[Music] and that was ugly ugly offense as the Warriors turned the ball over and Anthony Edwards was just too much as a t wols win their fourth consecutive game and the Warriors are now one and six over the last seven games last night Houston The Vibes were great today however without Andrew Wiggins and Moses moody in that second half we’ll see where the Vibes are at after this one but the Warriors do lose to the te- wolves and they’ll beet again on Sunday as the Warriors will try to get the split but we’ll try to break it down here on Toyota Warriors pul G live with the pride of yel Z kada NBA champion Fest is a zely I am bante Hill live here at the gate house here at Thrive City and Z we’re sitting there in the second half and we were just desponded because the Warriors just could not get over the hump in this basketball game it was rough to watch everything that you expected the Warriors to be able to do in terms of disrupting what the Wolves wanted to do that’s what they were doing they were in transition they were in passing Lanes they were making sure that whatever the Warriors wanted to do offensively defensively was just ruined and it was just tough to watch because they couldn’t find an answer no doubt I mean defensively they controlled temp tempo for three fours of this game and they the Warriors did not follow up the last game where you had the game the team playing without Steph Curry Draymond you thought when Steph and Draymond came back this game they were going to have the Firepower to be able to overcome the Minnesota Timberwolf but the Minnesota Timberwolves were led by Anthony Edwards his energy his fire he is absolutely driven to be special and tonight he really drove that team defensively they were all over the place led the Warriors to 22 turnovers 22 turnover getting out rebound and shooting 28% from the three-point line that’s just not going to cut it but and it started in that second quarter after we had a a great third great first quarter I should say it was 3131 at the end of one and the warriors were moving the ball hopping around offensively but then the t- wills open that second quarter on a 17 to4 run and you see in that second quarter one to nine from the three-point line and the turnovers we’re were watching in the tunnel fezy you looked up to the scoreboard you said wait the Warriors only have two points right now they were stuck on to for the first five minutes of that frame bad turnovers just bad chemistry overall some something’s not right in that lineup mixup something is happening where the Warriors are not getting to their spots uh they’re forcing things in transition really trying to trying to get the pace up but not doing it the right way not pushing the ball up I thought Anthony Edwards and we talked before the game about how the Minnesota Timberwolves there’s a little bit of a rivalry Brewing the the the way you win a match up like that is whichever team is able to Rally the team behind them to get back into the defensive transition to do all the little things to win a game I thought the warriors were not locked in this game tonight see to take care of the basketball it’s the simplest thing to get into Rhythm here when you turn the ball over you don’t get into a flow you don’t get into a rhythm and that will do you in you see the turnovers right here Portland he had 18 the Clippers have turned him over both times 40 and those two games but tonight it really R ugly head in the second half when they have 13 turnovers in the second half alone and The Temper wolves were just in the right positions and they knew what the Warriors wanted to do they wanted to drive and kick there were so many times that the Warriors would go in transition get to the very Baseline and then turn back and throw it in the defensive the people that were just filling in in defensive positions it didn’t make any sense but on your point Fus when you were talking about who can rally your team that was the difference because it wasn’t as if the Warriors weren’t capable of making their own runs it was that they were making their own runs and then it would take them minutes several minutes to get the next bucket to go from 63 points to 64 points took five and a half minutes that’s wasted time that’s wasted time and wasted effort there’s no doubt about that and losing streak here we talk about something may be building between these two teams Minnesota’s feeling very comfortable at Chase Center they’ve won four in a row inside this building they’ve won six to seven against the go to State Warriors including five straights so their lineups whether it’s random and goar down low Nas Reed coming off the bench or Anthony Edwards the two WS right now Fe he fell have the Warriors number well Rudy goar and NZ Reed own the pain tonight both of those guys it’s really hard to score against Rudy anyway this is a guy who’s won two defensive player of the years and you see it tonight the Warriors a small ball lineup being able to really struggling finishing around the paint Kavon Looney TJ D it was their job to go against these bigs and I felt like The Bigs the the the Minnesota timber wigs they they won that matchup they the reason why they were able they were the more physical guys they outrebounded the Warriors tonight they they they scored more points in the paint all those things were as a result of being a bigger team and the Warriors small ball lineup the way you win with that lineup you have to be faster you got to move the ball you got to make them pay from the three-point line none of these things were done tonight and you got to make make them feel you too you talked about the rebounding Nas Reed and Rudy goar the only two players to have 10 or more rebounds tonight and that is not characteristic of the Warriors that’s what they’re known for this is their bread and butter and you look cavon Looney started well I would say against Rudy goar made him for some shots he couldn’t finish easily around the basket but that’s where what dropped off is that you couldn’t see the or you couldn’t feel them later on in the game you couldn’t feel them make them uh make the the Timberwolves bigs feel uncomfortable when they got inside and Anthony Edwards in the feeli of physicality either as you mention cuz he had 12 at the break but in the second half he heated up this is what Anthony Edwards is capable of doing if you let him get hot he will stay hot and then he’ll let you hear about it and that’s what you hate to see when you talk about rallying your team you got Anthony Edwards the most fiery player in the NBA I would say talking crap to Steph Curry yeah in his face you don’t want you don’t want to get him going and that’s what happened Anthony Edwards got going and the team rallied right behind him and the Warriors couldn’t find the equivalent in their roster Anthony Edwards is absolutely driven to be special in the league and you know Steph Curry who is the face of the NBA you have a young guy coming in saying I want that spot I want to be that tough that that next guy so anthon Ed was you can see him rallying the troops you saw him limping to the locker room at halftime but what I saw in the second half was him rallying the troops coming back the Warriors made a run his streak of Threes broke the Warriors run in the in the third quarter and you can just see him h whatever whatever uh extra energy he had he gave it tonight defensively really chasing the guards off the ball chasing them off their spots Steph Curry couldn’t get loose at all there in the second half it’s just tonight was all about his energy and him being the leader of the Minnesota Tim and he let everybody know about it you mentioned letting letting Steph Curry know about it these two teams meet on Sunday these two teams had drama last season and with the way Anthony was talking to Steve cerr Draymond greed the referee Stephen Curry Joe lob you know that’s going to that Warriors locker room I’m not if you’re watching film after this game I’m not even showing anything offensively anything defensive of the Warriors all I’m showing is Anthony Edwards talking to Steph as he’s walking by all I’m showing is Anthony Edwards talking to Steve CER on the bench as he’s walking by this is a young man in this league who’s making a name for himself but for the Warriors this is really about pride and taking over I I I want Jonathan kaminga I want you to follow up on the performance you had last night these are things that the Warriors are looking for consistency and I think the Warriors they have all the pieces it’s just about putting it together and that’s the thing this is a back to back we have to remember that this is still a back to back you can explain you know tired legs slower starts Etc but that was the difference they had two starters sitting yesterday right so you’re thinking okay yes it’s a back toback but you got four sets or four legs that are fresh and that’s where you didn’t see even though Steph Curry had a quiet game five of 15 not not what you want out of your Superstar and then again that second scoring option Jonathan King had 33 la last night ends up tonight 13 13 points yeah you got to get more out of him no no there’s no doubt about that as Anthony Edward said last season hey Phoenix may have Kevin Durant but we have Jaden McDaniels so Jaden McDaniels did a spectacular job on Stephen Curry making him work for everything he had to earn and not to mention the Warriors lost Andrew Wiggins and Moses Moody tonight I don’t know if you can find two healthy bodies right now you be may be calling somebody up from the G right now no it’s scary to think you know some of the the discomfort you saw from the Warriors tonight is because of their lineup you’re out there playing with guys that you’re may you may not be used to and it’s you have to figure out how can we get things going offensively when we’re not used to playing together you saw people telling guards go to the other side to set up the split action right not understanding where to be in transition so all of this lineup variant is a new challenge that you’re going to see especially with Moody out of the lineup and Wiggins out of the lineup who knows for how long hopefully it’s not long term F that’s a scary thought of Andrew Wing is being out cuz just a guy who has been he has fought through a lot of injuries and fought through some discomfort even the last couple games last game Steve Cur saying I don’t know if Andrew Wiggins would have played tonight but he knew that Draymond Green Steph Curry were out and they needed to win the last game against the Houston Rockets So he played tonight him stepp limping off the court that’s not a good sign but you know hopefully he gets back on the court the Warriors have talked a lot about their depth Moses Moody being out tonight as well that’s another guy who could have stepped in for him so you got Steve Cur reaching into the bench Pat Spencer Lindy Waters these are guys that Steve CER has been high on but the the really the moro of the game tonight was was the Warriors mindless turnovers they never could get into any kind of Rhythm doesn’t matter who’s on the floor like you need to be able to take advantage of the Steph Curry gravity there was so many multiple plays where Steph is driving into the paint there’s four guys on Steph and three guys are bunched up in one corner on from the Warriors that can’t happen that’s not warrior style basketball and the defense is just defense was feasting yeah this B was a problem there with Stephen Curry in that second half and Wiggins missing him early in the third quarter was pretty ironic right Anthony Edward goes off for 18 points in the second half well who would have been his primary Defender Andrew wigin so now you have one less Defender for the Ant-Man who is starting to fill it here and the T Wills win their fourth in a row but the turnovers you guys both played at a high level you played at Yale you play you won a championship here what can you do to cure the turnover bug well they were doing things you want them to do some of these turnovers were just errant passes they were trying to get over the defense in transition they were trying to drive and kick but they weren’t communicating well it was a lot of again I think they just weren’t as comfortable in some of these lineups not understanding okay this guy’s going to draft to the basket let me rotate let me make sure that I’m in in his ey line and that’s what you saw a lot of people kind of watching and staring uh not locked in in the way that they needed to be that can happen on the backto back but that can also happen when you’re not you’re out there with someone you’re usually not I mean so many plays tonight you know where guys were expecting the guy to really pull up when you drive you have a guy pull up on the back side but guys are playing out of their positions Andrew Wiggins being out cause guys to play you know play the two play the three and you’re used to playing a different position so that’s one thing they’re have to going to have to contend with it’s really tough when you don’t have a lot of practice in the NBA in the middle of the season now you have to learn during the game that’s what you saw a lot tonight and on the back toback as well you really don’t have any time on the court so for the Warriors figuring that out there’s a lot of high IQ guys on the team you got you know Kyle Anderson buddy Hill they need to find a way to get buddy heeld going that’s another guy that the Warriors are really missing we’ve talked about the bench being so good this season so far far right now buddy heeld in his shot they need to find a way to get him open shots he took my next thought here buddy heeld just two seven tonight Off the Bench six points there bro not impactful whatsoever tonight as a Warriors they’ve lost six of their last seven they lose to the T wvs for the six fifth consecutive time three turnovers tonight for JK he had three turnovers combined the past two games against Denver and the Houston Rockets So let’s check out the team C stat comparison and we’re going to look at his points in the paint the Warriors uszi dominate that category they were a minus 14 there they did hit their free throws however they committed 22 turnovers and shot just 28% from the three-point line an ugly loss at home to the t-wolves they try to run it back Sunday and get the split against Minnesota but let’s hear from Steve cerr pres you know offense was the main issue tonight particularly I think you had three really long scoring droughts just what was the problem I mean besides just their defense yeah we we couldn’t get organized um you know we played a pretty good first quarter offensively scored 31 points um and uh we we just were out of position over and over again which led to us having to go one-on-one against a you know great defensive team best best in the league a year ago and obviously you know they’ve held held the Lakers and Clippers to 80 back the past two games so they’re finding finding their way defensively uh so we we have to execute better it’s simple as that uh 22 turnovers um not going to cut it and um if we went through uh you know and looked at at them which I will obviously tonight um I don’t think that many of them were forced I think most of them were uh poor spacing which led to difficult U you know one-on-one situations for our guys so spacing got to get better I’m sorry why don’t you think you were organized um we’re we’re trying you know we’re mixing and matching obviously I started differently um the reason for starting differently was to try to uh help the second unit uh get organized with draymont um you know but we need we need some some more practice time we’ve got to get our our act together we were um much better offensively the first couple of weeks of the season and last couple weeks we’ve been struggling which is why you know I’ve been searching lineup wise um tonight the game got away from us a little bit um you know Moses got hurt early wigs gets gets hurt I think early second half so that changed all the rotation patterns but um doesn’t matter we’ve got to we got to have guys who are coming in and um you know ready to execute and get to their spots and they you know we go through our stuff and we’re going to have to go over it more obviously Steve was there a point when you thought when you felt the game get in the way or did it I mean was that earlier or did it come later well both you know we fell down 19 in the second quarter and then uh had a good finish to the second and then a a great run in the third to cut it to three um so felt like we were uh right where we needed to be but then it got away from us again um you know early in that that fourth quarter and what is it about their defense that makes it so difficult for offenses to run their stuff well you got u a lot of long athletes McDaniels does a good job on the ball obviously goar um you know at The Rim um they’ve they’ve they got a a good um good puzzle the puzzle fits for them really well they’ve got you know Wing Defenders on ball Defenders with Conley and McDaniels and um and goar at The Rim so it’s a Well constructed well coached team is Draymond the alignment starting with Draymond coming off the bench to organize the second unit is that something you want to look at going forward is this just a one night trial I uh I want to look at it I mean I you know we’re we’re we’re trying to maximize uh Jonathan um you know playing him with wigs um playing Lon to start with that group um you know means that Draymond doesn’t have to guard the opposing center right from the get-go which I think is important um then we can you know close with Draymond at the five um so in theory you know I like what it looks like but we have to play better and we have to make better decisions is there any um early indication with with uh wigs and uh Moses uh I don’t know anything yeah what have you noticed from Steph in just the three games he’s played since the diagnosis has been made public with what with Steph the the three games he’s played um since the diagnosis you know came out what have you just noticed about his game well he wasn’t he wasn’t in top form tonight obviously um but um you know I thought he was uh was great um you know in Denver and looked looked good L physically looked good and um so you know this is this is all part of it I mean you know especially as you get older there’s you know there’s going to be bumps and bruises and uh some nights you feel better than others and all that stuff but um you know Steph will be fine I just wanted to clarify like so you plan to keep Draymond off the bench at least you know I’d like to I’d like to give it a look but but you know we’ll see what happens with wigs and Moses I mean EV every injury affects every rotation and um but you know the the idea is you know we’re we’re trying to um make the most of Jonathan’s ability to to get downhill uh to get him more time um you know he and wigs last night were were fantastic um so you know we’re we’re we’re searching for ways to um you know get those guys more involved um and not wear down Draymond and Steph and that’s kind of the trick um and then finding combinations within that uh as the game goes and uh you know we I thought in the second quarter um you know we we were searching for some combination we tried a couple things and they did not click and uh so we’ve got to we’ve got to constantly you know think about everything at the same time I don’t want a you know revolving door in the rotation all season long so um it’s a it’s a tricky puzzle right now trying to fit the lineups together and find the right combinations and uh my staff and I need to need to find uh find those combinations thank you you guys sep scorings you think the BG issue uh I think that and in those times we didn’t really get organized uh we tur the ball over kind of some careless turn turnovers uh you know uh it’s something that we talk about all year being a better organizing a lower turnover team and I think when we uh they’re a good defensive team we got kind of got to struggle a little bit but we turn the ball over for no reason it’s going to be tough to tough to score and tough to win Steve mentioned that the offense was flowing better at the at the beginning of the year what was happening back then that isn’t happening now uh I think he was playing with more Pace uh I think we overall just playing playing more Pace cutting harder uh a little bit more organized and was getting more stops you know we able to get stops and get out and run uh in transition our offense kind of flows better uh the ball kind of moves a little bit more and uh you know when you see the ball go in Everybody Plays a little bit more confident so uh I think offense affected our defense tonight but it kind of goes both ways we able get stops and run we’re much harder to stop for you what’s the biggest difference of sharing the front court with Draymond compared to kaminga uh with with with JK you know it’s probably I play a lot more picking role with him uh you know we run a lot more actions for him and then with Draymond he’s more of a point forward in that in that when I play with him and uh I know he’s going to handle the ball and I’m going to be setting more screens off ball for for scorers and Shooters and different things like that but uh so yeah hi draymont hello how are you good how are you I’m good good um Steve is saying that he’s going to experiment with having you you know kind of run that second team again you’ve done it before and um any any adjustments and how do you feel also physically after I felt great um physically uh yeah it’s definitely an adjustment you know just it’s a group of bunch of different guys um so it’s an adjustment uh have to figure it out but I’m up to I’m up for it sounds like you were part of the decision-making process to you know I guess go to this what like I guess what’s the rationale behind you um coach just called and asked he said it’s it’s something he was thinking about um and he wanted to know if I was okay with it of course I’m okay with it uh you know it’s I have been one of JK’s biggest fans since he’s been here um and so if he has an opportunity to start you can’t be hypocritical and they’re like yo we want him to start but it’ll be for you and you can’t be like ah it’s not for me like that don’t work like I’m a fan of his I want to see him do well so if his opportunity uh goes through me then it is what it is you know that’s that’s his opportunity and he earned the opportunity so uh that’s kind of how I view it um yeah so that was kind of my rationale you know he played extremely well last night you want to give that another look or two or three or four or however long um if it works then you continue with it and so yeah that’s kind of my rationale for me um I am a product of my vet what being willing to take a backseat for me so you got to give back what what what came to you that’s that’s what this is about I mean you termed it as a backseat I mean do you view that as that’s what you’re doing I mean you’re obviously still going to run the second unit he he seemed to think that that you’re closing most halves probably at Center yeah for sure I mean I’m sure I’ll close most halves um but not starting is not starting you know uh you’re taking on a different role and so yeah I don’t necessarily look at it as like this demotion you know I don’t I’m a starter in the NBA I know that you know so um I don’t look at it like that but you know if if it’s something to try to help this team win I’m always going to be for it you know uh I hate losing so if you got something that’s going to help us win you’re not going to get an argument from me and as I’ve always said I am I care about this organization and I know a lot of people in this organization including myself think he’s next and so if he’s next at some point we got to see it and for him to do that he needs the opportunity and like I said if if the opportunity falls on you being me then that’s what it is you got to figure it out and so uh he’s earned the right to get that opportunity and when I come back here in 10 years and I’m even more gr than I am now I want to see this franchise thriving so if he’s the guy that’s gonna do that which I think he’s more than capable of great it’s perfect this might be tough to answer but do you feel like you would have been willing to to make a move like this earlier in your career maybe hell no no chance absolutely not but I’m not very early in my career anymore so mindset has to change um if you want people as a leader of a team if you want people to buy in then you can’t be the guy to not buy in when it’s not necessarily going your way and like I said I don’t view this as a not going my way thing but most people will you know and and um and so if that’s the case if most people will you kind of in a sense you almost have to approach it with that mindset of what most people’s going to think you know and uh and so I don’t like I said I don’t necessarily look at it like that uh but you know when we started the season 12 and three we 13 and n keep doing the same thing what they say that’s insanity or something like that right so it’s cool is that sort of what happened tonight again in the fourth quarter as well is just you know you guys were kind of hanging there for a while and then at some point Minnesota just seemed to take over I think they finally capitalized we were kind of playing like for a while um turning the ball over left and right not getting not you know they were missing some shots uh and then they started to capitalize on the mistake so I don’t think it wasn’t necessarily a matter of um the fourth quarter that’s just when they finally capitalized on it what’s the problem offensively right now um if I had the answer we would fix it uh so I don’t know but we got to figure it out uh what’s the level of frustration at this point for you guys after you guys have so many games where you’re in it but you’re unable to to close out we want to win losing is is horrible um for all the different reasons played hard tonight obviously most of the guys on the back to back me and Draymond trying to come back in and provide some energy and uh just didn’t go our way especially we cut it to three in the fourth quarter and then you know the Avalanche started some tough turnovers you know Miss shots that might have affected our morale and our defense and our energy um it’s been tough to score at times and we can’t let that you know affect our overall commitment to you know both ends of the ball so good news is we got another opportunity on Sunday Stefan uh Draymond said that he’s more than willing to kind of do whatever you guys need for to win games and and support and um what what do you like about him kind of leading that second unit and and that’s worked before for you guys uh can that be sort of a spark I mean we’ve been trying first I you know it shows professionalism it shows his commitment to you know us trying to figure out what rotation work what lineups work what the flow should be you know my my minutes or my uh rotation changing Denver and last tonight just trying to find the right combinations and you know he came in and gave us a huge boost in that first quarter you know putting the ball in the basket hit a big three you know obviously we know what he does on defense every night um we have to be able to sacrifice for the group it’s a it’s again the DNA of this team right now and until we figure out you know who we really are who knows what it’s going to look like hey Steph um aunt said he called you recently and asked you for some advice with his shot what’s your attitude when guys like that reach out to you and when you were up and coming did you have anybody like that who you would reach out to yeah it’s a Brotherhood especially when you play with guys get to know him spend some time with him like I did this summer I don’t want to give him too much of the the the knowledge but you know you want to give back you know a little bit of the wisdom that you gained over the course of of your career and from the three-point line he’s he’s obviously figured it out this year spanding his range his game you know how athletic he is getting to the basket and he’s knocking down threes is you know he’s he’s evolved even more than than he already has early in his career so I I love when people ask me those that type of questions it still keeps me sharp it keeps me engaged on on how I’m doing things I learned some stuff too from you know the questions they ask it’s a cool kind of position to be in this uh this Draymond move is clearly about elevating Jonathan um the way Draymond put it was you know if he is up next it’s it’s time to kind of see if he is I guess just what’s your perspective on guess this moment for for Jonathan and and you know do you want to see what it could be with him for us to be good you know you saw in the Houston game you seen flashes we need him to be the best version of himself we have to be able to figure out whether it’s play calls whether it’s certain rotation or lineup combinations what can unlock his ability to get downhill put pressure on the basket demand attention from the defense and you know he’s a he’s a big weapon for us so yeah and especially the way the early season’s gone you know games that we’ve handed away after big leads you know tough scoring nights like tonight you got to the challenge of this team we’re we’re a different team than we’ve been the last three years and the experimental phase of trying to unlock new looks new go-to sets put the ball in his hands it’s time for that for sure um because we haven’t had results otherwise so we got to you know lean into that and might not go well every night but that’s what we’re trying to build I imagine a decision like bringing Draymond Off the Bench doesn’t get made like without your knowledge how involved were you in in that process same process with all type of decisions you give your input uh like I said to genius question it’s about the culture and the commitment of how we do things like I’ve come off the bench plenty of times uh draymond’s come off the bench wigs JK like everybody’s been in that situation where we’re trying to figure it out so who knows how long it’ll last who knows if it’s one game five who knows you know every day is just trying to figure it out especially when in a situation we’ve been in where you know we start 12 and 3 and been on a big slide we got you know be all in on that uh look like Edwards I mean he was celebrating pretty hard late and looks like looked like you said something to him um what was that I think I said something about we right back at it on Sunday and and uh yeah I know he loves to talk I love that energy he brings you got to go right back at him fun part about this little baseball Series we get to do it again on Sunday I know you it the season is long and you guys nobody’s getting get a younger I mean how much of it is energy for you guys and just trying to keep up pace of play and energy wise I think I mean yeah the league changed over where where you have teams even Minnesota’s playing a little bit faster than they they have in years past but um I think we just want to it’s not an energy thing it’s just us being able to execute for long longer stretches create good shots for longer stretches of the game and how we are doing that is hasn’t been very clear and consistent so that’s on all of us as players to continue to talk stay together a night like tonight where it’s not going your way don’t let it affect your body language don’t affect you know the the culture on on the bench in the locker room and hopefully we can you know turn things around um I feel like we have that commitment and I feel like we are still uh you know engaged on trying to figure this thing out Steph you had said the the knees thing was something new that you were dealing with um after sitting out Thursday how’s it feel feeling and how do you feel about the process of maybe sitting out a back to back and here and there and and maybe trying to manage this I feel fine like I said it’s a thing but it’s not a concerning thing it’s changes my maintenance uh from day to day my program that I do but I I feel I feel great I feel like I still you know you you can get where I want to on the floor and you know can play 2 and still feel fresh so I know the backto back conversation and maybe we get deeper in the year there might be certain nights that just call for you to take a game but I don’t want it to be something where the knes are saying something it’s more so just the big picture perspective so I think we’re in in that uh in that window right now uh hello Stefan uh last the month I uh participated in um for uh for the eam play Foundation to help to rebuild L Elementary School um this year as a volunteer uh IAL with some uh another volunteer from the community they really appreciate you and Aisha and the foundation the contribution for the community but how do you think your roles for the Oakland for the case my my role yeah uh continue lever leverage and direct resources you know funding programming tutoring um towards creating an amazing School experience for kids in Oakland Unified School District it’s part of our mission with the foundation so it’s been a really cool opportunity and even looking at Allstar Weekend being here having another moment where we can shine a light on the greatness that and the potential that’s in the school district and we’re just privileged and blessed to be able to do that that work cool thank you for
