questions for Garrett so Garrett I’ve sort of leading everybody off with the turmoil of the last week or so how have you handled it how’s the team handled it yeah I mean obviously the the decision is kind of above my my pay grade you know my job is just just to play quarterback here um but you know I mean obviously you know it it sucks losing losing a coach that’s recruited you for you know for three years in high school and then you know played for him for Five Seasons here um but you know a lot of the team kind of coming together and you know just kind of kind of worrying about this game and then you know whatever happens next happens you kind of feels maybe a little bit your job as kind of a quarterback as a senior to kind of help Shield the rest of the team from kind of that outside stuff and be like hey and kind of keep guys focused on football and focused on task yeah a little bit because you know no matter what what happens outside of here you know the only thing that you can control is you know your effort the work you know how you practice um that’s really the only thing that you can control while while you’re here so you know just just try really talking to to everybody about just focus on the the task at hand and then you know worrying about Memphis think you can share about any conversations you’ve had with Coach Brown since the decision uh not really publicly speaking of Memphis I mean from a portex point of view what does what problems do those guys present to to the offense yeah yeah so they’re they’re very similar structurely to Iowa State um they run the 335 and you know three safety stuff so kind of structurally they’re pretty similar to to a lot of what Iowa state did um so you know it’s it’s kind of nice to have those reps logged against you know some three safety teams um to where it’s not it’s not our first time playing against playing against um you know three saf teams but you know those type of teams those type of defenses they they do pose problems with you know how you ID plays and you know it just it just junks junks some things up for for us so we just have to be you know really really on point with you know our IDs and our communication makes Chad able to hold this thing together you the right God for this resp this too big stretch yeah I think if you ask anybody you know to a man you know I think that they would all all say that you know he truly cares about everyone in the building um you know you can’t really hide his his energy and his love for the game and the people in this building um so I thinky guys have seen that over the last five years W with him um so I think it it’s easy to Rally behind a coach like that think that um more guys would not decide to play in the bowl game um just because of all the changes and everything else with the coaching situation or uh you happy you talk to people off the ledge maybe not really I mean I don’t think we um have anybody that’s that’s not here that’s that’s not going to play um which which is good and that speaks to the guys in the locker room and character that they have is that you know the season obviously didn’t go the way that we’d hoped but you know they’re going to finish it out and you know play play one more time um and then you know figure out the the rest after the performance at Texas Tech have any bearing on some of the guys say I don’t want to go out like this let’s let’s try to put a better product out there was talked about it all um I mean I think in the back of some gu’s mind is it’s obviously there um because obviously Texas Tech just just wasn’t good enough um and the performance that we all put out there me included you know just wasn’t good enough um and you know for me personally I don’t want that to be the last last experience that I have playing how much juice has that added to everybody as you watch them practice as you practice yourself you know to to get ready for this next game I think a little bit um you know I mean our last Monday and Tuesday we’ve had really physical and you know intense practices um and I think that that shows that you know guys guys just want to go out there and compete one more time um and you know hopefully put a better product out than then we did in Leck what do you think went wrong in Leck for your estimation we talked with some of the coaches about that yeah I I think that you know they I could speak just for uh uh offense um but you know they had a really good Third Down plan for us um you know they they had some I mean even even if you look at their year-long stats you know they were in the top you know 40 in the country in in third down defense um so that that was a strength of theirs and you know we didn’t do a good enough good enough job of you know combating that someone would say make a statue of you for remember how how how would you like it to be would you like be running the ball roll the ball going the block I mean I think that’s up to that’s up to the uh the statue makers um I don’t I don’t really I don’t really have an input in that yeah smiling on it probably um but that’s not again that’s that’s about my pay grade right you have a player or a moment though maybe kind of what he was alluding to that you would want Mountain your fans to remember you’re going to remember about your um I mean I don’t really know I mean I think that’s up for for the fans to to think about and you know I mean i’ I’ve had a lot lot of good plays here um a lot of bad plays but uh yeah that’s up to the fans you go back to his point though you go back you think about your career I mean the the Oklahoma game a couple years ago when you brought him back and rallied him I mean there have been some moments that you go through you think about is there any that stick out I mean I I mean I don’t know um I mean probably the the one that sticks out the most just because we’re kind of in that season is the first play of the bowl game last year I think that was pretty cool because you know uh coach ta he kind of he told me the whole week that you know it was going to be a huge play um just just with our prep and stuff seeing how they adjusted to motion um so kind of that one because we kind of knew the whole week you know really the couple weeks leading up to the game that you know the first play of the game was going to be a huge one I mean just as you know a guy who played his ass off for for his teammates is his university um you know the state um I think that’s if people just say that about me you know I’ll be happy what are your you talked about the NFL before and things like that what what are your career goals and if the NFL doesn’t happen would you want to play in a spring pro league or continue to play football yeah I mean obviously I’m going keep playing football as long as I can um but right right now I’m focused on Memphis it you that this is the last college game it sunk in at all yeah a little bit um you know moving moving some stuff out of my house um so you know I’m I’m slowly moving out of my locker you know five years you have time to accumulate a lot of cleats and and stuff of that nature um so it’s starting to hit me a little bit um but you know I’m really just kind of focused on you know doing my job in against Memphis and then you know kind of handling all that stuff later I think you’ve talked before about how important has been for you to be a guy that empty the tank guy like we’re going to give 100% every play how how important has it been for you to be to be that guy within yourself and be looked at that guy as like man it may go one way or another that he is going to you know unload everything he’s got on every play yeah I think that’s you know kind of really the only way that you know you can really live life is you know I don’t want to be 80 years old and you know have regrets on you know any part of my life and you know this these Last 5 Years you know I don’t really have any regrets obviously would would like to have played better in some moments and win some more games and and do all that which which that that’s just natural but you know I prepared my ass off every week you know mentally you know football-wise and then you know physically you know I did everything I could been here five years what’s it what what do you tell somebody now what’s it like to be a mountaineer uh I mean I think it I think it’s deeper than you know just football I think it’s you know an entire like attitude and you know outlook on on life really um you know this the States built on Blue Collar hardworking people um that you know really aren’t going to take no for an answer and they’re going to keep fighting for you know themselves their family um and so I think that some something like that you know no matter what happens with my life you know I always have that that DNA and that you know that kind of factor with me that you know no matter what happens I’m keep fighting so part of that will be with you the rest of your life West Virginia no doubt okay thank very yep thank you guys
