welcome back to son of Chelsea team selector time for the gameer home to Fulham unboxing day a classic 3 p.m. Boxing Day game at the bridge it feels like we haven’t had one of these for quite a few years now cuz a few of them have been moved back to the 27th so I’m excited to go down to the bridge for a 3 P.M Boxing Day game this almost feel was mid 2000s for them at home let’s hope it results in kind of a a similar ending for Chelsea a positive one especially off the back of Everton which listen I had my frustrations about the game but there’s no point to go overboard about it because it wasn’t a loss Chelsea still in a very strong place a healthy place in the Premier League table it’s just about you know getting back on the horse basically and trying to get maximum points for the next period of games that can keep Chelsea within touching distance of Liverpool and of course um a way away from the chasing pack which is I think the most important thing for Champions League qualification now uh disclaimer I’m recording this on the 23rd simply because the 24th in my family you know it’s my dad’s birthday you know we’re very much going into the the festive period so um I won’t be making a show on Christmas Eve so I wait to see what Enzo moresa has to say pregame if they’re doing a press conference and if there’s any kind of major updates regarding injury so really I’m recording this off the basis of of the players and kind of injury situations we know right now whether there’s any late exclusions or returns I guess I just kind of have to live with that but it’s that time of the year so I hope you guys can understand on that front let’s take a look at filam who I I think it maybe goes under the radar a bit how wonderful job Marco Silva has done with this filam team and how filam are now viewed within the Premier League cuz it wasn’t actually that long ago go they were deemed one of those yo-yo clubs who you know would do really well in the championship get promoted look very exciting um and get up to the Premier League whether it was from Scott Parker or I I remember quite a few years ago now with 20189 but then they absolutely fail to adapt to Premier League life and they’d be quickly sent back down to the championship since Marco Silva’s come in it really has been a change of of tune and kind of um nature at film where they are now a stable and secure Premier League team once again and I think the the reason behind it is because Silva is a decent premier league coach not an outstanding premier league coach but you know someone who I think at a certain level of Club in the Premier League can do a pretty decent job um and maybe get the most out of players and really create a a pretty Resolute and at times awkward FM team who will gain points when you don’t expect them to but do enough to comfortably stay in the Premier League they’re knif currently they’ve had a lot of draws recently they’ve drawn four of their last five Premier League games but of course one of those draws was a really impressive point at anfield which you know got Chelsea briefly quite close to to Liverpool and in that game in particular you saw the ability of Fulham against the High Caliber team away from home and kind of the damage that they could do if they are at their best and I think you know there were obviously some players that really are kind of outstanding this season for fham so they’re not an exceptional team but they do have some quality within it obviously and I think they have a very shrewd head coach who knows how to get the the max out of his players I think the the key players I’m looking at is obviously top goal scorer Alex aobi um he’s been around for a long period of time now I still remember when he was kind of the young player at Arsenal and obviously he moved to Everton he was redeveloped in kind of bombing Bo boxto boox Central Midfield under Frank Lampard for a bit then he moved to fham he kind of is playing this left-sided attacking Ro and it’s really working well for him he settled at filam and he’s he’s scoring goals obviously not a ridiculous number of goals but you know he’s a much more productive player than he once was earlier in his career and um I think has good technique about him at times can have very good decision- making about him too you look at Harry Wilson I think another good decent wide player as well for them and I think that the main player for them and it kind of goes to one of their top stats in terms of Premier League teams this season so far is accurate crosses they’re top for accurate crosses per match and I think a lot of that has has to do with the bombing left back that is Anthony Robinson the US International a player who I believe has been linked to Chelsea before it’s unsurprising because I think he’s a very good fullback and if you watch the game against Liverpool he was instrumental to the way they really hurt Liverpool especially in transition the way he bombs down that flank he’s able to to very quickly and seamlessly connect with his fellow attackers and get some really dangerous crosses into the six-yard box so down that right side of ch’s defense is going to be maybe a big concern in this game for Enzo moresa of trying to shut down Robinson cuz he kind of acts as an extra attacking player um that you really need to be looking out for because he’s got productivity he’s got a good cross on him and it’s where a lot of Vil’s creativity comes from because they are a functional team that’s not meant as an insult but in terms of where that spark that Ingenuity can come from especially in transition I think Robinson very much provides that so looking at this Chelsea team it’s it’s a time of year when you have to rotate and moresa has been forced in in recent weeks and games especially to rotate because of the defensive injuries no fana no bad aill ree James is not back yet in terms of the center backs he has become very limited very quickly so he’s going to have to use the the full strength of his Squad in the final two games of 2024 obviously this game and then away at IP switch before the beginning of 2025 obviously I think this is the more dangerous one for Chelsea or or the one against obviously a high caliber of opponent I don’t actually suspect this starting 11 will be radically different to the one that started at goodison Park because of those issues in central defense I think there will obviously be a few rures but Josh acinom ronar Vega they’re the sort of players I’m looking at over this period who who may get more minutes especially Ain pong who I’d like to see get at least a start or or or some significant time off the bench now he’s a regular Squad player it’d be nice to see however I I think that when you look at that defensive structure against Everton it wasn’t wful it was a decent clean sheet that defense will be happy with what they did on that day and because you’re moving into an environment when you need to make the full use of your squad there are some players who are going to get more minutes than they have so far this year and mes is going to lean on them obviously there’s going to be more of a discourse in terms of the attack and who comes in who goes out who maybe hasn’t been performing as well so the the competition in that area has always been Fierce this season which I think is a good thing Robert Sanchez rightly I think starts in goal he had uh he’s had two brilliant performances I have to say you know you look at the brenford game he made some key saves in that second half to keep Chelsea ahead and also some major saves to get Chelsea a point against Everton and I always say this no matter what my criticism of Sanchez when a player plays well you’ve got to give them credit and he’s responded well to some maybe competition that started to come from Jorgenson so I think Sanchez is is doing enough to keep his place at the moment and he’s making some some key stops and I think moresa will trust him again Maloo I think will move back to right back in this game um I I just think yeah Josh Ain pal it’d be really exciting to see him start this game I just think that Gusto as the experienced player will go into his natural position here and um hopefully play a little bit more seamlessly cuz on that left he just is a little bit more Awkward it’s it wasn’t terrible but it definitely Haled Chelsea’s ability cuz it’s like the classic Cesar bla thing whenever that ball goes out wide you want the left you want a left back who’s going to be able to provide something in the final third and the player always has to cut back onto his more natural foot and and obviously when he’s on his right side that isn’t the case and he can play across he can get involved a lot more seamlessly which hopefully he can in this game that means that I think tosin ad Rio will start against his former Club kind of ironic that it’s it’s turned out this way because of injuries but I think toen had a really good performance against Everton um I think that he is the best of the rest at the moment or at least who who is fit so I think toen maybe this is the chance for him to start to solidify his place in the backf alongside Levi Cowell he’s got good aor prowers about him I think he’s probably got a better pass on him and good decision making compared to ax with isassi so I think tosen will start Levi obviously left Center back and the returning marcoa Marco carea one of Chelsea’s most essential players it’s great to have him back after suspension please don’t get suspended again because I think we saw against Everton from a creative point of view how Chelsea tick as a team how big of a player and and instrumental he is to the way Chelsea function hopefully we’ll see that return in this game because um I think Chelsea really missed in terms of the buildup in terms of those small things that you know I think really make a difference um Central Midfield so Lavia there’s been kind of talk about will Lavia return for this game I don’t think he’d start this game I still think kaiso and Fernandez are the First Choice Midfield Duro at the moment moment lavier I think is a great option to have if he is fit because then maybe Enzo can do what he did against Villa that work really well but Villa was kind of the only example of it working really well to be fair this kind of freeb system where you aren’t playing a natural right back you are playing Kar but he’s playing as a left Center back he could do that arguably in this game if Lavia is available and you have the Midfield Trio of Lavia kaiso and Fernandez I always think when you’re playing that system you have to look at the opponent and say do they possess real dangerous wide threats who are going to try and exploit that space that maybe is being left or or kind of is is more open down that channel than is usually the case if you’re playing a conventional right back there so that’ll be the question for this game however I do think kaiso who’s been immaculate this season I think has been Chelsea’s best player this season most consistent performer this season with Enzo Fernandez who I think tried his best to make things make things happen the weekend at goodison Park I don’t just because he didn’t score a goal or assist that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a decent performance I actually think it was a was a decent performance so I think he’ll start again and hopefully he can add to his goal tally then we get into the rightwing position which is very competitive because it kind of feels like from week to week this is an area that and the left wing position as well that you know it’s really on those players to keep up their consistency I think nony manow should come back into the team here um maybe a little bit harsh on pedreta but we’ll get to the left side uh I I just you know I think Noni really needs to keep pushing and I think a lot of this is maybe a psychological thing for menzo moresa to try and force non to be that consistent player because I think he’s got such great talent about him and even though there were frustrating moments against brenford he puts in the ball that sets up the first goal a crucial goal in that game and uh I think non will will come back in and hopefully can provide a bit more I think sometimes n just needs to judge when to be selfish and when not to be selfish I still think he has too many moments when he takes a shot when he probably shouldn’t but there’s natural Talent there it needs to be capitalized on so I I think he’ll come in and and and keep up that battle for for these attacking spots obviously K Palmer yeah I know some people having a go in for the Everton game but I mean again do people want te over Vera back do you want to go back to the era of players in this attack who offer you absolutely nothing for the majority of the season and can barely hit 10 goals Palmer does have the odd frustrating day I always say then you you look around the team for who else is going to step up whether it’s Jackson who should have been taking his chances on Sunday whether it’s the wi players who should be stepping up and taking more of a responsibility more of a responsibility I I don’t think that um just because Palmer has a slightly quiet day everyone has to go to panic stations no um he will start again and very quickly I’m sure will start finding the back in the net again because he’s he’s such a good player I’ve given a lot of credit to jayen Sancho and it’s weird some of the ratings for the the Everton game actually weren’t that bad for him however I think I will move Netto over to the left here um I still think Sancho he just it feels like he has a really good performance or he has a really um instrumental moment for Chelsea and then it seems like he puts the foot off the gas the next game and I know this was a frequent acus accusation leveled at him whilst it whilst he was at man united now I think there’s some stats to read already better than what he did at Man United and clearly is a a really talented player within there and I think he’s obviously settled very quickly at Chelsea again I just think it’s really good and healthy that there is aggressive competition for places in this area because I think it’s probably uh led to the productivity and goals we’ve seen this this season from the attack um and I just think Netto in that Everton game looked although you can look at Stats and Stu I I think that overall he was the one who was trying to add that extra acceleration to Chelsea’s attack and that’s what I like about Pedro Netto I think he’s someone who who always looks like he wants to make something happen and always looks like he’s trying to burst down the wing he’s trying to open up that space whether a commited Defender win a foul whatever it is I like Netto I think he also does have maybe that moment of magic and and he’s more I think hungry for goals than Sano that is something that Sano needs to add to his game a lot more he needs to shoot a lot more as a wide player now again Jackson got a lot of criticism the other day I still think Jackson is going to be starting as Chelsea Center forward cuz I think he’s Chelsea’s best center forward he scored nine goals this season he scored against brenford last time at the bridge he should have scored with one of his chances from Everton but does that mean you drop the player instantly no if Jackson goes like five games without doing anything not contributing anything then we have that conversation the discourse around Jackson versus what the actual reality of Nicholas Jackson is as a footballer for Chelsea in context because of his age we can have wider disc about whether Chelsea need to add a rotational option are just insane to me they they really are um you know when I listen to people speak about Jackson it’s like he hasn’t scored a goal this season um and it just doesn’t tally up with what he’s actually done on the pitch for Chelsea so I think he’ll start again here but you know Inu will be pushing for minutes Mark gu obviously has scored a couple of goals in the conference League he’ll be full of confidence so if Jackson isn’t performing I’m not here saying you shouldn’t rotate you shouldn’t have competition for place but I just think to drop Jackson or to feel like he’s he’s not there for Chelsea’s First Choice place I just I don’t agree I just don’t I just don’t think the stats back that up unfortunately so
