podcast for free the Dallas Mavericks are one of the hottest teams in the NBA after turning around what was a slow five and seven starts to winning 11 out of their last 12 games putting themselves in position at the time of our conversation here to be eight games above 500 and having won two out of every three games to be 16 and eight on the season a team that’s looking to get back to the NBA finals like they did a seasons ago has put the rest of the NBA on notice that they are to be taken seriously when it comes to that quest to defend its Western Conference Championship and it is now officially NBA trade rumor season and the Dallas Mavericks are already in conversations when it comes to some players around the league particularly one in South Beach and a team that the Mavericks are very familiar with when it comes to competing for NBA championships I’m talking of course about the Miami Heat and 35-year-old star Jimmy Butler who is a native of Houston Texas apparently is open to moving to a win Now situation according to ESPN’s sham shiria and the Heat are open to trade requests and conversations with other teams about their 35-year-old star Butler course taking the Miami Heat to two NBA Finals 0 and2 in those appearances against the Lakers and the Nuggets a guy that’s $ 49 million this year and has an option to be paid $52 million in 2526 a Mavericks team that’s got the deal with some Financial commitments of their own when it comes to Kyrie Irving and a new contract for him coming up this next summer and Luca dones of course is going to be getting his super max contract at the end of this season as well but for the Mavericks the fact that they are in these conversations for a guy and Jimmy Butler who had named not only the Mavericks but the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets as destinations potential destinations for him and his next stop and Jimmy Butler who is averaging 19 points per game shooting a near career high 56% from the field has really played well well as of late for Miami but for the Dallas Mavericks to be involved in these conversations shows that the perception of the organization has changed let’s think about it Klay Thompson decided that the Mavericks were a destination spot to try and help him win his fifth Championship after he saw what the Mavericks weren’t able to do against the Celtics and shooting the three ball well Klay Thompson thinking you know what I can help the Dallas Mavericks to be able to have the kind of shooting it needs to go alongside Luca Don and KY Irving to potentially get over the hump and compete against teams like the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals Nico Harrison the president of basketball operations and the general manager making shrewd moves to go get a Naji Marshall to replace a guy in Derek Jones Jr unloaded Tim Hardway Jr to get a Quinton Grimes who has been really good for the Mavericks so far this year a Nico Harrison that has been willing to take swings at the trade deadline each and every year that he’s been here to improve this team including getting Kyrie Irving and while it has worked out perfectly for Dallas taking Kyrie Irving away from the Nets was a risk especially when you moved on from a fan favorite and Dorian finy Smith but all the things for the most part that the Mavericks have done from a trade standpoint and a player acquisition standpoint have turned into gold when you start looking at what the assets are of the Mavericks currently yes they’re a little bit below that first tax apron that we are always looking at now is when it comes to teams and their finances they do have their 2025 first round pick they also have their 2031 first round pick as well to potentially move in a trade but it’s going to take heavy and I mean heavy compensation to even think about acquiring a Jimmy Butler and if you’re a Mavericks fan do you want to move a Kyrie Irving do you want to move a PJ Washington do you want to move a Naj Marshall or others even a maxi CA who yes has been maligned offensively but still provides defensive of Versatility from this team and has somewhat of a decent contract when you think about what he still owed for the Dallas Mavericks maybe teenss aren’t necessarily keen on taking that Maxi kba contract off the Maverick’s hands whatever iteration or trade combination that you put together it’s going to be significant to try and acquire a Jimmy Butler which is why when you look at the rumors when it comes to Butler potentially coming to Dallas Mavericks here’s how I look at it the perception and the way that the Mavericks are viewed around the league has changed drastically over the last couple of years which is massive for its future no longer are the Mavericks not considered a destination spot to try and win an NBA championship but guys who have come here whether it be Kyrie Irving through trade whether it be Klay Thompson and others they now view this place as a team that has an open window for years to come because of its Superstar and Luca donic who has been one of the five best players in the NBA each of the last five years now teaming alongside Kyrie Irving to expand what is a championship window for the Dallas Mavericks and that is what you and I need to really focus in on here is that the Mavericks from now on whether it was the acquisition of Kyrie Irving Klay Thompson or others and then last year of course acquiring PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford at the trade deadline to raise the ceiling of this team where they went 16-2 in their most meaningful games to make that run to the NBA finals taking out the Clippers and the Thunder and the Timberwolves to get there this is a team that’s got a lot of guys with a lot of talent who understand their role who are playing for a coach that knows how to get the most out of them and that is a positive sign for the Mavericks in what their future begins to look like because you have to start thinking about extension eligible guys like a PJ Washington like a Daniel Gafford as well who are earning opportunities to be with this team long term Jimmy Butler doesn’t necessarily seem to be a fit and Jimmy Butler has to realize at this stage in his career that he’s not the man anymore and if he’s looking for opportunities to go to win now places with established players especially when you look at Golden State and obviously with the Dallas Mavericks maybe Jimmy Butler realizes that his time as a primary star in this league is up and he can be a contributor to a team that can win a championship but from a basketball standpoint don’t necessarily see the fit here Jimmy Butler has to have the ball in his hands quite a bit in order to make things happen and when you’ve got LCA Don and Kyrie Irving who command the attention of the basketball as much as they do could yes Luca Don and Kyrie Irving make it work yes but how much would you have to sacrifice in order to make that happen I don’t think the tradeoff is necessarily worth it but the overarching point that I want us to take away from our conversation here today is that the Mavericks will continue to be involved with names around the league because they are one of the teams that are viewed as a title Contender not just for this year but for for years to come and that is a welcome sign if you’re a Mavericks fan about not only the aggressiveness of their general manager when it comes to n Harrison but his willingness to take those moves and turn them into fantastic ones that have led this team to success and how other guys around the league believe that Nico Harrison and Jason kid have the formula along with their Superstars to continue to compete for NBA titles that ladies and gentlemen is a breath of fresh air when it comes to the Mavericks and the relationships that Nico Harrison and Jason kid have around the league make the Mavericks any kind of contender make them a serious player when it comes to some of the biggest names around the league and that was the reason when the Mavericks brought in Nico Harrison to begin with to expand their relationship pool with the players that could potentially pair alongside Luca DOD and Kyrie Irving and others to be able to win championships and so far it’s working out to me Butler the latest to think hey maybe I can go help Mavericks team potentially win a championship I don’t necessarily see it as a fit right now but there could be someone else maybe a herb Jones maybe a Larry Nance Jr someone else who could help supplement what the Mavericks already have to make them that much better as they move forward but all of this conversation means that your Mavericks will be the Talk of the Town in in conversations throughout the NBA trade rumor season
