sure to make us your first listen of the day so let’s start with the Anaheim Ducks prospects that are in the system itself that are in the NHL um with I mean the conversation really starts with cutter go who’s been pretty good this year um playing his rookie season in the NHL he’s up to 12 points four goals and eight assists in 30 games with the Ducks and he slowly but Sur find finding his footing you know he’s a he’s a prospect who you know I I initially assumed was going to take a bit more time to get up to NHL speed and we saw that the start of the Year took him a while to get his first NHL goal but once he scored his first NHL goal feels like the floodgates kind of open with go he got a lot more comfortable on Puck a lot more comfortable um carrying the puck up the ice himself making plays himself um you know most of his time in the in the NCAA and even getting back to his ntdp year uh he was mainly the passenger on his line um you know scoring a lot of goals creating a lot of chances but mainly relying on his teammates to carry the puck up the ice to create those transition chances um then benefiting from it starting in the neutral zone so you get the puck at the red line uh drop the shoulder Drive the net do all the things that he can do as a as a big body as a power forward um but slowly but surely this year has gotten more and more comfortable carrying the puck up the ice himself making those plays himself and his teammates are benefiting um you know he’s been playing on and off with the flex of vrono and stro and and color um you know even at times of try Terry and tum shift so uh the bigger names in the team um with the with the Anaheim Ducks um he’s been mainly playing with also spent some time with Mason McTavish like he’s he’s been pretty much all over the place lineups wise and that’s normal when it comes to a rebuilding team that’s struggling to uh win a bunch of games uh you’ll rarely see a lot of consistency in terms of line Mapes in in those situations but karoi is making the most of it right now uh still a phenomenal shooter still a great playmaker um a guy who can who can find teams who can create especially on the power play a very effective offensive Creator and he’s honed in his defensive game over the years it’s still not up to NHL speed um you know he’s he’s in the bottom end of the lineup in terms of plus minus but I think that’s more with the usage and the ice time um than it has to do with his actual abilities I think once all said and done kuroi is developed and adapted to the NHL Pace I think he’s going to be one of the better uh two-way players on this roster um and the Ducks are well placed in terms of where they’re going to end up in a few years we’re talking about you know cutter go not being the only uh kind of young player on this roster who’s developing you also have Mason McTavish who’s been playing great hockey recently he’s also up to 12 points but he he has him in 24 games uh we all know by now what Mason McTavish can bring to the game he’s got an elite shot um very very smart player reads the game incredibly well he can um chip in defensively he can can make some offensive plays um really impact the game in all three zones so with him it’s not really a surprise I mean it’s it’s mainly what we what we’ve come to expect from Mavish great offensive Creator um and and can make some plays at a high level so I’m really happy to see his progression I wasn’t really a believer in M McTavish in his draft year um but at the same time it was a shorten Co year he was playing over he was playing pro overseas in a lower tier League um and the viewings I got were a bit iffy but I’m really glad that the Anaheim Ducks saw the vision with McTavish and drafted him a third overall in his draft year because since then he’s proven himself to be a hot commodity in that draft class um a very very good player very reliable consistent strong powerful player um who can make high-end plays so I’m I’m very very happy with the way his progression has gone and he’s a learning experience for me um you know like you know not relying too much on what the player is right now but what they’re able to do at higher levels what they’re going to be able to become uh is is a big part of scouting and that was one of my early kind of hurdles uh which I’ve I’ve learned to overcome through uh the experience that that um my my kind of failure to identify amesa McTavish as a high Prospect was uh but moving on to Leo Carlson who’s also been pretty good 11 points and 24 games six goals five assists um he’s still progressing he’s still growing his iin still fluctuating uh but what’s for sure with Leo Carlon you have a reliable playmaker you know he’s very good at stringing together plays identifying seams hitting them hard um you know don’t be folded by the statue the six goals and five assists he’s still a phenomenal playmaker and he’s getting a lot of his goals in in uh in translatable ways he’s not just shooting from distance or making these low event low percentage plays um he’s really honing in on his ability to make NHL plays and that’s really good when it comes to Carlson because when you look back at his draft year at his draft plus one year the year that he that he spent with the Anaheim Ducks um his rookie season you’re looking at his plays and you’re thinking okay you know this is a very smart player clearly he can identify these teams um but he’s still relying on some kind of external plays some peripheral plays in order to to be effective but now Leo Carlson’s become this really efficient really um translatable player who was able to um read the game at an NHL level I think that has a lot to do with the way he was deployed in his in his rookie season he wasn’t playing 10 minutes every night he was playing 15 to 20 minutes every every night and a half right you know we skipping a game um but when he when he was in the lineup he was playing highend minutes and I think that’s a really smart way to go about with this development and I think teams should take a good look at what the Anaheim have been able to do with Le Carlson and the way that he’s developed given the usage that he was uh deployed in and see that as a kind of template to build their development um structures off of right you know you don’t need to play a prospect every night especially when they’re coming from a league where they play 30 to 40 games uh in a season going straight to the NHL where they have to play 82 it’s not going to be easy they’re not going to be consistent every night so getting them up the speed slowly but surely playing them 45 50 55 games um in their rookie year and their sophomore year I think is a great way to kind of get them up to speed NHL wise um there’s also a bunch of other really interesting prospects in the NHL for the Ducks right now I think the most of which is Olen zwagger uh he’s been a great find uh so far this year he’s been phenomenal at the NHL level a fantastic um offensive defenseman who’s been able to produce from the Blue Line fairly well he’s got 10 points this season on a team that’s been kind of struggling to produce at a high level but what’s really interesting with zeler is just how refined his offensive game is the way that he sees the is just absolutely phenomenal he identifies secondary and tertiary passing options where he can slip a pass under a stick to a trailer uh he can hit a seam cross ice there’s so many different ways that he can produce and make plays at an NHL level and that’s really kind of deployed at its best on the power play but he’s still an efficient mover he’s still an efficient defenseman as well he’s able to um defend the rush he’s able to stifle plays down low he is still an undersized is defenseman uh that comes with its hurdles less reach less phys iCal dominance but he compensates for that with really highend Mobility really highend defensive stick work as well so I’m really really impressed with the way this eler developed so far and he looks like a Bonafide NHL or a Bonafide top four uh offensive defenseman is going to be impacting the Anaheim Ducks lineup four years to come he’s kind of stepped into that Jamie Dale hole that was left and filled it perfectly so I’m really happy with the he he’s progressed as well Pavo mikov in the same boat as well is a fantastic defens me he’s basically established at this point played as rookie year last year but did not look at all uh like a rookie for the Anaheim Ducks he’s been decent so far this year as well um you know Miss some time I believe uh with some sort of injury but he’s back six points in 26 games it’ll take some time to get up to speed especially with a team like this that doesn’t really produce that many points nightly um it’s going to be interesting to see him kind of develop but he’s very very reliable very very solid I love him as a prospect he was in my top 10 by far in his draft gear and he’s perfectly right every step of the way he’s been phenomenal uh lastly last player I want to highlight is Lucas doel uh he’s 24 yes but he’s a goalie still technically a prospect at that age uh absolutely phenomenal this year he’s been one of the best goalies in the NHL this year um 920 safe percentage on this team is not easy uh and he’s been doing it wonderfully I’ve watched him a couple times just G way so impressed with his reflex his his mobility in the crease um his technique his composure there’s so many things to work with there with doel um and he’s looking a Bonafide NHL starting goenda with his progression there um and you know obviously goalies R Voodoo but you look at his progression going from the Czech pro league to Liga to the AHL to the NHL just dominating every step of the way um and you wonder how he fell to the third round in his draft year but again go Voodoo there’s no way to predict but that’s our first segment done we’ll get into our second segment here where we talk about the a Prospect so the the defenseman the the plethora defenseman the ducks have in their system along with some forwards there but before we get into any of that a quick word from a sponsors at prize picks and select quote today’s episode is sponsored by prize picks if you love sports you’re going to love prize picks the best so moving on to the AHL guys in the Anaheim Duck system we’ll first talk about the four major names major is names in terms of defens that they have playing in the AHL right now first and foremost Tristan luno who’s already played NHL minutes this season and last year has mainly been playing with the San Diego gos down in the AHL his production hasn’t been all that good seven points in 16 games so far this year but uh missed some major time last year with an injury uh had to come back this year and kind of get up to speed so I’m expecting that to keep kind of creeping up in terms of production as he uh kind of readapt to uh playing pro hockey um for for a major span of time I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see tristano in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks fairly soon uh it’s I think it’s just basically a conditioning stint that’s been extended mainly because he doesn’t have to be sent down for conditioning he’s W waiver exempt um based on his contract but yeah tan no is really really good I’ve I’ve liked him pretty much since day one I had some spans in his draft year where I was a bit more doubtful about his projection but overall he’s reliable he’s smart he makes great breakout passes he he’s he’s really good at controlling plays um that that’s really what he does so with L know being able to get him up to back up to NHL speed uh and then pushing him gradually up the lineup is a good idea I think that the Ducks are doing the right thing here by letting him marinate him in the AHL get back up to speed before pulling him up um and yeah I’m a big fan of his game right shot defenseman um very very smart good defensively good offensively brings a bit of both at both ends of the ice so I don’t think he’s going to be with the goals for long uh moving on to rodwin Diono who has six points in 13 games so far on the season but has been a healthy scratch in his last nine games apparently from what I’ve heard his attitude issues I think he got in a fight on the bench after having a pretty bad shift uh in his last game before these uh the span of healthy scratches listen attitude’s one thing um but getting on a fight in the bench that that doesn’t look good uh for Diono but if you look at the skill set he’s massive um skating is a bit clunky but still still able to move around and make plays um great defensively aggressive def defenseman offensively gifted I mean we saw that last year with the sagon off Spirit after he got traded there um just he’s able to take control of a game and just dominate uh from one end of the ice to the other um very comfortable on Puck very comfortable off puck in terms of where to be how to defend um and yeah just reeling in that aggression is going to be kind of the next thing with with diano just getting used to the uh to the uh kind of playing poker on the ice knowing when to go all in knowing when to fold kind of showing a bit more composure a bit more uh selectiveness with when he pinches when he uh he activates offensively I think it’s going to be the next step but obviously he needs to play to do that and if you’re being scratched for nine games straight in the AHL well obviously you’re not playing which isn’t good for your development um so I’m hoping this kind of gets resolved with Theo fairly soon because he definitely has a skill to become an NHL it’s just a matter of um reeling in that that passion a tiny bit um moving on to uh Tyson Hines who’s been pretty phenomenal in the AHL it’s not prod it’s got four points in 20ish games but that’s not what Tyson Hines does Tyson Hines defends the rush you know boxes out hard at the net front um you know plays in zone defense really well and breaks out Pucks in simple but effective ways uh that’s been pretty much what he’s been so far with with the San San Diego goals so far this year um let me just pull up the actual statute yeah four points 24 games got 12 pen penalty minutes um this is a simplistic but very effective defensive defenseman uh the Ducks are very very good good at picking out of the queue uh they do it time and time again they’re exploiting the uh well the market in efficiency when it comes to drafting a lot of teams seem a bit more hesitant to draft out of the queue um especially in the last couple of years I think that might change this year but overall Tesson Hines has been effective he’s he was phenomenal in the queue and um he’s slowly but surely getting used to the AHL game and uh I’m sure the points will come eventually it’s just don’t be surprised if they don’t because that’s just not Tyson hein’s game he’s an effective shutdown defenseman and he’s been exactly that so far speaking of which qmj shut down defenseman my brain instantly goes to Noah Warren who’s also an Anheim Ducks Prospect he’s got one point of 23 games which tracks um not a big producer he’s still fairly raw but he’s big he’s mobile he’s able to defend the rush he’s aggressive he’s great positionally as well in his own Zone um identifies threats really well when it comes to kind of switching in coverage in the defensive Zone when it comes to inzone structural box defending um very very effective player I listen he’s got a point in 23 games I can’t give him too many too many flowers but uh I still expect that Noah Warren will take a bit more time to get up to NHL level production and you know production in the AHL has a lot to do to do with usage and when it comes to Warren and Hinds I think both of them are in a boat where they’re starting a lot in the defensive Zone playing number four number five minutes um among defensemen in this in this group don’t expect them to produce all that much this year but I think both of them have a shot at being outside shot maybe but a decent shot at being Bonafide NHL defenseman I’m not talking number six7 defenseman I’m talking number four five defenseman in the NHL um they have the defensive skill set for it for sure and again the Ducks love these guys and they’re really good at picking them so I think there’s a chance of both of them now where it gets a bit more disappointing on the forward side I mean we can start with nation Nat GOI who’s been really disappointing so far this year he’s got five points in 25 games hasn’t been producing all that much and hasn’t been effective really um so far with the San Diego goals he’s still an NHL Prospect was drafted in the first round like two years ago but sums up there I think that there needs to be some sort of progression in his ability to produce especially at this level and if he can’t produce at this level I have a hard time visiting him being able to produce at higher levels he’s one of the so far he’s been one of the rare misses of the U Anaheim Ducks when it comes to drafting out of the queue still a great goal scor he’s got a big body he’s able to push through um Defenders he’s able to get around their sticks off the rush and kind of get shots off in which is basically what what his kind ofl has been for the past couple years uh but outside of that I don’t really think his in inzone offensive sense is that good um he he really needs to work on that I think that’s kind of the main development objective for him is just getting more versatile offensively creating in more ways um still a good forward still a good Prospect I think that with the body with shot he’s able to get something done you just reminds me a lot of um Nolan foot uh who played in the um who played in the uh new New Jersey Devil system still hasn’t really established himself as a Bonafide NH so that gives me a bit of worry but we’ll see how it goes with Nathan go there’s a couple other prospects I want to mention here in the AHL Sam Colangelo is at a point per game he had an he had an NHL stint earned that as a result of his production in the AHL um his development’s been interesting uh he’s still a very um very versatile offensive player he’s able to pass he’s able to shoot he’s able to dangle he’s got all that in a skill set um decent speed uh decent overwhelming offensive sense as well um but in the NHL it’s not really kind of jelling that well I think it has more to do with chemistry than anything so it give him a bit of time but Sam Colangelo is the name to keep an eye on he’s been uh he’s been great this year in the AHL uh eor sidorov is also in that boat um in the AHL he’s a phenomenal shooter and I think that’s going to stay the Cornerstone of his game no matter where he plays scored 50 goals last year in the WHL um so far this year producing decently but not overwhelmingly I mean he’s got what is it points in 24 games eight goals nine assists um he can do better than that I know that for for a fact I think he’s going to score uh a decent uh amount of goals in the AHL before he moves on to the NHL I I don’t think he’s a guy that’s GNA get called up right away um but uh I mean wiad dorov is just you need more than a release to be effective in the NHL they can’t name me many players who are great Shooters and average everywhere else to play in the NHL but uh he’s a fairly interesting Prospect to keep a name on uh to keep an eye on um last lastly SAS Sasha PV he’s a prospect I was a big fan of inish draft here I was glad to see that the um that the Anaheim Ducks had pick him up he’s got four goals in 11 games so far this year in the AHL but played a decent stin in the ECHL before getting called up he’s still getting used to the AHL Pace but I think it’s just a matter of time uh before it gets up to speed on that side and that’s our second segment done we’ll get into our second segment here where we talk about the guys uh that are outside of the NHL in the AHL Beck at Senus Stan soberg Ethan precis a lot of names coming up just hold on before we get into that a quick word from our sponsors at FanDuel get ready to tackle the NFL action with FanDuel America’s number one sports book because segment we’ll be talking about the guys that are outside of the NHL and AHL rosters for the Anaheim Ducks the other prospects to have in the system first and foremost the conversation starts with Becka senica he has been absolutely phenomenal so far this year uh in uh oshaa uh in the OHL 46 points so far on the season he’s been absolutely great to watch um got a late call up after an injury uh to the two Team Canada World Juniors roster and then was was cut like two days later uh but regardless I think that Becca senica is one of the best prospects in the OHL absolutely phenomenal dangler he’s still one of the best um pure skill players in the OHL uh and there’s a reason he was pied third overall I think it had a lot to do with needs when it comes to the Anaheim Ducks system they needed a right shot forward uh and Bea Seno was the best one available um even at third overall uh and he was an easy pick uh at that point but so far he’s progressed really really well still a phenomenal dangler but he’s added a lot more Shooters mindset to his game he’s been a lot more comfortable releasing the puck um whether it’s on the power play at four on four five on five the penalty kill you name it is shooting in every scenario um but he’s not doing it at the expense of playmaking opportunities he’s not um he’s not ignoring his teammates and just shooting from everywhere he’s really gotten extremely good at knowing when to shoot when to pass I think that’s a very important skill skill set to have as you climb the ranks and try to become a pro uh being able to understand here’s where I need to pass here’s where I need to shoot um and and still being able to show a bit more of a Shooter’s mindset in the sense that you have an opportunity where you could delegate um but a shot is also a good uh a good chance it’s not something that you’re doing despite structures or despite what’s in front of you it’s just both opportunities are there you choose the shot that’s exactly what senica has been doing so far this year I’ve been so impressed with him this season um just like I was in the second half of the season last year um the main change over the over the offseason you know since the second half of his draft year has mainly been that my goodness this kid loves to shoot and he does it really really well his shots mechanically a bit Weir weird he uses a lot more um kind of a forward motion and a lot more kind of torque on a shot than rather than using kind of down Force and and mechanical compactness to release a shot um but regardless he can shoot the living daylight out of the puck and he does it really well so mechanics don’t really matter all that much when you’re that uh heart of a shooter uh moving on to Ethan Precision who’s been fairly good as well this season in the OHL he’s got 32 points um honestly not many notes on Ethan Precision I haven’t watched him a ton this year um but the production stands out for sure and he’s been um a very interesting Prospect heading into last year um I I I like the pick here for Anaheim um but we have to talk about Sean soberg uh the 20th overall pick in the uh 2024 NHL draft of the Anaheim Ducks uh a great pickup by far the most violent Prospect in the 2024 NH shell draft he had some competition like Carter yakimchuk up there but Shan soberg is just an absolute monster physically uh loves to throw the body so comfortable in physical scenarios he’s able to fend off forwards and four Checkers incredibly comfortably with his body 6’2 205 pound left shot defenseman great skater and so far this year he’s been playing fulltime in the shl uh Swedish o League which in my opinion is a top three pro league in the world he’s got five points in 20 games with fad as a loan uh to their system there he was signed by the anahem Ducks um heading out of his draft year which let them control a bit more where he goes so they loaned him out with to fistad and so far this year um decent minutes uh about 15 to 10 to 15 minutes so far this year has been playing kind of third uh third line minutes in an shl role which is to be expected in a draft plus one season um but yeah he’s a phenomenal physical player loves to throw the body um and is very very very effective defensively and has the mobility as well for his size to be able to um reach certain defensive plays that other players his size can’t so very interesting Prospect I think he’s a Bonafide NHL or top four defenseman he’s got that in his toolkit uh he’s going to be a phenomenal watch four years to come for the Anheim Ducks uh lastly I do want to talk about a couple more prospects that are less talked about in in in Prospect circles but I mean Teran Smith was a prospect I hitched my wagon on early uh I was a big big fan of his game uh was pushing for him back when when I was at Dober prospects last year I was pushing for him as high as as the early second round like I had him in my 35 to 40ish range um in the 2024 NHL draft class even heading into the last days of the draft and so far this year he has been absolutely phenomenal with the ever silver tips he’s been one of the best defensemen in the entire WHL so phenomenal uh for them in that system still a great offensive mind uh very very creative I think those are the main things that stand out when you watch Karen Smith he very daring and willing to try different things and explore and experiment and the experimentation he showed this year is really paying off this year um the the way he experimented with his game last year was through deakes dangles um you know low percentage uh passes but you know that that could benefit uh right you know he’s not throwing pucks cross ice you know willy-nilly he was really kind of trying to layer his passes through Lanes uh slip him under sticks there are some really interesting details on that side and for me so far ter Smith I mean he’s he’s been proving me right um but it’s obviously very early to tell I don’t want to take a Victory lap right away with with Darren Smith um but the defensive game has come some ways he gone a bit more physical a bit more aggressive defensively which has been kind of very very fun to watch uh because those were kind of the main setbacks in this draft year also think the skating’s improved slightly uh with Jen Smith he’s gone a bit more mobile a bit more able to kind of Accelerate from a stand still go from backwards Mobility to lateral Mobility uh fairly comfortably so very interesting Prospect to keep an eye on also want to talk about Carrie tance uh who’s a great Prospect out of the OHL um ducks have something decent here I really like the aggressiveness with which K terance plays um very kind of in-your-face four Checker tries hard um pushes the pace really well on the four check uh and so far this year he slowed down a tiny bit in terms of production but he’s still got 10 points in his last 10 games he’s up to 26 points in 29 games with the Erie otos he’s a captain of the team as well um and because of that aggression that ability to to ramp up the passion with his team he he drives hard uh into the paint uh digs pucks out off the wall on the four check and just gets him to the middle um very very smart player as well in transition there’s a lot to work with here with with K tance he’s got 14 goals on the season as well so a decent goal scor he’s kind of improving that side of his game I’m a fan I like his game couple more guys to highlight in this uh pool here first and foremost uh Maxim M who’s been very interesting in the uh qmj CH he plays shikimi Sager um and he’s he’s a bit of an island in terms of that roster they really rely on him in terms of being able to produce being able to uh dig them out of trouble Shiki sag haven’t been the best team so far this year uh and M has been mainly relied on to kind of rally the troops get some points up on the board get them back in games and try to kind of rally comebacks uh very very often in the games that they play uh I still like the goal scoring ability I like the creativity the offens of mind is definitely there he’s able to time his routes to the net uh tip pucks get on rebounds all that good stuff um the mobility is tiny bit limiting but he’s still able to create off the rush in certain scenarios but right now in this current in this the current making of his team’s roster it’s really hard to give him any um kind of development objectives or see where exactly he’s been progressing so far um there hasn’t been much room for growth when you’re when you have to dominate so frequently on your team and be the guy that everyone relies on to do something because the rest of this team just hasn’t been really producing that much still he’s got 14 points on the season me missed some time with an injury um he’ll be back in force fairly soon and once he gets back up to uh the pace that he’s able to play at and the energy he’s able to bring once he’s comfortable on his feet again he’ll be fine he’ll he’ll be fine and will be able to produce um lastly the last Prospect I want to talk about is Lucas Pon um who was a prospect that both Sebastian and I were big fans of in his draft uh played decently over in Sweden and was drafted by theim Ducks uh late-ish um but so far this season he’s got one point in the shl uh eight points in the Swedish j20 and two points in the hockey alenin so he been playing a bit all over in terms of rosters um and which levels he’s been playing at but he’s a very interesting Prospect I mean you’re talking about a 5 foot 11 speedy speedy def forward um plays center plays Wing but mainly I’ve seen him at Center so far this year uh the way that he kind of creates space for him self in transition the way he’s able to kind of open up these gaps between him and carriers him and defensemen and kind of exploit them uh is very very interesting so I like the way that he that he approaches the game um on both sides of the ice very defensively responsible which is why he’s played 19 games in the shl so far this year um but he’s playing mainly kind of fourth line third fourth line minutes uh in the shl uh meanwhile the AL finin played 20 minutes recently and the j20 is one of the top fours on his team so you know in terms of what he’s able to bring to the game very very versatile but mainly it’s speed defensive ability and some playmaking creativity as well um I’d keep an eye out on Lucas Patterson he’s a great uh great Prospect and will likely be a high-end bottom six piece in the NHL I wouldn’t be surprised to see him as uh Anheim third line Center once they get up to contention level and uh these prospects keep developing I’m talking three four five six years from now uh when the Ducks are back up to speed and all guys have developed I think Lucas Patterson fits so well with the with what need in the bottom six it’s going to be a great option for them in that position but uh that’s all
