we’ve seen some legendary first pitches from the perspective of raw velocity including those from Maran Riva Colin Kaepernick noan Ryan and Russell Wilson twice but while all of these were extremely impressive especially in my opinion the Rivera and Ryan ones none of them broke 90 mph in fact it used to seem ridiculous to even believe cracking this lofty Mark was possible for something like a ceremonial first pitch it for no other reason than the usual lack of prep time and the fact that most people just don’t take it very seriously but let me tell you right now retired Hall of Fame Legend ich r’s Suzuki was never like other people and he most certainly wasn’t known for taking things lightly back before the opening night game at T-Mobile field in 2022 icho Str out to the mound in a full uniform for his first pitch this was an obvious clue that we were in for something special which he would deliver seconds later on this absolute missile that was apparently clocked at 94 mph yeah he skipped all the way past 90 and almost climbed into the mid90s and well yes he was a pitcher back in his amateur days and even managed to make an appearance in an npb All-Star Game this was still insanely impressive and unexpected especially considering the fact that he had actually pitched in an MLB game 8 years earlier and had only topped out at 88.4 mph since this first pitch he’s continued pitching once in a while most notably in exhibition games versus high school girls where he allegedly still gets up into the mid 80s at times regardless I personally think this record which admittedly isn’t tracked very closely of 94 mph on a first pitch could stand for many years to come as somebody would now need to break the 95 Mark a number that’s considered fairly fast for an actual MLB pitcher needless to say that just doesn’t seem very likely
