and there will be no trip to Las Vegas for the go to State Warriors and they were knocked down in the NBA Emirates cup quarterfinal to the Houston Rockets and the rocket snapped a 15 game losing streak to the go to State Warriors the warriors were up 90 to 84 with 3 minutes and 3 seconds left after JK made a second free throw he was one of two on that trip the Warriors didn’t scor the rest of the game and they went on another scoring job in crunch time and this is a movie we’ve seen before something will dissect here on Toyota Warriors post game live with the Hall of Famer Chris Mullen NBA champion Fest is aely I am Bonte Hill look that game was messy the officials were a mess we know that but the Warriors also committed 22 turnovers 14 in the first half they cleaned it up in the third quarter with just one but seven turnovers in the fourth quarter and a lack of execution down the stretch here did them in again and they TI season L for Point score in the game well if you’re going to break the the your losing records against the Warriors I mean this is a game to do it you’re in the NBA cup the atmosphere we keep talking about it wasn’t there tonight all right there was terrible turnovers 22 by The Warriors you give up 30 points on those turnovers that really was the story of the game because coming into this game they never got into any momentum six or seven turnovers in the first quarter and so guys weren’t get going the the the really the bright spot was Jonathan kaminga and Steph Curry they were aggressive in the first half kept them in game it looked like they turning the corner in the third quarter but those turnovers they RAR their ugly heads again in the fourth quarter and the Warriors never they never stood a chance at the end yeah Bonte and FES you both mentioned the turnovers um the officiating was it was a sloppy game both ways uh but that favors the Houston Rockets you know an up and down clean game with with low turnovers high efficiency favors the Warriors so the Houston Rockets got the Warriors to play their style of play uh on the road and in turn between the turnovers and then lack of execution down the stretch put themselves in that position and I thought you know in the second the third quarter especially there was some good uh execution even in the fourth quarter we saw a lot of nice atos some split action for layups some nice open threes but they didn’t get that separation so all those turnovers that we talked about wind up Crossing him and put him position where they had to execute at the end on his side out of bounds and they couldn’t get a good shot off no buron posf gets his shot blocked there at the end of the fourth quarter but again back-to-back games against the Houston Rockets in which neither team scores over a 100 points and it got ugly there you could call it defense you could call it sloppiness but both teams are struggling to find their shots here but let’s pick up the crunch time tape again and War’s going a 3 minute and 3 second scoring drought in the fourth quarter you’re down one you don’t need a three you know I would have liked to see maybe you throw into the post like that split action you got three and a half seconds put the ball down below make the defense collapse a little bit and then work out of there seemed like all the plays were outside the three-point line the Rockets did a good job of denying um and pod had no nowhere to go really Steph bailed him out at the very end and just took a desperation three that was blocked I I’ll say this good thing is for the Warriors defensively you held the Rockets to six three Maids six threes made for the night hold them to 22% shooting from the three-point line but on your own end you’re up six or two minutes left just no execution there down the stretch didn’t even get a shot off a lot of possessions because they trying to they turn the ball over a few times and uh you know trying to make the Home Run passes and for the Warriors so far a lot of conversations about just making the simple play some of the things that were working tonight where Steph coming off a ball screen hitting the guy in front of him that guy would hit a guy that was diving down the middle trying to throw it straight in the Houston Rockets were way too athletic trying and throw crosscourt passes trying to throw over them that was not working for the Warriors tonight we we saw segments of the game where they had nice execution would be split action some nice ball screen action uh but those turnovers did them in because the Rockets we can say the Warriors played solid defense but the Rockets have a hard time shooting from the field shooting from the three they have a hard time scoring the basketball so they’re going to miss shots all by themselves uh they what is it one one uh shot different Warriors Got 84 field goal attempts the the Rockets 83 they made one more field goal you know if you take care of the basketball this is not even a close game yes well 22 turnovers the Rockets scored 30 points off turnovers so they’re are plus 12 in the points off turnovers category how about points in the paint we talked about balance in the pregame show Rockets plus 18 when it came to points in the paint 58 to 40 think of that you give him 30 points basically they scored 91 so they so Rockets actually on their own right scored 61 points and just 12 made threes we talked about that number being 15 before the game Warriors just made 12 they were awful in the first half four 22 so they did make eight in the second half but just not enough there the turnovers but let’s pick up the third quarter or let’s pick up the turnovers here but those backside Defenders for the Houston Rockets they were very active waiting for them to pass it to anybody hands active so you had to make very crisp and decisive passes the warriors were very LAX as days go with the ball careless turn turnovers led to them really running out in transitions they couldn’t score tonight the Houston Rockets couldn’t score so every possession you gave them gave them life to get into the game at the end of the game now it’s crunch time now it’s little possessions for them they made Alper shenon had a layup Fred Van Fleet came off for a three-point three-point shot so you look back at this film and you’re saying man we really had this game and we gave it to them on a silver platter I mean you can’t say enough about how much the turnovers cost I mean you’re right Bonte with this team and with most teams but the Warriors in general because they’re such a good offensive team when they give those possessions away it it just cost every night um you know and if you’re shooting the basketball really well you can overcome that the both teams struggle from the field uh so the Warriors never got that separation and then you put yourself in a position where that loose ball all of a sudden that BEC the biggest game biggest play of the game and becomes two free throws for Jaylen green well it looked like they corrected their problem at the half whatever Steve cerr said at the break the Warriors came out like Gang Busters in that third quarter I thought the Warriors did a great job of spreading out the defense making sure you attack the seams and whenever guys collapsed you you found you just found the the open guy making the simple play that is going to be the key to the Warriors here the next just to find ways to make to make simple plays and make the next play for the other guy instead of trying to find the Home Run play yeah and the rockets are very physical good defensive team so you got to understand the right way to attack them a lot of times is get that uh downhill drive maybe not to score but to collapse their defense because they put so much pressure on the ball one-on-one if you break that first guy down and get into the paint you’re going to open up some of your teammates you saw those clips Jonathan kinger attack in the paint you saw gp2 in the paint kick out for for Buddy hee all those wide open threes are created by attacking the paint first whether it be dropping into the post for split action or downhill drives Warriors in the third quarter did a really good job of that but overall the turnovers uh for the PTO for 30 points too much overcome when you only score 90 you know we talked about the officials here we’re not ones that rip the officials usually you control what you control you can win that game and overcome that but I’m looking at the free throw stats for both teams he had 19 combined free throw attempts that was a pretty physical foot basketball game a lot of guys are hitting the deck a lot of guys are complaining for fouls Steve K almost got ran out of that basketball game he was hot about a foul that Steph Curry didn’t get in that game the officials have felt like really changing Florida’s basketball game alongside the turnovers I mean I think the officials kind of they read the game and said you know what this is the NBA Cup this is a different style of basketball right now we’re going to let them play and be physical uh it’s really crazy that you know after a physical game where there was not really a lot of free throws that the end last of possession is determined by a free throw determined by the refs so you got to do a better job of taking taking out of the ref’s hands like you can’t the the Warriors played enough to be able to win this game you’re up six with two minutes left being able to take better shots and because so a lot of those shot turnovers were not forced yeah the the refs didn’t cost the Warriors this game whatsoever um but the the way the game was played was dictated by the lack of calls in my opinion uh and look there’s been a lot of talk about you know fans and and and players and coaches they want more physicality being physical is one thing but fouling people is another you you know Steph took a shot he clearly got hit on his on his arm a couple times that’s not physical yeah that’s just not calling a foul so um you know it was a tough night for the referees as you said Bonte I think the turnovers led to the lack of flow of the game but you know to me the NBA has really emphasize um freedom of movement which in turn means less physicality which is okay you know I think the game is is in a good place but physicality does not mean just letting people foul each other then it becomes ugly basketball yeah and that was ugly tonight 91 to 90 the Rockets win they snapped their 15g game losing streak to the gold of State Warriors so now Oklahoma City owns the longest or the most consecutive wins versus an opponent they’ve beat the Portland Trailblazers 14 straight times we’re going to hear from Steve cerr on the other side and a pretty good final four here but the Warriors missed a chance to go to Las Vegas so they will head back home to take on Klay Thompson once again round number two Bonte I was really looking forward to finding out if we were going to get a bonus if the Warriors won the NBA cup so that you want me let you on something my dreams are dashed you weren’t well I wanted to find out for myself when we got there okay I wanted to find out when we got there but tonight I mean this this game right here you know you you’re playing against the Houston Rockets this is a young athletic team you know that they were trying to break this record they were they were really motivated and you can see in the way they they play defense very energetic they were pressuring the Warriors pushing them all the way out outside of the three-point line and for a lot of the game like those first and fourth quarters the Warriors just played outside the three-point line when they had success was when they went inside but there’s Jonathan kaminga driving inside whether was post up for split Cuts there were times when guys didn’t cut and when they finally did they were wide open underneath the rim so these are things that the Warriors need to adjust to more more faster during the game and then taking care of the ball is just going to be the story of The Warriors so far yeah I think post game that’s going to be the topic of discussion and and before they play Dallas you know once again taking care of the basketball which they’ve overall done a good job theyve like 14th in the league coming in tonight so that’s that’s a good number for them but they had 14 at halftime and that put them you know didn’t let them create any separation whatsoever and then for the Rockets you know look I mean the not big numbers but fast break points 128 plus four for the Rockets Second Chance points 129 and then of course the points off turnover is plus 12 30 to 18 so all the hustle points go to Houston on a night where they couldn’t really make a shot it’s a 9190 game so you give a you know you give a team a third of their points on turnovers I mean that’s there’s not much else to talk about they made their free throws count I know the Warriers only had nine attempts but they go four of nine JK two of six there uh from the free throw line so that is a minus five there from the free throw line that counts in a one point game that’s been a consistent number the Warriors are 30th in the league and they’ve been there all season and that that’s a number much like some individual players efficiency numbers have to climb up the free throws have to get up you know they got to get up to the middle of the pack because what winds up happening is maybe that’s one of the reason they’re not attacking the pain as much and players if they’re not making their free throws they’re reluctant to go there which makes them less aggressive but let’s hear from Steve Kerr who was running hot down in Houston think side of the game uh I’ve never seen a loose ball foul on a jump ball situation 80 feet from the basket with the game on the line I’ve never seen that um I think I saw it in college one time 30 years ago never seen it in the NBA um that is um I mean unconscionable I I don’t I don’t even understand what just happened you know loose ball diving on the floor 80 ft from the basket and you’re going to give guy two free throws to decide the game when people are scrambling for the ball just give them a timeout give them a timeout and let the players decide the game that’s how you officiate especially because the game was a complete wrestling match you know they didn’t call anything Steph Curry got hit on the elbow plain as day on a jump shot just clubbed right on there no call so you’ve established your just not going to call anything throughout the game it’s physical game we’re going to call a a loose ball foul on a jump ball situation with guys diving on the floor f with the game on the line This is a billion dollar industry got people’s jobs on the line I am I am stunned I am stunned I give the Rockets credit they battle back they play great defense all night but I feel for our guys our guys battled back played their asses off and deserve to win that game or at least have a chance for one stop at the end um to finish the game and that was taken from us by a call that I don’t think an elementary school referee would have made because that guy would have had feel and said you know what I’m not going to decide a game on a loose ball 80 feet from the basket did you I know you had a challenge obious only had one time out left did you think about challenge no no it wouldn’t have been uh it wouldn’t have been reversed um and I needed to save it um you know for the for the the ensuing plan you obviously blew a sixo Le in the final 77 that was the you know obviously the punctuation our fault yeah we didn’t score we you know we had a turnover on the uh on the the pass from Draymond to to JK you know we had done a great job taking care of the ball after that first you know quarter and a half that was a disaster and um you know Trey’s got to make a good decision there and and um you know he took a chance throwing it to JK uh he’s got to just get the ball back to Steph on that and and um he knows he feels terrible in there um and you know I could have done a better job getting us into something different um try to free up Steph or JK uh so we all take it we all you know we all took part in this one you guys had six shot violations tonight how much of that obviously Rock have a really really good defense but how much was it defense versus you guys find it was defense they their defense was great pressured us all game um and uh I think four of them were in the first half and we couldn’t you know we couldn’t get free and then we we got control of the game in the second half did a really good job of taking care of it and bouncing back and uh doing some nice things but we didn’t close bottom line what was the difference in the third quarter see you get buddy going there just took care of the ball and got organized uh I mean any benefits of not playing until Sunday I mean three days off has been a pretty fenetic sched I’m not ready to answer that question I’m pissed off I wanted to go to Las Vegas we wanted to win the this cup and um you know we we we aren’t going because of a loose ball foul 80 feet from the basket with the game on the line I’ve never seen anything like it in my life and uh that was ridiculous UL thank you oh that was Steve kerk presented by our great friends at BMW and I told you guys he was running hot he’s pissed off CA him a trip to Vegas and we touched on this in the opening block of the show look the Warriors committed 22 turnovers they didn’t shoot the ball well shot clock violations Galore but also the referees kind of dictated the tempo with the physicality that they allowed and as mly mentioned FEI wasn’t really physical it just blatant fouls we saw the Steph play was like wait that’s not a foul and you see Steph out of B about something and curve it was obvious so I thought the referees kind of lost control of the flow OFA game there and look again the referees didn’t cost the Warriors to win but they did dictate how the game was played and to call that foul at the end of the game after everything we saw transpire the first 47 minutes it was a shocker I I found it interesting that Steve said we W it wouldn’t have gotten overturned so there actually probably was a foul on the play and there’s the fouls on every play that they can’t call tonight they were calling nothing so to me as you mentioned Bonte you know when it sticks out Steph gets blatantly hit he’s not going to miss a shot of that and you can see on the replay he got hit on the on the forearm not the wrist not the hand um so when you let all that stuff go and then all of a sudden to decide the game you call a foul when you weren’t call them all night long it’s very frustrating um could have called a jump ball could have gave the timeout and then let the players decide and that that ultimately uh is the way the NBA historically is is the differ from college and coo that the players decide things um so I think there’s a higher standard for the referees in the NBA and tonight was a tough night for them no question um and I think we all would have liked to see the Rockets side out of bounds and let them decide the game Warriors get a stop they win let the the players decide that go ahead F I got a question for you guys all can we go glasses half full because 22 turnovers giv up 30 points only got 80 4 Shots tonight and all these things going wrong you didn’t get the 15 threes they only got 22 assists and all this and the Warriors still feel like they should have won so it says a lot about the play I Feel Like The Warriors have an ability they have a next gear they have a Next Level they can get to and when you go back and you watch the film these are things that you can fix a lot of teams don’t have the ability to fix these things you just don’t have the ability to win these games but if you can fix these little things this is a self- cost I mean those turnovers a lot of them you can look at least half of them and say you could you really could have just held this ball or just shot it get a shot off let me ask you this not to cut you off e but Steph shot that with about 11 seconds left there’s about eight seconds left on the shot clock that was a great look and we’re not going to tell Steph hey don’t shoot it he’s the greatest shooter of all time but it was 11 seconds left could he run maybe five to six seconds more off that clock to where if you do miss it you get a scramble situation clock Runs Out There was 8 seconds left on the shot clock that that’s not fake hustle gp2 hit the floor several Rockets players H the floor reward both teams for that hustle with a jump ball or a timeout that’s what Steve Kerr is saying um so that that’s a tough way to end it you just gives you uh an empty feeling about the end of the game getting back to uh half glass full fezy over here that’s right let’s go I just wish you were in Houston so you could talk to Steve C right now see how he he absorb that half that’s all he’s got a long flight back to cool down get back here in houon right now and then threw that at Steve right now that press oh it looked like he wanted to fight somebody over there no I’m going let him I’m going let him calm down for a second elentary official would even make that call that would be see I parking rre oh man all right let’s track let’s go ahead and track for Success here on Toyota War budy buckets had 15 for like then they locked him down they locked him down and say we can’t let him get the 18 or we’re not going to Vegas you know Dylan Brooks wants to get to that table if he gets 17 they win oh man we’re going to come up you got to laugh to keep him crying I rried in the final four though I’m intrigued bucks Hawks Hawks are playing well you got Yannis and Dame on one side they’re trying to redeem from last season losing to Indiana in the semi-final and then you get the upstart Oklahoma City Thunder fezy and the rockets I want to see OKC OKC is OKC is tough I want to bad it’s not bad your boy’s going to get some sleep fezy you get to go hang out man it wasn’t that game on Sunday we could have a full on vacation don’t be low management I mean Zena did a great job over the weekend Zena’s ready to come in you want take a day off W he p i f you want to stay in La man you want to leave us like that you think about Allstar breaks klay’s coming in of course I want to see my guy that’s I’m I’m excited to see to see clay another reunion the first game Klay came back last time it was an incredible celebration obviously the fans and the salute to to Klay and what he’s me meant to the franchise I’m excited to see you know Luca donic is in better shape it looks better after the last couple games so that’s going to be a good game for both the Warriors to try to bounce back and the MAV so it’s going to be a good game for Mavs are playing well eight and2 in their last 10 games had their seven game win streak snap yesterday and it’s a team you do not want to give extra possessions to uh and the combination of Luca Kyrie and Clay but they really rely to me those uh lob dunks for Lively and Gafford opens up the perimeter for those players so they they’re a good team Jason Jason’s kids has done a great job with them
