play Hensler is going to be a be in this draft and again he’s not going to be putting up the flash but I think Hensler and what he will be in the NHL is a highly effective top four potentially even number two defenseman that will get the best out of your top end players but now we move into the core four which has been widely debated to start out this season it seems like all of these top four guys are right there for the talk about first overall and really to me they’re all at that same general level but to me it hasn’t quite changed as much as I maybe would have thought heading into making these rankings and putting it all together and number four and I think this is not an indictment on this player whatsoever just about the strength of the top three forers in this class I have Matthew schaer of the ear otters now I want to make it clear if you have him first overall I absolutely understand why he’s one of the youngest players in this draft class but what he’s shown already has been brilliant again there’s a reason why he’s on the Canadian selection Camp which is even more impressive than being on the US considering how stingy the Canadians are about ages especially in their world junior rosters but he’s somebody that has absolutely deserved that in 17 games of eie seven goals 22 points he has been unbelievable with some of the offensive high octane plays he’s been able to create and especially with how underratedly solid he is defensively I think there’s a lot to work with there teams are going to love the offensive opportunistic style he brings just how much he can jump into the play and look like a forward out there with his skating and the speed that he provides he’s going to be just an excellent all-around D and somebody that will absolutely I think be a top pair guy and be up to that l in the future I think there are times where he can be a little bit too offensive which could kind of leave his team left to dry at some points but considering his age that is somewhat of an understandable thing I think he will eventually get around to being able to use his offensive skill in more effective situations but already I think he is able to learn that he’s been aluring that throughout the course of this year I think the sky is the limit for him he’ll be brilliant next up at number three we go on to another player that I could easily see you having first overall and understanding why next up I have Michael Misa of the Spirit somebody that I just love so much about his game he’s really turned into and I’ve seen this comparison a lot John tarez which I think is an absolutely perfect comparison to me with Misa he’s exactly up that lane of just D smart driven play he’s somebody that is not going to overwhelm you at least when you’re watching him in terms of the skill level but he’s somebody that just makes so many smart plays every single shift every single opportunity that leads to goals consistently and you’ve seen what it’s been able to create so far with Sagen 27 games 27 goals 55 points the goal scoring ability The Knack for the net but just how smart he is around the ice how he’s able to control play established possession Misa is just a pro already and I could see him being pretty solid in the NHL as soon as next season I wouldn’t even be surprised to see him already being a c canid with just how effortlessly I think his game will transition to the pro level now compared to the top two I think I prefer the offensive potential a little bit in those two players but in mis’s case I could absolutely see him being this great allaround Center that you just love to have on your team and won’t ever regret drafting third overall but now we get into the second place spot and we’re going to go to the OHL yet again this is a great draft here for the CHL and they just continue to crank out some top prospects but Porter Maron to me is an absolute favorite of mine I think in terms of positioning obviously Michael Misa you probably prefer as a centerman but in terms of just a pure player man Porter Martone excites me more than maybe anybody else in this draft class people comparing to Cory Perry I think that is a pretty similar comparison I think that absolutely tracks in terms terms of the intensity in terms of the work ethic in terms of just how much he can get under your skin and score as well too I mean look at the production just like Misa has been brilliant in 26 games 21 goals 54 assists he has been Dynamic I think the big thing with Morton is that he’s not a passenger forward he’s something that will create on his own line be the play driver and not just be a play driver be an excellent one driving the net gring just great grit over the ice and just bringing such a balanced game that will just overwhelm opponents and I think that is the big thing for for me why I love him so much is that he’s not just this physical guy he’s not just this playmaker he’s not just this one thing Porto Martone can be everything for you and I think that’s why he is number two and in the top end of this class for me but that leavs me on to the number one spot and again a player that if you didn’t have first overall I could understand why considering the top end of this class it is unbelievably good but I don’t think this player has done anything to Warrant not being first overall and to me at number one I’m still going to go with James hains now if you had anybody else I could understand it but haens to me still brings something that the rest don’t quite have the undeniable Pace the undeniable skill is to me still the best in this draft class what we’ve been able to see with BC this year has been on a different level sure the point production isn’t celebrating vantilly levels but still is pretty great in 15 games four goals 15 assists 19 points a lot of his opportunities even with that first line have been wasted at times he’s just been so good in creating opportunities creating with his playmaking and I think that is going to be the big thing for going forward if he’s able to get that goal scoring a little bit better a little bit more consistent which we have seen over the past few weeks I think he’s going to be an undeniable offensive first line Center to to me and I think in terms of raw potential still brings the best out of this class I’m somebody that usually looks at potential the most when looking at prospects and I think that is why he’s number one ahead of everybody else in this class for me don’t be surprised if he’s at the world juniors potentially even a first line Center working for the US he will be exactly as advertised a brilliant top end play driver that every team could use but that is my top 20 rankings for the 2025 NHL draft as of right now and I love know your thoughts Down Below on my top 20 what do you guys agree with what do you guys disagree with and do you have a different opinion for first overall should it be Misa should it be
