so I would like to State the obvious at the beginning of this video but no matter which player the Yankees sign it is not going to be a one SoDo caliber player all the comments about oh he’s not SoDo who cares it’s not sto just stop and realize that the Yankees are making moves with Devin Williams Max freed and they are currently in trade talks with the Cubs regarding Cody Bellinger there is one player however that is kind of going under the radar that is still a free agent and at the age of 30 Anthony Tander is coming off a 44 home run season with the Baltimore Orioles and reportedly is Seeking a 5year $88 million deal give or take and on paper that sounds really good a guy hit 44 home runs last year he’s 30 years old he’s not looking for ridiculous amounts of money a switch hitter who has comparable stats from both sides of the plate obviously had a lot more left-handed and he’s able to play first base so what exactly has been the holdup here well if you look at it he’s only played 12 games at first base his entire career he does have an above average throwing arm but he is definitely a below average Fielder spent a lot of time at DH as well and we kind of have a DH that plugs that spot in Jean Carlos ston so making room for another player that’s going to need to play the field every day you would preferably want somebody that is average or above average at that position and not somebody that’s only played one game at first base in 2024 and 13 his entire career offensively though the last three years 2022 33 home runs a 240 batting average in an Ops of 773 2023 28 home runs 257 batting average in Ops a 797 2024 44 home runs 235 and 814 Ops outside of being a really good hitter being a negative Defender is definitely a reason why the Yankees have not been going after him as intensely as some people might have expected yes Pete Alonzo is not that great of a Defender either but he has a lot more experience at first base than just 13 games and as for Roki sazaki everyone still waiting on news of him I would love for him to come to the Yankees but I really think that’s a long long shot hey but anything is possible what do you think when does a move happen this is Darren with grunt baseball I will talk to you guys later [Music] oh
