we’ll do our best to highlight some of the bright spots from tonight Moses Moody Trace Jackson Davis but make no mistake about it this was a thumping the Cavaliers came in to chase Center and they whooped the Warriors 113 to 95 and we’re going to look at two segments of this basketball game the second quarter and the first six minutes of the third quarter the Cavaliers sweep the season series for the second consecutive season against the goto State Warriors and a are now 11 And1 in December and the Warriors have back down to 500 at 16 and 16 and 88 at Chaser welcome everybody Toyota Warriors post game live with NBA champion FES a I am Bon Hill happy holidays everybody out there and we apologize for this performance man this was ugly coming off that big win against the Suns on Saturday Bonte we were trying to end this year on the high note but really what we did tonight was take this game and leave it all in 2024 okay this was a regular old ass kicking all right the the the C Cavaliers they really came in and they dominated the rest of the game after the first quarter the Warriors did a good job in the first quarter coming into the game hitting first rebounding getting loose balls and the Cleveland Cavaliers said you know what we got to remember that we’re number one in the NBA right now so they came into the game they discovered the high pick and roll this is like a new invention today because as when they started doing the high pick and roll they just kept scoring at will donov Mitchell came into the game in the third quarter and it was rash from there Garland and Mitchell are a special back court together they’re going to be a problem in the Easter Conference as you m and Cavaliers improved to 28-4 and they are rolling in the month of December meanwhile the Warriors dropped a 4-9 and the month of December and they’ll be looking to wash away 2024 and hopefully start 2025 on a good note against the Philadelphia 76ers they kept giving the ball up they had 10 turnovers in the first half the Warriors did and the the Cleveland Cavaliers just kept running out for layups and they got their confidence that way Bonte four turnovers in that second quarter six of the first quarter which we always talk about every single show take care of the basketball but then the third quarter happened and Cleveland made a statement they made a statement there they’re not only just here to win a game they’re here to make a statement to show that they’re the best team in the basketball right now third quarter was just as ugly as the second as Cleveland opened it up with a 20-2 run and they blew it away people were heading for the exits late in the third quarter Fe he fell it was nasty that’s that was a championship performance by the clevand Cavaliers at half time I said two things they were doing a good job on Evan Moy and Donovan Mitchell well Donovan Mitchell must have heard that halftime speech because he came in and he was all guns in the third quarter 15 points in the third quarter coming off of that high picking Road they set a high screen the Warriors stayed in a drop coverage and every time he came off the boss like Dar him to shoot donova Mitchell over the last 10 games has been shooting 44% from the three-point line and he had to remind the Warriors this is the number one scoring offense for a reason Darius gin was holding it down in the first in the first half but Donovan Mitchell he came in the second half and both of them together are really tough scoring combo to stop Yeah you mentioned the 15 points by Donovan Mitchell all coming courtesy of the three ball and of course 37 points in that third frame they out scored a Warriers by 10 so you combine the second and the third quarters and the Warriors score just 38 points and they get out score by 19 that’s your ball game folks and then you talk about offense defense well your offense has to be connected defense defense has to be connected offense well they’re not shooting the ball well which hurts your defense because it puts more pressure on the defense it gets stop after stop after stop and the second worst field goal percentage this month 43% just shy to Brooklyn Nets who aren’t trying to win basketball games right now fezy I mean what you saw in the first half in the first quarter for the Warriors was ball movement but after that the Cleveland Cavaliers took him way away away from that from that ball movement the spacing it just looked like they were clamped up The Bigs for the Brooklyn for the Cleveland Cavaliers they made everything difficult inside the Warriors small lineup looked really small as soon as they went to that big lineup again in the third quarter that’s great job great defense by the Cleveland cavali they really put the clamps to Steph Curry and really took everything else out Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland got to feel like they’re in heaven right now right because even if they get beat you have some Twin Towers in the back that could just contest every shot right that helps the defense tremendously absolutely first of all you got to put pressure on the ball which they did just that took SK Curry off the shot matter of fact the Warriors try to run the pick and roll themselves you can see a difference in the lineups the Cleveland Cavaliers run a pick and roll they have all this space to operate the Warriors try to run a pick and roll they were switching all the bigs Jared Allen was there at the three-point line try to stop Steph when they try to pass the ball they’re so long and active the Cleveland Cavaliers are that every pass was either tipped or misplaced it was just all the turnovers for the Warriors they could never get back into the rhythm of the game the Cleveland Cavaliers will run out on fast breaks and go score the warriors with missing layups on the other hand they just got ugly quickly 3,000 points congratulations Jonathan kaming youngest Warriors to ever reached that Milestone there JK with over 3,000 points in tonight he finishes with his second double double in the past three games so he keeps up the energy and the effort 18 to 10 you’ll take that all day long from the 22 year old yeah he’s like a Ferrari right now he’s you know running and gunning and it’s on the Warriors to figure out ways to use him better I think the Warriors have found way Steve Curr is definitely has putting him in the bench having him come off the bench and being the scoring punch for the Warriors has been incredible having him with Buddy heeld both of them together are going to have to lead this Warriors bench they have to be a find a way to get buddy going if they go together both of them him making shots and and Jonathan kaminga driving down the driving down the driving down the lane I think that bench unit can be way way more lethal yeah kaminga just 415 from the floor tonight but he did go to the free throw line 14 times and made 10 of his free throw so he’s getting better and better at the charity striping and Steph Curry right now they made him play on both ends and the Cleveland Cavaliers definitely won this match up tonight and we’re seeing this a little too frequently here his lowest scoring games of the season this is the third lowest game remember that game in Indiana two of 13 which we touched on briefly in the pregame show he had the mythis DU with two points and he was 0 for five there uh first time in his career where he played at least 15 minutes and didn’t make a field goal you see at Cleveland Cleveland did a job on them in both games matter of fact combined 23 points in the two matchups against Cleveland you see Memphis on there twice so the Warriors are going to have to figure out a way to alleviate some of the burn off of Stephen Curry when he doesn’t have it going somebody else is going to have to step up or pick up the scoring slack but teams are starting to figure out a way to limit Curry from doing a lot of damage here think of the Cleveland Cavaliers and what they do you know we talk about strengthen numbers all the time but they’re doing exactly that when Donovan Mitchell who is their xfactor who’s the shop maker when he’s struggling Darius Garland carries the carries the load the Warriors are not they don’t really have that right now they Jonathan kaminga is coming into his own but they need a guy another guard that can create for other guys on the team to get them going for when Steph Curry can come back into the game right now a lot of scoring load on Steph Curry they’re not using his gravity properly his ability to create shots for others is really being negated because a lot of guys are struggling from the field and it’s really hard to get offense going that way Bonte so as we go into 2025 and they get to flip the calendar and it’s a clean slate they’re at 500 they’re 500 here at home they’re 500 overall what is the state of the go say Warriors right now well we know that the Warriors are a seventh rank defense in the league but the off defense has been slipping at the first 15 games of the season number one scoring bench in the NBA well that slipped now now it still says they’re top five but they the numbers keep declining every game the bench is still trying to figure out its Ro rotations its rolls and the starters it’s been different starters every game we’ve had 17 or 18 different starting lineups so for the new season I think the New Year’s resolution would be consistency I want to see consistent lineups I want to see consistent rotations and they got to find a way to start making these other teams pay on the defensive end with Steph Curry’s gravity so Philadelphia on Thursday that’s a tough team they’re starting to come into their own with Tyrese Maxi Joe lmbi and of course Paul George Who The Warriors are after is there another move they can make to help this team is there because look everybody wants a trade to happen right but you can’t just snap your fingers and make a trade they bring in Dennis shuder hasn’t worked out so far as he’s trying to find figure out his role in this offense and figure out his jump shot right now is there a move out there that could help the Warriors and catapult them to the top of the west or do they need to find something inhouse here to really improve their roster I mean you look around the league I I don’t see a move that can be made in this moment you know we talked a lot about Jimmy Butler the first you know few weeks where we talk about well that could be a trade well as you’ve seen with Dennis shuder it takes a while to get acclimated to this warri offense so when people are looking outside looking for a a savior to come in it’s still going to take some time to get acclimated so I say the Warriors have something they’re not playing to the level that they can play at right now so if you want to know what you what you have you got to figure out how you can acclimate Jonathan kaminga and use him properly how to get Steph Curry going he’s still a guy who’s playing at his Apex right now so there’s a lot of things you can do within house I haven’t seen a move that you make outside so right now you got to figure out how to grow the talent you have right now yeah I’m with you here maybe it smells as Moody he went seven of eight tonight point maybe he continue to grow and be better in the in the middle of the paint there’s a lot of things that the Warriors can be doing better that you can look at all right let’s hear from Steve CT a head coach the go Warriors as the Warriors get rolled by the Cavaliers what uh what was the biggest just offensive issue tonight uh well the ball wasn’t going in the hoop that’s um that’s for sure but we have to find a way to develop um better Rhythm to create better shots for sure um you know I thought we got off to a great start really good Pace um good flow and then that second quarter um you know we we kind of lost our our momentum and uh I thought it got down a little bit then the key key stretch of the game was you know Mitchell’s three threes to start the third we just I think they made we scored first and then I think they scored 12 in a row and and broke it open how frustrating mentally can it be when you’re just missing layup layup after layup yeah that I mean that that’s that was part of it I I I thought our guys continued to play hard uh the rest of the night but there were just a lot of um shots that didn’t go that were kind of demoralizing for sure um and it happens and we’re kind of in a rut right now we haven’t haven’t made shots now for for a while so it feels like it should turn but we have to try to find a way to uh to help develop the the Rhythm with um you know with passing with movement with spacing to uh to generate better shots and how difficult just was Cleveland’s size and and length on the perimeter yeah they’ve been a tough matchup for us for you know for the last few years with um you know Moy and Allen uh patrolling the paint and then they’ve got U excellent um role players um you know obviously two stars in the back court with Mitchell and Garland but um you know a whole group of role players who can all dribble and pass and shoot and know how to play and they’ve been together now for uh for some years they kind of remind remind me of our team um you know when I first got here that um they’ve been together now for a while um and the continuity is obvious and um it it it feels like a team that’s really well connected and there’s a reason they’re 28 and four they’re they’re really good Steve going back to the beginning of the game what what was it that worked so well for you guys because the first you know half of the first quarter at least you guys were kind of off and running yeah it was uh we were getting stops our defense was great and uh we were running we were throwing the ball had I think we had eight um throe heads um in in transition in the first quarter and then that dropped to three in the second and um was kind of a choppy second quarter I mean it’s not like our defense was bad we only gave up 20 points um so it just felt like we were missing um you know little putbacks uh layups you know and we just couldn’t couldn’t get out of that rut in the second quarter and and lost our kind of lost our mojo it the Cavs don’t block a lot of shots I think they’re bottom 10 for blocks but what does it say about their ability to I guess discourage people from coming into the paint and and what it can do to a team mentally yeah yeah they have a good defense um and uh like I said they they’re well connected I think Dean Wade is really underrated um he was uh really mucking things up in the paint for us always in the right spot coming over and making plays couple block shots and um rebounding and you know he that guy’s a really really good good role player for them and compliments the rest of their guys well Steve you you’ve talked about how much you really believe in this group you guys have had some obviously some really high highs and some tough lows at 16 and 16 where do you how do you think that that reflects on the team overall I mean are you guys a 16 and 16 team and but or do you think highly of that team uh yeah you’re you are what your record says you are I think um Bill Parcels I think there’s there’s a lot of Truth to that uh and uh you know we’ve we’ve obviously Fallen um you know from that early start where we had a lot of momentum and a lot of uh a lot of good flow to our game and so um I know because I’ve seen it you know the way we started I know it’s in us and I know we can get there but um right now it’s a struggle for sure another tough night from buddy he’s even missing layups now um do you think maybe they’re starting to get into his head a little bit Yeah Yeah that’s what happens you know as a shooter um that can mess with you when you’re missing easy ones and um you know all it takes is one though for Buddy and he’ll he’ll bounce back thanks Trace you don’t you don’t often see teams play with two bigs like Moy and Allen what’s it like competing against them um they’re really good um long Defenders um very good on the defensive end of the floor um but then they also can get out move a a little bit push the ball and then they got guards getting downhill they can shoot the ball from all five spots so they’re tough to guard what was the key for you tonight career high 16 boards 10 offensive um just trying to play play hard on the glass um just running in crashing I’m just trying to root him out get get us extra possessions so Trace you guys obviously had this the great start and it’s kind of faded out now and as you see you guys trying to find your way again what do you what are the things you look at and go okay here’s what we know we can fix you know every team has something a couple things they know they can fix um I think uh pace is a huge thing for us I felt like during the beginning of the year we ran um even in the beginning of the game we were running and I thought we got off to a great start but um I would say pace is huge for us um I thought defensively we were okay in the first half uh they went on a run to start the second half I don’t think we ever recovered and we were trying to play catch up throw different things at them but um overall I would say yeah that pace um we’re still trying to get Dennis Incorporated but um I think once we find our Rhythm and find that um we’ll be a lot better you mentioned how you know Jared Allen and and Evan moley can you know get in the way of things but you guys missed I don’t know like eight or nine layups it look like I mean how much of that is mental and how much of that is just awareness of them discouraging I mean how much of that is that them and how much of it is you guys you think I would say it’s both um obviously they’re great shop blockers you got that in the back of your mind um just got to go up stronger but it feels like once one person misses one then everyone starts to starts to miss him so you got to shake it off and just get ready for the next one what what does this team need to do offensively to to generate better looks um I just feel like um sometimes the ball sticks a little too much um we just got to get off of it um screen roll find the first open guy pass make them close out cuz they’re playing the nail then dve dve kick and uh just generate just movement more movement I think will help us a lot Trace how over here how how ready do you and Jonathan feel to sort of take this next step it seems like you’re obviously getting more and more time and it feels like you guys are taking steps forward do you do you feel that way yeah um I just feel like me and JK um we talk all the time um I’ve tell them before every game just go out there and play your game um just trying to boost his confidence I know it’s already skyh high right now he’s playing really good good basketball so but we’re just trying to do our part um and just continue to try to play at a high level to help these guys out all right cool uh Moses what challenge did what challenges did Cleveland posst for you guys offensively how would you characterize the effect of their defense um they got they got size on defense with uh Moy and Allen down there and then um they uh they had a lot of guys that don’t it’s not really known for defense out on the floor at the same time but they was able to disguise them and give good looks what do you think the biggest issue is that’s troubling you you guys’ offense right now uh different games different things just got to figure it out get a flow uh figure out something that works so we can be consistent with it good [Music] [Music] talk you have a ton of veterans kind of in prolonged shooting slumps right now how much do you think is just kind of I don’t know I guess Misfortune at the wrong time by a bunch of guys or how much is like you know you know is it related to the maybe some offensive issues you’re having I think at one point it was more like unorganized execution lack of clarity on what we’re trying to do and I think whether it’s confidence whether it’s literally shots not going in whatever it is it’s affecting our ability to sustain you know a level of competitiveness and you know myself included so we have to be able to channel like positive energy on like we’re playing hard we’re you know you’re trying to do the right things the ball’s not going in any Hooper that’s played when it’s a situation like that you can preoccupy you on the rest of the game at time so that’s our challenge to get over the hump whether we make or Miss shot you you want to make shots and we we need to make shots but um the temptation to lose confidence or feel like the world’s kind of caving in on you I don’t care how long you’ve been in this game it’s something you have to deal with independent of just making shots what do you think is like the not necessarily biggest issue with the offense but the most easily addressable issue um if I had those answers I think we wouldn’t be wouldn’t be asking that question because we’d be able to figure it out on the floor so I don’t know everybody I think first thing you think of is turnovers um I think tonight it wasn’t that big of a problem it just literally the ball went going to the basket layups mid-range threes pretty much everything last game against Phoenix there was that stretch in the second quarter where I had turnover was like that’s something you can address um each game’s a little different but the solution I have no idea how do you feel like the the implement ation of shudder to this team is going I think the numbers obviously haven’t been great but I think the feel of you know him with the ball in his hands me playing off of him uh it’s been there’s been some good spurts you know the Phoenix game was kind of indicative of that but we’ve had you know more games where we’ve been struggling a little bit I think we have to get uh more clarity just on when he’s on the court with me and Draymond and when he’s kind of with the a different unit kind of some go-to sets because teams are starting to go under a lot of pick and rolls trying to claw the paint and the ball doesn’t you know move as much and we have to kind of adjust to that but he’s been around this league and figured out different situations I got you know all the confidence the world we can do it here and we can help him so hopefully that that’s that’s the only way Steph out a 16 and 16 going to the new year what what does that reflect about who you guys are right now but what you guys can be going forward how do the kids say it we’re very mid right now we’re just very average um and the I think we understand that better days can be ahead you know you’re not in that big of a hole in the Western Conference if you look at the standings you go in a five six game run to us that sounds like a lot but it is like the numbers you can make up a lot of ground pretty quickly and it’s you know it’s a tough tough task but that that fine line between losing hope and confidence and understand you know one good week you’re kind of back in it that’s where we are feel like there was it’s been a similar conversation the last couple years around this time I mean you almost might have had a a direct you know same quote of of you know being average it’s does it feel different or does it kind of feel like deja vu there’s a little Deja Vu but I think it’s different just in the sense of how we started the year there’s some it’s kind of like the 22 year but it’s obviously totally different where we were had rough you know January through April that year but we started 18 and two the last two years has been kind of the opposite where had slow starts and had to chase a little bit and finish the year strong this year we started 12 and3 and that’s flipped on its head so it is an emotional roller coaster for sure it’s uh it’s frustrating because you’re losing games for all different types of reasons um but you know as the as the calendar flips to the new year and this uh small home stand that we’re on like I said it’s literally right there to turn the corner to having a positive momentum and something that you can kind of hold on to as an identity of how we win basketball games but if it doesn’t happen then you’re in the situation you’re having to answering the questions the same way for sure it’s definitely an emotional roller coaster hello stepan uh how do you describe the cha performance recently he’s aggressive Trace uh he’s he’s kind of indicative of our entire team we’re playing with a lot of effort you know tonight he was he missed a lot of bunnies but he is fineing around trying to block shots you know offensive rebounds playing big in the post um that’s all you can really ask he’s learning how to be you know a presence on both ends of the floor uh you know having started these last couple games and you know playing alongside Draymond so you’re excited to see the strides um I know he wants to you know play better in the sense of being able to finish at the basket when he has those opportunities but um I love his effort I love his competitiveness I love his will um it’ll help him in the long run you shout out one of the back-to-back games played a physical defense tonight um where are you at physically at this point in the season with with the knees and anything else honestly I feel great um you know the Phoenix game played 30 whatever five minutes came back you know fine tonight missed a lot of uh good looks but they were you know playing box and one playing Zone trying to just change up the look send bodies and you know hopefully what it looks like out there is that I’m healthy and it’s IND it’s you know clear how I feel which is great and able to play you know intense 30 plus minute nights and try to be effective is it cool thank youate that thank you yes happy
