it’ll be tough to sugarcoat this one the Warriors go scoreless over the last 2 and 1/2 minutes of the game they get out scored 21-6 at their leading the Nuggets 109 to 98 with 613 left in the game they’ve lost five straight games they’ve lost eight consecutive game to the Denver Nuggets and that’s a tough one to swallow the first 10 games they were 8-2 last 10 they’re four- six and we’re going to try to figure out what’s going on with the go State Warriors here on Toyota Warriors post game live with the Hall of Famer Chris wien NBA champion FES zil I am Bonte Hill wow they were rolling great minutes from Moses Moody great minutes from Jonathan kaminga Steph even though he was struggling dropped the second double double but crunch time again and a six straight crunch time game to the offense goes ay man Bon this game was everything that you were hoping it was going to be if you’re a fan watching the NBA Cup game this is exactly what you wanted you wanted the energy from the Warriors going against the Denver Nuggets the Warriors trying to snap a four game losing streak came in with that energy and the Denver Nuggets trying to snap a two game losing streak at home so the Warriors was playing without Draymond Green and what do you need you need Jonathan kaminga to attack you did just that 9 for 18 from the field incredible game by him the bench did a better much better job in the second half after scoring 10 points in the first half scoring their 30s in the second half but could not close in the clutch the Warriors could not close tonight in the clutch with scoreless two minutes left in the game wow this is a tough one this a stinger and they give to a great start in the fourth quarter they were dominating that fourth quarter early um and as you mentioned Monte the crunch time minutes has been a problem offensively getting shots up they got 16 more field goal attempts which is still puzzling to me that they don’t pull a game out when they get that many more field goal attempts uh the Nuggets got to the free throw I think they made 13 more free throws um Steph had a really good game nice double double yic was big time uh this was a really good game but the execution that’s what we talked about five games ago when they had that practice Steve C was going to really hunker down and try and get that execution together that’s been a problem those players in the fourth quarter there early in the fourth that shot by Moses m put them by 10 they had a 12-point lead you know when you get up by 10 and 12 on the road you need to extend that to 16 or 18 give yourself a little cushion Steph was on the bench uh but Denver kept it close and then down the end of the fourth quarter joic took over everything that you wanted to happen for the Denver Nuggets they did and everything that you did not want for the Warriors to do they did on the defensive end as well so you didn’t get a shot and you were fouling or giving up layups I thought it was a tough shot and I thought they overall did a good job on joic uh but down the stretch they made a few mistakes they double teamed him right in front of his face he hit Aaron Gordon for a nice little dunk there then when didn’t double team him he made the the proper read and made some uh some timely baskets and they made some free throws to seal it yeah wide open mid-range uper step got fooled a little bit there left them do said hey I’ll take the shot he hit the shot gets the S friendly roll there in the fourth quarter so the Warriors they lose five in a row here they lose a cup game they got to start the quarterfinals on the road and in knockout stage knockout stage so where do you go from here I think there are some positives I could take some positives away I know I said I wasn’t going to sugarco but Moses Moody stepped up Jonathan kaminga best game in weeks I thought brand pitsky played very well tonight but maybe some of the patterns with the rotations we’re going to question that all the time with Steve cerry of course that’s what the fans do but it’s a tough loss you wanted to get this one to snap that losing streak and beat a good team I mean you want to get a win anyway going against a tough Western Conference opponent of deor nuggets but the Warriors tonight the Ben Ben looked incredible in the second half I thought the they found a rhythm that they’ve been missing for the last few games and the bench has been really the reason why the Warriors have a winning record right now it’s because they’ve been scoring at 51 points a game that is their strength the have depth and you talked about all the things missing Draymond tonight having guys like Jonathan kaminga Brandon psky step into the starting lineup and have success I thought they did a great job being aggressive Andrew Wiggins tonight he was struggling with a shot but played great defense all those things are things you could take away but man with the bench play this well you want to close out a game like this yeah they played well enough to win on the road in a tough place like Denver without Draymond Green and you know Steve C talked pregame about maybe scaling back his rotation a little bit now all of a sudden all these players played so well but I do think it’s time to pick eight or nine guys and roll with them a little bit let them let them get some Rhythm and then go maybe go back to some of these plays but tonight I thought they all played really like you said about they they played desperate yep like maybe their minutes were on the line um but I thought Jonathan King was really good we saw him play more of the power forward spot the four spot where he had some nice mismatches thought he had great shot selection um so depending on draymond’s GNA MRI depending on how that turns out uh could be an opportunity to for Steve CER to kind of solidify an eight or n man rotation yeah left cast sword is for Draymond Green he missed a nice action the first game of the season he has missed he will get the MRI as mly just mentioned here but some positives John the kaminga as you mentioned and then now we have the Y State and he can score with the best of them 56% from the field and 50% from the from the three-point line so which way do you want it do you want him to score you do you want him to to make plays for his for his teammates I thought the Warriors did a good job in the first half limited him to five assists uh to five assists in the second half they did a good job to limit him to three assists but Nicolo yic is a problem man 38 assists they at the end of the game they just trust him with the ball in his hands every time he got exactly to his spot he’s a big guy so you got to really work in in pushing him out he got exactly to a spot and was able to get these these shots that you call layups but he makes him look so easy yeah I think the Warriors did overall a good job on him he kept the assist numbers down somewhat um but five starters in double figures Dev went up getting 32 assists I think the Warriors had 36 assists so the ball was hopping on both sides really what it came down to the free throws plus 13 for the for the nuggets at the free throw line um still baffling Warriors gets 16 more field goal attempts when you know you see that number you think that’s a perfect number for them to win the game we’re having a blackouts over technology gone it’s blocked out here five in a row the hell it all right nobody knows her body better than Draymond Green right so the left Cal wiers he’ll receive the MRI tomorrow when they land back in the Bay Area and get ready for the rockets on Thursday sounds a bit serious sounds that Draymond Green is worried and that this could be not a long term injury but maybe a couple weeks that he may be out of action who knows I mean what I heard from him is it reminds him of what happened two years ago where he you know thought it was a calf strain and it ended up being something that that led to him missing a couple months of action so from that regard it’s more like PTSD saying I’m afraid of this being something more serious but at the same time I’m happy that we’re catching it early so we can fix it and it not let it be something worse than what it is so um it’s it’s encouraging that the Warriors are able to catch that obviously you know with the pts they’ve been able to bring guys back on the floor so those are things that you can count on and you can bet you can also feel good after a game like tonight because a lot of guys stepped up in Draymond Green’s absence so the way you see it is with Draymond Green out the young guys can get more play and when he comes back they can be better and more whole when he gets back on the forth yeah anytime you’re apprehensive about any part of your body it’s hard to go out there and play confidently that’s kind of setting yourself up for injury uh and that’s exactly why you have an MRI so the Imaging will tell you exactly what’s going on get the information and then you take the proper steps from there so draymond’s doing the right thing he’s got experience as you said bante no one knows your body better than yourself so uh that’s the right thing to do as Festa said a lot of guys played well tonight um but they did Miss Draymond you know especially down down down the crunch time where I think again I think the Warriors have to really think about getting into sets I and I’m a biggest uh fan of five out in motion basketball but the last you know three to four minutes of the ball game when you get in half Court sets you have to have sets to get into Target certain guys not only the shots you want to where they who’s taking them but targeting certain Defenders that you want to go at um so they’ve struggled there throwing this five game losing streak the crunch time numbers are not lying that’s been a big struggle for them um so they have to get back to uh you know maybe some practice time and and work on that execution and jond green was off to a great start this season shooting 40% from the three-point line and 43% overall from the floor but tonight as we look at the team St compar the Warriors job 36 assists they outrebound Denver as cavon Looney had 11 boards in the start his first start of the season they did commit a turnovers in the pivotal third quarter gave up 22 points off of those turnovers so they’re minus n in that category Denver a plus 13 from the free throw line but after the game Steve Kerr was hot about the no call on Christen Brun after the game here’s Kerr presented by BMW particularly upset post game is that about them not like Bron yeah brown brown called a timeout he Dove on the floor he rolled over uh everybody saw it except for the three guys we hire to do the games and that makes me angry you know this is a like that’s a technical foul they don’t have a timeout left it’s technical foul we shoot a free throw we get the ball we got a chance to win the game they they all told me they didn’t see it he Dives on the floor and rolls over and he goes timeout it’s up to the referees to see somebody’s that’s why we have three of them somebody’s got to see it so that yeah that made me mad uh with that said that’s not why we lost we lost because we didn’t close again you know it’s like the fifth game in a row where we’ve you know maybe not all five but most of these games in this stretch we’re not closing we’re not executing we’re not making good decisions and that’s got to it’s got to improve I mean it was an 110 run I mean you mostly blame this on the offense late yeah yeah we turned it over a couple times um but you know the F fouling uh three-point shooter they they shot 35 free throws um so I thought we played a hell of a game for the most part and guys played their asses off you know they’re they’re competing and they’re trying uh but we can’t send them to the line 35 times and um so I think we’re trying too hard I think you know guys are closing out and um they’re closing out without any um discernment about what what’s about to happen you you got to close out and challenge close out to the side if a guy makes a shot he makes a shot but you know we we can’t we can’t send a team to the line 35 times and expect um to win a game against a great team so uh we got a lot to work on um proud of the guys for their effort we had a lot of guys who really you know came up big played well um but if we’re going to be a good team and I think we can be um we’ve got to learn to execute and close games what did you notice from the third quarter with the turnovers uh I think what happened was you know I looked at the stat sheet four minutes left in the second quarter we had 18 assists and one turnover we might have had one more for a shot clock violation but only one missc because we were hitting singles um and then we turned it over three or four times in the last few minutes of the first half and gave up a 12-point lead because we tried to hit home runs and um this league is unforgiving um if you think you’re going to you know get on a highlight reel you know show everybody you know what what a special play you can make um it’s going to be a turnover we got to hit singles we got to make simple decisions you know and and uh when we do that we’re really good but when we try too hard try to make plays on our own um we get into trouble and that’s why we ended up with 15 turnovers in a game where we had one through 20 minutes of the game so I didn’t feel like they were forced um by the defense either no no offense to Denver but but I’m going to look at those turnovers and I might see one or two but almost all of them are unforced and so you know part of being a good team is decision making it can’t just be about tanel it or whether you make shots or not it’s got to be about decision- making we have to become a better decision-making team and um you know that’s what’s frustrating right now is poor decisions are leading to poor possessions which is leading to this losing street so that’s what’s happening what went into uh step rotation being a little bit different tonight just wanted to change it up we lost four in a row um you know we were losing the step minutes um you know when he was playing or when he was sitting eight straight minutes um those stretches of the game have been tough so we decided uh and you know it was actually his suggestion the other day he came to me and said if you need me to do that I’m happy to do it and we liked it and we went to uh we did it a few years ago um but we haven’t done it often but this is this is a type of Team where we feel like we um we probably need to do it shorter um burst for him but also you know a shorter sance without him for the rest of the guys you guys were a plus 12 to start the fourth with him on the floor as part that to generate offense right away in the fourth quarter you mean sitting him um you mean starting him in the fourth exactly yeah so so this uh by doing it this way he closes and starts every quarter and um so we we like that idea he traditionally he hasn’t loved um three stints a half he likes two stints but he recognizes that right now we need to to to to do that and so I thought it was effective it’s hard because you got to take him out around the 8 Minute Mark of the fourth quarter but he needs he needs to get some rest he played 34 minutes tonight um that’s I think that’s the the number that’s manageable you know to keep him going through the season but um you know we’ve got to make better decisions like I said uh whether whether he’s on the floor or not would you make a JK all around JK did a great job tonight you know um he’s with with Draymond out it changes everything because now he’s playing the four and um he’s he’s just much better four than he is a three and um he’s good with Lon uh he’s good with Draymond if draymond’s the five and it opens up the floor for him and I thought he was very measured and and um poised and and he played a great game a couple of those fouls that you mentioned at the beginning where um pods and three point shooters how frustrating is that and how can you drill that uh yeah so pod’s pod’s a hell of a player but he needs to and I’ve I’ve told him this he needs to be a smart player uh you know he’s one of our guys who’s capable of making really good decisions um he had a lob when we were up 12 in the late second quarter that was frankly um insane it’s a five on four you just keep hitting singles throw the ball to the open guy uh he had the same play last week against Brooklyn where he tried to throw a lob over his shoulder he cannot be that guy you know and he can’t foul jump Shooters so I love Brandon he’s a hell of a player he’s got a hell of a future ahead of him but I hope he watches this clip right now of me talking because he needs to hear it he’s got to be a smart tough great decision maker and he’s very capable of it but that’s his next step thank you a few guys Steve uh we just talk to Steve he was pretty upset about a number of things but what what was his message to you guys after uh taking care of the ball uh not fouling Shooters uh and just get organized that’s being the biggest uh um that’s what we’ve been losing for the last couple games you know just not maintaining uh score at of the game and not taking care of the ball how how frustrating a stretch is this I mean uh it seems like it’s all late game Stu you guys kind of giv up uh just we don’t get organized quicker uh I think the more we do that faster uh we going to pull the win but we just it’s something we going know we going to work on and we’re going to figure it out how good did this type of opportunity feel for you you know obviously to play and all that feel agree and know just going going out there and just uh feeling free just playing uh and just focusing on winning you know the risk will Ender itself but I’m just excited and I’m happy to be out there most of the time so you had some really under control midrange shots the last looks like even Draymond the bench wased up for those how much has that been part of your progress as far as shooting the ball L those mid-range shots I think it’s been it’s been around since my third year second year I’ve been just working on on getting there you know there’s a lot of people going to backup and worry about me taking a three instead of taking a three you know go let take a shot that I’m more comfortable of with or get to the rim so what you kind of see there at the end of the game like I say um we all out there running around we trying to figure out uh what to do you know so did you did you see Christian Brown trying to call time out when J on this ball uh nah I wasn’t looking at that did cool thank you did you brown call that time out late did you see brown call the timeout late but the other three guys didn’t see it so I guess that’s all that matters how frustrating is this moment for yall obviously five straight losses in the way these loses uh I probably wouldn’t say too much frustrating just early early early in the season you know we got to figure out the Kinks so I’d rather it be now than you know later so we clean it up now just get back to executing and at a high level like we were doing five games before we were still executing um in the last five games but you know just do it for 48 minutes instead of having you know Sten and where we get cold and stagnant so we just got to continue to execute and um continueing to show our hands on defense end you were come back I’m good A little hyper extended but it’s all good it’s a little Stinger but I’m cool they finished on a 10 11 at the how would you kind of describe the final two pluses like I said just we got to get back to executing you know um continue to do what was working for us you know right before that uh moving the ball um flying around on defense uh just making it tough for them and getting out and going and doing what we do on the other side so we just got to stick to it even if it’s boring or what not but continue to do what you know got us the league jonath you say what what jums out to you when JK’s the spot four three two JK gets downhill you know we try to put him in situation to get downhill um you know bring his body a lot of guys are you know crowding the paint now when they see him so uh just having him with the ball in the hand downhill make plays for us either that’s at The Rim or kicking out the shooters one of the biggest factors tonight was Denver’s Denver getting to line you guys put them on the line 35 [Music] times how much more discipline is required to avoid situations like that um yeah like you just said it’s just you know being disciplined uh try to do our work early so we don’t get in those situations where you know we do have to foul and you know make them ear at the line so just uh continue to do our work early be there in rotations know we’re doing and like coach saying’s uh execution so we get back to executing I think it’ll help our defense actually out a lot he went up with 10 guys tonight obviously had no Dr on but just the other night he W with 13 he he think about short rotation what’s it been like just shuffling in and out not just you but everybody as he tries to search for the right combinations uh just stay ready you know like you said um it could be three four minutes that you’re out there it could be six seven so you know just go out there do everything you can give it a draw and you know when you come out you he’s probably going to put you back in so give everything you got execute and uh you know when the line change you know just be ready what’s the lock room like you guys ‘re we’re good you know we we know what it is we got double digit lead and all those games you know that we uh end up coming short so um like I said continue to stay with our execution go back to it Prep Prep Prep reps you know continue to just drill to execution and you know come back out we got a lot of more games left so just try to clean it up from here Draymond has talked a little bit about how he and Steph have been in Brandon’s just encouraging him as this season hasn’t really played up the way that he might have liked um as another veteran on the team have you had conversations with him about the way he’s playing and what he needs to do yeah you know he’s a young player so he’s still trying to figure everything out it’s a second year so um um you know he has two great guys giving him confidence and um helping him especially 30 on offensive side um trying to his finding his spots and uh knowing when to attack when to be aggressive know when to be aggressive to play make and you know and continue just to you know find his rhythm um yeah he’s been shooting not the ball well but he does everything else great for us so we try to tell him you know don’t beat up yourself you know just for as the offensive part you know you do everything a lot of different stuff well so the shots will come you guys are great think um me just made a lot of plays I is that which what was the first bucket do you know 232 you made the layup and then is that is that one of the N ones I I honestly don’t remember all the shots I just know he had made a bunch of them uh and Aaron Gordon so I mean they they their chemistry and cohesion they don’t ever get rattled which is why it hurts to have had the game won a couple times in the fourth and just couldn’t maintain momentum and I mean obviously against them it happened a couple times last year too it is uh it’s tough one to swallow cuz we played well enough even with our kind of dry spells and Bone had turnovers we still had enough you know to have a double digit lead in the fourth quarter and lose I don’t know the answer to the why you know Y is good Zer points the I missed a three Gary missed a three I think before that uh Murray made a crazy play on on uh JK’s dunk um yeah so if you’re including the last couple free throw like it it was just a tough combination of them you know making players convert and being great players we you know had a three at the top tie game do go in so it it’s uh it’s kind of a microcosm of our our season you know when things haven’t gone our way just trying to find goto sets and options to put points on the board to capitalize off a great game that we played for 44 minutes so stuff Steve said it was your idea towi for your rotation a little bit why was that and how did it feel T we’ve had some dry spells at the end of first quarter start of the second and same in third and fourth we wanted to just change it up when you lose you got to experiment you got to try different things and uh I’ve done it years past when the you know opportunity presents itself I’ll say and I think we obviously I got I’ll figure out my rhythm I got to make more shots and you know be able to put the ball in the basket more consistently but I think the offense that we created the energy we play with it didn’t I adjusted really well to it so who knows how long it’ll last but we’re trying to get out of this hole any way we can and you know you got to play a little desperate try desperate things uh this Point Brandon was just here saying that this five game losing Street compared to the five game losing Street last year the locker room is 10 times different it’s just more positive more confidence people have each other’s backs I wondering did you see an example of that tonight you now that you guys are on a five game losing street that feels different this year compared to like last year I’m not going to try to find positives and I think it’s just a matter we’re all playing well I mean hard and we’re all committed to trying to get out of this hole and everybody who steps out on the floor has been committed to that um we had a lot of great guys in lock room yeah we have a lot of positive vibes but nobody wants to sit and find positives in a losing streak it’s kind of just find a way to call your way out and I think we’ve we showed it for 44 minutes like everybody what happens on the floor and the commitment to how we’re trying to do it it’s uh this you know there’s something to take from that but we got to win even though uh no on rotation tonight was 10 did it feel different than say playing 12 or 13 oh for yeah compared to that for sure um but it’s one game you have to still be ready for any type of adjustments that might be made but there was a little bit more cohesion and chemistry out there especially with me with the second unit of uh for a little bit of those spurts created pretty decent shots until the last three minutes but it was it was a good flow and I think everybody had good energy so you know something to build on was was pretty critical of Brandon’s game tonight his decision making um Draymond obviously talked about it recently what are you seeing with him the idea that maybe he’s pressing he’d be at first to tell you like I know he wants to shoot the ball better but it uh I know the stretch tonight fou uh two three-point attempts it was you know a tough turnover we all have turnovers but that was a tough one you know a tough time and then um there was a play that I think the we had ran all the way down the clock and there was a mismatch on one side I can’t remember who it was and he shot the three at the top of the key you got to make it’s a make or Miss type of situation but it fed into the just the momentum and the run that they were playing he’s not the reason we lost the game by any stretch so don’t ever play put that on him but his growth will be to try to let the game come to him as easy as possible still play with a lot of energy and aggressive aggressiveness um but just get over the hump in terms of connecting you know both ends of the floor and you know lifting whoever he’s out there with on on you know CU he he’s been able to do that so deal with criticism you get better and keep it moving Steve mentioned that you guys got to become a better decision making reference to some of the turnovers late in the first half in the third quarter what what goes into becoming a better decision making team just trying to hit singles he we say it all the time just make the simple play that’s where I got in trouble um in the third quarter I think I have four of my five in that quarter where you just get into traffic and you don’t have any Outlets or I think I threw that hell Mary pass to JK I like the pass was just a little off um you don’t want to play scared or safe but you want to just play Simple and you know and it’s also that we always talk about the type of turnovers that you have that feed into a team’s especially a veteran team a championship winning team feeds into their momentum and their belief that no matter what the score is um they can get back in the game so you want to be able to control momentum as best as possible thank you thank you well you’re looking at meoto there well I say ABC where’s d d obviously would see decision making exactly and turnovers in opportune times at halftime they had five terms we say if they you know keep it to that number that will help uh they wind up having 10 in the second half and just at the wrong time and you know I can watching a game with K saying you know sometimes when things are not going well you try and do it on your own so you know it’s a it’s a positive mindset but it’s not the proper way to go about it because you wind up getting yourself in trouble over dribbling turn the ball over um and then you know what sticks out more than more than anything he’s doing his five game losing streak is execution the last three four minutes of the game uh Steve called it um de decision making um and I you know the inconsistency of getting into sets at the end of game you know I told you Nelly you know back in the day we’d have you we would we play up and down a lot but the last 3 four minutes he had certain plays against that particular team we call them goto plays that we’re going to you know try and attack a certain Defender and from our standpoint get a certain player shots I think they start need to start thinking about doing that I mean there’s always that segment in practice where you you do the last last two minutes of the game and you play against the other team sets I thought the warriors were playing incredible basketball up until the last three four minutes and what changed was fouls they started to get fouls on the other team they had the they fouled a three-point shooter on one on one end you foul joic on the other end these things started to pile up and on the other end offensively they weren’t getting the same quality shots they were getting the bench was was incredible there in the second half they were scoring at well gp2 had a corner three you know Moses Moody had a turnaround jumper these things were all hitting but once you lose that Rhythm you lose the flow of the game and I thought the Warriors then turn into one-on-one basketball then all the bad things happen at the same time you turn the ball over you’re getting fouls you turn it just it just turned into this you know this muck up of a game where the Denver Nugget feel good walking out of that game but the Warriors look at all the numbers everything looks good and it looks like a game The Warriors should have won so this is game 20 yep first 10 games 8-2 and I was kept saying postgame and pregame and you know that defensively they were very predictable they were playing great on ball defense they were not getting cells in rotations they were rebounding the ball exceptionally high level top top five in offense and defense these next 10 games they’re four- six all of a sudden defensively seems like they’re getting really beat off the dribble more into the paint collapsing teams are collapsing their defense creating high quality shots we’ve seen multiple teams make 10 15 threes against them tonight uh Denver got to the free throw line crazy amount of time 35 times mie um so to me the first 10 very predictably off offensively and unpredictable um defensively unpredictably offensively to the opponent now they seem to be predictably uh defensively but offensively almost unpredictable to themselves they don’t know what they’re going to um so a little apprehensive indecisive offensively these last three four minutes of the during this five-game losing streak um but th this is part of the Season where they need to regroup not panic uh get get a decent day of practice get your confidence back as fesa said a lot of good individual performances right a lot of things you can build on but you don’t get that positive reinforcement till you get a win
