tailgate might be ahead of my stream because as I’m speaking to you it is 11:32 p.m. eastern time we are in the second overtime at Jordan hair Stadium score 3838 Texas A&M in Auburn we might all reach the conclusion of that at different times but there’s so much to get into in this week 13 instant reaction we had three top 10 teams lose we had a half dozen ranked teams lose some of those teams in the top 10 lost to unranked teams on the road as double digit favorites W oh I guess nobody’s good as Tom shared in our uh cover three I mean in our CBS Sports workroom everybody sucks sometimes sometimes I mean Tom uh it was a day it was one of those days it it was a it was a glorious glorious day to uh to take in a college football it was a college football Saturday that’s for sure and it is always a great reminder to all of us whether in the media or just a fan that after we spent a week screaming each other about all these teams about who deserves to be in the playoff and who doesn’t and why some teams deserve it more than the others every single team we screamed about lost because everybody sucks chip nobody deserves to be in the playoff there aren’t 12 good teams in the entire damn country there’s barely three but we agreed to say we’d put 12 in so Dad git we’re going to have to figure this thing out we’re going to figure it out together so yes now let let’s start to to peel back this um let’s begin with what I will say is the most stunning because while I said Old Miss in Florida was a wouldn’t it be hilarious moment you were dealing with a Florida team that had gotten hot right you know it just that you could tell they were building some confidence Old Miss coming out of an off week like maybe they were going to get got in the swamp that didn’t seem so crazy we we had sort of looked at that you know Indiana falls short against Ohio State we will pick apart all the different aspects of that but I will say the one that I did not see coming is Oklahoma 24 Alabama 3 I mean which part of that which part of that did you not see coming more the Oklahoma 24 or the Alabama 3 I listen I’m I’m surprised by both but I’m not shocked Oklahoma one I’m surprised that Alabama only had three points and looked completely lifeless in the game like if my vision of this upset was going to be like a crazy kind of just things you know like not offensive explosion because Oklahoma’s offense isn’t that good but just a situation where more of a 24 to 23 type thing where maybe Oklahoma gets a turnover late or they drive and they get like a game-winning field goal or just something strange but for Oklahoma to essentially control that game in the entire second half because Jaylen milro started just turning the ball over like crazy and to completely like pen him in like that was clearly their game plan and we have talked about it before with this Alabama team Jaylen milroe is very good it’s just at times they are way too dependent on Jaylen milro and they also have the jayen milro button especially when they get into big games but when you get into those big games and you’re just used to letting Jaylen milro do crazy stuff and then you get into this game and then Oklahoma’s def defense is good enough to kind of take Jaylen milro away yeah and the rest of your options are all kind of rusty because they’ve just been kind of sitting around a little bit and it’s really not there and just then he throws an interception then he throws a pick six and it’s then he starts you start seeing the Jaylen milro of a couple years ago where not a couple but early last year where he just starts trying to do too much and you don’t want Jaylen milro trying to make everything happen in one play and he has a tendency to do that when Alabama’s in a bad spot and it killed him today man but kudos to the Oklahoma defense because they made his life absolute hell Brent venables and that staff just game planned him right the hell out of the game I had a couple thoughts during this game among them was something that I think DK even said and look we’ll we’ll have our own Chipper Jones DK uh commentary a little bit later on you got to stick around for that but um I he said I think we’ve been giving Alabama a lot of credit for these wins without really taking into context who they were playing against and that really especially early when Alabama just couldn’t finish drives couldn’t move the ball couldn’t sustain anything offensively I mean the the seeds of this loss were planted from the first quarter on you could just tell that Oklahoma had Jaylen mil’s number had the offenses number but what you did against Missouri and LSU like that changed all of our tone about Alabama but I mean we’ll talk about tomorrow’s top 25 later too good luck with that by the way it was tough it was really tough um but if I had told you Jackson Arnold was gonna throw for 68 yards in this game how bad did you think Oklahoma loses well I thought that’ be 31 to10 Alabama that’s why so much of this to me comes down to Alabama’s offense against Oklahoma’s defense but like you know we look at 34 to nothing against Missouri we look at 42-13 against LSU we look at those offensive performances 486 yards against Missouri 420 yards against LSU Jaylen milro has been a superstar the Run game is rolling and you just got nothing you’re watching here on the screen 234 yards of total offense that is let me scan real quick a season low for the Crimson ties at the absolute worst time as you were sitting pretty inside the top 10 even with some tiebreaker advantages for the SEC Championship game and you just gave it all away and I think the stat was that the three points was their fewest in a game since 2004 which to put that into context like that was three years before they finally even brought in Sabin that was like the Mike schula era and remember Alabama at that time sucked there there’s well they didn’t suck but they weren’t very good and there’s a reason they went to go get Nick Sab because it’s not like the Mike schul era was filled with Glory like they were a very mid ass SEC team at the time so even his last few teams were able to score at least more than three points in every single game so just yeah like oh you said the timing of this is horrible for Alabama because I don’t want to turn this into like a whole playoff thing all night long but we we’ve got a lot of time to be able to do the playoff thing if you know but did I’m just saying like you looked at all the teams ahead of you and what happened and like the opportunity that was there like Indiana loses Georgia looks like whatever the hell Georgia was against UMass like allowing 21 points to UMass it’s like allowing a 100 points to anybody else still doesn’t matter but I I hear you but so like you had a chance to really kind of solidify yourself in the SEC picture and also in that kind of first round home game if you don’t win the SEC picture and then you go and lay this egg and now it’s oh my God are they even going to get in they can’t help themsel which by the way speaking of Auburn that game’s going to Triple overtime that means we’re on to a two-point off right yeah too bad you don’t have the Illinois Penn State one from a few years ago too bad you don’t have Gus malan as your uh your head coach anymore I’ll tell you who’s got a notebook full of twoo plays Hugh got some as well don’t you worry Hugh’s got point oh yeah Hughes got him too that’s that’s true that’s true that’s true um we we will react to this when we have some I mean I obviously it’s already become a Bananas game um final my final thought on Alabama is that when you take a step back it is it is a flawed roster by Alabama standards it was a team that I thought could still accomplish Alabama type things which is being one of the best teams in the ENT country I was relying on the high-end talent that you had right here you know not just Jaylen milro but you know Ryan Williams um I I shout him out all the time but I’m not lost it’s not lost on me that when Deontay Lawson left this game with an injury the defense started giving up a lot more of those Jackson Arnold runs started like falling apart and giving up more explosive plays that is not an excuse but I certainly think it’s a reason to why Oklahoma was able to have the offensive success that it had in this game and why Alabama things just kind of got away from it but man you know you you beat Georgia earlier this year with a 28o head start and one by seven and that 17 wait 28 one by seven that 21 Point difference you weren’t a math major at North Carolina no I didn’t take a math class we talked um that 21 points is probably a little bit more of the difference between Alabama and the best teams in the country yes yeah anything else here uh huge like Oklahoma needed this just for their Spirit just to get like it’s been such a craptastic year for them an awful first season in the SEC so to get a home win against Alabama to kind of finish it off for you at home just feel like that’s that’s a nice weight to end your year I know there’s still next week in a ball game but I I think it was incredibly important the fact that Oklahoma a proud program it’s like 27 or 28 straight season maybe 26 straight Seasons with a bowl they’re second only to Georgia but we’re talking about quarter Century of being bow eligible every single year um they coming into the game they’d won 21 of their last 22 home finales it was a bananas uh there was a Bananas bedum game do you remember like we were working which one there’s been like a thousand bananas bedum games why it’s so sad we lost it 3835 and it was when they didn’t have a big 12 title game and so it was like during Conference Championship Saturday you just had this crazy Oklahoma Oklahoma State game in like 2015 or 2016 um you’re bow eligible you won your home finale you salvaged a season that at times looked totally lost congrats to Brent venables and like you said that defensive staff that was absolutely awesome stuff from them um all right so since we are going to four overtimes as we are live here on the cover three podcast at youtube.com cover three um you want to do Ohio State Indiana or Old Miss Florida Captain’s Choice uh let’s do Ohio State Indiana before people just think we’re dunking on the SEC okay so you a dunk on Indiana let’s do it those freaking losers I knew they were frauds all along I’ve been telling you all season they were frauds and boy were they frauds out there today probably shouldn’t be in the playoff there should probably be like we should put Florida in over the hooers at this point I mean if we are going to get the four best team sorry the 12 best teams you gota you gota I mean it’s the best teams right by the way just before we get into this when you look at all like the power ratings you know who’s one of the 12 best teams in the country Indiana yeah yeah no they’ve jumped from like they’ve jumped from like a two to an 18 throughout the season and is an 18 up there with a 23 or a 24 no but like that’s the that’s the thing that I try to remind even your you know hypothetical Vegas says this like well guess what Vegas reacts to what they see and they change their preconceived notions based on performance and Indiana has had their rating increased every single week it’ll probably go down a little this week though obviously but like even when they beat Michigan by five and kind of struggled the strength of schedule improved because of playing Michigan um first drve I mean first Indiana coming out getting a touchdown early Jim no’s baited him I don’t know if you noticed but Indiana comes out and obviously scripted drives are scripted drives right scripted drives that’s what I’m saying like it you came out well coached team they they did exactly what they were told to do yeah they went s0 yards and scored but like Ohio State never brought pressure they just rushed four and they were kind of just dropping back you know like they were mixing up their schemes but they weren’t you know bringing anybody extra they were sticking in basic ass cover Theses mans whatever they were doing and then from that point on pressure from everywhere from every angle and they were doing an excellent job of not letting you know where it was coming from before the snap they would wait as long as possible before they would get into it they would overload one side they would do all these different stunts they would bring guys and drop other guys into coverage like Jim nolles was just going through the entire Blitz book for most of the rest of the game Auburn wins in four overtimes but just like completely confusing and overwhelming that Indiana front Curtis roor was not sure where anything was coming from after the ball was snapped he wasn’t sure where to go and it really really flustered them and it killed them like Ohio state scored 38 points in this game but their defense won them this game and I know there were the Special Teams miscued by Indiana there was the muffed punt that went through the punter’s hands that set him up but you know that ended up in an interception so it’s not like Ohio state scored off of it and then there was the Caleb D’s punt return which kind of just really drove a nail through Indiana’s heart but just overall after that first possession the Buckey’s defense completely shut the hooers down and it went along with what I had talked about with what we saw from Indiana against Michigan their offense had its worst performance of the Season against Michigan and the Michigan defense that it faced very talented but not nearly as good overall as this Ohio State unit was and just they completely shut them down held them to 151 yards Curtis work was eight of 18 for 68 yards they averaged only two yards per carry on the ground and just I broke it down I looked at the stats Indiana’s first seven games this season their offense averaged 4.17 points per Drive had a success rate of 55.5% and had a 17 a half% explos iive rate the last four games those numbers have dropped to 2.26 points per Drive 43.3% success rate and an 8.5 explosive rate against Ohio State in Michigan 1.52 points per Drive 39.8% success rate and 6.1% explosive rate you can pick apart the SOS you can talk about how much it should matter because even against their schedule a 10 and0 record is a 5% or 95% Gentile outcome which should be rewarded but there’s also truth to the fact that they hadn’t played anybody and they don’t look nearly as good once they do the miscues accounted for what 14 points almost directly that that’s where I think that it’s um you know there there are uh ways that you go in and you open up an Advanced box score and they’ll give you the turnover luck and you can kind of figure out like what would have been a fair based on success rate EPA and all those things like what would have been a fair score it was closer than 38 to 15 but Ohio State not that close not Ohio state was still the better team so that’s the thing I don’t think it was that much closer than 3815 because Ohio State dominated the final 55 minutes of that football game Indiana jumped out to that 7even nothing lead and then it was a wrap for the hooers period period they were never even when they were still winning it never felt like they were in the game anymore because they couldn’t move the ball yeah I was Will Howard was let’s see 22 26 for 201 yards and two touchdowns he didn’t really run a whole lot in fact he finished with negative one yard his only interception hit his Receiver right in the hands so I’m not even putting that on him just no Ohio State dominated that game man that was not a close game the score is about as the scores might not be accurate but because I feel like Ohio State won by more o okay all right I I’ll take the other side of that I thought that with Ellison and lton I they had more four yard gains than I would have expected more than that Ohio State Defense has allowed against a lot of teams I thought that they gave themselves chances more often than you might have expected that some of the routine stuff that Indiana was doing offensively against Ohio State’s excellent EXC excellent defense I I thought that they were doing a a good job because we talk a lot about the bodies we talk a lot about the fact that you know this offensive line that isn’t loaded up with blue chips they haven’t had to play a lot of teams like that I thought that they did a good job of being able to at least create opportunities I thought that Indiana’s offense did not convert on opportunities I thought there were some Miss some misplays by Miss throws by roor I thought there were misplays by the skill position players and then of course like I said I thought there were you know the um the block the return the bumbled snap the fumble on the sack like it you just you can’t set up the better team with short Fields when you’re the double digit Underdog playing on the road and then the game got away from him but I I I still I me I’m not giving him a moral Victory here but I I do think that this was an Indiana performance where you I don’t I don’t think it proves anything regarding their medal or like where they are in terms of their caliber as a team I don’t think it should knock them out of the college football playoff if they’re I don’t no I don’t care about we’ll talk about that later listen we got no I think I think it pretty resoundingly proved that they don’t belong on the same conversation as Ohio because again I will point out Ohio state had two red zone possessions in which they came away with no points and they still won by 23 and if you look at Indiana they had the 70 yard touchdown drive to start the game they had the 75 yard touchdown drive at the end of the game when it was already in hand and Ohio state was once again just kind of dropping back and more worried about letting them run clock than anything else that’s 145 yards on those two drives Indiana finished the game with 151 yards chip between those two drives they had six yards they were never in that game period fair fair but it no I’m just kidding um all right we will get to rankings related conversations in tomorrow’s top 25 a little bit later on today um do you come away from Ohio State feeling like they passed state test then no yeah I think Ohio State beat a team they’re better than which is a pretty common occurrence for them I would actually say too the defense was incredible I would love to see their defense do that every week they don’t like that pass rush all season long has been there in some games and they complete disappears and then shows up tonight they had five sacks eight tackles for loss it was great to see I’d like to see it more consistently but the one thing I’ve also talked about was that offensive line trevan Henderson had that 39 yard run on the final possession where he slid down at the one and then they took two turns to get in B by the way they took they needed two plays to sneak in with their quarterback from the one yard line that’s 40 rushing yards on those last plays of the game they finished with 115 so you take away those runs they had 75 yards on 26 carries that is under three yards per carry you can beat Indiana doing that clearly you’ve beaten a whole bunch of other bad teams doing that clearly once they get to the Big 10 Championship because I mean barring something crazy they’re probably going to be there I don’t think you can beat Oregon averaging two and a half yards per carry I don’t think you can win three playoff games averaging two and a half yards per carry they’ve got to figure that out doesn’t mean they can’t because the more the more time they have with this version of their offensive line it’s realistic to expect they will improve but if they play like they did today they won’t you know what Henderson’s uh performance today made me think about how um beneficial it’s been to have him and Quin Shan Judkins to be able to just share the workload because you know Henderson’s dealt with some injuries throughout his career our tread on the tires count for him heading into the college football playoff and an unprecedentedly long schedule is um it’s gonna it’s G to have him fresher than he would have been in other Seasons so it’s a good sign moving forward for sure coming up on the other side we continue with our week 13 reactions including missed opportunities for Old Miss and now that it’s final in four dag um overtimes how does Texas A&M rebound from A Loss at Auburn next I back here on the cover three podcast and oh boy some belt Billy Dunn did it I credit to the man I I loved he had a um an interview with Molly McGrath he was you know he was really honest he was really passionate you know he he said they they they love you with when you win and they hate you when you lose or they can’t stand you when you lose he might not have said hate he said I’ve got a conditional relationship you know with this job that’s that’s somebody who’s been through the hot seat and come out on the other side with some scars he’s got a very cleare eyy view of the way that this game works but um he credited his team and his team has strung together a couple of wins at home against competition that makes them feel good about themselves and and the Florida Gators are six and five eclipsing their win total they are B eligible but there’s also the Old Miss of this because Old Miss was sitting inside the top 10 Old Miss because of tiebreaker reasons was not in a great position to make the SEC Championship game which even prompted Lane kein to tell reporters hey it might be good not to play in the SEC Championship game so we can get ready for the playoff oops to be fair to lame kein because I had to write about this for CBS sports.com on Saturday his actual quote says I’ve been talking to other coaches and we’ve been saying it would be better to not play in the SEC Championship game be 10 and two rather than take a third loss in the SEC Championship game and risk getting left out took that to heart listen the context will be lost all we’re going to remember is that llane kein was like yeah it might be better not to play in the SEC title game for a program that has never and this is oh SEC title games only been around since 1992 but zero SEC Championship Game appearances for Old Miss you had Red Zone opportunities you dropped the ball uh or excuse me Jackson Dart threw the ball to Florida yeah you know like it was all right there Mississippi state is on deck next I mean just Waltzing out of a Georgia win to a 10 and2 record was right there and yet they tripped over their feet yeah I mean listen Florida be happy about it you killed somebody season you’ve got reason to be optimistic about the future DJ lagway is looking pretty damn good he’s looking like he’s something going to be something for you in these next few years but Old Miss lost this game more than Florida won it yeah I mean they had the three turnovers and they had three Red Zone possessions you know how many points they scored on them is it three zero zero three Red Zone possessions zero points two turnovers and like if you look at it Florida didn’t get any points off of those turnovers it’s just the fact that it’s not that they gave Florida points with them it’s they took points away from themselves and when you lose by seven and you have two Red Zone turnovers it’s not really hard to figure out whose fault it is and you know Jackson Dart had the two interceptions just that was a game and you look at Miss had 124 more yards they averaged half a yard more per play they had the ball not much longer but defensively they weren’t incredible but they played fine but they just gave the ball away in the red zone and they gave the game away while doing so and they gave away their SEC hopes and they probably gave away their playoff hopes it was just an awful day for the rebels I got yelled at but I was yeah sure um I was glad because it it meant that I’d connected the right dots because nine years ago in November Old Miss was playing against an unranked team and they were in overtime and they had the opponent on a fourth and 20 and Hunter Henry Hunter catches the pass about about a 16 yard pass or so and as he’s being tackled near the sideline just decides to I don’t know I’m just going to one-handed hurl this thing backwards about 12 yards the ball bounces Alex Collins again remembering some dudes picks it up and runs for a first down to convert the fourth and 25 Arkansas proceeds to score a touchdown convert the three the two-point try to walk it off in overtime with a one point 53- 52 win who was the coach of Arkansas that day BR well more on him soon don’t worry much more on him soon and his decision making along the way and it was it was so often that you always hear Miss fans discuss like Hey listen if it’s not for that crazy Hunter Henry play we would have been in the SEC title game which is true you had one conference loss already but you had a head-to-head win against Alabama and because Alabama and you were both like clear the rest of the pack things were looking like Old Miss might be able to win the SEC West spot in the SEC Championship game but you know what ol Miss had already lost before that Arkansas Game and I had forgotten this because Miss had lost to Florida in the swamp as the number three team in the country since Old Miss beat Tim TBO in 2008 leading to the weepy promise ever since the weepy promise Florida’s three and0 against Old Miss incl two wins against the rebels when the rebels were a top 10 team another win for Tim doing it for Tim this is this is history rearing its ugly head for an Old Miss program that has been successful but fallen short this is the banana peel this is the Charlie Brown football this game is the one that is going to sting so deeply for the dentist for swag Kelly for Dr Bo for the gas mask and for everyone that loves Old Miss sorry bunky I mean sorry bunky too this this sucks because you are right oh miss lost this game yep very much and now like you’ve got three losses all to teams that are probably not going to be ranked in the final top 25 and that team is not like everyone talks about like oh what’s the three lost SEC team that’s going to ruin everyone’s day in the playoff I’ll tell you which one it sure as heck ain’t going to be it’s going to be the one with all three losses to unranked teams yeah it’s that’s irony Old Miss finally learns how to B win the big one and then loses the little ones that was the other part of it that I wrote I was like and all of this came after your biggest like biggest win since 1970 MH all the SEC titles all of the national championships that the university claims are all before 1970 and you’d beaten Georgia the highest ranked team to ever lose in that Stadium Vault Hemingway Stadium dang blew it tough scene uh speaking of blowing it Texas A&M I mean it like these were two teams who were taking turns blowing it yeah fair fair because Auburn did have a 21 to nothing lead in this game and then it was 31-28 Texas A&M in the fourth quarter uh I mean are you that surprised I mean I know I said on the show because you were talking about this so it’s probably silly to ask you like I said that teex like Auburn had no shot but I was sitting there thinking because they would be so focused on Alabama like Q frees was gonna be so dead set on beating the tide to kind of end the season with that that I figured they were gonna kind of Punt on this game but they clearly did not so I mean I don’t know oh my my my thought is because it was at home and let’s see I think that they had had a couple where were some of these bad losses obviously like they had been severely lacking so you had the home loss to Vanderbilt you had the home loss to Oklahoma and you had the home loss to Arkansas and the home loss to Cal to me my calculation was that Hugh freeze understands that having you know was it 60 where are we at right now having 87,4 51 people mad at you together is way worse than having those 90,000 people mad at you at their homes individually watch parties in bar the worst yeah yeah the worst thing you can do as a head coach is lose a bunch of home games that’s been one of my fun takeaways I mean it’s not any anything revolutionary but just a nice reminder that it could go a long way not to have everybody in section 38 pissed off together feeding each other’s anger so after all those home losses I did have this one as the pour it out game and that’s what we saw early when Auburn jumps out to the big lead but then as you mentioned Auburn blows the big lead Texas A&M comes storming back looks like they’re going to be in control but then Auburn has one last gasp pton Thorne coming out of nowhere with some huge throws and like making it happen with his feet in the final moments and and to be fair I I had I did not get to watch the second third and fourth overtime so in terms of the ultimate plays that decided this game my eyes have been on you and on our conversation so gonna have to tackle that in a pun for the review but um man tough for the a tough scene for the agies it is but it’s also not entirely unexpected because like let’s let’s look at it from Grand perspective from the outside there been a whole lot of talk about like the two lost SEC teams coming into the week that you know we’re vying for a playoff spot and some people thought they should be ranked higher some people were angry that they were ranked higher than some other teams like Alabama was seven all Miss was nine Georgia was 10 Tennessee was 11 then there was Boise State SMU and BYU and who was behind all those teams Texas A&M Texas A&M even though they were also an SEC team with two losses because if you looked closer at their resume they lost to Notre Dame to open the season they got absolutely smoked down the road by South Carolina and the wins over Missouri and LSU kind of have lost luster as the season has worn on so it’s not a complete shock that they lost this game it probably is a killer because I feel like there will still be a three loss SEC team that gets in just because of all the teams that lost today I feel like there’s going to be a spot for him but I like you said about Old Miss I’m pretty confident it won’t be the aies unless they beat Texas next week but I don’t even know if that’s going to be enough to save him at this point so I I I did want to get into that because you know these uh this did happen within the context of the game before we got into the later stages Marcel Reed was bad early in this game you know we talked about it when he came back in for Wegman like this has been the kind of musical cherish thing that A&M’s done all season Once one of them started playing poorly they put the other one in and that he played well but that kind of wears itself out because neither of them are incredible man this final stat line looks better than the way it felt am I am I way off on that ta no he started poorly he played well at the end he played well at the end but at the beginning it was not good yeah he finishes 20 by the way if you’re watching on youtube.com cover3 thanks to uh producer Mike you’s got it on the screen right now he was 22 for 35 297 yards three touchdowns one interception that stat line looks really good MH you know you had what 86 yards on the ground 66 um yeah I don’t this was just a crazy silly game that we sometimes get and the only teams that typically get caught in these crazy silly games are good teams that aren’t necessarily great and Texas A&M is a good team that’s not necessarily necessarily great I’ve got um actually will where will Texas A&M be in tomorrow’s top 25 uh coming up in just a little bit but coming up on the other side chaos in the Big 12 BYU loses again Arizona state with a a sequence to fin yeah a be in Jeopardy here what was your main takeaway from this game how impressive was his domination and that really changed the football game let’s go go ahead and have some warun another wild ending the chaos continues turn to CBS Sports HQ back here on the cover three podcast the results across the Big 12 were everything that Brett ymark promised when he beat the podium and said that this is the most competitive conference in the entire country so number 21 Arizona State takes down number 14 BYU by Five Points unranked Kansas takes down Colorado by 16 points Iowa State goes to Salt Lake City oh and gets caught in a barn burner but escapes by three points 31-28 TCU lurking there in the grass improves to seven and four with a win against Arizona Texas Tech at Oklahoma State a game that I said no thank you two maybe I should go back and watch it was 56 to 48 there were 41 points scored in the fourth quarter I am I I did not see a lick I’m not going to allege it was a good but it wasn’t good football it was it was rookie or freshman level video game football that sounds about right uh West Virginia’s Bowl eligible how about you Neil Brown and uhoh uh oh Gus Malon 31 21 uh Baylor improves to seven and4 and then Kansas state after two straight losses finally gets its mojo back 41- 15 against Cincinnati so that is a a an entire slate of competitive and interesting results but let’s start with Arizona State all right why does this keep happening why do the Sun Devils have all of these like untimed downs and know there was actually one second left on the clock and why did Arizona State bungle the last 50 seconds like why did they not do a better job of being able to not have to say you know what we’re going to do we’re going to run around and throw the ball in the air and hope that the official starts the clock on time so that it expires on this fourth down try listen it’s certainly not the first time in Arizona State student finished prematurely and it will not be the last just I mean it was fun it was crazy it was the big 12 I mean you you mentioned all the scores in this league today that that’s what the big 12 is we really don’t know they released the uh tiebreaker things and I think it’s if there’s the four-way tie at the top like all these teams win next week then it’s Arizona State Iowa State if they all lose it’s Arizona State BYU I I I feel so I guess Arizona state has kind of clinched it I don’t know it’s fun silly stupid football and I feel like the end of the game was just a significance or just kind of reflection of what this league has been but like Arizona State just is genuinely a fun football team like they they’re well coached they have confidence they believe in themselves they have a little Muscle Hamster of running back in cam scabo who’s able to just kind of just pound away at teams he had another typical cam game 28 carries 147 yards three touchdowns and it just Paces everything that they do and it allows their defense to kind of stay refreshed because their defense is not great like they don’t have superstars on it but they’re not bad they’re typically in position they can make plays they’re not going to kill you but keep them s you know keep them from getting fatigued give yourself a chance but even then we saw in the second half BYU kind of started chipping away finally working their way back into the game after being pretty awful on offense in the first half to be completely honest but they made it a game they fought back but like BYU is just they’re the team that they they play a lot of these one score games and the coin flips were going their way every week for the first two months of the season the coin flips stopped going their way the last couple weeks and that’s just how life in the Big 12 is you have to win coin flips and Arizona state has won a lot of coin flips lately BYU hasn’t so according to the tailgate if every in the everyone loses and for context here so Arizona State BYU Iowa State and Colorado are all currently tied with a six and2 Conference record heading into the final week of the Season uh you’ve got Baylor Kansas State TCU and Texas Tech and West Virginia all at five and three one game back that is one two three four five six seven eight nine teams within one game of each other in the conference standings and according to the tailgate and I’m gonna go ahead and trust them there um if Arizona State BYU Iowa State and Colorado all lose it’s Texas Tech against Baylor for the Big 12 title what I mean isn’t that what we should root for then no I want Texas Tech versus Baylor I want this league to be as stupid as possible so let’s see the the win and in scenario I think is Arizona State and Iowa State I believe so based on yes I they control you know what happens Colorado did before its loss but obviously no longer does do you what do you make of Iowa of Arizona State it’s a good football team they’ve got a really good running back they’ve got a solid quarterback they’ve got a good enough defense they’re in the Big 12 it all works that’s really I mean that’s you ask me how any of these big 12 teams are they’re all the same except for Colorado because they have shador and they have Travis but other than that they’re exactly the same as everybody else in that League too they’re all the same team that’s why it’s a fun League that’s why they will only get one team in and that’s why that team will probably get panted okay so that’s it if they’re all the same team they are also all the same team and they step down from everybody else that is looking like they’re going to be in the playoffs you know what no I take that back they won’t there’s no guarantee they’ll get pantsed they might get pantsed but they also depending on the way other teams are looking right now they might get a win are they going to have a buy yeah because whoever wins this league is gonna end up with two losses because there’s the only way to get in is to win out right so and except for the Baylor Texas Tech scenario which will be fun to root for but it’s very unlikely to happen so just logistically the Champion’s going to be 11- two I really don’t think they’re going to put Boise State over an 11-2 Big 12 champion but they might who knows it looked it looked dicey for Boise State today yeah and that’s the thing Boise State’s looked dicey a lot in the last few weeks and when Ashton jenty rolled his ankle or whatever happened and he missed a lot of the third quarter it got really sketchy there for a minute because that is a oneman football team for the most part he missed most of the third quarter but with a season on the line he came back cuz he’s an American hero Ashton Genty all right overlooked by all the instate schools he had to go out to Idaho to find his fortune like Americans who have to go to foreign lands to find their glory is that is that a common American story American success story they found America I left the country I always thought it was the other way around but maybe I misread it I no no no you I I left I left Europe I found America I left Texas I found Idaho same thing so Texas is the Europe of America in this equation I’ve always said that Texas is the it’s our most European state but you’re right I mean they go down early uh Nevada’s dicey they go down early against San Jose State they Trail in this game uh against against Wyoming they’ve got Oregon State the Pack 12 Champs coming up next yeah watch out watch out that’s a Black Friday game with a I guess 10:00 a.m. local time kickoff 1200 PM Eastern I should be back from Madison in time to catch that one no it’s the same time as that game or you leaving after you’re done oh it’s an early game yes it’s at 12: PM oh oh then I won’t see any of it yeah that’s a shame we are excited about Tom heading off to uh to Madison to go be a part of uh cbs’s coverage pregame show for uh the Wisconsin Iowa game did I tell you the weather forecast is it like 28 23 outdoor set baby me and two Florida kids let’s see how we handle it hand warmers baby let’s go I’m gonna go out there in a t-shirt just just to show oh yeah the tough guy move like football players when they’re warming up outside establish dominance yeah that’s I mean that’s the way to do it um let’s talk about some more of the survivals just real quick while we’re talking about Boise um Penn State Minnesota good game fun game much yeah um I mean it’s been a very common theme for Ben State all season they go on the road they start slow they come back in the second half exactly what happened here and I just you know it was really weird at the end of the half I thought they were going to kind of you know they they were about to tie it I thought they were really just gonna put it to bed Minnesota blocks the extra point returns it for the safety goes up three so kind of changed things around but overall like offensively Minnesota just really couldn’t get a whole lot going they had the 281 yards of offense they averaged fewer than five yards per play and if you look at how they scored like as you see a lot of the time opening Drive nine plays 70 yards they didn’t have a possession go longer than 67 the rest of the day and that was the field goal late in the game so it’s just Penn State’s defense was in charge for most of this one its offense was sputtering at times sometimes it looked good the off in the first half they couldn’t run the ball to save their damn lives they figured some things out in the second half kind of took control of the game put together some long clock turning drives and scored points in one and then they also had the fake punt which I mean that’s the other thing too penate had the Special Teams miscues I mentioned the blocked extra point but they also had the weird kind of shanked blocked punt they had the thing where I don’t know if Drew Aller was actually calling for a timeout or not like I it seemed like they were designed to be like this is a fake timeout call and then they were just trying to pretend that it was like oh man damn it I really screwed up like I really do think that it was some Dan Landing stuff they were setting up the fake for later just throw that out there um but just I mean there was a situation you know they went on the road survived a scare got to do that and we see a lot of teams today didn’t and that is in a situation like this because their big 10 hopes are probably minuscule because maybe Michigan upsets Ohio State I doubt it but you have to do that to survive in this setup in this format if you want to get to where you want to get to you you’re going to have these games and you have to come out on top and they did and that’s really the end of the story like I mean just played tight the whole second half you know the the way that the the flow of the game it was just uh it was as though pen State knew the assignment and the assignment was to get out with a win by any any score yeah there there’s not a style points game yeah they don’t need style points they just need a win it’s just a win that’s that’s what I’m saying like Pinn State knowing the assignment is that if we are 11-1 Penn State and our only loss is a close loss to Ohio State we are going to be in a close but I’m sorry go on with we are going to look when you’re trying to slot and Seed these teams on selection Sunday we’re going to look advantageous to get a 5 through eight spot AKA that email blasted out to all the season ticket holders will not be a curse but rather the opportunity to fill Happy Valley and Beaver Stadium with a ton of Penn State fans for what they’ve been waiting for since they won the dagum conference in 2016 and got left out for Ohio State which is a shot at this college football playoff so like like you said I I walk out of it with thumbs up you did it you knew the assignment you did not play a clean game there were a lot of mistakes made but you did enough to get through it and that’s probably where where Penn State needs to be right now I do agree with Bobby ell in the chat Notre Dame should jump Penn State in the rankings this [Music] week okay Dam got the worst loss right but you can argue they have the more impressive wins overall now it’s a good point um let’s let’s get to that here in just a little bit um what about Texas Kentucky Kentucky do that to you man they just try to get you into a wrestling match and for a while they were successful doing so they especi early in the game Texas took control then Quin throws a pick six and it’s just I don’t know man I’m just my relationship with Quinn ERS is it’s in Peril I mean quin’s relationship with his ankles in Peril right now that dude was not moving around well and I mean 20 to 31 for 191 yards I am surprised I’m surprised they did not go to Arch I understand the game was close that might have you know done something to somebody if Quinn said he was okay and going but I I did feel as though they were relying on the run in part because they weren’t sure that Quin Urus was doing a great job back there and that he didn’t have his full balance that he didn’t have his full strength I mean that he was he was hobbled he got he got his ankle rolled up on stayed in the game I will predict either sometime in the A&M game the SEC Championship if they get there assuming they beat A&M or a playoff game we will see Arch Manning and it won’t be because Quinn is hurt and I don’t mean it’ll just be like an arch pack AG I mean Manning we’ve got to do something like The Season’s on the line it’s the postseason it’ll be like a tua Jaylen Herz situation which by the way remember in 2017 Tua replaced Herz in the national championship game but then in 2018 it was Herz replacing Tua to win the SEC title how the to to a tables turn good one this on yeah got it thank you Texas Texas A&M next week who you got I don’t know Texas I guess I guess I guess I don’t know the SEC is like big 12 plus man it’s the big 12 with NFL players it is competitively and like yeah like I’m not saying the SEC is on the same level as the Big 12 as far as how good the teams are the teams are better the league is better it’s just they’re not separated by much like the top eight teams in that League are separated from the bottom eight teams by quite a bit but those top eight teams all really similar who knows m it’s one of the games of the week it’s one of the games of the Season it will be coming up and it’s the next challenge for the Longhorns as they try to secure their position in the SEC Championship game next week yeah let’s do it now coming up on the other side when you go to the birthplace of college football do you respect it or do you stand up for eligible they had played a whole bunch of games with an opportunity to be Bowl eligible and not one Dana hogerson was all it took this Corn Huskers team scores 44 points Wisconsin other side of this is uhoh you know you’re kind of spinning sideways going into the regular season finale but congratulations to Nebraska I did not get to watch a lot of this game specifically but it is obviously very now after a chaotic day I think that’s I think that plays I don’t think Indiana will fall behind Arizona State I don’t think one loss Indiana is falling behind two loss Arizona State yeah you’re probably right IND got help by everybody losing right right we’ve got kind of a high floor I mean in your head you’re gonna be like oh we’re gonna banish Indiana 10 spots but with everything else that happened I it there’s just I’ve got them falling basically into that realm where Miami Boise State and SMU are all there they are all one loss teams that are lacking for a lot of high-end wins because what Indiana is now is a one loss team that is lacking for high-end wins and based on our conversation earlier I’m assuming you have Penn State still at number four with Notre but I I hear your argument that that could end up swapping um I just think that you know Army like we can do the power rating discussion all we want but Army ranked 18th they were undefeated and Notre Dame splattered them so they might get a bump from some voters because of that Georgia you have up to six see um Georgia I have up to six speaking of teams that should be happy with the way the rest of the day went nobody’s gonna talk about you Mass nobody’s going to talk about you Mass doing I mean I understand that in a game like this you’re you’re going to be prone to just kind of relaxing a little bit but UMass ran for 226 yards on you and averaged nearly six yards per carry um so I I agree but you know you know UMass plus 24 and a half in the first half the whole way you know Walts it to the window I you were cashing that ticket when they scored to Wi up seven to nothing um I I just pulled this up on the voting points the tier cut off was kind of between Indiana and Notre Dame so there would be a lot of work a lot of Minds would have had to be changed for to see a swap where Notre Dame jumps up ahead of Penn State which and the what I wrote in the tomorrow’s top 25 story was sometimes on a day where all these other teams are losing in very similar spots the fact that you were the top team that did not can stand make you stand out little a little bit more yeah um so let’s see Georgia up to six uh everybody else kind of moves up in order as I mentioned Arizona State makes a jump from 21 to 12 that’s got them ahead of Clemson you know best win for the Tigers might be pit you’ve got some room to move up but that’s a know it’s a it’s It’s Tricky Tricky to be able to grab on to you know good wins yeah you’re moving up but it’s not for anything you did correct I mean obviously they played the Citadel um but behind Clemson is where I’ve got Alabama and Old Miss falling Alabama’s win against South Carolina as Alabama ol Miss and South Carolina all three lost teams uh Texas A&M as well some of those head-to-head results fit uh Alabama ahead of Old Miss as both teams lost on the road both teams as double digit favorites and if the same AP Top 25 voters had Alabama 7 and Old Miss 9 they ain’t going to change that order when they drop all those teams down so I’ve got them landing around that 14 to 18 type range which will then take you into two lane then BYU uh just ahead of Iowa State UNLV Illinois Missouri and then uh Kansas State and I’ve got Army still in right now o Colorado might be near the cut but they’re going to be behind Kansas State Memphis is your other option right there it’s it’s kind I mean we are at the time of the year where when you get to that bottom five in there there’s it’s bleak there’s going to be some mid ass teams in there I mean Syracuse did win Lille did win and then that’s it like that’s those are those are the teams based on last week’s voting who are going to get a look so I think that those o of those teams what are you g to do like Army has one loss I think they’ll end up on enough ballots to be able to stay inside the top 20 five not saying they don’t deserve to not saying I wouldn’t but I do tell you right now there will be voters who look at their resume and say they’ve played one good team and they lost by 35 I understand what happened when navy lost there will also be voters who say I think Notre Dame’s awesome and you lost to Notre Dame the same way that everybody else loses to Notre Dame all the people who say the Notre never mind not going to make that joke not going to make that joke um Al also to be fair if Washington State doesn’t lose the Pack 12 Championship to Oregon State then Army’s not ranked but it’s just you open up that spot trying to you know make decisions there I I I decided Army was the pick but there are a number of teams that could land there um I I didn’t get a chance to get late night CW action for Oregon state Washington State it was a fun game but I saw some I saw Pack 12 refs are back finally and know it was a it was a fun it was a it was pack it did they did Pack 12 after dark some justice I look forward to checking that one out tomorrow um it was for Oregon State much needed been a bad year started fun and went to [ __ ] yeah um okay so let’s see what else let’s work in um some reverse order here Miami never doubt fourth quarter Miami what a way to cover boys I mean what was that score at the end of three oh it was 20 to 14 yeah like that game yeah it was 20 to 14 at halftime nobody scored in the third quarter and then in the fourth quarter Miami piles on 22 points including two touchdowns and all three touchdowns were in the last eight minutes so it was still 20 to 14 with eight minutes to play and then Miami goes on and covers the what 24 and a half whatever it finished at still went under it did go under but just it’s like why why can’t you guys treat the first quarter like the fourth I it was noon it I don’t care M do you know how many noon games Miami has got I mean this is just off the top of my head oh here come the Ohio State fans how many noon games does Miami have to play yeah exactly because guess what the acc’s best opportunity to break through right now is with that like noon ESPN slot and you’re Miami you got to go do it go win one for the Gipper um let’s see uh North Carolina crapped the bed in Chestnut Hill they did not did they did not look like they were having fun at all Mack announc did Mac announce an extension for himself afterwards you know it’s a it’s a fine statement to have right after that meet the standard of App State football and you were playing at home where you had strung together a couple wins but they were against the worst teams in the conference James Madison is not the best team in the conference but they are one of the good teams so for them to come to the Rock and for you to be able to get the win that was a that was a good one that was that was one that was much needed for App State much needed for uh for head coach Sean Clark uh what other results do you want to shout out or turn attention to before we hit the Break um I mean off top let’s see South Carolina big win over wer no um SMU not hitting that team total over for you I know that bothered you yeah I mean it it wasn’t a lock on the show but when you’re on the positive side of Illinois minus one so out to Cal getting their sixth win of the Season by beating Stanford in the game that’s a great way to do it Mikey do you have Fernando Mendoza’s um Jeff Fernando Mendoza’s post game oh let’s see yes let’s do it play it 21 at the of theth quarter what did it take to come back hey first of all I want to give all the glory to God that was an amazing comeback it’s a testament to Y A Team I love my boys it’s amazing I’m so proud of every team we’re 6 to6 we’re B bound and we retain the axe go be forever let’s go you are so emotional right now Fernando In This Moment what’s bringing out these tions for you we worked so hard we worked so hard for this I apologize for get emotional but it’s so hard we’ve as an offense we’ve done everything that we possibly could have throughout the summer to being down having a close game this has to be the most special moment in my life today look around at these fans at this moment what will you remember most from this Victory today I remember going 98 yards my boys 98 yards at that moment we told him this is why we did the camping trip this is why we did every Saturday walk through it’s we stayed late until 9:00 p.m. watching film together and so that meant so much to me to go 98 yards I gu the defense has been playing great and we ended up scoring in the clutch Fernand you told us yesterday you just want to hold that ax so go hold that ax and enjoy this thank you go Bears let’s go all right two things first off remember that next time somebody tells you both season is meaningless yeah and rivalries or whatever two you’re six and five Fernando so I guess we should take SMU against the spread next week because he said we’re six and six Fernando Mendoza led a 98 yard touchdown drive to win the game they mentioned it was 21 to1 at the start of the fourth quarter Cal runs off two touchdown drives in the fourth to win hit Bowl eligibility we talked about Cal all those losses in ACC play almost all of them were close you know some Heartbreakers along the way and yeah and like some guys in the tailgate said it and you mentioned you know remember that interview when you talk about bowl season but that Fernando Mendoza ain’t going to be no first round pick Fernando Mendoza’s not get tampered with right now Fernando Mendoza and that moment right there is like some pure uncut like P good college football stuff right there he might be getting tampered with right now but not by other teams I’ll also say we can’t play it on the show because we it’s personal but Danny sent us a very similar video after Florida State’s big win today to do wins on the SE Danny just balling his eyes out after Florida state with that 41 to7 win over Charleston Southern just feeling real good about himself um yeah I mean football guy right there somebody just they just loved pouring it in with the boys what are you gonna remember going 98 yards with the boys with the boys who else would you want to go 98 yards with who else would you want to go 98 yards with but with the boys the boys speaking of the boys Iowa’s fifth string walk-on quarterback Jackson Stratton leading him to a 29-13 win by pretty much just running a triple option on Maryland Billy Edwards got hurt in that game kind of really threw everything in the gutter for Maryland uh but Iowa’s big win for them on the road because it’s been a tough week for them a lot of weird stuff coming out of Iowa City bad vibes bad vibes but feels good for them to get that win and then East Carolina man haven’t lost since firing the coach got the players going online talk about how they want to keep their inim they want to stay they don’t need to have a coaching search I don’t know if the school will listen because I think if you look at the current landscape of open jobs right now it’s a very good argument to be made that East Carolina is currently the best available gig so I don’t know but we know what the players want then uh anything else really stick out to you today Georgia Tech NC State was brutal I mean it was a cursed game from the beginning for the wolf pack but you come storming back from the early deficit you take the lead and then you just you blow it late yeah that was on Thursday night for those of you who were getting confused right now um yeah that was a really fun game though as long as you didn’t have a single kind of rooting interest in either one of these teams that was an that was a perfect Thursday night ACC football game yep just enough stupid to be stupid but also excitement and crazy kind of drama they they trotted out that freaky ass formation and it got turned into a touchdown the other way at the very beginning they sent all the linemen out lined up like wide receivers and then it went South I mean there could not have been a better snapshot if you were an NC State fan that would like to see a change in your offensive coaching staff the way that that first touchdown of the game for Georgia Tech was a was a too cute special one more thing that I want to get in before we go all right we talked about it a little bit in texts didn’t talk about the game much Kansas beats Colorado oh crap we didn’t talk about the game the low hit on shador not gonna get into a debate whether it was intentional or not because I think it’s besides the point what pisses me off is if a player makes that hit on your quarterback and nobody on that Colorado offensive line kicked his ass they went to 10 to their QB who was down and in pain and that’s fine but somebody on that offensive line needs to go after that guy I don’t care if you get the personal foul that pissed me off more than the hit I hope Phil Lo Hol lays into those guys this week hold on let me pull this up this is a really good note um so the right now on Kansas the current pun I mean I mean it’s not that crazy because one of the things that’s been happening throughout all of college football um is and it’s been happening for a while you know everyone goes and they they have found the um the Australian punter pipeline okay so according to our friend Max Olsen he’s with the athletic he’s back with the ESPN uh now Damon Greaves the Kansas punter had his family make the trip from Australia to Arrowhead Stadium he didn’t punt [Laughter] because in this game you want to know how Colorado blew it their inroad to the Big 12 title they couldn’t get one dagum stop here are the Kansas drives touchdown field goal touchdown field goal field goal touchdown touchdown end of game Damon Greaves family broke out their passports and they didn’t get to see their pun they didn’t get to see their sweet ay punter swing that strong leg once yeah but at least they got to see Kansas City in late November who wh amongst us doesn’t want to be they got to leave Australia in the middle of their summer to come see Kansas City in the middle of its late fall just I mean who wouldn’t make that trade in a heartbeat yeah Kanas City’s a nice city yeah I I when when Max pointed that out I I Adore thank you Max um I I appreciate great great facto great note um but yeah that’s like Kansas was cooking you know every time they interviewed Lance he was like I I like I like our balance we got him run we got him pass we got him off B you know like we we we got him we got him chasing it you know they just they they knew from the moment this game started you know very first possession right down the field 73 yards and six plays and you say they are just chasing it right now um great great game plan great execution um J Jayhawks continue to be giant killers and Colorado which looked like it had improved in a lot of ways defensively just didn’t have it with only the two of us here I haven’t really been able to pay as much attention to the games going on did you realize Fresno’s up 28 to7 on Colorado State yes that’s good news for Boise and unlb yeah that that could have it this could have a pretty decent impact on things um also UCLA just went up 13 to n not great for anybody with USC minus four and a half in their locks that’s for sure hey do you know who went 16 and six with their locks this week by the way Tom forelli that’s right six picks away from a million dollars ah well maybe next time so let’s see am I let me count them up you’re seven and eight no who not yet be seven and eight yeah yeah yeah no that’s that was what I was thinking in my head I was like I just need to have USC either make me eight and seven or seven and eight CU I didn’t want USC to like need to save the day you know no nobody ever needs you nobody ever needs that you do not want to be in that position you do not want to be in that position where it’s like okay all I need is for USC to meet expectations that’s a horrible position to be in so um lots to get to
